Guest Reviews
- niccole (8/5): - Been coming to this hotel for over 7 years, great location and clean facility. My room had mold in bathrooms that lots mosquitoes in room. But everything else was good and clean.
I’d return again next year and ask for different room if it’s not adequate enough.
- Kevin (2/5): - This place is horrible I wouldn’t ever stay here again. Also no WiFi only in the lobby, this place is ridiculous
- Adrian (4/5): - Ac would make an unbearable noise at night absolutely impossible to sleep with either the ac is off or you sleep with the loudest knocking noise ever every thing else was good very aesthetically pleasing
- Rosa (10/5): - The property is comfortable clean and safe , The internet connection is really really bad, only works in the lobby,
- Cesar (10/5): - Javier and all staff are great
- Lis (4/5): - Al llegar a la habitación el aire estaba apagado, el piso apestaba como cuando usan agua sucia y el mapo abombado. Las camas son tamaño full. No tienen wifi. Desde que llegué y cada vez que salía el de seguridad no respetaba que estaba con mi esposo y se volteaba por completo a mirarme, se sentía demasiado hostigador.
- Selina (10/5): - Wow had amazing stay at hotel from all aspects this hotel gave us great satisfaction no complaints at all from all aspects so clean staff where amazing especially leonardo at reception he helped us with everything very hard working polite and push every boat out to make us feel comfortable we enjoy the hotel and México we extended our trip for extra two weeks we will return soon thank you x
- john (8/5): - great location
- Jorge (10/5): Exceeded expectations - Traveling in a budget requires to take a little risk. However this hotel was very affordable, quiet and clean. The staff working at the front desk were very friendly. The pool was refreshing and clean. Total silence at night, you don't even hear the road noise. The location is good if you don't need to be in the middle of everything. A short walk to a public beach, but crossing the main road towards the beach areas is very dangerous because cars don't stop to let you cross the road. Other than that I would recommend staying here if in a tight budget.
- Njmurse (8/5): Nice place - The rooms are arranged by letter and number. Each letter is a separate unit. Number 1 has a nice little jungle like patio. The pool is heavily shaded by trees with a view of the marina. Beds are comfortable, sheets a bit abrasive. Overall very clean, quiet and inexpensive. The public beach is an easy walk. Ferry to isla mujeres is across the street. The little deli adjacent is frequented by locals more than tourists and has the best coffee. Burrito and coffee 260 pesos. The hotel has Breakfast included, noting to write home about but is very good. Waitress speaks no English. The street is actually gated ( at times) so very safe. Oh, and there is resident cat who greeted me at the patio door, very sweet thing.
- niccole (8/5): - When come Cancun, I stay here. Inexpensive Clean and Decent Area. I had challenge with room, A/C wasn’t strong and door didn’t lock properly. But spoke with receptionist and took care of it quickly. They gave me a better room with outdoor balcony and WiFi access room.
It’s quiet clean room with good restaurant and across from yaught dock to canal with little tropical fish come by. Very safe clean area and walking distance to street to get bus. It’s perfect cause don’t spend a lot time in room. Just need clean quiet and safe with good A/C.
- Carlos (2/5): - Terrible place to stay not recommended
- Manuel I (2/5): - That hotel is garbage. You can go to a better place than that one. It is unhygienic and very dirty, horrible.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Was nice clean and loved the cat who let us pet him
- Darius (4/5): - Had trouble breathing in roo. H3 THAT DID NOT HAVE VENTILATION. My son had daily nosebleeds. All construction is required to have ventilation
- Raul (4/5): - Looks very old, needs to be remodeling. The dinning service is very limited. The waitresses were very rude. I do speak spanish so no language barrier and she was extremely rude. The front desk is not accommodating. Unhappy with our stay.
- Glenn (2/5): - Sorry, but first time I'm not satisfied with this place. Check in was at 3pm, they had about a party of 4 waiting for there rooms. We got there at 2:55pm and they told to wait because the rooms were not ready. Finally at 3:30pm we got keys. Got to our room and it was full of moscitos. Had to go to a drug store and buy bug repellent. Long night. No Wi-Fi in the room.
- Alvin (10/5): - Great Place Great Location
- REN (2/5): - Dirty
- Taghi (2/5): - There was nothing unique about this hotel. The whole thing is falls advertising. There is no WIFI in the rooms. There is TV in the room with no connection. Very hard to find. Even GPS was sending us up and down to get there.
