Guest Reviews
- Sally A (10/5): A good host - We never actually stayed in Luca's room. There was a mix up and the room was double booked. Luca however arranged for superior accommodation in a good location at no extra cost to ourselves. He personally took us to the new location and assisted with our luggage. He ensured that our visit to Venice went well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - ottima posizione e proprietario gentilissimo camere pulite ed accoglienti
- bruno (10/5): A recommander - Emplacement au centre du Rialto, formidable.
Chambre OK.
Accueil de Lucas vraiment super, en 2 jours vous vous êtes fait un ami.
Très bon petit déjeuner
A recommander sans problème
- EDGAR VLADIMIR (8/5): - Recomendable!
- Dann (10/5): Excellent Location - The hotel staff is very friendly, you feel at home. It is located in the best area of Venezia. I would definitely go back!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Just a place to crash - Having stayed at other, less expensive B&B's in the area, we were quite surprised at the bare-bones experience here. There wasn't any common lounge space. The room, though clean and neat, was small, with little space to put our things and just a single chair. The bathroom smelled strongly of mildew and had a tiny shower stall and no place to put your things. Nothing to see out the window but a noisy restaurant.
Tired from our travels, it was not a pleasure to relax here.
- Frédéric (10/5): Very well located for a short stay in Venice - Everything was fine. Lucca was very nice and welcoming and made us feel like at home. The room was comfortable with A/C, quiet - which was very surprising because it's in the heart of one of the most touristic area - and the breakfast was fancy and very good. Lucca offered his help for finding restaurants and good spots in the city, but we were there for the Biennale and the Pinault Foundation, so we didn't ask for anything, but I'm sure he can be very helpful as he's a true local. For sure a place I'd like to stay again when I'm back in Venice.
- Mihaela (10/5): Great location, friendly staff - The hotel is very close to Rialto Bridge - in the center of everything - food, shopping, walking, etc. Room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Lucas gave us some great recommendations of where to continue our tour of Italy which we did and were very happy. Thank you!
- patricia (10/5): Good b and b . - This bed and breakfast was in a great position near the Rialto bridge . Luca , the owner , was friendly and helpful . The room was clean and comfortable , though quite expensive , but this is Venice !
- Jaap (8/5): perfecte ligging in centrum Venetie - prima kamer goed bed midden in Venetie dus overal dichtbij
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Value Hotel - Cozy hotel, clean and charming. Great value and excellent location. Luca the hotel owner was super sweet.
- Danny (8/5): - Location in a very busy part of city, thus could be noisy. Luca, owner very helpful and considerate.
- Arrada (10/5): impressive location with great price! - The hotel is located near to everything we need e.g. the resturants, supermarket, phamacy, shops and stores. It also convenient to travel via water bus. The hotel owner and staff are very helpful and friendly. I'd love to recommend for everyone who about to travel to Venice.
- Giorgio (8/5): Good location and cofortable. - Ideal location and priced well. Hotels in the area very high.
The restaurant below has the same owner. We used it for lunch twice and both times had an excellent meal.
There was a small issue leaving when the woman left in charge insisted we had to pay when it was already paid in full. Her ability to speak any English disappeared when I passed her thr phone to speak to a Hotels.com rep. A call to the owner sorted it out.
- Amanda (10/5): - Loved it, will definitely stay here again...spacious and lovely room for great price in very convenient location.
- Esmee (8/5): Very nice - It was clean and close to a lot of things in venice!
- Andrew (8/5): Brilliant location, friendly and helpful owner. - Fantastic location 2 mins from Rialto Bridge allowed great walking access all around the main Venice islands.
- Mike (10/5): Great location to see Venice - Due to some on line information we were able get to the B&B with no trouble even though we had to have a couple if large suitcases up and down stairs on the bridges etc. We had received an email to say no one was in to welcome us but it was no trouble as the instructions led us to find our room easily which was a good size and comfortable. As with most continental places there was no kettle and beverages to make a cups which would have been ideal.
