Guest Reviews
- Cara (10/5): - The front desk staff was so friendly and helpful! We enjoyed our stay!
- Julio (8/5): - Room was big and spacious of a family. Nice view of the theater.
- Daniel (6/5): Octoberfest - The room was not ready, however, overall cleanliness was average
- Alejandro (2/5): - There’s no photos of rooms for a reason. The room was large, cold, and outdated. The carpet smelled moldy and the room looked like it was from an abandoned building. The photos on the site are of the theatre next door—essentially false advertising. The staff didn’t help with anything, except for the night staff who helped the most with WiFi and things like that. Everyone else was indifferent or rude. Taking personal calls while keeping me waiting or suggesting I “google” the area instead of providing suggestions for where to get clothes cleaned. The accommodation was not accommodating. I’d have preferred a smaller, modern, clean room. As it was the building looked like it was abandoned not too long ago and the elevator was broken while I was there.
- Garret (10/5): - No complaints. One room for 4 people.
It was clean and tidy and suited us perfectly for Oktoberfest.
Not somewhere I would stay with family, but suited for this weekend.
The showerhead was broken so wouldn't stay in one place.
Only one of the 3 lights in the room worked.
- Jean-Matthieu (10/5): - The staff was very helpfull even whith a very late arrival becouse of the deutsche Bahn. The hotel is very well located.
- Jennifer (6/5): - The room was clean as was the bathroom. However we were put in a room with no curtains and had to hang a towel at the window. Reception did not seem surprised. It was conveniently close to the SBahn and Marienplatz
- Vaishnavi (2/5): - Bad experience overall
- Pamela (6/5): - Very noisy and hot.
- DANIEL (8/5): - Fine property, good staff, clean room.
The location worked for us but the area is busy and dirty (a little bit rough).
- Verified traveler (2/5): They Removed Google Reviews Lower 4 Stars! - Ignore their 4- and 5-star Google ratings. They submit ALL lower reviews to Google to be removed. I wrote a critical 2-star review because the street noise was VERY loud until 3am, the fan did not work, the elevator was very slow, and it was was VERY experience for what you get - and a month after our visit Google emailed me to let me know my review had been removed for “defamation”. There was nothing overly-critical or personal about the review.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect spot to take on the sites.
- Donna (4/5): - Really hard to get in to the first night. The lift was not accessible after 10 o’clock and only went to the fourth floor when we was on the fifth floor.
- Chante (8/5): - Decent location. The room was so incredibly hot without air conditioning. They did provide fans but it was still sleepless hot nights. It's a pretty busy location and definitely was noisy up to midnight. If we didn't have to have the windows open it would have been fine. The elevator was horrendous though - It only fits one person with luggage and may not fit you if your luggage is too heavy! It is also super close to the main train station which was great.
- Andrew (8/5): - Good hotel near train station
- Bridget (4/5): - Very tired old hotel. Can’t fault the cleanliness of the room but beds hard, had to sleep on another duvet to pad it out. No drink facilities in the room, nor downstairs until the morning when I could help myself to a hot drinks machine. No breakfast possibility either. Won’t be going back
- Randall (10/5): 4 day family vacation in Munich - The gentleman at check in was so very kind and gave us slot of information on the property. The hotel offered free coffee and tea each morning and had daily housekeeping with clean towels. In a good location easy walking distance to transports and food and coffee. I would recommend the location. Very nice people.
- tim (8/5): - Easy if you have travel from the Hauptbahnhof. The Deutsches theater is a kind of Broadway entertainment place so the few, non-Turkish options for dining at pricey. But if you walk 10 minutes, you'll be in other parts of town. This is kind of the red-light district, but safe and easy.
- Jonathan (6/5): - My room just smelt bad. Left window open both days and still bad.
Difficulty getting back in after 22:30hrs and when I phoned the telephone number, the rude man just said go round to side and turn the lock with small key and then just hung up. Couldn’t have cared less about who I was, who I was with. If I was older or a female, I would have been very worried.
A group of 5 other guests eventually managed to get in but none of us were told about this at check in.
Good location for Munich HBF.
Disappointing stay.
