- Amanda (10/5): Great place, in the best location. - Centrally located hotel, 2 minutes walk from the Taj Mahal gate. Friendly owner!
- stephen (4/5): Don't stay here. - This place is dusgusting, hot water, smelly bathrooms, mosquitos, dirty and worn sheets n towels... stained.
Staff turn A/C off externally, and power to rooms so if phone on charge... it don't charge.
Restaurant staff don't understand toast n jam on menu, and charge extra for butter.
My rooms cost me £24 per night 2 rooms single occupancy, so £96 advertised at £12 pernight some places... not worth £12
"Very close to Taj Mahal" was the only positive thing can be said.
- Himanshu (8/5): - 2 min walk to Taj. Facility was good. Food in Cafeteria can be improvised.
- abhinay (10/5): - Close to West gate and decent accommodation for a night or couple of nights
- Uwe Michael (6/5): - This is a simple, inexpensive and clean hotel, in walking distance from the Taj Mahal. My room was good but the bathroom needed improvement. The restaurant in the courtyard serves good food.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable stay.. Value for money.. Very near to the Taj..
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was very kind and helpful. The restaurant was good. Right down the street was one of the entrances to the Taj Mahal. My bathroom was unsatisfactory
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great position, staff willing to make our stay and experience excellent.
- Tony (8/5): review - Check in was quick and easy with friendly staff, asked to move room which hotel did without any issues due to tap unable to stop leaking which caused bathroom to have water all over floor bucket put under tap overflowing
Room noisy due to people in adjacent room
Breakfast was good with good service
- Ta Wei (6/5): - 飯店離泰姬瑪哈陵西入口不行1分鐘。除此之外沒其他特別的優點。
- Fjmilo (6/5): - Staff very friendly and welcoming however the room is a lot more basic than it appears in the photos. Room was cold at night and shower is very basic. Room locks with a bolt on the inside and you can padlock it when you go out. Despite this, as the hotel is down a pedestrian only street and they secure the front doors during the night we felt very safe. Overall fine for 1 night but would not stay longer.
Dinner in the hotel restaurant was very tasty and cheap. WiFi was good.
Location is fantastic, 3 minute walk to the Taj Mahal. Perfect if you want to catch sunrise at the Taj.
- Conrad (8/5): So convenient! - Unbeatable location and a great deal. Staff are friendly, making this a great choice for backpackers travelling through Agra.
- Raul lisandro (2/5): Timo - Me cobraron por un día q no use y después me devolvieron, pero claro no devuelven entero , se quedan con una parte.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really good location, just a few meters away from the West Gate entrance of the Taj Mahal. The staff were very friendly, especially the owner. The food that we ate there was good and the price of the stay was really very good.
The bad things were that the rooms are small so we had nowhere to put our bags, they had to be kept on the floor. There was no daily cleaning and we got A LOT of bugs in our room. Luckily we killed them with bug spray but because we didn’t have cleaners it meant they just mounted up on the floor. It didn’t affect our stay too much and overall I would recommend this hotel!
- nisim (10/5): - A five-minute walk from the Taj Mahal
Convenient to exit to Red Fort
On-site restaurant
- Verified traveler (8/5): - タージマハールの参道にあり
自分の庭みたいにタージマハール
をあちこちから眺めて
身近に感じられる
- Mia (8/5): - Good location and wifi. Restaurant was good and price is reasonable. I recommend this for anybody who wants to rest and visit Taj Mahal in early morning for less crowd.
- Dominique (6/5): Hotel well located and clean, no A/C - The place was fine, clean and well located. There was no air conditioning, but I must admit I haven't checked that before booking, so it was very hot in the room and we couldn't sleep well. We couldn't find how to get hot water in the shower but since it was so hot in the room, we didn't mind too much. Overall it was ok with the price we paid.
- Pernille Vestergaard (6/5): Seng ved Taj Mahal - Perfekt som en billig seng til rejsende der ønsker at se Taj Mahal i solopgang, da det ligger meget tæt på
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice clean budget hotel - Nice budget hotel within a walking distance to Taj, would recommend.
