- Xiao Yi (8/5): Would recommend for short stay - Very nice and helpful staff, great location. Bring a long charging cable. Power plug is far from the bed, and there was only one in the room.
- Rafael (5/5): -
- Hong Koon (7/5): Short stay at accessible location - Simple room but amenities all working. Location is good, hidden on a quiet corner but not far from Ueno station and main activity areas. Would be good to provide the room size to give customers a good idea.

- Luke (9/5): Convenient and well priced - This hotel is conveniently located and easy to access from Ueno Station. The staff are excellent. Some staff speak enough English to make things easier. I was able to leave my luggage before check in and after check out. The cafe/restaurant was closed during my stay.

- Lopez (10/5): First amazing stay in Japan - The hotel was super close to the train station and there's a restaurant right next to the hotel. The accommodation is great and the room has a good size for one person or 2.
Staff was very friendly and they speak English. The neighborhood is quiet but there's a lot to see in the surroundings. Everything was perfect to me.
- Christina (6/5): Good experience - Location very convenient No comment
- Darryl (9/5): Awesome! - Location awesome, 4 minute walk from main uneo hub , grocery store close , wifi awesome, aircon awesome , so so clean thru out hotel , microwave in lobby to use to..location was the beat, quiet street close to Uneo station...I'll go back again! Price was ok to compared to others in area ! It's not that I didn't like it , but must say room is small even for Tokyo standards, but i knew this before I booked ! But letting you no ! But more than ok for me !!!
- Muhammad (7/5): Good -
- Wc (7/5): If found no other choices in Ueno, this hotel could be considered as a last alternative. - It is the most economical choice in Ueno and the location is near public transportation. The staircase from outside leading to the front desk of the hotel is surely a poor design!
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Mariela (10/5): - The staff was so understanding and amazing.
- Amee (10/5): - Great accomodation for the price. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our son broke his phone and they went the extra mile to walk us to a repair shop.
- Yupa (8/5): Very good -
- Carlos (6/5): - Convenient, close to Ueno train station and Ueno park. Decor is outdated.
- Aira (10/5): Exceptional - Very accessible to the train stations and shopping street as well as conveniet store None
- Wayne (3/5): Poor -
- Thitirat (9/5): Superb - The room are super clean! The price is reasonable compared to the room and location. The hotel is quite close to 7-eleven and Metro Station. Jr Station is around 600 m from the hotel but can go there through the Panda Bridge - quite convenient. The hotel is quite far from Keisei but the walking route is flat, no stair.
- Thi (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (7/5): Good - location and cleanliness very small rooms, no place for luggage except floor
- qwertyui (4/5): - stinky smoking rooms and corridor. bad ventilation. bad soundproof.
- syberknight (8/5): Good Budget Hotel Near Train Station - A good budget hotel. Room are comfortable and clean. Staff were helpful (but may not speak much English) and friendly. The breakfast was nice with some traditional Japanese breakfast. The restaurant-bar serves delicious matcha cake. The hotel is walking distance to the Ueno Train Station and very convenient. Hotel is also walking distance to the night market and there are halal restaurant/cafe at the night market stretch of streets.
- Will (10/5): - Really lovely staff, clean nice rooms and comfortable beds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to Ueno station. Easy access. Great Japanese breakfast.
- Ingrid-Kristine (8/5): - Was just her because I forgot my keys in my home country, it served it’s purpose for the price I think.
- IgokiR (8/5): Great for my stay in Ueno - I stayed here in late July 2019. I was travelling by myself and looking for a hotel close to Ueno Station where I could spend the night. I booked a standard single room through the hotel's website about a week before arriving in Ueno. The room fit my needs perfectly; it was a simple, clean, small room with a bathroom, air conditioner, and small refrigerator. As I was only spending one night there and was outside most of the day, I really only needed a place to set my things down and take a shower. My only complaint is that the room smelled faintly of cigarettes; if you have a sensitivity to cigarette smoke, I would tell reception.
In terms of service, all of the staff I interacted with were kind and patient. I talked with two people at reception and both were able to help me in English. I also made a mistake with the room and they were very accommodating. All in all I had a very pleasant stay.
