• John Robert (2/5): Very strange experience. Be aware. - I booked to stay at City View Hotel. When I arrived they put me on the phone with the reception. The person on the other end told me that my room was in another building of the hotel which is 2 minutes walk down the road. He said someone would accompany me there. We walked to the building, and to my surprise it was a completely different hotel: called Amin Hotel. I didn't book at Amin Hotel and told the guy at the reception. He wasn't concerned nor did he understand my concern. I told him it's not right to move guests between hotels like that which he didn't seem to understand. If I was a woman, I would not have accepted being moved between hotels as it is potentially dangerous situation. When I Google Amin Hotel it comes up as a completely separate hotel, with poor reviews. It is a 1 star hotel, but the City View Hotel (which I made my reservation) is a 3 star hotel. The room was basic and small, but fine. The shower didn't have a door or screen, so when you shower water goes everywhere and then you have to clean it up or risk slipping and breaking your leg. The TV didn't work. The breakfast was terrible. There was nobody who spoke English so nothing was clear or communicable. The food offered was stale and of awful quality. You don't get to choose what to eat, but rather get given a few pre-selected things. There was no fruit, no yogurt, no juice. I pre-paid the hotel US$15 for a taxi to take me to the airport at 4am on Monday, but when I went down my taxi was not there.

I had booked it because of the location and price and having stayed there 5 days I am certain that I could not have found a better place to stay , even at a higher price. The view of Tahir Square is unbeatable but the rooms and the service are exceptional.In all fairness the bathroom could do with updating but this is easily forgiven in view of the price. The hotel has a genuine Egyptian feel about it, and the breakfast on the balcony overlooking the square is an experience in itself. All in all unbeatable at the price.

Hotel staff arranged airport transfers and tours all at good prices withel good service, and felt safer than street vendors.
• Gene (8/5): - The City View Hotel was a safe and convenient place to stay while I was in Cairo. It is centrally located. The food, I thought was mediocre. There were a lot of packaged items for breakfast and the restaurant served meals that were adequate but the quality wasn’t that great. I think if the hotel wanted to improve it should revamp the entire kitchen in terms of what is available for breakfast and the quality of their food, in comparison to better restaurants and types of cooking. Also more variety of choices for meals would have been nice. The one shining star for me was Hassan, who arranged my travel for the entire country. He listened to and took in my preferences, my limitations, and my sensibilities. He listened in a way that supported me as a person and as a unique traveler with unique needs and wishes. I felt deeply seen and heard, and the conversations we had were very affirming, meaningful, and helped me understand how to navigate the country in a way I couldn’t have known or done on my own. All the arrangements for drivers and guides were punctual, and professional, as well as friendly and positive. I encourage anyone staying at the City Hotel to ask for Hassan to help them plan their trip in the way best for them. Thank you, Hassan!

I was in touch before I arrived with the hotel driver via WhatsApp. I sent him my flight details etc. He assured me that the hotel car would meet me at the airport. He did not show up and he didn't answer my WhatsApp message. Not a great start, I was disappointed as it was supposed to be a free shuttle for a three night stay. I had to make other arrangements late at night after thirty hours of travel. I also asked for a double bed and overlooking Tahrir Square. I received a room overlooking the gas station and a room with two single beds. Slightly disappointed with this stay.

