• Verified traveler (10/5): - The people were really nice and the location was excellent, great view, very clean room and bathroom. Only slightly odd thing was that the double bed was two single mattresses put together.
• Atahualpa (10/5): Great stay in the city center - Really friendly staff who made us feel welcomed during our stay. The hotel is nice and our room was very spacious and had a great view of Gioto's bell tower. Just take in account that it's in an old building, so there is no lift, but its only a couple of flights of stairs.

• Alysia (10/5): Great location, very clean - We loved our stay here and would stay again if we ever came back to Florence. The location was perfect. It was easy to find and walk to from the train station, the duomo is literally just down the road. There are shops/markets/supermarket all close by. We didn't take any public transport and walked everywhere, it was great. We went for the shared bathroom option but also having our own sink in our room which I would suggest if you are going for the shared bathroom option. The room was big and very clean. The shared bathroom was clean and didn't really have to wait much for it to be available. After reading the reviews we were prepared to expect: no wifi (we had data on our phone anyway), no air con but there is a fan which was fine for us (we stayed in August and it was hot), lots of stairs to get up and take your suitcase, 1am curfew, no tv but we were hardly there, some noise from the street but to be expected being that close in the city, you have to pay cash and hand the keys to her when you leave each day but we found this safe, they have cameras around as well so felt safe being here. I'd recommend this place!
• svetlana (10/5): at the heart of historic Florence - Great location: Duomo is just around the corner, less than 10min walk to train station, 5-7 min to Accademia, Palazzo Vechio, Ufizzi. Safe neighborhood, super clean hotel and room! I walked barefooted-- it is so clean! Shared bathroom was not a problem, never crowded, never a line (one BR for 3 rooms). Shower cabin is small, but on the 3rd day you get used to it!Towels and soap/shower gel provided. 1am curfew didn't bother me. What I would really appreciate: WiFi and coffee maker in the room ( lack of those 2 things was somewhat uncomfortable). However, there is WIFI just downstairs next door restaurant and nice coffee shop just across the street at the corner. Overall, nice place!

• lynda & Ray (8/5): Florence Travels - Admittedly my wife and l were somewhat apprehensive as we ascended 2 flights of concrete stairs although it went away as we entered the common area and we're greeted by a very welcoming host. We immediately noticed that our room and it's bathroom were a good size and very clean. In terms of a Pensione this hotel is excellent. It is located in the heart of the tourist area. My wish list would be for the management to install a quality WiFi system as even data access is very poor within the hotel. Some travelers may prefer TVS in the rooms.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Not if you like to sleep - Location is great, right around the corner from the Duomo, BUT noisy ALL night long with restaurants and drunks in the street to all hours. The first night they also decided to pump septic tanks all along the street starting at 4 AM. Smell and noise was atrocious.
• Max (8/5): Excellent stay - Hostess was wonderful, frendly and always ready to help. Prime location, downtown, just few meters from Duomo. We got a room with private bathroom recently renovated. The room was recently painted and had a window facing an internal mini-court, very quiet. The room was spacious but sparsly furnished. Shower drain did not work well. Overall and excellent stay.
• Jan (8/5): - We had a very nice stay in Florence. The woman who ran the Hotel was nice enough but a very controlling person. She ran it more like a kid hostel. You had to buzz to get in, give your key to her to leave. If you wanted to come and go you felt as if it was a big bother to her. She was a bit irritable.
• Lisa (2/5): Daycare for adults! - This was legitimately the closest experience to jail I ever had. There is a 1 am curfew which if you don't meet, you sleep on the street. You aren't allowed to take your key outside, so why even issue keys if they are taken the second youn walk outside. The room smelt putrid and was drab and uncomfortable. But the real kicker...NO WIFI. I don't know how it's possible but there was no wifi which made planning a nightmare. The owner spends her time monitoring the activities of every guest which I might add was only one other person, but offers no real services. Spend a little extra and book elsewhere it will change the way you see Florence. This place drains energy.

