Guest Reviews
- Rebecca (8/5): - Good location and the price was good
- Betty (10/5): - My teenage daughter and I stayed in a Queen Deluxe room for 3 nights, and we couldn’t have been happier. It was FANTASTIC! There’s absolutely no way we could have found a better room at a better price in Manhattan.
Here are a list of the things we loved:
- the room size was more than adequate. We had a queen bed, a closet, plenty of drawers, a large desk and chair, and a nice-sized bathroom.
- our view out of our large window was quintessential NYC neighborhood. The top of the Empire State building lit up at night was also visible.
- As two females traveling alone, we never ever ever felt unsafe: not in the hotel, not in the neighborhood.
- The location was superb! We were surrounded by metro stations, making it quick and simple to get anywhere we wanted to go in the city. We also took advantage of the $1.50 pizza across the street as well as the cozy and clean little neighborhood market for fresh foods, fruits, and drinks.
- The breakfast and breakfast room was more than adequate. How can you complain about delicious and free bagels and muffins, coffee, hot tea, hot cocoa, and a clean dining room to sit in with a view of the neighborhood?
- We got into the city earlier than we could check in, and our flight out was four hours after checkout. No problem! The hotel was more than happy to hold our bags for us in a locked room, and while we waited, we explored the city.
- Wifi was flawless. Easy to connect.
We will absolutely stay here again and again and again!
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Very clean spacious room and en-suite. Great location subway stops outside door and easy walking distance to paces. Lovely helpful friendly limited facilities
- Yvonne (10/5): - Complimentary breakfast is muffins and bagels. Second time staying at this hotel. Very clean and excellent staff. Only con is dim lighting in the room.
- Brandi (10/5): - The area is great. Loved having Jakes saloon right next door. Staff was extremely great!
- Cynthia (8/5): - Good location close to Penn station. Shopping nearby. Amazing bagels and muffins for complimentary breakfast. Room dated but clean. Bed was super hard and uncomfortable.
- James (10/5): - Location was great ! Staff was very friendly.
- Susan (10/5): - What a lovely place with a very friendly staff. The breakfast was delicious — even the coffee was soooo good.
- Daniel (6/5): - Rust colored water would pour from faucet on occasion. Beds were too firm for my preference. Staff was helpful and kind. Pillows were far too hard. Air conditioning was great.
- Jennifer (8/5): - The room was clean and staff helpful, responsive, and friendly. The location was the best part-we could walk to several major sights and restaurants.
- Gemma (8/5): - Clean basic room.
View of the Empire State.
Staff were fine.
Wifi good. Good base for exploring NYC and bear the subway.
- Cynthia (10/5): - Convenient location and courteous staff
- Alfonso (8/5): - The location was great and Subway accessible. The room was a little run down, as it had seen better days. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast service was satisfactory. Too pricey for the conditions of the room and the hotel in general.
- Maikel (10/5): - Great location! Clean room
- Rishi (10/5): - We stayed for 4 nights. Its a very basic hotel however has everything you need for a stay. Staff were all lovely but the location was amazing. Would stay here again as everything else elae in the city is incredibly overpriced. Ome criticism would be the beds are very loud and creaky but that xan be changed.
- Michelle (10/5): - This is the 3rd time staying here...good value and awesome staff
- Thomas (6/5): - The beds were very hard & uncomfortable. Not to mention the plastic wrapping sound every time you moved.
- Margarita (10/5): Excellent - I can’t say any different that THANKS A LOT for the wonderful service in this hotel. The room was absolutely clean, beds are very comfortable, bathroom was immaculate. The breakfast was awesome. Everyday we had good coffee and pastries to begin our journey. The location is A+ transportation is excellent. And the staff is the best: Alvina, Agy (breakfast’s lady, Iva, Mariana and the rest of guys between maintenance and others men in the front desk. I absolutely recommend this hotel!!!
