Guest Reviews
- Daniela (10/5): - I’m loving my stay!!! They have been so kind and caring!!! Especially after 2 days of nonstop travel.
- Andrew (6/5): - average apartment with limited cooking facilities
- Claudio (2/5): Mala experiencia.
- Lauren (4/5): - Do not believe the photos attached to this listing!! They must be from when the hotel was new, because my room (& the hotel in general) definitely did not look like the pictures that I looked at before booking. If they were accurate, I probably wouldn't have booked here. This is definitely not what I would class as a 4* hotel (as they claim on their website).
While there is a kitchenette, there's a sign above it saying it's only to be used to reheat food, not cook. The refrigerator didn't work well at all. The hot water in the shower was barely what I would call warm. None of the reception staff I dealt with over numerous days spoke English (which I wouldn't care about normally, but it's one of the claims made on the listing page). The only good thing I can come up with is it was relatively inexpensive, the bed was comfortable and it was within walking distance of a number of areas/attractions. If all you need is a bed for the night, this is your place, but if you're looking for something a little more, look elsewhere.
- Otávio (4/5): - Hotel mediano. Velho.
- Ruben (6/5): - I really I can tell nothing because I never make the trip I never been there I wish I can tell you for good or bad but I never got the chance of travel
- 592guanh (2/5): House of horror - I usually try to find the most positive thing about a lodging but for this place...3 words. Dilapidated, Abandoned and Condemned. The pictures may have shown what it nay have look like 20 yrs ago... but aging wear & tear took its toll and the lack of maintenance nor the effor and pridet to run this establishment is appalling. Broken lights, scums on wall, broken elevator, rotting door... the list goes on. You have been warned.... luckily, we as a couple was managed to laugh it off as a Horror Hotel mishap and added memories..albiet unpleasant ones...to our gallivanting. ...deal breaker... wifi advertised is available...yes only in the lobby space.... a very weak wifi.
- amandalarg (2/5): Awful - Awful hotel experience from start to finish.
We arrived late at night and were given a room on the first floor which was really unsuitable for a four star property. There were two big black mould stains on the bathroom ceiling and the room was full of drain flies as a consequence. To add insult to injury, there was chewing gum stuck to the bathroom floor, stains on the sheets and, incredibly, bogeys stuck to the bedroom wall.
We went to reception to ask for a room change, but were met with absolute disinterest on the night receptionist's behalf and were told they were full. An hour later he called us in our room and offered to move us to a room on the third floor, which we did.
The following morning we had a shower only to discover that the shower was broken and only piping hot water came out of the shower head - VERY hot water. Water too hot to shower with. We informed the receptionist who told us he would send the maintenance guys up during the day to fix it.
When we got back to the hotel in the afternoon, we saw that nothing had been done and the shower was exactly as we'd left it.
We went back to reception to explain the problem, but by that time, the maintenance team had gone home. The (this time very nice) receptionist came up to the room to check the problem for herself, and agreed it was not possible to shower there. She offered us yet another room change.
The new room was ok, but even without the mould, chewing gum, bogeys and faulty shower, the aircon remote wouldn’t work, and neither would the TV.
The following day we decided to cut our stay at this hotel short and checked out with two outstanding nights to our booking.
Also, breakfast was shockingly bad.
- giessenjo (6/5): trip buenos Aires - The Monserrat Hotel is a medium range hotel. it is close to centre , about 1.3 km from Plaza De Mayo. it is on walking distance from most sites. The hotel is reasonable price and reasonable quality , although furniture is not modern.
The personnel is very good. The hotel has spacious rooms with airco, and a safe. The bathroom is spacious. The hotel is ok quality for the money. Furniture can be modernised.
- jogV2632EH (6/5): brief sightseeing Buenos A - monserrat is a good hotel and reasonable price. the furniture is ok but not modern. the breakfast is healthy and adequate. it is good for tourists and family. the staff is very friendly. good for people with medium budget. 1.3 km from plaza de mayo. walking distance centre.