• Elizabeth (8/5): Clean, inexpensive, central nightlife. - The room was the cleanest I've ever stayed in. The location is great because it is right by the duomo so you are close to everything but it is very noisy. People waking the streets all hours of the night and shops start opening at 6/7am so very little actual quiet time (4 hours max). Andrea was wonderful, very sweet. I was not aware there was a curfew so that was a bit surprising, and there are restricted hours on when you can use the shared shower. Other than that our stay was great. Again I can't stress how CLEAN this place was! If you want to be right in the action, you can't beat Hotel Pensione Canada do location and price!

• Edel (4/5): Not friendly! - Lady working there is not at all accommodating and would leave you out on the streets if it suited her. Very awkward system of having to leave your key and buzz back in each time. You are at her mercy.

• Leo and Carol (8/5): Fantastic location, clean and safe - Very secure location right near all tourist attractions. Easy walk from train station (10 minutes). Easy walk to Uffuzi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio etc. Two issues: there is no Wi-fi and the street below is noisy. The shutters don't completely block out the noise and my husband had to resort to earplugs. Florence has wi-fi available near tourist sites but I wanted it in the hotel and was disappointed they didn't have it.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Broken suitcase lock - The only thing that I could say about pensione Canada, is that someone broke one of the suitcase lock, and stole some souvenirs, and also a memory card with some memories of our travel in Europe. I share my trip photos because I don't have.
• Matt (10/5): Perfect Location - For this price in the centre of everything, you really can't complain. It's a 15 minute walk from the SMN station, 2 minutes from the Duomo and approximately 25-30 minutes stroll to the Boboli Gardens. I couldn't fault the place. Very friendly staff (there's a 1am curfew). Don't forget that you pay when you arrive in cash, which is something we completely forgot to budget for but there's plenty of ATMs around the corner. As a side note, the restaurant downstairs is pretty good. Stay away from eating at the main squares as they're very pricey with below average food. It's much more pleasant to walk for 10-15 minutes away from the main tourist traps and try a random restaurant that the locals seem to like. Half the price and ridiculously good food!
• James (10/5): fantastic! - Great hotel, room was spotless and very comfy bed. Bang in the centre right near the cathedral, and the hostess was super helpful and friendly! I would highly recommend this place, and would definitely return if I came back to Florence.
• Jennie (10/5): Character property, seconds away from The Duomo - We loved our stay at the Pensione Canada, the lady who greeted us was by far the most welcoming and friendly person we met on our entire trip, she also spoke perfect English. The property is just around the corner from the main square, where The Duomo is situated, so the location is perfect: even though it was right in the centre we found the noise level to be fine late at night. It wasn't apparent at first where the hotel was located as it is a busy street, but there was a sign next to the main door with a buzzer. The room itself was clean, comfortable and the bathroom was modern, there was a lot of character in the building too, with the traditional shutter windows in our room overlooking The Duomo. It is worth mentioning there is a curfew of 1am, which we didn't find to be a problem. We will definitely stay here again!

• Verified traveler (4/5): If you can afford it, avoid this place. - If you are going to book this hotel, please make sure to read the fine print. There is no AC in the room, there is no elevator, no internet and they don't take credit cards. There is a 1am curfew and every time you leave you must leave your keys, so the host always knows when you are away. In the summer it can get really hot, and the rooms get uncomfortably warm. The reception is on the 3rd floor and its inconvenient if you have many suitcases because there are not elevators.

No wifi was a bummer, but the location of this place is incredible and worth the money. Right in the middle of central Florence and a short walking distance from any of the big sights. • Verified traveler (2/5): Dancing with mosquitos in Florence - No air condition, no elevator, no window screen so be prepared to get eaten alive by mosquitos if you're staying during the summer. Front door hidden by scaffold and orange construction tarp, not easy to find the place in the middle of a very busy street. Need to ring the door bell and wait to get buzzed in. Be prepared to climb up 3 very long flights of stairs. Old European buildings have very tall ceilings so 3 flights is more like 5 flights of stairs in modern buildings. The shared shower stall in the hallway is very very small and does not drain well so it tend to get flooded if your like to shower for more than 2 minutes. No wi-fi and you must be back to the facility before 1 AM or you will not be let in.

