- Debra Yeo (8/5): - This is a charming hotel with very friendly staff. My room was tiny but very cosy. The downside is the noise from the street if you’re on that side of the hotel. I used my earplugs and slept great the first night. The second I kept the earplugs out so I would hear my alarm. An unusually high wind made the flag poles outside my fifth floor room bang all night. But I would stay here again because of what you get for the price.
- Javier (8/5): - This charming hotel is situated in a quiet and safe neighbourhood. It is conveniently located near numerous dining options and several underground stations, all within walking distance. The rooms are modern and comfortable, despite their compact size. My sole complaint was the bed, which appeared to have been rotated and was sagging towards one side. Other than this, the hotel was excellent.

- Office of (6/5): - The area was nice and quiet with easy access to restaurants, groceries and public transportation. The hotel was older but reasonably maintained. The initial room had a bed that was so worn and an indentation in the mattress that caused me to wake with some back stiffness. They did accommodate my requests change rooms and the 2nd bed was much better. The sign on their bathroom I instructed on how to get towel changes when needed but no cleaning person ever came into the room to check on that. I had to walk down the stairs to ask the night clerk for fresh towels because the phone in the room didn't work. London is expensive so I had to go with value which this hotel did offer.
- Phyllis (10/5): - We loved the garden terrace in the back and the staff were all very helpful. The breakfast was nice but limited (great latte). There was a table & chairs in our room (I assume in association with the small kitchenette). However that left no room for luggage at all. Perhaps a cafe table would serve better? The beds were very comfortable and they were able to hold our luggage albeit at a cost of 25€ (which I thought to be a bit steep). All in all we enjoyed our stay.
- Karina (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff and lovely accommodation. The apartment was in the basement so it was a bit dark in the lounge area, but otherwise it was perfect for what we wanted. Plenty of room for 3 of us for one night. Note also there is no door to the twin bedroom.
- William (4/5): If older, insure the room location. - Unfortunately I arrived (76 y.old male) for a 3 day stay to find my room was a 4th floor walk-up (77 steps). When expressing my concern/displeasure hoping it could be changed, if not then, but maybe the next day, and they pretty much blew me off. Sorry we are rather full. Well at my age the climb was difficult and somewhat hazardous. They did have someone bring my larger suitcase up. It became an issue as I had to more carefully plan any trip outside. No quick run to the pub or Tesco for a snack given the hassle of going down and back up. It completely changed my trip planning and scheduling. I think they could have made a much better effort to move me later in my stay. So if you can't climb 77 stairs everytime you want to go out, reconsider your choice. The place was clean and lovely and the location excellent, but the room assigned was unacceptable and greater care should have been given to the remainder of my stay
- Tracey (8/5): Friendly and helpful - Very friendly hotel and staff. Great location and very helpful staff. Room was up 3 flights of stairs with no lift access so might be a consideration for some guests but the hotel staff kindly helped with my luggage.
- Valerie (8/5): Lovely quirky building - Lovely quirky building full of character. Good central location and a kitchenette in my room which would be really useful for a longer stay. My only negative was it was difficult to find because of how many streets form Princes Square!
- Svetozar (8/5): Decent place in a decent location - Family room of adequate size, clean and properly furnished. Comfy beds. The staff is polite. The location is perfect in general and for what we were looking for. Three tube stations within 10 mins., one stop from Paddington for a quick transfer to Heathrow. Hyde Park is 5 mins away. Plenty of restaurants in the area, representing the popular cuisines. Department stores of various size and level.
- John (2/5): - I felt uncomfortable staying here. The staff was less than cordial and argued when I explained thst I had limited ability to carry luggage up multiple flights of stairs. There aas non air conditioning and the room was rather dark. I received no housekeeping services diring my stay but was required to leave the key each time I ventured out. During my stay I was a victim.of identify theft and left early. I have been unable to resolve that issue. The property has a nice appearance and is in a good location. However I did not find it welcoming or warm and friendly. It made me uncomfortable and I travel frequently.
- Delia (10/5): - VHS is such a beautiful hotel in a perfect central location. The general manager, Luca, is absolutely amazing! We got to the hotel a few hours before check-in, and he went out of his way to move some things around so that all three of us could get into our rooms by 11am. VHS is perfect combination of charm, comfort, and hospitality. Highly recommended!
- Jennifer (10/5): This is my ideal stay - I will keep returning! - This is my third stay in this excellent answer to my London trip needs. As always immaculately clean and very comfortable. Highly functional organisation of a small space that provides for everything including a tea towel. I don't know if the room walls are sound proofed but it is always quiet and private. The staff are always friendly and available and this time there was a difficulty with the hot water supply to my shower which was promptly fixed - so immediately not a problem! It is a quaint and stylish environment - so the only arduous element, which is the journey up and down the stairs, becomes intriguing! The location is ideal - minutes on foot from Bayswater tube station or alternatively within a comfortable and flat surfaced 15 minutes walk from Paddington. The immediate locale very quiet and residentially attractive and yet again within minutes there is access to shops and all supplies. The 24 hour reception provides for a sense of continuous care and security. This is my ideal stay - I will keep returning!

