Guest Reviews
- AndyJMcC (8/5): Comfortable and Convenient First-Class Capsule Stay - I recently stayed in a first-class capsule at this property and was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was. I was able to bring my luggage right into the capsule, which made settling in much easier than expected. The bed was generously sized and the mattress quite comfortable—perfect for relaxing after a long day.
While the capsule itself was great, I did find that the TV only had Japanese channels, which may be a limitation for non-Japanese speakers. Also, the main room houses several air conditioning units, and because of the sliding door design, the noise from them is constant. I’d recommend bringing earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones if you’re a light sleeper.
The location is a major plus—directly above Namba Metro station, making it super convenient for getting around Osaka. The on-site onsen was a welcome luxury after spending two full days at Expo.
All in all, for a budget-friendly stay where I was mainly just sleeping in the capsule, this place met all my needs. A solid choice for solo travelers looking for comfort, convenience, and a bit of relaxation without breaking the bank.
- Emilio (10/5): - Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Would recommend to anyone.
It's also conveniently right next to Namba station and even has an elevator that goes from the subway level to the building so you don't have to pull your luggage up the stairs.
- Luke (10/5): - This place was incredible. Loved the bath and very comfortable beds.
- CHIH HSUAN (10/5): - 經濟實惠,無可挑剔 👍👍👍
- Nicole (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff was very friendly and the room was perfect size for me. Everything was very clean and well kept. The bath was the highlight of the place, a great way to relax after a long day!
- Lewis (6/5): - WiFi didn’t work
- Tess (10/5): - Very close to so many restaurants - location extremely convenient
- Alexandra (10/5): - very clean and very spacious for one person, the bed was very comfortable to sleep in ☺️ there’s also a lot of restaurants near by, convenient stores at every corner, the namba station is right next to it as well! would recommend!!
- Marc-Olivier (10/5): - Great location and facility for a very reasonable price.
- ASAKO (10/5): - Compact, Convenient
- James (8/5): A comfortable stay with great amenities. - Fantastic location and a really comfortable stay.
I felt a bit outcasted to go to the Shower/Onsen as it was also open to members. I understand fully and so wasn’t completely disappointed but the feeling persisted. I decided to just enjoy the shower near my capsule room, which was always in high standards and easy to use. Amenities were great and frequent cleaning from staff ensured a good experience.
I felt the check in was a bit cold, unlike my other stays, I felt the attendants were a bit short with me. Checking in was okay but the long stare upon checking out felt like almost to say “leave now.” Rather than “thank you for your stay.” That isn’t a problem, however, it is peak tourist season and naturally that will tire any employee, they may have been having a tough morning.
The room was fantastic, I really appreciated the space and table. The bed was comfortable but a bed that size would do with a second pillow. An odd point of putting the main light near the entrance of the room and no alternative next to the bed meant getting out of bed to turn the lights out, yet there was controls to dim 2/3 other lights. I found that strange from a design perspective.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would do it again as a solo traveller. I have recommended First Cabin and upon arrival to Kyoto I realised a First Cabin near my accommodation and I felt as though I wish I booked that instead!
- CHAN KA (10/5): - Everything is as advertised, very clean interior. Value for money.
- KA KIN (10/5): - Everything up to standard
- Lisa (10/5): - Great location near Namba Station, Dontonburi and Amerika districts. Close to many convenience stores. Neighborhood felt very safe. We stayed in the family room which was huge. Very useful place to stay!
- Cornelius (10/5): - Ideal location right in the heart of Dontonburi. You can get to the location from the Jamba train station without getting out of the station. Lots of shopping, food and night life options. Has a Sauna and a public bath for men which was awesome. Clean and neat even though the general social area is small and only meant for eating.
- CHRISTOPHER (10/5): - Namba was a blast. First cabin was very helpful and welcoming. Plus it is next to a huge shopping station that has all sorts of shops.
- Jonathan (10/5): - It was superb! Very clean and quiet! I recommend it for everyone that wants a cheaper option.
- Sasha (8/5): - Nice area
- MISTY-SKYE (6/5): - convenient area and spacious cabin. staff not really friendly to english speakers.
- Wilma (10/5): - Loved that they had an onsen / spa for women & 1 for men, so you can go whenever you want. They offer a lot of amenities. Location is was so convenient, stayed here once before for a couple of days & really like the area .
