Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very comfortable, great service, great location. Not far walk from attractions or good restaurants.
- sweeney (8/5): - Good location clean and comfortable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Steps away from excellent pubs and an easy walk to the river, hop on hop off bus, etc.. Rooms are comfortable and clean. The building is old but nicely kept and clean. They serve a great breakfast. Great value here. Convenient to Paddywagon to embark on any single or multi day tours you might be considering.
- Jacinta (10/5): Irish gem. - Terrific staff to whom nothinf wad a bother. Beautiful siiting room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely staff, great location, quiet where our room was, and a beautiful lab/Newfoundland mix to say hello to.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect location, very clean and near from the most famous zones on Dublín
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location was great, and the B&B is super quaint. There were just a couple things that could be improved to get full ratings. For example, one of the glasses in the room was really dirty. Also, fabric softener would do the towels a wonder. They could also update the lights in the bathrooms because they were dark and yellow.
- Geraldine (8/5): - Great location for Busaras
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable and cosy room. Clean. Helpful and friendly people. Pleasing building
- Verified traveler (10/5): Grand - Twas grand alright
- April (8/5): - Good location. Most of the staff were friendly. The room was initially really cold, so we had to get the staff to show us how to work the heater (wasn't immediately obvious). Some hot water, but not consistently.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not worth it at all - Would never stay there again. Bad neighbourhood, bathroom was filthy, the water coming from the taps was a yellowish - brown in colour, my room backed on to an alley with constant truck traffic, so it was noisy.
I literally left after an hour. Dropped my keys off, walked out the door and never came back. They got my money, but I didn't care, I was not going stay there any longer than I had to
- Alberto (2/5): Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place - Place was not clean. Found hair on the sink. Hot water didn’t work in the shower. Shower was so tiny I barely fit in there. The room was so cold. I tried turning up at the Heat and that didn’t work. Outlets behind the bed didn’t work. Lots of street noise. Had to go up seven flights of stairs with a 20 kilo bag. That wasn’t fun.
- MW (8/5): Tour of Ireland - Very near by to train and bus stations. If you are joining the Paddy Wagon Tours, most convenient as pickup point Paddy Palace is just next to hotel. And within 15 mins walk to town city and shopping.
- Rebecca (8/5): Great area, spacious room! - Located in a great area near shopping streets and not a far walk to Dublin Castle or other points of interest! We walked to everything and found the hotel pretty Central. A tad noisy because it's downtown but quiets near midnight, not outrageous. Room was bigger than I had expected for what European hotels were described to me as. Bed was fairly comfy.
- peter (10/5): Anchors away! - Great location friendly staff and great room
- Denise (6/5): Too Tiny - The shower is for a munchkin.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Convenient location, only a few minutes' walk to major sightseeing, Connolly Station, and tour departures. The room and facilities were clean upon our arrival, and the staff is very friendly, especially the adorable dog June that greets all of the guests. Our room and the hallways were in need of a little maintenance, but it was purely cosmetic and didn't interfere with our stay. A little new grout in the shower and a fresh paint job wouldn't hurt.
- Andrew C (8/5): - B&B was lovely but having a room in the basement below the road level wasn’t fantastic.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Near to the city centre. Staff very helpful in providing information on buses, and how to get around
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great comfortable place centrally located with tasty breakfast!
- Janet (8/5): - Chose this hotel because it was close to where our tour was leaving from early in the morning and returning late the following night. Hotel staff were very pleasant. Nice, clean accommodations. They "stored" our luggage free when we arrived early and stayed late. Only concern was you have to carry bags up quite a few steps to second floor - then there is an elevator.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I had troubles in my check in, due a mistake from the office and they wanted to charched me twice, therefore, I waited a lot of time after arrived at 8 pm when the check in shoul be at 2pm , even though i had to wait.Adding to this they highlight the statement' no breakfast'.To sumup as a tourist , very bad welcome.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Homophobic hotel owner - My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and were made to feel very uncomfortable and unsafe. At check in, the male hotel owner interrogated us about our bed choice (two women wanting only one bed), did not hide his disapproval, and then was generally rude to us every time we saw him. Right before we left we met a woman hotel owner, who was very nice and helpful. This review might be different if we had only encountered her.
