- Crowe (9/5): Amazing price for this location with a clean room and simple accommodations. - Super clean, easy check in, excellent location and comfortable. No cups in the room and the elevator you share with the private club employees and it takes a long time to wait. But for the price its worth it and the staff are lovely
- Johann (10/5): It’s in a great place of the city you can easy visit anywhere you like and it’s close to the subway - Spaces are small but everything works great, the bathroom is really comfortable for taking showers and everything was really clean
- John (8/5): Decent hotel for a brief stay - Employees Too far down Jane St
- Joshua (8/5): Great location. Safe. - This hotel has two names. It was The Jane forever and now it is West Eurohostel or something like that. The rooms are so small you can touch both walls by standing in the center of the room. I love it. It is functional and safe but the prices keep climbing. It was $100 last year. It was $150 last week. It's $200 in May. The problem is you can't get anything cheaper that is not a scam or in a bad area.
- Joshua (8/5): Great Location. Safe. - Location was great. Price keeps increasing.
- Juan (1/5): - Malísimo
- Dave (8/5): great location and very affordable - comfortable bed in the room. friendly staff. great neighbourhood shared shower space wasn't that clean. Very slow elevator. No shop or pantry to buy water etc. very warm room.

- Idar (4/5): Fit my location need, but the room was very small. - Location was what I was looking for. Tiny room...and it was too warm in the room.
It was a cabin with bunk beds - I knew that in advance, yet didn't expect to turn sideways to take off my coat.

- ADDA (8/5): - I like it
- Ulrich (2/5): Zu teuer - Lage Wechsel zur Jugendherberge. Kein Aufenthaltsraum. Kein Kaffee

- Jill (3/5): This is no longer the Jane hotel. It is a hostel do not go. - The pictures are the same as the old Jane Hotel that had culture, atmosphere and cleanliness. When I arrived, there was instead a sign saying it was a hostel. The decor has completely changed to a star plane lobby.. other rooms on my floor smelled so bad as if someone had died in the room. It was creepy. There was no longer access to a bar on the top level. It was a completely different atmosphere where the majority of the hotel has turned into a private club that a hotel guest has no access to. Frankly, I would want to have no access to the atmosphere. That was there. The way that this is advertised as the Jane hotel still is fraudulent and it should be inspected and taken down as a listing. it was absolutely not as advertised and as a fraud. See my comment above. I still stayed there, but I slept with one eye open. I was not comfortable. The young girl at the front desk was friendly, but it was a ridiculous situation.. you should not be able to advertise as if they are the old set up that had style and was a great place to stay. I will never be back. What a shame that the old hotel was lost in its splendor.
- Benjamin (5/5): It was fine for one night in NYC on NYE and was relatively cheap considering that so I guess I expected it wouldn’t be t - The location is excellent and the staff is very nice. Parts of the hallways kind of smelled like urine. The beds were extremely uncomfortable.
- NATHALIA (10/5): - The place was very well located, with a great price, the rooms and bathroom were clean and the employees very helpful and friendly.
- Jane (9/5): same as above - Affordable, well-located, clean safe place to stay in Chelsea.
- Clarence (5/5): -
- Watkins (8/5): -
- Yamilee (3/5): Affordable but very uncomfortable experience. - Staff was friendly and they made the effort to keep the bathrooms as clean as possible. The Jane Hotel is no longer what it used to be. They have closed off areas such as the lobby, rooftop and everything that made the original hotel so captivating. It’s now a hostel, for a good price but be prepared to enter through a completely blocked off entrance. It was quite depressing and I will not return. Luckily it was cold so my windows stayed open, but it’s incredibly hot if not.
- Alysha (3/5): This place used to be great. Now it’s dingy. - The location is amazing. This hostel/hotel used to be charming. Now it’s just dingy and gross. It reeked of pot and the staff was coming and going all night long through the halls of our floor.
- David (10/5): -
- Michelle (5/5): - Helpful friendly staff, quiet location The corridors were far far too hot. Heaters poring out heat and windows open. In my room both the heater and aircon unit were on full which is bad for the environment.
- Tamara (8/5): - I love staying at the Jane hotel! The only problem I have was there was a smell on the fifth floor. It smelled like urine, but it didn't come from the bathroom.
