Joint4853 (10/5): We've already told them that we'll be back!! - We chose this as it was within walking distance of the Teatre degli Arcimboldi. The street entrance was a little disconcerting with only the sunflower logo on a metal, industrial door. However, once inside the difference is amazing. There's a garden area with loads of tress and seating for milder times of year. There is a bar in the same area that breakfast is served. In a residential area we found it lovely and quiet for sleeping and the room was comfortable. The owners - brothers - are absolutely great, welcoming and hospitable. We've already told them that we'll be back!!

Das Frühstück war sehr lecker und alles sehr frisch, der italienische Kaffee war toll. Das Personal bzw. die Inhaber waren äußerst nett, man hat sich gleich sehr wohl und persönlich willkommen gefühlt. Dieses Hotel wird meine Adresse sein, wenn ich nochmal nach Mailand komme. Sehr angenehme Entfernung zu Fuß zur Universität Biccoca.
Estelindis (10/5): Wonderful hosts, comfy and charming hotel - Il Girasole is perfect. The beds are comfortable. The breakfast is delicious. The garden courtyard is beautiful. The decor is charming. But most of all, the hosts are so friendly and kind! Even though we only stayed a short time, they made us feel like family. I can't put it into words: you must visit for yourself. I will definitely stay here again if I return to Milan.
Nigel (8/5): Good value for Milan - The hotel/guesthouse is easily reached from the centre of Milan by metro followed by a short walk (past a nice bakery). Il Girasole looks unconventional, being a converted factory building. A nice courtyard is hidden behind a metal entrance door. Matteo and his brother are extremely nice hosts, who can provide enthusiastic advice on sightseeing in Milan. Our room was one of the two behind the courtyard which, unfortunately, the WiFi signal from the main building didn't reach - but was fine if you sat outside near reception/breakfast room. Room was clean and comfortable and spacious enough for chairs and a table. Bed was too firm for me (not my wife) so just luck of the draw. No tea/coffee making facilities per the property description, but also no glass for a drink of water (complimentary bottle of water for the first night). Nice breakfast: tea or coffee, a glass of fruit juice, a croissant and a salami and/or cheese roll.

Verified traveler (8/5): - This is a really nice place, run by two brothers who are charming, kind and filled with good energy. The place is not easy to find if you are using public transport: look for the image of a sunflower on the building, it does make it easier to spot. Also you may wish to ask for rooms facing the inner courtyard and not the street; not because of noise (the streets are quiet), but because the building across the street keeps its light on at night, and that can be disturbing for sleep. The area is very nice and they were kind enough to direct me to the nearby canal, ideal for jogging.

F2808UDjessicar (10/5): A hidden Gem in Milan, friendly, quaint stay. - Il Girasole is a friendly family run B&B. As soon as we arrived Matteo sat us upon arrival to offer us drinks and snacks. His attention to us was first class, a service with a personal touch. Matteo gave us a map and highlighted all that was worth checking out on our brief visit. Breakfast was yummy with these delicious croissants. Nicola and Matteo are great hosts and are attentive to client’s needs. The hotel was clean and well equipped. The location close to the metro so very convenient. It certainly lived up to the reviews. The room was great and nicely furnished. My friend said that she would go back to Milan just to stay here lol.

