Guest Reviews
- Christina (10/5): Want to go back!!!! - Stayed for 6 nights, in the duplex room which has two floors with 2 children. Spacious, clean and great decor. facilities were great they even had a washing machine in the room and plenty of kitchen facilites so you could actually prepare a meal there if you wanted to. not that we used either as there is far too much to do, see and eat in Istanbul. Its in walking to the museums / mosques and sights in SultanAhmet. The only thing that could be an issue about staying here is if you had someone with molbility issues as its half way up a hill with steps which was fine with us but i can imagine this could be an issue for some visitors.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ruffa kvarter men rekommenderas!
- Muhammad (10/5): Definitely worth going back to it - I loved my stay in Ascot House. My reason for choosing the place was that its location was not very touristy even if it was only half a mile away from the Blue Mosque. It was a working class neighbor of shoe makers. I wanted to see how a turkish neighborhood looked and that's what I got. Everyday I had breakfast with Turkish coffee at a neighborhood borek (pie) shop, which charged three times less than the cafés around Blue Mosque.
- alghaieb (2/5): Bad hotel, very dirty room - This hotel is located in very dirty area, this does not worth the mony I paid.
- Taina (6/5): Excellent location and nice atmosphere. - The location was very authentic and close to all main sights, so we didn't need any transportations during the stay. There was also a very very large restaurant area between the hotel and the sea. This was not a five star hotel, but the atmosphere was very good and mrs Gul was most kind and very friendly. Next time in Istanbul maybe we stay in the same place.
- Verified traveler (6/5): In Ordnung - Allgemein inOrdnung. Sauberkeit gut. Central gelegen.
Fazit : Befriendigend bis Gut.
- Asif (6/5): Highly unsuitable position for families - This hotel is not suitable for families with kids as the street is very steep and there is no access for the cars due steps on the street. In addition, the neighbourhood is very filthy as there is too much trash on the street. This hotel is located in residential area and poor people stay outside there doorstep late night though there was no issue of security.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice Hotel - its good some thenk but he s need more servis in more to cear for custmoer
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fabulous Apartment in a rundown residential area - Hotel was very consistent to description of it on internet. Rooms were clean with enough room (just) for 2 Adults & 2 teen children.
Location was great, 5 minutes to Grand Bazaar & Tram line. 10 minutes to many & different eating establishments.
Local residents extremely friendly even though they did not have much English language.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Falsche Beschreibung + fehlleitende Expedia-Bilder - Die Hotellage ist sehr schlecht. Sehr laute Umgebung.
- Taj (4/5): Taj - It was difficult to reach the hotel & very hard to bring up your luggage.
- Maijanfad (8/5): A homey place for family - We really like our place as it is big and ample of space for family of 5 to stay there. At first we were skeptical as we climbed up the steps on the street going to the hotel but after that reaching the hotel and familiarize ourselves with the surrounding it is actually a very good place to stay if you are looking for quietness and big space for rooms around Sultanahmed area. The housekeeper (Ms Gul) was really nice and helpful and tried her best to communicate with us in English. She lives just next door (5 meter away) and always stands by (literally 24 hours) to look after us.
- Masoud (8/5): Very pleasant stay in Istanbul. - We have spent an unforgettable time in Istanbul in Early September 2013. Ascot house hosted us in a very friendly way. Its actually an apartment hotel, renovated in a very classic way. Rooms are very clean and the interiors are absolutely up to date. Thanks to miss GUL, who is very kind and very cooperative we had a pleasant stay in Ascot house. She does not speak English but it was easy to communicate with her.She is the one taking care of the house, and is actually doing it absolutely fine. Before our stay in Ascot house we spent a single night in a 5 star hotel, but bravely could state it was not as clean as Ascot house. She is also very cooperative and trustful. By the way hotel is located in an area not very close to Sultan Ahmet area,,, its a bit difficult in approach , even by taxi. Area is full of small restaurants and shops hosting daily life, which is also interesting to see along with the touristic regions. I would definitely spend my next vacation in Ascot house. Again would like to say many thanks to miss GUL for her kindness.
- Maxes (8/5): Good apartment, excellent view in old Istanbul - If you want an authentic experience of old Istanbul with a superb view of the Blue Mosque (Penthouse suite) and the Sea of Marmaris then this apartment block is for you. If you're upset by relative poverty, dirty streets and a different cultural approach to life then stay in the modern area across the Golden Horn.
We loved it, the apartment had a lift that worked, air conditioning and was equipped well enough to prepare some basic meals. There was a small supermarket and other shops nearby and it was a great location for all the historic / tourist sites i.e. Blue Mosque 10 mins walk, Grand Bazaar 5 minutes. It was located in the shoemakers district which is run down in places but we felt perfectly safe whenever we were out and about.
The bed in the Penthouse suite was a bit soft (but enormous) and the bathroom a little tainted with a damp drainy smell but that's part of the deal for staying in a very old part of a city like Istanbul. However, we were personally greeted and the Turkish lady who did it was on hand as she lived across the road. The associated hotel was on the end of a phone in the apartments lobby and our transfers were very efficient.
We loved Istanbul and this was a reasonably priced option in the heart of the key visitor area. Will return again in the future.
- Husam (8/5): Ausgezeichneter Service“ - Algemein ok
- Aussie (6/5): Istanbul is a place to Visit - I stayed with my family, 4 adults, we were given garden apartment, which is a basement, there is no view, window from the bed room shows half the street and the view is people feet & cats. Being the basement facing the main street, it is noisy, add to the fact that this building is in the middle of the shoe factories, these guys start work early and work back late evenings. This particular street is very filthy, lot of rubbish, dumpsters on the corner adds the rubbish pile and it is picked up every night 1:30PM. you got to put up with the rubbish truck noise.
Hotel itself is converted from old terrace to nice & tidy level of apartments, these are done well, clean inside, small little kitchen, plates & spoons & utensil are there. Beds are not very comfortable, there are two AC that is needed in Istanbul, because the temperature 29 to 34C is common in June, July.
Caretaker does not speak English, but she is willing to help and making all the efforts to understand your needs.
Over all this hotel is in the middle of bubbling neighbourhood, I got on with the neighbours and made friends, If I return again to Istanbul, I will stay there, but on a different level not in the basement. Because it is only few minutes walk to tourist attraction.
Telephone number listed on the website is owners numbers, once you are in Istanbul, you have deal with locals, and they are pre-programmed.
WiFi works well and esy to use.
- K and M (8/5): Nice appartment and friendly caretaking-lady - This is not a hotel but an appartment. We had a nice time there although maybe the Ascot-association might be somewhat misleading - at least it might create too optimistic expectations. The house is definitely the one which is best taken care of in the genuine neighbourhood. Dia-supermarket and bakery are close by down the road. If problems occured the friendly caretaking lady who lives opposite the street solved them easily. We had the garden-appartment in the basement where you could sit outside in a backyard surrounded by walls. The two tv-sets offered more than 400 programmes - mainly arabic and turkish ones. The place is walking distance from the T1-tramway, the blue mosque and Topkapi-palace, the Kumkapi fish-restaurant square and the Yenikapi-ferry dock. Would definitely stay there again.
