Guest Reviews
- Paul (8/5): - The hotel staff are excellent and though it is dated it’s a great base to see everything in Rome I found the hotel to be good value and was happy with my stay
- ignacio (6/5): - Attention
- Rohit (2/5): - The staff was pleasant, friendly and accommodating to your needs.
The hotel and room were NOT like the pictures seen online. The rooms were small, and cold at night, the heater did not work properly, the walls had cracks and stains, and the bathroom had mould.
We had to change our trip to be comfortable during our visit.
I don't recommend this location.
- Joseph (2/5): - The property was NOT what we thought it would be. The room smelt bad. You could barely fit one person in the bathroom. Inconvenient placing for the outlets around the room, and you could not even use the outlet in the bathroom. The walls had some stains and cracks. And there were mosquitoes in the room as well. Overall, spend a little more money to stay somewhere better than this.
- Josephine (4/5): - Very old building, with on elevators from the early 19 century. No phone on the room the smallest bathroom I ever saw in my life. They held you 3 keys to enter the building.
Location I liked at lot walk distance to Roma center.
- María Fernanda (10/5): - If you are looking for a European style Hotel this is definitely the place. The rooms are certainly smaller than one might perceive from the pictures. But I mean you are mainly going to be exploring the city, which makes this hotel pure perfection. It’s located close to everything. Which makes it easier if you need to head back to the hotel for whatever you might need, plus there’s great food nearby. The only thing I did struggle with, was the pillows, they are quite thin, for most of my stay I was exhausted so I fell asleep easily, but if it wouldn’t have been for that I would not have been able to sleep. So if you are the type of person that needs a thicker pillow I would try and get one from reception. Also the receptionist was super helpful, from recommending places to how to get there and even giving us an outlet adapter! Staying here definitely adds to the Rome experience
- May (10/5): - The hotel is old but the rooms are great, very clean and the staff was wonderful and very friendly. The location of the hotel is amazing, and close to everything. I highly recommend this hotel. We had a wonderful stay!
- Matthew (10/5): - The hotel is everything you need for a city break. Its close to excellent transport links for the airport and the rest of the city. It is well within walking distance of all the main sites and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants and bars. The room was clean, tidy and served our needs with more than enough room for 3 adults and a large bathroom. The staff at the hotel are great, we were taken to our room whe we arrived and was given details aboit how to get around and some fantastic recommendations on what to see and do. Really great hotel, would definitely recommend.
- Balraj (4/5): - Property was decent but the bathroom smelled of sewage 24/7 and garbage bins were kept at the entrance inside of the building the smell was horrinle coming and going.
- Allison (10/5): Great spot to stay in Roma Centrale - The staff at Hotel Caravaggio were very friendly and helpful. For a city center hotel, the room was exceptionally quiet, which was much appreciated. Close walking distance to many major sites and felt safe in the neighborhood. Will definitely return.
- Camila (8/5): Nice - The loby is detached from the hotel which is a floor in the building
Ao not realy an experience of hotel
More of a small apartment.
Good location
Clean
Old towels
- Paula (10/5): Wonderful Stay - The hotel was very clean and in a perfect location. It was 15 minute walk to all the places we wanted to see, Trevi Fountain, Colleseum, train station & Metro. Near to some delicious restaurants and great shopping,
- Keith (10/5): - Excellent place with plenty of character. Excellent location. Excellent staff, both Mido and Richard. Excellent price. Would definitely stay here again!
- Milagros (10/5): - Friendly, helpful and convenient. I love the fact that the location was perfect and close to restaurants, shops, cafes, etc. I would highly recommend it to my friends and family.
- Paul (6/5): - In general this a fine hotel but I was strongly disappointed about the size of my single room. For sure this was the most expensive closet I have ever slept in :-)
- Mary (4/5): Uncomfortable - The staff was very pleasant and helpful but the hotel wasn't comfortable at all. The mattress was like a rock, pillows flat, toilet needed at least 3 tries to flush and to enter from the street you unlock these impressive old 10 foot doors to be greeted by the smelly trash cans from the building. The room was clean and locate was good. We would not stay there again.
