- Tucker (10/5): - This place was great! Pretty centrally located for all the tours, about a 15 minute walk to anywhere you want to go. Staff was excellent! So helpful wherever I needed help or just had questions about Florence. Nice little breakfast area so you can have coffee and a baked good. Only downside was no elevator and it’s on the third floor so there’s stairs but what can you expect from a build built in the 1600s. If I ever come back this will be the hotel for me
- Suzanne (8/5): - The staff were super helpful and informative. You really need to know that the three flights of stairs with no lift is hard work with a suitcase! Staff did offer but we thought we’d be okay (we made it but only just)! I’d only put one guest on the booking by mistake but luckily they could accommodate us both and didn’t charge any extra. So helpful and gave us lots of tips about where was safe and the main attractions. The room itself is basic but it’s good for a base to get your head down. The roof terrace (up more steps) is small but has a fantastic view.

- Candace (10/5): Perfect location! - Although there was no hot water (an issue they were working on), as we were only booked in for two nights we chose to stay even though they offered us to cancel with no penalty. Honestly it was so hot out that a cool shower was perfect anyway. The staff were so kind, friendly and helpful that I would recommend staying here to anyone. Secondary, the location is absolutely perfect. Close to everything you’d want to see.

- BiankaHain (8/5): Great location - Great location and a safe, reliable choice for solo travelers. Everything is within walking distance, with the Duomo less than 10 minutes away. There’s also a bus stop right in front of the hotel, and the train station is about a 20-minute walk. Getting there from the airport was easy too – the express train is simple to find and use. I did have a bit of trouble finding the hotel itself at first, as the signage (red text on a clear background) isn't the most visible – especially if you're a bit directionally challenged like me. Once inside, though, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and my room was clean and comfortable. There’s coffee, juice, and water available 24/7, but don’t expect a full breakfast – just a croissant or cookie. Also good to know: there are around 70 stone steps to get up to the hotel level, so packing light is a good idea!

The location is right in the historic district so most historic landmarks and shopping are easily within a 15-20 minute walk. It’s also similar distance to the train station. There are quite a bit of stairs and no elevator, but you are staying in a historic building, so we understood this. The rooms are somewhat dated and the colour scheme could use an update, but again, it’s a historic building and we weren’t there to see the colour scheme of the hotel room. The 360 degree, unobstructed view from the rooftop terrace, was phenomenal. It was the best place to have a nightcap at end our day!

Well appointed with juice, water and cookies plus coffee machine available until 10 pm Staff helped get huge bags to the third floor. Definitely call ahead, but treated us like family.

- Meander27397146047 (2/5): Moldy bathroom - Unfortunately, this hotel was disappointing.. so much so that we ended up booking a different hotel within an hour of checking in and took a loss on the cost since our stay was non refundable. While the location was convenient and the staff were very courteous, the cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired. Most concerning was the visible mold in the bathroom. I hope management takes steps to address these issues for future guests, especially given the price point of the hotel.

- justino774 (6/5): Cons outweigh pros, especially if you need a quiet place to sleep. - Hmm 🤔 Cardinal is a toss up, and I don't plan on staying there again. The location seems great for the Duomo. But the hotel wasn't quiet to let us sleep well. Cardinal is next to a late night bar, and very young bar clients were so loud that they woke us up each night despite closing the windows. 😒 The seemingly quant street in the daytime turns into a teenage hangout at nighttime. (Italians start drinking earlier.) That'd be OK but the hotel room walls were also paper thin. My hearing isn't supersonic, yet we were woken up to our neighbors both nights.🙉 I heard their gossip, and endured listening to their screaming, bed squeaking intimacy 😯🤫 Anyways, the staff is super friendly! And the rooftop terrace is great to sit with a glass and quietly take in Florence. 👌 The shower water was hot, but my mother would gag at the buildup of dirt in the seams. There is no breakfast, no bar, and the coffee machine is mediocare compared to Italian espresso. So there's not much to offer guests for the price. I *could* overlook the cons if I had gotten a good night's rest! Isn't that the point of hotels?! So the cons outweigh the pros. ⚖️

