- Yuzuki (10/5): - First off, the location is super convenient! It’s located right outside of one of the station exits. Check-in and out is also very easy. One of the best things was, you can leave your luggage not only before check-in time but also after check-out (on the day of check out). It saves your time to hustle looking for lockers at the station. Room was not too big but decent for a hotel at the center of the city. Also you can choose their panda themed decorated rooms which seem to be more family friendly. Breakfast was great, staff are all nice as well:)

- Steve (6/5): - Wasn’t a very good value. For the price we pay we expected a little better room. Very small room. Could’ve been cleaner. Found trash from the previous occupant.
- Michelle (10/5): - The pillows were not comfortable and sleep was disturbed because of this issue. Also the room needed vacuuming- there were store tag clippings all over the floor from the previous occupants. Finally the small table in the room needed a top to bottom wipe down.

I also wanted to see what staying in Ueno is like. My conclusion-I would probably never stay in this hotel or in Ueno again. Don't get me wrong. Ueno is very convenient and is a super vibrant area, but it just felt cheap and chaotic. The Amekoko area at night was super packed with so many Asian tourists and it didn't feel like I was in Japan. Back to the hotel. I booked an 18m2 double room and I thought it would be an adequate size for one, but because of a small window, the room felt almost claustrophobic. Bathroom is a small unit bath as well, which I dislike! The location is not bad but to get to anywhere, you need to use this gigantic pedestrian bridge and at the majority of bridge entrances, there are only stairs. So beware if you have a large luggage. There is nothing special or outstanding about this hotel and the rate was 30,000+, too much for what you get. The only positive was very polite and efficient cleaning staff.

- DESMOND (10/5): - Only 3 things needs improvement. 1) Toilet ventilation - The ventilation is very weak; the toilet floor and dri-fit clothes were still wet even after a night has passed. 2) Pillows - Pillows were half cotton and half beads, which makes it very uncomfortable to hug/lie on. 3) Lifts were awfully slow. There are only 2 lifts for 14 floors so be prepared to wait about 10 minutes. You can't use the stairs either because there is no exit at ground floor except for staff. Other than the above, the rest were excellent. Staff was very helpful and attentive. Complimentary water every day. Bed was clean (a little hard but that is just personal preference). Charging cables were provided (not the fast-charge kind). Quite a few hangers were available. Hairdryer was strong!
- samfQ6335BT (4/5): Save your money, it's not worth it - Save your money! The Mitsui Garden Hotel in Ueno is daylight robbery. The hotel skimps on amenities, offers poorly designed rooms and a terrible layout, and charges you way more than better, budget-level hotels. Only perk here is the central location, but it's far from the only hotel near the Ueno train station. Starting with the rooms, the beds are hideously uncomfortable, and poor design means it's a hassle to get in and out of it every day if you're sleeping with somebody. Furthermore, the rooms might be bigger than your average budget hotel, but they offer nearly zero storage space. You get one small drawer in the desk, some space under said desk, and the closet where you can hang 5 dresses or shirts. That's it. There's nowhere to put your clothes or your luggage, so if you're here for longer than 2 days, you'll wish you'd gotten a different hotel. The amenities on offer are quite poor, too. The hotel offers "free WiFi," but only in your room and the lobby, and that signal is super weak and unreliable, often disconnecting if you're too far from the router (which can even happen in the same room!). The washing and dryer machines don't fully dry your clothes, and there's nowhere in the laundry rooms to put another person's clothes if they finish their drying cycle but haven't returned to claim them. The elevators are a pain, too, often taking minutes to arrive and requiring a keycard to go anywhere. And there's not even an onsen!! Please please please pick another hotel.

But the the hotel did a good job of cleaning our room and providing fresh towels throughout the rest of our stay. There were also days when the carpet in the elevator needed vacuuming, but we understand that the hotel was also very busy with guests coming and going all day long.

There is a pedestrian flyover to get from train station to hotel. Access is not obvious. Nice cafe for breakfast just a short distance towards underground passage for station.

It doesn't get any better than this. The area around the hotel is quiet. There are several streets with various local restaurants and bars just 5 minutes away. If you're not into Michelin-starred restaurants with white tablecloths, you'll find something here. Just try it out. We had a room with 20 square metres. Room was clean and quiet despite being close to the lift. Box spring bed. Shower was good. Fridge with 2 bottles of water was refilled daily. Filter coffee in the room free of charge. Windows can be opened.

