- JoeyMatt (6/5): bare bones budget option - Its a property from the 70s and still retains the look and feel. Will start with the good, the hotel is located in the old town and is close to almost every point of interest. Very close to the metro and tram lines, commute around the city is a breeze from this place. Lot of options for food as well around, so you wont be starving at any time. Now the not so great, first of all the rooms are very small and has not much of room to move around. The AC hardly works and the room can get very stuffy! (we were in 112). The only option to breathe is to keep the window open, but that makes it extremely noisy! The bed is a miniature version twin bed, fits 2 with quite a bit of adjustment! The washroom too is a tight fit with the commode squeezed into a tight corner. Who ever designed the space did not use much sense and have applied rough wall texturing next to the already tight commode space! Both me and my wife got scratched a few times on the wall. The cleanliness is not too great as well. The commode is stained and the linen is no more white! Breakfast is vary basic, felt mostly out of compulsion! No bottled water or a kettle in the room. You have to step out of the room to get some from the common dispenser. No toiletries except the soap dispenser kept in the shower n basin. You'll keep asking them for tissues n soap refills!! Staff too are average, and a lil pushy. You ask them for any directions and before even you finish they would've picked up the phone to make a reservation for you somewhere or to call a cab for you! My advice, in case if you are allocated with a first floor room, ask for a change of room immediately. Theres a sheesha place right below and stays open really late into the night, with very noisy customers.
- ShvetaP (2/5): A must read to know it all! - I'm going to divide this review into 10 parts.. Comfort, Service, Cleanliness, Value for Money, Location, Breakfast, Bed, Necessary Facilities, Additional Facilities & Communication to Staff. (Half a point for each) The staff & service at the reception only is good. They are doing their best with their work. Location: good.. however earlier in my last trip in 2010 I thought the old town was cheaper but now I felt Taksim is cheaper in terms of food & alcohol. Plus the vibe in Taksim & around is super young. The old town takes a day to see, so may be dividing your stay between the two sides would be a better choice. This is at no fault of the hotel. They are at 10 mins walking from both the Blue & Green Line Station. Comfort: for me is a perfect bed after walking almost 15000 steps every day to see Istanbul. The bed was so small that husband & me found it difficult to sleep normally. Further, the quilt was so small that one of us took the quilt & the other took sheet of the quilt :( The bed is not so comfortable the size just aggravated the issue. Cleanliness: This is in the top three things I need in any hotel. I'm not asking for a OCD cleaning, but cleaning the room & bathroom floor with a mop or brush maybe alternate day is mandatory. This cannot be expected here, they use to only change the towels daily & sheets every alternate day. I even spoke to the reception & told them the job is not being done well. But still no improvement. Value for Money: This is decided on location, service & how is the room. I would say one out of three. So No. Breakfast: It's very limited & frankly not great maybe good. I have had Turkish Breakfast several times. And this is not even close. They do cakes, bread, salad, cheese, one egg kind, one or two beef kind & bacon with tea & coffee. If you are vegan or vegetarian this is going to be difficult. Even though we are meat eaters we ate breakfast everyday from outside with recommendations from Zomato. Further, when you are entering the breakfast area they write 'if you have a early morning flight, the hotel can arrange for one' We informed the hotel two days in advance that we are going for a one night trip to Cappadocia but no one offered this service & then the day before we flew I saw the sign & called the reception to request for it but they refused saying they don't do it. Then.. why the sign?? Necessary Facilities: They do not have a Kettle. They have this weird thing of hot & cold water dispensing machine near the lift. If you wanna have to have a small quick cup of coffee.. you gotta get outside in your PJs to get a glass of hot water! I understand NOT providing limited free water per day, Toiletries in dispensers (Handwash & Shampoo only), Iron & Tissue but Kettle why not? Most towel are worn out, we got good ones one day & not so good ones the other. The iron stand & iron is available near the lift for a charge of 2TL. Additional Facilities: Budget Hotel so didn't expect. Communication to Staff: It's a 50-50 some can & some can't. Thanks to Google Translate the rest 50 was a long typing conversation! Hope this hotel doesn't let down your experience in Istanbul.

