Guest Reviews
Bettgestell komplett lose
- brady (10/5): -
- Bontoiu (5/5): The area is nice but never recommended to stay in Pignatelli - The place is clean, close to the important places in the center town- it was hotel Emanuele not PIGNATELLI .
The owner hepl me and call a taxi - this is normal in the conditions if the hotel is 3 start- but NOT .
And the taxi charger me extra 5 EURO for the car.
So at the end I could call any taxi from outside and get better prices. I booked the Pignatelli hotel. Someone from the hotel contacted me that the check is is between 10-13, he told me if I came later to do late check in and pay 50euro extra- I Accept it. I travel with my best friend she arrived first and told them that my friend will come before me.
She texted them and then they told her that we will stay in another hotel because we arrived late- this information was give the day we arrived not the previous day.
She arrived at the hotel Emanuel but they said is not me and I specifically told them my friend will arrive first ( she arrived around 19:30).
They didn't want to let her do the check in, keep her 2h more to speak with her and charge her 113 Euro that they said is their charge for 10 euro extra per hour because we came last and another for the CITY TAXES that we already paid when I bought the room by Booking.com.
They didn't want to give us a RECEIPTS for 113 EURO.
I told them that I already payed the city taxes on Booking.com but they said NO is not payed.
I should them the email with the confirmation and still NO , my friend was exhausted and payed.
So I didn't stay in hotel PIGNATELLI as per the Booking.com is writing 3 stars - they changed us and put me and my friend to pay for extra taxes city and extra taxes and NO RECEIPT.
The information should be given on the website if we need to pay extra taxes or if we are late the owner can change us in different hotel.
And the internet is not working.
I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND IT.

Abbiamo noi rifatto i letti.

All of things
- Stefano (6/5): Pensavo meglio - Ambiente curato,Posizione centrale Troppe scale, non c'era condizionatore, bagno piccolo senza bidet
- Michela (7/5): -
- Alberto (1/5): AVOID - Staff was overall friendly location is ok It did not expect my expectation! It’s called hotel but is not at all.
No air/conditioning, only one socket was working, no soap and dust everywhere
- Antoaneta (8/5): Great central historical building - Excellent value for money, staff and kindness. Historical building with interesting architectural details. There was a window shade pane missing so I woke up at 6am because of the light. We also had to put a towel on top of the light above the door.
- Mária (7/5): Good - Great location, the receptionist fixed the WiFi after we told him it’s not working Very old and small bathroom
- Ing-kristin (7/5): Good - The bed was not the best
- Razvan (3/5): Below average - The location is very good There was a problem with the water for 2 out of 4 days stay. And the receptionist charged us extra for the city tax, also the room was pretty “old” and many things were “fixed”.
- Mario (10/5): Exceptional - The service is very good and the room is very good.
- Patryk (8/5): Very good - Close to centre
- Satadru (7/5): Good - The location was perfect at the heart of Naples. My stay was actually in Hotel Emmanuel ( a stone's throw away from Hotel Pignatelli). My host Chiro generously offered a better room during my stay hence the change in location. I spent a good amount of time exploring historic Naples by foot. Chiro is an amazing host, he is warm and cares about people staying at his place. He recommended taking a boat ride during my short day trip to Amalfi, which was an excellent suggestion. I thoroughly enjoyed my boat trip from Amalfi to Salerno. Overall, I had a wonderful stay in Naples.
- Darcy (10/5): Great authentic italian hotel right in the centre of the historic town in Naples - We had an amazing stay at Hotel Pignatelli! The hotel is right in the centre so we visited everything on foot. It was clean and very authentic (beautiful original painted high ceilings) and the staff, especially Diego the owner, were very kind and helpful, giving us directions and advice for what to visit etc. Would recommend ! NA
- Arash (9/5): Superb - Diego was so helpful. Without his guidance, we wouldn't have been able to fully enjoy Napoli.
