Guest Reviews
- David Young (7/5): - Great kocation Small rooms
- Koko (6/5): Great staff and location - This was my second time staying at Swinton hotel. The location is good, not too far from the King's Cross station and pretty good food options nearby. The staff are always very nice. The windows for the bathroom did not close fully so we had to take shower with the windows half open. Although the buildings are not too close, it's still facing some apartments, we felt a bit insecure. The wifi was weak - maybe because our room was on the 3rd floor since when i stayed last time, the wifi was ok.
- Laralee (6/5): -
- Fraser (1/5): For me, The worst - Location wasn’t the problem That One night has caused so much discomfort. Bed bugs have made my week hell, bitten beyond belief. 1st time I’ve ever come across that in my life. It totally ruined my overseas trip that followed. Been the worst stay & week
- Michael (8/5): -
- Natalie (10/5): Good value, great location - My second time staying here. Good value for the location. Room was clean. Staff are so kind. Will stay here again:-)
- Auriel (10/5): Good value, good location, comfortable room - Nice little en suite room convenient location within walking distance of kings Cross and tube. Pleasant view of garden. Friendly staff.
- Laura (5/5): Good location, very basic but clean so did a job for a good price - Good location, clean No hot water or toilet roll in the room.
- Wee (2/5): Very poor -
- Hendrik (6/5): Pleasant - Good bed, good location. Located near very noisy street, no pillow case on my bed, very large and heavy key ring for the doors, no tea in my room, garden wasn't open when we stayed but that may not be the property's fault.
- Carlo (5/5): Ok for short period. 1-2 days max, very basic - Ok Location
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kimberley (8/5): A very convenient spot, comfortable, with friendly staff - The location of the hotel was perfect, a 10 minute walk from Kings Cross with plenty of places to get fast food, groceries or brunch nearby.
A check-in time of 1.30pm is a little unusual and very handy.
The reception staff were friendly and happy to store my mobility aid so that I didn't have to keep it in my room.
The garden area is a welcome feature and part of the reason I booked this hotel over other similar places. Having a peaceful outside space with lots of options for seating and conversation was lovely. Yes, the room was small, stairs to the entrance, no aircon, this is all pretty standard for a non purpose-built hotel in London. As is traffic noise, to an extent.
But the traffic noise in a ground floor, street-facing room was significant. Even with the double windows closed it was maddening at certain times of day and late into the night. The road outside is part of the A501, and it shows.
Another thing I'd point out is that there is work going on in part of the building that is closed off, but detritus seems to have spilled out into the garden so it was quite untidy in places.
Finally, the bathroom was way past its best and in dire need of updating, so whilst it may have been as clean as possible it still looked grubby due to age, rust stains etc.
- Shalyn (5/5): Unpleasant and dirty - I didn’t like anything about this property Not Clean - the bathroom was very small and the shower door had visible dirt and mould in the corners and door. Water in the bathroom sink would not flow and the carpet leading to the room was very dirty.
The place is located on a road with frequent traffic. We could hear large trucks passing by and any pedestrians that passed our room.
There was no air conditioning or a fan in the room and it was a hot day/night making the room very very hot.
Honestly not a great stay.
- Daly (3/5): Dirty. Moldy. - Room was nicely decorated for the size. Tv didn't have freeview as advertised. Dusty. Black mold in the bathroom. Sheets felt stiff and dirty. Tea and coffee facilities had disposable cups for some reason.
- Jim (7/5): Ok - N/a N/a
- David (1/5): Bad - Non Room was infested with bedbugs
- Sonja (6/5): Price Value is okay, but hotel can use some renovation - We had room downstairs with doors to the small garden at the backside of the hotel. That was good so that we good sit outside and that we couldn't hear the traffic passing by in front of the hotel.
The hotel is near King's cross railways station so easy to reach by walk
The staff gave us a small fan to cool down the room.
We had one double bed and one single bed. Matrass was comfortable. The corridor to reach the room is very narrow and the carpet in the corridor is very dirty and old.
When we arrived the room was very warm. The heating was on, while it was 28 degrees outside!
The garden behind is okay to sit in but could do with some more flowers and clean ashtrays.
- Rikke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (3/5): Poor - No A/C, no fan in room, different from photos.
