Guest Reviews
- Guillermo (10/5): Super recomendable Hosteriía Los Hielos - La ubicación es excelente, la tranquilidad de la hostería, la amabilidad del personal y la limpieza del lugar. El acceso al patio trasero está un poco descuidado. He ido hace muchos años y estaba hermoso.

- Willem (9/5): Nice hotel with HomeFeeling - Lovely hotel with a good HomeFeeling vibe. Lots of wood and nicely build. Personel was very friendly. Room was great with good bed en good shower. View on the lake. Nice breakfast area also with view on the lake. Loved it! It was 26 degrees in El Calafate which is extraordinary. The heating system of the hotel flipped and could not be turned off! Too warm. I assume this is an exception. I did not want this to ruin the review.
Quite far from El Calafate center but this was known to us and we had a car.

- groupof7 (10/5): Very enjoyable stay. - What a wonderful place!
The staff were delightful. We arrived in the late afternoon and asked where in town we might be able to get lunch. To our surprise and delight, the staff made us lunch at the hotel, giving us time to settle in and relax!
Whilst the rooms are a little dated, there is a wonderful charm about the property. The room was large and well equipped and really warm. The main lounge is a great social space.
The breakfast was very nice with adequate choice. We even got some lovely packed lunch on one day when we were going to see the glacier.
- 684franciscou (10/5): Quaint Hotel with all that is needed in Calafate - We stayed at Hosteria Los Hielos in Calafate, a beautiful hotel on the edge of Calafate.
The rooms were great, comfortable beds. We had a room for us and a three bed room for the kids.
We had New Year’s Eve dinner (2022-2023) there and the food & service were excellent!
- jennasypr (10/5): My favorite hotel in Argentina thus far - I booked last minute because the original hotel I planned staying in is full, and they recommended this hotel to me. Initially I was a bit worried about the location, but a downtown location really isnt necessary bec the tours have pick ups, and the hotel provides transport to and from downtown in the evening.
In any case, what I love about this hotel is the hospitality and service. The staff are very lovely and warm, and helpful. The rooms are very clean as well. Everything was beyond expected.
I stayed for 3 nights, and then stayed another night when I came back from El Chalten.
- alongtheroad (8/5): Sometimes peaceful - Lovely hotel outside of the cute town of El Calafate. Did take the free shuttle into town twice for dinner. Just wish it came back a bit sooner. Stayed here before and after a trip to El Chalten. First room's jacuzzi didn't work, but second one's did and I sure needed it after the 15 mile hike to the base of Fitz Roy! Last night there, we were too exhausted to go back into town and ate at the hotel. Dinner was pretty good, better than breakfast. I will say, scrambled eggs were available every day, you just had to ask for them. Staff was friendly and helpful. I said "Sometimes peaceful" because the free-roaming dogs of this town started barking at 5:00 a.m. and did wake me up a couple mornings, and walls are thin and I did have to ask staff to ask neighbors to quiet down who were gathered in the room next door and talking quite loud. Would have been more convenient closer to town, but then again, it was nice to enjoy the serene lake view and watch the birds on the property.
- esmondl601 (6/5): Hotel in El Calafate - Small town with some of the worlds best scenery but unfortunately no accomodation to match! Los Helios has nice rooms that are reasonably well appointed and comfortable but the rest of its offering falls very short of high quality. Great views of the lake and only about 3 kms from the main town. Access is either by foot (long walk, especially if wet or windy) or by taxi (cheap and best way to go).
The in house restaurant is extremely poor and this is reflected in both the breakfast offered. Dining in should be missed if at all possible.
- Katiermm (6/5): Nice views but very basic - We were a little disappointed by this hotel.
We booked this on a package - if you got a good deal, it is a fine place to stay one or two nights while seeing Perrito Moreno, but be aware that it is basic.
The service is non existent to almost resentful of being asked. At dinner, we waited an hour and twenty minutes after ordering to receive our food, despite being the only patrons in the restaurant. Breakfast is minimal, with toast, sugary cereals and rotten bananas the mornings that we ate there.
