- LMC95 (10/5): Fantastic location, amazing staff. - Wow, what a find, sadly just as its about to close for renovations. But I think I'll be visiting again as soon as it reopens! Amazing location, walkable to everywhere. Great little single room which might have been small but had everything I needed. Sure, its an older place but this is Venice, everything is old. Traveled solo and prefer to pay a smaller price for smaller room. Really it is Ambra who made the place, such a friendly person, genuinely lovely. Had a great chat with her about living in Venice, so interesting. She was great with information, recommendations, directions etc. Monica who did the rooms was great too, and the place was spotless. Also a nice gentleman on duty in the evenings. I'm sure it will be great after the renovation too, I look forward to visiting again!
- Julejam (10/5): Great find and the greatest hostess, Ambra - We loved the location and Ambra was the best!!! She helped us with figuring out the trains, and what would be the easiest for my husband and I who were just beginning month long Italian vacation. She shared so many interesting facts about Venice since she was born and raised there. We loved the outside patio, where we had a bottle of wine. Thank you for wonderful hospitality Ambra and getting to know you made out trip to Venice memorable!! 🇮🇹
- Moon Tong (10/5): - A little bit noise due to the restaurant downstairs. Service is good & very helpful.
- David (10/5): Great Place to Stay - This was an excellent very clean and function exactly what we were looking for and would definitely return.
Ambra was so pleasant and nothing was an bother she is very informative and goes out of her way to help - what else do you want 👍👍
- marilyn19662014 (10/5): Return visit did NOT disapoint! - The absolute BEST thing about this hotel is Ambra, at the front desk. She is so kind and welcoming, it was like visiting long-lost family. She is always smiling, and has helpful tips about where to visit or eat. I had to catch a 6 AM flight and she made sure to give me exact directions on how to navigate the night vaporetto @ 4 AM and assure me it was safe to be out at that time - for someone travelling alone this was a great help. I actually booked my European trip around what dates were available to stay here!!!
This hotel is not fancy - the rooms are very clean, shower works well and the outdoor balcony is a bonus. The other great thing about this hotel is the location - very close to the Rialto bridge making it easy to find when wandering in Venice; because you WILL get lost ( over & over LOL)
- Paul (10/5): Unmatchable value in central Venice - You have to judge hotels on value for money. Hotel San Salvador is a quirky hotel down a narrow Venetian street, up a narrow staircase and has odd shaped rooms with small en-suites decorated in very Venetian style. We've never seen towels made out of tea towel material before, but they do the job. What you get here is a comfortable bed, a decent shower, a nice small balcony from which you can watch a boat or two drift past and, most of all,a really friendly, warm welcome with lots of advice on how to best enjoy this incredible city. You also get an almost unmatchable location, literally 2 minutes walk from Rialto Bridge. There is a huge number of cafes, restaurants and bars on the doorstep and within a few minutes walk. You can walk to Piazza San Marco in 5 minutes or so. All of this comes at a price that you won't find anywhere else outside of the peripheral, secondary areas of the city. Why look elsewhere? Fantastic value and very nice owners.
- joew542 (10/5): Just loved the place! - We selected the San Salvador for our recent trip to Venice based on the reviews we found here at Tripadvisor, and anyone who rated the hotel at less than five stars is understating what a great place and great value this is. We were immediately charmed by Ambra on arrival - you won't find a more engaging or helpful person on this planet. And yes, the rooms are small - we lived out of our suitcases for three days - but they're still very comfortable and clean. We were happy to find that we had a mini-fridge, and the A/C was more than up to keeping the room comfortable. You can't beat the location and you can't beat the price. If you're a no-frills traveler with a true appreciation for value, you want to be here.
- annl878 (10/5): excellent location, amazing hosts/staff. - the hotel is literally few minutes walking distance to a lot of important landmarks.less than 5 minutes walk to Rialto bridge. many choices of restaurants in the area,in fact the hotel has list of recommended osterias and bakeries. the boat station to go to the train station Sta Lucia Venezia and Marco polo airport is by Rialto bridge. one of the most convenient accommodations we ever had. and of course,Flavio and Roberto were awesome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent staff!
- Yaakov (10/5): - Ambra and Roberto were absolutely amazing, the hotel is in a great location and accommodates very well
- Sam (10/5): - Rooms had excellent shower facilities and the air conditioning was a relief! Due to the location being so central (close to Rialto) we were able to quickly pop back to freshen up before heading out in the evening. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful, and have good tips!