- Dr Nicholas (6/5): - The hotel was very disappointing, it was on the third floor of the building with no lift access. The entrance was dimly lit and the staircase narrow and gloomy.. There are no staff present over night from 2200-0800. This meant checking out with no receptionist. The room was small, furniture dated and my room was immediately next to the reception and main entrance 3 metres away. As a consequence, extremely noisy with people coming back late and the hotels answer was to provide earplugs! The air conditioning was temperamental. Extremely noisy bar and restaurant immediately below with lots of people sitting and drinking on the streets. I regret staying here, and would not recommend to others.

Free coffee and cookies in the morning! The only drawback is they are on the 3rd floor with no elevator so when you arrive with luggage it’s quite the slog.

- porchugeese (10/5): Greatest hospitality we experienced - Thing that stood out for us was the hospitality of the staff. The front desk people were so warm and welcoming. They helped us with our bags, booked us a taxi and helped us get the bags to the taxi while it was raining (they even refused a tip when I offered for helping us in the rain). Taxis dont stop right at the front entrance of the hotel. They served us with some water and welcome bottle of champaign. The coffee machines they have had good coffee along with some pastries to start off the day before a bigger breakfast. The rooftop was awesome! There was a grocery store nearby and we brought a bottle of wine from there and had it as the rooftop. This was the least star rating hotel we stayed at while in Italy (other hotels we stayed at were 4 stars) but we had the best experience staying here. Would definitely recommend others to stay here! I loved them!

- Kyle (10/5): - This isn’t a luxury hotel. It’s a comfortable, small hotel with extraordinarily kind staff who really want you to enjoy Florence. If you are looking for authenticity you will be surrounded by small bars, cafes and restaurants run by actual Florentines - and you will probably have a better time than if you stayed in someplace that cost twice as much. We loved every minute of it - and particularly the staff, who were wonderful.
- juliesD2317JQ (10/5): A great place to stay with beautiful roof top terrace - We loved our stay at the Cardinal and would definitely stay here again. The staff were so friendly and helpful. On our arrival they gave us a map and all the info we needed to make our stay perfect. The location is excellent. Room was spacious and bathroom was great. A highlight was the roof top balcony which we used every evening. Beautiful panoramic views of Florence and a perfect place to have a drink and watch the sunset. Wi-Fi was a little sketchy but it did work. Complimentary water, juice, biscuits and croissants in the morning were a lovely touch! We will definitely be back :)

- Russ (4/5): Not good hotel but a nice location - The only reason I’m giving two stars is because the people were extremely kind and the location was wonderful. There are three very steep flights of stairs up to the hotel with no elevator. No in room, coffee or safe. There rooftop bar a great view but it is a joke. They kept saying that they had just reopened. We booked based on the ratings. It was terrible. With that said, the location was wonderful just off a little square with plenty of restaurants and wonderful coffees. It did not disappoint our trip. But it took everything we had not to move hotels. And by the way, it was nonrefundable so it would’ve been $2000 right now. I would advise you not stay here, especially if you’re older and the stairs are problematic.