- Jodi (8/5): - We really enjoyed our stay at the Chelsea Savoy and would definitely stay there again. The rooms were clean, the A/C was fantastic and the staff was very friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be that I wouldn’t have minded a few more options for breakfast. The bagels were great, muffins a bit too dessert-like, and some fruit and protein (egg or yogurt) would have been nice. Overall our stay was great!
- Teddy (6/5): Great location but terrible bed and breakfast. - The location was great. The breakfast here is not very good with very little seating and drink options were limited. The bed was terrible; it was like sleeping on the ground. And they only like to give 2 towels even though we had 3 people.
- Kurtis (6/5): - Beds are small (full not queen). Hotel is old and needing renovations. Cheaper than other hotels, so okay if price is of paramount importance.
- Amy (10/5): - Slightly outdated but extremely clean. Subway within a stones throw. Breakfast could be improved on, maybe a juice option available. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. I would stay again.
- Marsha Van (6/5): - The hotel is in a great location, close to the subway and easy to get around. However, we arrived about an hour and a half before check in and was told we had to wait until 3 to check in. After grabbing a bite to eat and returning to the hotel we were still not able to check in. The gentleman running the front desk proceeded to have a conversation with someone on his cell phone via speaker phone, very unprofessional. We had to wait until exactly 3 to check in, I can honestly say that I have never had to wait for the exact time for check in, ever at any hotel. I do quite a bit of traveling and this was a first! Your options for breakfast are a bagel, muffin, coffee or water everyday. There is one person working the breakfast area and the area is small. There were a lot of people staying at the hotel so it was very crowded and slow going. I mentioned something to the front desk that they should have more then one person working the breakfast area and the front desk women apologized for the inconvenience. However the next morning was even worse and there were two people at the front desk chatting away while the poor women serving breakfast was trying to keep up with the demand of people. I gave up the last two days I was there and grabbed breakfast somewhere else.
- Tracey (10/5): - While dated the room was adequate for 3 nights in the city. The staff were attentive and all requests were meet. Complimentary breakfast of muffins, bagels and tea or coffee was all we needed on the day we used it. The location was close to Times Square & subway.
- Austin (8/5): - Friendly staff and the place was pretty clean. The only thing that seemed strange was the gousekeeper was right outside our door each morning, almost as if waiting for us to come out. She’d ask what we needed, almost as if she didn’t want to come in and do a full service like make beds and such. It’s close to the subway which I appreciated.
- jose (10/5): - one of the best hotel to stay
- stefanie (6/5): - The property is in an excellent location and the staff was friendly. The rooms are very outdated and a simple facelift would add a lot to the stay.
- Carol (4/5): - Very small hotel. Rooms so tiny! Clean enough but cost too much for what was given.
- Monserrate (10/5): - It’s a good place
- Thomas (8/5): Nice hotel / hard beds - Clean hotel in the Chelsea neighborhood. Good value. Friendly staff. Beds were definitely on the lower end. Hard as a rock. Everything else was find though.
- Alina Del Carmen (10/5): - Excellent position and area close to the subway to move easily around the city. It's okay for a quick stay in NY.
- Laurence (10/5): - Dated but very clean. Staff very attentive. Good location accessible to everywhere
- Patti (8/5): - Needs some work. Electrical cords all over it.
- Kristen (10/5): - We walked down 7th Ave to the hotel with our suitcases from Penn Station, even though we could've caught the subway #1 going South. We were able to walk to Times Square to catch Broadway shows. A "highlight" was the High Line Trail in Chelsea, not far from the hotel.
The staff was always friendly and helpful. We were able to have a simple breakfast of muffins/bagels and coffee/tea. The hotel felt safe because the police took their morning breaks in the breakfast room.
We had room for two adults and two teenagers-two beds. It was small, but sufficient. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the room was clean.
The air conditioner in the room was a bit loud, but functionable.
- Anne (10/5): - Lovely friendly and polite staff, beds comfortable, lift quick and efficient, continental breakfast choice very good. Clean linens and towels. One of the best places I’ve stayed in NYC.