- Michael (8/5): - Wished there was Sinne sort of breakfast, but other than this, the entire stay was great
- Jennifer (8/5): - The property was small, but clean and in a convenient location that allowed us to walk to all of the major sights in the city. Our one complaint with the room was that the bathroom light and fan were automatically controlled (they didn't have a switch). When you opened the bathroom door, the light and fan came on and stayed on for 5 minutes after you left the bathroom and closed the door. This made it so that is was impossible to quietly use the restroom during the night. You couldn't sneak in while your partner was sleeping and go to the bathroom because the minute you opened the door, the light and very loud fan came on and stayed on for five minutes. It sounds dumb, but it was so annoying that it would probably prevent us from staying there in the future. The concierge was friendly and kind.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible - My husband and I spent the first night of our trip here and after leaving the next morning we noticed small itchy bumps on our skin. This caused much unwarranted stress for the rest of our time in Italy. We had to find a pharmacy to help alleviate the redness and itchiness we were experiencing.
I called this to their attention and the management I corresponded with was argumentative and unprofessional, insisting that the information I provided is a supposition and that they can't do much for a written report. They also shared that they had a similar ailment and was told by a dermatologist that it was so relative that it could simply be a contact with animals, air dusts especially in autumn, public transport, some types of herbs/tea etc etc etc.
Staying here was a mistake I will not be making again.
- maureen (6/5): Cut back - Very poor breakfast choice , As someone who does a good bit of traveling , it was probably the poorest we had, water for showering and washand basin was not hot enough, and got no towel change for the duration of our stay (4days) requested fresh ones after 2 days by placing used ones on the bathroom floor, only to find the used ones hanging back on the towel rail, on day 3 we purchased two towels, which we took home with us. Was not happy about the towels as we we showering twice a day.
- Verified traveler (4/5): 2 stars not 3 - Good location, nice staff but the place is very run down and no way does it look like the photo. Room was very small and dingy. Also it is an odd design and you have to leave the lobby and go through almost an alley to get to the hotel and you pass the garbage set up- not very inviting.
- Pasquale (8/5): Staying in Rome - Great location, central to everything especially public transport. Roma Termini is about 15 minutes walk away. Staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent Hotel - A decent hotel, expected something a little nicer for 3 stars. Room was clean but the walls were filthy. Air conditioning worked well. The beds weren’t very comfortable. The biggest issue was that our room (#16) was right next to where they served breakfast, so we were woken up at 7am and it was very loud. Luckily we were able to switch rooms for the remainder of our stay. The staff was very nice and helpful. The location is pretty central.
- Penelope (8/5): - Great location, welcoming staff. Good breakfast. Plenty of hot water with good shower. A/C worked! As women, we felt safe in this hotel and comfortable walking in the area.
- Mary (8/5): Lovely overall experience! - Hotel staff was extremely friendly and offered up recommendations. We had a very comfortable stay with our one year old daughter. It was about a 12 minute walk to the train station as well as other sites. Very easy to navigate around the city. The air conditioning and WiFi worked well. It was a nice place to make our home base while in Rome.
- richard (8/5): Good place to stay - A nice hotel if you are only staying for a short duration. Location is good, clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We love the location the staff is outstanding especially Killy and Luzville. If you don’t mind small rooms the place is perfectl!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location and good air conditioning Good location and good air conditioning
- Paul (10/5): Staying in Rome - Excellent hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff and very central for visiting Rome
- Elena (6/5): Not the most spacious room - Despite been a nice location and clean hotel, I booked and individual room that was extremely tiny. Also cold rooms and bathroom which was uncomfy. The bathroom was exceptionaly small, to the point I couldnt even turn myself around in the shower cause there was no space. I am a small and thin person. Bed was a bit hard as well. But staff was super friendly and helpful, location amazing and maybe a double room would have been nicer,
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel location was very nice! The staff was very friendly and helpful! They were able to provide us with reccomendations for great restaurants!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Central location. Clean. Very small rooms. Lot of noise from 6 am, not able to sleep.
