• Verified traveler (2/5): Reservation not honored - Our experience with Residence House Aramis Down Town was terrible. We had booked and paid $443 for our room in advance. When we arrived to check in at 9pm, the hotel lobby was closed and we found a note in the window for us, stating that the reception time was over and that we could check in the next morning. I called to hotel to see about checking in and was told that it was not possible. The man I spoke with said "it isn't fair" and that I could call hotels.com if I had a problem with the situation. Since we do not check email or our phone while we travel, we had printed out our original reservation confirmation, which did not state anything about a check-in time (the reservation confirmations for the other 2 hotels we had booked for the trip did include check-in times). We had no idea that our arrival time would be a problem. It was horrible- we were in a strange city late at night with no where to go. I did contact hotels.com, who attempted to get a refund for us. The hotel said that they would refund the 2nd of the 2 nights we had booked, but not both. We were refunded $181. Looking back afterwards, we did find a follow-up email that included the check-in time in small print at the bottom of the email, but nothing in the original confirmation, and nothing about the check in time on the reservation here on hotels.com. Stay away from this hotel!!!

My only slight criticism would be that the mattress was quite hard with some springs which I could feel. Overall though I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks for a great stay!

It was really quiet even on Saturday night when the surrounding streets were rammed with people, music and bars.

Misleading pricing , Rude management! - Initially, the adverts for this hotel look very enticing and good value, but beware of the very inflexible management, inflexible booking system and added costs of staying here. Extra fees for room cleaning! deposits for everything and dont dare question or ask for anything different or you receive threats and abuse!

Staff extremly helpful, from the moment we arrived well before check in time by having prioritised preparing our room to a genuine send off at the end of our stay. Great location near the Navigli, on a quiet road. public transport, both metro and tram close by. Small kitchenette in the room was useful, and a nearby supermarket providing provisions.
• Mark (10/5): Excellent Stay in Milano Navigli Area - Best international hotel stay I've had in a long long time. We were made to feel more like family than hotel guests. Willy took care of every need, often bending over backwards to do so. The hotel is not the most modern or well decorated location, but it had a very homey feel, like I was staying at a friend's house. The room (apartment, really) was quite spacious, with a full kitchen. It was located in a very charming part of town, five minutes or less from the canals and many restaurants. A nice twenty minute walk to the Duomo area or the Castle. Easy access to the metro and/or trams at Pt. Genova.

• David (8/5): Excellent location, good functional room - All in all we had a great time staying at Luigi's residence. Recent refurbishment is good. Location is fantastic for walking to Navigli, the canal area with lots of nightlife and restaurants. Also, great to walk to historical sites such as Duomo (20mins) and museums etc. 5 mins walk to the Metro too if you prefer not to walk. Only warning is to be careful to check on extras. What you may assume are included in other bookings may not be here. E.g. although the room includes a basic kitchen, if you use it, you will be charged a daily cleaning fee. Also, if you have a baby who needs a crib, there is a daily 40eur charge for the crib. While it was clear on the booking form (in hindsight), it is something that I missed. Very happy with the residence and location.

The location is excellent, minutes walk to the canals for an abundance of choices for restaurants and close to the green metro line taking a few minutes to the centre of town.

Breakfast was in a small cafe next door so we had the whole Utalian experience. Great coffee and warm croissants with the locals and their dogs. Milan was a surprise. Loved it.

No food or drink service; no amenities; no phone (so no way to contact hotel staff); and no laundry services. Aramis is very run-down and the rug must have recently been replaced because I almost passed out from the fumes every time I had to go into the hallway. Cleanliness is average. The location is average, but as a woman I would not feel comfortable going out of my room alone. The sleep quality was awful: the beds were extremely uncomfortable and it was very noisy; which made for terrible sightseeing in Milan (I was always tired and my back and hips always ached).