Tea or coffee making facilities in the room would have been nice but that’s a bit nitpicky since there are many options To get a drink right outside. Would stay again, I’m surprised it’s only a two star hotel.
- George (10/5): - Good
- Kerrie (8/5): - This isn't the place for you if you want quiet. We were on the 5th floor and it's still so noisy from the street.
But its right near the Subway and an easy walk to lots of the places you might visit
- John (8/5): - Great location. We stayed for a week. Room was good, although the decor is a little outdated. Shower head was leaking everywhere, but we managed somehow.
- Jorge (8/5): - Good location, clean room and nice staff
- Richard (10/5): - Basic hotel but very clean and friendly staff. Quiet and clean rooms. Nice area with tables to sit at or to have breakfast. Plentiful bagel/muffins/coffee tea for breakfast and those were still available all morning.
- Chris A. (8/5): - Very difficult to drive to, limited and expensive parking.
- Christine (8/5): - Public transport excellent access. Staff friendly and helpful. Hotel is clean. The rooms are dated but in working order. Bed was old and hard, due for replacement. Breakfast was simple and delicious, bagels, muffins, tea and coffee.
- Al (6/5): - The location to Penn Station and subway is great. Staff was polite and professional. My only disappointment was the mattress, which was old and very worn. Fortunately my stay wasn’t long term.
- Craig (10/5): - Clean room in a great location.
- David (8/5): - Area and location is the best part of the hotel. Bed not so much.
- Rhianne (10/5): - All staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. Free pastry and coffee each morning which is a great start to the day. Well situated beside two subway lines.
- mike (8/5): - I’
- David (10/5): - Enjoyable stay at Chelsea Savoy. Staff were friendly and efficient, lots of shops and subway near hotel and only ten minutes walk away from Penn station.
- Laura (10/5): - Close to subway. Many restaurants and stores in the area. Clean, adequate size, refrigerator in room. Breakfast was included however we did not try it.
- Ahmed (8/5): - Is good only they need to fix bathroom door
- Stacy (6/5): - The hotel was very clean and the staff was incredibly helpful and very friendly. However the hotel is very dated which is fine other than the mattresses. Unfortunately I have a back problem and the mattress is very old and very uncomfortable. Some people may not be affected but if you have any back issues the mattress will cause you harm. I could barely walk while I was there. I probably should have left and got another hotel but there was nothing close that was an affordable option. I ended up rolling towels and getting extra pillows for extra support. The location is great and subway is right next door. I would absolutely go back if it weren't foe the terrible beds.
- Sucel (6/5): - I didn´t like the breakfast, but everything else was OK
- Santos (6/5): - Good for one night!
- Jan (6/5): - Below aver
- Margaret (10/5): - Great breakfast
- Genevieve (8/5): - The staff were friendly from check-in to housekeeping to the breakfast coffee & pastry assistance. Hotel felt safe and was convenient to transportation (even walking to pizza down the block at midnight). Only downs were the 'cleanliness'- room carpets were suss... Bed was like a hard crib mattress on a plank; so think modest and manageable. Would still book again!
- Sun Young (10/5): great place! - Rooms are clean and the bed was oddly super comfortable without any fuss. Staff are super friendly. Low pile carpet floor was very clean. Great location close to train station. Tasty bagels and muffins as complementary breakfast. Very quiet unlike what I first was worried about. Great stay overall!
- Kristin (10/5): - Room was clean.
- Mia (4/5): Hasn't been updated since Nixon was president - From the moment we checked in one boss a older woman was rude abusive and condescending I sat on my bed and my long hair touched the headboard and it was tacky like glue and my hair stuck we covered it with a towel the towel stuck we rang the front desk they sent a non English speaking plumber I rang back they said they would send cleaners they never did
The bathtub drain was rusted the power points n the bathroom next to water were gaping away from the wall
The last day cockroaches came from under the bed and the repair man had left open screw holes with plastic plugs I went down for breakfast that started at eight we went to enter the dining room at five past eight and were yelled at and the door locked and paying guests were not allowed in the dining room but local cops used it as a break room at anytime during the day a dozen cops were seated in there smoking and eating for free
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was fine. Convenient for my trip.