Only 5 mins walk from the Rialto Bridge water bus stop, and then a 8 to 10 minute walk to San Marco. An ideal position.
Breakfast was very good, continental style with croissants, fruit, bread rolls, cheese and delicious cakes. There we met Luca, the Manager, who was very friendly and helpful.
We were there for two nights and managed to fit in visits to the Correr museum at opposite end of San Marco piazza to the Basilica, a guided walking tour including inside of the Basilica, took the lift up the clock tower for stunning views of Venice and finally a visit to the Doges Palace.
There is a restaurant under the B&B which looked fine but we used one named Malibran just next door and the staff were friendly and the food good.
We highly recommend B&B Barababao and Venice is delightful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good location - Lucca was every helpful. one boat ride from airport to Rialto then very short walk.
- Jennifer (10/5): - This little B&B was exactly what we needed in Venice. It was clean, convenient, and Luca is great! The hot water and water pressure was just what we needed to soothe the achy muscles at the end of our days!
- Daniela (10/5): Nice hotel close to Rialto Bridge,Piazza San Marco - Clean, charming little hotel. Very good breakfast, with fresh fruit, Italian pastries, excellent coffee.
The owner (Luca) takes good care of the hotel and makes the guests feel welcome.
- Greg (10/5): Great B&B in a perfect position near Rialto. - Couldn't be happier with Barababao. Luca went out of his way to make our stay memorable. Venice is a challenge for someone with a mobility issue and his assistance was outstanding. Great restaurant underneath also.
- Diego (10/5): Best place to stay in Venice - Location Location and service. The hotel is very close to Rialto Bridge. Lucas, the owner, is great. His level of service is hard to find on the island. The room is cleand with a very confortable shower and AC. The cleaning of the room was a plus.
Lucas, offered breakfast everyday, which includes a croassaint, juice, coffee and fruits. The restaurant downstairs offers great food with a 10 percent discount if your staying at the bed and breafast. The place os modern and up to date.
- Andie (10/5): Perfect Location in Venice - We absolutely loved the location of the B&B in Venice. We were able to walk everywhere and only ever be 15-30 minutes away when we wanted to return. Luca, the owner, was kind and friendly and very helpful. He went over and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Also, he serves the best breakfast with little pizza pastries!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice spot in Cannaregio - This was the first hotel we stayed in on our honeymoon in Italy. We arrived early after our overnight flight, and were told our room would be ready in about an hour, so we left our bags stored and headed out for lunch. When we came back around noon, we went right into our room, which was ready for us. The room was compact, but not too small. It's "downtown" Venice, after all! We were at the back of the building, which overlooked the courtyard of the downstairs restaurant, but after hours you had the kind of hushed quiet that only comes from being in a city with no cars, motos, etc. The breakfast was good - fresh pastries, tasty fresh fruit, tea or espresso, and so forth. Not much protein, but breakfast in Italy is typically lighter. The proprietor is quite friendly, and happy to chat over breakfast if you need recommendations for things to do. The location is convenient, just a 5-10-minute walk from the Rialto vaporetto stop. (A note on local transport - you can get the boat directly from/to the airport from the Rialto stop as well, but we found that taking the bus to Piazzale Roma and then the vaporetto to Rialto involved less walking and cost about the same in the end.)
- Meghan (8/5): - Great location close to Rialto bridge. Small room but all we needed for a couple nights. The air conditioning wasn't working so the owner waved the city tax. Good breakfast too!
- Barbara (10/5): Wonderful holiday - Luca, who runs the B&B,was friendly, helpful, always smiling, and happy to give out reliable, practical information on where to go,where to eat etc.The breakfasts were a treat. The Venetian people were warm and welcoming. One of our best short holidays ever, and my wife and I are both in our seventies.
- William (8/5): - Luca took very good care of us. Breakfast was great, and the room was clean and nice.