This hotel has a curfew at 1 AM,written somewhere in additional information which really annoyed me when I found it out after i had already booked it and was already in the Hotel. Just Imagine that you stay over the weekend in a live touristic city and like Cinderella you should be worried and checking your watch all the time for not being ended homeless while you are paying 75 euros per night only for sleeping in fact. No breakfast,no Wifi,shared toilet and not even a simple glass for drinking water they could provide me so I could make my daily vitamin with my own water!there was not one in the shower either.Also I never understood why they do not give the key to customers and every time you have to leave the key to the reception and so you had to be back before 1A.M. Except the location which is very central( Very crowded and noisy too in fact) ,and also clean rooms, I think it is very expensive for 70-80 euros per night. Remember two floors long stairs and no elevator either,and I was lucky that a nice guest helped me half way up otherwise nobody from the hotel will give you a hand if your luggage is big and you are alone and not so strong.

• Nathan (6/5): Location makes up for the lack of ammenities - This hotel was very close to the main part of Florence. It was really convenient in that regard. The bathroom for some rooms is shared, so bring slippers! There is a small sink that runs cold water in each room though, as far as I'm aware. There is also no wi-fi available. There is also a "curfew" (1am, I think...I'm not sure what the earliest you can leave in the morning is though) since you have to leave your room key with the hotel whenever you leave and you have to ring up to be let back in. We would recommend this hotel if location and price is more important to you than ammenitites.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Small hotel in the heart of Florence - We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The tenant is really nice and helpful. The location amazing! The rooms are very basic, but comes with towels and shampoo. This neighbourhood is not particularly noisy, but you might get waken up by some drunk tourists since the windows are old and not that insulated. Our private bathroom was on the other side of the hotel, which was a bit disturbing.

The ONLY issue was that we had a room facing a pedestrian road and the noise from revellers went on nearly all night; this was followed early in the morning by the noise of the souvenir trolleys on the cobblestones... The property also has rooms facing a quiet courtyard - they would be ideal.
• Sarah (10/5): A gem! Great location, clean rooms, welcoming host - Great find. I stumbled upon this hotel looking for a last minute booking as my hotel was overbooked. I am SO happy that I find Pensione Canada. The place was so perfectly located (close enough to walk from the train station & right smack in front of the Duomo and a block away from the Mercato). The host was super friendly and kind. We had a shared bathroom but did not ever notice anyone else using it, and the room was big and clean with big windows. No wifi or breakfast, but lots of places around the city have wifi for free and an italian breakfast of capuccino and croissant at any cafe are only a few Euros. Would definitely recommend!

• Al (6/5): Hotel in the centre of Florence - The hotel was easy to find, but make sure that you have cash to pay with when you get there. We didn't have cash and only managed to pay with a credit card because we stood our ground when the lady who welcomed us in continually said that we had to pay in cash. Once she relented and said that we could pay by credit card, we also had to pay a city tax which again was paid in cash. Our room was spartan but was kept clean, no TV and we had to share a bathroom which became highly annoying when other guests were constantly using it. Otherwise our stay was enjoyable. We had a room that did not face out onto the street, which was quite noisy up until midnight.

• Verified traveler (6/5): Great location but a few negatives to be aware of. - Location was excellent and easy to find however there were a few downsides. There was no wi-fi. We weren't alowed to pay on card. You have to hand your keys in every time you leave the hotel and we were made to feel intrusive every time we had to ring the buzzer and wait to be let back in. There is a curfew at 1am which was a shame as we ate late and had a drink then had to go straight back. All that being said the room/bathroom was spotless and the location was excellent.

She takes pride in the cleanliness and operation of the hotel. This place is great value. We actually statyed here nearly 2-years ago and when returning to Florence this trip we didn't hesitate to re-book here.

