Guest Reviews
- Samuditha Nayanajith (10/5): - Easy access
- Michaela (2/5): - Terrible experience do not book here.. our flight got delayed so we arrived later than we had hoped. We tried to contact the hotel to let them know we would be late for check-in, and nobody responded. We arrived and rang the doorbell for 30 minutes with no answer, even with calling and messaging the hotel. We had to book another accomodation for the night. We then came back the next day to check in for our second night, and the hours for reception advertised as 9am-10pm. We arrived at 11am, and again rang the doorbell for 20 minutes, called and messaged with no response. We returned for the 3rd time at 6pm, same thing happened. Luckily, another guest was coming out of the hotel and we asked them help. They went inside to try and get a hold of the reception, and 20 minutes later they opened the door. There was no apologies, just excuses and saying we were "unlucky" that we rang when people weren't there. The reception then said that we should have called his personal number to get let in.. How were we supposed to have his personal number when we couldn't get into the hotel and talk to anybody? We wasted so much time and money trying to get in to this hotel. Especially for the price, just book somewhere where you know you will be able to sleep. The actual room was not too bad, but the service was ridiculous and I would rather not risk wasting my money
- xristinapapadrosou (2/5): HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE - ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING EXPERIENCE – AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I stayed ONE NIGHT at Hotel Kap and it was a NIGHTMARE from start to finish. They gave me a key card FOR THE WRONG ROOM. Yes, you read that right. I was locked out ALL NIGHT. I spent hours outside the hotel, calling and calling — but guess what? There is NO RECEPTION at night and NO ONE picks up the phone. I even had OTHER TENANTS call on my behalf and they ignored EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US.
This is not just bad service. This is a COMPLETE DISGRACE.
When I finally managed to get someone the next day and asked for a basic compensation, they had the AUDACITY to be IRONIC, as if it was MY fault! Unbelievable arrogance and total lack of responsibility from both staff and management.
This is the WORST hotel I have EVER stayed in, run by people who clearly have no idea what professionalism or basic human decency is. If you value your time, your safety, and your sanity, do yourself a favor: STAY AWAY FROM HOTEL KAP.
I will be posting this review on EVERY SINGLE REVIEW PLATFORM — Google, TripAdvisor, Booking.com, everywhere — because people NEED TO BE WARNED. This place is a scam, and no one deserves to go through what I did
- Lillie (10/5): - Dylan was so nice! So close to Heineken tour and lots of bars! Stairs are a bit steep but it’s what made it so fun!!
- Ryan (8/5): - The property is very basic but clean. Would benefit from an internet connection especially for those traveling.
- Rebecca (8/5): - This property was located in a great spot for half museums and central spots. metro right there! staff was great. no bells or whitsles but a place to rest your head as you explore!
- Arash (8/5): - The scenery was nice, room was big and yeah great
- Damian (6/5): - Generally a good stay but steep stairs only for fit people
- Antonios (2/5): Bed bugs! - We booked because we thought that size was the only issue with these rooms. But that was not the only problem. We found bed bugs on the bath towel and in the bed. Thankfully we noticed before sleeping. We know that they were bed bugs because we checked their look from the internet. We immediately left. It was midnight and there was no one in the reception to verify the bed bugs. We tried to get a refund through Hotels but Kap denies that the hotel has bed bugs. I sent an email but got no answer. Therefore i am uploading the pictures for anyone who things of staying at this awful place, to decide themselves.
- LUIS (6/5): - If you just need a bed in quiet area and something close to public transportation this is your spot but that’s about it.
- Richard (8/5): - Well located and great value for a couple of nights in the city
- Alysse (10/5): - The hotel was all we needed, very clean and friendly staff!
- Dijana (10/5): - Quiet area, very close to restaurants and bars, metro is 5min walk away. Clean room, towel change every morning, kind staff.
