- tarrenk2025 (10/5): The best hidden gem in Florence! - This place is a hidden gem!!! It’s quiet, the rooms are GORGEOUS, the palazzo is STUNNING, Daniella is the sweetest and most adorable human, the staff is attentive and friendly, the snacks and common rooms are beautiful. I could go on for the whole day about what a joy it was to stay here. Its location is perfect for walking to all the main tourist sites. Florence is small, so walking is easy, but this is in the center of it all. The breakfast is soooo good, and there are tons of super cute restaurants on the same street. The laundry service was quick and reasonably priced. We spent 2 weeks in Italy in several towns, and this was by far our favorite room. We stayed in the deluxe suite and it was just incredible. It’s great for romantic couples, and has space for families too.

- Carolyn (10/5): Stay in your own palace! - If you’re going to an ancient, romantic city like Florence, this is just the place to stay to keep the vibe. I can’t begin to describe the gloriously palatial decor—gilded mirrors, crystal chandeliers, ceilings covered with hand-painted frescoes, a grand book room and a music room with velvet couches and classical CDs. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with modern amenities like cappuccino maker, hot water pot, mini fridge and cool modern shower. We could open our window and see the Duomo! Wonderful, responsive snd helpful staff and great location close to everything. One of our must-haves was free breakfast. They give you daily meal vouchers for the most charming restaurant I’ve ever seen half a block up the road with great, filling options. If you like new and modern, don’t stay here. Also, if you have mobility issues, you should know the elevator only goes to the main (lobby) level and suitcases will need to be carried up some steep stairs. Our stone floor was a little rustic too, but it added to the charm. The other slight negative was that there is a bar or two on the street below which can get a little noisy for a few hours at night. Bring earplugs and you’ll be fine. Overall, I can’t say enough good things about this gorgeous hotel!

Daniella is the greatest hostess a person could ever have. The breakfast is beyond compare!!! It was amazing to stay in a Palace that had frescos on the ceiling above your bed. The manager, Dario, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We can’t wait to go back!

- psyclin (10/5): Grand Home, Gracious Hostess, Skimpy Decor - We felt privileged to stay in this private palazzo in a great location in Florence. The owner, Daniela, is very warm and outgoing and makes everyone feel personally welcome. I'd love to say only great things about the place, but I think they are coasting a bit on her charm and a grand house. Our room was huge but the furnishings were cheap, white, and tacky--I wouldn't be surprised it it was all from Ikea. There wasn't a rug, and there were extension cords spread across one side of the room, easy to trip over. With the prices one has to pay in Florence now, a significant upgrade in furnishings would be appropriate. The breakfasts were elaborate and Daniela is present each day for them, but the amount of sweets served at breakfast was excessive. We'd be happy to stay there again, but would appreciate furnishings that match the grand building.

Our room was very beautiful and spacious. Daniela is the grandmother everyone wishes they had. She greats you every morning and tells you the origin of that morning’s breakfast. Her staff is so accommodating. I suggest you talk to Dario. He gave us great recommendations and directions.

Old world charm with beautiful art in the main rooms and in some of the bedrooms. The hostess/owner, Daniela, treats you like family from the moment she first lays eyes on you and is so warm and inviting that it’s impossible not to love her back! All of the staff are warm and friendly. The breakfasts, my God, the breakfasts are fantastic! It’s a traditional, leisurely breakfast of many courses where no two days are the same, but the food is always next level fantastic! My husband is Celic and Daniela went above and beyond to make sure he had a wide variety of gluten free options to choose from. We were guests for 3 nights in total and when it came time to leave we felt sad to do so. If we ever return to Florence, we will definitely stay here again.

