Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location in middle of Rome. Nice small cafe next door.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is a lovely apartment close to both the Vatican and a metro stop. It is also on the first floor. The owner is very kind and helpful and will make some arrangements for you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very close to the Vatican and handy for metro to get around. Basic but everything you need and fantastic value for money in an expensive city.
- Hugues (10/5): Owner really cares for his guests - The owner really cares for his guests, he made sure that everything was fine for us. We had a great time there, 5 min walking from the Vatican.
- Sarah (10/5): Well placed B&B - Very well placed B&B 2 minutes walk from the metro and the Vatican city. Clean comfortable room and functional kitchen. Area feels safe and we had no issues at night. The breakfast is from the Lemon Tree cafe next door and consists of a pastry and coffee. ( they serve the best gelato here too) would definitely stay again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Host was very helpful and accommodating. Rooms were very clean. Excellent location and very reasonably priced. . Air conditioning worked great. Kitchen was very clean and had basic supplies. Breakfast vouchers for a yummy croissant and cappuccino or coffee. I would highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again when I am in Rome next.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Self check in was great. Lots of information was provided when we got to room. The room was very clean and charming,
- jannice (10/5): - Bra boende, nära Metro, bra läge.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved the location near the Vatican and great restaurants near by.
- Katarzyna (10/5): Ottaviano Augusto godny polecenia. - Polecam wszystkim podróżującym lokal / obiekt Ottaviano Augusto. Blisko Watykanu i innych atrakcji turystycznych.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Todo perfecto.
- Julia Carina (10/5): Great hotel - The hotel is great on a magnificent location , virtually you are staying at the vatican. Just remodeled facilities. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.
- rosolino (8/5): - ottimo. vicinissimo Piazza San Pietro. Posti raggiungibili in metro in brevissimo tempo.
- Marja (8/5): - Viihtyisä, ystävällinen palvelu, erittäin hyvä sijainti.
- ana (10/5): - Muy buena atención
Vista a la catedral de San Pedro
- Rajan (10/5): - Location was amazing. Despite low price for the room, all amenities were there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good close to everything nice hotel. Mauro was excellent very reachable
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location and nice room! - We loved our stay at this Bed and Breakfast. It was a great location. It was close to the Metro stop and just a few blocks from the Vatican. We would recommend this place to a friend!
- julie (10/5): - Very nice owner. Good location. Very clean. Kitchen is very useful and clean.
- Lara (10/5): Great location, great staff, very clean - Ottaviano Augusto was a great choice. If we will go back to Rome we will definitely book this place again! The place is located very close to the Vatican and the metro.
Room clean with bathroom and AC, kitchen and fridge outside the room free to use, breakfast included in a nice cafe next to the hotel, and a friendly host.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great! - Pros: Clean! Newly renovated! Very close to Vatican (7 minute walk)! Friendly and helpful host!
Cons: Not really a con, but it's a shared apartment (including 2 bedrooms with separate private baths, but shared kitchen & hallway), so maybe if you have noisy neighbors that could be an issue. We did not hear our neighbors.
Overall, I would definitely stay again!!
- Tina (10/5): Stay here - you won't be disappointed - This is a B&B, only a five-minute walk from the Vatican and the Metro. Mauro, the owner, communicated by email ahead of our stay and everything was as promised. Not a fancy hotel, but we were very happy with the cleanliness, the big bathroom, nice neighborhood with lots of restaurants, etc. Would highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Very convenient to Vatican City . Nice neat and comfortable room
- Matthew (10/5): awesome room , great location - it was awesome
- Verified traveler (6/5): Glorified Closet - Arrived at B&B and were greeted by the owner, very nice young lady. She showed us the facilities, while exclaiming " you are so big" for the Economy room. I had booked it and did get an Email from the owner that asked if I wanted to upgrade to a bigger room. With the photos I thought it would be fine. Well was I wrong. The room is more a hall way with a bed squeezed in the corner and it is a small bed. I slept for three days squashed against the wall, where there were lots of signs of other faces lingering there. The window opens into the kitchen, so for privacy we kept it closed, so no natural light. One kitchen chair to sit on. Bathroom was nice, but it is showing some wear and tear. Breakfast was okay, latte and a bakery item - cheap and cheerful. Wouldn't return. I guess we got what we paid for - well actually I think we paid far too much.
