It was a bit loud outside, but it was ok for Venice standards and given the location. The breakfast. It is included, but I would include such a breakfast in the cost of the room. Better no breakfast than what is proposed. Instant coffee, in Italy? It was really strange. Definitely room for improvement. The staff was super nice, though.

We felt special there which is something I wanted for my daughter’s first trip to Venice . The view of the canal and the piazza with Church its bell tower were fascinating . The location is very central with good restaurants and shops nearby. The breakfast room is also charming. The staff are very helpful and gracious. I liked everything . Just a heads up if a person can’t do stairs it has one flight of stairs to enter hotel .

Your front desk staff was very snotty and I felt like she just does not like to be disturbed , on what ever she was encoding . Bathrooms were updated and showers were modern and plumbing was great. Location was excellent, St. Mark’s Square was an easy walk with lots of restaurants and shops along the way.

jody (6/5): - After arriving after a long overnight international flight, we went to take a nap in the room and after sleeping for an hour the air-conditioning kicked on causing a very loud clicking sound just over the bed like a plane card in the spokes of a bicycle wheel. I went to the front desk to let them know there was an issue and they had no solution for me other than to turn off the air-conditioning to our room. So we stayed the night with no air-conditioning.

652JohnS (4/5): Best Attribute Is Location - We stayed at Hotel Antico Doge for three nights in May 2025. We had anticipated there would be some Venice quirky, like sloping floors, small rooms / bathrooms. Unfortunately, our most expensive hotel stay in our thirty-five days in Italy was memorable, but for all the wrong reasons. When we arrived, we were told that the Air Conditioning was “deactivated”, the following day that became “not working”. We knew from a previous visit to Venice that sleeping with the windows open is an open invitation to the resident mosquito population. Worse yet, our “Superior Room” overlooked a restaurant patio, that closed around 10:00 PM, at which time they started packing up tables and folding chairs. We voiced our concerns to the Resident Manager, and she offered to refund a percentage of the cost. She also offered a fan (which proved to be useless) and a plug-in mosquito repellent, oddly not offered at check-in. As of twelve weeks after the offer was made, no refund has been received, just a lot of stalling. The hotel includes breakfast, it’s not great. The rubbery, steam table scrambled eggs were about the only hot item. If you don’t pick the first sitting and arrive early, the small selection of fresh fruit will be gone, and like many other items, not replenished. The server was unfriendly, spent a lot of time hiding in the back while we, and others sat with empty coffee cups. There is no lift, except the entry stairs that has a handicap platform-type apparatus for wheelchairs. This only provides access to the reception level, the hallways are also quite narrow. Hotel Antico Doge is in a very good location, I wish I had more good things to say about it. Based on my experience, and that of our travel mates, Hotel Antico Doge survives solely on its location.

Dona Charmilee (10/5): Colonial hotel in a super location! - Hotel Antico Doge was amazing. It was comfortable and had a lovely colonial feel. It was steps away from many central locations and restaurants. The check-in was so smooth with Susanna in touch with us even before check-in. The room was so comfortable and my family didn't want to leave. The breakfast was very welcoming too. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Venice again.

The only negative to this hotel is that there is not elevator, therefor if you and your family are coming with luggage be ready to carry it to the second floor where the reception is located. There is no one available at the entrance to help you.

Breakfast was excellent with continental and limited hot choices. The room was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The only downside is that the air cond system is out of order, awaiting parts (May ‘25). Our room on the second floor was never below 24C. With daytime temperatures set to rise, this could be a real problem. The hotel supplied a room fan which did little good. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon. A male receptionist couldn’t have cared less about the lack of AC but everyone else were very kind and understanding. Retraining needed for him, maybe?
CharlesM567 (8/5): A bit more than 3.5 and not quite a 4 - It's a 3* hotel so never going to be earth shattering. The price of course is what it is, and seemingly in line with other hotels. Location....it's on a really busy thoroughfare, nice and central and close to everything (then again what isn't close?). Room - deluxe with canal view. On hindsight the canal view, while nice, might have been a mistake. This opens out on to the thoroughfare, so is quite noisy. Boats seem to start soon after 6am. The bed was fine as was the bedroom. The bathroom was a little small, as was the shower. But all in all, clean and comfy. Air conditioning - now fortunately it wasn't hot, as it wasn't working. I did ask reception, and was told "it doesn't work". At breakfast next day, another guest said it wasn't turned on. Maybe not hot enough. However, it is an issue. If you want to get to sleep before about 2am and after 6am, best keep the windows closed to keep the sound out. That means the room can get a bit stuffy. But also if you have the window open, the smell from the canal pervades the room, and TBH it isn't that pleasant. Breakfast - arriving at 11pm, we were given the choice of sittings. 7.30-8.30, 8.30-9.30, 9.30-10.30. The 8.30-9.30 was obv popular as it was booked out, though we would have gone for the earlier one anyway. Leaving - we left at 6.30am and it was a nice touch for the hotel to have provided a packed breakfast to take with us. Drink, yoghurt, fruit, packed croissant. One word of advice if coming here.....pack some earplugs.
matttaylor675 (6/5): Okay, but smelly and old - Pungent smell immediately when entering room, which never left. We left the light and fan on in the bathroom all night in an attempt to rid us from the smell. No joy. Bathroom tiny, approx 30 cm between toilet/bidet & vanity. Shower mixer wouldn’t stay up so rather awkward to shower. We plugged our phones into the bedroom sockets and got a few sparks, decided not to leave them plugged in. Air con didn’t work so had to leave window open in order to try and air the smell, loud outside all night. Air con had an LCD screen but couldn’t locate any ducted system, assume the old heater vent is the exhaust? Sticky doors hard to open and close. Aside from these defects, lovely quaint character place

