Guest Reviews
- Jeandré (8/5): - Was clean and great location
- Rodolfo (6/5): - Very good location but the place is old,
- Gabrielle (8/5): Convenient comfortable B and B in a quieter area. - Difficulties with getting in as given the wrong door code! But sorted by phoning the manager.
A large room, welcoming helpful staff in the breakfast room where a good continental breakfast was served.
A good position with excellent double glazing and functionning aircon . No TV.
Don't waste your time and energy with the requested online checkin, all done again at the reception anyway!
- Sylvie (10/5): - Super hébergement à un tarif raisonnable.
Petit déjeuner copieux compris.
Bon accueil
- Jesus (10/5): - Very nice staff, enjoyed the breakfast. Our flight was cancelled and we arrived the next morning and our room was still ready and they were understanding. Neighborhood was charming.
- Mégane (10/5): - The body Emanuele is very kind the place room and bathroom was impeccable very clean and confortable, I highly recommend it, good place in Venise
- Gina (10/5): - Tiny room but clean and perfect for our needs. We only stayed one night so a small spot was just what we needed.
- Melica (10/5): - Very nice staff and really clean! We enjoyed our stay
- MICHELLE (8/5): - We stayed 2 nights. The staff are absolutely lovely. Our room was spacious, and we had access to everything we needed for a short stay. It's a very short walk to the nearest ferry stop making it a great spot for navigating around Venice.
Breakfast was lovely and they were able to accommodate my gluten free requirements once I let them know I'm coeliac.
We were on the 2nd floor and had to carry our heavy luggage stairs up and down but aside from that we found our stay very enjoyable.
Unfortunately, we were pick-pocketed nearby which we have learnt is a wide-spread problem across Venice so stay alert and take precautions to protect your valuables while visiting this beautiful city.
- Ehsan-ul (8/5): - Online chwcking was difficult. Had to wait to talk and get assistance to getting in. Otherwise service and location to river bus was excellent.
- ramin (10/5): - There were mosquitos in the room
- Rebekah (10/5): - .
- Amrita (6/5): - Great location and helpful hosts but the b&b is dated. We may have misread the advert but our room did not have an en suite and although there was a private bathroom for the room, it was located across a short hallway. In this hallway there were also storage room/areas and so we could hear the host/cleaners get supplies. There was a privacy screen which we used, however, we would often find it open. It would have been nice if it was closed to maintain our privacy once the hosts accessed the storage areas next to our room.
Overall, clean room with okay breakfast with a good location. Just to be aware there is a room which is not en suite and the rooms decor is dated.
- Joyce (6/5): - Bed and pillows not very comfortable. Wasn't given proper information to get the front door open. Our remote for the a/c was missing so no air conditioner. Called the contact number over and over but no one answered the phone. It was only 5 pm.
- Arbind (10/5): - The owners were very helpful and kind.
- Ella (8/5): - The staff and breakfast were phenomenal. We did not realize the bathroom was not attached to the room which made showering/using the restroom inconvenient. Overall would stay again but would like to get a room with attached bathroom next time. Great stay!
- James (10/5): - Al Campaniel was a great place to stay and Emanuel (owner-operator) was incredibly sweet. We had a safe and cozy room at a really affordable price point. The breakfast was a good continental breakfast with fresh fruit, pastries, coffee, meats and cheeses. The location is perfect and the accommodations and service were very excellent. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast!
- Marek (4/5): - This is not a hotel. It's an older Airbnb. Our room for 2 persons was very small. Bed was semi comfortable. The main problem is the bathroom is NOT connected to your room. It's very inconvenient. You have to leave your room into the hallway with other rooms around. In addition, you will be given a separate key to open and lock your private bathroom. This is a pain if you have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and go through this process. In addition, after showering you have to completely dress in the small bathroom bringing your clothes or run to your room through the hall in your towel and other guests could be passing through the hallway. Worst part of the stay. The owner was very nice and it was a good continental breakfast.
- Sheryl (10/5): Comfortable and convenient - Our stay was wonderful! The owner is very accommodating and the service was great. Breakfast was included which was a nice touch and really good. Our room was comfortable and clean. The location was convenient to the vaporetta stop and very quiet. We would definitely recommend this place!