- Margaret (10/5): Warm Irish Welcome - Very welcoming and accommodating. Good location; easy to get to transportation and major streets within Dublin. Extremely helpful personnel.
- Michelle (6/5): Good location. - Good location, lots of restaurants w walking distance.
- Bryan (8/5): - nicely situated close to wherever you want to go.
- Phil (8/5): - Hotel was clean, comfortable and very convenient for seeing Dublin. No air conditioning but only one hot night.
- Frank (8/5): Decent Basic Accommodation in Dublin City Centre - I was only there for one night and picked it because it was close to a stop for the airport bus. It was very convenient to an excellent restaurant in my guide book and not far from the main shopping streets. The room was very basic, the reception person helpful, the wi-fi strong, and that's about it.
- Suzanne (8/5): Pleasantt - Anchor house very sweet owners very accommodating great staff and Juno house Dog just as sweet. It was a stop over took the open tour bus to see the area that was relaxing Found great scones & Cappuccino at Honest Frank
Great Italian meal at TOTO then we are off so pleasant short visit
- Lynn (8/5): Enjoyable - Have steps to deal with, rooms are kind of small, great breakfast, friendly helpful staff, close to the bus station walking distance to the city center. I would stay there again! 👍
- Amanda (10/5): - We stayed here on our first night in Ireland after a super early arrival in Dublin and had a really nice stay. The hotel is very conveniently located and, though parking is not included, there is an easily accessible municipal lot where overnight parking was pretty reasonably priced. Walking distance from central Dublin restaurants and bars. The room was comfortable though the twin beds are very narrow. Staff was very nice and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Convenient location for Dublin city centre. Staff very friendly and welcoming.
- Nic (8/5): Cute B&B - Very cute bed and breakfast though can get a little loud being on the Main Street. Main office opened 24/7 which is a great added security feature.
- surya (8/5): great location in downtown dublin - great location in downtown Dublin. easy walk to everything. Nice clean rooms. pleasant people.
there is a small car park behind for a fee
- Verified traveler (6/5): Bleach smell overpowered my sleep. - Just in Dublin for one night for work. Arrived quite late to the guesthouse. The man at reception was friendly.
In the room: It was clean. The toilet door had been left open and there was a medical grade bleach smell coming from it which was on the verge of gag strength so I had to open the windows and close the door as the whole room was overbaring from it.
Other than the intense smell which I think resulted in me having a pretty bad nights sleep, it was ok.
- rod (8/5): Dublin get away! - The weather was cold and the remains of the February snow storm was still all around. But my trip was not for the weather but to visit Dublin for its famous people and history. My hotel/bed breakfast was accommodating the location was out of the way but did not want to stay in the Temple bar area it would have been too noisy. The room that I stayed in was facing an alley where it was a receiving area for the building next door, so in the morning it was very noisy. The breakfast was very good the staff very friendly.
- Victoria (10/5): - Such an amazing staff. So friendly and helpful. Clean adorable hotel and very centrally located. Will definitely be back! 5/5 stars
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff, location is walking distance to local pubs and shops.
- Jana (8/5): Great location for walking tour of Dublin - Great location but loud, noisy crowds on Saturday night will keep you up till 3am. Loved the breakfast and the helpful staff.
- Thomas (10/5): Not cheap but very convenient. - Excellent location for exploring Dublin on foot, with convenient shopping and friendly, helpful staff. The airport bus has a stop on the same street only about a block away, providing a quick (under 30 minutes), cheap way (12 Euros round trip per person) to get from and back to the Dublin Airport and the main train station is equidistant.
Free WIFI but no refrigerator or microwave and the room was fairly small, but had a good shower and was quiet, even though there was a train overpass less than a block away.
