Please feel free to ask our friendly staff upon arrival if you need assistance. You must show a valid photo ID and credit card upon check in. This credit card and photo ID must be in the same name as the guest's name on the booking confirmation. If the booking has been made in a different name to the guest’s name on arrival, an authorization form will need to be completed. Please note that there is a nonrefundable 2.0% credit card fee when you pay with a Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club, JCB or UnionPay credit card. Early check in is available for an additional AUD $30.00 (subject to room availability after 10.00am). Late Check Out is available for an additional AUD $35.00 (until 1 pm). Please notify reception by 10:00 am on your check out date if you require a late check out. Please note the covered parking has a height restriction of 5.9 feet. Please note that this property has a strict 'No Party Policy'. Failure to comply with property policies may result in the eviction of guests and the loss of any deposits or payments made. brulox (8/5): Great Location and Always Meets Expectations - We often stay at the Great Southern so everything was as expected. We did miss out on having the breakfast as had a very early departure back home the morning we left but very happy to continue to stay here.

REBECCA (3/5): I have no idea how the rooms are given a 4 star rating at all . Only positive was the location proximity to trams - Location Very low to the ground bed - didn’t even come up to my knees. Hard mattress with an old brown fleece blanket , room dark and smelly. No chair to sit on . There was a tiny old brown table in the room and an old brown cabinet which had the kettle on it. Milk for the tea in fridge was off - hard to get a small thing of milk that’s off !! Cabinet very old and scratched. Very noisy between the rooms.

Every day we had a pile of dirty linen (not from our room) left outside our room. And twice (in 4 days) we had to ask for it to be removed. The breakfast was quite basic, no gluten free or dairy free choices.

Bruce (7/5): We usually stay at the Ultimo if having a weekend in Sydney, but found the GSH great - Great value for a short stay in a central location. Bistro and Bar reasonably priced with pleasant staff. Pillows were like rocks. Bathroom clean and well maintained but a bit small if your on the large size. If we stay again I would probably upgrade the room.

Paint chipping all over the halls, dirt grime and smell. Pipes continued to rattle so loud all night on and of every 10-30 min that kept waking us up. Staff are useless and do not care. Called reception several times and told oh well must be something from next door at 11 pm lol

Evelyn (9/5): Clean, friendly and Location location location at a great price - The hotel is situated in a very convenient area. A minutes walk to the Haymarket light rail and a few more minutes to Central Station. There are so many options to eat right outside the hotel and the back entrance is directly opposite Paddys markets. Very handy to buy your fruit and veg. My husband is quite tall, so the bed was probably on the small side for us as a couple. Next time I would order two single beds. Not a huge problem as the general vibe of the place more than made up for that.

The steak I ordered for dinner was probably the best steak I've had in years. Didn't even need the gravy. Only thing that was, for me, the air-conditioning decided to turn itself off every couple of hours. The pillows were either too hard or too soft and thin.

Shabby, grubby - not very clean. Overpriced. Only went there because of proximity to railway station. Will stay somewhere else next time and uber to a better hotel for a better price. I know this is a heritage hotel but a lot more could be made of that (the heritage aspect), and it could have been a lot cleaner - the shower was horrid! Also wifi was dodgy.
