- R523GEhasant (10/5): Great stay - We had an absolutely wonderful three-day stay as a family of three at Genius Hotel Downtown in Milan. We stayed in Milan due to the Olympics, and the hotel’s location was perfect—very central, within walking distance to everywhere, and also very convenient for metro and airport transportation.
The rooms were very clean, and the bathroom was spacious and at the level of a five-star hotel in terms of hygiene. The sofa bed, where our 22-year-old daughter slept, was extremely comfortable. The hotel was quiet and very safe.
The breakfast was amazing—we would like to thank the very kind staff for the delicious croissants and all the wonderful food. There was always someone at the reception, and they were all very attentive. One morning, since our daughter wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t come down for breakfast, they kindly sent a lovely tea service to our room as a thoughtful gesture.
Special thanks to Christian and the other staff at reception. If we come to Milan again, this will definitely be our address.

- Brian (10/5): The room was small by NA standards but was comfortable, great shower, quiet , great breakfast - Location is exceptional , near city centre, very close to metro, trams etc as well as central attractions, yet in a very quiet side street. Breakfast was exceptional with made to order omelettes etc, fresh expressor, wide assortment of pastries, cerial, fruits and so on A bit of explanation on "european" windows. and how they work. My bad
- Z1002WWjeffw (10/5): Four star above and beyond staff - Hotel Genius Downtown Milano.
The team, Cristian, Sofia, and Chef Sara, went above and beyond to make sure we were relaxed and comfortable. Their attentive nature and casual conversations really stood out compared to other hotels we’ve stayed in.
Cristian, Sofia, and Chef Sara were genuinely the nicest and most informative staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. They were always friendly and asked how our stay was going every time we walked in the door and into the breakfast room. The breakfast buffet offered both local and international options. Everything Sara presented tasted fresh and was beautifully presented. She knew and made my favorites after the first day just by seeing me walk in for breakfast. What a beautiful way to start a day!
Coming in for the Olympics, I was nervous about getting to and from venues, as well as places to eat and sightseeing. Cristian and Sofia were approachable, responsive, and able to recommend places to get any type of meal, as well as trolley, train, and subway transportation, with payments and the best arrival times for destinations that we needed as well. They went the extra mile to make our stay special.
We truly made friends with your employees.
Thank you for showing us the professional and humanistic welcoming of Italy. We will meet again.

