• JENNIFER (2/5): Bad Hotel, Bad Location, Bad Overall - I do not recommend this place to anyone. 1) The bed is very uncomfortable 2) Sewer gas smell is seeping through the sink. I had to cover the drain with a towel so the smell doesn't come through. 3) The hotel smells like cigarette. The old man in the front desk smoke and his cigarette can be smelled all the way to the second floor. I had to put a towel at the bottom of the door to trap the smell from coming into the room. 4) This place is situated in a ghetto area of Paris.

I can't think of any bad things to say as it was very good value for the price. And Sacre Couer and Montmartre were right around the corner.

My plan was to stay at Hotel Montpellier for 3 nights but I checked out after only 2 hours due to a number of issues. This hotel featured shared bathroom facilities. The room itself no bathroom, hot water, fridge, kettle, heater, safe or carpet. It measured maybe 3 metres long by 2 metres wide and felt like a prison cell rather than adequate accommodation. There was also a one inch between the floor and the bottom of the door so either a draft came through or you could easily hear what was going on outside (or both). I would like a full refund here given that I checked out after only 2 hours at this place. Please contact me if you have further questions. Thanks, Matt
• Ashley (4/5): You get what you pay for - This hotel was more like a hostel and did not have private bathrooms. Though the service was good and the rooms/bathrooms were adequately clean, it was in an area that felt rather unsafe

• Kgaogelo (2/5): - The place is a slum place, no need to call it a hotel. Water pipes were running from our room, we could hear water being used by anybody in the building. No lifts to go upstairs. The electric wires are not properly hidden, the doors have cracks, and cannot lock nicely. I am so disappointed
• L (8/5): - Cute tiny hotel in an interesting area. If you are well-traveled and used to European hotels, you'll find this hotel adequate and quite nice in this price range. Located in an interesting vibrant neighborhood with hand access to the Metro, trains, & CDG.
• Gary (4/5): Good Location but disappointing and outdated. - The stay was ok. But the hotel is disappointing. We booked the room with private bathroom, however the bathroom is only a shower with sink and very cramped. The toilet is a shared one at the end of a hall. No lift, so you have to carry your luggage up to reception then further depending upon what floor your room is on. The hotel is way out of date, floor creaks, is warped and floor coverings are not good. The room we had was cramped, only 1 power outlet, bathroom door would not shut as it was warped. No air conditioning. Bed was hard. The best thing was the location as it is close to Monte Marte.