- Mina (10/5): - Great location and friendly staff
- Matthew (10/5): - A super experience with a good amount of space and still getting that capsule feeling.
The staff were fantastic and made a massive difference holding onto our luggage after checkout.
- Silvia (10/5): - Close to station
- Patrick (10/5): - Good privacy, amenities
- KRIS (6/5): - All was good except the cold bath water is not filtered regularly causing it to smell.
- Amber (10/5): - Great location and had everything you needed for a great stay.
- Chelan (8/5): Great location - Convenient location as it is connected to the Namba station and near dotonbori for food and fun.
- Jesmin (8/5): - They allow hotel guests to store their luggage at their premises before and after check-in. So my hands are free. I took a quick shower and changed into my clean clothes before checking in. But, I have to pay for towels. June is fairly hot and rainy. It's really not comfortable to continue walking around with a sweaty body. Those who plan to come to Japan during the summer, I recommend them to bring a rechargeable portable fan around the neck.
- Kyungho (10/5): - price/ performamce excellent
- Yang Yan (10/5): - I’m so thankful to have picked this place to stay. The facilities are so comfortable and the staffs are so friendly! It is located in Namba (Midosuji line) and it’s practically close to Dotonbori. You even get a free cup of coffee every morning. I highly recommend this place. Would come back should I be around Osaka
- virginia (8/5): - I did not read the whole amenities section correctly as this a family size capsule room we got so shared bathroom and bath. Overall very clean and very good lication.
- Carolina (10/5): Pod was a pleasant surprise - Very cool experience.
- shardlojik (6/5): OK for a night, but not my sort of thing - Located pretty much above Namba station it's easy to get to from Shin-Osaka and is a few minutes walk from Dotonbori and the multitude of shops and places to eat/drink. Pretty much slap bang where you may want to be as a tourist.
I was staying here for two reasons; the first being as a first time traveller to Japan I thought it would be interesting to stay in a capsule hotel (albeit a slightly more upmarket one) and the second being I was only in Osaka for about 22 hours with minimal luggage. My first main problem was that check in was at 5pm (which is somewhat later than the usual 2/3pm for most hotels). This was a problem for me as I had to be somewhere else for a guided tour at 5pm. As I just had a small rucksack with no lock then I wasn't going to hand it over to a random member of staff beforehand, so in the end I just used a storage locker in Namba station.
It must have been after 9pm when I checked in on the 3rd floor. I was given my access card and a map of where my capsule was and all the amenities etc. My capsule was 460 on the 4th floor. I took the lift up one and then put my shoes in the shoe locker (don't forget the key!). I found my capsule OK, with pyjamas and a towel on the bed. I wasn't quite ready to go to sleep, so I stowed my bag in the lockable drawer under the bed and went to sit in the common area with a drink whilst I checked my email etc. On the way back to my capsule I had a look at the men's bathroom area on the 4th floor. I noticed there were plenty of toilets and sinks, but only a single shower. I guess they would prefer you to use the public bath on the 3rd floor, but I really couldn't be bothered with all the faff of having to go downstairs then lock valuables (or at least access card and drawer key) in a combination locker before going to get clean. Fortunately the next morning it wasn't busy and I was up early enough to jump in the shower.
The capsule itself was fine, with a bed, table, TV (which I didn't use) and air conditioning (which I recommend). Note there is no lock on the door, it is secured in place my some magnets. Also as you aren't in a proper room, then you can hear all your neighbours rummaging about or snoring (because there's always going to be at leat one person doing so). I would highly recommend some earplugs! Thankfully I only had to endure one snorer and most of my neighbours were considerate enough not to make too much noise (as was I). I'm a pretty light sleeper, but managed to get a good few hours in and have no complaints on that front.
Overall I'm glad I had the experience of staying in a capsule hotel and the facilities were fine. It was very clean and the staff were OK. If you just need somewhere to crash for a night and don't have much luggage, then it may be a viable option. But I think overall it's not really my sort of thing and I wouldn't stay in one in the future if given the choice.
- kris (6/5): Facility is nice but... - The facility and location is fantastic. The hotel itself is very clean. And amenities are provided. However, your stay will solely be based on the other guests. And unfortunately I was staying with some very inconsiderate, heavy footed coughing. Sneezing, snoring. And banging guest.