- Samantha (4/5): - The location It's sad what has become of this hotel. It used to be so grand, but now the upstairs is a private club for the wealthy and normal hotel guests must be slink in through the basement and sad black elevator. The WiFi is also not great.
- BIPIN (1/5): Will never revisit or recommend to anyone. - Really nothing👎👎👎👎 Every thing was very substandard.
- Melissa (2/5): Total waste of money and too late to find a new hotel in peak season. - Location. That was the literal only thing. - no hot water in showers
-showers with broken flooring
-rooms are scorching hot. Ac won't stay on. Asked staff to look at it....still doesn't work.
- the ENTIRE theme is different despite pictures remaining up for booking. Basic-boring-and not worth the price.

- Kate (5/5): Not what it used to be :( - Location is still good The Jane used to be a reliable, affordable, charming place to stay in a great location, but sadly it's been taken over by a private club and it's not what it used to be. It's twice the price, without any of the amenities that they used to offer and there is no longer access to common space/the cafe. While I hate spending a lot on accommodations in New York this was probably the last time I'll stay there. What a shame!
- Shanna (7/5): Great location but at a price . - The location was great. Room was small but we expected that. Everything was kept very clean . Please make the 2 shared bathrooms and shower separate.. one for men and one for women . I did not pay for a hostel so I don’t want to be in the bathroom and a strange man comes out of the shower with only a towel. Heat in the room was unbearable and we slept with windows wide open and fan on in the middle of December.
- Sheila (5/5): Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The best thing about this place is the location. It used to be a vibrant, in - Location.
Clean. The hotel is a shadow of its former self. The lobby is very unappealing. And there are zero amenities. The atmosphere is a bit depressing.
- DaisyB1921 (4/5): - Having stayed at The Jane before, I actually like the rooms. The cabin is cozy and cute. It was unbearably hot and took a lot to cool down but I'd rather be hot than cold. The location and price are great. The location is one of my favorite parts of nyc and so close to the subway. I just wish The Jan was better Overall, The Jane has seen better days. The hallways smelled like cat pee most of the time. Staff moving about the hallways were super loud and disruptive. The bathroom was the worst shared bathroom I've experienced in any country or city. Water was never warm, the bathroom was never clean. It was just gross. I also wasn't a fan of using the service elevator. I work in the hotel industry and having to squeeze past service carts continously is just annoying. I most likely won't stay here again. Id rather pay more and not have to deal with all of these inconveniences.
- Leonardo (1/5): -
- michael (8/5): - the staff will very friendly N/A
- aminata (10/5): - 👍🏼 🇸🇳
- John (1/5): Absolutely terrible - avoid at all costs - The staff were always friendly and polite Almost everything was bad - everything good about the Jane (except the location) has been destroyed by greed. All the beautiful shared spaces are gone - sold off and made private for the rich apparently. The tiny rooms and dark, grubby sleeping areas were only forgiveable previously because you had access to such a nice lobby/bar/terrace as well. Now you're literally just stuck in a tiny, dimly lit room on a dark corridor with old, dirty shared bathrooms. You share the lift with staff (who are lovely and the only positive I can think of from my stay) from the private members club - it's easy to forget you're a paying guest at a hotel. It's awful - I can't believe they're getting away with it and booking.com should address the fact that this is a completely different hotel to older reviews. I don't think I've ever left a negative review like this before on this site - that's how terrible this place is now.
- FLORENCE (7/5): - Room cold at night
- Andrew (5/5): cramped and left with sewer feet and smelly socks and luggage - location great rooms miniscule and clostraphobic , expensive but great location staff cannot be faulted however toilet was blocked in shared bathroom i informed staff but six hours later when going to the bathroom i found myself wading through sewage overflow in myt socks very unpleasant shared batroom abd poor plumbing
- Arthur (5/5): A decent budget pick, but hard to get a good night's sleep in such an uncomfortable bed. - Great location, clean, friendly staff, and the cheapest price available in Manhattan. The bed was horrendously uncomfortable. I knew the space was going to be small, but the mattress was old, and you could feel every spring. Also, the wifi only worked sporadically and was very slow.
- Patrick (1/5): Sub par experience… can no longer recommend. - Not clean, needs a serious update, less amenities than last stay
- Brown (8/5): Great price and great location. I’d totally do it again. - Great price. Great location. That top bunk mattress had springs that I could feel. It worked, but it wasn’t very good.