- Denny (8/5): - Hotel Kap is in a good location, with helpful and kind staff, I stayed for 3 nights on the ground floor, the room was very spacious, had a working refrigerator, hot showers, gopd restaurants near by in a quiet neighborhood, the only is was a few bugs flying around, i was bit by mosquito, I would recommend the hotel, no elevator.
- Mary (6/5): - All good
- Klaus_Jensen1 (2/5): Good luck - The pictures you see on different booking platforms does not represent reality. It’s small and really needs maintenance. It’s horrible. clogged sewers, lack of maintenance. paint needs a really refresh. But you will find super friendly staff
- Alberto (6/5): - Staff was very helpful and kind.
- Paul (8/5): - Nice neighborhood very walkable location. Friendly staff. Minimalistic rooms but comfortable.
- Rinaj (8/5): - Good place to stay
- Bridget (6/5): - Dylan was very helpful upon checkin. However, he did not arrive until after 10am. Two separate websites (Hotel Kap themselves and Expedia) specified that we would be able to leave our luggage beginning at 9am prior to check in. We were told they do not store luggage. Dylan was exceptional in going above and beyond to store our luggage and deliver it to our room when questioned regarding posted policies. Rooms are cleanly but tight. Well located for Heineken. Easy metro ride to Centraal Station.
- W8049IPannam (10/5): Nice basic hotel - A cute little hotel just a block or so from a Tram and Metro stop. Walking distance to MOCO, Van Gogh Museum, and Heineken Experience. Building is over 100 years old with narrow stairs and no elevator, but not a problem for us. Front desk guy was friendly. Room was decent sized, with 4 twin beds. En suite bathroom was updated. Nothing fancy, but good price for a room near city center booked last minute.
- Ben (8/5): - We got this hotel last minute and we’re scared it was a bit too much out of the city centre, we were so pleased that there was a metro opposite the hotel which was convenient for us to easily and quickly get to different places in Amsterdam whilst saving our legs up for a long day of walking. The hotel was amazing, the beds were comfy and always clean thanks to the amazing staff. When we greeted by the manager he was very welcoming and friendly to us and made us laugh aswell after a stressful day. Overall great hotel and would fully recommend
- Sylvia (10/5): A short city stay. - I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We were satisfied with our room with 3 single beds! I think their bed sheets are vegan/nature treated. The bathroom is spacious. Thanks especially to Mr. Front Desk Man. You helped us a lot with infos about going to the city.
- Felicitas (6/5): - The hotel was under renovation and we could not leave our luggage stored today. This was really inconvenient and hindered our last day in Amsterdam
- Vanessa (4/5): - Great location wakable to the Tram but not recomended for a family. Everobody is smoking outside the building and it have to many narrow stairs.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Small old room , smelled like sewer every morning in the bathroom. The front desk people were great.
- RANJIT (6/5): - Old boutique hotel without elevators to bring belongings to 3rd floor. Hotel needs elevators.
- Jennifer (6/5): - The hotel was conveniently located within walking or tram distance to all of the popular sites. Our room was on the top floor, which was fine, but guests should be aware of some very steep and narrow stairs. The room had everything you needed, but the bathroom had a pretty bad smell, and it appeared that over time water from the shower had leaked out into the room because the floor was quite warped.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely accommodation - We stayed only one night but were received by such a lovely hotel staff. Our room was so quaint and clean and we enjoyed the view from our window. Would absolutely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for the perfect location and stay in Amsterdam.
- Stephanie (10/5): - The hotel staff is super friendly! We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel.
The bathroom and bedding were very clean. The location is great - right next to the Heineken museum, lots of restaurants around and just 1 subway/tram away from the city center.
- Ramiro (8/5): - Good value for the money. I believe we paid 1/3 vs similar options. Yes, no elevator... room service... stairs are not good if you had a few drinks. Just a clean room with (in our case) 4 beds and a more than acceptable bathroom. I just don't understand when people pay 1/3 and complain for not having what 2 or 3 times more expensive places would give you...!
- Beverley (4/5): - Had notified we arrive late.
