Guest Reviews
- BoKyung (8/5): - The location is perfect.
The atmosphere of the room was good, spacious, bright and cosy.
Just one thing, there was an unpleasant smell on the bed cover. It would have been cautious about it.
Overall, it was a delight to experience a stay in Locanda Gaffaro.
On reviendra!
- Mohamed (8/5): Good, cheap hotel - Location was great. The room was probably smaller than my university accommodation, though. It’s quite cheap and clean and hotel staff were happy to assist with stuff (extra towels, minor maintenance etc.). We had a leak in the air con which luckily occurred on our last day. Otherwise, it would’ve been very inconvenient.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good location, on a very quiet street. Room was better than expected.
- Gemma (10/5): - Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Locanda Gaffaro on our 3 night stay in Venice. Perfect location right near the bus station and about a 30 min walk to San Marco. Staff were lovely, welcoming and accommodating from check in to check out. Breakfast was simple but lovely and did the job of fueling Us before (a lot!) of walking in Venice. Would stay again and recommend. *****
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room is very clean and the staff is very nice and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room was clean. It was accessible and near to public transport and easier to go anywhere in Venice. Strongly recommended to stay.
Her yere yakın. Biz sel zamanı gittik, çok konforunu göremedik. Denenebilir bir otel.
- Vale (8/5): - Piccola camera ma molto pulita. Personale cortese.
- caron (10/5): Hidden gem - Fabulous hotel not far from Piazza Roma. We had the family room which had a little balcony. Spacious clean room and nice breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Michael (8/5): - Very good location. Quiet. Nearby lanes and square were picturesque.
- James (8/5): - Took a couple minutes to find the entrance, but it’s clean, quiet, ten minutes from the train station and the owner was very nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We liked the location, which was very convenient, and the fact that it was traditional and not part of a chain. The staff were really friendly and helpful.
- Roberto (8/5): - El hotel bueno
Un poco solo el regreso de noche
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely. Helpful staff. Good location near to Piazzale Roma and Sam marco
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very far from everything, so many stairs had to carry my own laugage, no air condition, rude staff I will never recommend this place, expensive
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is good area quiet and near the bus and train station . Breakfast very good
- David (10/5): Very Enjoyable 6 day stay - Quiet Square location,,just off the tourist area, clean bright room, nice breakfast, short walk from the airport bus dropoff point
- Verified traveler (10/5): - THe property was quiet and clean. The owners were very responsive and location directions were excellent. Breakfast was light but fresh.
- John (8/5): overnight stay near bus/train/cruise terminals - Hotel is in a convenient location near the train/bus terminals.. less than 10 minute walk.. quiet area
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent Location, very friendly staff, breakfast ver good, we love everything.
- Mehreen (8/5): - I highly recommend staying in dorsodurro whether it's at this hotel or any other. Area is central and felt safe even when we went out late evening. This hotel is based in a quiet street. Bus stop and water bus stop near by about 5 to 10mins walk. Better to get a 3 or 4 day ticket for water bus rather than using gondolas as they are pricey. All main attractions were nearby even island murano and burano. There are few restaurants nearby too. Lady who owns this hotel was really lovely and so were the staff who served breakfast and cleaned our room daily. Breakfast was good too. The hotel could do with a bit of renovation but beds were comfy and bathroom was nice and clean so if you are going to spend whole day outside. This hotel is good to stay.
- Brandon (10/5): Cozy stay - Cozy hotel. A bit dated. The room where we stayed had very noisy floor boards. I didn’t mind, but I hope there was no one living under us. The room was spacious enough. The bed was comfortable. The drinks and snacks in the mini bar were very reasonably priced. The bathroom has a bidet and toilet. The shower is very small. I’m a thin guy and still had to turn sideways to get out of it. Things like that don’t bother me though. Venice is small, so the hotel was within walking distance to pretty much everything. I’d stay at this hotel again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property looked a bit strange from the outside but very nice inside, they let us check in much earlier. Location was dood and central, nice and clean room. Thank you
- Laura (10/5): - Lovely staff and petite, yet well appointed accommodations! Good location!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - An old hotel that is past its best. Gloomy room, no rugs on cold floors in my room. Central heating did not work for several cold nights. Breakfast minimal.
- pete (10/5): Great location - Great hotel very close to the bus and train station and water taxi stop from the airport 5 to6 minutes away
- Slav (8/5): - Great little room and fantastic staff. Especially for the price!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice home away from home - Was good location great service
- Tridh (10/5): - Rooms were large and spacious. Hotel was lovely. No detail overlooked. Staff were gracious & friendly. Would definitely stay there again.