- anne (10/5): - Stayed here to drop off child at FIT, we walked to the school! The rooms are very clean, delicious bagels and coffee included.
They have free ice. Great location-not fancy but was perfect for us.
- Brad (8/5): - Everybody was great but 2 things need attention.
1) Our first night in 502 was like sleeping on the floor. It felt like they forgot to put a mattress on. The staff was very accommodating and gave us one with a comfortable bed. This suprised us because everything is usually good.
2) I’ve never stayed anywhere that you had to wait until 8 am to get coffee. Many of us get up much earlier and coffee is usually out most of the days anywhere else.
Love to see this implemented before our return in a few months.
You asked so I let you know. If you don’t listen it’s on you.
Everything else was great and we’lol come back.
- Benjamin (10/5): - Priced perfectly
- Abigail (8/5): - Everything was really good! I just felt like I was sleeping on cardboard cause the bed kinda sucked. And the mini fridge did smell a little weird when I took my water out of it. Other than that it was clean and in a very good location.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This hotel had great location, with easy access to shops, key landmarks, and public transportation. The check-in and check-out processes were smooth, and the staff were friendly. However, I was disappointed with everything else.
The hotel had good reviews, but it falls short in many aspects. It’s well-outdated, with many things broken. The bathroom was particularly disappointing. It was outdated with a rusty bath tub, and the lack of maintenance was clearly visible. The first room we had had a bath that was a safety hazard, with paint and enamel chipping that could cause cuts and infections. I requested a change, and the second room was a bit better.
Breakfast was also below minimum expectation. We were only given a choice of a cupcake or buns, and coffee or tea. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel.
- Ahlam (6/5): - No hot breakfast. Muffins were nice, but not suitable for breakfast. Spots to eat close by.
- (Belinda) Claire (4/5): - They love to say they have “free breakfast” but it’s gross diner coffee and gross muffins. And they don’t start breakfast until 8am, which is really inconvenient. On one day, the breakfast woman wasn’t ready at 8 because she needed to go upstairs to get her large drink. She came back down at 8:05 and there were about 30 of us waiting to get inside. So yeah, I guess she was the only one that could open the door and stand behind the counter guarding the muffins. Stupid.
- Pablo (8/5): - Good location, breakfast limited but bagels and muffins are good
- GARY (10/5): - Tge hotel is conveniently located to teansportation and attractuons. Its clise to multiple subway lines, the Highline and a mile from Time Square.
- Sujay (10/5): - Decent straightforward hotel for a 2-day work trip
- Penny (10/5): - The staff was pleasant. The breakfast was very minimal. The rooms were clean. The location is great. However, the windows do not help eliminate any of the outside noise. A bit hard to sleep.
- Yuchuan (8/5): - staffs are nice; too noisy!!!
- Mary (6/5): The only good thing is the location. - My single room was basic but in need of updating; chair had a broken piece with a screw sticking out, the a/c worked but was inconsistent, the hot water never quite got "hot," and street noise was so loud i thought the window was open.
The free breakfast consisted of muffins, bagels, coffee and tea.
I was too early for check-in, so while sitting in the lobby planning my day, I had to listen to the woman behind the front desk berate her coworker, yelling at him for a solid 10 minutes about a mistake he made. It was embarrassing and unprofessional.
- Sara (10/5): - Wonderful spot in the heart of Chelsea! Friendly, simple, clean, comfortable. Perfect for our family visit. My only concern was that electrics weren't updated, so not many ports for plugging in devices. But very minor ... would stay again!
- Tahoma (6/5): Mixed feelings - I thought that the staff were plesant and kept the hotel very clean. However the internet did not function well, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. It felt like I was.sleeping on a bed of rocks.
- MARILYN (8/5): - The location is the plus for the Chelsea Savoy. The staff is great, and the basic needs are met here. There are lots of international visitors staying here, and it’s a very interesting place.
- Brianna (8/5): - Good location!