- 808Islander (8/5): Good value hotel - I stayed at Ueno Terminal Hotel for an overnight stay. Staff were courteous and check in was not a problem. Hotel can be a little tricky to find. I booked a room for one but got a room with two beds. I was happy with the extra space. I didn't think I purchased breakfast but they gave me a coupon when I checked in. Breakfast is at a restaurant in the hotel and is a very good traditional Japanese breakfast. Room furnishings were older but very functional. There were no instructions in room for free wifi. I understand you have to get a code for each device from front desk. I had pocket wifi so I didn't need to use the service. Room was spacious by Japanese standards. I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was conveniently located close to Ueno train. The staff were friendly. The room was reasonably clean, although the carpet was a bit tired and stained. I think they should instal new carpet in the rooms, maybe like the carpet in the hallway. I also recommend they change the floral wallpaper in the rooms to freshen them up and make the walls look stylish (maybe not a floral pattern). They shoul also vacuum under the bed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I chose the Japanese style breakfast that was so great. It made this hotel worth to stay. Location was what they described, walking distance from JR Ueno station.
- BrissieChook (8/5): Good location - Stayed here twice during our trip to Tokyo. We were a family of five and our room had two single beds plus three futon which could be closed off by sliding doors. Stafff were very helpful and polite. There is a restaurant downstairs and bar. Lift only goes to the 6th floor and our rooms were on the 7th so you need to carry your bags up one floor. Rooms were serviced each day with clean towels and pjs were provided along with shampoo conditioner and body wash. Bathroom is very small. My only disappointment was the room had a smoking smell. The hotel is located within a four minute walk from Ueno station and Ueno Park. Lots of restaurants and shops close by. There is an overhead walkway or underground tunnel to get to the station. The station has a great supermarket and bakery. There is a family mart in the same street as the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Service desk people were very helpful. The room was more than enough for the family of five. Breakfast was the best, taste good and healthy, and the staff in the restaurant was very friendly. The location is accessible to everything we needed, train, restaurant, convenient stores etc.
I was really happy with my stay in this hotel and will be booking with them again in the future.
- Tetsuya (8/5): Nice hotel - It could be better if they have ramp slope at entrance.
- Terrantsai (8/5): highly recommend hotel - this is not the first time i live in this hotel, i have ordered items on amazon jp, they are able to accept the service, but please deliver at the date you will be checked in. They provide a good service and i will stay this hotel again in the future
- yuki (6/5): - it is located to very near to the station, however, very difficult to find.
- syberknight99 (8/5): Ueno Terminal Hotel, Taito, Tokyo - This unassuming hotel is within walking distance (about 10 mins) from the two main train stations, i.e. Ueno Station (JR station) which connects to the monorail to Haneda Airport and the Keisei Ueno Station which connects directly to the Narita Airport. The hotel’s staff are all friendly and helpful and able to communicate in English, some are better than others. Rooms are small but clean with good shower system. The restaurant cum bar, Pronto is connected to the hotel and serves great desserts and there is also a Japanese restaurant, Suisha Hoten, at Basement 1, serving traditional Japanese food. The hotel is also walking distance to many famous tourist spots of Ueno, e.g. the National Museum of Nature & Science, the Ueno Park , Royal Museum and the Zoo. The Hotel about 20 mins walk to Ameyoko Market which opens from 10am to around 9.30/10.00pm. You can buy a lot of stuff here from food to toys. There are also a couple of Halal eateries there for Muslim visitors.
- Steve (4/5): - Very pleasant, clean, reasonably priced and convenient.
- Verified traveler (6/5): By the Ueno station - nothing good except the location
- manyingt2017 (8/5): Good location - The hotel is near the Metro Station, JR Station and Skyliner, very convenience to move to other location.
The hotel room is clean and tidy. The hotel offers breakfast daily and you can choose western or Japanese style.
The hotel is quite near the shopping street and lots of restaurants nearby.
- Tim (6/5): Reasonable hotel, good location - Very close to Ueno Station; quiet area, comfortable but small room. Good staff; quite a good hotel, overall.
- PatrickK4370 (10/5): Mere 1 minute (by walk) to Ueno subway station - I was very satisfied with this hotel which was recommended to me by a friend. GREAT location, CLEAN room, NICE staff - could not ask for more. Breakfasts in the Ueno park are the best!
By the way, I visited Tokyo 4 years ago, but there is not a possibility for a review to be old more than a year :(
- Yuew Yee (10/5): - Good receptionist with good breakfast
- KVMills (10/5): Highly recommended! - We have just completed our stay at the Ueno Terminal Hotel and were extremely pleased. The room was spacious, clean and provided all toiletries. The staff was fantastic - friendly, helpful, English speaking. The location was perfect - practically connects to the Ueno Terminal, a 5-minute walk to Ueno Park (which is a must-do), and central to all other neighborhoods. The on-site restaurants were wonderful - I especially recommend the Japanese breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Extremely value for money - Typical room size for a single traveller, but desk was extremely small, even though they could have provided a bigger table. Not enough space to put my bag and lay out my makeup/toiletries.