- Rezina (2/5): Would not recommend - Poor breakfast. Not much choice. Not having cash paid city tax by credit card, lady at the front desk was rude.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The entrance is hard to find. Very convenient location. Room is a bit small, but okay. It's great place considering the price.
- Justin (10/5): - The room was cosy but the service, the staff, and location was great. Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Check in was easy and pleasant. The staff was very friendly and helpful! The room is clean but a little small but you get what you paid for. Venice hotel are expensive and we just needed a clean room for a night. Had a pleasant stay and would recommend this to friends n family who is traveling with a budget.
- Esme (10/5): Cozy hotel a short walk from Piazzale Roma - Since I was travelling solo and didn't want too much stress on arrival, I chose this hotel due to its convenient location. I took a bus from Marco Polo airport to Piazzale Roma, and then walked about 12 minutes to the hotel. It was easy to locate using Google Maps. Be aware that the reception is located in the co-joined hotel.
The room was quite charming in its decor and the bed was comfortable, Wi-Fi was excellent, and there was a good clean bathroom. Being out of the hubbub of the main tourist areas, I could thoroughly enjoy walking across the city, for example to Piazza San Marco, taking in all the wonderful sites along the way.
- Aaron (8/5): Good - Very nice place, good location. We didn’t like the “double bed” because it was actually two single beds pushed together with a very uncomfortable seam in the middle. Other than this, liked this stay
- KAMELA (10/5): Cozy place close to public transport - The locanda was in a quiet place, close to Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia station.
Clean and warm rooms, very good breakfast, the owner recommended us a nice place to have dinner close by.
Very good quality price ratio
- Mark Anthony (10/5): Okay stay - This was the cheapest I could find in the heart of Venice and it shows. However, it's cozy. Prime spot; it's a very short walk from the terminal. It's a short walk towards the Grand Canal and many, many establishments. The breakfast buffet is decent. One of the male staff (maybe the owner?) did not seem too friendly but he was accommodating enough and answered all of my questions.
- duba (6/5): Uncomfortable bed - It was okay except for the bed.. which is a big deal when traveling
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet area - Quiet area, few min walk to restaurants, walking distance about 10 min to train station. Enjoyable time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place ! Quite ! Clean ! Friendly. - Late check in is a great option here! Great time. Close to everything but yet far enough from the crowds!
- Ginger (8/5): Excellent location for Piazzale Roma - Only had one night so wanted to be near Piazzale Roma. Excellent location just off the tourist mainstream. Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful.
- Jose (10/5): Nice hotel! - At the beggining it was kind of complicated to find the hotel because it doesn't have like a visible sign but we ask to a person that was near there and he told us where it was! The hotel was super clean and the lady from the staff was super nice!
- jay (8/5): small but adequate room - good location in old Venice, typical (read - very small) European style room. within walking distance to the people mover train, water taxis & gondolas - nice places to eat everywhere. if you decide to use the hotel you will need to gather any items such as water or snacks before 8 PM as all of the local shops close early in Venice. WIFI was a bit slow but I didn't spend much time on the internet
- Vishaish (2/5): NO WIFI, RUDE 60 year old OWNER - 1st off all it is a guest houae and not a hotel. It is by far the worst hotel I have stayed in my life and being a airline pilot I'hv stayed in quite a few. The owner are a very old couple who are always irritated and frustated. Their standard reply is NO to everything you say. And they always give a rude and negative vibe. NO WIFI at the HOTEL. Dont get fooled by fake promises. At the breakfast the items finish 20 mins before the mentioned time. And the only hotel I have been to where the breakfast service is only for 1 and a half hour.
- Gaby (10/5): Nice and quiet - Nice quiet location away from the crowds but close enough to bars and stores.
- Melissa (10/5): great stay in a cute Italian hitel - very nice and cute hotel, friendly staff, the free breakfast was very good, the location was quiet and secluded but just around the corner from a lot, short walk to bus stop
- Juan (8/5): Great hotel - Clean and comfortable hotel close to the train station.
- Verified traveler (2/5): We booked based on reviews... - We figured 4/5 stars seemed quite a good average for a 3 star hotel in Venice. When we arrived though, we checked in and were brought to the top floor of an adjacent building. The room was located all the way at the very end of the hallway, right under the building's roof. Due to the shape of the roof, the ceilings were very low and I wasn't able to properly stand up in any part of the bathroom (I'm 1.8m tall).
Due to the location of the room, our iPhone and Android phones as well as the Mac laptop barely connected to wifi. In fact, we ended up staying in the lobby whenever we needed internet access.