- Heather (10/5): - Marco and staff were AMAZING! Very accommodating and helpful. Wonderful breakfast in the morning. Located super close to a water shuttle/bus stop. Very clean room and comfy bed. Thanks for everything! Would definitely come back here again!
- Lisa (10/5): - Our stay was lovely. The hosts were kind and gracious. It was easy to walk to the vaporetto and a pleasant walk to San Marco and all the sites. Highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable. - Very central to all attractions. Extremely helpful host and room comfortable.
- Lesa (8/5): - The owner of the property was overly accomodating and helped us navigate the city and call taxis.
- Duncan (10/5): Really great B+B Stay - Lovely B+B with a good breakfast to start the day. It was a really nice, clean room with lots of aminities and plugs to charge our stuff overnight. Would have been very happy to stay longer.
Biggest issue was that we didn't know it was near a water-bus stop until we had walked through half of Venice. Connections to St Mark's Square are great!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It was so cold at night and the heater didn’t even work! I wouldn’t recommend staying there.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Location is great. It’s really more like a B&B.
Like you are at your grandmas.
- EP (8/5): - The Al Campaniel is a good value. The room was clean, reasonably sized, but not exceptional. Very well located and close to water bus station.
Hotel staff was very helpful and courteous. I would not hesitate to use again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cute bed and breakfast that’s close to most of the tourist stuff, 10 minute walk to the bus/train/taxis, and a small but good breakfast provided. At night the walkways would be a bit busy and noisy but it wasn’t too bad. It is an older house and the walls aren’t very sound proof so when you’re there make sure you’re respectful and quiet. Our room was a good size with a queen bed, 2 night stands, 3 chairs, small table, desk, and private bathroom with a stand up shower.
- mark (8/5): Great - Good location and great host.
- Kaitlin (10/5): Perfect! - Fabulous experience! The owner was very kind and welcoming, the room was in a great location in the center of Venice, breakfast was filling and we have no complaints. Would definitely go back!
- Sheila (10/5): - What I liked about Al Campaniel was 1) Mr Marco's hospitable breakfast room 2) local art as decoration
3) close to the University
- Matt (10/5): - Great stay! Fantastic location and the host, Marco was helpful and kind.
- Catherine (10/5): - Felt very welcome and we had a lovely stay there .
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful little guesthouse in convenient location - The host was excellent, the guesthouse a compact but comfortable place to spend a few nights in Venice. A simple but filling breakfast in the morning saved used us a few euros each day, and the proximity to San Toma Vaproretto station made travelling around a breeze (it's still quicker by foot from the bus/train station).
- Prem (10/5): - Just what we wanted. Nearby to San Marco and around. Would pick the same stay again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Perfectly fine and good value for the price. Included breakfast is perfectly adequate. Host is quiet (shy maybe?) but efficient and caring. It's not luxury, but sufficient, especially when visitors typically are not going to be in the room much.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Perfect location. Market just outside, vaporetto stop - 100 m. Small but very practical.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - the property is old and outdated. It was hard to find it in the first place with several streets with the same name. Narrow stairs and no elevators.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice bed and breakfast. Clean and just in the perfect area
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room is clean but tight. The a/c barely blows cold air. The bathroom location is misleading. It is actually outside of the room although reserved for just us. The host wasn't too considerate, held us up asking for our passports and visitor fee while we were soaked in the rain. I guess business first before comfort. Overall, it was a fair stay but could have been better.
- RK (10/5): - The location was great and the property was nice. Check-in was effortless as well. Marco was a great host. Would definitely recommend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice, clean B&B. The host prepares a typical Italian breakfast for you if you decide to go upstairs for it. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby that are inexpensive and offer better meals than what you'd get near the Rialto or San Marco.
- Don (10/5): - Great location, great staff, amazing croissants and the rooms a clean and well taken care of.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Property was in good location, you could walk within 15 min to all main attractions. Air conditioner had a small leak while on, property owned was very attentive, tried to fix problem, at the end he did not charge us city tac and gave us €20 discount as well.
- Ashley (10/5): Great value for the money. - My family of two adults and two teens enjoyed our stay. The bed arrangements were perfect for us. Everything was clean. The furniture was outdated, but easy to overlook. The host served a very good breakfast for us that included meat, cheese, croissants, juice and coffee. The Wifi was not useable in our room. Also, we enjoyed being away from the crazy area of St. Marks square with tourist traps. There were so many great shops, restaurants and bars within the area. Overall it was a great value for the money. I would stay here again if I have the opportunity to travel to Venice.