The people on reception are very helpful and there until 9pm. The room has all you can need (including a water machine)and the building is secure. The only downside was the daily 07:00 to 07:30 kiddy shouting from the flat upstairs, as they got ready for school

• Mark (10/5): A Reason to Return to Milan - I have only good things to say about this stay - fruit basket, fresh flowers, complementary mineral water dispenser, immaculately clean room and bath, refrigerator stocked with various types of soda, microwave, complementary laundry, firm mattress and other things I cannot remember. On top of this, the owner was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and open to all questions asked. He went out of his way to make us welcome at his hotel and in his city. My wife and I stayed here twice over a week for a total of five days with a side trip between stays. If we are in the vicinity again, this is the place we will stay.
• David (8/5): Very friendly and convenient hotel - The owner of Residence House Aramis, Luigi, categorized his hotel as small, family owned, and not a big brand. I'd agree. The hotel is located in the Navigli district of Milan, and, at first, may appear to be in a bad neighborhood. There is alot of graffiti on neighboring buildings. But the hotel is charming, and Luigi and partner Willy are absolute delights. Our room was fairly large by European standards and had an alcove kitchen. We particularly appreciated the welcome fruit basket and the large tank of mineral water. We were a few blocks from the charming canal district, and about one mile from the Duomo and major tourist attractions. Breakfast was included in our rate and was available around the corner in a quaint coffee shop. (Great cappuccino and croissants!) But Luigi and Willy are the main attractions. They were extremely welcoming and suggested numerous restaurants and places to visit. All of their suggestions, especially Sabbia D'Oro, were excellent. (We also had an amazing dinner at Woodstock 3, Via Vigevano, 43. Wonderful pasta and outstanding thick, humongous pizza.) They made us feel right at home, and we were sorry when we had to check out.
• Shelley (10/5): Best Hotel stay in Europe - On arrival we were greeted by Willy , who not only checked us in but took us out of the building and down the road to show us where to catch the tram and explain the area.Then took us to the shop and explained how the tram tickets worked. Back at the hotel he showed us to our room and took our bags, the friendliest welcome we have had in our 6 weeks of travel in Europe. In the room were fresh flower and a fruit basket to welcome you.. While we were out dining and walking the streets that first evening , Luigi from the hotel spotted us and jumped out of his seat to see if we were okay and needed anything, Luigi was also friendly and helpful and gave good suggestions for dining in the area. Great hosts thank you. Highly recommend this hotel would stay here again without doubt.
• RAS (10/5): Nice hotel, great location and superb hosts - Don't let the graffiti in canal area of Navigli put you off, the area is outstanding and Residence House Aramis Downtown is an excellent place to stay. Luigi and Willi went well out of their way to make my stay pleasurable. It is immediately apparent that both are dedicated to making their guests' visits comfortable and memorable. I was in town for a conference at the MiCo, and was very glad that I chose to stay in Navigli. Some amazing restaurants are in easy walking distance from this hotel. The public transportation is very easy to navigate, even though I do not speak Italian, and everywhere I went I felt very safe, even late into the evening. I will definitely return to the Residence House Aramis if I have occasion to return to Milan for business. I found it to be a great place to anchor my exploration of the city.

Staff / owner treat you like VIP's. You are a couple blocks from the canal where all the local action is restaurants, night life and shoppes. Also local market. Good walking distance to the central square. If I get to Milan again this is where I will stay. Luigi and Willy thank you for your hospitality.

• Qian (10/5): Nice hotel close to everything - The hotel is really close to the canal, which doesn't seem at first glance a major plus, but in fact, a lot of restaurants and nightlife is on the canal just a stone throw from this hotel. The facilities are great, and include a lot of extras (the wifi was great!). The owner is super nice and gave us all the info we needed to really enjoy our stay. Really, best location in town!
• Verified traveler (6/5): Best Proprietor anywhere - This is a difficult review because the proprietor of this hotel was the most incredibly helpful, professional and friendly hotel manager ever. This "hotel", however, was really a short term apartment- a large comfortable, but dated room, with a table, chairs and kitchenette. bathroom was just OK although linens were quite nice. It was not a "4 star" based on my experience with many 4 and 5 star hotels. I felt the price I paid was high for this kind of hotel but again, the service made up for so much of the shortcomings of the room itself. I find myself conflicted on how to rate my overall experience. Milano is hosting Expo 2015 which may have raised hotel prices. The location was excellent and we could walk everywhere without a problem. It is in the newest "hot" area of Milan, Posta Ticenese. But the building itself was strange. I made the reservation by phone with a Hotel.com rep. I am thinking that she did not really understand this property. That would have helped me know what to expect. I just searched for hotel rooms in Milan for July and found many for less money that seemed more what I would have expected.
• Ross (10/5): Excellent - I struggle with the star ratings in Europe, but Amaris is 5 star in my opinion. The room was large and clean and the extras such as the friendly and helpful service, a bowl of fruit and the daily news from home make for a unique touch. It is a little out of the centre of the city, but easy to get to from the Porta Genoa subway station.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay here again.