- Chiara (10/5): Exceptional - I booked during a relatively off season (mid May) and this was one of the cheapest hotels in the center so I wasn't expecting much but was actually pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in a beautiful traditional house with high ceilings and beautiful antique decorations, the room is not facing the street so there's no traffic noise. The location is great, close to everything and the bar below "L'Orientale" serves delicious and cheap breakfast This is not a problem specific to this hotel but a problem in general you should prepare for when going to Naples from May to November: mosquitoes. Bring a spray or electric repeller, also due to climate change there's many of them
- Amancebo27 (9/5): Superb - Very good price for the service they offer. The room was big and comfy and covered all the necessities. The location is very central. Additionally, the receptionist is very helpful in regard to touristic advice about Napoli.
- Gabriella (8/5): Central location - It's a very good location and the staff is friendly and helpful.
- Nedeljkovic (7/5): Good -
- Alistair (8/5): friendly atmospheric helpful - it is a property of character. If you are intimidated by the vast wooden doos on arrival everything else is a pleasant surprise the manager is very helpful. the room is lovely and the bed very comfortable. It is in the heart of chaotic Naples. don’t be afraid of graffiti. lovely simple square for cheap drinks opersite.
- Suriano (5/5): Passable -
- Tamer (1/5): Bad -
- Jesse (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lada (10/5): Fantastic place close to all the amenities, lovely and clean - Great location-4 minutes to the Universita metro station and close to Spanish quarter and other sites. Friendly staff, clean, historic property. My room didn’t have a TV or aircon which didn’t bother me at all. Quite a few stairs to get upstairs to your rooms which might be a problem for some people
- Fabiana (4/5): Disappointing -
- Frank (10/5): Very good - All Nothing
- Peter (5/5): Passable - Closeness to old city Rate was way over priced
Booking .com has listed as €92
Room listing either locally rate €70-90
Charged €160 per night
No tea making facilities
No water on arrival in room
No TV
No fan on first night supplied 2nd night without requesting
Bed hard
Feeling ripped off!
- Luisa (6/5): Pleasant - The hotel is rather a B&B than a hotel. They give you the keys and it works like a B&B. It is a second floor with no elevator, but Diego was nice and call us to help us bring the luggage up. Unfortunately I didn’t get the call. The room (an upgrade) was spacious and clean. It does not have many amenities. The hotel is very central though, extremely well located for someone that wishes to visit Naples and does not have much time to do it, as it was our case. Literally in the ‘centro storico’. You feel like you are living a napolitan adventure/experience. We like it, but some other may be disappointed. Diego was extremely nice!
- Avraham (7/5): Good - Diego help us alot, took us from airport, answear all our questions and help us The shower not good, small amount of water fall on your body
- Katarzyna (10/5): Exceptional - Location is great, staff is very nice amd helpful. Room is clean.
- Festina (5/5): Our first and last time staying at this place - The owner was very rude in overall, he told us that we have to pay 10 euros for each hour that we are late after 20:00 to check in. The bathroom was dirty, the toilet seat was yellow from dirt, the room was covered in dust, the internet was not working, the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. No one was at the reception to turn to for help Wifi not working
Rude owner
Expensive
Dirty place
you have to pay 10€ extra for each hour after 20:00 to check in hotel
- Cynthia (8/5): It met my needs. - The room wasn’t clean and a nice size. I loved the big window and window sill for sitting and enjoying the morning - it did look out onto other people’s apartments. It’s in the center of everything. The bed wasn’t too comfy. the bathroom was extremely small - which would be okay if the door didn’t open into the small bathroom
making it difficult to maneuver. The plug near the bed was broken.
- Motti (5/5): Passable - Location was great and the price for weekends were reasonable.
There is no A/C but a fan Too many stairs to climb until you reach the room. The shower were slow and the drainage need to be fixed.
- Shima (3/5): The only good point was the location. - The location of the hotel and the reception was really nice Cleaning of the room and the facilities, they didn’t clean the bathroom not even once, didn’t have any proper air conditioner just a fan, the bed was supposed to be double but it was 2 single bed attached which was super uncomfortable for a couple, they didn’t put any shampoo or shower gel or any other cleaning stuff in the room.