The cord to the hair dryer had bare wires showing. The remote for the heat did not work properly. Staff really tried hard to make things fright but it was not possible. - stuartf266 (10/5): Great time staying at the Cardinal Hotel in Florence - We had a wonderful experience at the Cardinal Hotel in Florence! So, the reader knows this is from someone who stayed there, I can say right away that you have to walk up three flights of stairs to arrive at the hotel. It is also not the luxury hotel that many Americans want to have for their vacations, or if they have not traveled in Europe before. What I will say is that the staff who work there at the front desk and helping with the breakfasts are incredibly nice and always ready to help with advice on where to go or do in Florence. They will make reservations for you whether it is for a wine tour or a restaurant. The hotel is just a little off of the main tourist center but actually at the most fun part of the city where the restaurants are excellent and the local Florence residents eat. The neighborhood is very cool and fun and safe to walk in. The hotel is clean and the breakfasts are really good with a nice view. If your fellow hotel patrons are nice, meeting them in the morning is charming. The rooftop terrace is very pleasant with a super view. Finally, I will tell you that the hotel was told it was my birthday and had a cake with candles and the staff sang me Happy Birthday, where else does that happen. And by the way, after eating at the great restaurants in Florence every night, I welcomed the exercise going up the stairs.

They have the option to store your luggage if you arrive early and if you have a late flight out . The terrace is beautiful for photos. All three guys who rotated at reception in our short stay where very friendly and helpful. Rooms where clean and the AC was awesome for the hot weather .

If your booking like I did due to the photos, it’s a scam photography, 3 flights of very narrow steep stairs to get to the front desk. Avoid unless you want to be unpleasantly surprised. The best thing this hotel has going for it is prime location!

- Rodger (6/5): - Location, location, location…Hotel Cardinal is steps away from Duomo and easy walking distance to most of Florence’s major sights. There is a roof top terrace that provides a view of Florence. There are plenty of dining choices and shopping nearby. The staff are very helpful. The property is a three storey walk up with no lift available - not necessarily a bad thing unless you are mobility challenged then this property is not a good choice. The Bathroom has space enough for a larger shower - the tiny shower box installed is unacceptable for a hotel standard. The Toilet is crowded by the Vanity Sink. A rethink on Bathroom appliance arrangement is needed.

The bathroom was also very tiny where it was hard to dry off from the shower while trying to maneuver so you don’t hit the toilet and/or bidet. The staff were all extremely nice and helpful. The breakfast was all fine for our standards as we are not a huge breakfast family to begin with. Would be nice if we were able to get coffee earlier than 8 am or even later in the afternoon for free. Location was good and walkable. I am familiar with Florence so was able to find our way easily. Overall the hotel was fine for our stay but I would give another hotel a try next time
- Brian (10/5): - It is the most incredible boutique type hotel. The owner is amazing. He met us at the entrance and carried our bags to the room. He was there all day and night to help us and answer our questions. The room was great. It is so close to everything. Food, entertainment, the whole experience is just down the road. It’s a 20 euro cab ride from the train station. The mini bar is so cheap. 1 euro water, 3 euro beer. Just ask if you want more at front desk. Breakfast was amazing and only 8 euro. The rooftop is incredible, you can see the whole city. Grab a drink and just sit up there and see the amazing g city. End of our trip he carried out bags down, walked us to the street down the block and waited with us for a cab, loaded our luggage into the cab and wished us the best. We only stayed for two nights, but we should’ve stayed a week. If you’re looking for a place in Florence to be in the center of everything and have a wonderful experience with great people. This is the place to be.

- Jennifer (10/5): - It was in a great location, it was lively, especially in the evening but room was quiet. Building old, but to be expected and comfortable. Bed, space, bathroom all good. Rooftop terrace was a nice touch, and had a good continental breakfast. Staff very friendly and I would definitely stay here again if in Florence. It is on the third floor with no lift so not advised if you have difficulty with stairs. Very pleasant stay.

- Holly (8/5): Comfortable but dated - There was very little choice for our price range at the time of booking but we picked this hotel on the basis of it’s location, which didn’t disappoint. It’s a 20 min walk from the train station & the cathedral is just around the corner. We also had a lovely view from our room. The staff were lovely, welcoming & accommodating. The room was unfortunately very small & the decor very dated, but was comfortable enough. The fridge could have been less rammed with products that you had to pay for so that we could fit our own food and drinks in. Would definitely recommend getting a take away pizza from one of the many restaurants close by & enjoying it up on the roof terrace, views of Florence for days!