- Maria (8/5): Location - Perfect location , good price
- Verified traveler (10/5): Ideal location. Bright, clean comfortable room. - We are somewhat new to B&Bs so don't always know what to expect. This was a delightful surprise all around.
We were looking for an affordable room in the Vatican area ... Easy for walking and close to the metro as needed for more remote destinations. This b&b delivered both extremely well!
We look for a clean comfortable room & recognize that in this district the rooms will be "cozy" in size. Our bedroom and bathroom were cleaned every other day ... And we were more than satisfied!👍😀
Breakfast is not served on site. It comes as a coupon for a pastry and coffee (roman breakfast) at a cafe (Lemongrass) just outside the front door. I must say, this was a delightful highlight for us. The lattes were brilliant ... The pastries Devine ... And, according to my daughter, the gelato we enjoyed after our daily adventure was the "best in Rome".
The b&b manager, nor staff, are not on site. They ensured they were there for our arrival, and gave us contact information to get in touch with them should we need them. This was a god-send for us as much of our luggage was lost by the airline en route to Rome. The manager, his family and the staff bent over backwards to ensure someone was at the b&b, available to accept delivery of luggage, while we toured the sights. Otherwise precious days would have been lost - we cannot thank them enough!
If you are looking for comfortable lodgings in the heart of the Vatican area, I would recommend this b&b!
- Helen (8/5): Close to Vatican - We were in the small room. We were told when we booked that it was a small room. We certainly did have a small room. A very small room. But we were only in it to shower and sleep so it was no problem. We were out early every morning and back late at night so it was fine. The B&B is otherwise a nice place and very close to the Vatican and trams/buses etc. We were greeted on our arrival and Mauro was very helpful and friendly and gave us lots of info and tips. It was the only time we saw him. He has a hotline on the phone in the hallway to reach him but we had no reason to contact him for any reason during our stay apart from letting him know of our early morning check-out The B&B is an apartment within a block but it's clean and tidy and we were given our own shelf in the fridge which was handy for keeping water cold in a very hot Rome. He also gave us vouchers to use in the coffee shop, two doors away, for breakfast which was extremely basic by UK standards of a pastry and drink of choice. The Lemongrass also has an excellent variety of Gelato which was hard to resist and we visited every evening on our way home for our triple tub. . Would use this B&B again but would maybe go for one of the bigger rooms.
- Deborah (10/5): Convenient and comfortable. - Hotel was very close to Vatican and metro. Lots of great places to eat and shop close by. Was a very convenient and safe place to stay. Will for sure stay there again when returning to Rome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay at Ottaviano Augusto - Wonderful, small hotel! We were extremely comfortable. Fantastic location, great value!
- Steffen (8/5): Great place near St. Peter's - We selected this hotel because it's only a few minutes walk from St. Peter's Basilica. The hotel (bed and breakfast) was great and Mauro did a fantastic job to provide the best accommodation possible. There is breakfast included in the hotel price, however, the cafe that provides this breakfast does not open until 8:00 AM. If you have tours scheduled that start early (like we did), we weren't able to have breakfast at that place on any day. The good thing is that you can still use the vouchers at a later time for pastry, coffee or water. It would be better, if the hotel makes a deal with a different breakfast buffet place on the other side of the street called "Rendez-Vous". They open at 7:00 AM
- Kayla (8/5): Close to Vatican - This was a cozy stay. Our room was very small, but we were forewarned. The room was clean and convenient for visiting the Vatican. It was more of a walk to visit the center of the city.
- kat (10/5): Great location, facilities, and price - The room, though small, was extremely comfortable, the bathroom was fantastic. Wifi, refrigerator access, etc was great. The location, good for shops and restaurants, the metro, the Vatican. We walked easily to all the main sights in Rome's city centre. We loved it!