• Bex (4/5): I don't trust the woman - Not a good experience. Seemed like a quick money set up to me. I booked using a credit card number as a hold on the booking. I changed banks and that number was not valid anymore. I emailed her to notify her and never heard back so presumed she knew and it was not a problem. Soooooo..... When we arrived, she was waiting at the top for me like a strict head mistress and I was a naughty schoolgirl. Told me off for non valid card, not emailing her to let her know and that she has not held the booking for me. When I proved I sent the email and I went thru hen she changed and said I was meant to email Expedia. And it wasn't her problem. Then, she started to be all nice and find a room for us... But off course it was more expensive as it was last minute!! Much to her advantage. I van understand to a certain degree the predicament, but If there was such a problem why couldn't she have emailed me????? She knew of the situation and knew I was coming as our names were written down on her arrivals card. Next, was as mentioned on here, as obviously done in Florence, you have to leave keys in lounge room on table, so if I wanted to I could have gone into anyone's room and taken anything I wanted!! If keys have to be left, she should keep them safe! Not mentioned on site so ok.... But no WIFI so don think you'll strike it lucky. Rooms are nice, but very basic no air con, very hot in July! Overall very unnerving vibe. Quite awkward.
• Andy Pitt (8/5): Close to The Cathedral and Giotto's Tower - The hotel is on the third floor of an old building. If you have heavy bags, it is a struggle to get up the stairs. We had a private bathroom, which was a separate bathroom accessed by key from outside our room, which meant we had to be dressed to go to the bathroom. Other than these quirks, the hotel is spotless, the lady at reception was very friendly and helpful and you could not get a better location, 10 minute easy walk to the station, close to all the major attractions and lots of good local restaurants. Recommended!
• Tiff (10/5): A fabulous surprise! - Due to the price we really weren't expecting too much, which was fine for us as we simply wanted a clean and comfortable base to use for our exploring of Florence and the surrounding area. It literally took us only a few minutes to walk from the Florence train station to the property, which is located just off the Duomo square so a great central location in the heart of Florence! When we stepped inside the property it was so lovely and quiet - and clean! Donatelli, the beautiful host, was personable and lovely, checking us into our room quickly and with such a lovely way about her that we felt right at home straight away. When we walked through the communal sitting area with lounges and reading books, we went down a tiled corridor past our bathroom that we only shared with 3 other rooms. When we opened the door to our room we were met with a massive sized room complete with enough bedding for 4 people even though we only needed the one double bed and we had 2 big windows that had views to the top of the Duomo - fab! We had a wardrobe, wash basin and bideau in our room too. On one particular night we were delayed in getting back to the property as we made a mistake with the return train times from Cinque Terra so didn't arrive back until 3am and Donatelli was genuinely worried about us on our return as we'd generally been back in our room by 11pm on each of the nights of our stay - was so nice to have her genuinely caring about us. Property was immaculately clean and wonderful

The room is basic and clean (no breakfast). Due to its central location, I expected a good bit of street noise, but the windows effectively block out noise. I would certainly stay here again.

However the staff are rude couldn't understand why I didn't want to leave the key in the hotel on a table in the lobby.. Argued with us went we thought breakfast was included (we could of been wrong, but we thought that we had ordered ticked the breakfast box when booking)

I think she tried to be quite specific in the write up on this website to avoid people having incorrect expectations, so do yourself a favour and make sure you read it fully. In our experience, street noise was a problem. We fell asleep well enough, but around 5:30-6 in the morning the noise was enough to wake us up and keep us up. Another problem was that my girlfriend couldn't get the shared toilet to flush. The staff told us that a lot of people have this problem. Our last problem was actually our first problem - we had a hard time finding the place. If Google maps hadn't been so accurate we could have walked past it a dozen times without finding it. The sign is hidden amongst stores and restaurants, and there are pushy street vendors in the area so it is a bit of a pain taking your time. On the positive side, the lady is super nice, the hotel is really quick to get to from the train station, it was handy to have a sink in the bedroom, and the basilica right near by is a really great area both for food and evening wandering.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Fantastic location for all of Florence highlights. - The Duomo, Uffizi Gallery, Accadameia, train station and restaurants, shops and more are all on the doorstep, within 10 minutes or less, of this charming pensione in the centre of town. The owner is sweet, like the Italian mother you never had, and couldn't be more helpful. Whilst the accommodation certainly does not purport to be a full hotel offering, it is personal, authentic and warm in character. It is also spotlessly clean. Be sure to remember to ask for a private bathroom if you do not wish to share. A safety deposit box would have been a most helpful addition.