- Yana (10/5): Nice Hotel walking distance to Taj Mahal. - We have a nice experience staying in Hotel Sidharta. The staff are helpful. The room is OK. It just a walking distance to Taj Mahal.
If you’re thinking about going to Taj Mahal in the early morning (It’s open at 6AM) to avoid the crowd ( i.e for taking picture), this hotel is suitable for you.
The cons :
Since it is very close to Taj Mahal, as typical for all the hotels in this area, for the security reason, cars and any other vehicles cannot access to the front of the hotel (there are no parking area). Tuk tuk (auto rickshaw) park near the guard post and it just a very short walk from there to the hotel.
- Ian (8/5): Good resting place before a dawn visit to the Taj' - This friendly hotel is a couple of minutes walk to the western gate of the 'Taj. Ideal resting place ahead of a dawn visit... It's a basic, serviceable good value place I have used a couple of times. Food is acceptable and - again - great value. The rooms we had were AC chilled and the beds comfy. Wifi works. The surrounding area is as per the rest of Agra. IE: Earthy and chaotic.
- V (8/5): Great location and working hot water - Easy check in process (arrive 1.5h before the official check in time).
Compared to the average hotels in India, this one is a great find. The surroundings are safe as it is right next to the Taj Mahal.
The staff was very friendly and polite.
- Nicole (6/5): - This place is perfect for one night if you want to be very close to entry to the Taj Mahal. The photos looked great but it isn't as clean as we expected. The sheets and blanket were stained. But it was what we needed for one quick night. I would pack my sleeping bag insert if I stayed here again.
- Jeffrey (6/5): Excellent location but better value elsewhere - Great location right outside the west gate of the Taj but not the cleanest. There are many monkeys in the neighborhood. They could get aggressive but the hotel could do a better job of cleaning the monkey excrement.
The Taj Ganj neighborhood has many restaurants but none of them great. For better food, you need to hire a driver to get to a different part of town.
- John-Charles L (10/5): Area area and location at an affordable price - A very nice inexpensive hotel with the best location if you want to visit the Taj Mahal for sunrise. The people are friendly, the garden cafe has decent food and is very layer back.
- Logan (6/5): Good Budget hotel right next to the west gate - This place is really only for the location and close proximity to the west gate of Taj Mahal .
Hotel room was clean and spacious and was all you need if you are out exploring most of the time , the wifi was turned off alot and had to ask for them to turn on , and also had to ask to turn on the hot water but was easily fixed once asked ,this was pretty standard i found in the whole of India and no big drama at all ....
All in all this place is great if your cool with Budget , like real budget !! and there to visit Taj Mahal and explore most of the day..Friendly staff and prompt check in and out ..
Would recommend if in Agra for Taj Mahal and Red Fort and check out Sadar Bazaar, Awesome market to get lost in for hours !!
- Oded (10/5): my experience - 1. excellent location. a few minutes walk from taj west gate which makes it very convinient to be there at sun rize
2. local market is a few meters away. so no problem with food or shopping
3. very friendly staff. espesialy Chandra
- Sheila (8/5): Convenient, basic but OK - I would sum this hotel up as adequate, cheap and cheerful, very basic but clean and as two older females traveling alone we felt safe here. Shower didn't work but we were only here for one night so that really wasn't too much of a problem. We only came to Agra to see the Taj Mahal and the location of this hotel is perfect for that. Staff were helpful when asked. Food was good and the little garden nice enough. We couldn't use the terrace because of the monkeys but that is not the fault of the hotel. All in all, we arrived late in the evening and left early the next day to see the Taj at sunrise, back for breakfast and then off again and this hotel was perfect for that.
- Verified traveler (6/5): No roof terrace - The main selling point was roof terrace, which was not open (maybe never was?).
Room had no hot water. Bedsheets had holes. Close to Taj Majal. Security was good as they lock main gates at night.
- Sharon (6/5): - Hotel & restaurant good value, well located to the Taj Mahal and ticket office. Beware of monkeys. It is dirty outside the hotel. Hotel owners must exert influence on their neighbours to keep the area adjacent to the hotel clean.
- Alison (6/5): Good location - Shower was hot and strong! Room very very basic, no opening windows, awful heavy picnic rug style ill fitting blankets. Very good location - 3 minutes walk from west gate.