- Tamara (4/5): - There are no lifts in this property and I was not notified prior ~ that I would have to navigate 3 flights of steep stairs to get to my tiny single room. By tiny, I mean that the door doesn’t even open fully. The staff were less than helpful when it came to my check out as I had no idea how I was to get my suitcase down these stairs with a bad back. Communication terrible and ladies were actually quite rude in making me feel like it was my problem. I will never stay again nor would I recommend. It’s unfortunate that this was my experience but hopefully it might support others when making a decision on where to stay…

The hotel was a couple of blocks from Bayswater Underground Station and a Main Street with plenty of shops and restaurants. It was also an easy walk to Notting Hill. The staff were friendly. My daughter and I enjoyed having our own beds. There was a nice garden area where we could have enjoyed breakfast if we hadn’t had such a packed schedule. We didn’t like having to turn our key in whenever we went out. Sometimes when we returned from the theatre at night, we had to buzz several times to be let in. The room was very tiny. We could only open our suitcases if they were on the beds. The bathroom was about the size of an airplane bathroom with no shelf or ledge space to leave our toiletries. There was no a/c in the room so it was uncomfortably warm. There was a ceiling fan, which helped some, but it could have been cooler. We had to close the windows to sleep because it was noisy outside so we couldn’t get any fresh air. On our second night there, I looked under the bed for something I dropped and discovered a pair of dirty underwear from the previous guests. I told the front desk the next morning and they didn’t send housekeeping until 2:30 that afternoon.

Cons: No A/C but you can open your window. Overall I would come back.
- Jennifer (10/5): - This is my second stay here and I'm already booked in for another in August - I'm so happy I found it - it is perfect for my 4 or 5 times a year visits to the city. I cannot fault it - everything is a good as it can be. The staff are lovely and welcoming. It is seriously immaculately clean. The bed is comfortable, there is all necessary temporary storage space, the shower is excellent (good pressure), everything necessary in the kitchenette including a tea towel, lighting in all in the right places, plenty of sockets - what's not to be very happy with?! Stairs are steep but frankly worth the effort (I'm 77). Decor is interesting and original and in the rooms very restful - creatively considered! Also highly practical - within 10/15 minutes walking distance to Paddington Station and about 3 minutes to Bayswater underground. Tesco and Sainsbury locals and M&S foodshop literally round the corner and full sized Waitrose and Boots about 6 minutes away - all my potential needs more than adequately catered for.

