Guest Reviews
- Eva (10/5): - Lovely staff who was attentive. A little outdated but that was part of its charm. Wonderful breakfast. Family run. A
- Peter (10/5): I'll be back next year - the hotel is spotless. I have stayed there several times before and will stay there again in the future. The hotel is in a nice quiet neighborhood with several shops and bars/restaurants nearby. The train is barely a 10 minute walk. and maybe 15-20 minutes to get to the central station. If you don't want to stay in the city center with all the noise and hustle and bustle, this is the place to stay
- Markus (10/5): Gute Unterkunft - Ich habe mich hier sehr wohl gefühlt und gut Aufgehoben gefunden.
komme gerne wieder.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful place to stay - Owner/operator was delightful - we really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was great. Rooms were cozy, but comfortable.
- James (10/5): - Great family run hotel with good sized rooms. The breakfast choice was excellent. We came when the snow hot Germany big time. The snow ploughs were working all night to clear the roads in typical German efficiency. Good location if you need a hotel on the way back from south Germany to fly out of Munich airport the next day,
- Marion (10/5): Happy, happy! - We were delighted with this hotel. It fitted our needs perfectly for a weekend stay in Munich.
We were on a short family catch-up visit. The location was perfect.
We happily availed of hospitality offerings and the small lounge facilities. The staff were extremely helpful and benefited from being a family run hotel.
If we were to go back to Munich we would definitely book again.
The sun shone as well - what more could you ask?!
- Ruth (8/5): - We stayed in this hotel while visiting Munich for Oktoberfest. It was perfect and would definitely stay here again.
- Jennifer (10/5): Excellent and enjoyable hotel stay - We stayed for two nights in March of 2018 with our adult daughter. We found the hotel to be outstanding and are planning on staying there again on our next visit to this area. Our check in was smooth and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and had plenty of room for the three adults staying there. We all remarked that the shower was one of the best parts of our stay as it had very good pressure. The beds were comfortable. We ate breakfast both mornings and found the food and the service to be excellent. We enjoyed the fruit, yogurt, meats, breads, and made-to-order eggs. When we needed assistance to find out how to take the train into Munich, the evening worker at the front desk gave us very detailed and helpful information about the tickets, schedule, and things to do and eat. Overall our stay was very enjoyable and we found it to be five stars across the board! Thank you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good choice - Breakfast was exceptionally rich. Staff were helpful. Will definitely come back
- Marius (10/5): Pleasant place - Great atmosphere
- Scottie (10/5): Nice hotel - The rooms are clean and the staff is wonderful. Just a little smaller then I expected. There was enough room to walk around the bed but that was about it. My large travel bag barely had room to lay down and get into. Aside of this there is nothing I could see wrong. The hotel staff is wonderful and the rooms are clean and nice.
- Ruth (8/5): Nice hotel. Easy train ride to downtown - The hotel is very cute and the staff were excellent.
- Kristopher (8/5): I would return to this hotel! - Very friendly staff. Got in early before checkin. Cleaning the room at the time, but they let us check in after it was cleaned! Very helpful. They gave us a map and told us how to get to the train station and what to see in Munich. Also, told us restaurants near by if we needed to eat. Also, there was a fan in our room and that made it more comfortable. I requested the top floor and a quiet room and both request were met. Definitely would return to this hotel!
- Kristopher (8/5): Good hotel - would return! - Staff were friendly and very helpful. Gave us a map of Munich and told us how to get to the railroad station. Also, gave us information on places we might want to check out. The room was very comfortable and we were thankful for the fan in the room. The breakfast was very good and a wide variety of food was offered.
- First time to E (10/5): Fantastic - So glad we choose to stay here. While a small bit out of the way, it was most conveniently located a short 6 minutes from the S bahn in Aubing. Everyone at the hotel was wonderful, helpful and most professional. There were three in our party and the setup of our room was very convenient. Breakfast was not included in the room fee but was so nice we opted to add it. Would definitely stay here again!
- Alexander (10/5): Great hotel - Great hotel. Friendly staff. Clean comfortable rooms. Close to the train to Munich. Not very much to see around the hotel but it does have a few restaurants.
- Rudy (10/5): Very good location - Staff was outstanding, we felt like at home. The staff had answers for everything we asked for without delay.
- Paul (10/5): Great hotel 15min from city centre - Comfortable bed, good breakfast, very clean, room made up everyday.
Only issue is not having a double bed - 2 x twin beds but not a major problem.