- NELSON Y MARY (10/5): - VERY WELL.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Reasonable price in excellent location - Nothing fancy but clean and convenient. Breakfast was simple but reasonable. Good value in great location. Restaurant downstairs has some good food at reasonable prices as well.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great place - Nice place to stay close to everything easy walk to water bus stop. Great restaurant just down stairs.
- robert (10/5): Super stay - Luca, the owner/manager was super great. Gave excellant directions and info. that we needed. He even met us on the street the day of arrival, because the B&B is a little hard to find at first, when you arrive, but after its really easy, thanks to Luca. He also has an excellant restaraunt right under the B& B.
- shelly (10/5): Excellent B&B, perfect Location! - We stayed here for 2 nights in venice. Highly recommend!! It's in a prime spot close to all the action. The owner is super friendly and will offer any local information. The daily breakfast was delicious and the rooms very clean and comfortable! Would definitely stay again for the price!!
- Roland (10/5): 2nd time at hotel - We love the owner and close to all water transportation with great restaurant on first floor.
We will use again
- david (8/5): charming b and b - near the rialto ,difficult to find st first but so is the rest of venice. Owner was very friendly and helpful. A 10 percent discount at the restaurant beneath and has good food. I would return to this b and b for location and price
- Karen (10/5): Great location - The location was fabulous. There were great shops and restaurants nearby. It was within walking distance to the water taxi. The owner was a wonderful host. I would definitely recommend it.
- Dakota (8/5): - Was a very nice stay, in a convenient location, close to just about everything you could want to see. Our air didn't work the first day so we were miserable but as soon as we told the owner he had it fixed before we got back from our day out. He was so nice, and accommodating and the breakfast was very tasty. The room was simple but everything we needed!
- Kendon (10/5): - Luca was AWESOME! He took time out to give us some pointers on locations and things to see and do!
- Ana (8/5): Good - Well located, the staff very kind. It is just 4 rooms but enough to pass some days in Venetia.
- Kathleen (6/5): Perfectly adequate accommodations - Luca was great. Breakfast was wonderful. Dinner at restaurant downstairs was delicious. Room was a little small for three people but overall fine. Place was hard to find and we would have benefitted from getting directions in advance, but we had difficulty with Internet and didn't connect in time by email. We would stay there again.
- Andrea (10/5): The Bogeyman Hotel - Lucca, the owner, was the ultimate host. Breakfasts were great and Lucca is a great conversationalist! He told us all about his family. He answered every question we asked. Great location! Osteria/Restaurant on ground floor was exceptional for lunch and dinner. Great selection. Great food. Great time in Venice! Thanks, Lucca.
- Lauren (10/5): Nice place in the middle of the city - Great location by Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square. Many restaurants nearby. Somewhat nosy at night since the windows opened to a square with many people eating and walking through. Luca, the host, is extremely helpful and friendly. He provided a map and directions to different sites. We very much enjoyed our time here.
- Andrew (10/5): romantic getaway - couldnt ask for a better place in location and for friendly hosts.
- Michael (10/5): Barababao! - This place is great!! Luca is a pleasure and excellent host. The rooms are smaller but plenty of space for 2 and clean. It can be tricky to find but dont be dumb. Google map the Rialto bridge and save it on your phone, its only two streets up. And use a map, you will need it. Luca gives you one if you can manage to find the B&B without it(Google map pic on cellular I mentioned above), so you may not have to buy one. It took me about a day and a half be able get around Venice without it. The price wasnt that bad considering everything in venice is over priced. As is the rest of Italy. Luca's restaurant below the B&B is good too. They have a mixed grilled fish dish which is real good. There is a small place around the corner and over a small bridge on the edge of a small plaza that is awesome. A very nice asian lady and her family run it. You can get a drink, salad and a main dish for 10 euros. And the food is amazing. I got pizza, but my wife got seafood pasta that was out of this world. Been in italy for over two weeks and its the best AND cheapest Ive had or seen. Go figure. There is also a walk in pizza shop right next door. Closest ive seen to real NY pizza back home. Sorry Italy, aint nothin like a NY pizza. Anyways. Luca's B&B Barababao is a great place and I would recommend. Close to everything. Breakfast is great.