- 829eceg (2/5): terrible experience, rude and untrustable owner and receptionist - we booked 3 nights. the room we got was totally a different room (not a room but a shelter). we did not see it in the photos provided. it was outside of the hotel and like a basement floor.
we had a limited time in naples, therefore at first place we did not want to complain about the situation but enjoy our holiday but this room was a nightmare..
bathroom was terribly dirty (black and yellow floors), we found trash bags at the back of the wardrobes, we even saw bugs on the floor of the bathroom.
we got no room service, we had no wifi although they stated that there is wifi in the room.
next day we went to hotel to complain, but it was a sunday and there was no one. on monday we went there again and their reaction was unbelievable. they denied everything and blamed us, instead of trying to make us feel more pleasant.
for example, they said "we have wifi in reception. not in the rooms. " but on the internet, it was written "wifi in the room". when we ask for wifi to connect with the booking agency about our complains, they got angry and kicked us out of the hotel. and the most terrible point was, they denied all the things they did when they were talking with the agency and blamed us for the things we never did.
Anoher problem is that they cannot speak English. they speak Italian but use some english words in between. it was very painful to communicate with them.
we went there to have a nice holiday but they ruined everything. we did not expect so much, just an understanding hotel staff that can see their mistakes and try to make us feel happy.
last day they took our keys and we were on the street with no room. therefore we booked another room in another hotel. it was the worst days of my life. because of them i cried one day long.
see the photos and understand what we had experienced....
- majuyus (2/5): Rude Owner - Very unpolite and rude owner, charging 40€ extra for delayed arrival from airport, asking for higher tourist tax fee without giving recipy. Room with awful staircase on a second floor which was like a 4th floor with no lift.
After accommodation of a whole week for two persons, owner asks for a charge of 5€ each for a couple of hours of left luggage.
As a positive remak, excellent customer service by the two Asian hostesses.
All in all, not to recommend.
- DoraC1345 (2/5): Dreadful experience! - I had booked 4 nights, half paid upon reservation the rest to be charged on my card before arrival. The manager tried to bully me into paying that amount in cash upon my arrival, which I refused and insisted he billed it on the card. I still had to pay local tax in cash and he refused to give me a receipt - I later found out that the tax is less than what I have paid and that a receipt is always due.
Then the hotel has no lift and is located on a very high third floor (equivalent to standard 5th floor) When I complained (I am 72), the manager offered that I go to another hotel of his which was more expensive, and I also had to pay a 10€ supplement for the clean sheets and towels! An awful experience, in the end I left after two nights and lost the money.
- tony522 (4/5): Rude owner - Hotel is in a safe area with bars and restaurants and piazzas nearby. Room very basic. Had no tv control or tea/coffee making facilities. Very little hot water and just a basic hand/body wash plastic dispenser. Hairdryer not much use. Hotel at the top of 4 steep flights of stairs so not recommended for elderly/disabled guests. Dont use their airport transfers as very expensive. There's a set taxi fee of €18 to/from the airport just make sure you mention it when getting in or they'll charge you something else. Owner is very rude dismissive and arrogant. No cafe or kitchen onsite so there's places further up the street. To be honest I've stayed in much cheaper and better hotels. Definitely wouldn't stay here again due to the management's attitude.