5 min walk to S-bahn public transport straight into city centre.
Overall excellent
- Thomas (10/5): Very Nice Hotel In Quiet Neighborhood - Extremely pleasant stay with friendly staff, excellent service, and a very good breakfast. Short walk to the S Bahn (and they can sell you a ticket at the hotel). Very pleased and would like to stay there again. Highly recommend this hotel when in Munich.
- Victor (10/5): Great Place to Stay - This is a very nice hotel. Feels like a family run place. Nice and homely feeling. Rooms were new and well kept, shower was very nice. Breakfast has good variety and very authentic local food. Reception staff were extremely helpful. Introduced two excellent places for dinner, which my family enjoyed very much. This is a place that I will surely return. Location was excellent although a short walk to train station. Its not too near the city centre, but in a nice neighbourhood with convenient travel to the centre.
- Verified traveler (10/5): excellent value for money - The staff are exceptionally helpful! The hotel is in a quiet area with very good access to Munich centre. We enjoyed the splendid breakfasts. Attention to detail was splendid.
- Patricia (10/5): Such a gem! - I was so pleased with this hotel. It is family owned and you can see the pride in it. It was just outside of Munich and we had to take a short train ride downtown. The walk to the train station took a few minutes. It was a quaint neighborhood with small shops and charming homes. Everyone that worked at the hotel was friendly and accomodating. I would stay there agaion and would recommend it to anyone traveling into Munich.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent front desk.
Rooms very nice...good size, quality furnishings, excellent housekeeping.
Wait staff in the restaurant seemed a little out of sorts, but a pleasant experience overall and quality food.
- Diana (10/5): Wonderful hotel, ready to go back again! - We needed to book 3 days at a hotel during Oktoberfest and found the Hotel Gruenwald that was only about 20 minutes by train from the city center. The price was very good compared to other hotels during this time. We took the S-Bahn to the Aubing stop and found a sign right as we went down the steps of the train station. It was only about a 5-10 minute walk to hotel. We were checked in by Bernhard, the son of the owner, who was very helpful and gave us information on the local area as well as some pointers about attending Oktoberfest. Our room was on the top floor, on the street side so there was a little bit of traffic noise, but nothing loud later in the evening. We were given a mini-suite that had a bedroom and small sitting area with great Wi-Fi reception. Even though the building is 120 years old, the rooms are beautifully updated. The bathroom only had a shower (not tub) but it was fantastic. We also loved the heated towel rack. Our rate didn't include the breakfast buffet but we did eat there every morning because it was a reasonable rate and included many different options. You could also get eggs cooked to order. We also enjoyed a local restaurant, Zum Burenwirt, that had a mini Oktoberfest tent and food specials at very reasonable prices. We are already hoping that we can go back to Munich and stay there again.
- Sonny (10/5): Great Family Hotel - We had a wonderful experience at Hotel Gruenwald. The location was perfect for us since we had a rental car and they have 2 parking lots. You can walk to the S Bahn station around 10 minutes and take the subway to the city center in around 20 minutes. Aubing is a part of Munich however it is charming with some restaurants and bakeries. We had dinner there as well as coffee at the local bakery.
- Beth (8/5): Lovely hotel. - Very nice hotel in a quiet neighborhood close to the train station. Not as close to downtown as expected.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely, comfortable hotel in a good location with easy access to train for going into city. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
- Kristi (10/5): 2014 European Travelers - Awesome family run establishment! Terrific people, excellent breakfast and very helpful. Rooms are very clean, contemporary and spacious. The family is very helpful in providing directions and assistance. I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. It is a must stay!
- Laura (10/5): Loved the hotel! - I really enjoyed my stay. Very personalized and cheerful service, clean comfortable room, delicious breakfast. Highly recommend.
- Lisa (8/5): Nice hotel close to a train stop. - Hotel is not in a tourist area, but is easily accessible by train. Great value at discount prices. Rooms very comfortable. Cozy public area and pleasant staff.
- andrew (8/5): charm of a hotel - Very nice hotel, large rooms, nice property, clean in and out. decent parking friendly staff. use caution with the train at night as late night stops are not very frequent. we ended up spending a lot on a taxi after exploring Munich at night. would highly recommend this hotel.
- Maggie (10/5): Nice quiet location. - Great hotel family owned and operated since the 1890's. It's in a small, quiet village just a 15 minute ride on the S-Bahn to central Munich. It was like returning to the countryside after a busy day in Munich. Our room was spacious. The breakfast was very good and the dining area was beautiful. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Should we return to Munich we would definitely stay there again.