- Gaston (2/5): NO VAYAN - Un desastre TODO.
- Tiago (10/5): Muy buen hotel recomendable.
Chegamos a ver duas baratas no local.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Não vale a pena...
- Vivi (6/5): - Las habitaciones amplias y equipadas.
- Yesie03 (2/5): Awful stay, not a 4 star service as promised. - I have booked 2 rooms for my partner and me, and my best friend and her partner to stay for a night while visiting Buenos Aires, as it looked fabulous in the photos! and as my friend is pregnant, I thought it'd be great to use the spa facilities. I was welcomed by a male receptionist who was nothing but rude and full of himself when giving answers, and given me the wrong type of bedroom, but got past that and just gone to my room. Towels looked like rags, there was a space for a hair dryer but none there, and all looked really cheap. WiFi didn't work properly. Then we went to use the pool and spa area only for it to be cancelled with a DANGER tape and made it look like a crime scene! so I complaint about this and there was no answer from them and just kept blaming the company I booked this through (at least a young girl was trying to help, it felt like she was embarrassed about the whole situation if I'm honest. In the morning, breakfast was DISGUSTING. Toasters broken, awful coffee, everything looked really unhygienic and only 3 pastries were left (and they tasted like they were from the day before, so I had a bite and left them!!) It looks like they just want to get the place closed or something as it was truly awful!!!! stay away if you can.
- 007Zelda (2/5): Stay Away - G 20 caused this stay. Room with a foul damp odor. Towels were like rags. Continental breakfast with old coffee. Fruit rotted. Receptionist was less than friendly. I feel like I was taken advantage because of G20. Overcharged! Pool was unavailable to even view.
- mfeliu1 (2/5): Doesn’t care about guests STAY AWAY - Arrived early. Called and asked the hotel if check is could be possible at 9 am. That was the time advertised. Arrived to a rude front desk who ignored us and told us check in was at 3pm. That’s almost 9 hours of waiting after already calling to confirm. Not sure why this hotel even has 3 stars. It’s one thing to arrive and demand something. Called confirmed and was just shun away.
- LUZ (4/5): NOT Recommended - Hotel in poor conditions. WIFI never worked while our stay. bedsheets were old and had wholes
- Martin (6/5): Ok low budget. You get what you pay - The neighbourhood isn't the best. Internet didn't work on room and they didn't try to fix during weekend. Continental breakfast was very simple.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable and Good Wifi - It's my second time staying in this hotel...Wifi much better than before...Very good Service..Whatever requests we made were immediately taken care of...All the rooms are very spacious and fully carpeted with a kitchenette...Compared to other hotels you really get much more than what you pay for....On the negative side, Breakfast menu needs to be upgraded, carpets were clean but could be improved with some washing and scrubbing, Swimming pool only opens at 11:00 and closes too early at night due to it been part of the Gym and spa
- Jacqueline (4/5): Wouldn't recommend, a disappointment. - Payed less to stay in hostels and everything in them was better than here. I don't usually give bad reviews but for the price I think it needs one. All of the sheets/towels had stains, the shower was a dribble, the toilet was barely attached to the wall and there was no wifi in my room. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend, I was excited to stay here for the start of my trip as the recommendations appeared good but everything wasn't to standard.
A limpeza diaria do quarto deixava muito a desejar.
- javier (8/5): Excelent staff and facilities - Excellent staff and facilities, rooms are excelent, clean and very beautiful and very weel locsted in Buenos Aires.
Breakfast is ok, but is can be improved, little limited options.
Overall excellent
- Keith (6/5): Hotel location great but hotel is very run down - Hotel location is very easy to find and has a few shops around to get food and drink. Check-in was very quick. The room however was very poor and is run down. The ceiling had a lot of damp with breaks in. The room wasn't the cleanest and there were a lot of stain marks on the bed and a lot of dust and rubbish under the bed and sofa. The air-con didn't work very well but luckily it wasn't too hotel. We mainly booked the room as it is listed as being an apartment based however this is somewhat untrue. There were no cooking equipment or even tea / coffee sets. There is a small work area with sauna / steam / pool and jacuzzi but we were told that we had to pay to use these services. (even though the are listed on the hotel listing) Breakfast was ok but was very limited to what was there. But overall ok.