- V3742WOsharonc (2/5): Bad - We arranged to be collected from the airport some two weeks in advance of our visit,we were sent an email with where to wait for the driver and his phone number. I instantly replied with my thanks and notified the hotel of our flight details and what time we would be arriving. We waited as instructed, no car, we called the number given, no reply . We called the hotel, less than helpful and they subsequently hung up after a few seconds. We waited bit eventually realised no one was coming, we got a cab for 27 euro which is actually 8 euros less than the hotel wanted. Result! However upon arrival at the hotel, once we had rang again as reception was up four flights of stairs ( no mention of that on the hotel details) we were greeted by a very rude hotel owner, he proceeded to try and bully us into paying the airport transfer, despite it being a no show, he shouted and tried to say we were in the wrong place , luckily i had kept the email from him telling us where to wait , he called us liars and then attempted to charge us for a driver who simply did not show. We felt bullied, intimidated and unwelcome, i advised i would seek accomodation elsewhere if he persisted , he then proceeded to check us in, demanding cash as payment ( despite previously taking half the booking by card ) and he did not speak another word to us for our 3 night stay , we had a double and a single bed in our room and we were told we would be charged extra if we used the single bed, surely if you book a room it's yours to use ? It's like saying you can't use the bathroom. The booking advised breakfast was 3 euro per person, but on request we were told no breakfast! Also no mention the the hotel is unsuitable for disabled people as up four flights of stairs , I have MS and i known I would not have booked . Room was ok , hairdryer doesn't get hot , no tea or coffee making facility, shower ropey and water cold after a few minutes. No option to leave a review on booking.com. Good central location but rude aggressive owner , determined to rip you off. Booked a cab back to the airport for 18 euro , half the cost that the owner quotes. Would not recommend.
- 691carlos (4/5): "So so Hotel" - Property is located next to a University so expect young crowds on the day but the hotel is very accessible to public transportation,Resturants, Bars and the main road. Walking distance to certain tourist areas and local stores. The hotel itself was so so. Entrance (gate) was full of graffiti (I suggest to have it painted to be more attractive), no TV, phone and amenities (except for liquid soap/ shampoo and towels) so better be prepared to bring your own. There's hair dryer ( I can see filter are full of dust) and the water in shower barely comes out ( not sure if the water pressure is low or due to clogged shower head). Bed was ok. Twins that were put together so you can have 1 bed. There's a small table in the room. Be aware that no eating, no liquors/ alcohols and no smoking allowed in room. Wi-fi is free and had a good connection. Room is decent and clean except for some small spots here and there. Other than that, it's quite at night (except from people running upstairs from time to time). The gentleman at the small FD was nice and will help you for areas to visit. The room I say will only be good for sleeping and plan to be out all day.
- anthonygC9677JG (10/5): great location and underrated - We stayed for 5 nights in Hotel Pignatelli and were very satisfied with almost everything. It's not a perfect place, but I decided to give it 5/5 to help with the ratings that have been skewed by some strange (and occasionally offensive) reviews left on this site. We arrived late, around 11pm, but had arranged this with the manager in advance. It cost us an extra 5 euros per hour. The manager was welcoming and friendly, taking time to recommend places to visit. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. This area of the city is quite noisy and dirty, but also vibrant and full of great restaurants, cafes etc. It's fair to say that if you don't like this kind of vibe you might as well not bother coming to Naples - but also that it might not be an ideal choice for families with young children. We loved exploring the narrow streets and found it easy to go further afield, there's a metro stop about 10 minutes walk away. In my opinion this is a great choice for a short break.
- furektimotej (2/5): The worst experience eve - We were supposed to have late check in - that was arrenget over phone (hotel staff was wery bad in english). When we arrived all doors was locked down. We repported this to booking.com (the side that we booked hotel through) the costumer service tried to contact hotel through every contact that hotel porovidet them, but no luck. We were forced to find another hotel. The day after we went to this hotel to discus what happend the night before. No one at hotel was speaking english so we were forcet to call booking.com and use them as translator (they speak only italian even that they advertise that they speak 4 languages...)... Any way hotel deny that we were there and eaven arrange late check in over phone (eaven when I showed him phone record). For the rest of our stay we were forced to stay in another hotel - they didn't give us a chance to stay there and refused to refund us! So at that point we lost 400€. Definitely not recommending.