• Yury (8/5): - The location. The Metro station- just a few hundred feet away. Moulin Rouge- a few blocks away. Sacre-Coeur five-ten minutes walk. A lot of cafes, restaurants and stores are around. Shower and sink in the room. Two things I don't like. First- the restroom was on the end of our floor. Second- my room was on 4-th floor but practically on the 5-th floor. And climb up on the end of the day was not so fan. I would recommend this hotel for the price for who wants to be nearest to main things and needs room for sleep.
• RobinK (10/5): - I have used this hotel many times in the past. It delivers exactly what is on the package and is a 2* hotel that delivers a 5* product smack in the heart of Montmartre, opposite the Anvers metro station. It could not be more convenient. The prices are a bargain. You need to be aware that there is no lift and rooms go up to the 4th floor. Rooms are an adequate size and all have a sink. Some have toilets and/or showers however some are shared facilities along the corridor. The hotel is adequately clean and has character. What I like are the massive opening windows, which allow the cool night air to circulate. In early September it was comfortable for sleeping. What I particularly like is the view of the Parisienne rooftops, which have so much character. The higher up you are the more spectacular the view. I love this hotel.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Spacious hotel Room close to attractions - The hotel is very small and hard to spot on the street. It’s very outdated. We stayed in room with a loft which was very big and convenient for our family of 3 children. The bathroom which consists of a toilet and sink where in the loft with a glass door so not very private if traveling with friends. The shower is also not exactly a room if it’s own as it’s at the main door, but there is another door leading into the main room that can be closed to make it seem like a small shower room. There is no fans or air conditioning which made it difficult because it was 38 degrees there during our stay. There is a large window which is a safety concern with children. The room is very spacious. I would recommend this hotel for price and location conveniences. The Montmartre and other attractions are within walking distances along with the metro, a small grocery store and restaurants.
• Verified traveler (2/5): Aweful - We had to check out the next day and find another place to stay due to the mold we found above the shower. we had large luggage and had to get it up several large staircases. Also, it was odd to us that we had to turn in the room key each time we left the building. DO NOT STAY HERE!
• Ron (8/5): - We booked the 5-person room for out family of five. The best aspect of this hotel is the 2-level spacious room with 4 beds (one double bed and one single bed on the main level, and two single beds in the loft). Getting to the room requires climbing 3 flights of narrow stairs with no elevator. There's a shower and toilet en-suite: you enter through the shower room, and then the toilet is above in the loft. The room also has two tables with chairs (one on the main level and one in the loft) and some closet space in the main level, but otherwise it's fairly basic. There's no air conditioning, and just one big window; to get a breeze we had to keep the bathroom windows and doors open. The room was clean but somewhat decrepit (peeling paint, cracked floor tiles); the bedding was OK but not too comfortable. The location is very good. The hotel is just a few steps from the Anvers metro station, and two blocks away from the bottom of the park that leads up to the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur. These two blocks are lined with souvenir shops and various restaurants, though we preferred the restaurants near the Abbesses metro station, about 500m away. There are several supermarkets within a few blocks on Rue d'Orsel. The hotel is also a convenient 1km walk from Gare du Nord, though it's mostly uphill from the station to the hotel. The neighborhood itself feels safe. Overall we liked the hotel for its value, room space, and location.
• Verified traveler (8/5): - Very close to Scare Coeur, metro lines and a 15min walk to Gare du Nord so it makes a great base for a trip to Paris. The WiFi works well and its clean but fairly worn.
• Heidi (6/5): Value hotel - Older building and it shows. Room was clean and had daily room service. We had an in-room shower and the water was hot and plentiful. We had a shared toilet at the end of the hall and it was always clean and we'll stocked. Bed was comfortable. Had to leave room key when we went out. Underground station in front of hotel was perfect for easy access. Street is a main traffic street, so it could be noisy at night if you want to leave the window open Overall it was fine for sleeping, showering, and spending the day exploring the area.
• May (6/5): - Central location for Montmartre but very old hotel and very warm rooms so if you leave the windows open, the noise from the area keeps you up until wee hours of morning. The carpet is stained, the bathrooms are frightening. The staff are very friendly and they change all the bedding and towels daily but the overall condition of the hotel is extremely dated and dirty

• Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly staff, clean. - The location was nice. Just under Sacré-Cœur. Staff were friendly and nice house keeping. Hotel was old and small, shower hose was almost broken, but we understand that it is old building and not easy to fix those kind of things. Wi-fi connection was slow and it valid every 24 hours.

Вed linen is clean and towels are changed every day But the he hotel is old and dirty ... There are only two sockets in the room, if you have the talent to find them... I would not recommend his hotel to finicky guests. And I would not advise to stay at the hotel to my friends . But I would probably come back here again, because for this price the quality leaves no questions

• Dennis (8/5): From Paris with Love - The staff was kind (the kindest french people we met, actually). The hotel in itself is a bit run down. The rooms are small and there are not toilets in the rooms, which is a big minus. The location is good, however at it's a bit of a rough neighbourhood, especially at night. A word of advice; Be very aware of pocket thieves. My girlfriend got her phone stolen in the Metro, eventhough we were carefull.

• Johnny (8/5): No Frills, No Less Than What You Need - After researching this place I booked 5 nights and I was more than satisfied. I got exactly what I needed; a bed to sleep in and a shower. All other times I was awake I was exploring Paris. The staff were friendly and accommodating, tho I am pretty low maintenance. Wifi was reliable and had to be renewed every 24 hours. Not a big deal. Key had to be left at the desk when I went out but there is someone there 24/7 so again, not an issue. Metro Anvers is right across the street, Moulin Rouge is a short walk up the street and The funicular to the Sacree Cour is right around the corner. A great and accessible area to make your hub while in Paris. Lots of public transit options, cafe's and bars, grocery stores... everything you need. Hotel Montpellier isn't a luxury hotel, nor is it meant to be. It's a basic lodging for someone who wants a safe and comfy place to sleep, which will save you money for more important things like shopping and dining!