Yup.
- Michael (10/5): - Close to subway station and shopping. Highly recommended!
- John (10/5): - Highly recommend! An amazing location, convenient check-in and check-out, and many amenities.
- alisonhk922 (6/5): First Class Location, Noisy Room, Third Class Service - [Pros]
1. Location in the heart of Namba
2. directly down to Namba station by lift
3. Convenient - there is a family mart opposite to the hotel
4. Big public bath (separately for female and male)
5. Clean room, comfortable bed, big TV
6. Private bathrooms are clean
7. Big TV in the room, but local channel only
8. Free towels, slippers and pyjamas
[Cons]
1. Noisy room - there is only a glass door to separate the cabins and the corridor, when anyone pass by, it is very noisy as the glass door is not soundproof
2. Wifi is not fast enough
3. Lounge is tiny, only few tables, not suitable for business or work
4. Frontdesk staff is impolite! No smile and challenge my question
5. Expensive
6. No fridge for freezing
- ARGHYA KAMAL (10/5): - Nice place
- Yvonne (10/5): - Clean
- AnthonyA207 (6/5): Make sure you check the bed first! - We really wanted to try a capsule hotel while in Japan. What a perfect place to give one a go being they are the most famous for them.
I had done some research and found one which was suitable for a couple which offered like a double bed situation within a small room.
The complex itself was actually incredible with so much to offer and it was very clean and spacious. It had common areas to hang out and also a really great public hot bath and sauna area where you could shower or relax in the hot bath.
There is a cafe out the front where you can access snacks and coffees, they also offer an arrange of other things to enjoy and to complete your stay.
The only real flaw was one of the biggest though! The BED!!! When we arrived I was delighted to see we both had a bed each in the room which were sort of between the size of a big single and a double bed. I didn't think much of it as we left our bags etc to discover the rest of the complex and surrounding area. It wasn't until we went back later and sat on the bed did we realize it was literally a bed base with no mattress on top. It was as hard as a rock and as lumpy as anything. It was so hard I couldn't even lay down on it.
I had to go to reception and ask them for extra blankets so we could lay then under ourselves. This made no difference at all. We then had to lay our doona down and then pull it over ourselves to sleep. IT was still hard as a rock and I woke up with pains all over my body. It was also quite noisy at night as I could hear what sounded like karaoke behind the hotel.
I was disappointed because it was actually really good and sad that this one important thing was missing. The beds definitely need to be looked at as it wasn't normal. It was like someone stole the mattresses and the hotel didn't know. So strange!
- Carol (10/5): - Very comfortable and convenient!
- Joseph (10/5): - This is very close to JR Namba station and Dotonburi. Excellent hotel and very clean. Would recommend getting the shared premium room.
- John-Ross (8/5): - There's a lift directly into the hotel from the subway. Basic but convenient as all hell.
- Erin (10/5): - Great experience for our time in Osaka.
- Robert (10/5): - Close to dontoburi
- Swee San (10/5): - Connected to Namba station via lift to basement.
- Tracey (8/5): Good location - Good location. Room was big and clean, but beds and bedding were uncomfortable. Bath facilities were clean. Best part was the staff was able to hold our bags for a day before we checked in, and they held our bags after we checked out so we could shop around before leaving for the airport. They even kept our food refrigerated until we left.
- Erika (10/5): - The staff welcomed us by name - I found it a great welcome. Also they prepared our luggage ready for us after it was delivered from the airport. Great hospitality!
- Bryan (8/5): - Each cable only have a shatter type door, and you have to be prepared to accept that you can hear the neighbors in the same area.
Pros:
- Location is excellent (very near Namba Station)
- Staff can speak English and are very helpful
- Overnight toiletries are FOC and available at the front desks
- Facility is very clean
Cons:
- May need ear plugs if any of your neighbors snores
- Jacob (10/5): - It was a quick easy check in. The amenities are great, especially the bath was perfect to end the day
- Andrew (6/5): - First Cabin is always my go-to choice when it comes to Capsule Hotels...!
To enter the property, you must take an elevator to the third floor to check in, then the floor above are the rooms.
