Guest Reviews
- ilze (2/5): Not great.. location is fantastic - Very difficult to communicate with the manager and to get our key. We had to stand outside the hotel for 15 minutes until she finally answered. You should have a warning that there are many stairs… difficult for older people with heavy bags. The beds were horrible. Luckily there were extra blankets that we could put under us to make it more comfortable. No soap… again luckily we carry extra just in case.
- CJ (8/5): - Great location! Bed was uncomfortable since there were two mattresses instead of one and stairs are narrow to take luggage upstairs. Everything else was excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Service efficace.
- VIJI (8/5): Close to Rialto - Very nice and close to Rialto
- Ben (8/5): Gt location but more of an apartment than a hotel - Love Venice and the location is fabulous. The listing shows with breakfast which this DOES NOT include. Despite the photos there is no facility for this in the hotel so you will need to find elsewhere.
- Dennis (4/5): Narrow - Very difficult and narrow stairs to 3rd floor. No help available.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Zentral gelegen und trotzdem ruhig. Einige Lokale in der Nähe.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very good value in a great location. - This property is in an excellent location, literally 1 minute from the Rialto Bridge and the Vaporetto. The little laneway is very quiet, though the property is only a few yards away from a busy square. There are numerous good restaurants in the vicinity. The room was comfortable, spotlessly clean, with air conditioning and wifi. Unfortunately, the wifi did not work on one of the mornings, but it was fixed by the evening. The mattress was firm, with plenty of pillows and very comfortable. The bathroom was, again, spotless and modern. For the price, this is a great place to spend a few days sightseeing.
- Carlo (10/5): - The Hotel is located in a very central location, just a few steps away from San Marcos Square with a lot of bars and restaurants in the surrounding area. The person who checked us in Ana was lovely and very helpful. Room was spacious and really clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a central and cosy place to enjoy the beautiful city of Venice
- RAJ (6/5): Just average for a night stay - Place is difficult to search as closest neighbours are unaware of this property. It took us 30 minutes to search it with Goole app. Located in a narrow alley, 3 stories on a narrow stair case, no lift. Nothing much in room. No kettle. No tea, coffee.
- Mark (4/5): Not happy - No breakfast was available. So I want a refund on that.
Recomendo
- Beth (8/5): Great location. - Best location!! Super close to the Rialto Bridge. Good stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing location. Amazing staff. Room is basic but worth it for the location. An elevator for luggage would be nice. Would absolutely stay again.
- Ray (10/5): - Location is second to none. Literally a few minutes walk from Rialto bridge and waterbus station. Many shops and restaurants around, very convenient. Francesco was an excellent host. Clear instructions for everything and provided some very helpful suggestions. You do need to walk upstairs to the room, but it's really no big deal. Yes, indeed only one bottle of water per room is free. Can't believe someone made a big deal out of this :) Or just pay 2 euro if you need more, which is on par with restaurant price anyway. We stay there only for one night, but will gladly stay at this location if we come for a longer visit next time. We checked out right after breakfast the next morning and left our luggage there till around 3 or 4. It was no problem at all. And no extra charge :) A very good experience all in all.
- Joan (10/5): - Very welcoming and caring. helpful. . spotlessly clean. A little noisy at night as there was a cantina situated below our window so we had to close it. Beds quite comfortable . Extra pillows and blankets supplied. Shower good. Breakfast was self help but plenty of variety. Very convenient situation close to Rialto Bridge. Easy walk to St Mark's Square and Rialto Waterbus stop. Without an app quite difficult to find but we made it. Lots of eateries nearby and gelaterias. Loved it although it was not canalside. A happy visit with my grand daughter.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel is very old, rooms are small, bed is very uncomfortable, but it is what you get for the price. However, it is in a great central location.