The rooms are on the smaller side, but this was not a problem..they were cleaned and freshened everyday, beds made, towels changed and bins emptied. Would 100% return here if we chose to visit Venice again. Thank you for our lovely stay.
- Jo Ann (10/5): - We loved our stay. The room was charming. Ambra was so nice. She gave us great suggestions on places to see and food to try. We had a flickering light in the bathroom, and as soon as we told Ambra
about it, she changed the bulb. Ambra needs a raise!!! The hotel is very close to the Rialto Bridge. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely time - I stayed here for my first ever solo trip! They were super kind and accommodating. The rooms are small but have everything you need. Very nice folks in a super convenient location!
- Francisco (10/5): - The workers were very friendly and very helpful.
- AussieZydTraveller (10/5): Made my stay in Venice even more special - I had read great reviews about Hotel San Salvador for more affordable accommodation option in expensive Venice. From the time I walked in, to the time I left, I was blown away by the warm welcome I received from Ambra. Her infectious energy, smile and passion for Venice was apparent from the moment I stepped into the hotel. As a solo traveller I instantly felt safe and secure. She also gave me lots of tips on navigating the island. The rooms are basic but comfortable and very clean. I wouldn’t swap this experience for a 5 star hotel because there you don’t get that warm homely experience. I cannot thank Ambra enough for the genuine care she shows her guests. Thank you!
- dimpledjules (8/5): A real gem! - This place is a real gem at a bargain. I first stayed here solo in the hotel annex, in September 2016. I returned to Venice, this time with my partner in March 2022 - I did not hesitate booking Hotel San Salvador again. Staff are very warm & welcoming, always making guests feel at home. The accommodation offering is basic but very clean and at a very reasonable cost for
Sestiere San Marco. What you see advertised is exactly what you get.
This time round we'd booked a double room with an ensuite bathroom. The bathroom was tiny but we didn't mind it as we were only staying for 2 nights. Based on my own positive experience, I highly recommend Hotel San Salvador.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent location, clean, no-frills room - The room was very clean and well kept up. Ambra and her staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and provided excellent service and tips about the best places to eat and how to maximize our time spent in Venice. It wasn't the fanciest room, but the price was unbeatable for the location, which was about as good of a spot as you could be in.
- Caroline (10/5): One of the best experiences for a hotel... - The best experience I have ever had in Venezia / Venice. Ambra, who runs the hotel is so helpful with everything and extremely friendly. She first gave me directions to the hotel and I never got lost. Gave me pointers where to go and those places where amazing. Gave food places, one of the best breakfast & pizza, I have ever had... The hotel is between two streets and very quiet and safe. This is a must place to go...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I will recommend this hotel to everyone who doesn't care about the size of the room and not looking for luxury and want to enjoy Venice. The location and Front desk lady is amazing. Highly recommendable, the rooms and bathroom are very small but that was expected.
- 657andreij (10/5): Love the Hotel San Salvador!!! - Well we blinked and we missed it twice. We were using the GOOGLE maps and we walked by it twince. First it is in a ally of the main walway. At first you think it not there there it is. WE loved it. we said fir 3 nights and had a lovey time. We are thinking of making it a anual trip from Chicago, IL. The bed was cummfy, the waster presure was good there was a safe in the room as well. Overall I cant wait to go back. don't bring big bags as the hallways are small. We came in with a backpck and a small carry on.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location is phenomenal. Ambra is super helpful with anything you need. Rooms are clean and would certainly stay here next time in Venice. The value is great, don’t expect a 5 star hotel. You are in Venice however, get the real feel of the city. Don’t hesitate to stay here!
- SoloJack1994 (10/5): Perfect little hotel with Excellent Location - Just a short walk from the Rialto Bridge, this tucked away hotel is the perfect spot for a short stay in Venice for any solo traveller or couple. Special mention for Ambra, who was nothing but lovely and accomodating when I arrived and for the duration of my stay. She provided excellent tips for seeing the city including best times to visit certain areas before they became crowded. I would definitely stay here again.
- TravelingSolo (8/5): - The property was about 20 min walk from train station but felt like 10-15 cause of the views along the way, you could also take a boat from train station and drop off close to hotel, and walk about 5 min. The staff is great and very helpful. If your looking for good location, nice and clean room, something simple, but meets all your needs, this place is perfect!