Once off the tram we did not which direction to go. Asked someone who sent us in the right direction wrong street.
We finaly made it.
The gentleman on desk told us we are late and he was about yo leave. He said he had sent an e-mail but i did not receive it.
We were charged an extra 30 euros.
Then there was no lift and we were on the 3rd floor. Was told we are in a budget hotel.
The gentleman in reception did help us with our luggage in the end.
The room was very small it was really a single room.
No heating.
The sink in the bathroom took its time to empty.
The room was clean and bed was comfy.
I wouldn't stay again.
- William (10/5): - Great hotel, the owner wasnt too annoyed we checked out a little late. Would defo stay again!
- Fabiola Ahumada (10/5): - Our room was not that clean. The sheets were nasty. The staff was great
- JEFFREY ACOSTA (6/5): - Good for overnight stay. Not recommended for people with DISABILITIES.
- Constance (10/5): - The manager is a hoot and very helpful. The room was huge even with 4 beds in it. There was no elevator and the steps Were narrow and steep but because it was a converted home, it was lovely.
- Laura (10/5): - The staff are awesome. Very friendly and helpful staff. A very unique old building.
- Timothy (8/5): Better than expected - Better than I expected. Nice clean room, decent shower and on fairly quiet road for a central location. The only things that let it down are a lack of luggage storage (but Amsterdam does have a lot of paid locations for this - eg on Bounce) and (perhaps strange to mark down) that they replaced towels which were hung up (costing them money and worse for the environment). The guy on reception was nice enough and it is close to an excellent pancake house for a lateish breakfast.
- Ashwin (6/5): - Its not exactly as in the pictures. Property is quite old, but clean. Well located and service is ok.
- Jack (10/5): - Clean, Tidy, Great location and more than willing to help and provide us with some great suggestions for nightlife would stay here again defiantly
- Celine (6/5): - Veey well located property, nice house, netflix, close to ligh rail
- Emyr (10/5): Friendly hotel - Room was nice enough, clean tidy and a nice bathroom. Beds very comfortable.
Most of all, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, going out of their way to help us. Gerry even gave us a lift in his own car to our next destination - Rotterdam! Huge thanks!
- norhene (10/5): Nice stay - Manager/owner was very welcoming and made us feel at home.
The place is located in the quiet side of
Residential area yet walkable to the attractions.
Will stay here again if back in amsterdam
- Wendy (10/5): - Staff very friendly and accommodating. Definitely would stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good value for money. Room was, the location is great, very close to main attractions
- MK (8/5): - The hotel is conveniently located near public transportation and great restaurants in De Pijp neighborhood of Amsterdam. Staff were very friendly and responded quickly.
- Jessie (10/5): - We had an amazing stay with these guys! The staff here is insanely friendly and helpful. The stairs are super steep but the staff will help you with the bags.
- Anna (8/5): - Great location, friendly staff, very small room. But if you are looking for a place to just crash at night, it is fine.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I have mixed feelings about this. The location was very good, not too far from metro station. It's only a few stops to main train station. The staff were very helpful. It's on a quiet street.
On the downside, for the price I paid I found the room a bit disappointing. It felt in dire need of a makeover, flushing the toilet sounded like a mini earthquake was starting. I went for a walk early in the morning before checkout and then returned to find my room card had stopped working. The stairs are really steep so take care carrying
heavy luggage.
There is no breakfast but there are a few decent options within walking distance.
If you're not spending too much time in the room, want somewhere quite central and feel the price is fair then I'd say it's ok.
- Mironica (4/5): Don’t go there! - Hate it! I paid $200/night and it is way overpriced! Also I paid for a lower level room and when I got there I was told that they are overbooked and all they have is a room on the third level! No elevator! I never saw steeper stairs in my life. Also very narrow, that looked like the stairs from hell!