- Jan (4/5): Hotel was close to the Taj Mahal gates. - Staff here looked rather 'surly' as you enter. Lots of men hanging around. You are not sure who are staff. No smiles at all. Perhaps this reflects the fact that I am a lone female traveller - generally no respect shown....unless you are buying something of course!
Smiles cost you nothing and would make passing tourists come in to eat.
I did not feel that comfortable here. The hotel room was generally grubby, with lots of mosquitoes. It lacks a woman's touch and attention to detail.
I did speak to the manager on leaving. A very pleasant man - with a great smile - who was very receptive to my criticism.. .
The manager wondered why people only stayed one night. but there is not much else to do after you have seen the Taj and Fort. The immediate environment of the Taj is in great need of 'up-grading' They need to cover all drains and tarmac the roads and lanes - be a big improvement.
- Alexander (2/5): Poor - The hotel room was very bad with smell of Toilet everywhere. when we arrived Our restrooms were not cleaned and we had to request them to clean it. Though we booked an AC room, we did not get one and the amenities mentioned on their website were not provided either. Please stay elsewhere!
- sanj (2/5): Awful - Take them off your book.wat a dump.a real rotten place
- JT (8/5): Walking distance to the Taj Mahal - We spent 2 nights at Hotel Sidhartha, while in Agra. The location is great and you can walk to the Taj Mahal. As well there is a very lively bazaar just south of the hotel. It is not a 3 star hotel but room was clean and the facilities worked great, generally. Had a little trouble with the air conditioner the second night but nothing out of the ordinary.
The restaurant is nothing to write home about but the food is good and has a selection of western and India meals.
For the price we paid I was really happy with what we got. I would definitely recommend it for those who are just making a pit stop in Agra before heading elsewhere.
June 2015
- Himanshu (4/5): Only Positive _ hotel near Taj Mahal - Basic rooms, stained bed sheets, unfriendly staff. Nothing positive to write about my stay, however the Taj Mahal is only few meters away from the hotel and can also be seen from the hotel's terrace. Expensive for the services it offers.
- Mark (10/5): Great Location, Great Pool, Great place to Stay - If you're looking for a place to stay in Mamallipuram, this is it. It's centrally located close to all the major attractions (a 10-15 minute walk to most of them) and to a variety of good restaurants and loads of shops--though you'll likely grow weary of the constant requests for your business. Because of this, the Sea Breeze is a great place. It's secluded, quiet, has an amazingly nice and immaculately clean pool, a beach front to go splash in the waves of the Bay of Bengal, and a solid restaurant for dinner that can even find you a cold beer. The breakfast in the morning will appeal to both Indian and Western tastes, and the coffee, though not great, is solid enough to get an American through the day.
On our stay, there was a mix-up between our booking agency (Hotels.com) and the hotel that did cause some hassle, but the staff there handled it very professionally and courteously... I was impressed.
- Greg (8/5): Great location good food friendly staff - A great place to stay. I visited Taj Mahal twice morning and evening. Only 300 m to West Gate.
Dissapointed rooftop garden was closed not sure why, maybe monkeys causing problems.
- Stephen (8/5): Close to West Gate Taj Mahal - A great location for the Taj Mahal
- anirudh (8/5): feel like home - nice
- Shibdas (8/5): Enjoyable stay - Less than a minute's walk to Taj Mahal.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Close to Taj Mahal but that's it! - Great location but that was it for us - not clean sheets and bathroom and made us want to leave ASAP
- Nikolaj (8/5): Average hotel, 2 min walk from Taj Mahal - Wifi was on and off, nice and cheap restaurant on location!
- tae (8/5): Best location, clean rooms, good priced restaurant - You are probably booking this hotel because it is recommended by some guide book. The location cannot be better to explore the Taj Mahal. We woke up at 5:45 AM and at 5:48 AM we were at the west gate of Taj Mahal. That's how close it is to the gate. The restaurant serves decent food, with very reasonable price. We ate breakfast 2 times, it wasn't the best taste but fair. The room are clean, ac was working full blast. The room are spacious, which makes perfect for backpackers. Very good value for money.