- David (4/5): - Good location. Very noisy when theater crowd is outside. Room is tiny. Furniture is shabby and not maintained. Pillows are abominable, totally unusable and an embarrassment to the hotel. You can probably do better...
- Raisa (6/5): - Room was good but no kettle etc and bathroom layout a bit strange with shower stepped up. And the glass doors did not shut properly on one side so water could spray out. I would not stay here again.
- charles (8/5): - This hotel has excellent location and close to main train station (5min walk). Nothing fancy but accommodation is clean and central. Staff friendly, helpful and speak English which was very important for me.
- Nina (8/5): - This hotel is old, put it's a diamond in the ruff, needs to remodel and change the carpets. This hotel has great potential and it's location is awesome. The theater is in the same square and it has shows during the week in the evenings.
- Mike (10/5): - Checked in after hours which was made easy by the very friendly staff. They erer very helpful and accommodating. Location was perfect and an easy walk to everything. Would definitely stay again.
- John (8/5): Good budget option - Brilliant location near centre and main train station. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good budget option.
- Wen (8/5): - Good
- Charlene (8/5): - Super location. Close to transportation, train station and tourist area. Comfortable beds and quiet rooms. Very economical for our two night stay.
- Monica (10/5): - The location is very accessible. It takes 5 min walk to the train station from where I took the train to the airport.
- Joselito (6/5): - Location is good but the property needs renovation.
They have good free coffee and tea in the morning.
- Amy (10/5): - The Hotel Deutsches Theater Downtown was perfect for our stay in Munich! It was within walking distance of the train station and many wonderful restaurants! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful when we needed extra towels, etc. and the room and bathroom were spacious. Not only did this room have four individual beds, but a desk and shelves with ample room for everything with lots of outlets! We will definitely stay here again when we come back to Munich!
- Georg (8/5): - VERY convenient to U-bahn & S-bahn
Also very walkable to Mareinplatz
- David (8/5): Deutsches Theatre Hotel -central Munich - The stay was short
The Reception Manager was a lovely gentleman and took time to explain every aspect of the property and some suggestions in Munich now and the future. He was also entertaing and had some anecdotal references
The room was large and the beds comfortable. The bathroom had a bath/ shower
Tea and coffee were available complementary in a dedicated lounge
The location was central , at The DeutscesTheatre and within a few minutes walk fron 2u/s Bahn stations , one serves the airport and the other is one stop from Marienplatz
- Rebecca (2/5): - This was a terrible stay. The surrounding area is the red light district, not appropriate for children. The hotel room was loud with sirens from the outside all night. We got absolutely no rest. The water in the shower was scolding hot or ice cold. Furniture was broken and had 4 single beds randomly thrown into a room for a reservation for one adult and one child. The staff did not say one word to us after check in, not even a goodbye when we left. There is no breakfast or restaurant option at the hotel. The maids left towels and vacuum outside our room door for us to climb over at entry and exit.
- Bo (8/5): - Good, but the room smells of cloak.
- HANNAH (6/5): - Hotel itself was ok but noisy and busy at night. Surrounding area felt rundown compared with other parts of the city.
- Cyrille Jean (8/5): - Good value for money for a thrifty stay. Clean and quaint.
- Ahad (10/5): - Overall the hotel is super to stay.
Location is near to main station and the old city centre but the surrounding areas are not so clean (super crowded and loud).
Rooms were good size, we stayed there with infant baby and had no problem.
They provided us with baby cot.
I would recommend the property for further stays
- Daniel (6/5): - Excellent hotel for the price and for the purpose of our stay.
- Thomas (10/5): - Great location between the train station and the Marianplatz.
- Geetha (4/5): - If only I could show the pictures I took of the room, one of the worst conditions I've stayed in for the amount I paid.
There was what looked like a pubic hair on the fresh towels laid out, heater didn't work for 2 nights, mold on the shower..the carpet was horrid and the lift only goes to the 4th floor and you have to lift your baggage up a flight of stairs. Incredibly upsetting when I told the front desk she was like just write in and we will see what we can do.. like how can you call yourself and hotel with hair on the towels and black mold on the shower area
- Julie (6/5): - The hotel was fine. But the area around it is bad. Not close to markets and stores. Would not stay here again.