- a (10/5): Very Enjoyable stay - Very Enjoyable stay Very Enjoyable stay Very Enjoyable stayVery Enjoyable stay
- Bob (10/5): Tight - This is our 2nd stay @ the Gruenwald. This time we had a single room, due to my error in booking. Much tighter room, however we managed. Everything else was just as great as the first time. EXCELLENT HOTEL.
- Bob (10/5): What a great find! - Pulling into the parking lot, I was immediately impressed. The whole scene looked like a picture. So clean & well maintained. The interior was even better. The whole Hotel including our room looked like it had just been remodeled. In taking with Bernhard (5th generation operator) he said the upkeep is continuous. Even all the windows were spotless. Breakfast was awesome as well as the staff. You must stay here for the full effect. You won't be sorry. Deserves 4 stars.
- Michael (8/5): Quaint Bavarian setting minutes from the city. - Quiet and comfortable with friendly, helpful staff and easy transit access.
- ETB (10/5): They think of everything! - We really enjoyed our stay here at Hotel Gruenwald. It is an older building with a history of family service since 1896. The hotel is very well decorated in a traditional way, and our room was beautiful. We had a separate sitting area that was much appreciated at the end of the day. There is parking available if you happen to be driving. We were given very good directions on arrival as to where the local restaurants are located. We took the train into Munich, again with good directions to follow. There are no transfers if you are going to the city centre, so it is very easy. Tickets are available at the hotel. Coming back, when we got off the train, there was a sign directing us to the hotel and another once we were on the street pointing us in the right direction. Breakfast is available and there is a good variety of food available. We would highly recommend this hotel.
- Lornajay (10/5): First Class Hotel - Hotel Gruenwald was just perfect. There were 3 adults sharing a room which may have proved uncomfortable but the room was very spacious and we managed just fine. Nice comfy beds and nice clean toilet/ shower room. Staff at hotel were just so very nice. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was well worth the extra money. The town itself was just so quaint and very German which added to our stay. It was easily accessible to Munich by train.Overall a wonderful hotel which I would really recommend.
- Ted (10/5): Delightful hotel - The room was clean and spacious, the staff agreeable and helpful, and we we loved our time there. From city center, one takes the S4 train and gets off in Aubing. Signs at the Aubing station point out the direction for the hotel and it's a seven-minute walk through a pleasant neighborhood. Breakfast was delicious. We'd love to stay there again sometime in the future.
- Frank (10/5): Nice suburb of Munich - Lovely room and great service. The bathroom in this room, however, was extremely small with a shower stall that you could barely stand in.
- Carol (10/5): Great Place to Rest and to Explore - We spent the last few nights of our month long vacation here. It was quiet and restful as well as easy to jump back into the action (an easy drive or train ride to many special spots in Munich). The staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good, and the room was comfortable. We would stay there again.
- Lauren (10/5): Quiet & cosy - Elegant hotel. Nice staff, very helpful. Room was very comfortable. Loved the candy on the pillows!
- Sandy (8/5): Lovely hotel, excellent staff, and a quiet lovely - We loved our stay at the Hotel. It was an easy Metro ride from historic Munich. The hotel was wonderful. The room was spacious and had beautiful wall sconces and chandelier. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We would love to stay here again!
- syed monib (8/5): Excellent Service and English Speaking - Great Stay , the service was very good and managers conversant with English were very friendly and co operative overall very nice stay -Thanks
- Flavio (10/5): Wonderful Grundwald!!! - Despite the fact is not located in the center of the city, was not a problem since we were equipped with a car. People are first class always prepared to help and open for everything. The the room was very spacious for the family and very clean. The breakfast was great and people serving we're very nice. Being in Munich we will stay again in the same hotel.
- Alicia (10/5): Brilliant!! Highly recommend. - Much higher standard than rating given. Quality was outstanding & very pleasing. Most comfortable. Buffet breakfast was superior, we will return to enjoy these comforts again. Thank you!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice family owned hotel - Very quite family owned hotel, well maintained. Great breakfast served by "la patronne"
- Verified traveler (10/5): Outside of downtown but train runs right into town - Great hotel outside of Munich. You get a more traditionally German feel with this hotel with it being in a small town. It was only a short walk from the Aubing train station with signs along the way to help you find it. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We didn't have breakfast there so no comment on that one. We would stay here again.
