Their personalized service truly stood out—attentive, thoughtful, and delivered with genuine care. The team acted promptly and ensured a smooth resolution, which made a significant difference to my stay. Overall, the experience was top-notch, reflecting the high standards of the brand. That said, there is an opportunity for improvement within Housekeeping. The cleanliness standards and consistency of service should be enhanced. Turn-down service varied from day to day, and amenities were not always fully replenished, which fell short of expectations for a hotel of this caliber. I look forward to returning and hope to see these areas refined, as the service excellence from the front-of-house team is truly commendable.

- Voyager04601558885 (10/5): Excellent Stay with Memorable Service at the Grand Kempinski Shanghai - We stayed for 5 nights (18–23 July 2025) in the Club Bund View King Room with Executive Lounge access, and it was truly a wonderful experience. The room offered stunning views of the Bund, and the overall ambiance of the hotel was elegant and relaxing. A special mention goes to Ms. Yudith, the Club Lounge Manager, and her team, who provided consistently attentive and professional service throughout our stay. They made us feel genuinely welcomed and ensured that every visit to the lounge was a pleasant one. Their warm hospitality truly elevated our experience. One small area for improvement would be the check-in process for Executive Room guests. Upon arrival, we informed the lobby ambassador that we had booked an Executive Room, and in our experience with other hotels, such guests usually have a dedicated check-in/check-out service at the Executive Lounge. However, in this case, we were led to the front desk instead, which was a bit unexpected. While the check-in was smooth, we feel that offering Executive Lounge check-in would enhance the first impression and reflect the premium image of the hotel. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend the Grand Kempinski Shanghai for its comfort, location, and outstanding service from the Executive Lounge team. We look forward to returning in the future.
- mthomasbaumann (6/5): Kempinski is great, but in China not really - This is a mixed review - aimed for Westerners about Kempinski hotels in China. Normally we give 5 stars because Kempinski is a 5 star hotel, but in China it's different ... no hotel in China is really a "non smoking hotel" and it's usual behaviour for men to be half naked with their hotel room door open all the time like it's a brothel. We have a Titanium membership (highest level) but that doesn't help to insulate from inconsiderate guests that the hotel seems unwilling or unable to civilize. It's too bad, otherwise we think Kempinski is great.
- L5366JNfrancoism (2/5): Don't visit if you value your life - Never again!! I tried shaving as soon as I arrived cause it was a 10 hour drive starting at 5am. When I touched the mirror, I got shocked that my entire left half was numb, and with the shock, the electricity went out. I live in hotels very often, and I've never been electrocuted before, even in cheap hotels. This is just something that should be impossible. And I was offered a free breakfast as compensation. So my life is worth a bowl of cereal. NEVER AGAIN at the 'un'-grand Kempinski.

- SALINTIP_041992 (10/5): 5 nights in a river view room - I stayed here for 5 nights in a river view room and was very impressed. The room was clean, odor-free, and well-maintained. The front desk staff were professional, polite, and communicated clearly in English. The housekeeping staff were also friendly and attentive. The breakfast offered a wide variety of choices to suit all preferences. Moreover, the hotel’s location is excellent — right next to the Oriental Pearl Tower and with easy access to many tourist attractions in Shanghai via the subway.

- Vienna1892 (6/5): Friendly staff good location horrible hygiene at the pool and overall worn down - Good location. Very friendly staff. Comfy bed and stunning views. Not so great: the appliances in the room have aged and the pool/wellness area is really old and not clean. Guests are walking in with street shoes next to the pool. The pool is cold. It’s simply worn down up their on the 30th floor. Great view though Please note: if you want to go swimming you need to wear a swimming cap. Given the hygiene conditions in that area it’s the last think I would care about. Internet is not international.
- Rorypatrick (8/5): A bad start but great hotel - We arrived mid morning & luckily our room was ready but unfortunately the air conditioning in the room was not working so when we returned late that evening we had to switch rooms which was annoying as we had unpacked everything. Having said that the hotel gave us a larger room which was appreciated. The rooms are a bit dated but the lobby is beautiful & the breakfast was simply fabulous. Approx. 10 minute walk to the metro & the staff particularly the Concierge were very helpful

We upgraded on arrival to an executive club room and totally worth it with an amazing river view and access to the lounge. Room was amazing and staff were great. Only thing I didn't like was to use the pool you had to pay £5.00 for a swimming cap but there were men with beards swimming????? Overall great stay and we would go back.