• R (8/5): Nice simple hotel, couldn't have a better location - Staff were amazingly friendly. Hotel was cleanest I've stayed in. Simple and plain furnishings were nice. Best of all is its location, 30 seconds from the cathedral - but this does mean you hear the bells from 7am!
• Gary R (4/5): Disappointed - No parking or wi-fi. Very noisy neighborhood from late partiers at night to early morning street cleaners and food delivery trucks. Front doors are locked from 1:00am to 6am so you have a curfew. Very small rooms. Very disappointed and did not feel comfortable at all here.
• Volha (6/5): Quite nice if you don't expect too much - The hotel is nice especially due to the place of staying, it situates in 2-min walk from the main attraction- basilica santa maria del fiore. The room was clean and white, also spacious and accurate. The negative fact was about the bathroom: it's only one for 3 rooms (or more?) and there were problems with water. In the evenings there might not be hot water at all or then it might appeared but with the awful pressure. Woman on the reception didn't want to help in solving the problem and even shouted in the response. Was quite unpleasant situation! Also take in account that the Pension closes at 1 a.m. and each time you are entering there you will be warned "to be Quite". Just don't expect to much from this place and you will have a great time in Florence.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel great location but noisy and no interne - Very good hotel if you are staying a couple of says. The staff very friendly. Lots of security. The disadvantages are: no elevator, very noisy and no Internet.
• Kate (10/5): Don't let the stairs scare you - When we walked in, my boyfriend was extremely concerned about what I had booked. The stairs weren't well light and could use a paint job. However, the place itself was in great condition, and the woman who runs it is a gem. It was clean and very nice for young people on a budget. Located close to the Duomo! It was great!
• Yesenia (8/5): Recommended - Excellent location. Clean and comfortable room. Only negative comment is that owner wouldn't accept credit card. At the end it wasn't a problem since I was carrying enough cash; however, it should be indicated prior to reservation.
• Austravellers (8/5): Great Location - This place was abit of a surprise we weren't expecting a great deal. But this place was tidy and in a great location. The room got cleaned daily. It's like just around the corner from the main dome. It's one places were you have to leave your key behind when you go out. But that's good i guess cause no risk of loosing it.
• TB (6/5): somewhat disappointed - First the place was very clean. We had a room in the front, where noise was an issue. Other problem was having to cross the lobby to get to the bathroom. In the morning in-coming guest could be in the reception area. Finally another negative was that the place did not feel comfortable to us. We felt like we were imposing on the owner when coming and going.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Inexpensive but spartan - Bathroom is shared with other guests, no glass on room lavatory. Minimal beds. No elevator, about 100 steep steps to the entrance: no good for seniors. Kind but primitive reception.
• Treen (6/5): DO NOT take street-side room! - After a regrettable mixup with our reservation, we ended up staying two nights rather than three at Pensione Canada. Our room was big and lovely; high ceilings, great bathroom. The location is great, right by the Duomo. BUT you probably won't get a good night's rest if your room has windows looking down on Borgo Lorenzo. Busy touristy street. The bells at the Duomo start at 7a.m. And on top of that -- and this isn't the pensione's fault -- workers were literally tearing up the street with jackhammers starting before 7am during our stay. If we could be guaranteed a room OFF the street, I would certainly recommend this place, but at least four room face the street. Be sure to inquire.