The room wasn’t any better. Basic! Walls painted white, some parts are dirty! Bathroom sink almost on top of the toilet! And smelled like pee during the night! The wardrobe was in bad shape, same of the drawers were coming apart! Big window with a balcony that is in fact a fire exit!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was so kind to store our luggage upon our early arrival and when we came back later in the day to check in the luggage was already in the room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel near the center of the action in Amsterdam. Everything is within walking distance from the Heineken experience and museums to the red light district. Great location
- thao (8/5): - Overall is good if you don’t expect any luxurious stuffs. The hotel has towels, toilet paper, soap and shampoo, hair dryer and a little fan, and a pitcher for you if you need hot waters, and TV. Room service is every day to keep the room clean. The receptionist is friendly. The location is perfect because it closes to the boat/hop on hop off bus/restaurant/musium... would recommend if you want to look for 2 stars hotel to stay in the center of the city. Only the stairs is too steep, so be careful when going up and down. The door knob is very difficult to open.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice little hotel with private shower. Close to public transportation.
- esterm458 (8/5): Great stay - My family and I stayed at Hotel Kap during a brief visit in Amsterdam. Our room had four single beds. There was just enough room for four people with luggage. The bathroom was very clean and felt like it recently had been renovated. Wifi was good and there were electrical sockets to charge your electronic devices. The man who helped us during both check-in and check-out was very friendly and charming and gave us helpful recommendations of both grocery stores, restaurants and tourist attractions. The location was good being located only a few hundred meters from a subway station and walking distance from the city. However, the only way to get up to the rooms was through climbing a very long, steep and narrow staircase and there was no elevator. As we stayed here in summer and there was no air conditioning, it also got really hot in our room. It’s worth to mention though that we got a fan that helped at least a bit with the temperature. It was really good for a two-star hotel and overall we had a great experience with Hotel Kap! Would without a doubt stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good for the price. Good location. Surprisingly quiet. No elevator and very, very narrow staircase. Nice staff helped carry luggage up and down from room. Good choice for budget conscious younger person, but sadly not a great choice for this 70+ traveler.
- Lynny (10/5): - Jim on reception was brilliant.he gave us an upgrade on our room which was fantastic.beds very comfy and great shower, spacious and clean room, couldn’t have really asked for more, very happy with hotel kap,we will definitely be staying there again 👍 Room 7
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good sector close to many attractions, cons, no elevator
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed in room 12. The Honeymoon suite and it was fantastic! 😆
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The tv had no ariel so no signal. Apparently this has affected most of the rooms and not been fixed for several weeks. Which is rather poor atitiude on the part of management.
The room was small but the beds were tiny, I am only a size 6, so take note.
receptionists were very nice and helpful, but could not sort the tv and a cup of coffee is not a reasonable exchange for such loss of facilities
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Dirty hotel would not recommend to anyone, them stairs are certain death
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I really enjoyed the onsite staff, as he was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and spacious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The manager was very helpful and ready to give us tips on sightseeing, starting with coffee shops places to eat etc
- maz10123 (8/5): Great stay - Travelled here with friends, great location, the room was big enough for the 5 of us and the towels were changed every morning. Beds were comfortable and the room had lots of space for us to be comfortable for 3 days.
The location was great as we were going out at nighttime, and sightseeing during the day.
The stairs in the hotel are extremely steep but this is just expected when in Amsterdam. Both receptionists that we met were lovely and welcoming.
- N (10/5): - Great location and great staff. Less than a 5 minute walk to the Heineken brewery and canal taxi.
Very clean and comfortable and far more modern accommodations than one usually has in a two star.
Strong recommendation! I’d definitely stay here again.
- Mark (10/5): - This was the second time I've stayed at KAP. The reception guy and cleaning staff were friendly and helpful; my room (12) was clean, nicely presented and had a decent shower; I wasn't kept awake by excessive noise, and the place had a nice laid back vibe to it.
- Nathan (8/5): - Easy place to stay. Close to everything but on a quiet street.
- auroramitge (10/5): Amazing - I would like to give thanks to the KAP staff. They are amazing people, friendly and really good attention to the guest. I had been there this summer for a few days, it an excellent location and everything spotless. High recommend.