Over all we did not have a good time at this hotel
- Jamielea (6/5): - We stayed here for one night in transit to the airport, it was a bit damp and musty but did the job for what we needed, the area around was interesting but felt safe to walk somehwere for food. The front desk guy was really nice and helpful, there was a really good Mexican restaurant nearby ! Do not go to the pirate ship restaurant!
- Adriana (10/5): - For the price you get a lot of value. I staid on a budget but got a clean comfortable bed, clean floors and acceptable towels. The shower has good pressure so I took a good shower. The only thing I missed was no mini fridge but they tell you at front. I was able to walk to "embarcadero" where a lot of tours are available including the Xcaret Isla mujeres Ferry.
- Yuka (2/5): - The worst hotel ever. There’s no wifi, unfriendly staffs, cockroaches everywhere. And I got ticks bite when I was sleeping from the bed sheets. Shower room is also dirty and we were supposed to call the front desk about that but the phone is unplugged. I wanted to get refund. It’s terrible.
- DWAYNE (4/5): - The female counter staff was rude and acted put to check me in. Room was dirt with mold on the walls and broken mirror in the bathroom. Shower need scrubbed due to mildew and shower head was green. Beds were almost as hard as the tile floor. Breakfast was $10 and I was served half a quesadilla with a spoonful of dice tomatoes, a bowl of soggy corn flakes with warm milk (like it had been sitting for a while), and 3/4 glass of juice. When I asked I was told that was all the breakfast included. The two positives were that it backed to the marina so you could see some nice boats and the gentleman at check-out was very pleasant and helpful. Do not recommend this property.
- Ara (2/5): - I paid 75 USD for a couple of hours, and didnt deserve even a breakfast! The sruff doesnt understand English well. Many shortcomings
- Raul (6/5): Convenient place for the price with good location - The hotel have a very good location, and is quiet comfortable, only the pool need to be better clean in case that the customers want to use it!
- Gerald (8/5): - The rooms were clean, everything worked well. Staff all pleasant
- Jean (6/5): - The 1st room we had not so clean, and the ceiling of shower caved in the 2nd night we were there, they did move us to a nicer room for duration of stay. Paid for a breakfast daily, ate 3, all mexican food, no choices. The staff was friendly enough but no one spoke English, very hard to communicate!
- Paul (10/5): - This hotel is a great little gem in the Hotel Zone of Cancun. It is extremely reasonable with modest clean rooms and nice attached restaurant that overlooks the lagoon. If you want a clean safe place where you actually feel like you are in Mexico this is the place. Also nice cafe next door (Deli Barlovento).
- 357ninnan (4/5): Disappointment - We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 kinds (2,10,13) and got 2 rooms with two large beds in each. Eventhough the rooms are large there are lack of faciilities which are rather basic in my point of view.
Only one small towel per person eventhough there’s a pool area. No towel for drying hands. No wastebin. No small fridge. No internet on the rooms (maybe I overread that in the booking though) only in the lobby.
The rooms (on the Ground floor) smells like basement, moldy.
The pool area which looks so nice on fotos is a dirty space with old beds, and the pool/water is clearly not being cleaned/rinsed.
So the location is great but considering the Price there’s no value for the money.
A dissapointment :-(
- Nicholas (8/5): - Nice affordable option in the hotel zone ive been staying at for years. For the price, its great. But very budget friendy and not super nice. But has pool, restaurant, bar, tours and marina on site. Close to ferry to isla mujeres and bus stop to other hotel zone areas of Cancun! Very quiet and relaxing hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Rooms were ok, bed was comfortable. Outside of the room the grounds had a bad septic smell - constantly. Busted up septic lids, etc. Pool had green algae on the sides.
Restaurant was not too bad - staff wete ok
- paul (6/5): - They don't speak English as listed, so we had to worry about our charges until Expedia explained to me that they may have returned my deposit, so everything needs to be paid at the hotel. The room and complex is pretty much as listed on Expedia, and pretty nice for the price.