We were warmly welcomed into the hotel by Elaine and another lady colleague of hers. They ensured our check in was smooth. We were also warmly hosted by Judith at the executive lounge. She was very friendly and accomodoting. We were definitely very well fed at the executive lounge. The room is beautiful with great view. The food selection is excellent. The hotel location is very convenient. We definitely enjoy our stay. Highly recommended.
- W945LZsteveng (10/5): Manager George: A True Asset to the Grand Kempinski - Nearly a year late (we stayed last April), but I had to commend Manager George. A third-party booking cancellation threatened to ruin our last stop in China. However, the Kempinski staff, especially George, were incredible. We were immediately offered drinks in the lobby while the issue was resolved. George not only honored our original rate, despite the last-minute problem, but also included complimentary breakfast (which was impressively varied and fresh). He even treated us to a meal at one of the hotel's excellent restaurants. George's professionalism and kindness turned a stressful situation into a highlight. Highly recommend the Grand Kempinski for its outstanding service – a truly memorable experience. Thanks again to George and the staff!

The whole lounge is also beautiful and looks like a great place to have a drink or tea in the evening. It is on the 28th floor and has views of the waterfront and downtown!

Just across the river from the bund, most of tourist attractions are within assessable by the metro just a 10 minute walk away. To further enhance your experience at an affordable price, you can find and book yourself the top floor executive suites at a discount!

Sadly the rooms are quite small with brownish furniture and dated bathrooms and my room happened to face an office building and its occupants. The lobby and grounds floor restaurant were super busy. Breakfast buffet was perfectly good but nothing to impress.

- Imre (10/5): - The hotel was extremely flexible allowing early check-in and late check-out for a little extra costs. Perhaps, the best location in Shanghai with nice views on the city, river, etc. with cosy, superb rooms and service. Only the breakfast was a bit too crowded for a 5 star hotel.
- YuliaShakhavn (4/5): Not a good choice, no attractive Bund view - We’ve chosen Kempinski to celebrate my Birthday and NY Eve. But we’ve faced with some disappointment already. Grand Bund View King Room was our choice for a family of three (two grownups and 12 years old child). The booking was done on an official website. As a result, we had to pay extra for child’s breakfast and extra bed which was not brought into our room actually. They said that to unfold a sofa, that was already in our room, would be the same price as to bring an extra bed, extra 315 CNY per night just for linen. Also you have to leave 1000 CNY deposit per night. But we could not use it for the hotel’s bar receipt for unknown reason. In total for that price we could book much more comfortable and modern hotel. BTW the bund view is not actually Bund#1 view, it’s just the river view. The room is rather outdated. The restaurant at breakfast is overcrowded. I’d never choose this hotel for my staying in Shanghai.
- Tellivais (2/5): The worst hotel ever! - By a wide margin, the worst hotel out of the more than fifty I've visited. We specially booked Bund view, in fact we got a view of the other side of the river. For the fact that the sofa was laid out for us once and the linen was put on it, they charged us around 500 usd because we used it for 9 nights. It's absolute hell at breakfast, with crowds of people sweeping away all the food in sight. The breakfast itself is also so-so. The bar on the 30th floor (habana bar) has prepared the most disgusting cocktails in my life, the kind that even someone who made them for the first time should be ashamed of. It's even amazing how one hotel was able to beat bingo in so many negative nominations. Absolutely the worst hotel experience.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Good Location but Tired w/Poor Breakfast Quality - Located near the financial district of Shanghai, this hotel is approx. 10 min walk from the nearest metro and steps away from Huangpu River park where you can take a leisurely stroll. Both gym and pool area show major signs of wear n tear. Quality of breakfast is poor if not one of the worst both for its western and Chinese selections. The whole decor smells 1980s vibe which needs some major update.
- Tram (10/5): - Stayed in many hotels during my 2 weeks around China and this was the only one with obvious "classical luxury" vibe from overall design to the small amenities. King sized bed and duvet were super comfortable. Amazing Bund view but be noted it's towards the North Bund, not the old Bund. Staff were efficient, I had a small issue with the bath tub and a technician arrived at my room door for fixing within a couple minutes. Staff at the lounge were kind and attentive. Good quality food and beverage. Location is great, just couples steps from the TV tower and near metro station. Don't skip visiting the pool area, mean view over Pudong! Massage at the onsite spa was a great closing for my China trip, too. On the other hand, I was under impression the Club room were all renovated recently. However, my room had new carpet, but the chipped wood in the bathroom were still there, just a coat of painting over. This was the only hotel without new style toilet in my whole trip (before that I thought high-end hotels in China were fighting for the top spot in luxe by fancy toilets, apparently not). I could hear music and noises from the 30th floor bar in my room, it didn't bother me much but if you're a light sleeper, avoid rooms directly under the bar area in flood 29.