Aurora
- David (8/5): The location was very good, but for the very small - Great location but small room. Concierge was very helpful. Garden area at back was not accessible
- 347derek (2/5): Rummen place - Stayed here for 3 nights with Jonathan. I dunt think they have ever heard of health and safety. It was really hot in the room - as soon as you left the shower you needed another one. The stairs were as steep as a fluctuation in foreign currency and the banister on all stair cases nearly came off in your hand. Every day the cleaners blocked the corridors with all their gear - health and safety that is. The Hall way stunk of rotten fish. Dunt even get me started on Mr Chang “the concierge”...
- jonl48 (8/5): Bootiful - Situated in a roight quiet area, about 7 euros travel from most of Amsterdam by one of them ole taxi cabs. Me and my friend, ole Wayne, stayed here for 3 nights to get drunk and have a good time. Stairs were hard to walk up when we were drunk and there was a fishy smell in the ole hallway which was weird. Beds were comfy enough so got an alright nights kip. Worth a stay if your with friends.
- alimiller2018 (2/5): Disgusting and dirty - Paid 360 Euros for a 2 night stay in their small twin room..Room 9. Small was not the word, Beds didn’t touch the walls at the ends nor sides, so pillows fell off end of beds. When you sat on the toilet your nose and knees were flat against the bathroom door.
Walls were several colours of white and very dirty and you will not get more than 2 suitcases in this room. Blood spots on the sheets and bit to hell by Mosquitoes every night.
Apart from that...location was good.
- Neil (10/5): - This hotel is in a great location for walking to the Museums and the various restaurant areas. The staff are very helpful. The bathroom was great. The room was a little tight. Uber Eats delivers so no problems with food choice if you don't want to leave the room.
- Not Provided (8/5): Decent hotel for the price - Okay hotel. The bathroom is really small. We enjoy the balcony.
- Martin (8/5): Basic clean good staff and and could be better - Its quite central for amsterdam if u want a basic clean place to base yourself from its perfect for a single person or a couple very polite and helpful staff just a shame my kettle didnt work and no mugs spoons sugar tea or coffee maybe something they can improve on
- Robert (10/5): Great location and service - The man at the front desk was exceptional (wish I knew his name). He was very kind, friendly, and helpful. Our family of 4 had 4 single beds which was different but we were comfortable and the bathroom was updated which was nice. The biggest thing you should know before going here is that there is no elevator and the stairs are nearly as steep as a ladder. Our front desk man was quick to help us in and out with our bags, which was huge with the challenging stairs. The location is steps from the Heineken Experience and the Metro which brings you to Central Station. It's a walkable city and the hotel is in the perfect location to access everything easily.
- syncomm1 (10/5): Great location and super proprietor - I was in town and my daughter was needing a reservation when arrives later in the month. So I booked the room online and went over to check igt out. Mr Chang the proprietor is a kind and helpful man. The location can't be beat. Close to the center but in a quiet block.
- Mark (8/5): Met My Needs (I was in Room 10) - The hotel was what I expected for a 2-star: not luxurious, yet clean, comfortable and with helpful staff on hand to provide any assistance needed. In fact I have to say that the guy on the front desk is a great bloke (I was stoned most of the time, so I forget his name) and was really friendly, helpful and had a great sense of humour.
The stairs were fine for me as a young traveler who's in good shape and carrying light luggage, but others may want to bear in mind the two - three flights of steep Dutch-style stairs.
There is some noise in the mornings, but if you take earplugs like I did then it won't be an issue - and even if you don't, the noise is hardly a racket: just the occasional shutting of a door or people talking in other rooms on the landing.
If you want a basic place to crash for a couple of nights then this is fine and I would definitely book there again.
- nic (4/5): Hell from start - We got there and there was power cut all day.
We got there 11am power cut from 9am that morning till 8pm that night.
For some places, other places had no power till next day.