- Arvind (6/5): Close to western gate of Taj Mahal - When I reached Agra station all the agents were talking all negative about Sidhartha hotel and were insisting to go to other hotel which the were suggesting but I took a chance and went to Sidhartha and found everything the agents were saying was false as they don't get any commission from this hotel. So just go and enjoy the stay as it's worth what they charge.
- Michael (8/5): great location but pretty run down - This place is amazingly close to the Taj Mahal and the staff were super nice and welcoming. It's a little run down, but honestly for the price and location you are getting a smoking good deal. Place felt pretty secure also which is important. Enjoy!
- Verified traveler (8/5): great budget option right next to the Taj - as close as it gets to the Taj entrance. staff was really helpful. room was clean. only issue was no hot water.
- Lloyd (10/5): - Get exactly what you pay for. A basic room that is located only 350m from the main gate into the Taj Mahal. Beds aren't the most comfortable however this place is perfect for staying for 1 or 2 nights whilst in Agra to see the Taj. Views of the Taj are available on the roof top.
- baldwinal83@gmail.com (4/5): Very basic - don't expect the Ritz! - This hotel is really very basic in every way. The shower and toilet was fairly dingey and grimey, and the shower itself was not great - offen no hot water. The beds were the worst feature for me - pillows that were basically a slab of foam, minimal linen which all had a dusty, chaky feel to it. The restaurant was not bad at all - good value and food was perfectly edible. Overall if you're looking for somewhere cheap for a night and don't mind roughing it a bit, then this place is fine. But I would not recommend a long stay. It is cheap, but when you get there, you quickly realise why.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Dirty room - I don't care about all of the ammendaties or how nice it is to have a hotel closely situated to the Taj. Just have a clean room. It's so easy to have cleaning staff make sure there is clean sheets or wash the smudged mosquito guts off the wall. I think this is one hotel that is relying of travel book recommendations to bring in the next customer.
- Eldon (6/5): hotel sidhartha stay - elec. plugs were ruined; front desk did not speak English when I complained;
purified water was not supplied;
warm water was nice;
food was cheap; service was good
- debby and ian (8/5): next to Taj - just stayed here as it was close to west gate at the Taj Mahal sowe could get there for sunrise . Its a budget hotel and we had a pleasant stay
- Ozzy couple (8/5): Excellent hotel with great location - We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel
- sep412 (10/5): Can't get any better for the price - For the price and location, I think this is a really excellent hotel. I don't know what other reviewers were talking about in regards to run-down rooms, etc. I thought my room was quite nice. Maybe I got one of the newer rooms. The bed was extremely comfortable. The room was larger than I expected, with a mini-fridge, a nice TV, and several lounge chairs. The shower water wasn't always as hot as I'd have liked, but for a budget hotel, I don't really mind that. I believe I talked to the manager when I first arrived, who immediately provided me with towels, soap, and toilet paper (things that I didn't always get in other Indian hotels...). He was very friendly and polite. The rooms are situated around a kind of garden/restaurant, which is lovely for sitting and sipping tea at night. No WiFi in the rooms, but you can use it in the restaurant or lobby. Best of all, LOCATION! Hotel Sidhartha is literally a minute's walk away from the Taj Mahal. Overall, for the cheap price, I'd say that you probably can't do much better.
- Verified traveler (6/5): At Hotel Sidhartha - Booked two nights because close to Taj with rooftop view as advertised. Rooms were adequate and thankfully AC working because terribly hot and humid during our stay. Food as restaurant good, particularly vegie noodles, and staff very accommodating. One staff member, Chandra, was most helpful in driving us short distances and finding cars for longer distances as well as other information about the area.
- hurry_sh (6/5): Very basic hotel, great location though - The only good thing about this hotel is its location, just a stone's throw away from the Taj. Other than that, the room and the facilities were very basic. To the extent that we had to ask the hotel staff for bed sheets explicitly. Overall, not a bad place, but can definitely improve a few things.
- Dane (6/5): Good location, very basic for price. - I was only in Agra for one night so I booked this as a basic option. And it was. Great location for an early visit to the Taj but room wasn't particularly clean. Came with no blanket and was advertised as having hot water available, which it didn't. Overall it was fine for one night but there are probably much cheaper basic rooms available elsewhere.