- SCOTT (6/5): - Rather disappointing how chopped up the hotel is. The lobby is now in basement and they offer no amenities. The mattress was literally a box spring and I could feel the springs which was very uncomfortable.
- James (10/5): -
- Keemia (4/5): - Staff was helpful and available, was cheap and convenient, in a good location, not clean with the rooms
- George (6/5): - For what it is, the Jane is fine. As advertised, the rooms are extremely small and the bunk bed is awkward for two. The mattress, particularly on the upper level, is just on slats and not very comfortable. However, the price is right and if you just want a place to sleep, it is fine.;
- Ni (2/5): - The room is EXTREMELY small. Shared bathroom smells bad. The shower room doesn’t even have a stool to put clothes on.
That pretty much says everything.
- Michael (6/5): - This is very affordable for this part of Manhattan. Just read the description carefully.
- Javier (6/5): - Staff was friendly, but the hotel was not up to par. Shared bathrooms should be more cleaner.
- Richard (10/5): -
- Mark (10/5): - Great location. Very small rooms, but good for singles traveling solo.
- Anna (8/5): - It’s a lovely, clean hotel in the meat packing district. The rooms are extremely narrow, so fitting in large luggage can be a bit of an issue. The beds are comfortable and the communal bathrooms are immaculate.
- Diana (10/5): - the room was clean and perfect, front desk staff very nice and stored my backpack before check in.
- daiki (8/5): - shops nearby
- Jason (6/5): - The rooms, though small, are comfortable. The shared bathrooms are always clean. The one elevator shared with all staff, during an event, is tedious.
- SHANE (4/5): Great staff. - Location. Bathroom cleaned daily. Bed bugs.
- Shannon (10/5): - Great location, easy walk to shops and dining as well as the subway.
- Brenda Lorraine (4/5): - Good location The price I paid and bathroom was really dirty
- Roldan (8/5): - Hudson River Park is across the street and very lively!
- Mutsuko (4/5): - So small room and dark. Nosy and air conditioning is bad.
- Jared (7/5): - The staff was exceptionally friendly... Even the housekeeping personnel said 'Good Morning' in the halls. The rooms are clean and efficient. I've stayed here several times and it never disappoints.
- John (10/5): - Great place
- Edward (8/5): - Cool place to stay. Lots of construction around the property.
- Claire (10/5): - Loved
- Matthew (4/5): -
- Evvie (10/5): - Construction has changed the vibe, but the rooms and the staff were great!
- Matthew (10/5): - The tiny room took some getting used to, as did the shared bathroom. But I rarely saw any other patrons and never had to wait.
- Wataru (6/5): - The hotel is located in one of the nice and quiet neighborhoods in Manhattan. There are nice restaurants, bars, and cafes within walking distance. There is also the riverside once you cross the expressway. So it's perfect for walking and jogging. One negative thing, and the main reason why my rating is lower, is the inaccuracy of hotel information. I picked this place based on the nice authentic interiors at the lobby, very cool bars, rooftop, and the restaurant. But the hotel didn't have those. I learned from the staff, the owner of the hotel changed, and they separated those areas from the hotel and now run them as a club lounge. So I didn't go. It would've been helpful if the hotel website / Expedia's pictures were properly updated. Also, I thought it would be a great idea if the hotel prepares earplugs so people can sleep well since you easily hear people working in the hallway, watching TV, and the sounds of ACs.
- Deborah Grace (8/5): - Check in was super easy and the staff was friendly. The space was clean. The room was just smaller than the pictures lead us to believe. Which wasnt a problem it was just kinda funny.
- Nicole (8/5): - The Jane Hotel is an old hotel but quaint. I booked a twin bed with shared bathroom. The room is small. The remote for the tv is annoying as you gotta hold it at certain angle to switch channels. A/C works really good. Floor carpet could be cleaner. Plenty of space for storage. They didn't provide any washcloth just a small size hand towel and body towel.
If you're on your phone a lot, i don't recommend this place. Wifi isn't great. No internet connection in this hotel even without their wifi.
Shated bathroom was a new experience. 2 showers and 2 toilets on the floor i stayed on. They could have a place for you to keep your shoes when showering. The shower was spacious. Water pressure good. It got hot but not scalding hot which would've been nice. Plenty of room in toilet area too. Also 2 sinks with mirror and 1 hand dryer.