Security to the rooms are very secure, shoe lockers & under-bed storage is provided, and the space in the room is VERY adequate.
It says you should check your valuables in the safe, rather than under the bed, but when I wanted my camera to be put there, the staff member at the time didn't understand the request in English, and upon collecting it, I spotted it was kept on a shelf in the backroom, and not a safe.
(It is worth noting, it was kept on a towel, presumably to mitigate any damage when placing it down)
The downside however was during my stay, the heat was unbearable. There was no fan, either blowing or extraction, and it was a constant heat all night.
Aside from the heat, First Cabin Midousuji offers a fantastic capsule experience across Japan, and First Cabin Midousuji is no exception.
I will absolutely be staying again, simply due to First Cabin remaining a fantastic and reliable choice.
- michael (2/5): - The staff understood no english and just said everything asked was “impossible.” I have stayed many times at First Cabin properties, in Umeda, Osaka, and Kyoto, all were excellent. Namba staff said using the luggage delivery service such as yamato to forward bags to hotels was not possible. As a result i had to haul everything through giant stations and figure out how to get it on a train for Tokyo. Baggage fw’ing is simply a fact of modern hotel services. This facility is probably good for locals not tourists. The striving to be traditional was ok but the rules were oppressive such as needing to touch the keypad for every door along the way. Even locals always ignored some of the shoes rules and nobody checked their key in when they went out. I will never use this facility again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - As a solo female traveler, I felt comfortable and safe here. Would definitely stay again or recommend for solo female travellers. Convenient location - near the train station and central. Close to dotonbori.
- bikerjoe15 (8/5): Good value and location. Lack privacy. - Arrived at the hotel earlier at about 11am due to my flight timing. This place is located about 10mins walk from JR Namba Station. It occupies the whole 3rd, 4th & 6th floor of an office-looking building. Male and female cabins have separate entrances via access passcards which feels very safe. There are safety boxes in a common area, vending machine, laundry machines, chat corners, dining area, smoking room, and Japanese bath facilities. Simple Japanese breakfast (4 dishes), cereal, juices etc for 500 yen person. Very near to Kuromon market and other street stores. Convenience store located nearby. Level B1 leads to the subway as there is no worries of rain. It’s a pity request for early check is not available (normal check in time is 3pm). Totally recommended if you are a single traveller and don’t mind the lack of door locks to your cabin room (although there is a lockable drawer under the bed. Price is reasonable (PJs and basic toiletries provided) for the First Class Cabin room that I booked for 5000 yen a night. Staff speaks understandable English.
- Emily (8/5): - The toiletries are supplied with good brand, they are nice to use. Everything is very clean and tidy. Love the idea in providing hair styling products (oil and curling machine)
Toothbrush is too small and very very hard, i had gums bleeding. Suggest to provide one proper toothbrush for each customer, instead of replacing these cheap ones everyday, it would be more environmental friendly.
Also, people pack their luggages in the room until 1130pm but no one stopped them, pretty annoying.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Pros: Excellent ameneties, clean, helpful staff, quiet, cheap, good location with subway at the basement level.
Cons: Dehumidifier throughout so it dries you out quickly, rooms closer to smoking room will smell like cigarettes, mattress was a bit lobsided on my cabin
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very convenient. The hotel is just at Namba Exit 13. It’s very clean but the smell of cigarette is too strong on level 3.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is very good ,overall is very satisfied , staff is friendly and the place are clean .
- Martin (10/5): First class cabin. - Great to experience this in Japan. Surprisingly very respectful and quiet considering the rooms are not locked and have what are basically paper doors. Everything you could possibly need is there and more. The shared bathrooms and showers etc are wonderfully clean. The on-site onsen is also a wonderful benefit, especially as a tourist I was one of the only people around during the day. Businessmen, their usual customer, don’t tend to be there until late evening. If you go in with the mindset of first class air travel this explains it down to a tea
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great for solo travelers. It is right outside the subway station so it was very convenient.
It was also only a 5 minute walk to Dotonbori.
I was also able to use their Japanese style hot bath area and sauna steam room.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay. Please note that there are no locks on the cabin doors. They use strong magnets. It is a law there for hostel type of places. As throughout most of Japan; I still felt safe.
However, it is not for very light sleepers. They do offer free earplugs at the front desk.