We loved the location like everyone else, with excellent local restaurant 7 minute walk and next to a 24 hour Oxxo. Those local busses also pick up next to restaurant, busses are full with local workers and arrive every 2 minutes or less. Be prepared to stand up for the ten minute ride to the beach or bars and hold on.The beach at Mandalay Bay is exquisite, bring a cooler of beer and sunscreen, bus is .60 cents, get off at the stop near Cocobongo.
Taxi from airport is a crazy mandatory $60 one way, so instead we used the local bus to central Cancun for $6 each, then paid $6 for an Uber to Sotavento. It didnt take too long ultimately and was comfortable, and you buy the bus tickets right before you exit the airport on the right, busses every hour to town. We also enjoyed eating delicious tacos near the bus station, and shopping for items like sandals, shirts, hats, and beer, which totaled $40, thus gratis compared to a direct taxi. Plus, we found all the local areas to be safe and very real, no gimmicks, however we discovered all the touristic areas to be misleading and OVER-PRICED, always remember it's Mexico not Florida, tho much better in our opinion if you play the game smart.
- Shore (2/5): - Smelly room, pillow stinks, the staff is not so friendly.
- Carlos (4/5): - The employee on the front
desk reception, he doesn't know nothing to help us..like the wifi
- Arlen (6/5): - The swimming pool was a little dirty, I guess it should be very clean, that's important in a hotel
- Jose (10/5): - Really clean
- Diana (10/5): - We stayed one night and it was clean, good air conditioning, good location, good food at restaurant
- Samuel (2/5): - Los huespedes fuman en los pasillos. Ponen el radio a todo volumen. Cuando sierran las puertasde manera agresiva se escucha en todo el edificio. No regresare nunca a ese hotel
- Isabel (8/5): - Nice stay
- Margaret (6/5): - You are in a dark jungle! Even the unheated pool. Rooms are dark and musty. Everything is always damp!
I booked 16 nights and was actually relieved to be at a small quiet hotel since it was at the height of Omicron. I ended up staying 3 nights on Isla Mujeres to get some sun and experience that magical island 🏝 Since this hotel wasn’t very expensive I didn’t feel too bad paying for 2 hotel rooms a night.
The food was pretty good. $5 for a descent continental breakfast! Definitely don’t recommend paying the $17/day for Breakfast Included!!
All in all it was a great trip but had to spend most of my time away from the depressing hotel.
- Sandra (10/5): - I had to stay 5 extra nights and they were able to accommodate me even though it was last minutes and it was New Years Eve. The staff was always polite and professional
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Service, accommodations and amenities were all excellent. Staff were all knowledgeable and very helpful. Room cleanliness was always outstanding.
- Dora (10/5): - Very nice vacations
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very genuine looking building with jungle like surroundings. Amenities could improve, no fridge and could use a bigger tv with more channels.
- vanessatI121GC (10/5): Great experience! - I had a great time at Sotavento. The staff was super nice and the rooms were very beautiful. There was music at the pool which was quite lovely!! It was a very a central location. In general it just had a good vibe!!
- Explore87973 (8/5): Surrounded by a lot of trees and plants - Beautiful hotel surrounded by a lot of Palm trees and plants. Clean pool and area and rooms. The food at the restaurant is very nice - although sometimes it was not clear if we can open a tap to the room, pay immediately by card or cash. We got a lot of different informations what was a little confusing. It was easy and uncomplicated to book some dive trips and tours.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bathroom wasn’t fully equipped with shower amenities
- Verified traveler (2/5): - El hotel es pésimo, comenzando que las sábanas estaban manchadas, no tenían Shampoo,Jabón y mucho menos crema bueno ni experiencia que nunca olvidaré 😡
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic value. Somewhat removed from most activities in Cancun, but still easy to get around. From Sotavento, it's still possible to walk to a couple of beaches. I especially loved the hotel grounds with tropical plants and all the birds it attracted.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Hotel had advertised a business center. No business center no wifi in rooms. Bedding was stained with big brown marks. Completely disgusting.
- Jeff (10/5): - Sotavento is a great place. Perfect location on the bus line in the hotel zone. Great amenities including giant pool, breafast, and good ac. Very clean and nice breakfast. Staff is very helpful anf good value overall.
- Karolina (10/5): Outstanding - perfect place with perfect location and services. Nothing to complain about at all.