- Calvin (10/5): - I booked Kempinski’s diplomatic suite for 1 night for myself and my friend who are on vacation in Shanghai from the U.S.. We were greeted by Eva at the front desk who was very polite and professional. When I raised concern about a 350 RMB charge for extra bed, she was kind enough to waive it without much discussion, which I appreciate! Doesn’t make a lot of sense for the hotel to charge customer extra when customer is already paying for a very expensive room, hope management can look into this.

Stayed 2 night, first night my room air con not working, sweating whole night while sleeping. Report the next day and the technician confirmed air con malfunction and change my room, again not apologetic at all for causing inconveniences to me.

The only minor thing is that although the bathroom is decently-sized, I couldn't find a good spot for my toiletries. A design flaw I guess. Overall I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again next time I come to Shanghai.

- Olav (6/5): - I had specially booked a room on the club level because I wanted to use the beautiful club lounge. Unfortunately, this was not available as it was exclusive to the government. There was no information about this in advance, so I booked and paid for something I couldn't use. The sauna area is getting on in years and not in the condition you would expect in a hotel of this class. The relax loungers in the sauna area were the most uncomfortable loungers I have ever lain on. Club lounge and spa were the two main reasons for booking at the hotel, unfortunately unsatisfactory. The massage in the spa area was excellent.

- Juan Angel (10/5): I just left, but would be back soon! - Took few days off to relax and connect with friends and chose the Grand Kempinski as a recommendation from a good friend. I was not disappointed 😉 The service is very good and the staff is friendly at all their facilities... The breakfast buffet has a great variety from fresh fruits, to pastry, classic and tasty omelette also vegetables, congee and noodles for to those catering to the Asian taste... The pool, spa and gym area enjoy beautiful views of the Pearl tower, the Huangpu river and other sights of Pudong! The Havana bar on the 30th floor is amazing for early evening drinks or night cap, great music, expansive views and friendly staff. If you care about lounges, book a room with access to the executive lounge to enjoy the happy hour there in an exclusive and calm environment... I just left, but would be back soon!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved the breakfast buffet because of the wide variety and grrt quality of the food. I also enjoyed the location. We wanted to stay near the Oriental Pearl Tower and this was a perfect 5 minute walk away with great access to shops and fun things along the way!

- JOSIP (8/5): Internet connection was a disappointment. - Internet connection was a disappointment. Breakfast and daily selection of food/drink on the 28th floor is also very modest.