- Jonathas (10/5): - Staff very friendly, in special to Ambra that helped us out with a travel makeup case that my wife forgot in our room. She did pack the case very carefully and we receive the package in the US a week later safe and sound. Thank you for helping us out with this matter.
- TJB_Rodney_Stoke (8/5): Good central location - Booked a short break to Venice with my wife and booked a room with private bathroom at the Hotel San Salvador. It is in a great location, very close to the Rialto Bridge which was convenient for our water taxi transfer from the airport and return transport by water bus and close to the Piazza San Marco.
The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The rooms clean with all you need for a couple of nights. Our room was a little noisy late in the evening with people walking by but we then figured out how to close the shutters which eliminated most of this!
A great location for a couple of nights in Venice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic position, right in the centre of Venice. Wonderful staff who offer great recommendations for eating locally.
- Olga (10/5): Romantic Anniversary trip - Excellent little hotel with great service, very conveniently located steps from
Rialto Bridge
- Wendy (8/5): - Fabulous!
Well
- Andrew (10/5): Perfect Hotel for Venice. - Such a wonderful place! Right near the Rialto Bridge. Centrally located and just a quick walk to San Marco Square. The room is small but comfortable. Perfect for Venice as you want to be out and about. The Innkeeper was incredibly nice. I believe her name is Ambra. So helpful. So pleasant. I will stay there again when I go back. Make sure you save directions when they email you. Tough to find. Located down a small alley way next to the (ugh) Disney Store. Ring the bell, up one flight of stairs. No real sign except for the one at the beginning of the alley.
- pshivu (10/5): Our 2 night stay 26-28 sep2019 - Absolutely 👍 delightful experience. 1. Best central location. Next to Rialto bridge less than 5 minutes away 2. Marco square 10 minutes away. 3. Best of eateries around especially don't miss out Farini for spritz aperol drink and best pizzas in town. The rooms were clean in the annex block. Ask for annex if you are couple we had private room and toilet and very quite place there was no noise. Please please meet and ask Ms amra she is super host who will welcome you and chat like a lost friend 😀 she is so adorable
- susan (10/5): - Very nice little hotel.
Great location.
Helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, great staff, older hotel but certainly priced right
- Kelly (10/5): - These were the nicest people ever! Very helpful and courteous. I highly recommend this quaint little spot.
- ErikaH1802 (10/5): Excellent place to stay in the heart of Venice - Stayed overnight in Venice after visiting friends in a nearby city, so all I needed was a reasonably priced hotel with central location. Not only did I find that but also a very comfortable and clean room with a good bed, air conditioner, closet, tv and an immaculate bathroom with a shower (private). The room was small but it was perfectly decorated in old Venetian style and it had a lot of character. The hotel was easy to find thanks to good instructions sent to me via email. The staff was very friendly and informative, and I also received some good tips for vegan/vegetarian restaurants should you be in need of those. Will definitely return here should I ever need to stay overnight in Venice again!
- Sarah (10/5): Look no further for a great value stay! - Great value for money, location, room, cute tiny terrace, reception staff, air conditioning. Honestly couldn’t fault it for the price! Loved it and would certainly consider staying there again if ever in Venice. Don’t think it’s write-up does it justice!
- Tom_AKZ (10/5): Wonderful hotel in a great location! - My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in May. We stayed in the Annex Independent Flat, which is just around the corner from the main hotel. After checking in at the main hotel Flavio brought us over to the Annex and suggested a wonderful restaurant on the way. The location is extremely close to the Rialto Bridge and perfect for walking anywhere in Venice (we always felt safe, even on late night walks). A highlight of our stay was meeting and talking with Ambra on the last day of our visit. She made us feel extremely welcome (even though it was our last day) and confirmed our thoughts that we will definitely stay at the Hotel San Salvador when we come back to Venice!
- Dave (10/5): Great Location! - I spent 3 nights at Hotel San Salvador. The location was perfect, very close to the Rialto Bridge and Rialto Vaporetto stops. Piazza San Marco was less than a 10 minute walk too. The room was decent, the bed was my least favorite part, the mattress was not the most comfortable I slept on in Europe, but not the least either. I was concerned about noise from the restaurant below the room, but that ended up not being a problem. The staff was great! The desk is manned 24/7 and everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. I was very glad I booked my Venice stay at Hotel San Salvador!!