I would stay there again and look forward to it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is super convenient where entrance to subway is linked to the building. There is no private shower area, might be a concern for those who are not used to ut.
- Glenn (6/5): 100 man dorm room - Facilities and service excellent. My first cabin experience.
Be under no illusions though, this is effectively a dorm room for 100 people. This is just somewhere to lay your head, nothing else. Noise is not aloud in your cabin, so relaxing in your room is suprisingly hard.
Noise is your number one issue. I was surrounded by ill people coughing, sniffing, snorting, hacking constantly. Not pleasant.
I did 2 nights, wouldn't do more
Will suit some, but just be aware what you are getting.
- nagainoken (8/5): - This one is the best location for all access to public transportations also to shopping and eating area by foot!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Unfortunately this review will not reflect positively on the hotel.
Although it said the hotel was non-smoking, there was a strong stench of stale smoke throughout the whole hotel, this may be in part to the pachinko lounge (gambling) on the lower floors. I was very disappointed as the smell of smoke is very off-putting and I struggled to breathe properly or sleep in the hotel due to the smell.
The staff were ok, generally helpful and willing to fix the problems.
The amenities were VERY OLD and dated, and also did not look like it had been thoroughly cleaned in a while; this may be due to the smoke that had been accumulated over the years.
I opted for the breakfast option; but was unfortunately disappointed with the food offered. While they do offer an 'airport experience' the food is not one I want to experience.
This brings me to my final point; while it is right beside Dotonbori (main food/shopping attraction of Osaka) the price nowhere near suits the condition and quality of the amenities offered. I paid $160NZD for a 'First-Class cabin' (Unit 642) which did not have working air conditioning inside, feel free to check the unit yourself. On average in Osaka, I was paying $50NZD at a hostel that provided a better atmosphere and amenities, while still in reasonable distance to Dotonbori.
I thoroughly recommend that First Cabin Midosuji-Namba renovate the hotel completely to get rid of the smells & fix their services for me to recommend to stay in them.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good after all .close to shopping mall ,subways.nice room, working peoples are so kind
- Cheng (8/5): Wonderful stay - Location is good. Hotel lift can go direct to red line subway at exit 13. Breakfast buffet is good too. Service is good. They provide what u need more than a hotel. The Onsen spa is great. I will stay here again 👍
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location, comfortable room and friendly staff
- FranklinC (8/5): - Convenient location...in fact, I loved the location
- YQ (8/5): - Nice cabin hotel near the Namba station. Room is clean and tidy. Only issue is the room near the toilet seems to have smoking smell throughout the day. Facilities are good and the staff are really friendly
- Judy (10/5): - Great location, need earplugs for sure. No private showers, it's Japanese style.
- APPLEALICE94 (10/5): Comfortable stay - The location is great where there are many restaurants and convenience stores nearby and you can take the lift to the metro station without going out to the street. The room is clean and comfortable and with stable wifi. Will come again next time.
- Jc-chu (10/5): Great but bring ear plugs - Stayed here 4D/3N
Overall they have a pretty organized system in place and it doesn't overly restrictive. I'd definitely recommend spending a little more for the larger cabin because you could at least lay out your carry-on (not sure if this location even has the smaller rooms though).
Cabin: Ladies cabins we're split into 3 separate rooms so the noise level wasn't too bad but I'd still recommended using eat plugs (brought my own but they offer it). My cabin was at the end of one of the rooms/corridors which was great because I'm a light sleeper so anywhere I can get less noise was great. The bed and pillows were super firm and to my liking. The sheet was thin but warm and has a good weight to them - I also prefer sleeping under heavy sheets. You also get a lockable pullout drawer (though mine felt a little flimsy) to act as a safety deposit. Anything else, the staff recommend checking it at the front for safe keeping. I did leave my carry-on in my cabin locked. You can also adjust the lights and set an alarm. The only issue I had with the cabins were that they were stuffy to the point I had a hard time sleeping. There's a fan switch but I don't think it made a difference.
Goodies: "Wears" - they provide you with jammies daily. A large and small towel that you can dump after use in the bathroom. Toothbrush and paste replaced daily. Three clothes hangers, a towel hanger, a humidifier (what?!) slippers, and a Handy phone with unlimited data to get you started in the city. Housekeeping is daily but you can hang a sign to decline at which when you return, you'll receive a care package of new wears, towels, toothbrush, slippers and a trash bag which was very considerate! On my second night, this lady was talking loudly on her phone... someone didn't read the rules.... Luckily I wasn't near her cabin.