Staff was all really friendly and held my bags after check out before my flight later that evening. Hotel is in an older building and as a result there are no elevators and the keys for the hotel doors are actual keys. Would 100% recommend if you are wanting to stay in the Notting Hill/Kensington area because the hotel was located in a nice area and it felt very safe as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice looking but poor comfortability. - My room (deluxe single) was on the 5th floor (4th fl. in the UK) and there was no elevator. Stairs were narrow and steep. There were 76 steps or so. If you carry a big suitcase, it’s hard. Shower pressure was very good but the drainage was poor so that I had to watch the shower pan not to overflow. There was not enough room for your legs between the toilet bowl and handwashing basin. I’m 5’2 in height. There a (tobacco?) in the room so I had to open the window for 2-3 inches so that after 10pm you hear the noise from the street.
- JOHN (6/5): - Neighborhood was very nice, quiet and convenient. Room was ok. Wasnt expecting much as i was just looking for a place to shower and sleep. I wished i at least had a fan because it was hot outside and it was uncomfortable in the room given how hot it was. I opened the window at night but it was still hot. Front desk was very nice and friendly other than a male and an older female that seemed to work together the days i saw them. I would stop by on my way out to drop my room key or pick up and these two were not friendly. Hardly made eye contact and no hello or smile. At times just took my key from me and walked away without a word. Seemed annoyed to have customers to deal with. The others were very nice and friendly. Im in a job where I deal with customers daily, so i guess im surprised there is no greeting when a customer walks in. The room served my purpose but will probably stay somewhere else next time where I feel like they appreciate the customers giving them their business. Hate to judge the service based on the 2 people I mentioned but it clearly left a bad impression. I really appreciated the other employees I met. Thank you to them for making me feel welcome.

The staff are friendly and the room was comfortable and with good facilities. Only downside is that there is no lift and the staircase is quite steep and narrow particularly if you are in a room on the top floor. Would happily stay here again.

When we requested a change, they stated they would refund the cost, but the room was booked until the next day. We moved rooms the next day, but only received half credit versus the full credit were were promised. Lack of communication and unfortunate large disappointment overall
- Vicki (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay here. I had a single studio. The bed was comfy and the window had a lovely view. The room had a kitchen with a two-burner stove top, a refrigerator and microwave. It was stocked with a saucepan, frying pan, colander, and dishes/flatware. There was even a bottle of Fairy liquid under the sink, for washing up! I appreciated being able to make my own food, as I have certain dietary restrictions. The shower was tiny, but luckily, I am a small person. Anyone on the heavy side, or even just tall, would be uncomfortable in the shower. There were two heaters in the room. One was portable. There was also a fan. As I was there in the spring, I got a chance to use both! The employees were friendly and helpful. The hotel has no elevator, so be prepared to get a workout going to and from your room. There is a beautiful garden in the back; very quiet. This is not a fancy place, but it is comfortable and affordable.

Close to Hyde Park, shops, restaurants, and two Tube stations, this was an ideal place to stay on our recent trip to London. The outdoor patio was quaint, a little oasis in the city. The room was tastefully designed, had everything we needed ,and very clean.

- Jennifer (10/5): Delighted to have found Vancouver Studios - I'm delighted to have found Vancouver Studios - it met all my needs. I had a single bed studio and it has be to the best possible example of achieving total ease of functionality in a small space I've seen - very cleverly designed and also immaculately clean, very comfortable and the bonus of a well considered decor (throughout - not just the studio). The shower had very good pressure and temperature control and there was surprisingly large cupboard - ideal for clothes, case, boots and quite a lot else! All needs met - even down to the dish towel (often missing in this style of accommodation). The reception staff were all charming and friendly and checked each morning as I left if I required the room serviced (I didn't and I like having a choice). In addition the reception is 7/24 which I find reassuring. I like the attitude to environmental awareness with the usual supply of shower gels, soaps, shampoos etc being provided by dispensers and not lots of little plastic bottles. The location is also excellent - very quiet and pleasant street yet only a 4 minute walk from the Circle line and 12 minute walk from Paddington Station on easy routes. Also a Tesco and Sainsbury's Local accessible within 4 minutes and a Waitrose and Boots within 6/7 minutes. Everything I might need very available! Totally recommend a visit and I certainly plan to go back
- Roderic (8/5): - Cute place, comfortable beds, but for some people they might not like some of the shabbyness of just lots of use. Hot water was great, beds were comfortable, location was great too. We initially were put on the 4th floor, in which the stairs were a bit to small and narrow for my liking. The staff was kind enough to move us to the 2nd floor. If you need to wash clothes you have to do it between 8-8. Even in the winter the rooms were warm.