The room itself felt dirty. It felt like the room didn't get cleaned properly after the previous guests left.
On the first evening about half way through taking a shower, the water temperature dropped and all I got was cold water. We reported that to the owner and he said he was aware of it and that a technician would fix it the next day. Due to the fact that we didn't have internet access, stayed in a small, dirty room with cold water only we asked to get a refund or discount on our stay. We were promised a discount of roughly 1 night, but when we asked to get that paid back, the owner asked for our bank details to transfer the money. We agreed to discuss that during checkout.
We checked out at 7am during the week, but the lobby door was closed. We called the owner and he said we could put the key in front of the door. We never got a refund.
Avodi this place.
- Chung-Yu (10/5): Perfect location to get in, out & around Venice! - If you are looking for the perfect spot to get in, out, and around Venezia quickly without sacrificing sleep or "atmosphere" quality, Locanda Gaffaro is it!
The location of the hotel is impeccable: although only a 10-minute walk south from the train station or the parking garage, the hotel is yet in the center of a residential neighborhood and is quiet at all times. Further 10 minute south is the S Toma vaporetto station which you can easily reach Piazza S Marco. Frari and S Rocco, along with many cheap eats particularly in the local favorite Campo S Magherita, are even closer to the hotel.
In other words, you are essentially in the center of the authentic Venice with easy access to other parts of the city thanks to its proximity to many vaporetto stops!
While the hotel room itself is not glamorous, its homely setting makes it a perfect place to rest from exploring the beautiful Venezia because of the quiet environment. The included breakfast is a simple yet high-quality selection of choices of pastries and cold cuts to give you a jump start for a new day of exploration. If you are a family or a group, you even get your own balcony over the serene courtyard! No matter what though, a beautiful canal is literally steps away from the hotel door.
Overall, I highly recommend staying in this hotel, regardless of the length of your stay! The location simply cannot get any better especially if you plan to use vaporetto.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great. - Great hotel. We will definitely stay here again next time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great little spot, highly recommended - We had a really lively stay at this hotel - the staff are very friendly and the property is located far enough from the tourists to fel less crowded but not so far that you can't walk there
- Ben (8/5): Nice quiet little hotel - Comfortable clean nice helpful staff, located in a quiet area, nothing much else to say, would recommend it to others. Expedia should not bully people into writing more than they want to!!!!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): excellent place - Excellent Internet, extremely fast, was able to watch Netflix even, great staff, very homely and private, the best location in between everything and right next to the landing station
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good - Hotel was as expected, no surprises. It wasn't too hard. Google map took us right to the hotel. Breakfast was not too bad either. coffee in breakfast was great. staff was friendly and helpful.
- cathy (8/5): Great family run hotel - Lovely Little hotel, great value ideal location for Piazza delle Roma we just had an overnight stop there , very clean , beds were a little hard. Lovely freshly made breakfast, only gripe was the entrance is round the back through a gate which late at night made it hard to find.
- Carolann (10/5): Lovely experience, which I will always treasure! - Very memorable, typical European décor and area. I (we) just loved it. The very private entrance gave us a very comfortable feeling (3 ladies travelling).
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay to explore Venice - We really enjoyed our stay at Locanda Gaffaro. Close to the train station with not to many bridges (=stairs) to get there, in a quiet location with a view of a canal. Our room had enough space to stay with 4 people, reasonable rates, very clean and super friendly, helpful personnel. Breakfast included fresh coffee, espresso, cappuccino..., rolls and croissants, jam/Nutella, cold cuts and cheeses, cereal, yoghurt, and juices. While we did not use it, the minibar in the room was actually very reasonably priced. There was a trattoria close by with good food at a much lower price than places closer to the sights. It was easy to walk to sights or catch a valporetto.
- Ajinkya (8/5): Pleasant stay, helpful staff - We arrived a little early in Venezia, but the manager was very friendly and we could keep our luggage there and explore the city till check-in. We could also keep the luggage there till our train out, which was fantastic. This is considering that Venezia Santa Lucia does not have lockers and each piece in the Deposito Bagagli (cloak room) costs 5-6 euros per piece for 5 hours.
The rooms were clean, the wi-fi was a bit spotty, but fast, and the bathrooms had a bidet ! :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Hotel. - The hotel was as expected. Very much enjoyed our stay. Wonderful staff, typical Europian hotel breakfast, very good. Would stay again if we return to Venice.