- Ehsan (10/5): Amazing place to stay - Less than a minute walk from Rialto Bridge, this B&B is hidden in a small street but the welcome email did a fine job of giving directions that are easy to understand. I can't thank Francesco (the owner) enough for his hospitality and service. No elevator in the building but he helped us with our luggage. Great location. You're staying in the city center and everything you need, such as restaurants, water bus stop, is within a few minutes walk away. San Marco Square is only 10 minutes walk from this B&B. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 4 and loved it. Room was clean and provided all the amenities needed. A nice complimentary breakfast was provided every morning with fruit, cereal, milk, coffee, bread, ham, cheese, and juice. I have no hesitation in recommending this place!
- mark (8/5): Central hotel - Ca' Leon D'Oro is a small central hotel, very tidy with very helpful staff, the rooms have everything you need to use as a base to explore the beautiful city
- Mark (8/5): Great staff, great location - Can't beat the proximity to Rialto location-wise, and the biggest surprise was the hotel staff. Francesco, the manager, welcomed us and took time to explain the hotel, our room and the next day met us to walk through options in the breakfast room. He's also hilarious and gave great tips. We could depend on him, and Francesco put a lot of joy in our experience.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great service and friendly staff - Consistent with other hotels in Venice, they don't have very large rooms, but the staff have provided great support during our stay. Right after we made our booking here in hotels.com, the hotel sent us an email on what special requests we might have, which is very thoughtful. We requested the room with a balcony and they were able to provide it. Especially there's a guy (sorry didn't ask for his name) who helped us checked in, he helped bring our luggage up the long stairs, showed us how the amenities in our room worked, helped us book restaurant and advised how we can reach airport. Thanks for his help!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Price, people & location - 2 nights for vacation.
The primary reason I selected this hotel was its location. We took the boat (orange line) from the airport and got off at the Rialto stop. The hotel was in easy walking distance from the stop and easy to find. It was down a small dead end street from the Rialto bridge. Even though it was in a busy area, it was still quiet. Since it was so close to Rialto, it was easy to find because there are tons of "Per Rialto" signs all over the island, pointing you back to your hotel.
Check in was easy, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The room itself was small but functional. The bathroom was smaller (even by European standards); the shower itself was about 2.5×2.5'.
As noted in previous reviews, there are a lot of stairs (~30 to the lobby and ~50 to the second floor) and no elevator.
Overall, I was pleased with this hotel, especially considering the price and location.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The bed wasn't very comfortable, but the staff was super friendly and nice. breakfast was simple but awesome. very quiet at night. convenient to reach all areas. late check-in was painless and their directions for getting to the hotel were easy to follow.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Convenient location for Rialto district and nice breakfast. However, 3-night reservation for two-person room included a grand total of 1 complimentary drink from the minibar. Not one per person or even one per night. I'd rather they didn't offer any at all. It would be less insulting.
- Bethanie Kay (8/5): Hidden gem in Venice! - Great location - close to everything only 1 minute walk from Rialto bridge.
Small 5 room B&B means personalized service from the staff. Staff is one of the best parts of staying here!
Rooms are clean and comfortable - adequate size. Beds are firm, pillows are a bit too firm, though. Shower is small (typical for Europe), but not a problem. Decor is traditional Venezian.
Complimentary WiFi works just fine.
Continental breakfast was more than adequate -- breakfast breads, fruits, yogurt, cereal, cold cuts of meat and cheeses. Also juices, milk, hot tea, and a coffee machine with everything from espresso to hot cocoa.
Overall, a pleasant stay in this charming little B&B. It's not 5 star, but the staff are amazing, the rooms are comfortable, and the price is very reasonable.
- Edwin (6/5): Despite the stairs, GREAT staff and good LOCATION! - The most surprising aspect was the long staircase to climb just to get to the reception. The staff were delightful and helpful (excellent), although the room was just plain, with an adequate bathroom (plenty of towels). The breakfast was simple but good (although they ought to keep it open longer hours just to relax) Neighborhood was typical Venetian, and close to everything, with the Rialto stop just a short walk away. I'd say get an elevator! otherwise quite good.
- John (8/5): Good Location, Friendly Staff - Staff was very friendly and very helpful. Location was right in the heart of the city. Room was typical of small European inner "historical" city locations. View was to an house across 8' wide alley. New soundproof windows.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great service and Very clean - Staff are the most friendly and helpful people you can find. Great location and easy to find with close proximity to water taxi stop. Super clean rooms also.