- 792dianad (2/5): Worst service I have ever gotten in the Caribbean. - The restaurant opens at 8. No coffee pots in room so I was eager to have coffee. The waiter was late. He walked in 20 minutes late and the restaurant was full. It took exactly one hour to get coffee and then he never took my order, I had to wave him down after sitting with my empty coffee cup for 30 minutes. Unacceptable! My food finally came and half the plate was freezing cold, cold beans. Horrible!!!!!
- Robyn (8/5): - Great property, only thing is that there is no WiFi in rooms, tv only gets 3 channels, and they forgot to give us towels. Other than that beds were super comfy, rooms clean, location was great.
- thegabtrotter (4/5): No COVID Safety Measures - We chose this hotel for its proximity to the ferry to Isla Mujeres. However, we were disappointed that none of the kitchen staff were wearing masks when we went for meals. Also, a lot of the other staff were not wearing masks, except for the front desk. Cancun has put in places many rules for hotels and restaurants to follow to keep tourism safe during this time; however, this hotel was not following the rules. Their cavalier attitude toward the virus is a risk for anyone staying at their hotel. Also as mentioned, no Wifi in the rooms, but also the mobile service doesn't work either. We have Telcel Sim card, and we were not able to even use our cell phones. Since there weren't many people there, parking was easy and convenient.
- David B. (10/5): y stays at Hotel Sotaventoin Cancun - I stayed at Hotel Sotavento twice, for several nights each time. It is difficult to find, but for sure, it’s a hidden gem. It’s small, cozy, and tucked away on a side street of condos along a marina by Cancun’s lagoon. My room was very clean and comfortable. Water was semi-hot, but all else was great. The restaurant is excellent, with delicious food, including many Yucatecan dishes, and very reasonably priced. It has free nearby parking, and taxis are easy to get. Only one lady at the front desk was a bit sullen, and while the staff isn’t big on hotel services, if you directly ask for assistance, they will help you. Overall, the staff is cheerful. The surrounding tropical garden is truly lovely. It feels far from the crazy tourist feel in the rest of Cancun! It’s also close to the Michoacán taco restaurant, which serves delicious food in a friendly manner, and is not to be missed!
- Michelle (4/5): - O restaurante fecha às 4 da tarde. Após esse horário, se o hóspede deseja tomar água por exemplo, precisa sair para comprar na rua, pois o hotel não fornece, nem para vender!
- Benhortonnnnnnn (10/5): Excellent - Great food, great service, great environment around the pool all staff friendly and very helpful!
Would highly recommend if in or around magaluf
The pool is very clean and there is a TV in perfect view for watching events and sport on!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rooms are nice. Nice pool. In front of the Lagoon. Good location in Zone hotel. Only bad thing no wifi in rooms.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean beautiful rooms friendly staff, breakfast was great nice views
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Sotavento is near to the hotel area and shopping mall and is not expense
- Idontknow (2/5): - There hotel I don’t like there so bored and no WiFi in room
- Ilona (8/5): - All the staff are very nice. Hotel is outdated but works well for that price. Located between downtown and hotel zone, very close to a beautiful beach and lagoon. Restaurant is good as well and very affordable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I was there . My room it doesn't have a towels.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I thought the tour staff were very helpful and waiters had good suggestions.
The swimming pool could have been bigger
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The restaurant was very nicr, served excellent food, vrry convenient
- Carmela (10/5): - Everything was fine only breakfast need to improve more.
- Paul (8/5): Solid budget-friendly choice - Great clean, friendly hotel. Not a lot of frills, but still a solid choice for budget-minded travelers. And the restaurant is wonderful!
- AP (6/5): - Very convenient if you are a scuba diver. Their breakfast was not very impressive. There aren't many choices of restaurants around. It is far from the center of the hotel zone but reasonably priced.
- Nada (4/5): - WiFi only in the lobby
Room smelly because of humidity
Toilet not flashed
A lot of mosquito , couldn’t sleep
Staff friendly but no phone in the room to call the reception
All the experience was vey bad
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I was rib. I left some of my money in my backpack and some of it dessaper. I talk to the front desk and they told me that they were not responsable for it. We had to go to the police and waisted our time because we did not get our money back
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked everything , the location, the food, the restaurants, and the service very kindly
- Gladys (4/5): - Check-in at 3 pm checked out at 5 pm. The rooms smelled terrible. The windows were so dirty that one could write a note on them.