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Very helpful, friendly staff, clean, convenient. Suggestions for local food delicious
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Locate just off Rialto bridge makes it a easy ferry ride from the train station. San Marco sq is a few min walk away. Plenty of places to eat. Does get crowded during the day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, very friendly staff with great knowledge and such enthusiasm for Venice. They told us of local places to get breakfasts and the best place for gondola rides and generally what not to miss.
- Jangoo (10/5): - Charming little hotel in the busy San Marco area, just off Rialto Bridge. Small but immaculate room, and friendly, helpful receptionists. Loved my stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Five stars for the excellent service and property location. The facilities are clean (my room was cleaned everyday) and as described in website with prices suitable for solo travellers. I usually prefer Airbnbs close to lively neighbourhoods but this hotel is an exemption. Ambra was fabuluous with her local recommendations too! I love how you can leave the keys at the counter and don’t have to worry about losing it. The location is brilliant as its close to Rialto bridge - maps don’t work very well in Venice as the streets are alike but there are useful signs to San Marco and Rialto, so you can go back & forth to hotel without getting lost! It’s close to alilaguna rialto stop to/from airport and a good 15-20min walk to san marco. It’s cold mornings and nights in April but pretty warm during the rest of the day so it was great to be very close to shops - I go for early morning walks, go home to lose the jumper and rest, go out again for lunch, then back for siesta (sleep) and be out again with proper oufit for dinner and late night drinks. Will def be booking here again when back in Venice! Highly recommended!
- 836alys (10/5): Long weekend fabulous - We went from fri to mon, fab hotel for a base central to saint marks square and rialto bridge, made very welcome room was a small double, dont expect all the bells and whistles but it was a fab place to stay. It had a mini fridge and tv, shower and toilet, bed was very comfy and all very clean
- Retired_Stockevik (10/5): Small and friendly hotel in the best location! - San Salvador is a small hotel just 100 meters from the Rialto Bridge. This is a very good location for your visit to Venice, 15 minutes walk takes you across most of Venice. The hotel is small and hidden away in the small Calle Galeazza, in the San Marco district. A narrow stairway leads to the reception where you will be received by Ambra or another of the very friendly and helpful staff. Ambra cheerfully helped us a lot with information about places to eat, advice about visiting and travel, and was a great support during the days of extreme flooding.
The rooms are small and basic - normal for Venice - but functional, clean and comfortable. The hotel is situated in a dead end ally, so there is little street noise at night. There is regrettably no breakfast room, but the area is full of cafés and trattorias, so you don't have to go far for breakfast. There is no lounge or common room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is very basic and the bed was uncomfortable. But it's well located and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
- Alicia (10/5): - The Hotel San Salvador is in a great location. The room we had was small but clean and comfortable. It's in a great location, central to dining, shopping. The staff is wonderful, friendly and very helplful
- Raul (8/5): - Was great. Nice hotel close to everything. The staff was nice and available.
- Katelyn (8/5): - The service staff was amazing and gave so many helpful tips to make our four days in Venice perfect. The Hotel is in a great location it difficult to find. Make sure you look at the pictures and read the direction before getting to Venice. I gave the “comfort” a 3/5 because the mattresses were pretty rough. That’s my only complaint. Otherwise it was a great experience!
- HappyHitcher (10/5): Just the job - Stayed here due to location / price and previous reviews. As mentioned by most service from all the staff was excellent - any questions answered quickly and always in a friendly manner. Our room 11 was smallish but functional with a supermarket priced mini drinks bar (excellent prices). Large bed and comfy - shower area ok and did the job. Traditional type room.
Remember to leave the mosquito plug in - I turned it off so I could charge my phone and woke up with 3 large bites on my neck ( well I think it was or my wife 😂).
It was quiet considering how busy it is in the area.
You don’t need all the quality hotels as we weren’t in it much apart from getting changed or sleeping.
Great location - would stop here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location of this property was excellent with not too many stairs which was great. The only issue which was stated when I saw it on Expedia, is that it is noisy and yes it is but you are in Venice and on vacation so noise should not be a big issue. My room was #15 which was right up from the entrance stairs which was not ideal. There was also a big stair to get from the room to the bathroom which was not ideal and actually loose. I would definitely stay at this property again but would see if another room was available.