- 131alis (6/5): Needs improvement - We just came back from our trip to Istanbul. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. First of all our room when we checked in was not ready. The system of ventilation was not effective, the room was smelling all the time. The breakfast buffet is nothing great about. Only the soup they offer is good. The coffee quality is something very bad. Also, there is only 1 elevator for 5 floors and hundreds of guests. Generally, we wouldn't choose this hotel again.

Rooms have a window but all other spaces are ugly and gloomy especially the bar and the restaurant. The breakfast is not good either. Rooms are okay but as usual not as good as you can see in the pictures. The hotel is surrounded by many mosques and you have to wake up at 5 am or 6 am because they make some noises. Also, the surrounding streets are almost always noisy, cars hoots, peoples walk in and out and... Also, you get disconnected from wifi now and then. Only the reception could speak English almost good enough.
- linascorza (4/5): Basic accommodation in nice area tram ride away from main sites - I stayed in hotel Buyuk Keban with a group tour Aug. 2018. I would not have booked the hotel given the mediocre rating. The location is OK (6-7 minute walk to the tram that takes you to most tourist attractions) but it is not walking distance to any of them except perhaps the Grand Bazar. Another plus for the location is that it is in a relatively nice residential neighborhood, close to a park. Everything else about this hotel sucks - the single budget room (only one available to me on this tour) was tiny. I could barely fit in the shower (and I am petite and not heavy). The towels and bedcover were ripped from use. I asked for a non smoking quiet room. The room had a "Do not smoke" sticker, but smelled of residual smoke. There was no noise from the street, but plenty from other hotel visitors from adjacent rooms. The breakfast, cleanliness and service leave a lot to be desired. There is no room service menu and no receipts are given when you order, so I felt I was overcharged every time I used the service or had anything in the restaurant. The phone did not work when I arrived, but the receptionist had it fixed as soon as I brought the problem to his attention. My room was not cleaned every day and on the occasions when it was cleaned, the cleaner was not thorough. The free wifi was not secure, so I opted not to use it. On the plus side - the bellboy was very good. When I left, he helped me get a cab and brought my bag to the nearest taxi stand. I would not stay in this hotel again and I do not recommend it.

- Nooshasl (4/5): Disappointed - I read the reviews before booking and I was like “wow, this hotel looks so good”. But it was a disaster because of its location. It’s so noisy. There is a mosque next to the hotel that wakes you up with “azan” every morning. Anyway The breakfast is ok. Staff are polite. Its clean. But unfortunately we didn’t have a good night sleep at all. I won’t go back there again! And don’t recommend it to anyone.

Also, the staff's english could improve a bit but that was not a great issue. An overall pleasant experience with clean rooms and in a lively area of Istanbul offering access on foot to many places.
- Verified traveler (8/5): 朝食はよかったです - 旅行最終日に空港への地下鉄に近め（と思った） ＆お値段との相談の上でこちらに1泊しました 周辺は観光客エリアとは異なりローカルの人混みで大変賑やかです 地下鉄Aksaray駅からは思っていたより距離を感じました フロントではトルコらしく他客の割り込みによって 後回しにされて待たされることがあるものの、 日本人に対しては日本語で挨拶してくれたりと 一応フレンドリーではあります 利用しませんでしたがジムもあるようで、 フロントに言えば鍵を開けてくれるそうです 各階エレベーターホールの所に ウォーターサーバが設置してあり 冷水・熱湯を自由に利用できます 有料マッサージチェアなどもありました 部屋はカードキー方式でまあ綺麗でしたが、 シャワーの天井がカビカビだったり 所々古さが目につきました またゴミ箱に前客のゴミが入ったままでした 朝シャワーで水栓タップをお湯MAXまで回しても ぬるいのしか出ませんでした またシャワーのガラス壁に隙間があって シャワーから上がると水漏れで洗面室の床が ビショビショになってしまいました WIFIが、いちいちホテルのFacebookページに つながるのが若干イライラしました

- Fearless669349 (8/5): Very good in all aspects - Very good location and good pricing. The personnel is eager to help (be sure to leave a tip). The rooms are very pleasant to stay in and clean. Not much of a view from my window but you get compensated as soon as you get to the street. The only disadvantage is that there are only two small elevators of max 3 persons, but don't worry. The personnel will help you get your luggage to your room in no time.