I would stay there again without hesitation.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Tiny bathroom terrible shower with no water pressure. Room was pretty minimal given the price. Location was good.
- Robert (8/5): - Everything one could expect from a Guesthouse / Bed and Breakfast: nothing fancy, but clean, not too small room, and friendly staff. If you are on the top floor you have a fair climb, especially with luggage, but they did offer to carry luggage up.
- John (10/5): Excellent third experience at The Anchor - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Anchor - its location is perfect for walking and sightseeing in Dublin. The owners and staff are most welcoming and accommodating. Having left our phone cords in Berlin, we were very pleased to be loaned two cords for our stay. The three of us were delighted to have our washing done and folded at a very reasonable cost. There is a good pub at the end of the block which has great music later in the evening. On previous stays in Dublin we have stayed at much more expensive places and not particularly enjoyed the experience. We will continue to recommend The Anchor to friends and family looking for very clean, quiet, reasonably priced, well located, accommodation.
- Sheila (6/5): Far enough and close enough to Temple Bar area - Great location, close enough but far enough from the Temple Bar area. Lots of stairs in the hotel and no elevator. Keep that in mind if you have bad knees.
- Yuko (6/5): Across from Paddywagon tour pick up and drop off.. - It was a perfect location for taking Ireland Paddywagon tours. 5 minutes walk to Airlink airport bus station
The room needs upgrade. Very uncomfortable mattresses.
- Anne (8/5): - Quite good, the room was clean and comfortable in a central location.
Reasonably priced but were only there for less than 24 hours to comment too much
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I could not ask for a better location, the room was very good and clean, and the staff very helpful and welcoming
- Maryna (4/5): - Too small and noisy room. No breakfast, troubles with parking. Too overpriced. Good location is the only + of the place.
- Wendy (10/5): Lovely staff, great location, full of irish charm! - Staff was incrediblely friendly and made us feel right at home. The building and room was full of charm, very clean, and everything we needed. Close walk to absolutely everything. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, its the best value for money you can find.
- Violeta (8/5): Small Dublin Hotel - Great hotel in the heart of the city. Enjoyed my stay there.
- Chris (8/5): Location, staff, and value - This is one of the best values in Dublin. The rooms are dated, but clean. The WiFi works well and the staff was helpful and cheerful. I had a room toward the back (away from the street) and it was quiet.
- Matt (6/5): - Clean but you get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (6/5): ok for 1 night - not bad for 1 night, I have found some hair on the bed and on the towels which was disgusting
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good hotel in good area - Hotel was clean and well kept, bathroom a little cramped but functional. Good area one to city centre so be aware of some noise.
- Karen (8/5): Lovely hotel - The woman at the check in desk was one of the most friendly people I've ever come across, she got our trip off to a great start. The room was extremely comfortable, plenty of space but wasn't overly big, with a kettle and tea/coffee provided. The only issue was that, because we were in a room at the back, there was quite a bit of noise due to the train track. As I'm a heavy sleeper this did not bother me, but if you're a light sleeper you may want to request a room at the front of the hotel
- Victor (8/5): Kindly B&B - It was only 1 night but everithing is so close. If you compare service vs cost you gain a lot off.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - enjoyed area, hotel clean, staff very friendly, but there was no hot water so could'nt shower that night, there was hot water in the morning but the water pressure was very poor.
- Verified traveler (6/5): More a student hostel - Hotel and amenities were both older than expected; should have emphasized this was more a B&B student hostel than a hotel. Neighborhood slightly unsavory despite the convenience.
- Mario (10/5): Lovely stay! - Great stay, 5/5, will come back again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): What we needed it for - We stopped over for a nights stay to see friends. The location was great but it was a bit dated being an old building. Staff were helpful and we had a great breakfast.
- Fred (4/5): Avoid this one. - The staff was very welcoming, very helpful, very accommodating and friendly, especially Mr Raymond , the night porter.
But that's all the positive points i can think of.
Rooms ( i had 2 different ones) on the street side are very noisy, the main road has lot of traffic , you need earplugs to sleep.