- Anna (6/5): - Conveniently located and more affordable.
- BIRUK (10/5): Thank you for awesome service. Keep it up. - Thank you for the breakfast. Our family enjoyed so much. Please keep it up. We planning to stay in your hotel next year for summer.
- Lee Ann (8/5): - Nice place to stay
- Marianne (6/5): - This hotel is in a great location. The staff, overall, were friendly and very willing to assist. The breakfast was totally carbs but good quality carbs. It needs a serious upgrade. The mattress was HARD. The bathroom mirror was fairly unsightful and there were not enough outlets so there were multiple extension cords throughout the room. The staff told me that they were upgrading the rooms gradually. With an upgrade the place would be great.
- Khushbakht (6/5): - The location is super convenient in terms of taking the subway and having lots of food options around! If you're coming in from Penn Station, it's also a short walk or ride away. The staff was also helpful when I needed to store my luggage for the day.
However, the room is pretty dated and carpet definitely hosts a history of old stains. I had to let the shower run for a bit because originally the water was a strange colour. My room faced the street and I could hear a lot of noise late into the night. There is free coffee and bagels/muffins in the morning, but there's no toaster.
Good for a short trip, but not sure if I would stay here again.
- Andrew (10/5): An excellent experience - We had a wonderful experience during our stay. Eva at the front desk was super accommodating, friendly, and a jokester which made chatting with her a great time. The room was clean and quiet and very convenient to where we needed to be. If we ever have a chance to stay here again we definitely will!
- Joseph (8/5): - It was a nice hotel. Clean and friendly staff. The bed is awful - as you will read in other reviews.
Over all it was a good stay.
- David (8/5): - An honest and clean hotel
- Teguest Guerma (8/5): - The room is very basic no coffee machine no water .i also need to get reimbursed for the wrong booking zi did for 24 and cancelled
- Melissa (10/5): - EVERYTHING! VERY PLEASANT STAY
- Luis (6/5): - The only downside were the mattresses. I had 2 rooms with 2 double beds. Everyone in my group agreed it was difficult to sleep. Mattresses are as hard as the floor. Aside from that, everything else was awesome.
- Lisardo L (8/5): - .
- Meredith (8/5): - Affordable, good value for location. Room was very clean and had a fridge which was nice. I was very impressed with the free breakfast - a great selection of real NYC bagels. Only drawback was that the hot water for bath/shower was inconsistent.
- ruth (6/5): - It’s ok for the price
Breakfast is included but it’s a muffin and oversize bagel with tea or coffee
No Toaster
Location was good
Definitely wouldn’t let you check in before 3pm
- Brad (10/5): - Great place. Excellent location. Friendly staff. Nice surrounding area.
- Keiarra (10/5): - I liked how clean and safe it was
- gina (8/5): - Stayed many times. Never disappointed.
- Amanda (10/5): Great option in Chelsea - Very polite service. We appreciated the bagels and muffins for breakfast. The double room was clean and fairly large.
- Glenice (8/5): - Did not like bathroom towels...very hard
on skin. Didnt like bedding....hard on skin.
Staff provided great customer service. Location was great and breakfast enjoyed. Quiet stay made it perfect for a good nights rest.
- Simon (8/5): - Perfect spot in Manhattan to stay. The staff and service from them all is AMAZING - so accommodating and friendly. The hotel itself is a little dated, but if you don't mind that it's a perfect place to stay for your trip to NYC
- Verified traveler (6/5): Will not stay here again - The room was comfortable, the location of the hotel good EXCEPT it was very noisy and despite having paid $600 for 2 nights we didn’t get much sleep at all (street vendors blasting music until early morning).
The bathroom tub was not draining and the toilet had to be flushed 2 times before emptying.
The breakfast choices very limited but we made it work.
Close to subway stations so that was a plus
- Seth (8/5): - Great area - close to the subway - close to restaurants
- Dean (10/5): - Great location next to a central subway line. Large room, moderate price. Good bagels or muffins and coffee each morning.