- John S (8/5): Nice B&B, great location. - It is very close to Vatican City and subway station, easy access to all attractions. Facilities are good enough, if you are not expecting a four star hotel. The owner is helpful. If you just want to have a place to stay while touring Rome, it is an option without losing your shirt.
- Carrissa (10/5): Unbeatable location - I was traveling around Europe for a couple weeks with two friends and Ottaviano Augusto was one of the best stays we had. The location was perfect- it is right downtown Rome with may shops and stores nearby. It is also right by the Vatican (you could see the Vatican from the outside of the building).
We had a three person room and it was quite small but we had our own bathroom and there is a fridge available. Some of the reviews I read before booking mentioned that it can be loud depending the others staying in the hotel (three rooms and a common area) but we did not have any issues whatsoever. We loved the contented breakfast which was a coupon to Lemongrass which is a cute little coffee and gelato shop right beside the hotel. Breakfast included a pastry or piece of fruit and a coffee of your choice.
If I go to Rome again I would definitely stay at Ottaviano Augusto as the location could not be beat.
- Luc (8/5): Good place to stay - Good spot. Very convenient and friendly
- michelle (8/5): Great location, uncomfortable bed - The location was great and the staff was accommodating, but the bed felt like it was from a cheap pull-out coach.
- Vitaliy (8/5): Great location - This is not a hotel but apartments so do not expect hotel service there, but you can always call them if needed. Great location 5 min from Vatican and metro station. Room clean, free internet and wi-fi. I will recommend to stay there, good price and you cannot hear the street noise.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The owner was great. He showed up when we said we'd be there. He showed us where to go on a map. We received breakfast vouchers for a place next door. With the voucher i believe you could get a croissant or muffin and a drink. So pretty minimal. They had yogurt you could buy there as well. Very good location for Vatican and St.Peters. Also the metro is very close. Not to many great restaurants close by (at least what we found) we usually ate further away if we were visiting the spanish steps..etc. The room was clean and had good space to it. Our only recommend to the owner is to invest in better beds. Ours was uncomfortable. Thats really the only reason i'm giving it a lower rating.
- sharon and doug (10/5): Bed & small brkfst 2 blocks from Vatican - Wonderful, helpful, kind young man who met us at the hotel door.he is not on site but near and came back to help me with the locks for which you have 3.Room small but clean and bathroom a good size with shower.small windows. no view.Tiny elevator.
- Teresa (10/5): Nice Bed and Breakfast hotel - Nice B&B very close to the Vatican entrance. Close to shops, restaurants and metro. The owner is very approachable.
- Ronald J (8/5): Ottaviano Augusto is "Rome-antic" - This is in an excellent location and we recommend it highly for visiting the sights. It is a bit small but very comfortable for a couple or single person.
- Francine (10/5): Perfect for an unbeatable price. - Can't beat the price and the location! It was my second time there and I will be back.
The owners are very helpful and nice.
- joyce (10/5): Good deal in Rome near the Vatican - I rated hotel service less than perfect since there is none. This is a B&B and the owner is not on-site. Nonetheless, Mauro is very prompt in responding to queries and questions before and during our stay. Very very clean room and the bathroom had been updated. The location two blocks from the Vatican and from a Metro station is very convenient and cannot be beat. The free breakfast, coffee + croissant, is a bonus.
- James (8/5): The Best Way to Visit the Vatican - The owners are wonderful. They're very friendly and they run an excellent B&B. The room is not luxurious, but it is very clean and perfectly adequate. It's small just like other European rooms, but it has a nice-sized bathroom with a nice-sized shower and a small patio for smokers. The distance to the Vatican is excellent!! Just a short walk (5 minutes maximum) to St. Peter's Square and the Basilica. Also a very short walk to the Ottaviano-San Pietro Metro stop. It may not be luxurious, but it's very clean and the perfect place to stay if you want to visit the Vatican and see the beautiful city of Rome.
- Diane (8/5): Near the Vatican - Ottaviano Augusto was in a very convenient location near the Vatican. Our room had a patio and was quite large. We would stay here again.