- Marcel (8/5): Very good - See previous ticks The constant noise of traffic especially the roaring bikes
- Mark (5/5): Passable - No breakfast Small room, hot with no fan,or AC narrow hallways, steep and narrow stairs, construction noise beginning around 7a.m., noise of walking and rolling suitcases in room above.
- Ceren (9/5): Superb -
- Marina (8/5): Very good -
- Wray (7/5): Resonably priced bed for the night - A comfortable, functional place to stay. No heirs or graces its a reasonable place to rest up for a short stay the steepness of the stairs to the room would prove an issue to anyone with a mobility issue or who requires assistance
- Marcin (1/5): BED BUGS room 30 - BED BUGS
- Paris (3/5): Poor - Good value for money & good location Very basic & rough decor, wouldn’t stay again
- Clive (8/5): Very good -
- Sagar (4/5): Disappointing -
- Veronica (3/5): . Stand firm and don’t agree to these cynical greedy cash grabs, After they backed down they were a little more helpful - Location short walk to St Pancras Station, Room small partially renovated. At least the property had a workable lift which is what I require because I am travelling with 2 large suitcases which I do not wish to drag up flights of stairs. That the owners were not honest and transparent. After I had booked a non refundable booking they sent me a message that they would be deducting a 100 pound security deposit from my credit card. I was absolutely outraged to cover damages and losses to the property from potential bad conduct such as Loud parties and any damage to the room. The room was so small you couldn’t swing a cat in there, there is no way you could have a large crowd in the room. I am an elderly female traveller in my mid 70’s I do not have parties in hotel rooms nor do I engage in smashing up hotel rooms. I sent them a very nasty email back telling them they had no authority to deduct this charge from my credit card and I would be lodging a dispute with both my bank and Booking.com if they dared charge my credit with this cynical greedy cash grab. They certainly backed off and I asked them if it had been charged when I checked in and they said they don’t do that any more
- Hanka (6/5): Pleasant - Location was good No air conditioning, hot in July. The bathroom teeny tiny, needs renovating. And the noise from the street!!
- Jennifer (6/5): Wonderful location, very kind staff, but room had some issues that would have been nice resolved - Staff were super friendly and helpful, responding quickly to questions I raised shortly before my check-in date. Hotel is in a prime location, being only 10-15 minutes' walk from Kings Cross. Strong connection in the room with the complimentary wi-fi. Property had a lift if required by guests. Room was overwarm due to both current heatwave and lack of AC/fans. Whilst it didn't impact me much due to me only staying for one night, the TV in the room didn't work, and there was no sugar/sweetener provided with the tea/coffee facilities which would have been super useful. Mattress in the room was very firm, and contrasted a lot with the one very soft pillow provided, so not the most comfortable of sleeps (though again, heat would also have had an impact.
- Andrew (4/5): Disappointing -
- Asun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jessica (7/5): Good -
- Omar (7/5): Good -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Lesley (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (7/5): Good - The room was quite large with access to the garden. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet. The toiletries were nice. Mr Patel in the evening of my first day was very helpful and gave me a chair and a fan for the room (I stayed for 2 nights). The location close to Kings Cross /St Pancras is convenient. The hotel was a bit grubby looking and is in fact in the process of renovation. Because of this, there was no breakfast option and this should have been made clear on this website because that is one reason I chose the hotel. It's not in the best area and I wouldn't have wanted to come back late on my own - it was fine during the day though.
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Akhtar (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (8/5): Great location for a short trip - We stayed for one night and overall, it was a decent experience for a short stay. The room was very basic but had the essentials, including a kettle with tea, coffee, and a few extras.
The shower looked newly renovated and was quite modern, although it only had cold water during our stay. With the temperature around 25°C, it was a bit of a shock at first but not a major issue.
There were a few small fruit flies in the room, possibly because the windows had been left open before we arrived. A bath mat had been neatly placed by the shower, but it looked used and wasn't very clean, which felt a bit questionable.
The bed was already made and the mattress looked brand new—very clean—but extremely hard, which made it tough to get comfortable. The mattress protector also had a stain, so housekeeping could be improved a little.
There was also quite a bit of noise from upstairs during check-in and check-out times, which sounded like furniture being moved around.