- Ontario55 (6/5): Worth it for the price and location if you can overlook its flaws - Compared to its immediate surroundings -- some beautiful buildings and some as decrepit as those you'd see in Old Havana -- the Monserrat Hotel looks modern, though it doesn't appear to be aging well. For instance, torn sheets on our king-size bed were never changed the whole time we were there (5 nights).
Within minutes of entering our hotel room we encountered a baby cockroach. This one was just the first of a series, which became a daily occurrence. Most weren't babies! The moldy in-room fridge appeared to be their favourite hiding place.
When checking out we showed the person in reception a squashed "mother" cockroach, which we had kept wrapped in a napkin since the day after we arrived. Housekeeping hadn't noticed! Basically the clerk's reaction -- Yeah, it's a bug. So what? -- wasn't what it would've been at a more expensive hotel.
Each morning we ate a simple buffet breakfast in the hotel lobby, included in our room rate. After breakfast we'd hit the streets. Walking around the Monserrat neighbourhood felt a lot like being in a Spanish version of a grubby New York City.
Several blocks of once-beautiful black-and-white-tiled sidewalks were cracked and crumbling. Dog poop posed another hazard, so you had to be careful where you stepped to avoid an accident.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was good larger room... ac needs to have more control
- HayyleyyC (6/5): Pay budget, get budget - Get what you pay for at this hotel. Simple rooms with run down bathrooms. Kitchen had one spoon utensil only. Not as modern as the pictures make it out to be. Close to some good restaurants. 30min walk to centre of town and close to San Telmo. Difficult to communicate with front desk as they don't speak much English/werent overly helpful.
- Verified traveler (2/5): very bad experience, bad service, bad internet - very bad experience, bad service, bad internet, bad location
- RandySpence (8/5): A very good value… - It's not a "4 star" hotel, but the staff was incredibly friendly. The rooms are fairly basic, but clean. The internet is very slow and kicks you off line regularly. But, the price is excellent for the value, and the staff is extremely cordial.
- ColombiaJuanSe (6/5): Just average... Nothing special - I visited this hotel with a group of 20 people from a national sports team and I understand that it's not easy to handle Big groups. The rooms are spacious and comfortable but most of them need an upgrade, especially in their furniture.
We stayed for about 10 days and my biggest complaint would be on the food service and quality. On the good side it's location is fairly good and Front desk service is actually better than the rest.
I'm sure there are better options downtown, which I have personally experienced
- Marianne (8/5): Quite good. - pros
comfy bed
big, clean room
good breakfast - tostadas, facturas, cereal, coffee
helpful receptionists
cons
frustratingly slow, temperamental wifi
my corridor sometimes smelled of cigarettes
- Tallpaul79 (4/5): Only stay here if really have to - I'm not a fan of posting negative reviews but this hotel is anything but a 4 star hotel. It does have very friendly and helpful staff but the hotel doesn't look like the pics in my opinion, the bed in our room was stained, the bathroom was dirty, the WiFi didn't work unless in reception and every room appears to look the same eg no superior rooms available. If you are looking for 4 star hotel please look elsewhere.
- Donald Seth (2/5): - My stay was terrible,
The AC unit leaked on the floor the entire time filled up the garbage can and made a huge puddle in the carpet
The front window would not close all the way and the street Noise thus came in super loud.
The hot water didn't work the first day
The wifi never worked In our room.
We complained multiple times and the staff seemed un bothered
- Susan (6/5): Spend a few more dollars and head to Palermo - Unhelpful desk clerks; unresponsive to a broken window, cold water (shower), spotty wifi. The two queen beds are actually two twins. The luxury pillowtop mattresses are had and flat. The pillows are hard. Nothing to do or see in this section of town.