Shower: there is no hot water. You have to dress up again, go down to tell them, and they switch on the boiler and you ll have hot water in JUST 45 minutes. And if you have one in the morning you cant have it in the evening because you have run out of hot water and the boiler DID NOT warmed it up during the day.
Then i changed room, one floor up: extremely cold, window could not close properly, and the heather was off. When i put it on, it didnt make any difference. It was just lukewarm.
Shower in the new room: YES! hot water! but only for 60 seconds, then it was down to cold again, but i couldnt go down as i was already enterely soaped and shampoed. It's 4 degrees in the evening, come on!
Last thing: the milk for the complimentary tea and coffee was already expired 6 days ago.
- pauli (8/5): Comfortable hotel near the city centre - Like a boutique hotel, nothing fancy but comfortable and cozy, good bed, nice breakfast and the best it's people! Close to the Liffey river and the centre...good to rest after a long journey!
- Emirica (8/5): Wonderful location in the heart of Dublin. - Great staff, really helpful and kind. Can't beat the location and right next to bus station which has a direct bus to airport. Each room has a tray with tea and coffee.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Just a quick night - We had a triple room and it was fairly spacious. The beds were comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location and accessibility, way over priced. - The property had easy 24 access and a 5 minute walk from the train station. The room was very large and easily accommodated three however very dated. The
- Julie (6/5): Good location, helpful staff - Arrived early in the A.M. and the hotel allowed us to store our luggage while we wandered a bit. They also made sure to have our triple ready as soon as possible so we could check in. The location is super convenient to everything but the neighborhood is a bit dodgy at night and early morning. Room was small, bathroom smaller but clean enough.
- Michael (8/5): Satisfied customer - Great location is a big plus with this hotel, and the friendly staff were very helpful.
- Stephen (10/5): Great for exploring Dublin - A day's break in Dublin before meeting relatives. I threw my bag behind the desk and walked to Grafton St. The staff were friendly and provided me enough directions to explore. The room was big enough, clean and had everything I needed. Its just around the corner from the Abbey Theatre and the bus stations. Ideal for exploring Dublin and I will use it as my base next time.
- Catherine O (8/5): Dublin City Center - Nice B & B within walking distance from the city center. The third floor room was difficult for my sister with a bad knee.
- Konrad (8/5): Very good location - I liked this place and it is in a very good location. Could not ask for a better value. The staff is very nice. We could walk to everything. Our room was nice. They do need a shelf in the bathroom, not sure what they do not have one?
- Tamra (6/5): Friendly Staff and nice location - The rooms are comfortable - it goes with the price you pay. There were no hair dryers, the room we had was a bit outdated, the TV is rather small and you must order breakfast the night before. If you have heavy luggage, be aware the elevator is up some stairs and through a couple doors. The staff was very nice, the information in the day room was helpful, it was easy for us to walk to the Spire, the tour buses and local tourist places. I would stay here again if I had the same travel budget, if I had more to spend, I would upgrade to a nicer hotel. I would recommend it with the staff being so friendly and the clean beds.
- Verified traveler (2/5): very noisy , arrogant staff - I stayed for one night at this hotel. room was clean and looked ok. My room was towards the back of the hotel and I had to endure loud noise from some motors for the whole night.I was sitting an exam next morning and hence it was very important for me to get good night's sleep.I went to reception and explained the situation. The receptionist said " I dont have the switches to those motors"! he asked me to close the window and sleep!!! when I said that window was broken he came to investigate and tried to put few tea bags between the window and the frame in order to fix it. When it didnt work, he said he cannot do anything about it. very rude and arrogant receptionist at night.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overpriced for what you get. - We had a good experience in that the staff was helpful and eager to please. The room was dark and too small for the three beds. It needed one less bed and an extra chair with small table. It needs brighter lighting.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Get what you pay for - I was surprised by the reviews of this hotel. Good location and passable cleanliness but nothing more. Barebones.