- Kelly (10/5): Great Location and Staff - Really nice hotel. Clean room, breakfast included, one of the larger bathrooms in our entire Italy trip. Great staff - always offering suggestions and answering questions. Available 24 hours. Very secure.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room was very basic and the room shown on your site is not what we were given. There is only one room that looks like the advertised one. The beds were so hard I felt like i was sleeping on a concrete floor. There weren't even tissues or a jug to boil water for coffee (I had to go and buy one). The breakfast consisted of stale bread and out of date honey. There was also a sign that said that if you left anything on your plate you would be charged 5-10 Euro. This accommodation really put a damper on our holiday.
- Stacey (10/5): Simple, small & gets the job done - My fiancé and I needed a place to crash for a night before our flight out of FCO, and Hotel Caravaggio was the perfect place for that. This hotel is no-frills, with a simple, small room, but it was clean, quiet, and had very kind and knowledgable staff.
They helped us arrange a car to the airport the next morning - VERY EARLY - and when we got in, recommended an osteria nearby for the best meal we had in Italy. The front desk staff is very attentive.
Please note that the hotel rooms are next door to the lobby, and that you need to be buzzed in by the front desk staff when you leave and wish to reenter.
- Andrew (8/5): Great hotel in a great location - This hotel is just a short walk from the Termini, really close to the Trevi fountain and the Coliseum with several Metro stops nearby so getting around Rome is really easy. The hotel staff are superb and really helpful and the free WiFi was superb. Breakfast is simple with a choice of cereals, ham and cheese with rolls, pastries, yoghurt, fruit, juices and coffee on tap. More than enough to set you up for the day. Our room overlooked the front of the hotel and as long as you close the shutters at night you wont hear much noise from the street. It was a decent size and very comfortable baring in mind all we did was sleep here. There is too much to see and do to spend long in the hotel room. It was a little noisy in the morning as there are flats above but again this wasn't an issue as we were getting ready to head out anyway. This is our 2nd stay at the Caravaggio and we will definitely be back. The team there are so welcoming and more than happy to help with whatever queries you have. There are lots of bars and restaurants close by as well should your legs have enough of walking, you don't have to go far to get a good meal and refreshments.
- Debra (10/5): Couldn't have asked for more... - My entire stay was excellent. From personally showing me how the elevator works, to setting up airport shuttles, helping me with the best way to see the sights, good places to eat and rembering my name, was perfect. The cleanliness of the room/bath was outstanding. The complimentary breakfast was fine. No complaints and would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice, clean and very friendly staff hotel, walking distance to major sites, Termini train station and delicious hidden gem restaurants. Very happy with our stay!
- Helen (6/5): Only ok - Hotel location ok for access to the main bus/metro/train station, walking distance to most attractions. Hotel quirky with the reception next door to the rooms, so access through a different door at street level. Room was kept very clean. Bathroom was tiny and the bathroom door could only open partly before it hit the bed, the bed was very hard, the toilet seat was loose and the shower screen was broken. Overall ok for a night but after 4 nights we were glad to be leaving.
- Archit (10/5): - Everything was as expected, clean snd comfortable. People at reception were very friendly, we stayed teo days and met different people at reception - all very helpful and friendly.
We arrived very early on the day of check in and they helped prepare the room early to let us freshen before the long day.
Location of the hotel is perfect for toursits, very central to all tourist points... you can literally walk everywhere except Vatican city. Neighbourhood is safe and full of nice restaurants within 5-10 minutes walk.
Room size is a little smaller, but that is to be expected for a hotel that is located in the heart of Rome.
We did not take breakfast option at this hotel since we wanted to try local places during our stay, and we were happy with the nice coffee bars down the street.
Pricing was well in range with other hotels in area, and everything was perfect. The hotel made our vacation in Rome a pleasant experience.
Highly recommended!
- Ian (10/5): Good location, reasonably comfortable. - Decent room, comfortable size. Location close to attractions and train station. Would have been helpful to know about the cash only city tax prior to check in, as this was new to us. Staff were helpful though and allowed us to pay this later.
- jan (8/5): Good location, clean hotel. - We had a very comfortable stay here in one of the hottest times I’ve remembered in Italy. The air con worked well! Breakfast was a little lacking and tired but the staff were helpful.