• arunbaliga (8/5): Stay at City View - We stayed 3 nights over April end and early May. Pros: - Centrally located at Tahrir...5 min walk from the Egyptian museum. Middle of shopping areas. - Good restaurants and shops in the area. Etisalat store is 5 min for sim card. There is a forex exchange on the same road. - Rooms and bathroom were clean and spacious. - Though centrally located, you don't feel much of a noise at any time. - Also arranges tours as per your needs. Costs were mid range. Drivers arranged by them for their tours and airport drop/pickup - Mohammed, Hussein, Ahmed Shokry were all good. Vehicles are owned by their parent company Middle East tours. - Breakfast was good and very filling. Esp. Falafel. - Staff are friendly and polite. Cons: - Unless you need depth of information, i would suggest not adding a guide in their tours. Apart from additional cost and fact that guides can't enter the pyramids or other enclosed spaces, there is always a push to close sight seeing earlier and move towards perfume, carpet shops etc from guides. I didn't like it. Please be aware of this guide factor if taking a tour from hotel or any other hotel in Egypt. - Also, a railway station drop arranged by the hotel wasnt as expected - I believe it was arranged privately via a local taxi and not as they did the other arrangements. We were dropped in a market away from the entrance and had to figure out the entrance due to construction activities around..a cost premium of 2.5 - 3 x wasn't paid to get same experience as hailing a car on the street. In the long run a hotel needs to iron out these things to really do well. - Kettle and complimentary water bottles are not provided. For the price vs location vs other benefits, overall fine.

When we arrived at the hotel, they said they were overbooked and didn’t have room for us, even though we had a confirmation from Expedia and had booked our room over a month in advance. That was not a fun thing to hear after a long, tiring day of traveling. We ended up having to walk to another hotel with all of our luggage. There was no warning from them before we got there to check in - they could have at least messaged us so we could have taken our taxi to the other hotel instead of having to walk. Also, the airport shuttle is NOT free, as Expedia advertised. It is 500 LE one way.

One thing you have to consider when staying in this property is the never ending traffic noise. And don’t forget to ask to make up your room because it’s not automatic. Just make sure to pick up your Vodaphone SIM card at the kiosk at the airport before you leave so you don’t have to wonder around without data looking for one. Very friendly staff and could get you some good deals for day tours. I had a standard room and it did the trick as I really only used it to sleep and store my things. Breakfast was included and is a set menu - a little bit of everything and vegetarian friendly. You’re right in the heart of Tahrir Square and across from the Nile Ritz-Carlton Hotel. I felt very safe walking around and shopping / restaurants were all very walkable. If you’re not adventurous with new foods there are restaurants like McDs and KFC but if you want authentic food like Koshery there are lots of great places. There is an electronic store 6 minutes by foot that takes credit cards if you need to pick up a charging plug or cords. The Egyptian Museum is also across the street. Overall, I definitely recommend staying here.

• sushmitah2022 (8/5): Family stay with 4 teens - It is centrally located opposite the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities. It’s a budget hotel so don’t expect luxury. It was clean and the sheets as with all Egyptian cotton was great. The teens loved it as it was run down with an old world charm. I suggest walking the 130 states up for hood exercise Hany and staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included. The main reason I give this a good review was their graciousness with my husband forgetting to cancel 3 rooms in early Jan and transfer booking to Feb and they did not charge us He rang them the day we were supposed to be there

• SumanaM34 (8/5): Cairo tour - The hotel has a good location, Egyptian museum is a stone's throw and many eating outlets and market is at walkable distance. The staff is very supportive and helpful. Breakfast with the view of nile and morning Cairo is very good. Rooms are clean, linen clean but ac in our room was working but in a bad condition,very old. The hotel also arranges Cairo tours mainly by Mr Ahmad Faris but if one takes your from hotel please bargain prices and first let the person know which places they would cover with entry fees. Sometimes they will say with entry but when you go they tell that some entries not covered under tour. If you take Alexandria tour must go inside Alexandria library because the tour permits visit to library from outside but one should definitely go inside this huge library and insist that the tour covers it's entry. Our guides for Cairo and Alexandria tour were not upto the level . We did tours through city view hotel. Rest about the hotel is all good.

The staff were nice enough, (side note, the seemingly nice guy in charge of the Ali Baba restaurant in the hotel didn't understand that I paid for a large bottle of water at the front desk, so he kept asking me to pay him.) Cons: if you want a clean place with little noise disruption, skip this place entirely. Their standard for a 3 star hotel is very much equal to a 1 star. There is way too much noise from the traffic right outside the hotel if you are a light sleeper. The wifi is choppy, and the breakfast seems like they found the cheapest options to throw together to make it passable. It worked for me because I knew it was very economically priced so I looked past all the short comings because I was invited to a wedding across the street at the Ritz Carlton (which was $300 a nite vs around $40 at CVH) and spent most of my time at the Ritz. I only went back to the city view hotel after fun crazy nights and only needed rest. So if you just need a semi clean place to rest and will enjoy the sites and everything else most of you time there, then it may be sufficient.