We couldn't book in.
We had to get a cab from airport as the trains and trams wasn't running properly. the cab driver had to drop us like over a mile away from hotel as he couldn't get near there cause road closures.
The cab cost us €65
No trams was running!!!
We Came bk to hotel around 8pm then we booked in
The power went off again at midnight for 15 mins.
We had no heating!!
The room was filthy dirty!!!
Dead bugs all over walls!!!!
Beds was all stains (blood and wee)!!!
We had to live out of our case as there was no wardrobe or drawers
No restaurants although you advertise one on the SITE!!!!!
The pictures on the site are FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!!!
There is a kettle in the room but they couldn't find a spoon never mind a cup to make tea ECT!!!!!
(What's that about) ?????
How you can charge that much for this hotel is a JOKE
Have to say the STAFF was great 10/10 but the hotel 0/0 is too good of a rating for this hotel
You couldn't swing a cat in the room ( as the saying goes)
Not a good start to our anniversary weekend
Dirty weekend what a joke the only dirty we got was been ripped off
- AlexG2834 (8/5): Simple hotel in a nice location - Even though the hotel and the rooms are very simple, the location is super nice and the owner is always there to help you with a smile. The rooms are clean, the water hot and the heating is working just fine. I'd say one of the best things is the location. You can get anywhere by foot.
- banglee (6/5): Good location - We used a triple room. It was right next to reception room on ground floor so I didn't have to climb steep staircase as I read in other review. Worried that it might be too noisy everytime guests arrive but it was alright.
The room was newly renovated. Nice, clean and spacious. Had a balcony with a table and chairs but didn't use it since it's too cold to stay outside. We left the food itmes on the table to be chilled since there is no fridge in the room. There is a kettle(no ceramic cups) and a fan. The room was warm enough for winter. But not sure how hot it can be during summer and how one small fan can cool down the temperature.
I liked the big size shower gel and shampoo just like the ones we use at home. No toothbrush so need to prepare your own. 3 sets of towels for us but there is no towel rack in the bathroom so we had to leave towels out in the room. There is a metal hanging place after shower but not enough to put 3 towels. I hated the basin. When I washed my face, water was splashed so much and the floor got very wet since rack right above basin occupies half of the length. You cannot put your face right above basin. Not sure if you can picture it but even if I put my face sideways to wash, it was difficult. Water temperature and speed control was all good. There is NO LOCK in toilet. You see everything from side gap if you use toilet but the other side of gap(facing shower booth) was covered properly. I was with my children so didn't have to worry about anything but if you travel with friends, note that fact.
It was walking distance away from Rijks mesuem and Van Gogh museum. The biggest street market, Albert Cuyipmarkt, was close too. Many coffee restaurants choices. Indonesian, Nepalese, Japanese, Korean, Mexican.....etc. We toom a tram from central station. 4 stations away on tram 24. We walked to Ripley's believe it or not and toom us about 30 mins. My plan to go around town was buy day pass but many places are walkable from here so ended up walking everywhere.
The tripadviser page said that this hotel provides free breakfast but be aware that there is NO FREE BREAKFAST. I asked about that and reception guy said they got rid of service about two years ago since not many people showed up for breakfast and they had to throw away a lot of food.
Reception guy was the gem of this hotel. He was very friendly and approachable. Always eager to help and answer your questions.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very clean, moderately comfortable. - The staff was very nice and helpful. Hotel is walk able to city center and was pretty easy to find. Loved that the place was so clean. Warning: stairs are super narrow and inclined.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable place, residential neighborhood - I really enjoyed the location of Hotel Kap, pretty great value. My only comment is the door is a struggle and look out it likes to pinch fingers.
- Anita (8/5): - Small hotel. Clean. Not a lot of amenities. Great location. Short walk to Heineken experience , canal tour. Close to public transportation.
