Guest Reviews
- Ralph (10/5): Wonderful Stay, charming hosts. - Our hosts at Panella's Residence, Graziella and Giuseppewere are awesome. We had a wonderful time with them, talking about all sorts of things, they are very friendly and helpful. The residence has an interesting history, and has character. The location is very close to to the Duomo, and is easy to get to.
The room was nice and big, and had air conditioning, which was nice after a hot day out.
There are stairs to navigate, but that is a fact of life in many places in Europe.
Breakfast was very good, with a good selection of foods presented by Graziella and Giuseppe.
Loved our time here, no complaints, will stay here again when next in Florence.
- evelyn (10/5): Fabulous Florence - Great location...great room...great hostess...great breakfast and Giuseppe makes the best cappuccino in Italy. We enjoyed our stay. Luvyall
- Nancy (10/5): Great value if you can handle the stairs! - Panella's is an old convent not far from the SMN train station in Florence. Rooms are big. Breakfast is wonderful. Mrs. Panella is very kind and helpful. It's a historic building and by law they can't modernize it. We loved it but not everyone appreciates old character. Three small issues. A/C doesn't work well (this is an issue all over Europe). Cooled the room but not by as much as most Americans would like. It was about 78 F at best. WiFi dropped constantly---which is an issue also in these old buildings with thick stone walls, not sure much can be done about it. Lastly, the room was up about 40 ancient steep stairs. I have a bad knee and bad balance and this about did me in. I blame Rick Steves for not putting this in the guide! If you're fit, this is no issue...but if stairs are a problem, this might not be the place for you. Otherwise a charming, delicious, good value!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Heritage building with good location - Great location - within easy walking distance to the various sights. Our room was very spacious with a lovely high ceiling although a little noisy. The towels and linen were on the tired side eg towels were torn and the hotel itself could have been cleaner. Breakfast was very simple.
- Lori (10/5): - Great location. Owner goes out of way to help your stay be great!
- Laura (10/5): - We loved staying at Panella’s. Graziella and her husband were so gracious. The building is totally gorgeous as was our room. It was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was basic but good. Good coffee. Good croissants. We could walk everywhere but room was very quiet. Comfortable beds. Only minor problem was the Wi-fi which was not stable. Not a big issue for us. Grazie Graziella!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location in Firenze. - We had a great stay once again as this was on our 2nd time at Panella’s residence. Great room, nice breakfast and great hosts. Located right behind the Duomo so walking distance to everything. Graziella is a lovely host and will recommend restaurants, help with tickets, taxi’s to the airport, etc. You’ll enjoy your Stay!
- Steve (8/5): Comfortable stay close to local attractions - Lovely spacious room and bathroom. Breakfast minimal but we had enough to start the day. Friendly owners. Easy walk to ponte vecchio and restaurants. Fairly close to the railway station if you don't mind the traffic and bumpy pavements to save you a very expensive taxi fare.
- Angelo (10/5): - Check-in at Panella's was excellent. Graziella was kind enough to detail on a map of Florence all the relevant places to see, as well as recommended good restaurants and even made reservations for us.
Our overall stay was excellent. The place was clean and very convenient. And the breakfast provided by her husband was just right and in a quiet setting.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location. Easy walk to everywhere. Quiet area. Would definitely stay again.
The Panellas were wonderful hosts. Recommended excellent restaurants and helped with all our questions.
Only negative side was that our room, which was quite nice and large, had a large bath and handheld shower which we did not like.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - She was so sweet and welcoming and we will definitely recommend to friends
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay at Panella’s. The location was great. The breakfast was wonderful. The B&B is in a 1400 year old home in a safe area. We were comfortable. The internet could come and go, but otherwise a great experience.
- Cruz Bueno (8/5): - Panellas is very good for every tourist that goes to Firenze.Shes very kind. Very funny. And help you with all the information that you need. Very good neighbourhood.
- Tony (10/5): Great proximity to key locations - The Panellas take great care of you at their B&B! They helped with restaurant recommendations, directions to various locations, and ordering the taxi to the train station.
- Nigel (10/5): Spacious & comfortable - The room was just as we expected with that real Firenze character. Nice and simple. Close to all the important sights and the station. Wonderful assistance with tours and taxis.
- Doug (10/5): Very pleasant stay - Panella's is a very nice place to stay. It is on a quiet street but very close to the Duomo, great shopping, and restaurants. The owner is very accommodating and provided us with maps and routes to walk to all that we wanted to see. We walked from the train station which took about 15 minutes. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.
- Kimberly (10/5): Very nice bed and breakfast. - Very nice bed and breakfast. Owners are very sweet - you feel welcome and like a guest in their home. Delicious homemade cake/pastry, fresh juice, coffee, etc. in morning. Owners very helpful with directions to tourist destinations, restaurants, etc. Hotel is easy walking distance to main Florence destinations (Duomo, Academia, Ufizzi, etc.) Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean. Rooms have mini fridge with water, sodas and beer. Rooms also have air conditioning If you need anything, just ask and they can help you. Great value!! I would most definitely recommend!