- Mary Ellen (8/5): Quiet entry into the Venice experience - I did not do the proper homework before my arrival, so I didn’t realize that this was a b&b in a quiet neighborhood a fair piece from the train station. Once I got that sorted out, I was pleased with the room, which was simple and homey, clean and functional. Marco, the owner, provided personal, but professional service. The breakfast was simple and tasty. Overall, Al Campaniel allowed me to ease into Venice before joining my group tour and the crowds of tourists.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Marco was a lovely host. Instructions for checking in was clear and simple, location was convenient, breakfast was very good. He even helped us in finding a particular antique store which was not very easy to find, more than help than we expected. Will recommend to others and consider staying again should I return to Venice.
- josh (10/5): Wonderful stay! - Marco is very nice and helped us out when our luggage was lost at an air port. He stayed there and put our luggage in our room so we could explore the city. The beds were comfortable too and there was one American tv station for us to watch after a long day of walking around the city. If we ever go back to Venice we would stay here again!
- David (10/5): Good place - Everything ok.
- sandra (2/5): - We were given the incorrect address. We were at sea and did not have internet. Notified them that we were only available via text messages. Took three hours and a few phone calls to get the correct information. No representatives would come meet us. Breakfast was minimal when requested gluten free. Will not recommend
- Alexander (10/5): Heart of Venice - Great part of town that was nice and quiet but not far from the main sites. The room was nice and breakfast was very good as well. The manager/owner was very kind as well
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Host was excellent and very responsive. He was very willing to help in any way.
- Kirsty (10/5): A lovely stay. - I travelled with my mom and we stayed here for 5 days. Marco was lovely and pleasant and truly a great host. Breakfast in the morning was lovely and traditional. Coffee was amazing.
The building is old just like venice, making it the perfect place to stay. Easy access by water and on foot. Would definitely stay here again.
Thank you Marco
Love the Roe's.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Marco was such a wonderful host at this cute air BnB! Communication beforehand was excellent and we found the place easily. Breakfast was delicious, and the room was clean and cozy. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay!
- Rodrigo (10/5): - Amazing service
- Teemu (8/5): Nice little hotel in great location - Nice little place, excellent location to discover Venice. Breakfast was average with very limited choice and not so good orange juice. However, overall this hotel was very good choice and I would not hesitate to stay here again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - it's a great place for a short stay. Host was really kind and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location very close to San Toma vaporetto stop. Supermarket across the road.
Room was lovely. We had a very relaxing stay. Marco is a great host who was very easy to speak with. Enjoyed the breakfast every morning. Lovely choices and great service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location was excellent. Our room was very nice. Breakfast was a little disappointing. The proprietor was very nice, although we didn't see much of him. This was our first experience in a bed and breakfast.
- JOANNA (10/5): Wonderfull weekend in Venice - Excellent location, walking distance from Rialto or Academia bridge. Very clean room/bath. Very friendly host who provided us with exquisite restaurant recommendations . Plus texted with detailed directions to the hotel. Highly recommended
- mehdi (6/5): - It was cold room, extra bed with low comfortably, not exactly the same photo at hotel.com and with a lot of mosquito during the night, breakfast was not selff service it was served by hotel manager and everyone needed to wait he bring the bread, juice or tea !
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable.
- M (8/5): - The hotel is a lovely, centrally located hotel directly opposite a supermarket and an easy 10 minute stroll to Rialto bridge. It is also less than 50m from the valparesso/ferry stop.
This was my second stay here, a couple years apart, and I was more than comfortable and satisfied. The only issue I had (which was rectified quickly) was really weak water pressure in the shower (previous reviews mentioned this also), when I mentioned it to the gentleman who runs the hotel (at my suggestion) I was given access to a much better shower, as needed, for the 3 nights I stayed there, which was great. It was the middle of winter and a good shower was a must to thaw out at the end of the day.
Would recommend this hotel no problem.
- Karen (10/5): - Quick & easy walk from the Piazzale Roma bus station, nice location in quiet road, no noise at night but easy to get to everything. We didn’t have breakfast as we wanted to go out & find somewhere a bit later on. Restaurants near the b&b were good value & fantastic menus, pizzas & jug of wine for 2 €30. We had a cocktail at the Gritti Palace hotel in the morn after front for €20 each! A bit of flooding in St Marks Sq but managed to walk around mostly or there were platforms to walk on over the flooded areas.would highly recommend.