- Roger_TTO (10/5): Excellent Location and Very Helpful Staff - We spent three days in Venice and chose this hotel based on the excellent reviews. The staff tried to make our stay as comfortable as they could. They provided extensive guidance about Venice in general, restaurants, sites and transportation. We highly appreciate their hospitality. Thank you!
The room fulfilled our needs despite the shower area being quite small. The facilities were clean.
The hotel is in an excellent location. It was about 30 seconds walk to the quite lively square with the Monumento Storico a Carlo Goldoni. The Rialto Bridge including all its flavor was 5 minutes walk. There is a pub (Devil Forest) close by for a bit of boozing. It was easy to walk with luggage from the drop off points at the Rialto Bridge. The walk paths were generally flat.
- gogonzo13 (10/5): Small hotel, wonderful staff! - The room and bathroom were very nicely sized. The location is very close to the Rialto bridge and a 10 min walk to San Marco square. Amber was delightful and extremely helpful as were the rest of the staff. We loved the location and the hotel was clean and affordable. Would definitely stay here again. The entrance is down an alley off of the plaza near the Rialto. Look for the disney store and turn there.
- VistaBritishColumbia (10/5): Two Star hotel with Five Star "Service, Location & Cleanliness" - Arrived at hotel after over 20 hrs travel to a warm welcome by Ambra who managed to have our room ready a bit before check-in time ...which was so appreciated. The staff, front desk and cleaning were fantastic. Anything we needed, bottle opener, extra pillow, glasses, etc ..was provided immediately and with a smile.Always ready to answer questions and help with directions. The room was spotless and cleaned daily. The hotel felt very safe and secure. Ambra had warned us that the room was small but we managed to fit in two suitcases and backpacks without any problem,Location was perfect...couple of minutes from water taxi and Rialto Bridge...lots of restaurants and supermarket nearby. Easy walk to St Mark's Square. Quiet at night and area felt safe. Would absolutely stay at San Salvador again..
- jim10013 (10/5): A GREAT REASONABLY PRICED SMALL HOTEL IN A GOOD LOCATION IN VENICE - I really enjoyed staying in the Hotel San Salvador. The staff — especially Ambra at reception — were always friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, all the electrical and wifi worked and the water in the shower was hot. The price for the room was very reasonable and I would definitely stay there again.
I found the location central and very convenient: a 5 minute walk from the Rialto stop on the Grand Canal vaporettos and 10 minutes from San Marco.
But this is not a huge full service hotel. I think it only has about 15 rooms and there is no room service, porters or even breakfast. There is a steep staircase from the front door to the reception and there is no guarantee of getting any help with your bags. The rooms are on the reception floor and a floor above so plan on walking the stairs (and to reduce the walking specifically request a room on the reception floor).
Also the room — which is furnished in a kind of 19th century country Italian style —is tiny, just a little bigger than the bed. The bathroom is also really small with the shower barely big enough to bend down in. Personally, I found it cozy but if you need a lot of space this place is not for you.
PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT TRY TO FIND THE HOTEL USING AN APPLE MAP!! It will take you to completely the wrong place. For some reason, this is a problem with their mapping that Apple has not fixed. But even Google maps will only bring you close to the hotel.
You can find it more precisely by looking for directions to these 2 restaurants: da Mamo pizzeria and Trattoria da Mario alla Fava. The hotel is right between these two restaurants.
If you can find Campo San Bartolomio you will see a DISNEY store and next to it a narrow alley marked Calle Galeazza. The entrance to the hotel is down this alley on the right side. Push the buzzer and they will buzz the door open.
If you are coming from the bus station or the railway station take the #1 Vaporetto to the Rialto stop. If you are coming from the airport take the Ailaguna ORANGE LINE (follow signs from the arrival area), buy a ticket before you board and get off at the Rialto stop.
AND if you have ANY questions, the hotel people I am sure will be happy to help you. BUT some of the booking services will not give you the hotel email or give the hotel your email. IF YOU BOOK THIS HOTEL, SEND THEM AN EMAIL TO TELL THEM YOU ARE COMING AT THEIR EMAIL ADDRESS (which you can find by going directly to the hotel's website).
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel experience at san salvador - Our stay at Hotel San Salvador was amazing! Stefania took great care of us and gave us great ideas of what to do in Venice. Strongly recommend for any length stay.