I've stayed in many places in the area over the years and I think this is the most convenient. But that comes with a busy and small loby and and an often clogged building enterance with docile tourists. Would love a traditional check-in.

It is oddly designed with big desk around window and non factional big side table next to one side of the bed. The another side of bed is against the wall which is okay for one person. But for two people it is very difficult to get out. And there are no drawers at all. You just have to put everything on the huge table. The room is too small to open a mid sized suitcase. The bathroom is very nice though.

- TYYL (6/5): Never Again - Receptionists are not very friendly and welcoming,except for a trainee young lady. The rest looked serious and unwelcoming. Booked this hotel as it was advertised as renovated in 2023. But it doesn't seem very new to me. Hairs were found on carpet and bedside table upon n check in. However proactive measures were taken where they immediately changed room for us. The last day was the most disappointing one. We had 4 luggages with us and we asked the Receptionist for a bottle of mineral water which she declined to give. I said i will pay for it but she told me to get it from the convenient store instead. (To the management of Mitsui Ueno, i would have gotten fr convenient store if i didn't have 4 lugagges with me.) After much persistence, the unfriendly Receptionist took a palstic bag and sneakily passed me a bottle of mineral water. What a weird and stingy gesture. Shinjuku Groove hotel gave me 2 cold bottles of the same brand mineral water before we left the lobby and asked if we wanted more.
- feizhu (8/5): Great hotel in Ueno but can be a tad pricey - Pros - 1) Conveniently located minutes away from Ueno Station and tons of food and shopping options close by. 2) Rooms are relatively sizable by Tokyo standards and clean. 3) Service is polite and the staff can speak adequate English. Cons - 1) There are only three washer/dryer combo machines in the entire hotel (3F, 8F & 13F). Each wash/dry cycle takes 2 hours so you need to do your laundry at odd hours to get a better shot at the machines.

The area around the station on this side is nothing special, but you can easily get to other parts of Tokyo from here and it is convenient to Narita via the Skyliner. While everything in the hotel worked, everything also felt a little below par. Our room was small and unlike the other three hotels on this trip had no "eco-friendly" cleaning option. The hotel breakfast was OK, but served in a cramped space that occasionally generated queues. Staff were very good with adequate English.

Here's my lowdown: What I Like: - Nice location. It's near the Keisei Ueno station, the Shinkansen, and the JR, Ginza, and Hibiya lines so it's a great base. It's just across a convenience store to satiate those late night cravings. There are also some good shopping (Ameyoko, Marui, Yodabashi camera, Muji, Don Quixote) and OK restaurants (Atre, eCute, Ichiran) in the area. Plus Ueno park is a great place to just walk around. - The room is slightly bigger than some Japan business hotels (I stayed at Hotel Ryumeikan at Yaesu in 2019). - Room's air conditioning is awesome. We love cold rooms and this hotel delivered! - There's a microwave and a vending machine on our floor! We love buying lots of food from the various stalls inside the Ueno station, taking it to the hotel, and trying them out. Having a microwave is awesome! - The staff are gracious and polite. They didn't fail to greet us when we meet them along the corridors or leave and enter the hotel. - They leave the day's supplies outside our door. We're still wary of letting people inside our room and having it "contaminated", but they made it work by leaving the day's supplies of bottled water, towels, coffee, tea, pajamas, slippers, and even trash bags in a nice bag outside our door. What I Don't Like: - Room is small. Even if I mentioned that the room is slightly bigger, it is still small especially by western standards. There's an option for a bigger one that I should've booked instead. - Pillows. They have the Japanese-style pillows that are stuffed with buckwheat and not those big, fluffy ones. We had to ask for extra pillows just to get the right neck support we're used to.

- sk248 (8/5): Conveniently located new refurbished hotel - It was easy to locate this hotel after exiting Ueno station. We booked the 20 sm room, it was modern and refurbished , but not very spacious. Rate paid was high but that is attributable to it's central location near the station. Check in was via machines, very efficient, with the staff standing by to help if needed. We were impressed by the staff service . They helped us forward our luggage to our next hotel and not only called them in advance of the delivery but also called them on their own initiative when we requested them to help us track online the delivery status after 2 days. If you need a clean modern room, next to station, I would recommend this hotel. Landry room with dryer/washer was useful too. Shopping street is also nearby.