- S (8/5): Great location! - Good walking distance to all the main attractions. Had a small fridge and a/c. Room was adequate size considering most hotels in the city have small rooms. In a quiet location. Only thing was being woken up at 7am every morning by noise as walls extremely thin. If you wake up early and don't plan on sleeping in then this won't be a problem. Staff were very friendly and gave tips on places to visit. Didn't have breakfast as so many cafes/restaurants around the area.
- ian (8/5): great hotel for Rome with a reasonable budget - Very friendly and helpful staff. Amazing lift !!. Breakfast okay - nothing special but staff were good and coffee great
- Richard (8/5): Great location for al sights - Good stay but lift broke.
Helpful staff
- Anita (10/5): - The stay was amazing. All the landmarks in the walking distance. Shops and restaurants all around. At the same time the street is quiet and no street noises disturb you during night. Excellent staff. Lucky hours with wine - a pleasant touch.
- Hrisi (6/5): Great location, needs some refurbishment work - Hotel is a walking distance from most tourist attractions and many shops. Very close to the central station too. Staff are extremely helpful and polite. Rooms need some refurbishment work , could do with some fresh paint. However , they do give you a feel of a more authentic experience. Loving the old- fashioned lift.
Breakfast is quite poor but threre is a great bakery just down the road for some delicious food and great coffee. Would definitely recommend.
- Leslie (8/5): - As an American, I honestly was expecting something more similar to a Holiday Inn or something with big comfy beds and fluffy pillows. Although this hotel didn't have those things, it was still a nice place to stay. The room was small, but when in Rome you won't spend much time there anyways. The shower fit me, but my 6'3 fiancé struggled with it. The bed was a nice queen size. There was AC, it just took a little bit to get comfortable, but otherwise kept the room very cool. Breakfast was pretty good, any kind of pastry you can imagine and its all you can eat, and worth the extra money in my opinion. It is an AWESOME location, on a back street so you don't hear a lot of the cars honking or people passing and it's in a nicer area. Walking distance to a ton of shops and restaurants, and Termini station. My fiancé and I actually opted to walk to a lot of our sight-seeing places such as the Trevi fountain and a lot of the piazzas. The staff was extremely nice and helpful, and we were able to buy our sight-seeing tickets from them at a good price. Overall a pleasant place to stay at.
- travelninja (4/5): good location, but not much more - The hotel is clean and the staff is really nice. But it is not really what I would call a 3 star hotel in the US... more of a 2 star. The pricing is comparable to US chains like Holiday Inn/Hampton Inn, but the overall quality and appearance is closer to a Red Roof Inn. The location is good; walkable to Termini Station and accessible to public transportation. Unfortunately that is about all that I can praise. Our room was ok but not for the price we paid. The shower was tiny and had terrible water pressure (on the first floor!), with wavering temperature of the water. The sink was a pedestal type with a small shelf--not much room to put things to get ready. The exhaust fan was completely useless, so you would have to leave the door open to prevent steaming up the mirror. The in-room AC was good, fairly efficient. Tiny TV on the wall (12 inch) and a simple table with a plug in water pot--only instant coffee or tea. There is a small fridge, but it is full of pay items. The towels are very thin, but large enough to cover up properly. There are no hand towels or washcloths provided. There was a thin coverlet on the bed, and no actual blanket. The breakfast was pretty terrible. Stale pastries, little variety, overcooked boiled eggs. Our hotel in Prague was half the price and had much better breakfast and amenities. The desk only takes cash for extra city tax on top of paid room fee and for tours. Avoid the tours they recommend. Tiny elevator only in service sometimes.
- Gordon (4/5): Small, unsafe and uncomfortable room - Free wine at happy hour was a nice touch. The room was very small, there was no safe, no screen on the window, and a key was required to exit the tiny lobby. This is simply not safe. You had to go next door and turn in your key when going out. When we returned from dinner that night, there was a new person at the front desk. He asked us what room we were in, and then gave us our key. He did not ask us for identification or what our names were. Anybody could have gotten our key. Again, not safe! There was no screen on the only window for our room. Also the window sealed with a small plastic tab, that could be forced open by a 6 year old child. Again, not safe. There was a hanging toilet bowl cleaner that gave off a very strong and very unpleasant smell. Since the room was so small, the smell was every where.