- Stephen (10/5): Great property, great location and wonderful host. - Large room, huge bathroom, perfect location and wonderful hosts...we will definitely be back! Grazie...
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very central but super quiet - Graziella is a wonderful host, so friendly and happy to help with everything
The hotel is a 4 minute walk from the Duomo square and all the major attractions are a short walk yet it's tucked away in a quiet street.
Rooms are large with separate bathrooms and powerful hot showers. As it's an old monastery it's quite dark inside with the dark wood ceiling and this is the only reason that I haven't given a higher rating.
I'd definitely recommend and would stay again. Great value for money and delicious homemade cakes served with breakfast. Thank you Graziella xx
- breda (10/5): - amazing place! lovely large rooms.walking distance to all sights.
- Manjunath (10/5): Recommended. - It was good stay very comfartable rooms. It is situated in central area and has access to every thing in walking distances.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice centrally located b&b - Nice comfortable room with dressing room huge bathroom.
Breakfast was okay - not fantastic.
Easy to get to location - we walked everywhere.
- Julie (10/5): - Fabulous place to stay! My husband and I spent a couple weeks touring in Italy and by far our favorite place to stay was Panella's Residence. The accommodations were beautiful and charming, as well as Panella's owner Graziella. Graziella was extremely helpful in booking tours and finding local restaurants that were not too touristy and had great, authentic Italian cuisine. The residence itself was wonderful with large rooms and lots of character. If you're in Florence, this is a must-stay place.
- Rosa (10/5): Great place very close to the Duomo and museums. - Panella's was a great find! It is in a very central location and walkable to just about everything in Florence. Graziella is so gracious and responsive. By the time we left, she felt like family. We had a room to accommodate three adults and breakfast is included at a slightly increased cost. Panella's is a 200 year old former convent. There is something special about staying in an old structure like this. Highly recommended!
- Blythe (10/5): - Very nice hotel with gracious hosts. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom was huge. Good towels too.
Breakfast was good with great cappuccino's.
- Catherine (10/5): - Very cosy and easy to walk to anywhere in central Florence.
- Nick (10/5): Amazing across the board - This place was amazing! From size of the room, decoration, locations, and also the service! The service from the owner and her friend from start to finish was way more than you could ever hope for. They had amazing recommendations for everything around town. The location was perfect for walking to any of the major sights. Not only would we stay here again when we come back to Florence, but we definitely will if she has availability!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel close to the sights and museums - Perfect if you don't have heavy luggage. No elevator.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fabulous situation close to Historic Centre. - Grazier very helpful with advice on bookings/places to eat/car parking.
- Jennifer (10/5): Gorgeous character B&B in the heart of Florence - I loved this place! There are 3 main reasons to stay here:
1. The host Graziella Panella is so lovely, welcoming, and helpful. We immediately felt like family.
2. The character and history can't be beat! The facility is an old home built in the 1500's and was a convent for 200 years before it was bought by a family who kept it for 7 generations. It is a narrow, and tall apartment with four levels, two of which house the 6 guest rooms. There are 44 steps to the top floor so it takes some fitness!
3. The location. Perfect location right in the cultural centre of the city, yet perfectly peaceful and quiet - right around the corner from everything including Michelangelo's David. Initially I wasn't going to stay around the cathedral, but I'm so glad I did. Culture around every corner in the cutest of neighborhoods! I usually like to try new places when I visit, but with Panella's I'd definitely stay here again.
- Heather (8/5): Convenient location - There was a friendly welcome in this old and very attractive townhouse. Visitors should be comfortable with stairs. We had a large well furnished second floor room at the rear of the house. It was very quiet with a spacious wardrobe, a fridge and efficient en-suite. There was no room safe. Buffet breakfast was available from 0830 and the service was friendly. Pamela's has a great location, 20 minutes walk from the train station, 5 minutes from the Duomo. We enjoyed our 3 night stay.
- Carolyn (10/5): Great service - Graziella was delightful and helpful to recommend restaurants! We were happy to be so close to the big museums! Our bathroom was so pretty!
- Terri (10/5): Wonderful stay in Florence - Panella's Residence is beautiful and we enjoyed it very much. The bed-and-breakfast is in a nice location close to the Duomo. Graziella was very hospitable and helpful. The room was large and quiet. The only suggestion we have is to add a large mirror in the room--this would be very nice for 3 women sharing the room, as we did.