PatrickL734 (10/5): If you want the warmest of Italian welcomes, Il Girasole is the place. - A budget friendly hotel just outside the main city centre. A couple of minutes walk will have you at the metro which is easy to get around on. This family run hotel is clean warm and very relaxing, Matteo is such a fantastic host and does Italy proud in what he does. I was on a visit to Milan for a Radiohead concert with my partner and this hotel provided us with the perfect base for the weekend in Milan, Matteo gave a map and basically highlighted all that was worth checking out on our brief visit, It worked out perfect. We've promised to come back to have a more comprehensive tour of the city and we already know where we are gonna stay.
107Rutland (8/5): Great Personal Service! - This is definitely a unique, quaint little hotel, situated in a high rise residential neighborhood in the northern part of Milan, One could easily bypass the rust-covered facade on the street with very little to identify that a hotel is located there, save for the sunflower motif on the wall (Il Girasole is Italian for the Sunflower). The hotel is a family-run enterprise, with the brothers Nicola and Matteo doing most of the work. It seems that the hotel is a converted bicycle factory, and there are pictures on the wall showing the very impressive conversion to a hotel over the past 20 years or so. Matteo set me down at arrival and ran me though the entire setting of Milan. Very helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet, albeit a bit cramped for a twin bed setup. The breakfast was adequate, although not spectacular. While I did not take advantage of the nearby metro, I am told that it is only 20 minutes to downtown. A daily metro ticket costs about 4.5 Euro. Restaurant options in the neighborhood are a bit limited, with sometimes unpredictable hours (especially on Sunday). I would think the best food strategy would be to eat downtown for lunch and dinner, or perhaps take advantage of one of the numerous "happy hour" places downtown, which I am told have very substantial offerings for a reasonable price. I think the best thing about the hotel is the personal service that Matteo and Nicola render. It was very helpful to me, being a first time visitor to Milan. I'd definitely consider staying here again.
SimonF64 (8/5): Quaint, different and convenient location - This small boutique hotel has many attributes including the welcoming owner, just 3 min walk from the underground (then 20 mins to Cathedral), a great triple room which has a separate alcove for our teenager and a generally comfortable/clean room. It was a little difficult to find and if driving I would recommend booking a parking place (there are only about 4) as otherwise you are looking for on street parking. The only other small concern which means Il Girasole fell short of excellent was the slightly delayed, but very nice breakfast which was a little frustrating as we were heading south on a busy Saturday.
anotherfrankopinion (10/5): Such a friendly and hospitable place to stay when visiting Milan- well done Matteo! - We were Mum & Dad and daughter visiting Milan for the first time. Opted for 3 night at Il Girasole on the way back from the lakes. Il Girasole is a small and friendly family run B&B/small hotel. One of the owners is Matteo, who is very friendly and helpful - gave us great advice on what to see and where to go. Its a safe and secure little hotel, tucked away with its own courtyard in a residential part of Milan. With the personal, service It was so much better than the budget hotel chains around. Another plus point is the proximity to the subway. Ticket purchase is easy - and a 4.5 euro ticket does you all day. Milan has some amazing sights - a bit grubby in some areas - the kids seem to spray can anything which doesn't move. Felt safe enough though and as I've said, nice to get back to a friendly family run hotel in the evening.

ktdipaula (8/5): Comfortable room, great staff - I knew when I booked this that it was a little out of town. I got nervous when the taxi driver said, “Wow, you are really far out of town.” But my worry was for nothing. The city center was very easily accessible (and about 10 min) by the subway which was a short walk away. The staff was super friendly, very helpful and made an extra effort to make our 10th anniversary special. The outdoor area was lovely and made for an enjoyable evening outside enjoying some vino. The room was very spacious, clean & comfortable. We only stayed one night in Milan but ended up liking it very much. When we return, we will probably stay at Il Girasole again.
597midgeg (10/5): Our Milan home away from home! - One couldn't ask for a better place to stay in Milan. It is located in a real - not touristy - neighborhood within minutes of a Metro stop. That means in ten minutes you can be in the heart of Milan and return to a quiet neighborhood. In the evening stroll to a neighborhood Restauarant or ask your hosts advice on where to go. Matteo and Nicola made us feel like family! The hotel is clean, nicely appointed and well run. I loved sitting in the little garden and contemplating how fortunate we were to find Il Girasole.
RamseyCampbell (10/5): A delightful stay - Bouquet Room - very comfortable and spacious. And as many reviews have said, our hosts couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Though it's somewhat away from the centre of Milan, there's a Metro station two minutes' walk away, and the trains are very frequent and cheap. The hotel has an arrangement with Ristorante Morganti Enoteca - there's a free pickup and return transfer - and that's well worth a visit (more than one in our case).

541stanislava (10/5): Wonderfull homelike hotel in quite place - I had a business trip with my colleagues and we stayed in this small nice hotel managed by two brothers. Thanks to this people the ambiance is super homish. Starting from the entrance door i felt myself very comfortable. The rooms are clean and quite. The restaurant downstairs has interesting decorations. Looking at all those small nice things I realize that hosts are really enjoying managing this hotel. In support of my thoughts one of brothers said that it's their home so they try to do their best. I also got great advises on where to go/to eat/to by special Italian products. I really enjoyed my staying felt spent time more like vacation rather than business. I will always remember evenings on lovely veranda with Aperol Spritz. Thanks a lot and keep on going same way!

Verified traveler (8/5): Interesting location and building - I stayed at this hotel more than a year ago, so my memories are not too clear. I do recall that the bathroom was clean and very nice. There were three of us, and we had enough room to move around and set out our bags, etc. The dining room/reception area is loaded with materials about the city. The hosts were very helpful and answered all our questions. The location was a little bit "out of the way", but as it is only about 7 minutes from the Metro station, not a big problem.