- Cecilia Alegria (6/5): - The hosts of this place were nice and kind but I think the name "hotel" seems not appropriate. I would call it "Bed&breakfast". The room and bathroom were very small and needed some painting. The exterior of the building was awful and you had to climb many narrow stairs to get to the small lobby. The TV didn't have channels in English and the coffee maker in the room didn't work. The hosts were very supportive and gave me breakfast to take away, gesture that I appreciated it.

- George Edward (10/5): - Hotel Cardinal was in an excellent location. The rooftop terrace was amszing with a great view. The staff on the desk (mateus, mario) were thoroughly helpful, polite and friendly. We cannot recommend the customer service in this hotel highly enough.

- Sara (8/5): - This hotel is in a quick walking distance to the Duomo and Academia Gallery and quick taxi to the train station. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. The downside is this hotel is on the third floor with no elevator. The rooftop patio is beautiful but up a very narrow flight of stairs. The rooms could definitely use a refresh.

- Simon (8/5): - The hotel is very close to all he attractions particularly the Duomo . All the staff were very helpful , especially Mario . The room was very spacious but the decor was a little dated . We found a number of good restaurants within a very short distance of the hotel . We loved Florence and also visited Pisa and Lucca . All in all a great trip .

- Victoria (4/5): Could have been a great stay - My husband and I spent 3 nights here as part of our honeymoon. On the night of our arrival, the most kind employee checked us in after hours and carried our bags up the many stairs. I wish I could remember his name, but he was wonderful! There was some construction during our stay, and someone in management gave us free drinks and apologized for the construction, even though it was not his fault and out of his control. We really liked these 2 staff members. However, the 3rd staff member we interacted with couldn’t have been more rude. On our final night the air conditioning was broken and the staff member gave us the most sarcastic apology. Then, during check out on October 1st, the same employee asked if we removed anything from the room and gave us a lecture on honesty even though we didn’t remove anything other than our own belongings. He also made a very large deal about the fact that we didn’t have cash to pay the city tax, which we weren’t told we would need. He lectured us about this as well and said it was the first time in 5 years someone paid by card. A real shame, because everyone else at the hotel couldn’t have been nicer.

- Isaac (8/5): - A very nice hotel, super well located, near all major touristic points in Florence. My only remark is the lack of an elevator to the hotel in the 3rd floor, but good exercise though.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Property is well located and walkable to all Florence has to offer. Staff is nice and very helpful. Breakfast was good. The room itself was very small and dated plus thin walls so I could hear the next door guest conversations. The hotel is on a 4 floor walk up so if you have big luggage or mobility issues avoid it. It is located in historic zone so if you’re driving don’t drive up to front door or police will ticket you. Instead have your car parked in a garage a block away. The roof top is much more impressive in the pictures and accessible only by a narrow stairway.

- Gabrielle (8/5): - Hotel Cardinal was exactly as advertised, clean and tidy with friendly staff. Room was functional and spacious (we got upgraded to a king bed as we were there 4 nights) but the best part was the rooftop terrace, where we spent all our time at the hotel except when we were sleeping or showering. With views I’d the Duomo and all surrounding area it was magnificent. Great for breakfast or a nightcap!

Like others mentioned, they did carry our bags up and then down the stairs. On Thursday nights, the street seems to be a college “hang out” but they don’t get loud- just crowded. The restaurant across the street is delicious too.

The rooftop terrace was a beautiful extra, the view is gorgeous and perfect to unwind after a long day. Just keep in mind that the hotel is located on top floor of a building with no elevator, so as long as you don't mind and are able to walk 3 flights of stairs then this is a great stay. (Also the staff WILL help you carry your luggage up and down the stairs) My mother and I would definitely stay here again!

The only drawback is that the hotel is on the third floor with no elevator; however, the staff is always eager to carry baggage up and down the steps.