The room was also very worn and old-fashioned, but clean and neat (albeit the tiniest I had seen in a long time). No charging outlets for mobile phones or other devices (unless you carry a traditional power plug).
- Roy (6/5): Great experience ruined by a receptionist - Up until the last minute it was top notch. Yes, there’s no elevator, steep stairs and the interior design might raise questions (like having the shower in the hallway), but for that price and location - amazing. Also great staff. All but one which changed the entire experience. Upon checking I asked the receptionist if he could order a taxi for me. It was for a very short ride, approximately 5 minutes to Paddington. Would have done that by foot if not the stormy weather. The receptionist said it’s not a problem and made a call. He said it would be like 10 minutes which I found odd, but had about 30 minutes till my train so didn’t mind. It didn’t take 10, it took 20. It wasn’t a real taxi either, just a driver who didn’t even know where the Elizabeth line platforms are. He dropped me in a place where I had to walk 5 minutes in the rain, and I also missed my train. But that’s forgivable. What is the fact he had no meter and demanded no less than 20 GBP for less than a mile. I had to pay in cash and got no receipt. Felt like a scam coordinated with the receptionist. For that, and only for that, I won’t return. Because everything else was great.
- Susan (8/5): - Close to 2 Bayswater and Queensway tubes. Paddington station about 20 minute walk (or 1 station away on tube), so a good option for the Elizabeth Line to or from the airport. Great proximity to Kensington Gardens, Notting Hill, Holland Park, Little Venice. Friendly staff. Quiet. Walkable to many shops and restaurants. Small kitchen. Overall a good budget stay. I think the hotel's 3-star rating is bang on. This isn't 4 or 5 star, but neither is the price. Would stay again. No elevator if you have any difficulty with stairs.

Converted from London townhouses, the hotel antique in layout and quite charming. There are some caveats though: I was in a single room and while well equipped, it was TINY. The second problem was that it was on the third floor, there is no lift and the staircase is VERY narrow and steep. I had bags and it was a real physical challenge to get them to my room. Beware the rooms on the third floor unless you are fit! 🙂 Overall it was a good stay though and I’d stay again.

These smaller rooms have been very well renovated, the only downside being that you have to go up four flights of stairs to get there... The property is a very lovely Victorian house with a nice backyard / little garden. The staff was helpful when I arrived as I got there late morning, having flown from the US, and they did their best to get me to my room quickly. Upon checking out, they asked me if I wanted a bottle of water or coffee. Overall, a very pleasant stay and I recommend this property.

- Lisa (8/5): - We arrived to a very warm welcome by the man at the desk. We had booked a basic twin room. We were given what I assume was a family suite. It was in the basement, very steep stairs down, and a little dark and musty. However, it was huge. Full kitchen, dining table for 6, double bed in the main room, plus a bedroom with twin beds. It was quite noisy as we could hear street conversations and loud bangs from the hotel front door closing. I debated complaining but decided the space was worth staying. Lovely little garden out back. Great area. Would stay again but only on an upper floor.
- Jeannette (6/5): - Not sure I was aware I had to walk up 4-5 flights of narrow stairs with heavy suitcases. It felt unsafe. Room was tiny. Hardly room to walk around one side of bed. Once suitcases open no floor space. Didn’t need the kitchen space. One teabag left for the two of us. Then had to pay for coffee downstairs. Glad it was only one night too claustrophobic.
- Spencer (4/5): - The property has some up sides but potential guests should be forewarned about a few things: Every time you leave you have to leave your room key with the front desk. Then you have to be buzzed back into the hotel. Kinda feels like you're being tested like a child. Also, as there is no elevator, the stairs are very steep and if you're on the top floor, the climb to the top can get real old real fast. Also, the room only comes with two towels and no tissues, or anything to dry your dishes with. Lastly, on the top floor the wifi was spotty and when talking to the front desk they just told me to use my computer downstairs in a seating area. On a positive note, the location is excellent, the room is updated and not a bad size for London. There is also a washer and dryer on-site for 5 pounds which was nice.