- K.S. (10/5): - Very nice and helpful owners. Clean room. Good breakfast. Not expensive.
- The Simpsons (8/5): Excellent position - The room was small but good enough for a short stay. Breakfast was good and the coffee ( cappuchino) was great. All staff were helpfull.Comfortable bed. En suite bathroom also small but adequate. Certainly ok for a couple.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent accomodation for the price - The room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was great, location was fantastic. Great accomodation for the price. Very satisfied.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Fortunately, we used Google maps on our phone to locate this place. Finding places in Venice is not as simple as one may think. When we arrived at noon, our room was being prepared and the host let us store our baggage in the bed and breakfast until we got back in the evening. She gave clear instructions to using the keys and how to get back into the apartment complex and into our room. The location was fantastic - close to the Rialto Bridge and about a 10-15 minute walk to St. Mark's Square. The breakfast was simple but adequate and we thoroughly enjoyed our espresso with a croissant, some fruit and orange juice. The bed was comfortable but the blanket was a little thin. The apartment is above a restaurant, so expect some noise into the night, which we did, but we were so tired, we fell asleep so it wasn't as noticeable. Overall, it was a very good experience at the bed and breakfast and we recommend it.
- Alex (10/5): Nice local place to stay - Great location with a nice clean room and friendly staff
- Susan (10/5): great location in Venice - We had a great location in Venice, very friendly hosts. We wished we could have stayed more than one night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Stay in Venice in June - To say this Bed and Breakfast was hard to find is an understatement and the locals really don't want you asking them directions, once we found the bed and breakfast the owner was no where to be found!! A few phone calls later he arrived and the room and breakfast were good, the room was above a resturant that can be loud at times late into the night.
- Sharon Lea (8/5): Very helpful inn keepers - The owners of the B&B were extremely helpful, even walking down to meet us when we couldn't find our way. The room was small but doable for 2. It is right in the heart of everything -- just a little too much so. There is a restaurant and several shops immediately beneath our room and it was noisy at night. But all-in-all, a very Venice-like room.
- Michelle (10/5): Lovely stay - My husband and I returned from here last week. Its a lovely hotel with great location (less than 5 minutes to Rialto bridge). The owners are lovely and friendly, even leaving us breakfast in our room on our last day as we were departing around 6am. Really good value for money! Would definitely recommend!
- Paul and Sharon (10/5): Venice in April. - We were made very welcome despite being a day late (due to an unexpected flight delay).
The room was clean and looked exactly like the photo on the internet. The location is good, the breakfast was simple but sufficient - served with a smile! No kettle but a friendly restaurant down stairs.
Had a great few days. Thanks.
- Andy (10/5): Central Location - I stayed here for two nights and had a great experience at this bed and breakfast. The two staff members are really helpful and genuinely concerned about your stay in Venice (and also speak good English). The bed and breakfast is a little hard to find, to no fault of its own, as everything in Venice is pretty hard to find. The B&B is centrally located near good shopping, food, the canals, and San Marco's Square. I would stay here again.
- Elicia (8/5): Welcoming and convenient - Perfect location near Ponto Realto, so easy to navigate back to whenever we got a little lost (signs all over the city point to Ponto Realto). The room wasn't extravagant and the paint was peeling a bit, but overall it clean and comfortable, decorated with pretty venetian details. The WiFi, hot water, and air conditioning all worked well. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. They were available to help when we had questions, but weren't overly nosy, as can happen at some B&Bs. We are so happy we found this Bed & Breakfast Barababao and would recommend to anyone staying in Venice.