- Randy (10/5): - The elevator is too small, but they make up for it by having spacious rooms and comfortable beds
- Jake (10/5): - This was a very good spot to stay for our Oktoberfest adventures. Service was top notch here. I have no complaints. I would gladly book and stay here again.
- Vardan (8/5): - Overall it wad a goodnstay
- Denise (8/5): Munich stay for Adele concert - Easy walk to the main train station. We used the hotel as just a base and not a destination in itself.
- Enkeleda (6/5): - The hotel was clean, but very old. No fridge, no AC. The area around was not the safest one.
- Olena (10/5): - Very good and nice hotel. In the middle of the city. Very convenient
- CANDY (10/5): - No air conditioning… Other than that, it was a great location… Near the train terminal and the downtown!
- ISAAC (6/5): - No air conditioning. Old carpet looks dirty. Location is very good Location. Houses keeping was very good and kept rooms clean.
- Horia (10/5): - Nice people!
- Amanda (10/5): - This is a charming hotel very close to the Munich old town. They were very kind and helpful. Would definitely stay again here if in the area.
- Marcia (6/5): - Uncomfortable surroundings. We believe that is a Munichwide problem. Loud demonstrations, suspect groups of unfriendly men.
The hotel and the restaurant sharing the courtyard with hotel was very nice.
- james (10/5): - Check in from the elderly gentleman was superb. Please pass on our gratitude
- Natalia (4/5): - Convenient location.
Very noisy at night; hair on the bed and toilet; cracked tiles in the bathroom; dirty carpet.
- Rich (10/5): - Stay was great!
- jolee (4/5): - Room very dated and needs a full renovation at hotel. Carpet very soiled and toilet did not flush well.
- Adam (8/5): - Nice simple convenience at a good price
- Janet (8/5): - Hotel in a very convenient area to train station and Old town. At night you need windiws open, and people were LOUD LOUD outside until 4-5 a.m. ( our room faced the main street). So plan accordingly. We got very sporadic small increments of sleep. Bed and pillows comfy/clean. Bathroom clean, bottom of shower is slick, so put a towel down inside without closing off the drain. I would stay again, but not facing the streetside. Easy check in, friendly staff. No coffee in room, but I think it was at the desk.
- Monica (10/5): - wonderful staff, great location within walking distance to many attractions and good restaurants. Free coffee and tea each morning!
- Monica (10/5): - Staff was very nice. Within an easy walk to city center and most attractions. Close to the train station and several dining options
- Matt (6/5): - Lots of construction, noisy, located downtown, parking is offsite.
- Aaron (10/5): - Even though the restaurant was closed, I can't complain because the price of the room was so cheap.
- Amit (10/5): - The hotel had an antiquated feel to it. The elder gentleman who checked us in was just that, a true gentleman. Very polite and friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the history of the hotel and where to visit around Munich with young children.
The only thing i would change are the pillows to sleep on, but that is just for personal preference.
Thank you for a lovely stay.
- Todd (8/5): - The hotel is ideal for a short stay in the center of Munich I had a very positive experience. The hotel is old and shows it's age, but that's part of the charm. Staff is pleasant and helpful. I felt safe. Housekeeping was spot on. It' adjacent to a theater area that's lively at night. Food, shopping, and public transit are ample and close. I realize there are some negative reviews about lack of hot water was mentioned. Not true. The water was fine. This not a luxury hotel where you linger in the room, but for a reasonably priced clean room while touring Munich, it is ideal. I would stay again with no hesitation.
- Moutaz (2/5): - The room was too cold the heater not working i
Not offer to replace the room
Just by saying sorry this is what we have
Actually it’s not a room it’s a roof storage
It’s say the size 208 but it’s not enough for a5 years old to move around the room
- Daryl (6/5): - The property for an older building was in good condition. The carpet needs to be either cleaned or replaced. The heat did not change when adjusted but it was only slightly below normal. The one thing that makes it a no for the next time is the noise from the street. There are a few bars at street level and the noise continued until 5:30 a.m., which meant we were awake until 5:30 a.m. with a 7:00 a.m. wake time. The windows are double-paned for efficiency but had almost no soundproofing qualities. It was almost as if the windows were wide open as far as sound was concerned...and traffic applied here as well. If you can get a room on the back side, then it is acceptable.