- Sonya (6/5): Friendly staff and great location! - Awesome location, steps from Rialto Bridge and new shopping mall in Venice. The water bus stop is really close to get you anywhere you need! The single room was small as expected, but the shower was tiny, hard to fit in. It was nice to have mini fridge stocked with cold drinks to purchase. The stairs getting into the hotel and up to my room on the second floor were not got the faint of heart! Steep and narrow!!All staff went out of there way to help my stay in Venice one to remember. The only downside is there is a restaurant next store that is open until midnight then they clean up, so it is quite loud until about 1 am. I was there over a weekend, so that probably contributed to the noise. All in all it was a great place to enjoy Venice!
- Mark (10/5): - Great location 3 minutes walk to Rialto Bridge. Very secure with 24 hour staff on duty and very helpful. Would stay here again
- JAMES (10/5): NICE SMALL HOTEL IN A GREAT LOCATION - Great small hotel with very reasonable prices in a perfect location to see Venice. The rooms are small but very clean and the staff is friendly and extremely helpful. I would suggest you email the hotel directly (address is on their website) with any questions or requests you have before your arrival. It is close to the Rialto stop of the Orange Line Alilaguna vaporeta from the airport or the Number 1 line from the bus or train stations. There are steps to the reception and more steps if your room is on the floor of above the reception. Also do not try to use Apple maps to find the hotel-- it takes you to the wrong place. Use Google map or just find the Campo at Campo S. Bortolomio, 5257 and look for the very narrow alley next to the store marked Calle Galeazza. The hotel is down that alley on the right: look for the panel with the hotel name on it, press the indicated button and the door to the hotel will buzz open.
- Christien (10/5): Highly recommended - Excellent location, room and customer service.
- Joseph (10/5): - Great location! Staff was very helpful and clean room.
- Xiomara (8/5): - This is a very modest hotel with very small rooms. If you are traveling in a budget and just looking for a place to sleep, this is a good choice. You get what you pay for. This was my last stop in my trip to Italy and the hotels in the previous locations were way more comfortable and the price difference wasn’t that much. Location however is great and the hotel staff is very helpful and friendly.
- Curt (8/5): Great Location & Lovely Staff - We stayed here for 3 nights in July and had a great time.
The location is fantastic as it's close by to Rialto Bridge and some great bars/restaurants.
The staff were amazing, they were so helpful and accomodating.
The towels weren't quite what we are used to and the hairdryer wasn't very good but apart from that the room was perfect for what we needed.
Would definitely stay again and would recommend.
- Josue (10/5): - Excellent service from all the staff. The hotel is perfect and it’s in a perfect location.
- John (8/5): - This hotel was very well situated - only a few minutes from the Rialto Bridge. The hostesses were very helpful with advice about sights to visit and places to eat. The room was tiny - in Venice I guess this is expected - and not much room to turn around in the bathroom. We could pretty well reach out the window to the building across the street - so a little claustrophobic. But this was a good trade-off for being so close to San Marco, and part of the experience of being in a very old city. Have a good map if you tend to get lost . . .
- Elisha (10/5): Clean room, great staff, close to everything - Booked last minute after getting off a cruise. I usually stay at Marriotts or Hilton for points but they were too expensive for an overnight in Venice. This hotel was perfect for my short stay. The desk staff was nice and helpful. I didn’t have the right plugs for electric sockets so they loaned me one. I got great advice about where to eat and when to sight see for shorter lines.
I stayed in room 11 at night the lights outside the building shine bright and the restaurant is noisy. I’m a light sleeper and normally this would have bothered me but I was exhausted and leaving in the morning so it wasn’t so bad.
I would definitely come back
- Mary (8/5): - Staff very friendly. Location was excellent . Able to walk or take water bus close by.
- Nancy (8/5): - This is a low-budget hotel in Italy with superb location and customer service.
- SallyandChris (10/5): - Excellent location, exceptionally helpful staff who helped us to find two amazing restaurants. Very clean and comfy beds. A little dated but you are in Venice after all so very in keeping with the location. Cannot recommend enough and we will be back next year for sure :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff were wonderful and the location was perfect.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent Location - Great location in the heart of Venice. Very helpful hotel staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cosy clean place near to a vibrant area. - The ladies in charge of the place are very friendly and provide good information. Room is small but is clean and in a good area for sightseeing.
- Emily (10/5): - The staff is AMAZING!!! So friendly and helpful! They make you feel like family! The walls are thin so it’s a little Maoist if that bothers you. The bed was pretty comfortable. The room looks a little dated but is clean and comfortable. Great location!!! The staff and location make this hotel wonderful! Would absolutely stay there again!