- Robin (8/5): - Nice accommodation with nearby good restaurants.Breakfast good and convenient, quiet location not too far away from the obvious tourist places in Venice. Would stay there again for all of these reasons.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great and calm location with restaurants - My husband and I liked this hotel that is far away from the noise of the city but still 8 to 15 min from great places to go. Who doesn't want to walk a little to see marvelous places in Venice? Nice to see local people around doing their day to day things. Very polite and nice people. Breakfast is great but don't go at the end close to 10am otherwise it won't have much left. Clean and well treated! Overall a very nice stay!
- Ann (8/5): Quant, immaculately clean and nice romantic area.. - Hotel was a bit difficult to find. Lovely setting with small courtyard, garden and patio. Lobby, sitting area and room immaculately clean. Small shower but ample toiletries and lots of towels. Comfortable bed with nice linens. Didn't stay for breakfast, but it looked adequate. Downside: checked in 2:00 p.m. Sunday and unable to access internet until Monday morning.
- Tim (8/5): Hidden hotel off the beaten path - We stayed during Carnivale and had a great time. It was on the island and close enough to walk or take a water bus everywhere. It's a little far to get to San Marco but water buses make it easier. The hotel had breakfast in the room each morning and was definitely a great deal since it was much cheaper than most of the larger hotels.
- Esther (6/5): venice. - Three nights - owner stayed up to welcome our late arrival....breakfast in room rather than dining room...perfectly adequate otherwise for short sight seeing visit to Venice.
- Don P (10/5): Hotel easy walk from Train Station / Piazzale Roma - Easy walk from Train Station / Piazzale Roma. This was our second stay there. The hotel is a little hard to find so study a map. Once you know where it is, the signs along the way from Saint Mark's take you right by the hotel. It is off the main canals so it is an extremely quiet area.
- Andrew (6/5): Good (relatively) inexpensive hotel... - The room was tiny, but clean. We needed a place to stay overnight, and this Hotel was perfectly fine. It was a bit hard to find since the entrance is in a court yard. It would be good if on reservation they mentioned that Hotel Al Malcanton is under the same management, and if nobody opens the door at Locanda Gaffaro, ring the bell at the other one. It's definitely a good hotel for the price. Our main requirement is cleanliness and quiet -- it was good.
- Joseph (8/5): Ok hotel close to everything that we wanted to do - Hotel was fine clean and was close walking distance for shopping and the canals
- Brad (4/5): Surprising note left - The hotel left a handwritten note under the door that upon checkout there would be a CASH payment required for "extra person" fee and city tax. There was no mention of this at check-in. The cash request seemed odd.
- sarah (10/5): Lovely little hotel in Venice! - We stayed in a room for 4. It was a little cramped as expected but the slanted ceilings were annoying! I'm only 5'2 and I bumped my head several times - especially in the bathroom! HOWEVER, we were not in Venice to hide out in a hotel! The staff was very friendly, the value was incredible, the room was clean, and the location convenient! I would highly suggest this hotel to anyone visiting Venice who wants something nice but not an unreasonable splurge!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charming little hotel in a quiet area - It is nice that you don't need to take water transportation to get here from the train station. Be sure to know where you're going beforehand through--lots of windy roads a bridge or two to cross. We were supposed to have breakfast in the garden, but due to rain, the hotel staff brought breakfast to our room. The hotel is located near the campo where there are many restaurants to choose from.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I found it difficult to locate even with google map. No clear display about the hotel
Room was clean. They charge for the drinks provided in your room. The council tax of 2.50€ per person per day was charged without receipt. Breakfast was very average with just choice of croissant and bun
- Naomi (8/5): Great hotel close to the train station - We had a great stay at this hotel, the staff were so welcoming and always happy to help. Bonus that we had a room with a balcony. The room was very clean and tidy and had a safe. The bathroom was also very clean and with fresh towels each day. Close to Piazza Margherita where there is great food and drink. I would definitely stay here again.
- Heather (8/5): Nice hotel close to restaurants - This hotel is fairly close to the train station in Venice, but make sure you get directions beforehand/bring a map because it is very easy to get turned around. The room was fairly clean, but the top comforter had multiple stains and we had mosquitos in our room every night, and a lizard on out last night. Other than that, the room was very nice and kept cool with AC. Breakfast in the morning was very nice and consisted of meat/cheese, cereal, rolls, and yogurt. The location of this hotel is close to numerous restaurants that are within walking distance.