- Tomg (10/5): Nice hotel in heart of Venice - Very good location in heart of Venice, air con in the room, mini bar with first bottle of anything for free,
- Tracy (8/5): Charming little place! - Excellent location. Staff was very pleasant...we were given the personal run-down of everything in the room when we checked in. Beds were hard...but seems to be the norm in Italy! Room was clean. Breakfast room was cute and set up nicely. Breakfast was adequate for us - toast, fruit, yogurt, cereal etc. We were only there one night and enjoyed our stay. Lots of stairs once you enter the front door.
- cally (10/5): Great :) - 30 sec from Rialto, great A/C and clean comfy room. The coffee machine isn't great and there is no kitchen at the hotel so breakfast is honest but minimal. Small and clean, brilliant staff and can't fault location. Bargain x
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good central location - Hotel location is great as close to Rialto bridge and San Marco and 20mins walk from train station/Plazza Roma. The email instructions on how to find the hotel was good and found it straight away. Although hotel reception only available from 8am to 8pm, we had no problem with this and staff were very helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely little hotel - Location was perfect! You can walk easily to the most sightseeing area. Staff were kind and friendly. Only drawback is the steep staircase - this hotel has no lift.
- Tom (8/5): Great location, just about one block from Rialto - Entire hotel staff is more than excellent. They bent over backwards to accommodate and answer questions. For example, we arrived in Venice by ship and didn't know how to get from hotel to airport on day of departure. A young man at the desk quickly gave us the options and then his recommendation. He printed out a map and a vaparetto schedule, told us which boat we'd have to take to get to the airport with ample time; the cost, etc. Likewise, for our common tourist type questions they always had great answers and recommendations and would print out a map and timetable, etc.
When the hotel staff heard that we would need to depart about an hour before the breakfast room opened, they told us that they would leave out a supply of croissants and leave the room unlocked so we could still get a good breakfast before we started.
Hotel is tucked away from the main streets, so the room was quieter than the typical Venice room. Also, their free high speed internet connection was very much appreciated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing location! Amazing! - The saying goes you get what you pay for but we got an absolute bargain considering the location of this place. Steps away from the Rialto Bridge so the fab staff and cleanliness were a bonus! It was somewhere for us to get our heads down each night which is basically all we need when visiting a place like Venice because we are out sight seeing from morning til night. Due to the prime location though we did call back to the hotel a few times through out the days for coats etc when it got cooler.
- Graham (10/5): Delightful small hotel. - Ideal situation for exploring Venice. Convenient for the vaparetto and easy walking distance to all the museums and sites of special interest.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Amazing location!!! - Staff was very friendly and helpful, rooms were clean, and the best location we could have asked for.
- Mary (6/5): Francesco, the desk manager is AWSOME with helping - Francesco, the desk manager at check in, was friendly, fun and great to work with. The breakfast was fresh and tasty. The refrigerator in our room didn't work, and we were told it would be fixed the next morning, 3 days later when we left it still was not fixed.
The hotel is in a great location.
- Kim Funk (10/5): Awesome once we found it! - We had a great time and the staff did everything above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. They send us directions but we didn't read the email so got lost. Go to Rialto bridge. Walk thru to square with explorer statue. It's in an alley almost straight ahead, look for overhanging red and yellow lion sign. We has said it was our honeymoon so they had champing waiting for us.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean, very convenient location (right near the Rialto Bridge) and friendly service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Small, but great location at reasonable price. - I think the heading says it all. Small rooms. Very centrally located. Price seemed fair. A lot less than other options. Free breakfast was nice touch. I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location - Great staff (Francis was exceptional). A two minute walk to the Rialto Bridge. Set breakfast and basics for us the night before so we could catch 0603 water bus to airport. Easy to walk to EVERYTHING!