- Maria (8/5): Cozy and nice 👍 - Very good, it was very easy to find, the first day though, we got lost, 😅, it was a very small hotel, but very nice. I only have one thing I don’t like. That thing is..... don’t book a room near the window where a bar is located, because at night, it has music and you can’t sleep. The customer service was very good, and nice with us. It was very well located, too. It was near the Rialto Brige.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very good hotel to stay in Venice - Wonderfully located very close to Rialto bridge. Very clean rooms. Excellent staff, very friendly and knowledgeable - ask them for suggestions.
- Jane (8/5): Extremely well placed hotel with excellent staff - Staying here was a pleasure. It had the informality of student digs which made for a relaxed stay. This suited us fine. Everything was within walking distance. I wish that more hotels could work with such a model.
- Seth (10/5): New Year's Eve in Venice - Venice continues to be an amazing place to visit. The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful with recommendations for what to see and where to eat with the locals. In particular they helped me find the perfect place to watch the New Year's Eve fireworks.
- Ilana (10/5): - Amazing location, friendly staff and great little hotel.
- SENG HOON (8/5): The place is clean, staff is polite & helpful. - It was excellent. The location is very convenient & easy to get around. They are many restaurants, cafe & shops are within proximity.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location very friendly ,a little old fashioned and small rooms but very clean
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay. - Great Location. Clean and comfortable room and service. Everyone at the helpdesk especially Ambra(hope I spelled her name correct) was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
- Jai (8/5): Close to the water taxi station. - If you know where you are are going it is very close one of to the main Vaporito station, and to the MAIN St Marco PIAZZA. Reception and cordiality were great. I was there for only one night. It was very clean, and i was able to sleep. I was lucky to have quiet people beside me, otherwise you hear everything going on next to you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quirky little Venice a stones throw from Rialto! - We stayed here at Hotel San Salvador very recently and we were made feel very welcome. We arrived after 8pm and were left in by the night porter who was very friendly and gave us two recommendations for restaurants that wouldn't rob us blind near the Rialto Bridge.
The hotel was so easy to get to from the Rialto water bus stop. We were about as centre as you get without having throngs of people at your window. We found the hotel to be the perfect starting point to tour the city and could easily get from any side of the city without hassle and never had a problem finding it again. It is down an alleyway that is so well signposted.
The room itself was very old fashioned Venetian but it was spotlessly clean. There was a wardrobe, a safe, a fridge mini bar. There were lots of places to charge phones. The bed was just like every other European city that has character. They're not large but this was not a problem. The washroom had a shower that always had hot water, a sink and a hair dryer! I have very long hair and it took me exactly 10minutes to dry it. It probably wouldn't suit everyone because it is one of those weird hose type ones so bring your own if you don't want the hassle!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It's quirky and well maintained. The staff were wonderful. The two ladies who happened to be sisters at the reception were so helpful and friendly, offering great advice and always with smile as was the other nighttime porter. Would stay again!
- Matty (8/5): Centrally Located - The check in/check out was quick and easy. Ambra and Stefania (hi ladies!) were helpful and ready to answer any questions before and during my visit. They accepted a package for delivery and made arrangements for the package collection after I departed. Overall, their hospitality allowed me to focus on my holiday with no worries.
- Wayne (10/5): Perfect location in a remarkable city - Couldn't be a better place to be in Venice. The staff were just amazing with helping us enjoy this unique place. If you are still able to clime up and down steps then go to Venice before its to late. The staff at the San Salvador helped us in so many ways to enjoy Venice and avoid the tourist masses that I can't thank them enough.
- David (8/5): Great location - Not the Ritz but has everything you need for a good night sleep. Small room but comfortable. Wonderful staff, great smiles and terrific suggestions. Would definitely stay again.
- Krystal (8/5): - My husband and I were there for 3 nights as part of our tour of Italy, once we found the hotel our stay was lovely. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was a decent size, shower a little small for my husband but it worked. Great location, very close to Rialto Bridge and St.Mark's Square!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room is nothing special but certainly fulfills any travelers needs. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is perfectly located within walking distance of all the major attractions.
