The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast’s spectacular. The best part of the hotel is the people. From the front desk to the restaurant to the laundry facilities, everyone is incredibly friendly and efficient. I have stayed here multiple times with my family and alone, and will keep on coming back. Very good value for money.

Stanley (4/5): - When we booked we asked for a room with bath and they accepted our booking. On arrival we were given a room without a bath and were informed that all rooms had no bath except for 3 in the entire hotel which are booked long in advance- we booked over 6months ago. Hotel looks tired and rooms very small. No toiletries were available in the room. Staff were outwardly friendly but totally matter of fact and not helpful at all. Was not told that parking was included by reception and the porter asked me why I was paying for parking since I was a guest. He directed me to reception where happy to then stamp the parking ticket but were not forthcoming as to why I wasn’t offered the same.
DEBASHISH (10/5): - It is a very decent and comfortable hotel. Location is excellent and near the shopping mall and spa. Security was excellent too. Check in was fast. Room service was good and they allowed a late checkout without extra expenses. We had 6 pieces of luggage and they allowed all to be stored in their luggage room, after checkout. The restaurant in the premises was excellent and overall the hotel was very good value for money.

The manager, Lesedi, immediately intervened, apologized and offered a voucher for a milkshake. While small it was a nice gesture and he took responsibility. Our room was ready 10 min later. Actually there was also no shelf in the bathroom to put our cosmetics and we had to leave our cosmetics on the floor.

The reception takes long to check you in, the rooms are basic and have nothing great about it. Small tv with little choice of channels. The bathroom is not private and if two friends or business partners are sharing a twin room it would be very uncomfortable. The restaurant was horrendous. I was served cold food after waiting for almost two hours. When I enquired I was told it was because the had a party.

Red (10/5): - Excellent location. Very very safe. Easy to get to other parts of Joburg via Uber. Staff very nice and helpful! A lot of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Great price as well! The only thing I didn’t love was that the shower wasn’t enclosed. It was an extension of the bedroom and separated by a hanging curtain. So after each shower the room would be really steamy and wet. But once we opened a window it was better. Not a big issue. You should definitely book here!!

We were not informed that we had to produce our room cards at the.door after 10pm. This was also inconsistently applied.

Louis (8/5): - The Protea Fire and Ice Hotel in Melrose Arch is probably one of the best places for an overnight stay in Johannesburg. It is stylish, happening and in the midst of the Melrose Arch area giving you many options for dining, drinking, and shopping. The hotel caters to a wide variety of South African and international visitors so the hotel bar is always a lively and interesting place to be. The staff are competent, very helpful and I have to say quite wonderful (and even a bit funny). I'll be staying there when I pass through Joburg for years to come.

Antonio (10/5): Antonio - The stay and service was good. Staff was pleasant to deal with and the hotel is well located within the Melrose Arch area. The food at the hotel was good. The only drawback was the slow speed of the wifi.