- A7401AMrachelp (10/5): The Name says it all - GENIUS decision - I was originally planning to travel solo for the 2026 winter Olympics. As a female who doesn't speak Italian, I wanted a hotel in a safe neighborhood, close to both the train to/from the airport as well as a metro stop nearby in case I was out late in the city. I wanted something clean, with heating, and a hair dryer. It needed to be affordable, without sacrificing quality/safety. Those were my minimum (but essential) needs. I poured over reviews and landed on Genius Hotel. I booked, but was still slightly uneasy since it didn't have a traditional Italian name, or a hotel chain name.
A few days before landing, I reached out to the hotel about booking a shuttle. They were quick to respond. A few days later a friend decided to join me. I again reached out to the hotel to see if the room would accommodate 2 (luckily I had been a genius and booked a room that could, on the off chance a friend decided to join). We ended up not booking a shuttle (it was pricey 195) and took a taxi instead (114) - we would have taken the train but were so tired from traveling from California that we didn't want to figure it out.
We got to the hotel before check-in and they were gracious enough to hold our bags while we toured the neighborhood.
It turns out this hotel location was the single best decision! It is right by a Metro stop on the M1 line. It is walking distance to one of the major Hop-on/Hop-off bus locations (that serves 3 lines). It is a hop, skip, and a jump from the Castle (which bonus is a great place to walk around the park). There are a number of restaurants nearby that have gluten-free options (my friend is gluten-free). You can walk to the Duomo (without needing to stay over there. It is located on a side street, so it is quiet.
The hotel offers a breakfast (though we didn't take advantage due to our schedule). They have filtered water in the lobby so you can refill a water bottle. There are snacks for purchase, if needed (we didn't use this amenity). We ended up with a room on the 4th floor and had a skylight in the bathroom (bonus). The temperature controls were easy to use. The hotel fit both of us and our luggage. The room was clean (and so was the bathroom). There was plenty of space for 2 people. Note for Americans: it's not a huge room like you see in rural American towns, but is comparable in size to a hotel room in a major city like NYC or San Francisco.
The staff was wonderful! Good communication before the stay and welcoming and helpful during the stay. Claudio For The WIN! Also, if you come back late night, the front door is locked. You ring the doorbell and they came right away (I see this a bonus for safety).
It has been years since I was compelled to write a review - but GENIUS HOTEL warranted it!
If I ever make it back to Milan - there's no where else I would look to stay.
- Leonardo (9/5): -
- EMILIO (10/5): -
- Geminican (4/5): Mixed review, have reservations recommending - Mixed review with this hotel.
What I liked about this hotel:
1. Location: 1 minute walk to Cairoli metro station, which is the closet station to the main attraction, Castello S'forzesco where Michelangelo's famous Pietà Rondanini is located. It's five minutes walk to Duomo if you walk nonstop. It's 10 minutes to Cardona Metro station where many lines converge. 15 minutes to Da Vinci's Last Supper, and Milan's famous opera house, Teatro Alla Scala. There are main museums such as Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Museo Poldi Pezzoli,Pinacoteca di Brera, National Museum of Science And Technology Leonardo Da Vinci to name a few.
2. They have an elevator.
3. Housekeeping kept all areas very clean and organized.
4. The front desk staff were professional and courteous.
5. Quiet since it's in a small alley, but like most European and North American buildings that's made out of wood, poor sound proof. You could hear water running or people talking above or next to your room.
6. They offer many large empty jars/bottles for you to fill up water in the lobby, a good idea for sustainability.
7. They are professional and mature in taking constructive feedback.
What I disliked:
1. This hotel charged you a four-star hotel price but provided 3 star or less service. Felt like I overpaid.
2. The air quality was not good. 3 out of 8 days there, when I walked into the room after a long day of sightseeing, the room felt soggy and humid. I had to open the air to circulate. They said the centralized air control is working set in auto, but it did not work at all.
3. The room was not ready in the way that's expected. The refrigerator did not work nor up and running. Shampoo and liquid soap gels dispensers were tight and hard to dispense. The landline, phone was not connected or in working condition. It took them 24 hours to get it connected. These three items were what I would expect as standard, none of these were "special requests" I communicated in advance. I spent two hours on Day 1 upon check in to get them to fix it, they wasted two hours of my time in Milan. The next morning, similar situation where I discovered more issues and had to communicate which also delayed the start of my activities. They fell short on room readiness, that's why I can't give higher rating than a 2. With the amount of money I paid, and given it's in mainland Italy, not Venice where it all rely on boats and manpower, this is unacceptable. Venice this time was above and beyond, but Milan did not deliver. They offered me new rooms, but it's such a hassle to move. And it's fair and reasonable to expect all these standard amenities to be in working condition.
4. The door lock was loose from inside the room for the first several days, it may not serve any function, but towards the last 2-3 days, it was tightened. The hotel never explain that to me.
5. Clothing can't be dried after a day where most other hotels could do. This hotel will take two days for your clothing to dry.
6. Their clothing heating rack in the restroom runs in a strange hour, unlike other hotels where you could control when to use it, this hotel turned it on during the day and turned off at night, which is opposite of what most hotels would do.
Other things to know:
1. Depends on your objectives in Milan. If you plan to explore nearby cities outside of Milan, I suggest you stay near Milano Centrale (Milan Central Station) area, where it's easier for you to hop on a train for day trips. But if you only want to focus on Milan's main attractions, then hotels like Genius Hotel Downtown or hotels in between Duomo and Castello S'forzesco is a better location because it will put in the center of all main attractions, and all are within 10-20 walking distance at most with easy access to Metro, trams, and buses. Either place you will have no trouble finding foods from cheap/grab and go eats to fine dining.
2. Airport transfer regardless by Uber or taxi is expensive in Milan. Perhaps one of the most expensive I've seen in the world. It has two airports, either way they are expensive. During daytime, you can take the trains, which is easy and convenient. They also have Flixbus (airport shuttle bus).
3. This hotel is renovated new, and many rooms are different sizes and not identical.
4. No USB outlet near the headboard of the bed. It's basically an old building renovated new. Many hotels in Europe are like that. They have structural limitations, so be aware of that and be ready for this type of inconvenience.
5. When you book through a third party travel platform, you likely would be instructed to pay additional amount of daily fee/tax upon arrival. This amount quoted by your travel platform may not always be the same as what the hotel say it's going to charge you. They use Euros and say such fee is non-negotiable. I was charged $8 USD equivalent. It's small things here and there they pocked additional fees. The third-party travel platform should have better communication with each hotel to ensure what's quoted is what's actually being charged. Small amount do add up.
6. This is an old building, thought renovated new. Things you flushed with your toilets could flow back. I have experienced it once in a hotel in Rome also. Better to flush it twice each time. I don't notice this issue elsewhere in other parts of Europe, but have experienced twice in Italy.
7. They do offer breakfast, which is optional, at a fee, I did not use but looks fresh and delicious.
8. They don't necessary enforce quiet hours like many hotels do, but when you raised the issue, they tried to address and solved it.
Things I disliked could be fixed, if this hotel could do that, I would say this still can be a good option if you want to stay near and in between Duomo and Castello S'forzesco. There are many hotels nearby. You have lots of choices. I was disappointed with this hotel, especially with the amount I paid.
- jenniflower51 (10/5): Winter Olympics short break - What a lovely hotel , very clean with professional friendly staff , nothing too much trouble absolutely perfect location for city centre and links to metro . Breakfast was excellent and nothing too much trouble . No noise from street , could leave luggage after check out which helped as afternoon flight I would not hesitate to go back. So much more than 3 star.
- Voyager22711733779 (8/5): Good hotel in a good location - Pleasant nice hotel in a good location. Clean, good service and staff. Breakfast ok. Nothing special, but sufficient. An added plus was the breakfast they gave us because it was due an early flight. A minus was the extra charge at the hotel, even though we paid in advance. So, you can add about fifteen euros to prices per day to the prices (this is how much we paid extra).
- peter (6/5): -
- MAHUR (10/5): -