- atissmits (6/5): Nice but very simple - The B&B is nice, but very simple. The breakfast is quite poor. The location on other hand is very very good. It is 5 min walk from the boat station and the B&B is right next to the main street. The owners are nice and even contacted me before we arrivied and meet us in the B&B. Some people have complained that they had to get the keys from other side of the city but this was not the case with us. Rooms are simple. Bed and bathroom. Cold though. They said that they are planing to implement some kind of heating. If you don't plan to spend the time in the B&B then this is your perfect option. Colse to everything and cheep.
- Evan (10/5): Great Location; Wonderful Hosts - This little B&B is right smack in the center of everything you want to be near, yet it's quiet and inexpensive. And, the owner is willing to help find anything you want around the city (and takes special requests for breakfast). We would definitely go back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel close to San Marcos - It is a quiet nice place, very close to everything you must visit in Venice
- Ivan (10/5): A night in Venezia - I was staying there only for a night and really enjoyed it. Hotel was difficult to find as the actual streets names were different from the names on the map and the B&B Barababao is actually on "Corte Amadi 5835" and not "Cannaregio 5835" like Expedia is showing. I was also unlucky that the day I arrived was Tuesday and it was closing day - so there was no one at the hotel at the time of my arrival and there was a note on the gate to ring on the owners mobile. Unfortunately my mobile was not working in Italy, but passing gentleman call the owners for me, so I was actually lucky. Room was very clean, shower small and hotel was close to everything. The breakfast is served from 8:30, but due to my earlier train to Trieste the owners served me breakfast at 8:00 and I really appreciated it. I would stay there again for longer to enjoy Venezia more :-)))))
- caglar (10/5): Perfect location! - The hotel is in very good shape and has a very good location. It is just 2 minutes away from the Rialto bridge. Easy to reach from the airport with the Alilaguna vaporettos. Also very easy to reach to San Marco Square. I would definetly recommend this hotel to everyone.
- Alison (6/5): Good location - Difficulty checking in unless you arrive at right time. Staff rather unhelpful and not particularly welcoming. Room overlooks courtyard with restaurant tables and pretty noisy until around midnight despite double glazed windows.
- Donna (10/5): Super bed and breakfast! - I spent 5 nights, wlth my daughter,in this bed and breakfast at the beginning of August and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room was lovely, more than adequate and spotlessly clean, the air conditioning worked well, the shower was great and the water always hot! The bathroom was cleaned every day and fresh towels were provided - I can't fault the place and thought it very reasonably priced. I had been to Venice before and didn't find it difficult to locate at all - turn immediately right before the Church if you are coming from Rialto Bridge and there it is in the corner. We thought it was in a great central location and found it very quiet, despite it's close proximity to busy areas. The owners who run the ground foor restaurant were busy in the evenings but always polite and helpful if you talked to them in the mornings over breakfast. The continental breakfast was also good and I have already decide to stay here again when I next return to Venice! A brilliant find!
- Peter (10/5): Barababao - pleasantly different side of Venezia - We were glad we read some previous reviews which described difficulties in finding the Barababao, as it prompted us to have a fresh look at the maps and directions for finding it, and also (VERY helpful) at a few pictures of the street-view of the very distinctive Osteria Barababao (restaurant) which the B and B rooms are above. Apart from the very biggest streets and canals, maps of Venezia are not particularly reliable, and so we were glad we took the trouble to do our homework - we found the Barababao without any problems - most useful hint... "if you reach the church, on your right" you have (just) gone too far. With its quirky decor and somewhat "dark" themes, Osteria Barababao is perhaps not for everyone, but we found the staff very helpful and willing to share a chat - for example, one of our waiters told us that "barababao" in the local dialect means "bogeyman". The food at Barababao was terrific, and it was easy to get to and from the main sights, both by water and foot. We loved it and would definitely stay there again, but if you have conservative tastes, check the pictures of the Osteria first, as it may not be everyone's cup of tea.
- Verified traveler (10/5): In the heart of everything! - Great place! Very clean and extremely well located!
