- Philip (4/5): - The room was very dusty, it had not been cleaned well. It really needs a deep clean. They moved us to another room which was acceptable, but not great. We ended up buying some wipes and bleach and cleaning the room ourselves. We stayed here as part of our honeymoon trip, so not exactly what we wanted to be doing. I could not recommend this hotel, given the price. Location is good, but there are other options for a similar or lower price.
- Yayoi (10/5): - The only thing to be aware of about this property, as with many European buildings, is that the stairs are extremely steep. There is an elevator, but some levels still require that you are able to navigate them.
- Ariel (10/5): - This hotel is amazing! The manager was very friendly and provided suggestions. As a solo traveler who is a woman, safety is important and this location felt very safe. It was clean and simple. I would highly recommend and stay here again.

- Helen (8/5): - Love the quirkiness of the interiors, room was quite small, we were in the attic room, ok for our 3 night stay any longer and it would have felt quite cramped as there’s no seating area, only the bed. Breakfast was adequate with enough options, continental breakfast. Location great, nice quiet residential road but close to all the museums, transport and plenty of restaurants within an easy 8 min walk.
- Jessica (2/5): - As a frequent traveler to Amsterdam, I can confidently say I’ll never stay at a Max Brown hotel again. While the beds were comfortable and the views nice, the negatives far outweighed the positives. Check-in was a nightmare — rude and unhelpful staff, and no notice of construction that woke us at 7 AM with drilling and hammering. The buildings have extremely steep stairs, making them impossible for anyone with bags or mobility issues. Locations are less convenient than advertised, and our room reeked of cigarette smoke because staff members were smoking at the entrance. Rooms also had stale air and little charm. Max Brown hotels could be lovely, but the lack of service, transparency, and comfort makes them a hard no for me.

- Amy (10/5): - We changed to this property not long before we were due to go on our trip due to terrible reviews from the hotel we’d already booked. So so so glad we did this! The hotel was beautiful (very steppy though so not great if your mobility isn’t good) although there is a lift inside but has many steps up to the building. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The rooms were very clean and loved the decor. The beds and pillows were the comfiest I’ve ever slept on I think! Really really pleasant stay - thank you!

- Verified traveler (10/5): Cozy in Amsterdam - I won’t lie, the room was VERY small, but enough for a single person and the bed was very comfortable. The location could not have been better, with very short walking access to Vondelpark and a stone’s throw from the Rijksmuseum. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I appreciated the time they took to give me some local recommendations.

Not only it was decorated in a very fun way, but the view was gorgeous. I spent hours just reading and looking out the window in the late evening. I'd love to go back again some day.

The property was decent, quite pricey though, drinks in the room should have been complimentary - especially bottles of water. Room should have had a fridge. Two sockets in that room did not work and create unsafe fizzling sounds or it would charge my phone/laptop very slowly.

The outlets are not convenient and the rooms are really tiny. The windows are often blocked, very drafty and difficult to close. We basically paid 400 Euro for a shoebox with 3 cots in it. I can’t say enough about the location but the rooms were overpriced and not comfortable at all.

- Chris (6/5): Not worth it. - We booked the 2 double bed room. This is not a room which holds 4 people! There is one double bed and a sofa bed (which was made up upon arrival) There is no room for anything else. Also no fridge to store drinks incl milk. No long life milk provided either. The bathroom is also too small for 4 people. The staircase into the hotel is steep and absolutely no way to carry your cases up the stairs in the hotel. Only way up is via one lift. I wouldn’t stay here again. And then the kicker on checkout is the 10% tourist tax. Thanks Amsterdam.
- Margot (6/5): - We stayed in a standars double room. I t was possibly the smallest hotel room I ever stayed in. It was very hard for two people to move without bumping into each other. Bathroom was miniscule. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, but thw person sleeping on the inside had to crawl over the other person to get in and out.

The bed was so comfortable I never wanted to leave it, and there is Aircon. The shower needs a little upgrade but worked fine. Quiet area and plenty of access to trams and nice little restaurants.

The rooms were very tiny and to stay one night was perfect but I wouldn’t want to plan a few days there. We were on an overnight in Amsterdam which worked out perfectly.

