• Anuradha (2/5): - The experience was very bad. I kept calling the front desk multiple times that a/c doesn’t work but no one fixed anything. The interior looked bad and the place was very smelly.

As far as I could tell the bed was clean but the room and restroom in particular had a bad stench. I think I “what I paid for” but in the future I’d rather pay a few extra dollars for something a bit nicer. On a positive note it wasn’t to far from train stations

Just keep in mind, it is hotel policy to return your key every day you leave and you’ll get it back when you return. Plenty of shopping in the area, family mart and 7/11 are within 1 block of the hotel, domino’s is next door, and Ikebukuro station is a 5-8 minute walk from the door. Highly recommend this property for anyone seeking a comfortable place that’s easily accessible to the greater Tokyo area. (The rooms are small and the bathrooms are tiny, other than that, there’s absolutely no complaints)

Trots daglig städning med god hygien så var hotellet fortfarande väldigt smutsigt. Städpersonalen hade otroligt god service. Dock var servicen i receptionen ingen vidare. Beroende på vem som var på plats var avgörande om de skulle låta en ens låna hotell telefon för att ringa en taxi till flygplatsen. Vi gjorde två försök, med olika personal i receptionen innan vi fick hjälp. Nämnvärt, personer som inte bor på hotell får endast vistas i lobbyn. Om de inte betalar en avgift.

• Yan (6/5): - The Stay Hotel New Star Ikebukuro is located conveniently near Ikebukuro station (5-10 minute walk, depending where you exit). I guess this is what you call the typical business hotel for business travelers. It has most if not all the essential you'll need for the stay. But is not a fancy like some of the big name hotel, but is not bad. The place is old, but they keep it fairly clean (to Japan standard), compare to some motel and hotel. Don't expect a nice view or nice lighting, but is a decent place to stay if you don't want to share rooms. The Miscellaneous The hotel is located in a good location with different various shop, restaurants, and other amenities nearby (I mean it is in Tokyo). They are conveniently walkable. Sunshine City is also a walkable distance as well. The staff seem sincere and try to explain the process to travelers. They mention you should leave the key with them before you leave to explore so they can clean the room when you are out. All in the all, it is not an upscale place, but is a decent place if you are looking for something not super expensive to stay the night.

They advertise laundry services, but I learned that the laundry was offsite and had to be paid for, which was a bit unfortunate

Got bad attitude from front desk clerk as an introduction, because given the look of the lobby I requested to see the room before committing fully to stay. Even though he reluctantly gave permission to inspect the room. I opted not to stay. Property needs a total remodel upgrade. Looks dated and wasn’t clean, but most importantly staff needs to learn the meaning of hospitality. Location is great but too bad they sucked!

• Verified traveler (8/5): Not too bad - The hotel was easily accessible from the JR Ikebukuro station. Surrounds was ok, convenience stores around! The room was a bit small but liveable. The condition of the room was not the best… moldy walls and a bit warm unless you open the window. Otherwise it was pretty ok. Good service and daily housekeeping.
• Chiaki (8/5): - This is a nice hotel for short business stay with budget and probably for sightseeing in the Tokyo area. I was staying for a few weeks and not for comfort so if you are looking for a comfortable hotel stay, this may not be your immediate choice.

• Verified traveler (8/5): - This hotel was roughly a 5 minute walk from the JR Ikebukuro station if you're not carrying any luggage. Unfortunately, none of the exits have elevators, so if you're bringing a lot of luggage with you, the walk between the station to this hotel will take longer. The room I stayed in was very basic and very small, which is typical of a business hotel room in Tokyo. Staff were very friendly and helpful. This hotel does have a washer and dryer located outside of the building and they cost 100 yen each to run. You do need to leave the key at the front desk whenever you leave the building, but there was always someone at the desk whenever I exited and entered the building. There are also a lot of convenience stores and dining options within a block from the hotel!