That said, the staff were great—really friendly and helpful. They also let us store our luggage both before check-in and after check-out, which was a great perk and made things much easier for us.
Despite a few small issues, it was perfectly fine for a one-night stay.
- Chibuogu (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mark (5/5): Room ok shower not the best but in general was ok but - Location to station was good Expensive for room
- Malcolm (2/5): Very poor -
- Neil (7/5): Good location for train stations, underground and buses. - Good location for Kings Cross and Euston stations, quiet street, comfortable room, Wifi worked well Cold water could have been provided. A lot of stairs to get to my room
- Martine (4/5): not okay - best part is that it is less the 10 minutes from the international train station. The staff is friendly and I could leave my luggage for a few hours. Super noisy area and the hotel seems run down. I hardly ever feel unsafe in a hotel, but i blocked my door before going to sleep. Prices are always high in London and the price here wasn't too bad, but still it really felt out of sync this time.
- Marc (9/5): Superb - Staff was very friendly and able to help in all things.
- Hubert (4/5): Disappointing -
- David (7/5): Good -
- Maria (10/5): Polite attitude, nice room - Very nice room, lift in hotel All fine
- Canadian (3/5): Well located, well priced, and you risk getting what you paid for - The hotel is well located, they have friendly professional staff at the front, and the price is fair for what you get ... assuming there are no unexpected 'extras'. While the room looked clean and well kept, the bathroom smelled strongly of mold. Worse, I woke up the day afterwards with a number of bites on my body, so I suspect I was bitten by bed bugs. I just hope they aren't traveling with me now.
- Fangyu (1/5): Bad - No AC & no fan.
Room didn’t have light on the last night of stay. When we returned at night and noticed that there was no light, staff informed us that the works next door earlier in the afternoon had affected the lighting in our room. Staff was not forthcoming and did not have a solution for us and kept telling us to wait for a few minutes while he tried to reset the light and speak to the manager. After hours of waiting, we had to ask if we could be shifted to another hotel/ have the night of stay refunded, hotel staff then decided to help look for alternative accommodation and sought for approval on refund.. Not how one would like to spend a vacation..
- Jenny (10/5): Close to King’s Cross! - Nice place. Safe and clean All good
- Jason (1/5): No AC is criminal especially in this heatwave. No hot water whatsoever… terrible! Wouldn’t recommend - No AC is criminal especially in this heatwave. No hot water whatsoever… terrible! Wouldn’t recommend No AC is criminal especially in this heatwave. No hot water whatsoever… terrible! Wouldn’t recommend
- Jonathan (5/5): Passable -
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (9/5): Great weekend stay - Great location ,clean and friendly staff
- Richard (1/5): Disappointed, not worth the high price - Location There was no hot water in the room. Made multiple complains and had to be moved to a new room after 24 hours.
The bathroom was a "wet room" but in reality it was a toilet with a bad showerhead above, drenching everything when used. The bathroom floor drain was blocked so gunk and water would cover the floor after a shower.
The first impression was opening the room door which immediate hits the cramped bedside table behind it knocking everything off, not a good sign.
- Paulina (8/5): Good place for a city break. - Convenient location, very friendly staff, good price for London.
- Anita (2/5): Not worth the price - Room size was adequate for 4 people Property is run down. No hot water. Didn’t feel clean.
- Thaís (7/5): Fair - Good location and staff really nice. Our room was really hot
- Lorenzo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephan (7/5): Good - Convenient location, small but clean room, comfortable bed Traffic noise.
- Joanne (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff, quiet clean room Early checknout
- Claire (8/5): Very good -
- Amanda (7/5): Good - Good sized room, comfortable bed, friendly staff Lacking in small touches, no shades on light fittings, felt impersonal. Basement room, so view from window was unattractive.
- Emily (5/5): Passable - Great location Bathroom not clean. Shower needs new door as all black mould around the bottom so did not want to use
- Steingold (3/5): Perfect, clean and friendly hotel that is not comfortable and relaxing. Not worth the savings due to discomfort. - Staff was very friendly and accommodating and location was perfect. Room was like being in a dungeon as it was downstairs. No air conditioning and the sun hits the glass windows baking the room which did not cool off til 11pm. The room was below the lobby and you could hear the door close, people walking and loud thumps.