- Dominique (8/5): very good location near Rialto Bridge - Very well located hotel in the heart of Venise . Very clean with Multi lingual staff . We spent a very good 2 days and we would go back at this hotel. ( be aware that you need to be able to use stairs because the hotel does not have an elevator ) Other than that , it was very well !
- Sarah (6/5): Pretty basic - I wish I could give this hotel a better review because the staff was very friendly and did what they could to make everything easier for us, but the hotel leaves much to be desired. The rooms were run down, clean enough, but could have been better maintained. The beds were very hard with thin hard pillows. The breakfast was sparse but they do have a nice coffee machine. The location is very central which in Venice means very busy and loud, though once we closed the shutters it was quiet. It's easy to get to and has plenty of shopping and restaurants near by. Now the real issue...stairs. There are 30+ steep stairs just too get to the front desk another 20+ to get to the first floor and no lift. There were more floors but we were on the first floor so not sure how many more there were. It was dreadful, we had quite a bit of luggage having just come off a 2 week cruise and my mother and I struggled just to get them to the desk. They put them in our room for us while we were out but the next morning we had to lug them all the way back down by ourselves. Don't take this lightly. I read previous reviews and thought "how bad can it be", it's bad. If you are bringing a significant amount of luggage I would look elsewhere. Otherwise it's a basic hotel in the city center.
- Kristen (10/5): Great Stay! - Couldn't ask for more! Beautiful hotel, very central.
- Verified traveler (2/5): very bad experience - this hotel should not considered any star hotel, bed-breakfast place at the best
- Kostas (8/5): Great for young people - It is a very nice hotel, at very good location. Me and my girlfriend stayed at the top room out of the 5 it has. The room was a bit small but it had a balcony and it was very nice.
I DO NOT suggest this hotel for old or thick people since it has very steep staircase to go to every room. Also, the breakfast was not nice and very poor.
- Betsey (4/5): Small B and B - Good location but this small hotel, which has just 5 rooms, has lots of narrow stairs which are difficult to navigate with a suitcase. It is a good value and in a good location, just 1 block from the Rialto Bridge.
- Ali (6/5): well you won't get lost! - The hotel is very very close to Rialto bridge so if you ever get lost just follow the signs to Rialto or ask any one. Rooms are average but clean. There is a fridge in a room. There is no elevator in the building so be prepared to take your luggage up 3 to 4 floors. Take a water taxi 2 from the train station to Rialto.
Staff are friendly and nice. They will send you direction to the hotel if you provide them email. If you are checking after 7:00 PM, it's important you contact them ahead of time because you will be using another location for entry and registration!
- Cherie (10/5): Wonderful Stay - We stayed three nights here. It was in a great location, very quiet and comfortable. We had to check out early our last morning. They let us pay the day before and they even left out some breakfast for us. Great service.
- McDaimon (10/5): Small but clean room and great location - Good place for accommodation of two people. If you will come back to hotel for bath and sleep, there is good place with perfect location. Clean and small room, lite breakfast, some noise from nearest square.
- Kim (6/5): Trip to Venice - The staff were polite. Breakfast was basic. Got use to the term continental breakfast. Lots of steps with suitcase not fun. Getting to the hotel was difficult as we went to San Marco the hotel is in Rialto. Would have been better to travel from train station. Hotel basic for price paid.
- Mike (10/5): Right in the middle of tourist center of Venice - We liked the managers of this small hotel. The room was small but clean. We were on the third floor so the street noise did not bother us. The continental breakfast was very good. The only problem was the narrow steep stairway to the registration and the rooms. We would recommend this hotel to our friends
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great experience - Very convenient location; practical and functional; friendly staff.
- Elita (10/5): Amazing! - I loved staying at the Ca' Leon D'Oro in magical Venice! The room was beautiful. Lots of space and well stocked fridge. Great wifi and great bathroom and shower! It was peaceful and quiet and a minute or so from the Rialto Bridge and very easy to find with the directions from Frank the Manager. I enjoyed chatting with him while I was there and I was made to feel very welcome. Hope to see you upon my return! Thank you so much! Elita from Austraia
- Verified traveler (8/5): Venice - The experience was just amazing, not only the hotel was in a great location but the service was really good.