- Greg (8/5): Great Room / Great Location - This place was not at all what we expected, but that turns out to be a good thing! If you are looking for a full service hotel - this is not the place for you. This is a very nice apartment, situated in a really great neighborhood near the Vatican. The apartment is divided up into three rooms - we had the smallest room, an although it was a little short on space, it was very well taken care of, very clean, etc. The best news here is the location - it is a short walk to nearly everything, and the neighborhood is full of great sidewalk restaurants, shops, etc. But again, if you are looking for a western style hotel, this is not for you. If you are looking for a great little place to stay that is convenient to all the great sights, to every possible mode of public transportation (cabs, buses, underground railway, etc.), I would highly recommend this place, and quite frankly, I hope I have the chance to stay here again some day.
- CY Au (10/5): Everything was great - great place, owner was very nice and helpful, location was awesome, only few blocks from Vatican. price was good, wifi was fast, free breakfast, room was small but it was clean and cozy and nicely renovated. If I ever visit Rome again I won't bother looking at other places unless this place is booked. The only thing was that there was no room service on my first day for some reason, maybe the maid was out or something but it didn't really bother me as i wasn't out on any of the supplies. They can also hook you up with car service to the airport which I did, the driver was on time and I was satisfied.
- Sam (8/5): Very Convenient to Vatican - Very comfortable. Very satisfied.
- Wendy W. (10/5): Perfect location - The location is fantastic, very quick walk right to the Vatican. The service was wonderful. The only downside was that it was late July and our air conditioner was not doing the job that well. But, overall, i would definitely stay here again. The price was excellent.
- Hayley (10/5): Excellent location to the Vatican... - It was really an enjoyable experience to stay at Ottaviano. I stayed with my parents there for 3 days. The B& B staff were extremely kind people. Its an excellent location if you want to stay close to the Vatican..There are alot of eateries nearby as well as supermarkets. The Metro is also a short walk away. I would definitely recommend this place!!
- Meagan (8/5): Vacation stay - Very nice rooms. Breakfast was very easy to figure out. Great location as well as access to wifi. Overall great stay
- adele (10/5): Near to all Vatican sites - We arrived just after lunch to Mauro waiting to greet us and show us all the excellent facilities within the b&b. wifi was brilliant, use of fridge a blessing as temp soared to very hot whilst we were in rome. Room was a little small but Mauro had pre- warned us and it really wasn't an issue as we didn't spend a lot of time indoors. Breakfast was ok basic roman breakfast set us up fir a full day of walking.
So near to metro, tram and bus and a 3 minute walk to St. Peter's bad Vatican.
Would recommend to all my friends to spray here good value and a very pleasant stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): June 2014 - It's a B&B and the owner does not live on site, but he is very attentive to any needs. The room was everything it was advertised to be and very convenient to the Metro or bus. Parking and traffic are everything you should expect from downtown Rome...The B&B owner, Mauro, is very friendly and speaks great English. We highly recommend this B&B!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Vatican and Metro key location - This location is perfect for visiting the vatican and is still great to get to all the other locations in Rome because of its close proximity to the metro station. It is about 2 blocks away from the metro and the walk is nice, peaceful and safe. The room is decently furnish with my only complaint being the corner crevices that the housekeeper should be cleaning out. The bed is horrible and was difficult to sleep. If you are on a budget and need a safe place to stay, go for this one.
- T Nguyen (8/5): Close to Vatican City and subway station - The hotel is in a nice area with a short walking distance to Vatican City and subway station. There is a Chinese restaurant nearby and a McDonald not too far from it. The hotel is nice and clean. The bathroom and the shower however are a little bit tight.