There's a lounge room for folks to chat if needed as well as manga to be read it you're interested. There are also vending machines throughout the floor and a freebie shelf with extra pillows if you're lucky.
Bathroom: There's a bathroom with 3 toilet stalls, 3 sinks with hair tools (dryer, iron) + 1 outside the bathroom stalls and 1 more seat in front of the mirrors for ladies to get ready in the morning. In a addition, there's makeup removing oil, face wash, emulsion and face cream available. There's also cotton pads, cups for rinsing, and some other things available. That's located on about the same level as the ladies cabins.
The shower room, hot bath (spa) and sauna are located on the 3rd floor which is accessible via stairs (~24 steps) from the ladies cabins. FYI the showers are Japanese style meaning it's opened with no private stalls. This was one of the big things I missed and dove right into it. Luckily I asked one of the ladies in the bathroom and she was nice enough to explain. For those unfamiliar, you take off your slippers at the door and store on a shelf. There will be cubbies with baskets where you'll store your clothes. Take off your clothes there, cover yourself with the large towel, walk into the shower room. There is about 5-6 shower stalls (with seats) as well as a standing shower towards the back in front of the sauna which I've been using as I'm not familiar with sitting while showering. In order to use the spa, you must shower first before hoping in. Back outside in the changing area, there's about 4 sinks + 1 seat for primping with similar equipment to the bathroom plus some extras like combs. There's also a water dispenser here as well as the laundry machine. There's also an additional toilet stall if needed available.
Laundry: it costs 200 yen for a wash - detergent is automatically dispensed and the dryer is 100 yen per 30 mins. Would suggest drying for 60 mins for 200 yen. Note there's only one setting for both machines so you can't set the speed or temp.
Additional amenities I didn't partake in were the breakfast buffet for 800 yen, up to 30% off message, and a bunch of other stuff that's in the guidebook.
- Judy (10/5): - Hotel right next to Namba station. Everything is well organized and clearly detailed out. FYI the bath is public as in you will be showering with others of your gender, there are no private shower stalls.
- wan heng (8/5): Near namba - Good
- Jennifer (10/5): Awesome! Location! Facilities! - Awesome location! So conveniently situated in namba metro. Accessible to Nankai line to airport by foot through metro for a 5mins walk! Best for solo traveler! There is a man made hot spring n sauna in the hotel as well for free. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
- 930natashai (8/5): A novel experience and great introduction to "capsule" hotels - I stayed for two evenings at the First Cabin Midosuji-Namba and overall had an excellent experience. Firstly, in terms of location this capsule-concept hotel is perfectly located. By taking the elevator downstairs and walking through an underground corridor for less than 5 minutes, you arrive at Namba subway station which is a centrally located station and connects to the Midosuji, Sen-Nichimae, and Yotsubashi lines (and will take you to the Shin-Osaka station for JR and Shinkansen within 15 minutes). This hotel is also located in the heart of Namba which is perfect for exploring Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi and Amerika Mura (cyberbunk neon lights, restaurants and nightlife galore).
This is a perfect place to stay if you're curious about trying the capsule experience but a little apprehensive about sleeping in a claustrophobic coffin. The "capsules" in this hotel are more like cabins, and come with all of the amenities of a hotel room but packed into a compact space. Your cube contains a bed (with a locking drawer underneath for storing valuables), a side table, a TV, some hooks/hangers and a convenient bar next to your bed that allows you to control the lights, air conditioning, alarm and television. There is enough space to stand up and to keep your suitcase in the room with you. Note that there are no doors but instead a sliding shade to give you privacy. This makes it such that the capsule is not soundproof. Although there is a no-noise policy in the capsule area, and people were very respectful of this, you could still hear guests walking by at all hours of the day/night, and if someone is snoring I imagine you would be able to hear it quite clearly especially if you're a light sleeper. This was one of my main negative points about this hotel. Although I had earplugs and my capsule was in a moderately low-traffic zone, I still awoke several times throughout the evening. If you're unlucky, you may get a capsule right near the entranceway from the lobby, meaning you'd hear a lot more foot traffic than I did (this would have greatly reduced my satisfaction with the stay). The other thing I didn't quite like is that there are not really any windows anywhere in the main areas other than the lobby and shower room which was a little disorienting at times.