Felipe (10/5): - Amazingly located small boutique hotel. Beautiful interior, very clean, and comfortable. I stayed a few nights, and it's close to all attractions and transportation options. Breakfast was good and diverse.
stephanie (6/5): - We enjoyed this location with plenty to do around but the room had a dank smell to it and it didn't seem to have any ventilation as it made it hot in the room at night. Staff was great, complimentary breakfast was very good. Centrally located. Maybe the fan wasn't working to cool the room. The bathroom was very nice, bed was comfortable and everything was clean. Water taxi dropped and picked us up no more then 10 feet from the door. As a whole nice place.

Carol (10/5): A happy repeat visit to the Hotel Antico Doge - This was our second visit to the hotel. It has an excellent location a bit out of the San Marco scrum, close to the Rialto bridge and excellent restaurants. From the train station, you take the vaporetto to the Ca D’Oro stop and then a 4 minute walk to the hotel. Our room was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast and coffee were very good! The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a flight of stairs from the pavement to the first floor of the hotel, but the staff will help with luggage

Convenient location in the city center. Nice variety at their breakfast which was included with the room. They also supplied a tea kettle with tea.

Yvonne (10/5): - This hotel was perfect for our 4 night stay, clean, safe, quiet, convieniently situated, beautiful and breakfast was delicious. We didn't particularly need them but staff were discreet and helpful. Would definitely stay again next time i visit Venice.
John (2/5): - My first impression of the hotel was its lack of any sense of business acumen, the woman at the front desk seemed to be to busy doing whatever is was, which seemed to be nothing on her computer. First strike. The entry into the room up the spiral staircase, although quaint, very precarious, the room itself was average in size and definitely underwhelming, and that’s where it all began, as we opened the door to the bathroom, we were overtaken with such a horrific stench that honestly I thought an animal had died in the room, I spoke with Mrs.Friendly from the front desk and she blamed it on the tides, I’ve stayed in many low lying areas like Venice before and I’ve be never had an issue like this, when we left for the day, it seemed they sprayed massive amounts of air fresheners to try and mask the odors, something like lipstick on a pig, needles to say, this only made the problem worse. Sleeping was a complete nightmare as well, the pancake pillows and the stench of the room were enough to keep me awake and add to all that the location of the hotel was on the canal, with the primary school next door and when the children let out, the access was a complete disaster. If I could rate the hotel in negative numbers, I certainly would, The STAFF and the STENCH were unbearable. DO NOT BOOK
Olga (10/5): - We lived this hotel. It’s such a beautiful landmark building and in a perfect location, close up everything. We hired the porter service and walked from the S.Lucia train station to the hotel in 20 minutes. We walked at 3 am to the hotel thru the streets of Venice with no issues. Our deluxe room was like a dream room from a palace with a spacious bathroom and amenities. The water taxi was conveniently right by hotel entrance and we were able to go to and back from the carnival ball. If i come back next year ant any time again., staying here again. All staff was very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast, everyone was nice and friendly, English speaking do no problems communicating, the only thing on facility is they have no elevator, at least not yet. Do be prepared to get a porter if you have problems carrying the luggage. Other than that all perfect!!!!! Was

SeashellMari (10/5): Beautifully Clean, Delicious Breakfast, Excellent Location, Great Staff - We wanted location and value specifically, which this hotel impressively features, but we were just as thrilled with our room, the staff, and breakfast amenity. Our family of four (with a 10 and 13yo) had a spacious suite with two full bathrooms. The kids comfortably slept on a couch and roll out bed. The hotel is beautifully decorated in ornate, baroque decor which is fabulously Venetian. Most importantly, our rooms were clean and well-kept. Another plus is that we couldn't hear outdoor or hallway noise. The staff we encountered were exceptionally kind and always helpful. Beginning each day with an amazing warm breakfast and cappuccino made-to-order was a welcoming, wonderful way to enjoy Venezia. Once we learned routes filled with many turns and twists of alleyways, we realized the walk to major sights were close and enjoyably scenic. We suggest taking a scenic water taxi ride of some sort (although crowded) from the St. Lucia train station. It's a bit of a walk even with just carry on luggage, but Antico Doge is the place to be in Venice!!!
Jacqueline (8/5): Excellent location with great staff however appears to be lack of maintenance - Location/staff were excellent/ breakfast very good/ comfortable bed Maintenance - shower doors were broken but useable, mirror on bracket loose from wall, one of the toilet flushes didn’t work, shower tap surround was loose.

Robert (8/5): - Just a 10 min walk to everywhere. Taxi stop outside the door. Very clean with friendly staff. No lift but stairs were easy. Breakfast was just ok, not a huge choice but there are so many eateries nearby. My only complaint would be limescale on the shower head and no milk cartons in the room. Would definitely use again.

Paul (10/5): - Property was in a great location, very safe, quiet after 10-11pm and quiet in the morning. Breakfast was good and very convenient with a good view! Bathroom was spacious with great water pressure and plenty of hot water, hvac worked great. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the fact they stored our luggage after we checked out before we had to go back to the train station. Would definitely stay here again.