- afshins313 (2/5): Bad experience - -The air conditioning didn't work, the temp inside the room was about 26 Celsius and the humid was high , I couldn’t sleep at night because of the high temp. I had to keep the window open the whole night but road noise was annoying. -I could hear noise of road in the room even in late night and early morning , the road beside hotel are noisy. This was second reason that I couldn’t sleep. -The signal of wifi in the room was weak. -No one clean the room in four nights that I was there, they even didn’t empty the garbage bin. -The room refrigerator didn’t work, it was old and out of order. -Hotel staff don’t know English and it was a problem, they behave unfriendly too. -The hotel is on the slope and this slope is problem when you going back to hotel and are tired.

- Oluwagbemisola (8/5): i will Always stay in Buyuk Keban - I don't think I can stay in any hotel in Istanbul than Buyuk Keban, the metainance of the hotel when I was there in 2014 is still the same. The Receptionist and Concierge are always ready to help you. Neighbourhood is safe you can walk anytime at Night. The main reason why I liked Buyuk Keban is because of the Neatness and the Environment no odour like most hotel in Istanbul if is not 4 or 5 Star.

We arrived on an early morning flight, and although we were 6 hours earlier than check-in time they gave us the room we wanted and invited us to have breakfast. Rooms are small but adequate. The daily mopping of the room floor (uncarpeted) could have been better, otherwise the room was cleaned and towels changed daily. We enjoyed the salads and breads breakfast. Location is only 15 min walk from an easy Metro ride from the airport, and virtually on the tram route through the old town. We have used this hotel before, and would stay there again.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean, large room, hot breakfast, near the sites - Hotel Buyuk Keban was a very clean and modern hotel. The rooms were decent sized. The breakfast was decent offering an assortment of items including scrambled eggs and pancakes which is rare in Europe. The hotel is located within a 10-15 min walk to the bazaar and Metro that will bring you to/from the IST airport. The major mosques/palace are within a 30 min walk or 4 tram stops away (which is located at the bottom of the hill, maybe 5 mins). Overall the stay was enjoyable.
- zen (8/5): Good location for a hotel, very near Sultanamet. - Small rooms but well cleaned everyday. Some guests were a bit noisy during our stay and doors were keep shutting and opening every now and again till past midnight. I just wish people should observe silence after at least 10:30 pm. Most of occupants go out during the day to see many attractions so a bit courtesy is appreciated. Breakfast is also very well served, but I wish the staff would smile a bit and greet their customers. It Would be really nice if someone says "good morning" and will be replied back. It would be nice if the "No Smoking" policy will be respected, our room was near the exit stairs and it seems some occupants or staff goes to smoke there, the smell of the smoke comes to our room thru the door gap. I really like the location of the hotel,thou not really near the main tourist attractions but a walking distance to the tram, metro stations..many surrounding restaurants. Traffic, a bit chaotic thou, It seems there is no respect given to traffic lights, no enough parking. Noticed drivers just reversing anywhere and everywhere. Too much cigarette butts on the streets,would have been nice if trash can be used and well provided.. And if staff or customers smokes by the door, the main door should be closed to ensure that other people who are in the lobby specially the children will at least be protected. Overall, our stay was good..Istanbul is a very beautiful and vibrant city we hope to see it again sometime..

The hotel is 7 min walking to aksray train stop , and from there is 3 mintues to grand bazar station and 4 mintues.to sultan Ahmed area, hotel close to every things, only the Air conditions was not cold for the last 2days because they have Central AC and they turn it off because of the City ordinance as their staff said.
- AC (6/5): Decent Hotel, nothing special - The hotel room was clean and the cleaners were brilliant, although they didn't communicate in English well. The location of the hotel was decent, next door to a masjid and very close to the Sehzade mosque. There was a massage chair on every floor (cost 1TL for 4 mins) which was quite nice. The tram station was a 5 minute walk away and served all the main attractions of the old city. The hotel itself is very basic and the spa was closed the two times I wanted to use it so that was quite dissapointing, the reason given was that the guy who runs it wasn't there. Overall it served as a decent cheap hotel which was a good base to visit Istanbul from, but nothing special.