- Verified traveler (6/5): small hotel in good location - room was nice but right next door to kitchen so was noisy early in the morning
- Karen (10/5): Excellent location , great staff - If you're looking for opulence and luxury then the Caravaggio may not be for you but if you're looking for a great hotel in a great location with super friendly staff then this is the place. Quaint with a real Italian feel - you can't beat it for value for money. Would highly recommend and happily return
- R. Tilt (10/5): Four night city break - The hotel was well located, friendly staff, clean room, excellent value for money.
- Sarah (8/5): Wonderful stay - We had a great stay and the staff was very helpful and friendly. They recommended a restaurant down the street which had fabulous food. They also gave other good recommendations and the breakfast was the best we've had in Italy. The fresh mozzarella balls were fantastic.
- GR BEL (8/5): Great location, next to very fine dining places, near Termini - Rooms are small but very nicely decorated and very clean. Generous amenties and breakfast had a lot of choices served by very accomodating staff. Execellent value for price in an excellent location.
- Richard G. (6/5): Basic b&b standard - Very basic rooms ,good breakfast, brilliant location for many of Rome's attractions , No bar ,but guests are given wine and snacks free of charge in the evening in the small lounge area.Access to rooms is a bit of a chore ,having to enter by a different door at the side of the main street entrance . very quiet street ,but 5 minutes walk takes to a really buzzing street call Via Nationale . 10 minutes walk to main railway station.Good enough hotel for a short city break.very obliging staff.
- azra (10/5): Perfect for city break - Perfect stay, everything you could want or need for a city break in Rome. Good amenities and a lovely breakfast, location is perfect, very central. I highly recommend this hotel
- terence j. (8/5): Excellent 4 night siteseeing break to Rome - This budget hotel was in an excellent position close to Via Nationale and Piazza Republica so travel to the city's main sites was easy. Buses and the metro were conveniently nearby. Although small, the hotel room was clean and tidy with daily maid service. The double bed was comfortable and the bedding was changed during our four night stay. There was a mini bar and TV and the bathroom, although small, was modern and adequate. I was impressed with the hotel's security arrangements and the reception staff were most helpful. Excellent value for the money.
- Ineza (8/5): Nice hotel, best price, best location - Sometimes in the evenings was not hot water in bathroom.
- Sylvester I. (10/5): Home away from Home - The hotel was well located to tourist attractions in the city. Shopping was very easy because there a lot of them within a radius of 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel is very clean and the staffs where always at hand to help.I visited the Vatican, Colloseum, the Victori market .
As a matter of fact I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. My thanks go the members of staffs especially to KILLY one of the staff who would go extra miles to make your stay very pleasant.
- Kelly (8/5): -
Great caf??s and restaraunts in the area
- Mark (10/5): - Facilities: Top of the line; Value: Bargain; Service: Flawless; Cleanliness: Beautiful;
We are from New Zealand and dont speak italian but the staff were very helpful to us
- mr.p (8/5): great deal - Located centrally. Friendly and flexible staff. Great breakfast. No Wifi in the room unfortunately.. Good deal.
- Igor (6/5): Well located within old Rome. - The hotel staff is excellent, kind, and very attentive to the hosts' needs. However, the room was very small. Though we travelled at the beginning of the spring, the first night it was hot and there was no remote control for the AC. The street was noisy. After that, with AC and windows closed our comfort improved. However, the bathroom was extremely small. Im am large but not very large, and could hardly fit in the shower. I was wondering how would larger people manage to shower there. The bed was old and uncomfortable. Luckily we were so tired every night, that we kind of slept despite the bed.
- Antony (8/5): Good location, clean, friendly staff - Hotel is located in a quiet street just a block from Via Nationalle with all the stores. It is about 15 mins of walk to the heart of the old city with the Forum, Colosseum and etc. Hotel is clean and offer nice interior, breakfast is nice too and gets you started with the city exploration :)
- Nads (10/5): - Facilities: Small & cosy; Value: Great deal, Fantastic; Service: Flawless, Remarkable, Outstanding, Kind & considerate! ; Cleanliness: Immaculate;
Amazing location - no need to catch the train anywhere! Easy walking distance to everything !