The capsules, bathrooms, and showers in the hotel were gender-segregated. The showers were luxurious, large, and well-maintained. There was a large dressing room area with tatami floors, vanity mirrors, lockers, and every imaginable toiletry that you may have forgotten to bring with you (including hair straighteners!). The showers were Japanese style (open with stools to sit on), which may be uncomfortable for some foreigners who are not accustomed to showering around other people. Shampoo, conditioner and soap are provided, and there was also quite a large onsen for soaking, as well as a dry sauna. The showers along with the bathrooms were both spotless.
The service at this hotel was also excellent. The front desk staff all spoke English and were courteous and efficient. They helped me forward my luggage and provided me a restaurant suggestion which was highly appreciated.
I had breakfast included in my stay, which was buffet-style (both western and Japanese food), however I found that it was average at best and could be skipped (especially given the proximity of the hotel to so many great restaurants).
Overall, I would recommend staying at First Cabin Midosuji-Namba for an introduction to the capsule concept, for the convenient location, and for the excellent service. I would avoid staying here if you're an extremely light sleeper.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good cabin hotel close to everything. - Good location, comfortable and spacious for a cabin. Good facilities, nice and clean and great price. Has a spa, as well as a restaurant/lounge, but the restaurant has limited hours starting from 9pm until later. Food was good, prices were good. Staff was friendly professional and helpful. I would definitely use this place again.
- Peter (10/5): Awesome stay! - I really enjoyed the stay at this capsule hotel. I do wish I stayed another night or two as it was quiet and convenient to central Tokyo. I do wish they had extra room for luggage or else put on top of the lockers / leave at front reception.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel staff tried to get in the room without knocking or call the room. I was suppose to check out but I didn't know .I paid extra charge for 2hours
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay - It's great .. convenient and quiet~
- Johnny (4/5): Avoid it - Not much better than a hostel really.
And the bed was hard as a rock.
- JohnnyLawless22 (4/5): Over priced hostel - I knew I was in for a different experience booking into one of these places but I was still disappointed by it. In the end it really is just one small step up from a hostel but at hotel prices. The bed in the room is harder than a basketball court and all night long I’m just laying awake listening to people clearing their throats and snoring as the rooms aren’t completely blocked off. Also you can’t lock theses things either so you better make sure your gear fits under the bed (my stuff didn’t)
- RaniaE (6/5): Good experience but not for me! - This was my first visit to Japan!
I started from Osaka where I choose this Hotel (capsule) style out of curiosity. However , despite of the sweet ladies in reception and the full facilitated cabin, I somehow find the lack of privacy :
1- you can literally hear the snoring , coughing of the person in the next Cabin.
2- sharing open showers (Japanese style) no doors.
3- bed and pillow quality very horrible (felt itchy and hard)
P.S: it’s not budget capsule it was expensive one considering the space and location (location was awesome that’s all)
- Christopher (10/5): Christopher from NYC - I loved First Cabin. Even though you can’t lock your cabin it still felt safe. It’s in a convenient location. 2 minutes walk to Namba Station. Great breakfast spread too. It’s quiet except the first night I couldn’t sleep because the man in the next cabin snored soooooo badly I didn’t sleep a wink. That was the only downfall of this place. But, I would definitely return.
- Philip (10/5): - Love this place. I'm not sure if i originally got hte business class rooms, but they gave me it. I stayed two nights here. Everything was on the same floor. It is like a block away from Dotonbori. The only thing i didn't like about it is, it smell like smoke, maybe the other folks were smoking in their cabin rooms. Overall if i'm ever in osaka again, i would go back. It is also close to Namba station.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A very neat concept: capsule hotel for business - This particular one only has the "first class" rooms (it's actually encomny class but good enough). According to their website, there are 4 classes in total at some of their other locations.
Bathrooms are shared but it's clean and well kept so it's perfectly acceptable. Also, staff are friendly. Men and women have separate sections but there is a common resting area/cafeteria.
I will definitely try out other locations.