And they have a ask only policy which is good but even after two days you ask, the rooms are not refreshed (no beds were made. Only fresh towels were provided (good) and dustbins cleaned (good). The public transportation connection is great another great feature of this hotel, the lovely surroundings make it even more exceptional.

- Jens (4/5): Stay away! - I know the rooms in Amsterdam hotels are small but this one is outright fraudulent. We booked a medium room which was advertised at 16m2 (here and on their own website) but the room was barely 13m2 even if you ignore walls. There was also black mold on the window frames and the radiator couldn’t heat the room properly. Stay away! I complained to hotels.com and the reception and I’m yet to receive a refund. The receptionist was friendly about the situation and tried to help but there were no other rooms available. We had to find a different hotel last minute with no help from either.

- Ross (8/5): - We stayed for 4 nights in the hotel in October. The hotel was easy to get to from Schiphol Airport, with regular Train, Tram and bus links. We ended up catching the 397 bus which was efficient, quick and took us to within a street of the hotel. The hotel itself looked great, with a lovely looking bar and reception area. The staff member who checked us in was friendly and told us everything we needed to know. There is a lift to all floors, however we used the quirky staircase which looks really cool. The room itself is small, but we expected that from our research. It's well appointed with ensuite, comfy bed, tea/coffee machine and a TV. Plenty storage areas for clothing and luggage. The basketball hoop on the wall was quirky and it was fun throwing the ball through the hoop while getting ready. The bed was very comfy, and the curtains and window shutters ensured a very good night's sleep. Handwash, shower gel and shampoo are all supplied and the rainfall shower was powerful and hot. Minor points would be the basketball was a little worn and ripped, and the ensuite placement of the toilet doesn't leave room for maneouvre! This didn't detract from the stay and we really liked the room. The hotel is very well placed for exploring Amsterdam. It is very close to the bars and restaurants at Leidesplein and, of course, the museums. There is loads to do. To summarise, staff and property are excellent, we had a great time, and we will definately return.

Also, although we were told that the rooms are cleaned every other day, our room wasn’t cleaned and our stay was for a total of 3 nights.

- Manuela (6/5): Way too small room… - The room was WAY too small, specially for the price paid. I’ve been to Amsterdam before and always stayed in chain hotels. For my birthday I wanted a boutique experience and selected this, it was a big disappointment the room felt like a hostel room. The wooden furniture didn’t have any finishing and instead of the rustic-eco feeling I believe they intended, it felt cheap… unfinished. The bed, in a kind of bunk bed style felt cheap, with 3 walls surrounding it forcing couples to step over each others to enter or leave the bed. The staff was nice and the location superb but next time I’ll stay in a chain hotel again.

However, our A/C wasn't working, which was fine with the windows open until it rained quite hard and we had to close them - then it was very stuffy. However the staff were very kind and im sure they will fix it before the next guest. Would stay here again for a quick tourist visit
- Mariel (6/5): - Liked the location (very convenient to museums and public transportation), and the staff was very helpful. The beds, though small, were surprisingly comfortable, and the decor was unique and fun. However, there were some issues with the room. There was no AC and we checked in during a heat wave, so a member of the staff graciously put us in a room at the basement level, which was thankfully much cooler. Despite this, the room had issues with humidity and the bathroom walls and shower had patches of mold and mildew, which only got worse during our stay. Leaving the window open and running a fan provided in our room did little to help the issue, and some clothes I washed by hand took several days to dry and our bath/hand towels were always wet. Though not a major issue for us, it's worth noting that the walls are thin and doors slam, so if you get particularly inconsiderate neighbors, it won't be enjoyable. We were also promised that housekeeping would come by every other day to clean things, but they never came, so the bathroom only got worse. Overall, this place was great for its location and helpful staff, but lackluster in cleanliness and housekeeping services. Still, there are many, MANY worse places to stay in Amsterdam (speaking from experience), so as long as you request a room on a higher floor and insist on housekeeping services, you probably will not have the mold issues that the basement level has. Not sure I'd stay here again, but I would stay in the neighborhood.