- Chris (8/5): Perfect location and base to explore - Marco was a lovely host. Room was great apart from water pressure for shower. But guess this might be all over Venice. Location was fantastic. Would reccomend.
- Rahul (10/5): - It was a cosy place (all of Venice is) felt like home when arrived there, the host was very friendly and helpful. He had given us clear instructions to the property. Recommended to stay!
- Hector (10/5): - Has a very good location. The service was great, room was very clean and secure. Will recommend.
- Natalie M (10/5): The B&B to go if you are in Venice - Wanted a place where we could go in and out as if we were home. This place is excellent. Close to the water and shuttle. Breakfast was good and consistent enough so we could go visit Venice in no time.
- Sheena (8/5): Two day visit to Venice - Only problem was no elevator and we were up two flights of stairs with heavy luggage. Wifi not the best in our room. Breakfast area was right outside our room, which was not an issue to us as up early, however if one was a late riser might be noisy. Fresh croissants daily, and reasonable continental breakfast, coffee very nice. Owner/Manager very friendly.
- Victoria (10/5): Great stay - Lovely room in the perfect location. Nice breakfast and good service. Thank you!
- Alfonso (8/5): - The bed and breakfast is located just 15 minutes from the trainstation and St. Marks Square. Room is small but very cozy. No TV but wifi was solid. Shower could use more pressure, but it was fine. Bed is eoomy but the pillows are way too thin. Floors are noisy, but expected. Free breakfast of coffee and croissants or cereal from 8a to 10am. Breakfast area was right outside our room, so it was a little annoying but not horrible. Basically a big house with rooms being rented out. All in all it was a great stay. Owner is so nice and helpful. Venice is beautiful.
- Peter (8/5): - Excellent location, very quiet and good value for price. Supermarket opposite and Vaporetto round the corner. Many stairs and breakfast room at top of building.Allow one hour for served breakfast. Marco, the owner is an extremely helpful English gentleman.
- Alexandra (10/5): Great location - First time in Venice and I went with this property because of the good reviews.
We had the top floor room with a new bathroom. The location itself is perfect. Marco is helpful in giving you directions if you need them.
The bed was extremely comfortable.
Breakfast was directly opposite our room which was great. Best croissants ever tasted! Marco is polite and always asks what you would like to eat.
- Alex (8/5): - Good deal and location. Basic but nice and accommodating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location and value - Great hotel close to a waterbus station. Room is quiet and away from the noise. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
- Calvin (10/5): - Lovely B&B. Friendly host. Close to San Tomas vaporetto. Spacious apartment with kitchenette. Nice breakfast.
- Kerry (4/5): Unfortunate experience - Upon arrival we were told that we had to switch rooms for the second night even though we had booked seven months in advance. Breakfast was served at 8:15 which did not work with our schedule. No alternative earlier was offered nor any compensation for not taking breakfast. The owner was around during the day and evening. Beds were comfortable. The air conditioner worked well in the first room but not the second. Nice location
- Leonard (6/5): - The location was difficult to find, and this was made clear in the instructions. The easiest way to explain locating the property is to take the water bus from the train station to Ferry Terminal S. Toma. From the S. Toma stop walk straight up Calle Traghetto Vecchio and turn left at the first street. Al Campaniel is the 4th or 5th door on the left. It has a small steel sign.
The property is a "get what you pay for" type experience. It was not very expensive and as a result it was not very great. However, it was clean, no bed bugs, the A/C worked well, and it seemed to be quite secure. The manager was a bit quirky, but he was respectful.
We chose to not utilize the included breakfast and just indulge in the local pastry shops and restaurants.
It was quiet and had minimal street noise.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Value and location are both incredible. Marco makes you feel at home and is very easy to communicate with. Was extremely helpful providing directions. The room is very comfortable and spacious. Would definitely stay here again if ever back in Venice.
- Michele (10/5): Good location not too far a walk from main areas - Nice place, seemed quite central to everywhere we wanted and needed to go. Has a good store where we could get bottled water and supplies cheap so that was awesome!