When there was a small problem in our room, they did everything they could to sort it out as soon as they could - nothing was too much trouble for them. It's that personal touch that makes a good hotel stand out. And I challenge any other hotel in Cairo to have a balcony with such a brilliant setting - to eat your delicious breakfast with a view over the Egyptian Museum and the buzzing Tahrir Square below is a real treat, every morning.

• shays708 (8/5): Overall the stay was pleasant. I recommend this hotel for budget travelers as it is kind of basic. - Price is reasonable for what you get. If you stay 3 nights or more, you get a free ride from the airport which is nice. Location is great. near Tahrir square. 5th floor with a nice view from the diner balcony. Room is simple and clean. It has a small refrigerator. We had a dripping A/C but it worked well. The shower was broken and patched but it was clean, had hot water and flow was ok. Breakfast is simple – boiled egg, falafel, few vegetables, bread and jam/butter/honey and coffee/tea. We booked a driver to Saqqara, Dahshur and Giza pyramids. Driver was on time, very friendly, English speaking, and guided us through the different places. Wifi signal was stable and work well. Hani at the reception is nice and helpful.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Thanks but no thanks! - I was taken to another hotel without my knowledge cause my room had a problem. I would have apprechiated the heads up. Next day finally got to the hotel I booked, the room was decent size but dirty, there was no hot water (turned out I had to turn on the boiler myself), I was offered a coffee in a chipped mug and the free shuttle was not free after all. False advertizing thats all. Staff was nice but most couldnt understand me and when i told them I couldnt sleep becuause of the constant honking the answer I got was "It's Cairo". I couldnt even bother anymore I was too tired.

I start by saying that the view from the room was wonderful with a view of the egyptian museum and tharir square, the breakfast was quite abundant and above all from this hotel you could go on excursions

Chef Mohammad is very nice man took care of our breakfast for day trips and is very accommodating with meal requests.You can book all your tours with the manager. The personal tour guides were very friendly and thoughtful. I traveled with my daughter and I always felt safe. I hope to return one day as one week is not enough to enjoy all that Cairo has to offer

They have a common area inside and a nice restaurant with a decent sized balcony for outside eating. It's definitely not in a quiet area. The crazy Cairo traffic is loud all day and night. I did enjoy my stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.

• Verified traveler (4/5): No water! - Reading through the comments again, it made me think that the tap of the first room I stayed in isn't really working. So I had to buy (yes it was not fiven for free) bottles of drinking water so I can wash my self before sleeping and leaving the first day. I was told the issue on the water was happening in all of Cairo, but I checked with the tour guide I was with for the day, and that was not true. I just hoped they could've done something about that, instead of just telling me the issue was in all of Cairo. The only reason I am not rating this as 1, is because my second night was pretty decent. Also, it seemed that their scanner and photocopy machines were not working as I had to wait for a few minutes to get my passport back. They even asked for it again, cause apparently, they were not able to copy it the first time.
• Elizabeth (10/5): EGYPT TRIP - The hotel has a good location, rooms are comfortable, good beds. The best part are the staff , very helpful, honest and friendly. For the guys downstairs, the concierge, the receptionist at front desk made our stay very pleasant. I felt secure and safe. It has a daily breakfast also. The only thing is that the decor needs improvement, but for the price is a bargain! Thank you Guys!!