- dho615 (10/5): Prime location - The hotel is located near to Ueno station which is convenient for me to access to different areas with all the main JR/ Metro line. It is less crowded comparing to Shinjuku and within 15 minutes I can be at Asakusa , Ginza , Skytree. The room I stayed is a Deluxe room which is slightly bigger than the normal room, the simple design of the bedroom is very comfortable for my mother and I. The couch is very versatile. Love the carpet and furniture in the bedroom which are renovated. However, one point to improve is the cleanliness. The carpet can find little debris from clearly previous guest. Also the wall tiles and corners of the bathtub wall edges are seen with yellow and black stains ( sorry I am from the industry too). Please watch out the little essential details for a better quality in bathroom. I didn’t took a bath due to this imperfection.

- JohnroFlorida (10/5): Super Convenient - Nice Stay - Stayed at this hotel last week. Picked the hotel as it was close to the Ueno Station. If taking the Skyliner in from Narita Airport this hotel is super easy to get to. Hotel staff were excellent and always greeted me when returning throughout the day. Room was smaller which is typical of large cities. Room was well organized and made good use of the space that was available. Loved the bathrobes and the counter where extra things you may need such as toothbrush, clothes, etc were made available. I’d definitely choose this hotel again when visiting Tokyo.

Breakfasts,OK, range of foods but no variation from day to day. Beds comfortable. Great pillows. (Wish we had the pillows at home). Note on the staff. All our interactions with the staff were 5 star - helpful and friendly - just not a fan of the electronic checkin etc

- HLW648 (6/5): Good stay, but a barely adequate breakfast and no place to sit in the lobby - As others have said, great location. Room was small but very comfortable. Staff very kind and helpful in all situations. Here are the problems which cause me to rate them lower than 4 or 5 stars: 1. There is no lobby to speak of. There is a place to check in, Stored baggage takes up 1/3 of the room. There are NO PLACES TO SIT. If you are meeting someone in the lobby you just have to stand around amid the stored luggage. This is not a lobby that invites one to sit, read or converse as in most hotels. I found it quite offputting. 2. The restaurant is also where breakfast is served. While the food itself wasn’t terrible, all of the “hot” dishes were room temperature. We even tried coming at the opening time and everything cooked was still cold. The bread and pastries were barely passable and they served only margarine NO BUTTER! The surprise is that this same restaurant served a fabulous dinner. We had to make reservations a day in advance even though the check in person said there was not need. We enjoyed the soft shelled crab, salad and garlic bread and the ice cream for dessert was quite nice too.

- WeHeartHawaii (6/5): Frustrated with the current set up here in terms of accommodating the higher occupancy rate. - I’ve been coming to Mitsui the last several visits I’ve had to Japan. This is my fourth stay here but it’s starting to feel like my last. Don’t get me wrong, the location and the individual service of the workers are fantastic. It’s conveniently located next to Ueno Station and Ameyoko. But over the last 5 years that I’ve been coming here it’s getting increasingly crowded at this hotel. Great or them but the volume of foreign tourist here in terms of a commuter hotel vs. a destination hotel are now a bit off. What I mean by this is that now that the hotel has a higher occupancy, you have to wait longer for an elevator since there is only two in service. The smaller lobby is littered with guest trying to check in and when they have group check ins/check-outs, it fills this entire smaller lobby. What’s even more frustrating is that for a fully booked hotel, they have only one washer/dryer room and with only 2 washer and dryers to service this entire hotel of non-local guests. This means I have been trying to get to a washer since 8pm today and it’s already 11. There are some inconsiderate guests who leave their clothes in the washer and b/c it’s a lock system you just have to wait and who wants to wait at the room knowing no end date? And then when you try to go back someone else lucked out and jumped in front of you. Very frustrating, wish the management would consider adding more washer/dryer rooms with more foreign tourist. I think it was bad enough tonight that other people complained and the on-site staff had to get involved and manually unlocked the washing machine to get others into the room.