Location is a bit of a walk from subway station if taking C or E train there. Also you can catch bus to it, M14 and M20. I took the M20 straight down 8th Av to get to MSG. Then after leaving MSG i just walked back up 8th Av to the hotel.
Park is nearby of Bleeker St and 8th Av. Plenty of restaurants and stores off 8th Av too.
Check-in process was easy. You can do it ahead of your trip via link they send by text or email. Also check-out was easy too.
Overall nice stay, just the wifi needs work.
- Jennifer (6/5): - The pictures are a lie! Since the hotel was sold all of the areas shown in the advertised pictures like the bell hop, front desk, basically the look of the Hotel Tower of Terror is gone. It is now a private club and inaccessible to guests. I was so disappointed. I brought my daughter here be cause I knew she would love it. What a mjor let down. I will NEVER stay here again . TAKE DOWN THE MISLEADING PHOTOS!!
- Jacob (10/5): - Great area close to the high line
- GERALD (2/5): - BEDBUGS!!! Found them on my bed. And someone came into my room because they gave that person access by mistake
- Rory (10/5): - There is a real charm to this place that should be preserved and celebrated! And the price can't be beat. Also hard to imagine a more chill location in Manhattan.
- JENNIFER (10/5): - Very unique!! It was clean and staff were friendly.
- Peter (8/5): - Perfectly fulfilled what I needed during my visit to the city - a comfortable, quiet place to lay down for the night. The staff were clear about communicating a need for me to change rooms mid-stay due to renovations being done on my floor and it wasn't an issue. I did note an odd odor in some of the hallways, though.
- Jeanne (10/5): - I LOVED the Jane Hotel. Not fancy, carpets worn and all that. But clean, impecable service and so much character. And the price and location cannot be beat.
- Gregory (10/5): - I believe this is my 4th or 5th time staying there and I like it as a solo traveler. Liking booking this hotel.
- Manuel Antonio Arteaga (10/5): - Great
- Alexis (2/5): - My stay at The Jane Hotel was extremely disappointing. As soon as I stepped off the elevator on the 4th floor, the entire hallway reeked of urine — the smell was so strong it gave me a headache. I had to request a room change because it was simply unbearable.
When I mentioned this to the front desk, they acknowledged it. They explained that some tenants live in the building and that “their smell is very, very strong.” Honestly, it’s shocking that they are renting out rooms as a hotel under these conditions. No guest should have to tolerate a hallway that smells like a public restroom.
To make matters worse, the website is misleading. It advertises a charming hotel experience with a restaurant, lobby, and bar — but those no longer exist for guests. They’ve been turned into a private social club, completely inaccessible to hotel visitors.
Overall, between the poor conditions, lack of transparency, and misrepresentation, I would strongly advise against staying here.
- Tara (8/5): - Love that you feel as if you have stopped back on time! So many unique features!
- Robert (6/5): - Good location but the room was surprisingly small, almost a cupboard. Had to breathe in to turn around!!
- Denis (10/5): - Great vibes all over the hotel! Encountered a few homeless (?) people inside the property… but other than that – a really nice place to stay in NYC.
- Jinwei (8/5): - Decent
- Daryl (10/5): - Definitely on of the more unique pod style experiences in such a historic hotel. Rooms were small but comfy and I definitely appreciated having a tv and air conditioner. Great food, shops, barber, etc within walking distance and its right across the street from the Hudson for beautiful water views. Would definitely stay here again.
- Robert (3/5): I will not come back. I have stayed in better places for less money in NYC. - Friendly reception, accommodating. They helped us with a booking confusion. Air conditioner was super loud and outdated. I was there years ago and the place has changed about 50%. No more breakfast room, reception is in the basement now. It went from being a Gem to being like a youth hostel.

- Christopher (10/5): Christopher at the Jane! - I love the Jane! Staff is always courteous and easy.
My only complaint is that each floor always has one shower door that won’t stay open after use. Those showers smell because they never air out. Mildew smell is awful compared to the shower where the door is always open. I made this suggestion before but I guess it fell on deaf ears. I’ve stayed on every floor…shows how often I return. ;))
Other than that….I will always return
- jessica (8/5): - Location is great