• isabela (6/5): good location, great value, very clean - The location is superb, only a minute from the Duomo. The hotel is extremely clean, probably the cleanest bathroom in all of Europe! The rooms are nice and big. We had a shared bathroom but our room had a private shower and a bidet. Our room also had a small armoire and a small table with two chairs. We never ran into any problems with the shared bathroom. I went in September when it wasn't that hot at night so the fan was all we needed. As people mentioned you have to turn in your key every time you leave which we thought was weird and were turned off a bit but then when we stayed in Venice the hotel there had the same process so maybe its just what the smaller hotels do... The lady was easy to find. We never waited more than a few minutes to turn in the key. She was quick in getting you buzzed into the building. The street below is a bit loud so keep that in mind if you like to sleep with the window open. We felt safe walking back to our hotel in the evening (10-11pm ish ). She also has a 1am curfew which might be a problem for some. There is no wi-fi which we really needed. You also have to pay in cash. There's no tv. The price was excellent. We booked over expedia. Its a good 10-15 minute walk from the SMN train station. I walked there several times so who ever says its 5 minutes away is either a super fast walker or took a taxi. the front door is located next to a restaurant and so the small sign is hidden. we walked up and down the street several times before seeing it.
• matteo (6/5): super downtown! - great location, good value for money, nice personnel, only we had a problem with an online booking of a friend of mine which was not handled so nicely and politely, but after that the employee was very nice and available to all our needs; old building but restored inside, with good and well cleaned rooms...
• Steve (6/5): Nice room, but street rooms are very noisy - The pension was well equipped and had many good points. The two downsides were a) I didn't realise that I'd booked somewhere that did not provide breakfast and b) the bedrooms on the street side can be incredibly noisy. Our first night was a Friday and the noisy drunks rolling down the street made it impossible to sleep until around 3 am. There was then a short break until the street cleaners got going. The next two nights were much better. If you're not a heavy sleeper prepare with a lot of wine!
• Jim&Ann (8/5): Great Location - Great place & location. Safe if home late. Clean & tidy. They do your room every day. Central to everything. Market one minute away. Drawbacks. No WiFi at the moment but told on the agenda. surrounding establishments have it now. We enjoyed our stay regardless.
• Maggie (8/5): Right in the midst of numerous Florence highlights - Enjoyed the spacious room. Knew we needed to share a bathroom but the bathroom was a good size with shower basin and bidet! So not sure why a toilet had not been put in instead. Crisp, fresh linen.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Very clean room in great location - This place is very nice to stay in, as long as you know beforehand a couple of things - curfew of 1am, no tv, no wifi and key has to be given to owner each time you leave. The place is very clean and in a great location. Free wifi is available right outside the door in the street of the hotel, just not inside. I liked the owner and found her very hospitable. I enjoyed my and would stay again :)
• Shaz (10/5): Excellent host, central location, incredible value - We stayed there for three nights and couldn't have been happier! The host was lovely and very informative. Only 2 minutes from the Duomo and five from the main train station. Highly recommend.
• AM (8/5): Great hotel in the heart of Florence - Pensione Canada was a great Hotel just by the Duomo and the other turist attractions. Rooms were big and very clean, staff was friendly and helpfull. Restaurants are just in the doorstep. The only downside with this hotel is that there is no night staff so it closes for the night at 1am but after doing a lot of turist and museums during the day that wasn't much of a problem.
• Laurindo Sousa (10/5): Superb!!! - There was a bit of steps to get to the hotel's reception but it was soon forgotten when we stepped in!! It was beautiful and the lady who welcomed us was simply adorable!! The hotel is in the heart of the town, just minutes walking distance to all touristic attractions and train station! Room was amazing, big and very comfortable too!!
• Dassr (2/5): Misleading reviews - Firstly, we had sent an email weeks before we came saying we were to come by earlier to drop off our bags, since check-in was much later however this was never even taken into account by the hotel. The place is very hard to find, tiny small sign, we didn't know if the doorbell was working, so rang twice. As soon as we got up (using 4 flights of steep steps) we got told off by the lady at the hotel, for ringing twice. Once in, we were asked to leave our bags outside the hotel in the stairway case, where anyone could have taken them. Next we needed to change into some longer pants as we were visiting churches, however were not allowed to use any bathrooms (even though we were going to stay and pay for tat hotel later anyway), as another lady told us off