• Megan (6/5): The room was large and no frills. - We stayed in the big family room which was awkward to get to (lots of stairs and you entered in the bathroom), but a large room with a loft. There was a toilet upstairs and a shower in the bottom part of the room. The room had zero frills, but the beds were decent and fine for the price. The location was excellent, right next to the Angers metro station, a small park (we had kids with us) and close to Sacre Coeur. The staff was accommodating with our luggage before and after our stay.

Room is small but it's Paris so duh. And you will be out seeing the city. Its a safe room to sleep in and keep luggage. Breakfast is light but quite good. My father and I enjoyed our stay here greatly.

Staff kindly found a warm room however took it upon themselves to move all my personal belongings to the new room when I went out without warning me! The floors of the corridors were very noisy when someone walked to the toilet at the end of the corridor. Absolutely no sound proofing.

• Steven (8/5): Good budget option in Paris. - The staff here are lovely and the hotel is very conveniently located in Montmartre. The hotel itself is quite old and the rooms do not have their own toilets which is a drawback, but for a budget option in an inner-city location this is a good option. Recommended.
• Rafidah (8/5): Love the comfortable room and location near metro - Only spend one night, but like the atmosphere. My kids loved it too. The room was on the 3rd floor, no lift, so good luck if you have a lot of luggage! The "attic-like" room was a hit with my sons.
• Roland (8/5): Safe, comfortable, clean but scruffy, and friendly - It's a fascinating area, whose interest means you don't want to linger in your hotel. This one is pretty basic, but also very agreeable. It opens on to the Boulevard Rochechoart by a single, narrow doorway and there are stairs up to reception (no lift or 'elevator'). Our room had its own basin and shower (functional, but no-frills!) and a very comfortable double bed. No kettle, phone, TV, or loo ... the loo, down the corridor, was perfectly OK. Important things (like automatic lights on the landings if you move about at night) work fine; unimportant things (like painting the skirting boards) are neglected. I'd say clean (no mice, spiders, dust bunnies etc) but scruffy sums it up. The various receptionists were charming ... nothing too much trouble ... and the free wifi was (perhaps surprisingly) excellent. A room at the front of the hotel is going to be noisy, given that Montmartre is so busy at night; but I slept fine on each of three nights. The reception area is a kind of small landing with four chairs (one of which is the domain of the hotel cat) and a coffee-machine ... so it's not a place you're going to be able to hang out for long. After checkout we left our luggage in the kitchen, and retrieved it later. I didn't sample the breakfast ... but you can get a first-class breakfast in several cafes close by, so that really isn't a worry. Recommended if you want to be safe, comfortable, and have money in your pocket to spend on something other than hotel luxuries.
• Sam (6/5): Good location, cheap but outdated - A cheap last minute booking for a Paris city break that is 2min walk from Montmartre. Not the best comfort with no TV and only 1 plug socket. Book it if you are just using it to crash out at night and out during the day.

• Asuka (6/5): Better than I expected ! - Overall I was happy about this hotel. First I was comfortable and felt safe at this hotel. That's important for me because I stayed by myself. It was located big street and closed to Metro station and big station. So I could come back to hotel even night time after sight seeing and have an easy access to go to airport. And there were only 5 rooms at each floor, I didn't feel I was around too many strangers at hotel too. Second it was clean and quiet enough by double window. It's simple room but I just needed to sleep and stayed safe. They cleaned the room and changed the bed sheets and towels every day. It was goza not carpet on the floor, so I could stay with bare feet relax. And I didn't need to wait for bathroom because only some people stay at each floor, it was just convenience.
• Fayçal (2/5): Does not deserve to be on expedia plateform - First of all I wonder why I was charged twice the same amount of money for the same stay and the same room I purchased through Expedia ??? Even the phone call I made to the hotel couldn't help me sort out this issue because they were not cooperative enough. To my astonishment, they asked to add 30 Euros to be able to have a private bathroom although in the room description this was part of the deal... How can a serious service provider like expedia ensure deals with unscrupulous hotels. Would never use it again and want the second payment to be reimbursed. Fayçal Ben Salem

• Pamster (6/5): Hotel MontPellier review - This hotel was quaint and very close to metro and the Basilica a few blocks away; great location. We had the 5 person room with the loft which was comfortable and a neat set up but there definitely needs to be some cleaning up of dry wall esp in the bathroom upstairs and when people walk above you, it is very annoying. However, for our needs of sleep in a safe hotel that had good security and had a great location, it suited our purposes. We didn't try the breakfast but it is offered extra 6 euros, I think, the staff was friendly but didn't have a lot of suggestions on tours etc. Overall, would stay here again for familiarity. Pricing was affordable.