The hotel is located a 40 minute walk into town (at a good pace), or a five to ten minute taxi ride. They have a shuttle at 7pm and 10pm you can book.
- 122mandyg (8/5): Spacious room - Our room here was very large and comfortable and had good views over the lake. Breakfast was generous and delicious. Only negative is that it’s a good 40 minute walk from town. There is a shuttle in the evening.
- 633MikeR (8/5): Great Lake Views - The bedrooms all face the lake, are spacious, and of a high standard with king sized beds with firm mattresses. The bathrooms are of a good standard.
Los Hielos hotel is a couple of kilometres outside Calafate but if the restaurant is closed they lay on a taxi into town which you can agree pick up times.
The breakfast is ok with a choice of fresh fruit, juice, good coffee and cold buffet. The dinner menu is limited but well cooked (we had a lamb stew) and inexpensive. The hotel has a small but comfortable lounge where its nice to have a beer and spot the flamingos on the lake. Helpful staff.
- Orlamunde (6/5): Basic hotel miles from town centre - This hotel is basic - shampoo sachets, no hair dryer, mediocre breakfast.
Lovely view out to the lake but it's an hour's walk along the lake shore into town (or a 5-10 minute taxi ride) if you want a better choice of food for your evening meal.
- jandghubbard (8/5): Great service from karen saved the day - This was a perfectly good mid priced hotel with an Ok room, Ok breakfast and a lovely view, but what made it really good was the service we received from one staff member ( all it takes) when our prebooked tour guide didn't show up. From 8 am to 9 am this staff member worked so hard phoning phone Buenos Aires to find out what went wrong and then helping us find a solution. Outstanding work Karen. And I'd recommend the hotel as value for money too.
- SaleenXTRM (6/5): Lovely Hotel But Out of Town - We had a very nice 2 night stay. The hotel itself is quite nice offering large rooms and a nice outlook over the lake. Staff were very helpful and spoke English well.
Breakfast adequate. We didn't eat in for dinner as the town has some wonderful restaurants which were the highlight of our 4 week Argentina/Chile holiday.
The 40 minute walk from town is just too far. A hotel shuttle was offered but at fixed times only. We walked or caught cabs.
- 161md (6/5): A nice hotel, but too far from town - The hotel is comfortable with friendly staff, but is about half an hour walk from the nearest shops on the outskirts of town. It really means you need to take a taxi to and from town.
It is reasonably priced, but the town is not
- micknor51 (8/5): Comfortable and friendly hotel. - A very comfortable hotel with large rooms, fast internet and good views of Lake Argentino. We stayed 3 nights and found staff very friendly, a well kept lawn went down to the lakeside road. The only downside is the hotel is 4 kilometres west of the town and it is a long walk back if you get off your tour to the Perito Moreno Glacier in town. That said the hotel has a free shuttle bus that will drop you in town at 7 pm and pick you up at 10 pm. Breakfast was OK but a bit limited.
- afiggis99 (8/5): Large, comfortable room; excellent staff - We stayed at the Hosteria los Hielos for two nights in March 2017. The room was large and comfortable. Although it is located on the outskirts of El Calafate, the Hosteria provides a shuttle van to town. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed coming back from a day visiting the Perito Moreno Glacier to this quiet and peaceful place.
- cloistersl (8/5): Stunning views - Quite a distance from the centre of town but it's a pleasant lakeside walk in, or take the free hotel shuttle in the evening. Our room was lovely and looked out over the lake. Ibis wandered over the lawns feeding all day.
On the down side, our only meal in the restaurant was unsuccessful. Also, we'd been told the hotel accepted US dollars but they don't so we had to use the credit card for the meal.
- Lovel-JJ (10/5): Excellent oasis to rest and enjoy the peaceful environment, views of flamingoes, black-neck swans and many other birds - Very comfortable Hostel and staff who couldn't have been more helpful. Perfect for our transition from hiking to the next stage our journey and holiday in Patagonia and so convenient for the Perito Moreno Glacier tour and visit to the excellent Glacarium Museum. A 45 minute walk along the promenade into town on the hostel's free shuttle bus.