- Lucylu74 (8/5): Characterful rooms in the Old Town - Some of these other reviews are hilarious, particularly the ones that say the area is dodgy and the road is covered in graffiti. Naples IS dodgy and it is pretty much entirely covered in graffiti- the whole city! If you don't like dirt, poverty, graffiti or smells, don't go to Naples. If you want great food, authenticity, vibrancy, art, culture, rowdiness and friendliness then DO go. This hotel is like a metaphor for Naples. It had huge rooms with high ceilings, old slightly tatty furniture and an odd system for checking in. The manager seems to live off-site so is only there for check in. We had to leave our key behind the unmanned desk when we checked out in the morning. There is no breakfast served but cafes abound. The hotel is on the second or third floor of a pallazo and there is a grand yet faded glory to the place. There is no lift and the stairs are hard if you have luggage but the price reflects this. The owner ordered us a cab to the airport in the morning which arrived promptly and was a fraction of the cost of other taxis we ordered. This hotel is more like an old fashioned pensione than an actual hotel. Its lacks the bland, beige corporateness of other places we stayed and had a typically Neapolitan atmosphere. Odd, quirky and lovely.
- joandsergg (6/5): Ok - We had a one night stay here, and found the place ok., but there are quite a number of stairs which is hard work in the heat with luggage. Yes it is in the dodgy bit of town, but once in the 'door' it feels pretty safe. We found the room had no wifi so had to use the wifi in the reception area on a step, later in the night, which didn't bother us too much, but we needed to contact home, so could be a problem if it's urgent. Comfy bed and staff were nice.
- jacquio-9 (8/5): Don't be put off by previous reviews - We booked this hotel last minute and were sceptical. We were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean nicely furnished and staff very welcoming. Wifi was available in reception area. There is a lovely terrace with Ratten chairs to sit outside. The hotel has a central location within easy walking distance of the port, old town and cathedral. The main issue with the hotel is that like many parts of Naples there is graffiti outside. The university is nearby so younger people in area. The hotel is positioned in a courtyard behind a secure gate. The gate has graffiti on which may put you off at first. However the hotel behind is safe and in a secure courtyard. The manager was very helpful.
- maggielQ1077QI (2/5): Terrible stay, terrible hotel, terrible service. - If I had paid more attention to the negative reviews about the hotel I would have never booked it. My boyfriend and I booked 2 nights at the end of July when the temperatures were over 100 degrees. The hotel is in the historical center but the street is really quite dirty. The front door is covered in graffiti and the hotel is located up 2 flights of stairs. While we didn't expect any help for the stairs outside the hotel, the staff sat by and watched us struggle to bring 2 suitcases up the stairs next to reception. They didn't even offer to help! This hotel does not have A/C and it's my mistake since I didn't check for that. The room was so hot during the day and night, and the fan in the room was only blowing out hot air. The bathroom is quite bare and they do not even provide amenities like soap! The shower curtain was broken and held together with strings from a trash bag. The wifi does not work and we were the first room (#5) closest to reception. Since everything was terrible, and we couldn't even sleep, we decided to check out after 1 night, even though the cancellation policy meant that we had to pay for 2 nights. It was that bad! The hotel owner demanded that we leave our passports with the staff member overnight since we were checking out early! I was eventually able to argue that we would not leave without paying, especially since they have our credit card information on file from the booking.com reservation. The next morning when we checked out we were informed they only accept cash. The website states that they take all forms of payment but the owner, who clearly looks like he is from the mafia, would only take cash! I believe this should be changed online to reflect the more accurate forms of payment....cash only. Even though there was a credit card machine and receipts on the counter, he pointed to signs on the wall that say cash only!
- MartaL87 (2/5): Bad experience. C'est une arnaque - We booked a small double room for three nights on booking.com. When we arrived at the hotel after carrying our heavy luggage from the port and under the boiling sun we had not been welcomed as wished. The hotel is at the second floor of an ancient building without elevator and nobody helped us with the luggage. Instead, the rude owner started attacking me because he tried to call me and my phone was switched off. I asked if there was a problem with our reservation and he said no... he said we would be more comfortable in a bigger room with a supplement of five euros and we asked to see both rooms in order to decide. They just showed us the the bigger one. When we insisted to see the room we had booked online they showed us, but it was occupied by other guests!!!! We were so tired that we accepted the bigger room (where to go otherwise?). It was underground without air conditioning. This means 40 degrees in the room and very bad sleep. No toiletries in the very old bathroom with rusty shower and spiders. No WiFi in the room. No staff available during our stay but luckily we left eatly in the morning and came back late. I cannot see any good points... maybe the position in the heart of the historical city centre. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.