• Brenda (6/5): Affordable, clean, and great customer service - If you are open-minded, tolerant, and you are just looking for a clean place to stay... then this might be your option. Let's be honest: Paris is an expensive city and you want to find affordable hotels, but this is one of the cheapest you can find. Look, this is not a 5-star place, but it's simple, basic, and located pretty close to Sacre-Coeur and Barbes. So if you are looking for an affordable and clean place to stay, this is your place. But if you're looking for something that has everything EVERYTHING then this is not your option. Oh, by the way, if you like cats, maybe you'll get the chance to meet their cat Bianca. She's pretty cute and calm.

• CDNTraveller (2/5): Fleabag hotel - When I arrived and opened the door to the hotel I was overcome by the smell of urine. The hotel smelled and so I kept the windows wide open when I returned and kept them open a little bit while I was sleeping. The hotel looks like it should be condemned because there is not a straight surface once you pass the check-in desk. This is supposed to be a non-smoking hotel, but many guests were smoking. I am sensitive to cigarette smoke, several times I woke up choking at times from the French cigarette smoke. The bathroom and shower door frames looked as if they had been kicked in and the bathroom frame was such that if someone wanted they could see you using the facilities. All doors, light switches etc. were caked with dirt. This was likely some sort of rooming house or hotel that was used for prostitution. Because I had prepaid and it was the last portion of my vacation I just made the best of it. I am shocked that Expedia has this on their hotels as one would think there is some sort of standard - I took photos of the crooked stairwells, the surfaces, etc. In my room the sink was pulled away from the wall. I realize Paris is expensive but if this is your only visit to Paris find a place that is on a metroline that is outside the central part of the city and ensure that you read the reviews to ensure it is reasonable.

• Verified traveler (6/5): - The stay was purely to be perfectly positioned between Gar edu Nord and Pigalle/Montmartre. The room was clean, as was the linen - furniture a little aged and worn but the hotel did have good WiFi - I got a good comfortable bed for the one night I needed!

• Valentina (4/5): Good location - Staff is very rude, there was only one man that was always very nice. Hotel says it has WiFi but really it works on a username and password basis that expires every 4-8 hours, and was quite slow in speed. If you ask for more WiFi codes than the number of people in the room, every time you go ask for them you have to explain that you have more devices (I went to Paris for business reasons and needed to used many devices, I did not like justifying myself every time and getting bad looks). Rooms were OK, no TV or fans(it was 30ºC when I stayed). Sink didn't work properly and only had hot water in the tap (not nice to brush your teeth with boiling hot water). Showers were full of hair and with wet floors all the time.

• Charla (10/5): beautiful - This is a beautiful place to stay. The free breakfast was awesome. There was a restaurant open late on site. Our room was huge and lovely with a bathtub. The grounds and hotel are magnificent. We would definitely stay here again. The location is great if you have a car or it is easy to get a taxi. It is a short ride into town or the train station. This would be a great place for a romantic getaway or for a family.

• Anna (6/5): Basic but functional. - First impressions were very seedy hotel. Had a twin room with en suite shower which was clean.. the room was cramped and the toilet was at the other end of the hall. Only one electrical socket which was behind the bed. Not good if you have more than one gadget to charge overnight! If on a tight budget, hotel is ideal as shops and restaurants/bars along the street, and Metro station opposite. No restaurant in hotel and breakfast is a croissant and coffee which is on a surcharge. Very noisy main road. However despite room being on third floor over the street, windows are double glazed and kept out noise when closed, but hot September required them to be open so sleep was disturbed by the noise. However, as out all day and evening sightseeing, only required room to sleep, so suitable for purpose of three night holiday. Only one vending machine in hotel in reception area, but was out of order.

• Steven (2/5): HORRIBLE - What a rat hole. I have no problem staying in a bad hotel for a cheap price. But this place was really terrible. A small smelly dirty trap with no power outlets! We couldn't charge our phones in our rooms. The rooms were so small that we couldn't even open the door and everything was old and smelly.

• Matt (8/5): Affordable hotel near Sacre-Coeur - This hotel is in a great location--across the street from the Anvers metro stop and a few blocks away from Sacre-Coeur. The hotel staff were great--friendly and very helpful. The room was tidy and had a nice big window but it had a little bit of a smell--maybe it's just because it's an old building.