- Sofia (8/5): Happy guest - Very nice and kind staff, horrible stairs, clean, small, newly renovated bathroom, no shower curtain, smelled a bit of mold, comfortable beds. This was the cheapest we could find at this time in Amsterdam, and staying there with my boyfriend it was just enough and great for us :)
- Z8160LKmartal (4/5): Mouse in the room/Ratón en la habitación - During the two nights a mouse was inside the room and the hotel staff reply about it when we're leaving was just "we'll cover the holes later, thank you". We couldn't sleep well with the mouse eating our sweets through the bags (as you can see in the pics). On the other hand, they didn't clean the bathroom in our whole stay.
The receptionist is nice but he didn't give us a solution or an economic compensation in the room price.
- kriswis (8/5): Small hotel in quiet residential area - Hotel Kap met our needs but if you have large suitcases or if you have any physical challenges this is not the hotel for you. Very very steep and narrow steps. They are in the process of renovating the rooms so hopefully that will take care of the only one electrical outlet in the room. The staff was more than helpful in calling a cab for our departure and carrying our luggage up those steep steps. You're a two minute walk to the Heineken Brewery and it's in a very safe neighborhood. Room five has a newly renovated bathroom and comfortable beds.
- Kat (4/5): Not what I expected - This hotel is well-situated on a quiet street near the museums. However, for an extended stay, of more than one night, it is not suitable. The room I had was very small, and didn't have anywhere to hang or place clothes. The bathroom was so small that it was impossible to sit on the toilet without bumping into the sink. The toilet cover was also broken. There was no elevator, but the staff person helped me get my luggage up to my room. I decided to go elsewhere after my first night, but did not get any refund.
- Jade (8/5): Central location, good sized room, friendly staff - Although the hotel isn't the best, for the price it is perfect. Lovely facilities, central location next to lots of transport links. Man who checked us in was very helpful, gave us lots if discount vouchers and let us keep our bags in reception as we had arrived early. We had a 4 person room meaning lots of floor space with the beds pushed together.
- K1213 (6/5): Fair price for a fair room - Greeting was welcoming, the hotel is steep as most places in Amsterdam are so if you have any ailments with aches/pains then I would advise against this particular hotel. Although it was dated it was clean and tidy. This is as close to the centre you would get without paying a fortune. Literally minutes to the local shop and tram. Wasn't informed about breakfast so we went out and spent money so was disappointed when I got home to realise this.
Negatives are:
smelly drains from shower/sink
Steep stairs (however to be expected as this is dam)
Positives:
Close to transport and shops
Friendly
Tv in room
Newly refurbished bathroom (the room we had anyway)
Would I recommend it? Possibly for the price but I would also look around a bit too.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Room only big enough for one person not twin share - Room only big enough for one person not twin share. It is irresponsible to sell it as a twin share room. With 2 beds, the gap between the 2 beds is wide enough if you walk sideways. You cant even open your luggage in the room. The power points are high up the wall. I have to charge my phone with it hanging off the wall. It's crazy impractical.
- William (8/5): May Bank holiday weekender. - Great helpfull staff, clean hotel, just make sure if your checking in, after 11 pm you do let them know a time you are going to arrive. Other than that nice balcony room on 2 nd floor. Easy to use trams to Amsterdam central. Quiet location.
- SidharthaD (8/5): Nice hotel though under refurbishment - We found this hotel through Hotels.com and stayed there for 2 nights in May. The location is just fabulous and it is extremely close to the Heineken museum and reasonably close to Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh and Stedelijk museums. The tram stops are nearby and there are some good places to eat around the area. Central Amsterdam and the canal areas are fairly close as well (if you take an Amsterdam travel pass).
As the hotel was fully booked, we had to spend the first night in the smallest hotel room one could imagine. This room (I think Room 3) didn't even have an attached bathroom and it was a massive pain to go all the way down to the communal toilet every time. I would ask the owners to even stop advertising this as an available room. We were majorly upset but the owner was extremely nice and gave us a bigger room for the second night, which really made up for the bad experience the night before.