- josifj1983 (8/5): Good hotel in central B.Aires - Hotel was nice, good location in Buenos Aires. Rooms are comfortable and cleaned on regular basis. Internet connection in the room was weak, kitchenette was fully equipped. Breakfast was modest (mostly sweet pastry, nothing else). However, the price I paid was good, and I don't regret staying in Monserrat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A good value for money stay - Stayed in Jan 2016 for two weeks leisure break.
Positives
very comfortable bed
kitchenette with fridge, kettle, and microwave
spacious room with good air conditioning (it was v.hot in January)
daily housekeeping
helpful reception staff
came across very few mosquitoes
Metro stop is about 5 - 6 mins walk away.
couple of good restaurants nearby
pharmacy and supermarket about 2 mins walk away.
Spa facilities
negatives
not the best location in Buenos Aires, but seemed fairly safe
breakfast is basic - cornflakes, toast, tea, coffee, bananas and apples. But as an aparthotel you can take your own stuff to eat at breakfast
overall
It was a good value for money stay. Would not rule it out for a return stay
- Camilo Ernesto (8/5): Good Hotel, helpful staff. - I had a great stay. Not so close, not so far from the obleisque it was conveniently located for the price. I would like to make a special metion to the guys at reception who were always very helpful during the 8 days spent in Buenos Aires.
- Chris (4/5): You get what you pay for... - The room size was quite good, but the room needed some upkeep, in terms of painting, patching of marks and dents on the walls, etc. The hotel did not have hot water for the first 36 hours of my stay, and there was never any sort of apology or concession that this was unacceptable. The TV remote did not work, and the TV was just standard definition, even though it was a flat screen. The breakfast was the same every morning, which is typical for this type of hotel. The hotel is in a transition neighborhood between good real estate and shadier parts of town. I did not visit the pool or the workout room. The staff person helped me arrange to get a good ride to the airport. In my four-night stay, I could never get a fresh towel, despite my attempts.
- Verified traveler (8/5): My First Experience in Buenos Aires - Same breakfast every day, bread.
Shower safety bar broken
Not told about phone charges prior
Not a four star hotel
But it was good as a whole and we are going back.
- Justin (8/5): Very nice hotel - The hotel was clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. The breakfast was good, they provided cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt, coffee and juice.
- Francisco (4/5): A nightmare - Terrible. The cleaning was awful. The internet was a nightmare, very slow. I lost some stuff from the room and nobody gave me an answer. I asked to talk to the manager, and I was not allowed they didn't even let me have the manager's email to express my concern.
The parking is terrible.
- boom (8/5): nice enough hotel - the hotel is nice, close to local amenities etc although it is in a busy street but you cant hear any noise from inside your room. the bed was super comfy a large super king so if your looking to get a good nights sleep after a long flight then the beds will do the trick. there is a indoor pool which is nice but could be such much more, there is no showers at the pool to shower before you enter the pool or when you leave which is essential due to hygiene. the hot tub/Jacuzzi wasn't running at all shame really as it would make the experience much better and make the hotel more attractive for others to book. the wifi was awful didn't work most days and when it did it was so slow you just gave up trying this was shared with nearly all the guests there. also reading reviews by others the wifi issue comes up as the most let down so it really needs to be fixed completely as its letting the hotel down. breakfast was great really nice and a lot of choice. overall it was a pleasant stay and would recommend if you wanted a couple of days rest in a comfy bed/room
- jen (6/5): They can step it up And I would reccomended - Our 1st front desk attendant was unhelpful and unfriendly. Eduardo, I'm not sure what his title is, saved out stay by being super helpful and patient and taking the time to repeat himself when we didn't understand. He got our room changes when the TV didn't work. AND got the WIFI to connect in the room.