- 203stefanw (4/5): Shot stop - We came with the car . But we don't know the very specialized park situation there. If you a possibility then park at the port .forgot all affectations. After we checked in we have to paid a high fee for hotel managers parking place in a backyard. The personal was friendly and wanted to explain the situation but at first they don't speak English and gave no alternatives for parking there. The rooms weren't clean. The shower had mould in the corners. We don't come back again . No breakfast was available.
- mariamF3055YQ (2/5): TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE - I needed to depart from the hotel at 4am. At the moment of booking and then at check in I was reassured the receptionist would be there all night and would help me with my luggage as there is no lift and a lot of stairs. The day of departure the same owner told me I had never asked and that they didn't open the hotel for check out at this time. He threatened me and intimidated me.I left one night early with no refund.
They advertise themselves as a Bed and Breakfast but there is no breakfast available. No WIFI except from the reception area with nowhere to sit.
The bathroom is completely outdated and there is no shower gel available.
- Flauto (2/5): Non consigliato! - This hotel is located at the historical center of Naples at the second floor of an ancient building. Breakfast shall be ordered and is served in the room (price 2.5€). A breakfast room does not exist!
At midnight I could not find the hotel and I called, the person in charge was unable to explain the way. The owner switch off the electricity during the day.
Limited shower gel available in the room.
Wifi available only at the entrance.
TV set was not tuned, nothing visible.
Difficult to get a proper receipt as requested by my company; when I made clear that I was going to pay only with a proper receipt the owner/manager did threaten with calling the police.
My room was quite noisy.
Pay attention to the price, ask for a written offer.
I do not recommend.
- 14robertor (2/5): Room ok, but awful service - My room was very clean. Ok. But this is not enough. First, I disliked that I was not allowed to get back to my room after 1am. You expect such rules from a youth hostel, not from an alleged hotel. Second, I disliked very much that the owner accepted exclusively cash as a means of payment, without giving you any receipt! Last, but not at all least, the first day I came, I asked whether on my last day it would be possible to leave my luggage for some hours at the receptiion. The owner said "Yes, this is normal". The day of my departure the owner was not there, and the receptionist told me that nobody would be there to open the "hotel" and give me my luggage between 130pm and 5pm. I asked whether there was a place where I could leave my luggage but the receptionist was not able to tell me whether this would be possible at the train station. Finally, after my urging the receptionist, he/she called the owner, who neither talked to me (I had expected at least apologies), nor found any solution (e.g. a bar or a restaurant of somebody he may be possibly acquainted with). Therefore I was forced to spend my last day in Naples carrying all my luggage with me.
- PinaZ_rich (8/5): Naples at its best! - As a travel & food Journalist I have known many different hotels worldwide but in Napoli at the Pignatelli and its owner Ciro Muscariello I really feel at home. The hotel is located right in the heart of Naples so that I need neather taxi nor bus I can easily walk to my preferred locations. Ciro is helping with his whole heart, so whenever any questions or problems occure, he is acting.
The Hotel is not 'perfect', there is no room for breakfast, but therefore you'll get it to your room by the time you want it. And some of the bathrooms are not quite 'new', but the rest of the Roms are made lovely and furnished with much taste!
- maya_shaag (8/5): loved the location, loved the staff! - although not easy to find at first, once you get to know Naples you can appreciate the excellent location. I was amazed to read a review about the staff being rude. the staff are the warmest staff I met in Italy (like most of the southern Italian people) and I've been around quite a bit (2 months). the room was basic but comfertable and clean, and it was a single. perhaps the doubles are more cozy. but there was a window not facing a wall like many places in Italy, and the old palazzo in which the hotel is situated gives tons of character. for it's price - it's a truely great place to stay.
As for Naples itself - you need to give it time, keep an open mind, don't expect it to be like anything else in Italy - and you'll love it. i know i did.