The hotel has clearly seen better days and seems to be under renovation. Once that is complete, I am sure the experience would be much nicer. Overall, from our experience, the hotel was fairly clean, authentically Dutch and generally liveable.
- kylew803 (8/5): Nice hotel, reasonable location - I spent 3 nights in this hotel with a stag party that traveled over. While it is a stag party we're not mad lads so wanted somewhere nice and calm to stay for the weekend to relax when we weren't out. Hotel Kap is lovely, excellent bathrooms with really good showers and spotless inside. The rooms were basic with had plugs to charge our phones and comfy beds so you can't argue with that. With 100% recommend this place for a weekend.
Do be aware that it's about a 30 minute walk/5 minute tram ride into the city center. We had no trouble navigating and it's not expensive but you will need to travel into/out of the city.
Very very steep stairs, didn't see any lifts.
- Phil (2/5): Cheapest option near town centre - The hotel staff are very helpful and polite. The location is good as it is only a 30 minute walk to the city centre. There are also tram stops and plenty of bars and restaurants near the hotel, along with the Van Gough Museum. However, the facilities at the hotel are some of the worst I have ever seen for the price. We paid 140 Euros per room. One of the rooms was half decent as it at least had a wardrobe, kettle, a sink big enough to use, and a place to hang your towels. The other room had none of these things. It was no more than a box room. We could not put our clothes anywhere or hang our towels. The room was not cleaned once in 4 days. We got some fresh towels on the final day and that was because they got our check out dates wrong and cleared all our belongings from one of the rooms 2 days early. In the hotel's defense, Amsterdam is ridiculously expensive for accommodation and this was the cheapest non-hostel accommodation available. You get what you pay for but unfortunately this time we paid a lot and got virtually nothing. Apologies to the hotel staff as they were lovely people.
- kpdebru (6/5): Small authentic hotel in a quiet neighborhood - Spring 2017 I booked for 2 nights through Expedia, finding it via a search of "Hotels near Van Gogh museum" (this was true, only a 10 minute walk). Our bright quad room had floor-to-ceiling windows and an updated, decent-sized (for Holland) bathroom and four twin beds. Clean linen was provided daily. The hotel seems to be in a residential area, as it was very quiet outside. First night was peaceful and silent. Second night we were awoken by guests checking in late at night and trying to enter our room. Lucky for us we put chain on the door (MAKE SURE TO USE THE DEADBOLT). Hotel is close to a grocery store, which is good because there did not seem to be a "Dining Area" or "Outdoor Seating Area" as pictured online by former visitors...nor were they offered by hotel staff. The tram stop very close too. Don't bring a car because there is no place to park. The stairs were steep but after visiting family members in other parts of Holland, steep staircases seem to be the norm. Staff was friendly, but the office is closed between 23:00 - 8:00. Another thing: there is a ONE WEEK cancellation policy, it's easy to miss this when you book.
- Jeff (6/5): OK, but small quarters - We chose to get the room with the double bed. The staff warned us it was small. It was -- very very small. The staircase is very tight, very steep, and with very small steps. The location, though, is great. It is perhaps a 5 minute walk from the Heineken Experience (that is on all the maps, so it will help you locate it better) and maybe 20 minutes from the museum district.
The hotel is quiet and the neighborhood is quiet.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect location .not to busy - Great hotel clean conditions , friendly staff . Great location
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely hotel, nice bathroom and very clean - It was great, we weren't too far from central and the bus stop back to the airport. The stairs were really steep but it was a good hotel. Internet was good near the reception but if you are on the last floor it isnt great.
- pam (8/5): very clean and comfy stay - we where on 3rd floor which stairs is a problem so not advisable for anyone with back or walking difficulties. . and no lift. . did speak to owner when we left and he did say we could always have a lower room in future but he said for quietness 3rd floor was best ... room very small but very clean and beds pillow and duvet extra soft .. the bathroom area was very small but good enough to shower and do what needs to be done in bathroom .. can't wait to come back for another stay