- Yumi (10/5): Overnight - Location is very convenient. Very near Namba station, also eat & shopping....
Staff is very friendly.
- FAN (10/5): Nice stay - It could be uncomfortable to shower infront of other people as the shower place is a shared space. Other than that, the room is awesome!!!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Too much cigarette smoke - We left after one night because the smell of smoke was too strong. They don't enforce the no smoking policy in the sleeping area. It's also difficult to sleep because the cabins don't close all the way or lock and you can hear people shuffling around outside of your room all night. The beds were also very hard.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice but improvement on noise and ventilation need - The cabin is extremely clean and tidy, staffs are all friendly and willing to help, the only problem is the noise from the corridor and the ventilation, feel hot and not much fresh air circulated.
- mtakasurf (6/5): Good price and nice lacation - This hotel is just for business trip.
There are many restaurants and shops around the hotel. So you can enjoy Osaka night life.
However, it’s a little noisy because the room is not sealed. I don’t recommend, if you nervous it.
- Joseph (8/5): Nice! - Pretty nice place, they gave me a fan to use in my room because it was hot! Quiet and comfortable! Great location, really close to the shopping street and Doutonburi!
- John (8/5): Great Location, clean and comfortable - The hotel is very well located , the cabins are comfortable (big ones) and the public facilities are neat.
- chloey472 (8/5): Not for Long Stay - First time to try out cabin style and this cabin hotel consider as one of the most private cabin as compare to there as each guest will get their own cabin without sharing like a dorm style. Good for a short stay. spacious enough for those who have small luggage. Only bad thing is too warm or stuffy during winter or spring because they only have heater. No fresh air coming in from the whole area. Everything you need is provided. Super near from Namba station and accessible through underground subway station.
- Ed (8/5): Decent accomodation in great location - Right in Namba. Walking distance to Dotonbori area and Shinsaibashi shopping street.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room was hot, the sinks were cracked and the place feels old overall. It's poorly maintained. It is clean, though.
- Yumi (8/5): Perfect location - Location is very convenient. Just walk 1minute to station and big shopping area.
Staff was helpful and friendly.
“ Outstanding job “
- adasisi (10/5): highly recommend for single female - - just few minutes walk from Nansai Namba station and Shinsaibashisaju
- although all the room is cabin, but it just like staying in a private room with enough space for keep luggage
- bathroom is nice & clean, with all the personal daily necessary such as shampoo, face cleaner, lotion, etc available
- nice common room with plenty of comic
- staff is very helpful
- petermI8834TL (6/5): Great Location, Clean but overall pretty Average and over-rated. - First of all, they try to pass themselves as a luxury hotel charging anywhere from 70 to 150$ a night when in the end what you really get is a 2,5m3 cabin with a bed located in a dark lit corridor. You instantly realize that with the automatic piano playing at the entrance, the same song in a loop. After sitting in the waiting room for awhile you start getting a headache hearing the same classical song in a loop.
The hotel is clean, but the bathroom has what i would call "Airport Facilities" + shower and a tiny tiny public bath. Basicly if you slept in your car and used the washroom at the airport you would get the same thing. If you take a look at the pictures, it looks exactly what you would get at the airport 10min away on foot at the Kansai Airport.
The Hotel is empty half of the time but they seem to be pushing the idea that they are exclusive and always booked. When i reserved i was assured that they are very popular and booked. When i showed up i saw perhaps 10 guests on a capacity of 500 cabins. You know they are vacant, because they are open and i pretty much arrived at 9pm.
The staff is nice, but then again in Japan, japanese people are trained from a young age to be very nice and respectful to customers regardless of what they truly think of you. So you will rarely if ever find issues with bad japanese service.
Objectively speaking, there is nothing wrong with this hotel. I just feel that I could have easily gotten a real hotel room for 9000yen anywhere else, where i wouldn't have to keep quiet due to neighboring cabin guests, wear headphones so i could watch TV sitting in my little Coffin and occasionaly go to the vending machines to get water.
And if you want foot, you still have to walk to the airport to take advantage of the 24/t restaurants there.
Personally, i think i i could have rented a car for 8 hours, slept in it + went to the airport to do my morning freshening up + gotten food at the restaurant and it would have been a similar and perhaps cheaper experience.