Its hostess, the remarkable Daniela is the living proof of a glorious Florence, full of art, culture, generosity and prosperity. Our visit to the Palazzo was a flashback to the renaissance (the walls and ceilings are covered with unparalleled paintings and fresco) and it was exquisite. The rooms are palace quarters (by definition) clean and perfect. The breakfast is a daily surprise, plenty, pure and traditional, served where the original owners used to have it. The owner complements the stunning experience with classical music in all the common areas. Our Florence will always be inextricably linked with Palazzo Tolomei! - foodiefaadie (10/5): Amazing stay in amazing Florence - My husband and I stayed at the Palazzo Tolomei for three nights at the end of September 2023. It was a truly exceptional experience. Signora Agnelli - Daniela, and her staff are the most warm and welcoming hosts I’ve ever met. They made restaurant reservations for us as a matter of course. And when getting a taxi proved impossible, Daniela offered to have one of her staff walk us and our bags to the car rental! The Palazzo is gorgeous. It is in a great location, walking distance to everything and has an elevator. Our room was huge, frescoes on the ceiling, seating area with sofa and easy chairs, a welcoming bottle of sparkling wine, biscotti and candy. Very comfortable bed, great A/C. Great rain shower in a roomy bathroom. Breakfast is amazing. Do not miss it! Juice, made to order coffee, yogurt, granola, croissants, various rolls, focaccia, cheese and salamis, hot freshly prepared eggs, special Florentino cakes and pastries!! While the number of “courses” is constant, the items and dishes change every day. As I said before, do not miss it! We had an amazing stay and would whole heartedly recommend it.

Step back in time and enjoy the grandeur of this incredible Palazzo, sleeping under frescoes from the 16th century. Daniella the owner and her staff make you feel like family, warmly welcoming you and helping you plan everything from dinners to drivers to in-room massages. The location is central to everything - steps from all of the cities top attractions. And the BREAKFAST- truly an experience. This was the best breakfast of my life! The flavors and the variety were bar none - sweet and salty and included in your room package. Overall, I could not recommend more highly. This was a splurge for us and glad it was one that we chose to make!

The location is very convenient, right in center of the tourist attractions but still away from the chaos of tourists. The breakfast! What an experience! Daniela was amazing in making sure we had the best breakfast experience ever! She even packed us a breakfast bag for the check out day since we had an early morning train. I would definitely recommend staying here. This place is a hidden gem in Florence!

The location is amazing (5 min by foot to the Duomo). When you enter the place, you feel like a queen and a king. The decor is authentic and beautiful frescoes are ornating the ceiling of the room. The furniture and the decoration are tasty and historical for most of them. The big plus is the super warm welcoming by the owner of the place : Daniella ! She is an Amazing person full of energy and offering perfect breakfasts. We enjoyed different types of florentine food. All is tasty, classy with Vivaldi music. We enjoyed every moment and our discussion with Daniella who also booked some typical trattoria for us at night. This place is highly recommended for honeymooners or couples like us who wanted to spend a few nights on Firenze.

All the staff is very friendly, and especially Daniela is an amazing host. Breakfast is awesome, with a huge variety of both sweet and savoury dishes, all from high quality ingredients. Location could not be better, a short walk away from all the main sights, especially Museo dell'Accademia and Cappelle Medicee.

Historic building so some of the things you take for granted in a large modern hotel are modified or not available. But it is a beautiful building and the rooms are great. Ms Daniella is a great hostess and willing to share her passion for all Italian: art, music, cuisine, etc. She and all her staff are very amiable and helpful. Breakfast was also a gourmet treat, from pizza to local fruits and very old Tuscan recipes. The place is a 5-minute stroll to Il Duomo plaza and an 18-minute taxi ride from the airport.

The place is a museum in itself with statues, frescos, and an overall feeling of "the renaissance" everywhere you turn. ( The famous painter and artist Rafael actually stayed here back in the 1400's). It's location is in a great neighborhood with a supermarket close by, 100 yards from the Medici Riccardi Palace museum and the San Lorenzo church and square, as well as a short walk to the train station, which was helpful. Daniella, our host and her staff were wonderful. Very kind, genuine,and very helpful with advice and booking of anything we needed. Be sure to go to her breakfast, with outstanding local food set in a beautifully decorated room which truly makes you feel as if you stepped back in time. Thank You very much Daniella for treating my wife and I like part of your family. Arriverderci e' Ci Vediamo un Altra Volta!!

- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice historical place to stay! - This is a very cute, historical place to stay. The owner is very nice and has an artistic taste in decor. We enjoyed our stay here, and felt very welcomed. The staff is very accommodating and they wanted to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed during our stay. They even made our room up special for us, for our anniversary, which was very nice. This place is quite far from many of the main attractions, so much walking is required. We only were able to enjoy the breakfast on one day, as most of the tours we had booked were early in the morning. It was disappointing that we had to miss the breakfast, and It would have been nice if they had offered to pack us a small breakfast to go- maybe some croissants or something small...Just a suggestion. Maybe they would have if we had asked. Also, if you are booking this hotel on Expedia, just know that the pics of the rooms are not exactly the room you might have. I was disappointed at first because I paid extra to get the "upgraded" Deluxe room, which the pictures show having a canopy bed and/or painted murals on the ceiling, but our room was completely different, and did not have a canopy bed. And it had a painted wood ceiling. It was still nice, with lovely decor, but I am not sure we received the upgraded room we had paid extra for. Overall, it was a nice stay.

We were lucky enough to stay in a self contained apartment with an outdoor terrace and great views of Florentine rooftops. Daniela and all her team were so delightfully passionate about the Palazzo and ensuring guests had everything they needed. Stylishly furnished and decorated with care. Stay for the Sunday morning breakfast, we couldn't possibly sample everything but what we did was delicious, in comparison the breakfast at a cafe around the corner was disappointing. Good recommendations for sightseeing and eating, such a beautiful place to stay. We will certainly be returning!

My fiancé (who is Italian) & myself decided to take a drive to Florence on a whim to celebrate our anniversary & I found Palazzo Tolomei available that day for a very reasonable price. Normally I research every hotel very carefully before booking because I have worked in the hospitality industry & my standards are high but for some reason I just saw Palazzo Tolomei & just hit 'book room'. BEST DECISION EVER! The location is in the city center & close to everything. We phoned the staff about 10 minutes before we arrived & our car was picked up & parked in the garage promptly. When we went inside we were awe struck by the authenticity & historical beauty of the Palazzo! Daniela, the owner, & Irina greeted us warmly & gave us a tour of the property & common areas. We mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary & were treated to an amazing room & a complimentary bottle of champagne to celebrate. We asked for dinner reservations & we came down to get them only to find that Daniela had so graciously made us a reservation at a quaint & delicious place down the street! When we sat down the server brought over another round of champagne courtesy of Palazzo Tolomei! I can't say enough wonderful things about the Palazzo & their staff! Their attention to details & the care they show their guest is impeccable! I look forward to staying with me again in October with my whole family!