- Ahmed (8/5): great location and superior breakfast - it was really good and nice stay. the breakfast was great, the services and room cleanliness were awesome. the only things is the lifts, there were 2 small lifts and always one of them is not working and the other takes only 3 persons. there were always many people waiting the lifts or going by stairs sometimes because the capacity of the lifts is not compatible with the amount of people in the hotel.

- Sarah (8/5): - Hannan, the manager, was very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. Hotel rooms were nice and clean. Great breakfast. Shower was amazing, didn't want to get out of it. It was in a good location, 5 minute walk to a tram and train. Single girls: there is a lot of hooting, hollering, uncomfortable stares, and impolite words thrown at you in the nearby streets. Overall, we had a great stay.

- Neeta (6/5): Ideal for people not spending time in hotels - It was ok if you do not intend to spend time in your hotel, only for sleeping and washing. Bathroom was leaking, staff were ok. Pick up from airport was very bad as they did not have our names displayed - caught the name of the hotel and that's how we managed to arrive. Last day they had not charged us fully for the pick up from the airport and demanded money! Breakfast was so. It was clean, but not under the beds. Staff would demand tips. Location was 3 miles from the blue mosque. Once again ideal for those who do not wish to spend time in hotel. No iron provided in room, but a pay as you go can be found in hall way. No kettle, but glasses and tea and auger are provided in the room.

The phone in the room did not work, we could' receive calls from abroad which force us to make expensive call ourselves out side the hotel. Our family from abroad had to call us on our mobiles this cost us and them lots of money. Other times had to calls to the reception in order to talk to us.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect location, safe, wonderful staff - This was my first trip to Istanbul and I can honestly say that Hotel Buyuk Keban made it such a memorable trip. The hotel is located in a safe area which was the number one concern for me and my friends. As a group of 3 girls, safety was very important to us. The staff was super helpful. From the moment we got to the hotel, Hanan took the time to sit down with us and explain the map of the old city and places to see, visit, stay away, eat, etc. He was phenomenal. Very helpful, as was everyone at the hotel. Breakfast was included in our stay and each day they had the best breakfast. Fresh and so much variety. We were very close to the tramvay which is helpful if you want to get around the city. Housekeeping every morning made it so nice and welcoming to come back to the room after a full day of sightseeing and exploring the city. When I go back to Istanbul, I WILL DEFINITELY STAY at HOTEL BUYUK KEBAN!

Upon arrival, the room air conditioner was making a noise and before we even set our bags down the repairman was literally at our door and made it right. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. - Nicky (8/5): Clean, friendly hotel. - The hotel is a little way from the main tourist areas in sultanahmet, but is close to the tram and metro or you can walk it in about 25 mins. The hotel was very clean with a good breakfast and in a quiet and safe location. The rooms are a little small and for some reason they still had the heating on in April so the room was quite hot. We did ask them to turn it off which they eventually did at the end of the stay. Staff are otherwise friendly and helpful.

It did help us to know more about the city before we started our adventure. The hotel is easy to locate and reach, just 10 minutes off the main street. Getting on the tram you can go to all must-see sights within short periods.I'm delighted to find out the Metro station is close by, it takes us directly to the airport within 30 minutes---avoided all the traffic problems. I love the breakfast. For sure I will suggest the other travellers to stay here.

- Verified traveler (8/5): BUYUK KEBAN the best - What I love most about this hotel is the cleanest, I booked for single room and is very comfortable and the staffs were great but the only problem is only 1 or 2 that speaks English. The breakfast is turkish, I think they should do more of English breakfast. I will stay in Buyuk Keban the next I'm in Istanbul. I will recommend this hotel for anyone going to Istanbul and is few minutes work to the market for anyone into business.

The hotel is situated about 4 tram stops (easy to use) from major tourist attractions. The ONLY negative for this hotel was it's proximity to a mosque which broadcast call to prayer at about 4am every morning. This may be hard to avoid in a city full of mosques. It was still worth the visit and stay!