- Rahel (10/5): Spacious, comfortable and clean - We found our room including the bathroom to be very spacious and clean. The bed and pillows were very comfortable that we slept well. The AC worked so well in September -with climate control. The residence has an ambience that you would expect from a lovely city like Florence. Graziella and Dominique were friendly and made us feel at home. The breakfast was great- Graziella made fresh coffee, cappuccino, fresh home-made bread, croissants, cakes and there was an assortment of cold cuts, cheese, butter etc., The hotel is about a 5-minute walk from the Duomo and very quiet at night. There is a convenience store nearby to get water, snacks etc.,
- Mike (10/5): Lots of local flavor and character; nice rooms - Staff was super friendly and helpful during our entire stay - answered questions, gave good advice and recommendations, and even arranged a museum reservation at the last minute for us. Room was spacious and comfortable and modern, while the facility itself was full of charm and character, reflecting its history. Good breakfast included. Overall, Panella's made for a wonderful stay in Florence.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Location good with spacious room - Convenient location with super large room, owner gracious, breakfast room confining and dark
- Joyce (10/5): A wonderful B&B very close to many sights. - The host of Panella's was warm, kind and very helpful with questions we had about good places to eat and things to see. This former convent is steeped in history and charm and has lovely large rooms with private baths and plenty of closet space. The breakfasts were more than sufficient to get us fueled up for a long day of walking around Florence. I would recommend this B&B for anyone looking for a small, quaint, friendly and quiet place to stay in Florence.
- Bill (10/5): Quaint Florence Bed & Breakfast - We loved this place. Very small (5-6 room) but rooms were very nice. Building felt historic. Gaziella Panella was very gracious and had a fantastic breakfast with great Capacino's. Gave us incites in were to go and eat and the hotel was minutes from the Duomo and all the major sites in Florence. We walked everywhere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location in Florence - Lovely bed and breakfast in perfect location, near Duomo
Breakfast stated at 8:30 - nice selection of pastries, yogurt, meat, cheese, melon
Rooms were large and air conditioned. Easy sleeping at night
- Verified traveler (10/5): Centrally located with a charming character. - We chose to stay at this B&B as we wanted a different experience to staying in a "traditional" hotel. Panella's Residence (run by Mrs Graziella Panella) fit the bill as it is an old mansion with 5 huge rooms, converted to a cozy B&B.
- stephen (10/5): Wonderful grand old villa. - The location is perfect right in the middle of Florence and walking distance to everything and everywhere. The villa was an old monastery and the owners have perfectly restored and mantained it with an old world charm. Signora Gratziela an her husband were wonderful hosts, charming and most caring. We highly recommend it and we will return to Panella's residence when we return to Florence. Stairs no elevators.

- Todd (10/5): - Graziella, the owner, gave a warm welcome upon arrival and remained helpful, warm and served a terrific breakfast. She gave good recommendations for eating, site seeing and overall, about Florence. The B&B is convenient to everything we wanted to see in Florence. The rooms were quiet, comfortable and well maintained. We would return and stay here again.
- GLENN E (10/5): Warm hospitality and comfort - We really enjoyed our stay and having the opportunity to meet the hotel owners. The location is great. Our room was quite spacious.
- Steve (10/5): Great B&B with friendly owners! - Stayed 5 nights in the lovely hotel (B&B). The owner cooked a great breakfast and the room was nicely decorated. The bathroom and fixtures were beautiful. The bed was very confortable and supported my back nicely.
- Michael (10/5): A Wonderful Florentine Experience - March 2015. We arrived early, via train from Rome. Hoping to be able to store our bags in the hotel, we were instead welcomed and allowed to check in early. A spontaneous, friendly conversation followed, during which we were given directions and tips, a free map, and access to our room. Basically, the most friendly check-in experience ever. The room was very large and extremely clean. The room was made up daily. The "minibar" (fridge) was stocked with drinks and snacks (at grocery store prices.) Breakfast was simple but delicious. The staff arranged for our airport cab on the last day of our stay. It was a perfect hotel experience and I would recommend Panella's Residence to anyone looking for a Florence Hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic B&B - This is a very average B&B with basic accommodation. Room furniture is sparse without drawers to store clothes,no shelves in bathroom etc. Room 42 through Hotels.com has NO window - just a door into a open air service passage with meters , hose etc. consequently the room is dark and dismal. Leaving the door open invites mosquitoes (as we found to our cost)and so has no natural ventilation. Hostess Graziella is helpful in providing reservations etc. Breakfast is very basic with no choice of fruit, cheese, meat, bread etc and was the same every day. The accommodation is fairly good for access to sights of the city although not amongst a lot of good eating places. For the price being charged a hotel with more amenities would be a better option.
- Joanne (10/5): Great location very clean and comfortable - Perfect spot to see all of Florence on foot everything is in walking distance. Graziella our hostess was amazing so friendly and helpful. She booked tickets for us pointed out all of the key sights and how to get there and recommended and excellent restaurant.
- Carolyn (10/5): GREAT COZY ROOM! - ROOM 45 - LARGE AND VERY QUIET. NICE AND CLEAN. GREAT SHOWER AND HAIR DRYER. MS. PANELLA IS ADORABLE - SUPER HELPFUL AND KIND. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent stay. Our hostess took the time to make us reservations for 2 galleries so that we could avoid long lines. Breakfast was superb with a good variety, homemade pastry and cappuccinos made to order. Very pleasant overall.
- B. Davis (10/5): Unique hotel - Beautiful room, enormous bathroom. Owner really friendly and helpful. Fantastic 5 days spent here, would highly recommend Panella Residence.