- Nikki (10/5): Perfect place to stay! - This lovely small hotel felt more like a bed and breakfast. Only 4 or 5 rooms, your own key to the front door, and fantastic location made it the perfect home base for our exploration of Venice! Our room was simple, clean and a good size. The bathroom (also clean) was very tiny (more like on a cruise ship). The staff was incredibly helpful, breakfast was fresh + plentiful each morning. Would definitely recommend Ca'Leon D'oro to all who are looking for a home away from home while in Venice!
- Winnie (10/5): Great location, great hotel and staff - Very pleasant and helpful staff. Location great, metres away from Rialto Bridge.
- anonimo (8/5): near railto bridge and vaporetto lines in venice - When we go back, we would like to stay there. The hotel has a very steep and long staircase but is worth it.
- Sara (8/5): Good hotel - Good location, a bit expensive, but thats te best that you can get in venice
- Marty (6/5): Hotel Ca' Leon D'Oro in Venice - When we arrived at the hotel we found that there were 2 flights of steps to climb with our luggage prior to arriving at reception. Although the hotel was in a convenient location to transportation and sites, it was in a noisy alley. Our room was noisy due to people constantly passing by and we were also disturbed by the vendors in the piazza next door. We were also disappointed with the breakfast that was served. The food was minimal and was not replenished regularly.
- Jennifer (10/5): Ca' Leon D'Oro - Loved this hotel. room was beautiful and spacious. Right next to Rialto Bridge. Tons of shopping outside your door. Breakfast was good. We would definetely stay here again.
- Bel (10/5): Great location, ideal if visiting with kids! - The hotel is a little gem based in an excellent location, only app 8 min walk to St Mark's Square and no more than a 2 min to the Rialto Bridge.
The hotel itself is really clean and the staff are really welcoming, friendly and speak really good english. We had our two and half year old son with us and the staff were really accomodating when we asked them to provide us with a cot. Most definately ideal place to have kids...but note that if they are quite loud they may get on the other guests nerves.
The room itself was a decent size for the three of us with a double bed and a single plus a cot, with a bit of room for the little one to play with his toys.
Breakfast was ok, your usual continetal brekkie ..nothing special though.
My only bug bear would be the fact that there was no coffee/tea making facilities, luckily we had read another guest's review who'd stated this and therefore we took a travel kettle with us!
All in all, we would most definately stay here again with our son!
Thank you for making our stay a pleasant one!
- Edie (8/5): Great location Steep steps to room - We found the hotel to be very convenient. We took the Alilaguna to Rialto Bridge, and walked the few minutes to the hotel.
Nice people, extremely clean room. The only consideration is that to get our luggage (from a cruise) to our room, we had to go up three steep and winding stairs. No elevator, no porter. So unless you have little luggage, it is a chore.
- John (10/5): Venice hotel close to Rialto Bridge - Great hotel in very quiet 'alley' location, yet just one minute's stroll from the Rialto Bridge and all the life and action of Venice. Simple but very adequate breakfasts, very helpful staff.
- Mandy (10/5): Wonderful Location and Staff! - As a 30-something, first-time traveler to Italy, I didn't know what to expect. I searched and searched reviews to find just the right hotel for my husband and I in Venice. And, I was not disappointed! Ca'Leon D'Oro was the perfect location (literally at the foot of the Rialto Bridge - but still quite), and the staff was wonderful and more than accommodating. They was always someone at the desk (until 8PM), they let us use the computer to check email, and they always asked if we needed anything. Our only complaint was the terrible 4-year-old in the room next door that screamed at her parents constantly (but that was a parenting issue, not a hotel issue!) The breakfast was wonderful with pastries, fruit, yogurt, ham, cheese, cereal and a really great coffee machine that made anything from cafe americano to cappuccino to chocolate coffee. The rooms were clean, mid-sized, and the bathroom was big enough for two....with a "normal" sized shower. We loved our stay here and would recommend to anyone who wants to be in the center of it all in Venice for a wonderful price!