- Ian (8/5): Good location for the centre - Concierge on arrival was delightful. He gave excellent advice and was charming. Room was clean. Breakfast coffee was available on one of the days we stayed. Theatre created some noise and disruption . Good location for the centre.
- Flavie (6/5): - Overall, the hotel is fine for a quick rest. However, many improvements would be needed to make it a great place to stay. Walls/windows are like paper sheets, the hotel and its surrounding was generally noisy. No breakfast was available during our stay. The cleanliness of the room could be generally better (mold in the bathroom, big spots on the carpet). Shower needs to be completely changed. The hotel lift is so old, I had to get to the fourth floor to make it go down to the reception, and go up to our room in two trips (the lift support at most 2 people at the same time). Holes in some public halls as well. Thus, the hotel should be globally refurbished.
- Eshlyn (10/5): - Great location! Good enough for the price.
- Verified traveler (4/5): No hot water, awful hotel. - No hot water in the rooms we booked with no remedial action taken to fix while we were there.
Only one (physical) room key per room, with reception closed and unmanned between 11pm-7am makes it difficult.
Rooms are very tired with holes/dirt in the bathrooms and carpets.
I've stayed in better hostels than this.
- Marissa (6/5): Good place for being in the middle of downtown. - The front desk staff attendant was nice. The location is right in the heart of downtown, which is nice for walking to near by attractions and shopping. Although it was very noisy with traffic and restaurant bar hoppers.
- Amber (8/5): - The reason I gave only 4 stars instead of 5 is because the wifi didn't reach our room (on the third floor). We had to leave our room and go into the staircase or down to the reception area where there was a little sofa and use the wifi. I would have much rather been able to access the internet from my room rather than be in community areas. It also meant the smart TV in our room was useless. I believe this problem can be easily fixed with a wifi booster or enhancer, as it seems they probably only have one router on the ground floor.
I thought about giving only 3 stars because the location is in an uncomfortable area of town, with a strip club and sex store right next to the hotel that you have to walk by in order to get to the City center or the bus, but decided not to remove a star because they can't really control the location.
The two people at the front desk were helpful and friendly, and i enjoyed stepping back in time into such an old building (and elevator!)
I really think they should boost their wifi so all their guests can comfortably access the internet and use their TVs in their rooms.
- Belinda (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The location was well situated between the hbf (central station) & the old town. The room was very clean, spacious & comfortable.
- Dorene Betsy (6/5): - I did a late check in which meant I had to call another number when I arrived. The staff was rude and abrupt. There’s no ac so you have to have the windows open. The acoustics of the courtyard make it very noisy and with a restaurant right outside, it was loud until 0300.
- Malik Mudassir (8/5): - Ok
- Andrew (10/5): Superb and affordable 19th century hotel - Superb hotel within a short walk from the main train station. The hotel is part of a famous 19th century theatre, hence the name. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable bed and clean room and bathroom. Excellent value for money and a far more characterful hotel than others for a similar price. It is a very welcome bonus that coffee and tea are provided complimentary at any time of the day.
I will stay here again when I next visit Munich.
- Charles (6/5): - Credit card would not work their fault 2 days in a row
- Cheryl (8/5): - The hotel is very tired and dated but very clean. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. No where for breakfast .
The area is rather noisy , not much around except the theatre but the city centre is only 5 minute walk away .
- Julie (8/5): - The website said that they offered a breakfast for a fee, but they haven't had one since Covid. I also wish the room had a mini frig.
- Thomas (8/5): Close to Hbf - Close to Old Town
- Verified traveler (6/5): No hot water? - Generally acceptable however there was no hot water for a shower.