- D&P (8/5): Well priced, clean and convenient B&B - We stayed here on May 18th for one night (room 3). The hotel was well priced, clean and convenient to the Rialto Alilaguna water bus stop and San Marco's Square. It was a bit hard to find, like most places in Venice because of the lack of street signs that don't match any maps. We were lucky enough to find a mailman who helped us. Pick up an Alilaguna map on your way in at the airport, and the B&B is located between Salizada San Giovanni Grisostomo and Galle Del Milion. Like other reviews, look for Osteria Barababao, and the B&B entrance door is to the right of it. A good landmark is the big red devil hand statue holding the menu in front of the Osteria. You can buzz the owners at the door or walk into the Osteria to check-in. Both are owned by the same family, which were nice and spoke ok English. The internet connection in the rooms are good and free. There is a 3 euro city tax and 3 euro tourist tax per person, which you pay in cash when you check-out. This is common in Italy. We didn't get to try the breakfast, but we did try the Osteria for lunch and the Hotel Malibran Ristorante next door for dinner (which had the best pizza we had in Italy)! The only issue is the key to the upstairs main door (turn is all the way to the left and a little) and the room door (turn it all the way to the right and a little). Overall, we'd recommend staying here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very nice b&b, but landlord hard to contact - The b&b is clean and located in a good location of Venice near the Rialto bridge & is only 15 mins from San Marco's Square. I have no complaints about the lodgings themselves; however, I did have issue when, upon our arrival, there was no one on-site to check us in. I had emailed the address posted on the b&b website prior to departure for Italy 2 weeks before but never received a reply. Upon arriving at the b&b, I tried calling the cell number listed on the door but got an "out of service" message. Long story short, an employee of the restaurant downstairs (both the restaurant and the b&b are owned by the same family) happened to arrive to open the restaurant for dinner, and he was able to contact the landlord and to let us in.
I do recommend staying at this b&b, but you might want to time your arrival for when the restaurant is open (during lunch and dinner hours--they break between the two) and the friendly and helpful staff there will easily be able to help you out.
Breakfast is continental style (rolls, yogurt, juice, coffee)--nothing to write home about, but it's filling.
If you do stay at Barababao b&b, definitely try a meal at the restaurant, which, though pricey, is SUPER good. B&b tenants get a discount at the restaurant, and all customers seem to get a free prosecco apperitif.
- Nichole (10/5): I would stay there again! - Hotel Barababao has a great location! It is about a 3 minute walk to the Rialto Bridge and a 10-15 minute walk to Plaza San Marcos. It is clean and plenty big. The breakfast was not a buffet style but it was high quality and was plenty filling. The dinner at the hotel's restaurant was delicious. It was the best food we ate in all of Italy! The staff and owners of the hotel and restaurant were very kind and helpful.
If you are looking for the hotel beware it is hard to find the name of the street and the hotel is not directly located on the street the address indicates. If you pass the church you passed the hotel. We were standing behind the church for about an hour trying to find the hotel. Go down the street where the front doors of the church are located. The name of the hotel is vertical and looks like a restaurant. That is because the hotel is above the restaurant. If you can't find the hotel and you ask someone ask for the restaurant and you will find the hotel.
- Rosie (8/5): Barababao - Venice - Hotel was very clean and well kept. The washroom was especially nice, since it looked like it was recently renovated with updated shower, ceramic tile and plumbing. The room was of course very basic with 2 beds and a TV that didn't work for 2 of the 3 days we were there, but we really didn't spend too much time in the hotel so we didn't really care.
Breakfast was just OK, as we had good coffee, but croissants were the commercial kind you get in a box from the supermarket. Staff was nice & friendly, and surrounding area was very nice with lots of stores and not too far from the Rialto bridge.
All in all,,,,a good experience!
- Ana (8/5): Fun experience - My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Barababao. The location is perfect and the price is right. The room was comfortable and clean. We didn't interact with the staff much, but did talk to the owner while having dinner at the restaurant that is associated with the B & B. The food was very good so we ended up going there twice. We would definitely go back.