Our room wasn’t as nice as the images chosen by the site. t’s worth paying close attention to the description - the loft is a ok size room with a large bed and sofa bed in. It doesn’t leave that much room but is comfortable enough as you would want to be out and about seeing the sights. The bed was very soft which is good or bad depending on your preference. It was very hot whilst we were there and there wasn’t any air conditioning (again check the description as it probably is listed as n/a) but they did offer us two decent fans. Staff very helpful, area is nice and safe, foyer is nice. There is an elevator which is good (and necessary!) We probably would opt to stay a little further out at one of the chain hotels for a similar price in hindsight, mainly so we would have air con!
- Kathryn (10/5): - Everything was wonderful! The bathroom is a little tiny, but other than that it was perfect.
- Olin (10/5): - Great spot! Everything was clean and staff were very friendly.
- Paula (6/5): Do not stay in the summer. DOES NOT HAVE AC - The hotel location is good and the bed comfy. However most of the rooms do NOT have AC so staying here in the summer months is a nightmare if you want to get some sleep. They don’t advertise AC so that’s my bad for not checking. Some of the rooms on the 4th floor DO have AC but they couldn’t move me when I rang reception. I stayed here mid week when the weather was 29 degrees and got 4-5h sleep both nights. Not ideal when you’re in business meetings all day. I would recommend it in winter months but NOT in the summer. At £180 a night for mid week I expected this to be a given. My fault! Don’t make my mistake!
- Ken (10/5): - Neat hotel just one block away from the museums in one direction and the main tourist shopping area in the other direction. They have rental bicycles on site which is the best way to get around the city. Staff was nice and helpful
- Caroline (6/5): - It's well decorated and styled, clean, nice amenities and extras, lovely staff and good breakfast. In a lovely location too, but there is no escaping that it's an old, cramped and poorly sound proofed building and no amount of nice hand soap will compensate for that.
- Hemang (8/5): - Our family of 4 stayed for 3 nights in their largest room. We had a nice stay. The staff was extremely friendly, the room was modern, clean, and the location was great for waking and taking public trans. The included breakfast was underwhelming. I don’t think the rooms have AC and with only 1 small part of the large window to open in mid June, we were a little warm

- David (6/5): - The location is excellent and the staff were great, but the room itself was very small.
- JOSEPH (10/5): - Great professional staff and perfect location for visiting the most important sites/sights in Amsterdam.
- Amy (8/5): - The location of the hotel is unbeatable. There is an elevator and the street is quiet. The rooms are classically small like traditional European hotels.
- Yoav (8/5): - pleasant stay. rooms a bit tiny. air condition in the room wasn't satisfying
- Jordan (10/5): - Close to museums, streetcars, buses. Plenty to eat in area. Hotel clean staff excelleht
- Geo paul (10/5): - Very good neighborhood and not too far from Amsterdam central. Easy access to Tram stop.
- Hayley (4/5): - An overpriced stay (having booked the extra large suite) to be put into a room with a cramped bathroom and no proper storage. Seating area has metal chairs rather than comfortable seating, and the room was so cramped for the bed that the shutters (which were broken so that we were in darkness) could not open. Bathroom was incredibly cramped - as two petite ladies even we had trouble, and the sink had no area to store makeup bags. Extractor fan not working, so we had to prop the bathroom door open for steam to escape. Only two plug sockets in the room, and the shower flooded. Room was very hot despite putting the Aircon onto 16 degrees - in the heat of summer this would be unbearable. The safe did not work and someone from reception had to come up and replace batteries. The room was made up once over a four-night stay, and we had to ask for every little thing like new tea bags. Additionally, I had requested a room with a balcony or at least as described on the website, and when we checked in and saw that the room was much smaller and had no balcony, we queried this with reception and were met very unsympathetically with excuses of "the building is very old and the rooms are all different". I understand this however rooms should not be significantly smaller than advertised. If there are such discrepancies between rooms in the extra large suite category, more photos should be added onto the website showing large differences. £140 city tax upon arrival. One helpful lady at desk.

- Michael (10/5): - Location, location, location. Just minutes to walk to all the major art museums. Trams just a block away. Great restaurants nearby, all within easy walking distance. Friendly staff and excellent service. I'd definitely stay here again.