- Arturito (8/5): - The ladies kept my room clean and were very polite, I didn’t like the fact that the guys didn’t want to sell me coffee in the morning they wanted me to consume their food first so I had to buy my coffee In the little grocery store next door
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Design of the hotel and plants lovely. Nice rooms; however, bedding not changed every day, some towels had holes in them and we had to wear footwear as floor not regularly cleaned.
Restaurant staff offer a very good service and food quite good. Staff on the whole friendly and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good for the price. But really no wifi in rooms? Cant cost much to add wifi? Place is clean and affordable. Lobby staff is good. Restraunt staff not very happy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I really loved this hotel. Late night , a few hours after I checked in . I had a medical emergency. I asked the lovey young lady at reception if she could arrange for a taxi to take me to a medical centre. The lady was calm and since some fingers on one hand had turnedblack and was causing excruciating pain she said she'd call the on all Dr. The Dr arrived quickly and she was able to arrange ambulance with the direction of the Dr. I could tell she was working hard to continue her reception duties and be helpfull to the situation. I was so pleased to see her again a few days later to thank her.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I didn't like the fact that the rooms were very small
- Chele (4/5): - NO amenities..not even drinking water .
The safe didn't have a lock.
Many mosquitoes.
No beach..
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The rooms re to small and beds make to much noises and outside the rooms
- Mario (10/5): - 10 minutes walking distance to the public beach
Friendly staff and prices are fair
No wifi in the rooms
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Even cheap motels provide free coffee and wifi. Neither was provided and although room were clean and hotel was clean there were lot of mosquitoes in waiting area. Probably because there was lot of greenery
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I like the price. Hotel simple, basic, but clean and safe.
Carolina and Juliana at front desk were very kind and helpful.
I did not like that the property is not on the beach.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Need to improve cleanliness, the location is pretty decent
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I didn’t like the restaurant food is no good....we’re had to go to the next restaurant to eat
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Highly recommend to skip the additional fee for breakfast. Staff was not friendly or helpful. Place location is not great. WiFi is available in the lobby and restaurant only.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location on the lagoon. Excellent landscaping. Good , inexpensive restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was very clean and the staff was great.
- Jruvalcaba (8/5): - Hotel is clean , spacious and good location, wifi internet is limited to the lobby area which it was a problem for me since the phone signals are very weak inside the rooms ( telcel, movistar ) and i have to go outside of my room every time i needed to acces my emails or internet.
- David (8/5): - Nice yet not great hotel on lagoon side of Cancun. Relaxing view of lagoon from restaurant and pool. They need to have wi-fi available in rooms as this is 2019., wi-fi only in lobby and restaurant/pool area. They used to have 2 for 1 happy hour drinks but alas no more.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff were kind and helpful, our room was cleaned daily and towels were provided. The last day we had no hot water although this is understandable as it was completely booked.
- sammy (6/5): - close walking distance to restaurants, beach, and bus stop. walls are soundproof but not doors
- Angelica (6/5): It was OK - It was just OK. Only issue I had was the toilet always had a hard time flushing. Also as soon as I arrived, there were weird yellow spots on the other bed and they definitely smeared, meaning they did not clean the bedroom entirely before I arrived.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The service , amability and take care of guest to make feel like home
- rajweet (2/5): - The first night we got there, we didn't have hot water so we couldn't shower. They tried to fix it but couldn't. The second night the hot water worked but they only gave us 3 towels even though we are 4 people. Also there were stains on the sheets. When we asked for another towel and sheets, the rude receptionist said we would have to wait until the morning when more towels arrived. The next day I complained to the manager and asked for some reumbursement. He finally agreed to. I asked him to put the amount in writing. He said he would. The next few days I kept asking if he put it in writing and he said he would the following day. The last full day I asked the rude receptionist if the manager put anything in w so she called him on the phone. He told her to write it. She did it wrong so I had to tell her I needed the total written on the letter. This hotel is run very poorly. I would not recommend it to anyone.
- Mark (8/5): Great little hotel - great place for the money
- R.Guzman (10/5): - Quiet place , highly recommended !!!!! Don’t expect a great breakfast for the price .
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No WIFI in rooms which really sucked!
But the staff were friendly and the beach was right across the street.