The kitchenette area was nice for meals without the need to go to a restaurant. Great roomy shower with stone bench and great water pressure and towel warmer. I agree with another reviewer that hair drying in kitchen was not as convenient since it did not plug in the bathroom properly, but the location of this hotel and the readily available day staff superseded faults.

• DonBilly (8/5): Don't judge the book by the cover - The via mortara looks a bit off putting on first arrival but in fact it is just the eclectic nature of the wall murals that the businesses on the street - boxing gym, cabaret bar. The receptionist/concierge for our stay was Willy and I don't think I have come across a more helpful member of staff on any other trip. My wife had a birthday during our stay and Willy, seeing the cards which she had opened, left a happy birthday message with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco. Milan was great and the "buzzing" area of navigli is 5 mins walk away

• Shirell (8/5): Nice hotel, close to everything and amazing staff - We liked this hotel but we loved the staff. Luigi greeted us upon arrival and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. He explained how to get to everything and asked if we needed anything. Willie, the other owner, was around a bit more and super responsive to our needs. As a family of four it was wonderful. The hotel is literally in walking distance to everything a tourist would want to see, which is great. No taxi needed. If you decide you want to rest your feet, it is very easy to navigate the public transportation system.

But the listed price was dishonest since there was a $15 per night "resort fee" even though this very obviously was not a resort. I think that hotels.com should make sure that its listed prices are the real prices and not just a come-on. Even with the $15 resort fee the price of our room was reasonable, but I found the use of a non-standard add-on annoying. Also, the picture shown on hotels.com for the hotel was quite unrelated to our experience in this hotel. There are some canals in the neighborhood, but none were part of our experience in this hotel.
• Teg (8/5): Great value 20 min walk from city centre - A large room with a kitchen provides a great base. The manager has a great personality and was most helpful. Easy public transport or walk to city centre.
• alyssa (8/5): Home away from home - This isn't a hotel it's better! The room was very comfortable and has more than you need + more! Location is close to wonderful restaurants and bars and only 15-20 min walk to the major sites but also around the corner from the metro that will take you wherever you need to go. What makes Residence House Aramis is Luigi, Luigi is helpful making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible! We will definitely be back to stay. • SpinMommy (8/5): Excellent Urban-Family Stay - I stayed at the Residence House with my husband and two kids (3 and 6) for 3 nights before departing by train to another Italian city(May 2013). I contacted Luigi (manager) in advance via email. I wrote in Italian but Luigi is a fluent English-speaker (as is his partner, Willy). The 1st thing he did was get us a taxi upon arrival at Malpensa. I warned I'd have a lot of luggage & a carseat, & the gentleman who arrived was driving a van…score! Luigi said he would be away but that Willy would be there to assist us. Residence house is different: this really isn't a hotel. It's more like an apartment building (better for a family visit: kitchen, etc.). The managers aren't always there, but whenever I needed anything, I could call & get help immediately. Two things I wasn't expecting: Willy BOUGHT US LUNCH (the four of us) our 1st day!! It was completely and, pleasantly unexpected. Second, with kids, I was producing a lot of dirty clothes in 3 days. Willy had it washed for us at no charge. The only negatives: there's no extra lock on the door, just the 2-sided key lock. Being from NY/NJ, I was mildly uncomfortable without an extra deadbolt, but there are 2 door locks entering the building. The other is that the toilet didn't always remove solid waste well. It never backed up, but you could see the solid waste sitting there at the bottom, despite it flushing properly every time. I would recommend this place and even stay there again if we go on a family trip to Milan again!!!