Top Lage
Ruhige Lage Nichts
- Arbora (10/5): - La gentilezza dello staff, complimenti 💯
- İkbal Melike (8/5): Great location, great staff. - Great location, great staff. Nothing
- MEHMET (10/5): -
- Suneeti (8/5): Good facility.a bit farther from major attraction, need to serve breakfast early - Very clean, had a really nice waiting area and really good breakfast. I wish breakfast started at least at 630 instead of 7. Most tours’s first slots start at 8 and they ask you to come 15 mins early. The location of the hotel does require 10-17 mins walk from major tour starting points such as the Last Supper for example. So we pretty much have to leave the hotel by or before 715. That leaves barely anytime for breakfast. There are clear signs posted about NOT taking food outside the cafe so grabbing a couple of things to have breakfast on the go is also not allowed.
Intet
- Yasmin (10/5): As solo traveller- highly recommend it for ease & staff were amazing - Very central, staff were very hospitable - even allowed me to check in early , offered to keep my bags after checkout & Book taxi to the airport. I was travelling alone & felt very safe walking even late at night from the centre. The metros are very close by which is great to get about. Also the late check out at 12pm was a blessing!! Toiletries are provided including hair dryer which after the rain was very convenient. Nothing .. planning on booking again next month.
- Michael (9/5): Great location, clean and quiet hotel - Great location
Clean room
Good breakfast No coffee /tea/ hot water pot in the room
- Lisa (9/5): Basic, private accommodations in the heart of Milano at a semi-reasonable/high cost. - Location to attractions- all within walking distance. Train station is about a 10 minute walk. Front desk and cleaning staff, having my own room. Hot shower. Good ventilation. The price was quite high. Breakfast was not included (extra charge).

- Ketusha (10/5): I very much recommend to stay in this hotel - Great location, perfect breakfast👍 Very helpful staff, comfortable rooms , perfect breakfast
- Rita (8/5): -
Recomendo!!!

- faisalaP4287JT (10/5): 8 days stay here - I stayed in this hotel for 8 days, the staff were incredible. They were really nice and welcoming. One of the staff members who worked in the night shift was willing to provide assistance when i was sick and checked up on me multiple times during the night. Everyone there was great and the location of the hotel is really good. Finally, the cleanliness was great too