- Liam O'B (8/5): Fine and dandy! - Hotel cannot be faulted for what you pay for it. Old school feel and excellent location make this a no brainer. The hotel is respectable, honest and clean, room was big and bathroom everything it should be. Small breakfast/dining area only added to the experience! Recommended for travellers on a budget but with hint of luxury.
- Ineza (8/5): Nice hotel, with the best location - Have been at Rome for international symposium and have staid at hotel for 6 nights
- griswalds (8/5): Great location! - Nice hotel, looks rough from the outside but once you get inside it's very nice. Staff was friendly and helpful and it was easy to get to the main tourist attractions, most were within walking distance the only taxi we needed was to Vatican and it was a 10 minute drive. Would definitely stay there again if I ever go back.
- Sodapop (6/5): Great location but the rooms are not comfortable. - The hotel was in a great location, however, the rooms were old the TV had NO English channels, the Wi-Fi was only in the lobby (and very slow at that).
The bed was extremely hard like sleeping on a slab of cement.
Breakfast was the only real good thing and it was clean.
Will not be booking again at this hotel.
- Anonymousse (8/5): Good budget friendly hotel - The location was very well/centrally located to all of the sightseeing. The WiFi worked only in the lobby and was a 4/10 at it's best. The free breakfast was perfect and the room was cleaned well. Elevator cost is 0.10 cents (Euro) per use.
- petyu88 (8/5): a week in Rome eith my family - It was a good stay in this hotel because the hotel's facilities were good and the staff was so kind. On the other hand the hotel is situated so close to the city centre (Colosseo, Traianus Forum, Fontana Trevi and so on..) and the public transport is also excellent near the hotel. Furthermore there are many good restaurantes, bars and shops in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Caravaggio had it all! - What a wonderful hotel with friendly staff. The location is superb and the price was beyond everything you would want in a large European city. They could improve on their consistency for wake-up calls, so maybe have an alarm on your phone as a backup. The breakfast every morning was delicious, especially the lattes and capuccinos! Looking forward to our return visit!
- Patrick (6/5): Fine - Quiet street, but still close to bars and restaurants. Short walk from the Colosseum. About a 15 minute or so walk from the train station. Breakfast area was cramped. Overall it was fine.
- Fun in Rome (6/5): Good value in a great location - The hotel is located in a great part of rome (easy walking distance to most main sights). As with most 3 star places in Italy, it is a relatively basic room, but has the important stuff. Can be a bit loud at times, but overall a good stay.
- Natalie (10/5): Perfect location for Rome! - The Caravaggio was an excellent hotel with an A+ location. It was extremely central to absolutely anything we wanted to see with two metro stops just a short couple of minutes walk away and restaurants everywhere nearby. The room itself was a very good size for myself, my husband and my 6yo son. The beds were super comfortable and the room was very clean. The minibar options were not stupidly overpriced like you will find elsewhere and the breakfast was very good with a good range for Italy (where they don't eat anything at all like an American breakfast). The AC worked really well. A wardrobe with plenty of hangars was provided for clothes. The bathroom was very small but it didn't bother us as the water was hot, the pressure was great and the hair dryer worked fine. If you come to Rome only to worry over a bathroom, you're in the wrong place! Overall, great hotel with very nice service.
- Colin B (8/5): City Break - Perfect for seeing all the sights of Rome which were mainly walkable from the hotel. Excellent value but not the best 5 star hotel but it did everything and more it promised for 3 star with very helpful and friendly staff and very much better than similar hotels stayed in previously. It is off the main road, quiet but is in an interesting neighbourhood with local cafes etc. We reccommend that visitors buy the Omnia Pass ahead of visit for cost and to eliminate queueing and disappointment to see the top attractions. Bus Shuttle from airport very good and near to the hotel. Tea making in the room would have been nice but coffee and the breakfast (very well served and sufficient continental variety) room were not far away. Free drinks and snacks every evening were well appreciated before setting off for the evening at a restaurant!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Roman holiday! - Spent a week in Rome Italy and stayed at this location! Very nice location in central Rome very close to bus routes and the metro system! Also plenty of restaurants located nearby! Staff very helpful especially during the continental breakfast time the staff makes your fresh cup of cappuccino for you! Wifi is not available in your room but it is available in the lobby area only!