First of all, it is not 3 star! Plus there is no toilet in the room and shower was in the room without a door and dirty all around ! Plus bed sheets are dirty and beggars are just at the rear of the hotel and facing the rooms, all using drugs etc.. Please, I'm already shocked that Expedia provided me this hotel. And all the info in the website was false! I'm a regular customer of you as you know, I feel so bad that I was let down and also my other 3 guests!
• Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent location - Excellent location for Montmatre sight seeing, and close to Metro, excellent friendly management/staff. Extremely good value for the price.
• Ben (2/5): Budget places good for night outs - The room was run down, no lifts to fourth floor and it wasn't easy to get up the stairs. The room was poorly ornamented and everything had a budget taste to it. Lampshades are not that expensive! Location was spot on, close to supermarkets and metro, a perfect location for one of two nights. If you want good quality of sleep may be look elsewhere.
• Phillip (2/5): Bad hotel in shady area - Theres only one bathroom and one shower per floor, which you have to share with everyone on the floor. Rooms are extremely tiny, beds are very uncomfortable. The area has lots of thieves and shady people. Not much better than a hostel.

• DrOS (6/5): Great value, wonderful staff, heart of the Montmartre, clean and cozy - Perfect for students of all ages. Located a few steps from the Anvers metro stop, between Pigalle and Barbès-Rochechouart. Easy metro to everywhere else in Paris, but you don't need to as the Sacre Coeur is a short walk away, as are a Post Office, Tourist Info kiosk, supermarkets, boulangeries, epiceries, drug stores, and anything else a weary traveler might need, plus the ever-lively Blvd Rochechouart street scene. A diamond in the rough. Note: electrical outlets are iffy, no toilets in the rooms, no blowdryer, towel rack, soapdish, or tissues provided either, so be ready to improvise.
• Verified traveler (6/5): not bad for the price you're paying - If you're looking for a nice fancy place to stay in paris. This may not be the hotel you want to stay in. On the flip side if you are looking for a cheap place to leave your bag and just sleep at night then this might be the way to go. The hotel is decent at most. They do keep it clean for the most part. And the staff is fairly nice. They do give you wifi access though you have to ask for an access code every 8 hours or so. The neighborhood is decent and during the day I don't think there's any problem though at night kt seems a little shady in my opinion. The good thing is that you are like 30 seconds away from the metro and it takes you everywhere. So like i said. If you're looking for something cheap and you're not planning on being in a romantic honeymoon at a nice hotel.. you can book this. Though there is better
• Verified traveler (8/5): Brilliant location - 5 mns away from the bottom of the funecular to go to Sacré Coeur and I had booked a big room - 4 beds - as that was the only choice so they gave me a smaller more suitable room and charged me less. That never happens as usually they just take your money. Lovely staff!
• firas (6/5): Get what you pay for of course - I got a single room with a shared bathroom and shower. Room condition obviously wasn't the best, but at least it didn't smell. Mattress wasn't very good or comfortable, but I survived. There's a sink inside the bedroom, and the bathroom and shower are shared, at least for room option I got. It was ~€45 for a night, which was one of the cheapest places I could find at the time on expedia.
• Tato Pezo (8/5): Good for Tourist Saving Money - In the overall, It was good for the kind of hotel. Although I thought that the shared bathroon was going to be a problem, in fact it wasn't after all because it was always there for us. Every day we went out at 11am and came back at 9pm or 10pm. We were just there to sleep. There's no TV, no good view and no room service, etc. You can have internet at the front desk by asking for it, then you've got a password and username that lasts 4 hours. After that, you have to ask for it again. I think the hotel location is really good. You have Montmartre and Moulin Rouge a few meters from the hotel. The Anvers Subway (Metro) is just in front so you can connect easily to any other attraction.
• Philippe (6/5): A place to sleep one night and move on. - My wife and I stayed there one night in a "room + shower" .. We were looking for a place to spend the night before we could take our train to somewhere else the next morning. The location is good, it is very close to Anvers subway station and you can walk to "Le Sacrés Coeur" which is nearby. Now there's nothing much to say about this hôtel. It is good if you are looking for a place to sleep and if you don't care about the comfort / cleanliness of your room.