Breakfast was yummy
- Dennis (10/5): Nice, affordable stay in the heart of Venice - The room was well kept, comfortable, and very clean. The owner was very nice and seemed genuinely concerned about ensuring that all his guests' needs were met. The property's location was convenient to everything I wanted to see and do in Venice.
- Alexia (8/5): Lovely stay - We had a good sized room. Quiet area. Marco was very accommodating. The only thing is that we did not have any tv. Also its not good for people who need a lift.
- Evan (10/5): Cozy Venezia - Very cozy, and Marco's service was excellent. He prepared breakfast for all guests and very friendly.
- AKS (8/5): Nice B&B - Nice Hotel, spacius room, good location. Only negative was breakfast.
- Charie (10/5): - Location was 15 minutes walk to the train station if your sense of direction in Venice especially is good.
The proximity to a grocery store was great. It was just adjacent to the hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel was clean and Marco was very friendly and helpful in terms of organising transport to the airport at a very odd time. Breakfast was served by Marco himself. Hotel room and bathroom was very clean and felt comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Air conditioner was very good. Breakfast was meager. Floors creaky. Footsteps can be heard from room above...as well as talking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect hotel for beautiful Venice - Let's get one thing out of the way: Al Campaniel is NOT a luxury hotel. There are (extremely expensive) luxury hotels in Venice, and this is not one of them. It's somewhat difficult to find (they'll send you a helpful email, but the best thing is to find the nearby CRAI grocery store beforehand on Google Maps, then go down two doors), the building is not new, and things tend to be somewhat creaky / loud. You don't have luxury amenities like oversized tubs, 1000 thread count sheets, etc.
But this is what makes this place perfect for Venice. Venice is a city whose mere existence defies logic; the mere fact that these historic buildings are still standing amid meandering canals is amazing. And Al Campaniel is the perfect hotel for this city. It's right in the middle of the city, but still in a somewhat small alleyway (so tourist noise isn't as bad as in, say, a huge square). The rooms are somewhat dated, but very colorful and welcoming, and my room had huge windows that opened right into the alley. The main proprietor, Marco, is extremely friendly, welcoming, and sweet, and will gladly give you tips on your visit to Venice (and will make amazing food / coffee for you in the morning).
So Al Campaniel is definitely not a luxury hotel. But it's the perfect accommodation for Venice, a city that is truly magical.
- Tracy (4/5): - This property was very fair. We know Venice is expensive. However, you could find a better value elsewhere. The rooms were very outdated and not as clean as I would have liked. We typically stay at 3-4 star hotels. Therefore, my expectations are as such. This property did not meet my expectations.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent location. Close to water bus. Spacious room and excellent breakfast. Would definitely stay again when in Venice.
- Gurung (10/5): - Nicely located in the centre of venice with a supermarket within 15 metres and public ferry stop within 50 metres and a very helpfull staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location and close to taxi ferry restaurants and shopping.
- Brenda (10/5): Highly recommend Al Campaniel - Wonderful time and great place. Really close to water taxi but walkable to everything. Next to a convenience store, and steps from small local restaurants. Couldn't think of a better location if you want to be in a quiet location but close to everything.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very nice B+B - This place was extremely clean and relatively easy to find. Breakfast was great and the rooms were tidy when we arrived. Staff were extremely helpful with our late check-in and early check-out. Great place!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice Homestay - Clean room and bathroom. Though the bathroom is not attached with our room, the bathroom is exclusive for us.
We are glad with basic breakfast provided.
A mini mart just in front of the house and very near to restaurants.
- elizabeth (10/5): Great service - Our host at this bed and breakfast was beyond accommodating.
The location was great with easy access to all attractions because the water bus was near by.
- Tyler (10/5): Fantastic bed and breakfast style hotel! - Marco was incredibly accommodating and treated us very well during our stay! Highly recommend this hotel as the location is perfect!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful location. Easy walk to tourist spots. Across from a little mart which was convenient. Marco was a great host and served a lovely breakfast in the morning. Easy check in and easy check out. We weren't leaving until later in the day so he let us store our luggage. Would recommend and stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent hotel. They will send you directions to follow from the water taxi, USE THEM. We tried to find out way walking and it was very confusing. Even if you dont want to take the water taxi from the airport, take it from one of the ports to the San Toma exit like the directions tell you to.
- Venus (10/5): Great experience - Super nice staff. Clean environment. Convenient location. The breakfast was delicious!