- Bobby (8/5): BUYUK KEBAN - We went to Istanbul for seven days, as a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children. We expected a family room but due to a pre booking were give a triple and a double room. However this suited us and on check in we were taken to our rooms, also helped with our luggage. Everyone at reception was extremely polite, and helpful, beyond their duty. Particularly Zainab, who went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. She also left anything she was doing to help us i.e directions, nice visiting place, pickup services etc. The hotel was very clean, beds made on arrival, very spacious and comfortable, especially the shower facilities were amazing. Breakfast is a lovely variety of salads, pancakes, biscuits, bread, yogurts. Not the usual English breakfast, but repetitive throughout the seven days but enough choice. For us the hotel was in a convenient setting, as we were within half an hour to the port, grand bazaar, blue mosque, taxi stand and tram (dolmus) stop. A gentleman at reception, sorry we dont know your name, ordered in pizza for us as we were very tired, this was not part of his duty but done as he was very polite. The view from room 210 was of a quite side street onlooking a main road, the view from room 205 was of a roof top and the back of a some flats.

The only down side was that I booked triple room I actually rang to make sure that they have 3 beds in the room they reassured me that they have 3 beds. When we arrived the room had 2 beds and sofa bed and they didn't change. Otherwise the staff were very friendly and helpful.

- WD5 traveller (8/5): Nice centrally placed hotel - Nice hotel ideally placed about 15mins from main Istanbul attractions. Breakfast good although a bit monotonous after a couple of days. Hotel staff very busy and seem to work long hours so they don't have much time for general chat. Hotel could benefit from a concierge service in this regard. Beware rooms close to lift shaft are very noisy; rooms on 6th floor next to lift power generator are extremely noisy! (You'll have difficulty sleeping through night as generator kicks in sporadically when lift is in use). Turkish bath available although expensive. Overall a nice, centrally placed hotel easy to access by tram.

Location very good-walking distance to Great Bazaar. 2-3 tram stopps to Blue Mosk, Hagia Sophia and Sultan's Palace.Breakfast SPECTACULAR!!! fruit, fresh basil (locals eat the whole plate of this) egss, cheeses, sausages, pancakes...superb even for European standard. Overall the hotel offers mixed bag of inconsistent service. If the air conditioner was quiet and work this would be 4-5 star.
- Ahmed (6/5): - The location is very near to Aksaray tram station i.e. 5-7mins walk, so most of the attractions on the Istanbul European side is very easy access by tram. Reaching airport through Aksaray metro station is easy too. Good service and friendly staffs. Dont expect too much for complimentary breakfast, but moderate. The only thing was the Air Conditioning which didn't work perfectly well, was very cold at night and during day time not that cold. But wasn't a major issue as at the beginning of June, temperature at night is around 15-17 degree C. So we turned the AC off and used natural cool breeze...