- John (8/5): Away from the crowds - Great location close to the train station yet away from the crowds. Two nights quiet with a nice breakfast each morning. I didn't even know that there was a front desk downstairs until it was time to check out. The staff was courteous and their English was sufficient. Must climb the stairs but the smell of the flowers in the courtyard distracts from the effort.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable room for my family - Comfortable room for my family. Location is perfect as it is just back from the main tourist area so its nice and relaxing and quiet - perfect after a full day of wandering around Venice. Staff helpful and friendly. Amenities are on the basic side but as the room is really only for sleeping, it is just right and priced properly.
- Dollie (8/5): Great holiday weekend! - We spent Saturday night at the hotel and loved it. Very quiet area. The staff was excellent. Very friendly and helpful. We booked the room with one double and two single beds. My ten year old granddaughter slept on the small bed. It was just the right size for her. We loved having our breakfast brought to our room! Would definitely book this hotel again!!
- Louis (8/5): Comfortable little hotel - Small inexpensive hotel in Venice. A terrific neighborhood - not many tourists, walking distance from station, Piazalle Roma, Scuola di San Rocco. Clean, small room - lovely breakfast in the garden, weather permitting. A little difficult to find at first, but worth the search.
- Istvan (8/5): - Nice place to stay, near the main station, very short walk from the piaz. Roma.
- Schatze (8/5): perfect location - We stayed at this small and friendly hotel for 3 nights in May. It was in a perfect location, a tiny and quiet square in real Venice, where the locals live. The breakfast was adequate, service friendly and the room very comfortable. The hotel is a 15 minute walk through the old streets and across the canals away from San Marco and other tourist attractions, 10 minute minute walk away from the Lagoon and the water taxies and cruise terminal at San Sebastien. There was a handy grocery store with a wide range of goodies near San Sebastien cruise terminal. This route makes an interesting alternative walk to San Marco, along the waterfront. Would stay there again.
- wandering2013 (8/5): Classic B n B - Clean, small B n B. The walls were thin (traditional building) but the yummy, hot, fresh breakfast brought to the room every morning made up for it. The service was lovely and the location was quaint yet convenient. Perfect place to escape the carnivale craziness when you need to.
- Richard (10/5): Great no frills, best bang for your buck hotel - I think the best way to describe this hotel is as the best no-frills, best bang-for-your-buck, type of hotel. It was a little difficult to find, which is just the nature of Venice to begin with, but it's a 10-15 minute walk from the train terminal. The host/owner was a kind and warm older gentleman who helped with local recommendations and made the stay very easy. Room was well maintained, and although I thought the funky green theme was a turn off in the pictures, it was a very flattering design in person. Amenities are all modern. Breakfast was included, which consisted of breads, cereal, croissaint, espresso, orange juice... your basic italian breakfast. I had no complaints at all about my stay and would definitely stay again if/when I return to Venice. The neighborhood is a residential neighborhood for the most part so it's not overcrowded with tourists, which to me is a plus. If the owner is reading this, thank you for your hospitality.
For reference, I stayed 1 night on 1/9/13. The hotel would be on the level of a 3-star hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very good hotel in Venice - We loved this hotel in Venice, very good quality/price ratio. The service was very good. The rooms where comfortable and big for Venice standards. Recommended
- Motti (8/5): great location, great hotel - We were a family of 4, the location, near the central bus station, but not at the noisy part of venize is the best you can get.
- Younossi (6/5): - This was a decent hotel. The owner and the people that worked there were very nice and accommodating. It is very close to Piazza Roma, so if you are driving that is where you would have to park. You can not drive up to the hotel. It is also very close to lots of good restaurants and stores. You can either walk half hour or take the water bus to S. Marco Square. The area is much quieter and less touristy than the S. Marco Square area. The AC never worked properly, so it was always on the warm side. Finally, the first night we stayed in a room on the third floor, which has low sealing and is quite hot. So request a room on the lower floor.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice short stay hotel - Locanda Gaffaro is a nice small hotel in a "not so close to the center" location but very safe and cute, walking distance to train/ bus station which was VERY convenient considering the suitcases!. Food is WAY cheaper here than near San Marcos. Rooms were clean on the small side, AC and breakfast included. Breakfast was very limited, coffee, juice, dry croissants and toast.I would totally stay here again, staff was very friendly and even if we got there before the room was ready we were allowed to leave our stuff inside.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Hotel - This hotel is about 15 minutes walk to train and bus station, it's located off the main road, not too easy to find. But good value and good breakfast.
- PINGKAN (6/5): IT'S OK, VENICE is interesting, but Once in a life time is sufficient - The room is too small for 4 people. It's suppose to be a family room in the attic with 4 beds. But we got triple room, with 1 extra bed.
Breakfast was good, but nothing special.