Cristina (8/5): Quiet hotel in Milan - A small and beautiful hotel close to the metro in a quiet neighborhood. Hotel staff are very welcoming and helpful. We were given a good explanation of Milan and were best to eat and shop along places to visit within our stay. Large rooms. Good wifi and parking is available inside the hotel at a cost which is highly recommended since the parking spaces in the vicinity are all blue parking spaces (need to pay for the time parked). Breakfast selection is moderate but everything especially the bread, pastries and cakes are all freshly baked in the morning... what a nice smell to wake up to.

Kirt (8/5): Incredibly helpful owners and nice room - My husband and I stayed at Il Girasole for one night. We were able to find the hotel pretty easily but it took some effort to get in to check in. I didn't realize that we were supposed to call ahead and tell the owners when we would be checking in. When we did actually check in, Niccoli was very helpful. He went through where we should go, how we should get there, explained the metro to us, showed us where the shopping was and even explained where the locals go to eat. He also told us about apperitivo, which we took part in and loved. My only compliant is that there was no AC (was turned off on October 15) and we could hear everything in the rooms next door. The owners' hospitality more than made up for these complaints, but we didn't sleep all that much. Also, I should mention that Niccoli and Mateo went out of their way to help my husband (who I gave grief to after he did nothing for my birthday 6 days prior) to get a cake. They even threw in a bottle of Prosecco! I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying Milan.
Stan (10/5): Excellent Hotel Near Metro Red Line - Our primary purpose was to find a hotel in Milano with easy access to the Metro so we could get to Malpensa Airport quickly the next morning. Il Girosole fit the bill perfectly since we did not have to change metro lines to get to Cadorna train station for the Malpensa Express. There are plenty of good restaurants near the red line within a few stops of Il Girasole, and the hosts provided directions to some recommendations. The hosts also let us check in early, although all we wanted to do was check our bags. That was a pleasant surprise. The room has everything you could need including a small but very functional kitchen. Be aware that the exterior view shown on the web site is the view from the atrium, NOT the street view. The color of the building is correct, but you will need to look for the street number on the exterior. We did not sample the breakfast since we needed to get to the airport early.
Elaine Leone (10/5): A wonderful place to stay - Il Girasole is a hidden gem. The hotel itself is charming with wonderful touches, the service is top notch and Matteo and Nicola are very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is footsteps from a Metro stop which can get you to the Milan Malpensa airport, Milan Centrale train station and many other parts of Milan. If II'm ever back in Milan, I will be staying there again.

Jeanine (8/5): 2 women, first time in Milan - The brothers who own and manage the hotel, Matteo and Nicola, are the kindest, most professional, accomodating management team imaginable. Great coffee made to order for breakfast. A shelf in the shower to hold soap, shampoo, etc. would be great. Some type of cereal (muslei) for breakfast would have been nice. Although the location is far from the sights we wanted to visit, public transportation (metro & train) are close by and easy to navigate for first time visitors to Milan and Italy. Nicola helped us to navigate the metro and train to Lake Como even checking the weather for that day.
Ken (10/5): Unique! - Matteo, the proprietor, overflows with energy and helpfulness and good humour. Nothing is too much trouble. The hotel.is a little way out, but there's a nearby tube station and the all day tickets (which Matteo, thank goodness, sells) are very good value. The car is nice and safe in his courtyard. Breakfast is enjoyable, with smiley coffee, quirky radiogram, sunflower objets, and a weird collection of fish (his brother's)! Room clean, comfortable, quiet. Home from home really.
James (10/5): Great place for the one who do not care "stars" - The owner is quite talktive! I like to chat with him and get a lot of fun. The parking is easy, Metro is nearby. There is a supermarket 1 block away. Room is big and neat with a kitchen. Great place! Yeah! The building has rebuilt, so the condition is just fine!

Andy R (10/5): Exemplary Service - First and foremost STAY HERE. I have never had a hotel email me personally before my stay to check on how I want the bedrooms arranged! The service just got better when we arrived. Matteo was the very best host and incredibly helpful and friendly - it was like staying with friends!! The hotel itself is in a residential area and you could easily miss it, but it is only 200m from the Metro and 15 minutes to Duomo so no problem there. The hotel is quirky but very nice - if you want 5* luxury this won't be right but if you want a really friendly place to stay in Milan it gets it's own 5 stars!

Evelyn (8/5): Il Girasole - very nice hotel and staff - We stayed only overnight, on route to the Malpensa alrport. A bit of a schlep from the main train route to the airport, but once we found the hotel it was very nice. Very helpful and friendly staff sent us to a nice neighborhood pizzaria. Room was clean and adequate for our overnight needs. Decor was upbeat. They accommodated us with an early breakfast.