- MAK1 (8/5): Worth its value, good location - location is central to most tourist activities, Italian style hotel, friendly staff.
- PA Nolan (8/5): Last minute stay - A very pleasant surprise for a last minute reservation. Only one night since we were flying out early, but we wanted to stay longer. The room was great, with a balcony overlooking the street. Happy hour spread and a breakfast, which we weren't expecting. And an antique elevator!
- Bern (8/5): European getaway - Nice hotel with funky old elevator that takes you to the rooms. Convenient location only 5-10 min walk to termini station. Close to shops and restaurants. Comfy room with basic but clean facilities. Free wine and chocolates on arrival. Free wifi and breakfast. Friendly staff. Would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent - A wonderful experience. Great location and staff and a decent breakfast. A little on the pricey side but you get what you pay for I suppose. The only con was the ridiculously loud bed that desperately needed replacing.
- Pshrynking (8/5): Clean, convenient, walking distance to everything! - We were mostly pleased with our hotel stay at the Caravaggio Hotel in Rome. From Termini, the hotel is only a few short blocks away, definitely walking distance if your bags have wheels. The hotel staff were professional and pleasant. We had a room overlooking the street and the size while on the small side was not cramped for the two of us. I have stayed in 5-star hotels that had smaller rooms. The WiFi was free which I was to learn was a rarity in Italy, so appreciate even more now! The rooms were very clean. The continental breakfast, including homemade cappuccino was included, which was nice to start the day off with juice and coffee and bread, cheese, ham, cereals, etc...
We did start training in advance of our trip, but will say that for us, in our mid-50s, everything in Rome was within walking distance. The hotel is also very close to the Metro stop just two short blocks away, the metro is very safe and easy to use and will get you easily to most of Rome's major attractions.
The only disappointments with the hotel were the inadequacy of the air conditioning in our room for the heat of the season, it was in the 90-100 degree range each day we were there. The staff did try to accommodate us to clean the A/C filter, and brought us a fan that made it very comfortable. They offered to move us to another room, but we were very satisfied with the room otherwise. The shower that others complain of, was more than adequate with good water pressure and adequate supply of hot water. No tubs. Elevator, quaint, but functional, and often we chose to use the stairs, but only out of personal preference.
I would most likely stay at Caravggio again, because of convenience and price!
- Reddevil232 (8/5): Loved This Hotel - The hotel is located only a few blocks from the colosseum. We split the city into quadrants and walked a different one each day. The breadkfast and the girls doing the serving and cleanup there were very good and a pleasure to talk to. The front desk was always helpful with information on how to get around the cityand what sites to see. The Happy Hour each night with free wine was a good way to unwind and gatter good tips from fellow travelers. The apples at the front desk were also a welcome delite during the afternoon walks in the hot Rome summer heat.
It would have been nice to have a Television channel in English and the bed was a little on the hard side. I reccomend the ower installing a cheap foam pad to the top to make them softer.. Thjat would have made my stay a 5 star.
- 1Michael (4/5): Tolerably decent - Being within blocks of the train station and the coliseum was a benefit for us. Otherwise it is a fairly unremarkable hotel. It was the cleanest hotel we stayed in while in Italy but if this is what passes for 3 stars in Italy I would hate to see what a one star hotel looks like.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Family holiday - Nice classic Italian hotel. Old furnishings but clean and well maintained. Good location and suited our purpose.
- George (6/5): - Facilities: Everyday; Service: Basic; Cleanliness: Tidy, Clean;
- Reddevil232 (8/5): Great location and great value - The hotel was centrally located for numerous walking tours planned out with the map provided by the front desk. It was only 3 blocks from the Metro for the ride out to the Vatican. All staff were very professional and the front desk personnel were very helpful with directions and general info. The breakfast was very good and the two Filapina girls worked very hard to take care of all the customers particularly Gina. There were always apples available at the front desk for the hot walks around town, but there seemed to be free cold running water every few blocks too. There was a Happy Hour from 6 - 8 PM in the lobby with free drinks and snacks and was a good opportunity to meet and talk with other travelers to get good information on the next days excursions. The only downside was the lack of English channels on the TV but old A-Team reruns filled in the little time we spent in the room. The bed was a little on the hard side for an old man with a bad back but I had no problem sleeping and only minor aches when I awoke, like my old bed at home used to give me. The only time we had a hard time sleeping was when a drunk decided to sing Volare outside our window at 01:00. I was getting ready to dump some cold water on him, but he moved on before I had the chance. LOL My wife and I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return someday.