• Brent (4/5): Good location but run down - Firstly the hotel is in a good location in Ikebukuro. Unfortunately that’s the only positive. Rooms are very run down with marks & dents & stains all over the walls. Really needs to be patched & painted. My TV & wifi didn’t work. It took a number of calls & visits to the front desk to get it sorted. Rooms are the standard small business style you find in Tokyo. While I good price I think you can find a much better & better condition hotel to stay at for a few more dollars
• Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff is helpful and friendly. The hotel is located at the centre of Ikebukuro. We can walk to the train and metro station. There are many shops and restaurants nearby. I have a nice time staying at this hotel. It is comfortable and cozy enough.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Tiny room, great service, terrible location - Pros: The hotel was very clean and the staff had decent English language skills and were super polite, diligent, helpful, etc. Cons: The room was tiny, even by Tokyo hotel standards. I'm just barely under 6 ft tall (1.83 m) and in shoes, my head almost scraped the door frames and I hurt myself getting from bed to bathroom more than once. Also, inside the bathroom would have felt an airplane restroom if not for the shower. The hotel is in a terrible location- A hike from the nearest train station and just outside of a fairly sketchy part of Ikebukero where it's easy to get turned around and lost if you don't know the area. There are some useful restaurants and stores nearby but the neighboorhood also has also quite a few love hotels and girl bars and everything that comes with that. Also, the hotel listed massage among the amenities but when I got there, there was just a small placard ad for an outcall massage service placed next to the bed. Given the nature of the neighborhood, I did not partake.
• Gene (10/5): - Cozy little hotel about 10 min walk from Ikebukuro Station. It’s off a main road so easy to find. Small and not ostentatious, just right for a place to sleep after activities. 3 convenience stores (Lawson’s, Family Mart, and 7-Eleven) within walking distance.

• Beverly (10/5): Great value - The staff that is hotel was so nice even if we couldn’t communicate in English. The location is .3 miles from Ikebukuro West Station. (About 4 & 1/2 bloocks) the only problem was the washer didn’t drain and I had to dry the clothes for a very long time. This hotel is very close to 7/11 and many eating places.

• Verified traveler (8/5): Great location and nice room size - Everything was wonderful, my only complaint is that it gets cold in the winter, which is natural for more traditional style Japanese hotels, and that the bed and pillow aren't quite up to the "European/American" standard, but again, it is a bed and not a futon, so I am happy! Would stay again.
• Kuma (8/5): small room but convenient and clean - it takes us around 8-10 mins by walk to hotel from Ikebukuro JR Station but walkable distance and convenient to the restaurant and izakaya street. The room is clean, there's a TV, hair dryer, bathroom amenities, fridge and slipper provided so you can just walk there and spend the night without worrying whether u need to by any additional stuffs.

• Eric (8/5): Close to everything - The hotel is in a convenient, quiet location with easy access to shops, restaurants, department stores, supermarkets and train station. It only takes about 12 minutes to the main train station. There is laundry facilities with free detergent.
• Joey (10/5): Cosy hotel close to everything - The price for this hotel is well worth it. Have stayed here twice as a couple and even though the semi double bed might look small, it really is quite cosy and comfortable. The bathroom is always well-stocked and clean, although only one person can fit in it at any one time. The hotel is located close to late night eating spots, shopping malls and Ikebukuro station which is along the Yamanote line. Super convenient! There are also lots of convenient stores located close to the hotel, the closest being Lawson which is just next to the hotel's lobby. Hotel staffs are really efficient and friendly. Checking in and out are a breeze. They have a small cafeteria at the lobby which some guests have mentioned have a pretty good breakfast (not complimentary, though), but we haven't had the chance to try it since there are so many options close by. All in all, a very nice little hotel for those who want to have the comforts of one at a reasonable, affordable rate. Have already booked my flight back in July at the same hotel so it is that good! Haha.

• N (10/5): nice hotel - Nice place for the money. I'd definitely stay here again. Just a good basic hotel to stay at. Biggest issue is the shortest route from the station is through a small red-light district which although not dangerous can get annoying at night - but I'm sure that's why the price is good. Also, I couldn't figure out how to cool the room so i just opened the window - however this seems to be a problem at almost all the Japanese hotels I've stayed at. And the bidet was broken - not a deal-breaker but I had to use TP like in the US.