- Wayne (6/5): Noisy and hot - In a good location, close to King’s Cross/St Pancras Tiny room, with a small bed with a lumpy mattress. The room was hot and humid when I arrived, and did not improve once I worked out how to open the window. The heat necessitated leaving the window open at all times, meaning it was very noisy, with all night traffic and the bonus of rubbish collection trucks. In combination with the mattress, it was hard to have a decent night’s sleep.
- Katharina (5/5): Passable - The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bathroom wasn't great. Also the lift was so noisy in the room.
- Penelope (2/5): Very poor -
- Alexandra (5/5): It was fine. - Proximity to Kings Cross. Garden. Handy local pub. Stairs. Door locks flimsy - didn’t really feel secure. Room design made no bedside table possible - had to get up to switch off bed light. No breakfast option because of building work (and no reduction in rate accordingly).
- Terry (5/5): Passable -
- Martin (5/5): Passable -
- Denita (8/5): Great stay. - Old but clean, good location to King's Cross and other public transport.
Hotel is dated but clean and friendly, nothing to much trouble. Very small shower and toilet room.
- Judith (5/5): Good position, clean but room very small - Very small room
- Schwinge (1/5): Bad - Bedbugs
- Schwinge (1/5): Bad - Bedbugs
- Jane (8/5): Enjoyed my stay room small but perfectly adequate - very convenient location Staff are very pleasant. Can’t think of anything
- GaryBrazel (8/5): London Budget Accomodations - It's a modest establishment with for London budget friendly prices. It's clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower fine and the WiFi excellent. There is a small kettle in the room with Nescafe packets, tea and milk
The location is good, too on a fairly quiet street a short walk from King's Cross St. Pancras tube station. It's a 24 minute walk to the British Museum.
There's a comfortable seating area near reception if you have to wait to check-in or take off after check-out. There is a lavatory, too.
They will store your bag, also.
Despite a sign in the room indicating that check-out is at 11:00, it's instead at a very early 10:30. They actually knocked on my door at 10:45 telling me it was past check-out time.
- Stephen (7/5): Good value, excellent staff - Location Tight corridors and doorways difficult to navigate with a case
- Carly (10/5): It worked well - Area was great and really easy to reach The tv didn’t work
No bath and the bed was broken
- Glen (8/5): Awesome - Nice and peaceful surroundings with mini park for leisure Small especially toilet.
- Isaac (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were extremely helpful, accommodating, and professional.
- Dahlaina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (5/5): Passable - The staff were really nice The rooms at the top were very hot
- Jolanta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashley (9/5): Superb -
- Khan (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (4/5): good location but dissappointing on the basic standards , could do better with a little more effort. - location was excellent for Eurostar Basement room was in need of updating and repair . Simple things like fixing the shower door so it works , cleaning the room properly , floor needed sweeping and hoovering , dirty shower area , bathroom tap broken , same for shower head . These are basic things that need doing and for £208 per night I 'd expect a simple level of cleanliness and items that work .Heating radiator leaking onto floor even tho it was off.The beds were clean and comfortable , but all else needed a good level of basic cleaning .For one night I couldn't be bothered to tell the staff and to be honest I suspect they know of the defects anyway. Its a good location and has great potential but just needs the basics doing better.Staff excellent and helpful and I hope they take on board the constructive criticism points made .
- Priyabrata (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maida (8/5): Very good -
- Zibusiso (4/5): Disappointing -
- Tommyw (3/5): An experience but not a good one - Not a lot to say about this place , Most of it
- Christopher (10/5): Great location - Location and staff were great Nothing
- Giuliano (3/5): Poor -
- Jennifer (7/5): Good -
- Baydu (8/5): Great location, almost everything else needs improving - Location is great, reception is open for 24 hours Narrow corridors, very narrow corridors
- Carolyn (3/5): Good location, but not sufficient to make me want to stay again - Location was good.
Bed was reasonably comfortable
Ability to leave cases for later collection when checking out. The shower was lukewarm at best
The pillows were the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced.
There was a strange smell upon entry, although this dispersed by opening the windows,