- Julie (8/5): - Facilities: Good; Value: Affordable; Service: Good, Friendly; Cleanliness: Spotless;
- Linda (10/5): - Facilities: Nice ; Value: Great deal, Bargain, Fantastic; Service: Go the extra mile; Cleanliness: Spotless, Gleaming, Pristine;
- New retiree Jan (6/5): Good home base for exploring Rome - The room was attractive and large by European standards, but the queen size bed was hard and uncomfortable. Our room didn't receive daily cleaning service (only there 2 days and didn't report it to the front desk until checkout because we got in late). Helpful staff, happy hour snacks, good breakfast, and excellent location still make for a good place to stay.
- Trravelerr (8/5): Decent lodging on a budget - Pros:
-Short walk to most major sites.
-Supermarket located within a 5 min stroll
Cons:
-Really old building. The elevator attests to that.
- Klara (10/5): Caravaggio - more than expected! - We really enjoyed staying at Caravaggio. Being there during low season we were afraid there might not be AC and that we might get cold during the night, but there was enough heat for both of us. Nice clean room, comfy (firm) beds, not noisy at all during the night and a breakfast including both eggs, tasty bread, juice and fresh made coffee this was more than we could ever expect!
We had a great stay at this hotel!
- Trravelerr (8/5): Great location and value!! - Clean room. Well maintained. Boutique style. Everything you need is in 5 min walking distance. The staff is professional, but can be taken as unfriendly. This is the culture. You gotta love the 18th century elevator....lol! It works great, but looks like it should be part of a museum.
- Fred68 (6/5): Overall good value - Enjoyed our stay here. Staff were professional but for the most part, unfriendly. Breakfasts were good and breakfast staff were very friendly and the service was great (capacinos were excellent). Room was clean and within walking distance to many attractions. Short walk to underground for vatican, etc.
- Mark1444 (4/5): Disappointed - I did not like this hotel. It is not close to any of the sites and my room was unpleasant. No internet access in the room and cell phone or 3G network is not available in the room either.
- IckeySkillz (8/5): Perfect!!!!! - Location was ideal... 10 min walk to the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, ext ext.... Less than a 3 min walk from the U and bus stops. Staff was great, pointing out great "local places" to eat instead of the expensive garbage around the main attractions. Continental breakfast was wonderful, coffee made to order, fresh croissants, bread, cereal cheeses, quite enough to tide you over until a late lunch. The rooms were perfect in my opinion. Bigger than some I have stayed in. Not huge but enough room for you to sleep, shower and get dressed comfortably. Oh, and a happy hour every night, wine and light finger foods.
Would most definitely stay here again.
- 3 generations of women (8/5): love the elevator! - We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed every minute. Greeting us after a long flight the staff was delightful. He showed us to the beautiful filigree elevator door. Our luggage and the 3 of us filled the elevator, so he ran up the stairs to show us to our room. Breakfast was quite plentiful served in a lovely room. We loved the hotel and Rome.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very peculiar hotel - This hotel gave me very contradictory feelings: the personnel was very nice and helpful. The lobby was nice and wifi was free (I got connected in my room too, although this service is not provided), but the rooms were converted from flats and their access is NOT through the hotel lobby. Indeed it is through a door next door, which also serves as access to other flats. Access to rooms is probably the worst aspect of this hotel: after the main gate rubbish is dumped close to the entrance and the staircase to the rooms is also and badly in need of restoration. Once you reach your room you are sort of better. Our room was well decorated, with high ceiling and a nice bathroom. There are no tea/coffe facilities in the room, but the owhner left a small bottle of wine as welcome gift.
Breakfast is served in the SMALL breakfast room and it does not have cooked food neither ham/cheese. it has cereals, biscuits, toasts, jam, orange juice and some spreads.