- Jennifer (8/5): - Hotel was older but you could tell they tried to keep it fairly clean- minus a few stains on the floor. Location is close to Marienplatz and central to many things. We stayed for one night and the price was right
- Abygail (10/5): - The front desk man was really nice, he was a warm welcome. The hotel is incredibly pretty, I didn’t expect it like that, the hallways were so nice. The rooms are really big, they didn’t have A/C, but it wasn’t that necessary. Lots of towels, but maybe it’s missing little toiletries, like soaps and shampoo, but I give this place and staff a 10/10. The breakfast was also really nice
- Charles (8/5): - .
- Muhannad (4/5): - Location
- Wenli (10/5): - Good!
- Wenli (10/5): - Good
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff us friendly and it is a good location. While traveling in Europe I did not expect US hotel standards but you should be aware that the shower; at least in my room, was in a base a good foot above the floor. It seems that this may be a challege for some. The inside of the shower was so small that I often bumped the handke if the water giving a quick change to a cold shower.
So while location, staff and price are reasonable, do not expect much more.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is very very clean, atmosphere is good and conducive ....Everyone should come and visite this hotel in the heart of munich city
- Ireland (4/5): - I was really disappointed when I approached the tiny reception area to be faced with a girl nursing a dog! I’m not altogether sure she even was a receptionist, perhaps she was just filling in. Then to enter the hotel my first impressions was omg it’s filthy dull and badly in need of attention. The room had awful mismatched dated furniture and dirty carpet. The bathroom sockets had duck tape covering them. The beds where clean enough thank goodness or I’d have probably cried. The whole area around the hauptbahnhof (main station) is rather rundown and dirty. This hotel location is NOT a suitable location for children or families giving adult entertainment/shops around It. The only thing good was there was an Aldi Across the road for lovely fresh rolls and breakfast juice. There was a lovely young blonde girl the next two days of our stay who was nice, friendly.
- Mark (8/5): Christmas markets - Great location for the Munich Christmas markets! 5 mins from the underground. Hotel was clean and rooms nice. Staff helpful and pleasant. Enjoyed our 2 night stay.
- Naim (8/5): - Great location, the hotel was a great value. The only thing confusing was that there are 2 hotels with the same name, the hotels back into each other, they are very comparable.
- Natalie (8/5): - Good location for October fest!! Friendly staff, good breakfast. Would recommend the hotel to people
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean hotel with pleasant staff, centrally located near train station, Oktoberfest, a five minute walk from inner ring. Neighborhood was no problem during 12 day stay. Not the hotel for people who are big on top shelf amenities. The night clerk was always helpful and the nicest person I met in Germany. Would stay there again.
- KATHLEEN (10/5): great location and wonderful service - excellent front desk service - innour short stay we met 3 different people - all very kind and attentive
- Stewart (4/5): Very disappointing - The neighborhood is very noisy. I had to keep the windows open at night (no air conditioning) and the street below was full of drunks partying. The shower stall was very uncomfortable. It sat on a high podium and the floor was bowed. The beds were extremely uncomfortable.
- Hoong Lee (8/5): - Everything was fine and decent. Very good price and good location
- Paul (2/5): Terrible service and tired rooms - Terrible experience from the time we walked through the front door! Tried to give our name and were shoved a small check-in form- my husband saw our name on a list and said “that’s us” to be told sternly “that is not for you to look at- it is our official document and not your concern”! After a 23 hour trip that was not a welcome we needed! The room was tiny, very worn/dated and in need of an upgrade. It was clean enough but the service from check-in through to check out was terrible- the worst I’ve ever had anywhere. It was also noisy from the theatre but that wasn’t for too long and with the windows closed it was fine. I would never recommend this place no matter what your budget.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great, large room in an historic building! Could be updated, but has lots of charm!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I knew ahead that the hotel was old That isn’t my issue. We faced the street which is very busy and loud. The old building doesnt seem to be able to keep the sounds out. The racing cards and music on the street went late. We also did not find the staff very friendly. In fact my kids found them rude. The restaurant attached does not serve food other than breakfast. I did like the idea of the old theatre however I was not comfortable in the area outside the hotel at evening/night.
No extras in the room like coffee. Thankfully there is a McDonalds across the street. Aldi was also a bonus