- Anna (8/5): - The friendliest staff ever! Everyone we encountered at the desk was super friendly and helpful. You do have to leave the keys with them when you leave but there is someone at the desk 24/7 to let you in. The room was really spacious. One thing though was the pillows are very flat..it gave me a stiff neck for the next three days..if they could upgrade the pillows then I would definitely stay here again. The hotel is super close to the Rialto bridge which makes it very convenient. It's also a 3min walk to Suso which is the best gelato place in venice! Definitely stop there!
- Roberta (8/5): - We stayed two nights at this hotel and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is well located, and not as hard to find as some reviews say. Just turn down the Alley by the Disney store close to the Rialto bridge.
The only drawback, was a lot of thumping and noise, along with thin pillows. The noise could have been from the street, or other guests - we could not figure it out. Good earplugs is all you need.
- Manny (6/5): Convenience in Venice - Ambra, who checked me in was very warm and welcoming. This hotel is 3 minutes walk to the Rialto vaporetto stop although the hotel is located in the district of San Marco. All the points of interest are within walking distance from the hotel. The room and shower are quite small and the cotton towels are more like big table cloth but dries up your hair and body okay. And you get a fresh one each day. High end shopping is in your doorstep.
- Steve B. (8/5): Great Location! - The front staff were always very friendly and the buzzer used to enter never took more than a few moments to respond. Mattress was basically hard springs wrapped in fabric, but that's realy the only downside to the hotel. Didn't spend much time in the room anyway!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Five star service - By far, the best front desk staff I have ever encountered. I have stayed in everything from crowded hostels to five-star resorts and the front desk personnel at this hotel was far and away the most knowledgeable, professional, and kind. I genuinely felt looked after, valued, and like they cared about my stay in Venice. Everything from detailed restaurant recommendations (which were delicious!), to watching our bags, to drawing us maps, to discussing the nuisances of gelato ... I can't say enough.
The location is fantastic - 3 minute walk from the Rialto. I recommend getting there via water taxi. It's just off a small square with tons of food and shopping. Gondola stop right at the end of the alley. The room was small (it's Venice!), but very clean and well-kept. Housekeeping does a great job. I cannot wait to return and will definitely stay here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff was charming and very helpful. The location was very good. Only downside was the bed which was too hard.
- Andrea (10/5): Nice hotel in excellent location - The hotel was the perfect location to explore all of Venice on foot! The front desk staff is extremely kind and helpful. They offered great suggestions for things to do and see.
- jill (6/5): Good basic hotel, great location - This is a basic hotel but great location and very welcoming staff. Rooms are small but have fridge and AC. Bathroom is small but all you need. A good base for exploring Venice.
- George (10/5): Very Venetian - The hotel is well situated to reach all the main areas of interest, and the owners are very helpful. We learned a lot of great travel tips for future planning! Our room was small, but well laid out to provide maximum comfort & amenities.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful - Helpful and pleasant staff. AC was amazing!
- Erin (10/5): Great hotel in central Venice! - My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel San Salvador in July 2017 and we absolutely loved it! It was clean, quiet and so central, right next to the Rialto bridge. There was a beautiful terrace and the staff were all so helpful and kind! They helped us with whatever we needed and took good care of us. Our room was cool and comfortable and we just loved our stay. Highly recommend!
- David (8/5): Quite hotel in the heart of Venice - Small, basic but very comfortable hotel with helpful and informative staff.
- Pete (8/5): Marco Polo! - Good. 1. In close proximity to Rialto bridge, and surrounding neighborhoods. Including some 100m to Opera.
2. Staff get perfect marks. They helped me carry my luggage up the dozen marble steps to reception, and then into my room. Then when I left, back down the stairs again, and gave me a bottle of water.
3. Had a couple blisters on foot, and they provided special bandages that one can cut to fit.
4. Answered all my questions, and gave excellent directions on a map of those things I wanted to see. Plus - on appropriate attire for churches, etc.
5. Had great suggestions on path to take, and things to see - avoiding the throngs. Secure and safe room - left laptop all day.
6. Ensuite bath. Good shower pressure. Controllable water temp. Very clean!
Challenges. 6. Small rooms, though nice with shutters opening to second floor, back alley view.
7. Local restaurants were below par in quality, and overpriced. Have to either go West past San Marco square, or East to the local neighborhoods.
8. Minimal trash receptacles. Actually, none in San Bartolomero square. Sadly, this one part reminded me of Naples, So people stack their trash on top of the pay phones, or in the corners of the alleys and buildings. And there are signs to not leave your trash! Ah, how about trash receptacles around the open squares, local government officials?