and told us to go to public bathrooms in the city. Later on the day, we were leaving, and had to leave our keys with the desk. At the bottom there was a nice couple asking us about the hotel, we said all good things, what we didn't know was the lady was eavesdropping on us upstairs, and later when we got back got a telling off for telling people about the hotel (even though they have a website for the WORLD to see anyway). The reviews on the website are very misleading, if you enjoy being treated like a kid, and getting told off then by all means go ahead. Our experience was awful, we backed up our bags, paid the amount due and left the place. On the other hand Florence is a wonderful city, and the hotel is very clean.
• Anna (10/5): Excellent location and staff - Pensione Canada is a lovely guest house type hotel in the centre of Florence. The location is perfect for exploring Florence by foot, there are plenty of great places to eat near by, as well as great shops and markets. Our room was a great size and opened up to a private courtyard. We booked a room with a private bathroom which was beautiful. The lady who runs the hotel was brilliant, incredibly helpful and friendly, and always welcomed us with a smile. Great cost appropriate hotel right in the centre of town.
• Geordie Girls (8/5): Great Location - Where the hotel is situated is central for everything you wish to see. The Doume is just around the corner from the hotel. The train station is within easy walking distance from the Hotel. We initially booked a room with a private bathroom but unfortunately when we arrived we were told that because of plumbing problems we would be staying in a room without a toilet. The toilet was quite a distance from our room on the other side of the hotel ok during the day but not very convenient in the middle of the night. We were told that we must hand the key to the room to the lady everytime we left the hotel and that we needed to buzz the main door everytime we wanted back into the hotel . My friend and I personally found this a bit inconvenient if we wanted just to pop out for five minutes to get something from the shops below us (The previous hotel we stayed in Rome was the complete opposite where we were entrusted with a set of four keys for the front door, bedroom door, kitchen and toilet! ).The room we stayed in was big enough for the two of us and very clean but very bare, there was no soap or shampoo in the shower room. Maybe if there had been a picture or two on the walls and a mirror in the room it wouldn't have felt so sparse. To get to the Hotel Reception once you have gain entrance from the main street you have to climb three sets of steep steps which my friend and I found very trying and exhausting when we first arrived with our suitcases.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Nice but exterior rooms are too loud - The pension was very nice and clean and the owner was very friendly. The location is amazing - right between San Lorenzo and the Duomo. It is a 15 minute walk from the train station. We had an amazing meal at La Cantinetta a few doors down. We booked one of the cheaper rooms with a communal bathroom. We had to walk through the reception area to get to the bathroom which felt a little uncomfortable. Additionally, the street outside our window (Borgo San Lorenzo) has apparently become a main thoroughfare for intoxicated American students. The noise they produced was shocking and constant throughout the night - and this was on a Thursday night, so I can't imagine how loud it can be on a Friday and Saturday. In the future I would consider staying here, but only if I booked a more expensive interior room with a private bathroom.
• Julie (8/5): Excellent location on a budget! - This is wonderful option for the budget conscious traveller in Florence who doesnt want to compromise location. We walked EVERYWHERE with ease. The hotel is on a street with loads of shopping and restaurants but isn't loud (aside from the church clock in the AM!). We walked right out into the energetic streets everyday and loved it. The Duomo is very close as well as walking distance to the academia, the river, santa croce, the train station, SMN church, ponte vecchio. Tina was extremely attentive, helpful and very warm. What a great experience we had. We elected for a private bathroom which was right outside our door. The room was spacious and i felt safe in the hotel (good security). The room was bright with a beautiful window into a little courtyard. We also did a wine tour that Tina assisted us in booking and we were extremely thankful as it was not as easy to do on our own as we had hoped. I would happily stay here again!