• TipsyMerf (2/5): Overrated and run down - We stayed as a family of 4 at this hotel in a room over the extreme noise of car honking all night long. The room and furnishings were dated, the bathroom floor leaked water daily, the hot water ran out after 2 showers. The tap had 2 positions, over the sink and barely over the sink and shampoo was not enough for 4, given in small packets. The safe didn’t work so taping the batteries in became the answer by the staff, who although kind, really haven’t fixed any of the problems mentioned in reviews on this or other booking sites. Nonetheless, the taped batteries fell out and we had to call staff again. The air conditioner was filthy and the window above the lower window didn’t close so all the noise came in. Breakfast was a measly smorgasbord of bread, boiled eggs and tea or coffee, the same daily. Pickup from the airport is free if staying more than 2 nights. The no seatbelt dirty car will not necessarily fit all your luggage, we struggled with 4 suitcases. Return journey is US$15 again in a non seatbelt, not hotel run car. We were very disappointed with this hotel and would not recommend it.

The hotels photos suggest the rooms are bright and clean when in fact they’re small, dirty and in need of repair. Broken taps, a safe that didn’t work, hot water that ran out, non working tv, leaky bathrooms floor, and the extremity of noise from car honking all night is enough for me to not recommend this place. Although the staff were kind, the pickup and drop off from/to the airport in someone’s dirty car, with no seatbelts and barely squeezing our luggage in was not worth it. Very disappointed.

They went out of their way to make sure we had anything and everything we wanted. Super helpful and responsive. I would recommend this hotel if looking for a good value.

But "We have many City View Hotels in Cairo" ! No, they don't but they have agreements with other small hotels in the area that can provide a room at the same rate. However, not with a 'City View'. So they agreed to cancel my reservation and I booked in at another hotel. I don't know if I should give it try next time in Cairo

• Departure745703 (8/5): GOOD AND CONVENIENT LOCATION - I had one night stay in this hotel in September 2019. The room was a little bit too small for two persons. Air conditioning was good and the single bed was a little bit too narrow judging from North American or European standard. Food was acceptable but the city noise was a bit disturbing at night.

It's Close to the Egyptian museum and many restaurants, travel agencies, stores, etc. it can be a little noisy since it's a busy area. The breakfast they provide is very good. Many different sources of protein (cheese, yogurt, meet, eggs), bread, milk. The workers are very friendly. They struggle understanding English but they did above and beyond to comfort us. They provided a great service.

You can enjoy breakfast or dinner overlooking National Museum & Nile view at a distance....Mr Marco ,the Manager was all help ,long before we landed in Egypt. He organised all the personalised tours..with exclusive guide..Food ,tho not of wide range, was good enough..& the elderly Chef was always obliging...Airport pick up was free; drop off, @USD15 was also ok...Overall, had a very pleasant experience of Cairo sojourn, with City View as base.

Accommodations, while not luxury, were all we really needed and we were quite comfortable. The view from the balcony was of the Egyptian museum with the Nile in the background. Beds are semi-comfortable. Staff is extra humble helpful and friendly. The Egyptian breakfast is amazing with a view of the Nile River. Highly recommended if your in to experience the culture, but don’t expect super fancy.

• Mansoor (10/5): A good priced hotel in a great location. - I went with my family to Cairo on the 2nd of August 2019 and stayed in City View Hotel for five nights. The hotel sent two cars to receive us from the airport as per their free airport pickup service. During our stay, there was a slight problem with the tap of our bathroom. They immediately provided us a new room. The hotel is in a very good location as it is only a few minutes walk to the Cairo Museum and a ten minute walk to the famous koshery, Abu Tarek. The hotel breakfast was good but could be better. The hot falafels served every morning were delicious. The hotel manager organised a city tour for us on our request, with a reasonable price. All staff including the drivers are professional and helpful. We enjoyed our stay in this hotel. We highly recommend this hotel for their service and it’s location.

The hotel organised for us to be picked up from the airport, despite our flight being delayed by a few hours. The staff were friendly, hospitable and very helpful. The chef accommodated to the different guests' requests. The rooms were cleaned daily and the air conditioner worked well throughout our stay. Overall, City View Hotel prides itself on good customer service from its staff and the facilities within our rooms were as advertised.