- Ralph (10/5): -
Nice courtyard with basic restaurant.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Just if you are on a very tight budget - The good thing about this hotel is the price. Other than that is very run down.
- K Parkin (10/5): Unbelievable location - Perfectly acceptable Indian mid to lower range hotel. But only twenty metres from the Taj Mahal ! I assumed it could not possibly be where it is for the price - I was happily proved wrong. And quiet - a bonus in this area. I have travelled a lot in India so knew what to expect in non 5 star hotels - perhaps if it is your first time you might be a little surprised at the basic level of some of the services but their staff are friendly and food reasonable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Deal - This hotel is very nicely priced, was very clean and comfortable, and was about a 5 minute walk from the West Gate of the Taj Mahal. Recommended.
- Thomas (6/5): Good location - Basic accommodations - The hotel service and location are excellent, but the accommodations are very basic. Fairly clean & the food is average.
- Clive (6/5): Basic but Ok & very close to Taj Mahal - Hotel Sidhartha is a basic budget hotel & delivers what you might expect from a budget hotel in India. Taxi driver at Agra railway station knew where it was. It is really only 100 yards from the Taj Mahal entrance. Room was basic but clean, TV had no English language channels, Air conditionning did not work, shower did not work and no running hot water. When we told reception of the problem they produced a pre-prepared laminated A4 sheet which read "There is no hot water in your room. Ask at reception and buckets of hot water will be delivered to your room". That is exactly what ahppened. Doesn't sound great but it was actually Ok. I think my wife quite liked it. The staff were great, friendly and as helpful as they could be. It's fine for an overnight before/after doing the Taj Mahal but you probably wouldn't want to spend a week there.
- Dan (6/5): Basic hotel, reasonably clean, good location - This place was a 2 minute walk from the Taj Mahal, which was nice when you were trying to get there at dawn. The rooms were very basic, but clean (by India standards). The shower was barely functioning and there was no hot water, so I ended up bathing with a bucket of cold water - which was less than ideal. Otherwise, it was fine. The restaurant is decent, and its within a short walking distance of a number of other places with Taj view rooftop restaurants. All in all, for the price, and the location, it is a great deal.
- Greg (6/5): Basic, and what you should expect for the price - The proprietor couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant - he's a very engaging guy. The room could've been cleaner, though, and it was also somewhat run down. For the money it's probably what you'd expect, although from the reviews I read I thought it would've been nicer.
- FreoRoamers (4/5): Location, location, location ... - You cannot beat the location for its proximity to the West Gate of the Taj Mahal - less than a minute's walk. The staff were very friendly and helpful; we were consistently greeted with a smile from each and every one of the. Although there was no running hot water in our room, buckets of hot water were delivered promptly on request. Unfortunately, the roof terrace restaurant was not open due to monkeys. Overall, however, considering the cost of the room, this hotel offers good value for money, for a brief stay to see the Taj.
- Verified traveler (4/5): A Shabby Experience - There is no hot water: after two requests, the staff brought a bucket of hot water to the room. The rooms on the ground level are filled with mosquitos: guests have to spray the rooms with bug spray themselves. There is no wifi. The rooftop garden/restaurant has been abandoned. It's in a great location near the Taj, but that's all that it has going for it.
- Shayne (8/5): Decent; near Taj Mahal - This hotel is definitely a one and a half star kind of deal, but it was very clean, the staff was helpful, and the hotel was a stone's throw from the Taj Mahal. Again, pretty basic, but acceptable by any standard except for those accustomed to five-star digs.
- s.a. (8/5): Hotel Sidharth in AGRA - Found the hotel to be fine for the tariff they charge. It is spartan and functional. Best if you wish to concentrate on the TAJ MAHAL.
- Gerard (8/5): Happy to go back - Hotel staff were very helpful. The taxi driver had tried to take me to another hotel suggesting that the location and quality of the hotel was poor. On arrival the staff couldn't have been more helpful in assisting with travel suggestions.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Review on Hotel Sidhartha, Near Taj, Agra - Already given above