Would book again - Nice hotel in a good central location, not far from most tourist attractions like grand bazaar, blue mosque, hagia sofia...Tram station near Laleli University - Very convinient as you are able to reach most relevant location like Galata Tower easily . We spent one week in the hotel as a family with baby. Hotel has a ramp at entrance, very handy for stroller or even wheelchair. There is actually not much to complain about the accommodation during our stay. Room was a bit too small but in very good shape and cleaned up on a daily base. New bed sheets every second day. Very comprehensive breakfast buffet, we missed nothing. Fruits, cereals, sausages, cheese, bread, scones, toast, coffee, juice - all fresh, day by day. Only negative point was the less friendly staff at reception during check out.
- Freddy (8/5): Explore the more authentic Istanbul - If you don't want to be just another tourist full of stores and stuff around, this is the place for you. You still can ride a bus and be in the center of the touristic zone in 20min (including the walk to the bus stop and the time it actually takes you to reach Taksim). Or take a traimway to the Haya Sophia and other attractions in 10min. The bus stop and traimway are about 5 blocks from the hotel. Many places to buy water and simple things (at half the price than the touristic zones). The staff is very friendly and helpful (according to turkish standars, so keep that in mind). I know turkish people are not the most friendly of all, compared to western culture, but you can still find very friendly and nice people. Like the reservation lady at the hotel, she's a sweetheart, and my wife and me we loved her. Even the administrator was very helpful to us. It's clean, so that's one of the most important things. And I really enjoyed been in a neighborhood with more turkish ambient. The mesquite to the north of the hotel (3 blocks away) is so beautiful, even more to me than the other famous ones.
- Chris (6/5): Ok for just overnight! - I transferred after the conclusion of a group to - was impressed by front desk the day before to get a feel of the hotel - surprisingly it was in the vicinity so was familiar with the area from a previous trip in 2011. I had prepaid 4 days - starting on the 17th - then would transfer to the Taksim district Check-in went smoothly by knowledgable day staff (even after changing rooms - A/C issue) unpacked and explored the area. Returning early evening requested the night clerk to call at 7:30PM as I scheduled a guide to pick me up at 9:00PM for an evening tour of city. Fortunately I did doze off but awakened on my own, received Wake-Up call next morning! The bathroom was so small had to close the door to get to the toilet - fluctuating water pressure in the sink and only one set of towels were provided.
- Irene B. N. (8/5): Cozy, well located and fair service - The room was cleaned daily, but I my first night the toilet was really dirty. Someone had cut the sanitary tag and used the toilet. This was disgusting, otherwise for the rest of my 5 nights stay cleanliness was fine. Staff is polite and professional. Breakfast is sumptuous with good variety. The room is small enough to come back to and sleep and not to stay around and lounge. I was alone so it was big enough. I loved the fact that there was a blowdryer in the bathroom. The hotel staff provide a map of Istanbul and are really helpful in advising on touristic attraction and how to locate places. The hotel is location is a walking distance from Grand Bazaar, Basilica Cistern, Blue mosque, Hagia Basilica and this is really convenient. The tram is a throw stone away and their are cabs 20m away. When I wanted to use the gym, I was told that the man with a key was not there. That was disappointing because I had selected the hotel for its gym facilities. I would recommend this hotel to friends and business colleagues. Not ideal for a' lounging in hotel' holiday, though.
- Leandro (8/5): Great stay - This hotel has just been refurbished and the room is very nice (very nice bathroom). The staff is very helpful. The Wi-Fi in the hotel is very slow and you can only log in with one device at the time (e.g. either mobile or laptop). Breakfast is included in the price, but for the rest you need to pay (like the swimming pool and sauna).

- Verified traveler (4/5): Very bad reception, reasonably close to tram - We had booked a standard double bed for 3 nights at this hotel. Reception: The only person at the reception who could speak a bit of english was so unfriendly. Not courteous at all. Wouldn't bother offering help when you are looking for city tours, advice etc..He would direct us to a bunch of leaflets and say that is it. He makes a perfect example for how a hotel receptionist shouldn't be. He wouldn't even bother making an eye contact when speaking to us, kept staring at his computer monitor. We confirmed from the reception over phone if we could print our Hagia Sophia online entry tickets, they said yes and we went down after booking the ticket. We were told that the printer is broken and he couldn't do anything about it. He dint even bother telling us that there is an internet cafe near by and we could print from there. He wasn't even feeling apologetic for this. Hotel Facilities: It is mentioned that the hotel has spa, table tennis & pool tables. None of it was open when wanted to use it well before 8pm. We had to pay to use spa facilities like sauna and jacuzzi as well. Wrong room : In spite of confirming twice with the hotel prior to our arrival(which was a bit late in the evening) we were given a twin room. Had to go back to the reception and ask for a change which was a bit inconvenient.

- Ian (8/5): 2 night stayover November 2012 - We enjoyed our two nights in the hotel. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is well located for walking visits to the main attractions like the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, various mosques and the Grand Bazaar - all within easy walking distances. We have already recommended it to family members who will be travelling in the near future. We used the airport shuttle for transport to and from the hotel and airport.

- Chris (10/5): Great Place! - This was my first time in Istanbul (along with my mother) from the United States. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I love how they have a breakfast buffet included with the stay. I was surprised at the amenities they have (although I did not have a chance to use all of them). Plus this is within walking distance of some of Istanbul's highlights, such as the Grand Bazaar. And there are taxis readily available in the vicinity. I highly recommend this place.