• Stewart (10/5): Great hotel for the discerning traveller - I would like to start by thanking all staff at the residence house Aramis , I could not have been made to feel more welcome in a Michelin 5 star hotel / restaurant . We were greeted in a very friendly manner and promptly shown to our room , The room was clean and secure with everything we needed for a lovely stay in Milan , The city centre was only a 10/15 min walk away with excellent access to buses trams etc... The (navigli) area is where the apartment was located that area has lots of nice bars and restaurants supermarket etc ....... I could honestly not recommend this place enough to anyone who is looking for clean safe and comfortable residence while visiting this city . luigi and Willy are delighted to show you where places are, even if they lead you personally to the door of a good pizza shop nothing is too much trouble. The wifi connection was fast and reliable and all in all its a big thumbs up from us . If we go back to Milan I will definately stay here again .
• Verified traveler (6/5): Milan - Nice, very close to metro. Close to grocery store and other services needed since there is no breakfast but there is a kitchen.
• Martine (2/5): Ridiculously overpriced and overrated - We stayed at Residence Aramis for 2 nights last week. NOT a good idea.First you have to take an appointment 24 hours in advance in order to have the key of your room. It was written in very small characters at the bottom of the reservation sheet. Moreover, you have to pay extra 20 Euros for the linen and 30 euros for the cleaning lady. Also the parking is at 1/2 mile from the hotel. Hotel at 25 min walking from the center (Duomo). But located in a nice area of the city. Room was at a 2 star hotel level at the very most. Ugly furnitures, dirty walls, old and stained paint, etc. There is absolutely NO garden and NO view on the city. All we could see is an ugly roof accessible by anybody, so you cannot keep the window open. There is absolutely NO reason to pay that much for this hotel, IT IS A VERY BAD CHOICE!!
• Victim (4/5): Really dissapointing - Where do i start. First thing is the criticisim of expedia - on arrival we were asked for 50 euro by the front desk. 20 for bed clothing and towels and 30 for cleaning the room. There was a potential further 30 in taxes which we were not charged. why was this not covered in the price and located elsewhere of the expedia page at £132 per night plus this is shocking. The area was was shabby noisy and about a 30 minutes walk from the centre. On arrival the room smelt of eggs to which we were advised to open a window as the indians down the hall were always cooking. Noisy city street v smelly room? The room was extremely basic, the bathroom was shocking and dated. The bed was a fold away bed and rock solid. The air con did not work properly and to be honest if i hadnt chosen a "non refundable" option i would have left the following morning.
• SL (10/5): Perfect stay to enjoy the City - First of all, I am rating the Aramis as an apartment hotel. That means no room services; and there is cleaning only every couple of days or so. It is up to you to keep the place neat and tidy. With that out of the way, the Aramis is clean and comfortable. Good hot water shower pressure. Clean and comfy bathroom. The towels and air-conditioning machine can use an update, but again functional and up to what is expected of an apartment hotel. Luigi the main staff of the hotel is a gem. Always helpful with suggestions, always smiling and speaks excellent English. Very generous with his advices. There is compliementry water, milk, juice, snacks and a bottle of wine pre-stocked, perfect after a long day of travel. The neighbourhood is outside of the crazy busy part of Milan. Quiet location. Short walk to Metro, an express supermarket, an outdoor open market, and the tram. It is also closed to the Nagivali district where there are dozens of good restaurants. The open market, not for the cheap junks, is an excellent place to buy the freshest fruits in the morning; had the best pears I ever tasted all for 2.5 euros for 1kilo! Lastly the free Wifi is reliable and moderately capable (ie. open most files, downloads and streaming). If you are like us who travel to see the city and mostly eat out and stay in the hotel only at night, the Aramis is a great inexpensive option. I give an excellent score for what the Aramis delievers and not because it is a 5-star hotel.

• Bex (8/5): Unbeatable location - Keeping in mind this is an apartment hotel, and not a regular hotel, we were very pleased with our stay. The location is incredible and cannot be beaten. Very close to Milan's very pleasant canal area where locals eat and drink and shop. Only a 15 min walk to the Duomo and the centre. We loved Luigi who ran the place. He was a font of knowledge and gave us many helpful tips. He even emailed me after we left to check we enjoyed our stay and to check I had recovered from an eye infection I had. We would definitely go back.