- angela (10/5): Period hotel, great history & fantastic location!! - Upon arrival the hotel lived up to every expectation I'd had from reading about it & seeing the photos. We stayed in the Deluxe Suite which is beautifully decorated & overly spacious. The room was so big we found it a little hard to sleep but who can switch off in a city like florence sleeping in a 500year old palace?! Lol Communal areas offer music & books for all guests which was a nice surprise I wasn't expecting.
- Laura (10/5): Beautiful old Florentine palace, excellent service - We had an amazing two-night stay at Palazzo Tolomei during our recent honeymoon. The proprietor, Daniela, was more than gracious, and hosted an amazing breakfast for the guests one morning (which only happens once a month or so, we're told) - I think it was the best breakfast we had during two weeks in Italy! Our room (and, actually, the entire place) was absolutely gorgeous, spacious with a beautiful fresco painted on the ceiling. The location is also perfect, only about two blocks from the Duomo. It wasn't exactly inexpensive, but I think it was great value for the money. If we're ever able to go back to Florence, and I hope we are, we will definitely stay at Palazzo Tolomei! I couldn't recommend it more highly.
- Patricia (8/5): - It is a beautiful old Palazzo. My room though was very small and I did not get the internet unless I went down the hall to one of the public rooms. I had trouble getting into bed since the room was only about one foot wider than the bed. It did have a small kitchenette area so I was able to make coffee in the morning. All the public rooms in the Palazzo were very nice and comfortable. The restaurant for breakfast was around the corner and had a wide selection of items. On the weekends, though, they serve breakfast at the Palazzo and it was truly the best I had in my two week stay in Italy. It had meat, cheeses, tomatoes, breads and sweets that I couldn't begin to list here served in one of the beautiful rooms. Wonderful spread.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Atmospheric and Elegant - We stayed five days, and found it an interesting place, since it is not really a hotel/guesthouse. It is just an old historic building where the owners allow people to rent out rooms which has advantages and disadvantages. It's an old gothic sort of place, a little creepy on a dark day, but with plenty of character. If you are into atmospherics and history, arches, alcoves, heavy front door with iron portcullus things, statues, old stone stairs, and mysterious corridors leading into dark unknown areas, this is your place. On the positive side, Daniella and Titiana were the two women there, and they were friendly and welcoming enough. The room was large, and the location is great, right in the middle of Florence. You can walk to everywhere. However, being a sort of private residence, and often empty and forbidding, there is a feeling of intruding. There are so many rooms, and it's not clear where one should go. Looking for an attendant to ask a question, I called out into the main reception (empty), heard some voices, carefully walked into a room, and a strange woman came out, curtly telling me it was a private area. I was prompty ushered out. One thing to keep in mind is that the breakfast is not what you'd think. The staff give you breakfast vouchers for 'Za Za', a nearby restaurant, and you walk there. Having said that, Za Za provide an acceptable fare, and it's a good place to eat at night, too - particularly for the 'bistecca fiorentina' - that huge T-bone steak.

When people came back to their room late, the lights shone into your room and early single notice echoed throughout. Wifi was very sporadic through the ancient thick stone walls. Felt safe. Due to size and layout of room could be hard to get around furniture but overall the space was adequate.

I made a reservation for 1 night to this hotel at 9pm and my reservation went through and I got a reservation confirmed by the hotel and travelocity. When my daughter and I arrived at the hotel door pulling our luggage for 15 min cross the streets, we got a door closed and a lady in the inter phone stubbornnessly staying that last check in is at "7pm". Despite I pay for a confirmed reservation for a room at 10pm, we were left in the street with no solution from this hotel for me and my 7yo. this is disgraceful and criminal. To our luck, near by hotels's lobbymen find us a backup solution.. Thanks to them we ended up having a room for that night. I would not recommend this hotel at all especially for single parents traveling.

- David (10/5): Centrally located, helpful hostess - It's centrally located in the Florence old town. 5 minutes walk to Duomo. It's a historic building with a courtyard and gives you a feeling about the grandeur of rich families in old times. Daniella is super friendly and helpful. She upgraded us to a 2-bedroom suites on the top floor, with a rooftop terrace with view of the city. We had to depart very early in the morning and she hand-arranged a breakfast basket for us to take onto the train. She also helped arrange a taxi to help us get to the train station, not knowing that taxis would be on strike the next day. When she found out in the morning, she rode her bike out to help us grab a taxi and we were able to catch our train. We were very grateful.

They left us a bottle of champagne and chocolates to congratulate us on our recent wedding. The only complaint would be that the bathroom had a slight smell to the shower and the shower would flood the bathroom floor, but other than that, it was a wonderful stay.

They don't build these any more! - Palazzo Tolomei is an actual PALACE turned into an 8 room boutique hotel and managed by the building's incredibly gracious and lovable owner. It was a FABULOUS experience! We were there for our 20th wedding anniversary and will never forget it. We travel a good bit and stay in many nice places and none felt as special and personal as this one. Just book it!