- malinda63 (8/5): Minutes from Vatican City - Basic B&B, Warm Welcom - Great location - just 3 to 5 minutes from Vatican City, and 3 to 5 minutes from Ottaviano Metro. Great neighbourhood, plenty of eateries and shops nearby, good for shopping as well. Breakfast is just one croissant and cappuccino, not really what I would class as 'breakfast' - and to be claimed from a Cafe just outside. Wifi was erratic but rooms were very clean, comfortable and owners were very warm, pleasant and allowed for a very late 10pm check in without charging us more .. etc. Good value, great location but basic B&B
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just okay. - I chose this hotel mainly because the reviews were so positive ... truthfully, I'm a bit baffled as to why this hotel ranked so highly. This hotel was fine - the owner was kind (though never there so if you have any questions you're pretty much on your own), the location is excellent but the accommodations are pretty basic. Staying here is definitely a safe bet - clean, safe, good location. But I guess I sort of expected a tiny bit more for a hotel with such a high rating. It pretty much felt like a private room in a hostel ... without the warm, welcoming atmosphere given the owner's constant absence.
- Oanh (6/5): Very bad service - The breakfast is quite bad. There is no body there to ask question or to get more toilet paper. There is no supply of drinking water. The rooms and linen are not tidy up everyday. We stayed 3 days and the rooms got very dirty. We had to buy our own toilet paper
- Alex (10/5): Excellent in all aspects - This B&B is situated in a very convenient location about 5-10 min walk to the Vatican Doors. It is a very nice area with plenty of restaurants, stores and steps away from the Subway station. The room features a noise insulating window and faces the back of the street such that you hear absolutely nothing from there; peace at its finest. The owner, Mauro, is a super nice guy. Very careful with the property and with his guests' comfort. The way he operates the breakfast is through a voucher to a local, superb restaurant also steps away. All in all, an almost perfect experience. The only complain I have is that the wi-fi did not work most of the times, and when it did it was too slow. However, I didn't go to Rome to stay in a computer, and when I did have to use one, I used the laptop he provides in the hallway.
- Kay (6/5): short stay - Very close to Vatican and lots of eating places. Close to Metro and a nice area.
- Douglas C. (8/5): Very close to Vatican and Metro train station - Very nice and clean room, the room is small but has a very nice and clean bathroom. You have to share a refrigerator in the hallway outside the door with other rooms. Sometimes a little bit of noise in the hallway but nothing that will keep you awake. The bed was comfortable and the room had a nice television, however all the programming was in Italian except for MTV. It has a very good location to the Vatican and the Metro station. The breakfast is at a nice place across the road but only has rolls and coffee. I would give it a 5 rating if a few things were improved, such as clean the rooms everyday instead of every 2 or 3 days. Add an english channel to your programming. Maybe a larger breakfast to include an egg or something more substantial.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Vatacan city - Wonderful location, outstanding owner, great neighborhood
- Cassandra (10/5): I wish every place in Italy was like this - First of all when they say they are next to the Vatican, they REALLY are. There's shopping, food, more food, gelato, museums, St Peters right outside the door. We are two upper 20 somethings touring Italy so it was nice not to be monitored like we were on some of our other late nights coming in at other hotels. They aren't onsite so you call them about 30 minutes before you arrive and they emailed me upon booking with all info. The room was SO CLEAN had DEPENDABLE wifi and a HUGE terrace. It's right on a main street. It was the best shower and bathroom we had in all of Italy. "American standard accommodations" without a doubt. I would live here! It's just around the corner from a famous gelateria and a famous sandwich shop. The cafe that you have breakfast at is wonderful. Only two metro stops to the Spanish steps. Convenient to all. LOVED it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great little hidden gem, close to everything - Excellent location. Great value for the money. Not luxurious but perfect for a stay in Rome. Breakfast included by way of coupon for nearby cafe. Use of computer. Friendly owner.
- Sheryl (10/5): WOW! what a great location! - Cute little B&B (not a full service hotel with staff on site 24 hours) with only a couple rooms. Quaint, not fancy but very clean, but right beside The Vatican, St. Peter's, bus stops, & underground. Easy to bus or walk to the other tourist spots from here. Shops and restaurants all around. Would definitely recommend this place and stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Ottaviano Augusto, Rome - This apartment was absolutely beautiful. Newly renovated, clean, bright and so close to everything - Vatican City just a block away. Restaurants, shopping, the underground, everything within a stones throw. Enjoyed every mnute of our stay. If you could add tea/coffee facilities, something we aussies are always looking for!! Yes given the opportunity, I would stay again.