One thing I was wishing is TOWELS. Both Bath Towel and Face Towel are too too too thin and small. Nobody like those towels for sure.
• Jared (8/5): - Little hotel great for short stays. Near ikebukuro station.
• Verified traveler (6/5): - With a limited budget, the hotel is good. Not over HKD 400 per night before tax. It is quite easy to find and convenient that just a few minutes from the station. The restroom is clean. But the room is quite dark. The way to the hotel has quite a number of nightclubs. The staff outside were male who dressed suits. They are nice and would not disturb others. It is quite safe in a way that there is quite a number of people on the street.
• Verified traveler (10/5): cheap and good location - room is cozy , i love the size that is capable for single guy. and the distance to ikebukuro station is not so far. also there are many food shops around, too many choices to me!!!
• Andrew (4/5): Old but just functional. - Old hotel, room info card was printed at least 20 years ago, had to go to front desk to ask for Wi-Fi password. Neighbourhood has a certain questionable reputation, just get to the station and you will be OK.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Near station - Difficult to find for the 1st visit, after that, the hotel is near West Ikeburo Station (just 5 minutes walk), nice location.
• sharon (8/5): Good business hotel in a convenient area. - Hotel was within walking distance out west exit of Ikebukuro station. Small rooms but clean and comfortable. Convenience store next door. Great price for Tokyo.
• E (6/5): Location is good, fair room cleaness. - Convenient to Lawson100, FamilyMart and 7eleven. Fair distance to Metro, around 5mins walk. Surrounded by many restaurants. In overall, the location is good, but the room cleaness can be better. By the way, the room is too small for couples, we even cannot place 2 laggages on floor at the same time.
• Verified traveler (8/5): - Acceptable room bearing in mind the price. But there is no ventilation in the bathroom. The barhroom is smelly.
• Fred (8/5): Convenient for our purpose - We needed a bed for three days prior to a cruise and found this excellent for our purpose. Smelled smokey as we are non smokers but window opened for fresh air. A young receptionist was exceptionally helpful as we know no Japanese and directions he wrote for us were spot on. Good job!!
• Sean (10/5): Nice hotel in a great location - Hotel New Star is close 8 minute walk from the rail lines which connect pretty much anywhere. There are hundreds of places to eat around the area. The rooms are small but comfortable, but that was expected. I'd definitely stay again.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Not a good value place to stay in... - it is situated from the railway station around 15min walk, there is several convenient shops nearby, which is nice. But we were disappointed with the stay here. We booked a non-smoking room, but the room we stayed with some smell in it. The facility and decoration is kinda old, the lighting is dim in the room, the bedsheet turned gery..., which make us feel uncomfortable. Well, for the same price, we expect a better room..
• LUI (6/5): Really far from the JR station - the staff are very nice and can speak English, the toilet is not clean enough but the bed and pillow is comfortable. The location is really far from the JR station, nearly have many restaurant which closed lately
• Verified traveler (6/5): Decent price and comfort for the location - Stayed here for one night and was reasonably happy with this choice--good price for the location (5 minute walk from Ikebukuro exit C6), relatively clean, and quiet. Only issues were the room temperature was in general a bit too hot and a bit cramped by the door given I had a large suitcase. Also, I'm not sure if it's normal but I had a friend come up to visit the room to eat a bento dinner and was told I would be charged 2000 yen for them to spend more than about 1 hour in the room. I would stay here again for the location and reasonable price but might consider other options nearby next time. One other note is that the staff seems to speak very little English but probably enough to get by if you don't know any Japanese.
• Phil Whittington (10/5): Good for a first night in Tokyo - Like many places in Tokyo I found it difficult to locate anything after leaving the metro station but managed to find this hotel quite by chance. The service was good, the Japanese breakfast excellent (rated by a Westerner at least) and the hotel very comfortable and situated close to the Ikebukuro railway station, which is virtually a self-contained city in itself! By Tokyo standards it is also reasonably priced.
• b. (10/5): Better than expected. - Decent room with enough supplies. I love the green tea sachets they provide!
• Vivian (6/5): Okay to stay at the price - Location is good, room basically okay. Unluckily I have problem with WiFi using my apple mobile phone in the first day. But the reception is helpful and let me use a labtop from them.
• Emilia Ko (8/5): Good choice - Nice hotel. The C/P value is high.