- gladys (6/5): It is an OK hotel - The staff was nice. Specially Mariana, she was very helpful and gave us very good tips and info. The Room ok but not well cleaned. The bathroom really ugly we had to ask for xtra paper and towels. The worry was The area a terrible neighborhood, dirty and not in San TELMO as advertised we did not want to walk in The area
- Alexander (10/5): Overall a plus - Pros: Mostly clean and efficient. Close to the center. Same distance to Recoleta as Boca. Friendly staff.
Cons: Salta is a noisy street and the Air Conditioner was weak.
- E H (6/5): More hotel than apartment - Good room, good location, but a few things let it down for me. No kitchen equipment other than random numbers of each kind of cutlery and crockery, despite it having a cook top. I asked on two occasions for a sharp knife and an pot to cook with, nothing was provided. I was also told cooking in the room was not permitted. Microwave didn't work. No wine glasses. Pool was dirty and restaurant was not operating during my stay. Positives were that a free breakfast was provided (unexpected), I was given an adapter plug when I checked in for use during my stay and reception staff were great and helpful on things to do on check-in and in printing a boarding pass.
- thomas (10/5): Worth a visit - Reception staff were very helpful and friendly!Room clean and comfortable and good location for San Telmo and La Boca.
- Ed (6/5): Ok for the price - - Hotel was clean but simple
- Staff was helpful to a certain point
- Hotel only has WiFi AP's on certain floors, if you get a floor that doesn't have a WIFI AP, your internet will s**k, this changes your stay
- Its located in an 'ok' part, not much to do that area (restaurants, shopping, etc)
- Subway station not in walking distance
- Mika (8/5): Nice apart hotel - The hotel in a good location , clean rooms , good King beds ,clean bath ,good breakfast , didn't find a space in the hotel parking but they offer me a surcharge parking one block from the hotel open 24 hours , for a family I would back again .air condition make noisy .
- euromixed (6/5): TRENDY BUT NO CLASSY! JUST TRYING... - REALLY OLD FURNITURE IN THE ROOMS, LOOK REALLY OLD.
- Martynl (8/5): In central Buenos Aires - We enjoyed our stay in this hotel in February 2014. The hotel is in a central location but the streets outside look very poor and badly maintained. Although the hotel is only a few years old it was showings signs of needing some maintenance. However overall our stay was fine and we were well catered for.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ultra comfy bed - Room was perfect for our needs - we had a triple room as are travelling with our toddler. Note it is in montserrat, not st telmo per se ... but it suited us to be on the fringe of the hubbub for these 4 days and the area is safe and calm. It was a good sized hotel room with aircon (a must in a high rise in BA summer). Whilst there is a microwave, fridge and sink there is no hot plate in the kitchenette. We didn't need it as so many great italian and spanish restaurants nearby, but just managing expectations of kitchenette. We all thought the beds extremely comfy and appreciated the sleep in that the thick blind afforded us jet lagged souls. Staff were helpful though the desk folk changed seemingly daily. We would definitely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel but could do better - We were at this hotel in November with our two-year old and we enjoyed our stay overall. It is close to downtown and there are plenty of place to eat around this hotel.
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. They helped us with booking the shows, calling taxis etc.
The room had good comfort but it was missing some basic things that are not even expensive. Having a mirror in the room would be tremendously helpful. Bathroom was the place that had a mirror. Bathroom door wouldn't lock which could be an issue with a small kid.
The view from the hotel was ok but you probably won't get any better view in that area.
The breakfast was so-so and the staff serving the breakfast were unhelpful. One of the rare places in Argentina that was less friendly for kids.
Overall our stay was quite good though.
- Verified traveler (6/5): The only worthy recommend is the swimming pool - The district is dangerous. Facilities...so so. For sure it is not four star hotel.
- JD (8/5): Same-Sex Marriage in Argentina - The staff made all the difference during the six days my partner and I stayed at this hotel. This wasn't the first time we had booked reservations through them. The staff cooperated during all of the process when we had to validate we were "living" there for the legal required amount of time Argentina's laws established. We will return.