Walls were extremely thin and I was woken up every morning at 8 when the cleaners began housekeeping, even on the floor below. The lady staying next door had phonecalls every night and i could hear the majority of her conversations.
Very cheap though, with comfortable bed, meticulous housekeeping and clear instructions in 3 or 4 languages. Front desk personnel spoke pretty good english and were very quick to respond to requests or calls. Totally value for money and I would stay again if I visit alone.
- Andy (8/5): Not all bad choice - The hotel is located near Iron station which is convenient to connect to the airport by the skyliner from Narita airport. It's close to the Iron station too. The room is a basic one but clean and enough for short stay. Breakfast is not good but if you just expect a contenital one it's OK. With its comparatively low price to the other hotel I think this is not a bad choice.
- Joy Joy (6/5): Convenient location but old room - Very conveniently located at Ueno Station (even have escalator when coming down and going up the bridge). Walking distance to various shopping areas and good restaurants.
Reasonable price but room is very old. Smells mouldy and toilet ventilation is extremely loud. Cleanliness of room falls below my expectations (as a frequent traveller to Tokyo)
Would not stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Not very clean, but ok. Price is quite reasonable.
- Johnny (10/5): Great staff, near to the train/metro station - Very nice staff, helpIng me all the time of my stay.
Is near to Ueno Station and metro, that helps a lot.
- vanillachaitea (8/5): Good location and good value! - I stayed at Ueno Terminal Hotel for 6 nights. Location is very convenient to JR Ueno Station, Kinsei Ueno Station, and the Ginza/Hibiya subway line. Ameyoko market, shopping, and Ueno Park are very close to the hotel. The staff were very friendly were very helpful to resolve any problems. Amenities were good, they were able to provide a hot water kettle and green tea pouches for my room.
The room was small but it was expected. The room and the bathroom were clean. They are willing to provide a free drink voucher at Pronto Restaurant if you don't need housekeeping. (Coffee was very good at Pronto.)
The only downside was that there was construction going on next door. But they didn't start work too early so the noise wasn't really affecting my stay.
It was a pleasure to stay at Ueno Terminal Hotel. Great value.
- CanadianFlashPacker (8/5): Good Find! - Curretly staying here.
There are othere reviews complainig about the size of the rooms/bathrooms, lack of English, etc. and all I have to say is what did they expect? Next time they should just stay home.
Yes the rooms are dated but they are spotlessly clean. Yes the rooms and bathrooms are small but what did you expect in one of the most expensive cities in the world.... and shouldn't they be outside exploring Tokyo rather than spending time in your room? Yes, the use of English is limited but you're in a foreign country, what did you expect? Learn how to use Google Translate, it works wonders! The staff go out of their way to assist and are more than gracious. The property is located in quiet area of Ueno but within minutes walking to the "hub" of the district.
Value for money can't be beat, especially for Ueno
- Pingping (8/5): - It is a good place to visit JP. Easy to move in and move out.
- Jackie (6/5): Could be better - The main room light didn't work. Smaller room lights worked fine, so we had enough light in the room, though. When we arrived, the trash cans inside the room had not been emptied. I'm sorry about this hotel because the location is good (close to Ueno station) and the facilities are old but just fine. I think our stay could have been much better if the hotel took care of these little things properly.
- sashaichris (10/5): Spectacular English-speaking, Japanese-quality service, private bath, delicious breakfast - Two months ago, I stayed on & off here over 15 days during a month of travels in Japan. Upon reflection, my deep respect for the staff & management grows. A manager/owner taught me how to to use Skpe to reach my wife. In the evening, this manager wears kimono while attending the restaurant. When I misplaced my notebook recharger, the desk staff immediately lent me a spare, When I left for an interim week of travel to Kanezawa & Kyoto, staff kept my 2 large & heavy bags in a secured room. Later, they lent me a bag scale for distributing weight among boxes being mailed to the USA & lent a cart for rolling the boxes to a neighborhood post office. They even offered tape (that great Japanese packing tape) for binding the boxes, but I had already imposed mightily & purchased the tape at a nearby store. I cannot thank them sufficiently for their thoughtfulness.
There are two breakfast options & I tried both. The Japanese option (at $10) includes many delicious dishes; the miso soup is arguably the best I've had in Japan. It was served at a very quiet bar. At night, this Japanese bar was recommended to me, as well. There is also a separate Western-style cafe & bar called Pronto. Remember "Pronto" when first arriving because its signage is more evident in English than the hotel's signage. Pronto serves a light breakfast-- salad, Texas toast, boiled egg (or a replacement), yogurt & drink (coffee, for me). It appears to be gratis for hotel guests after securing a ticket at the hotel front desk each morning. Because I extended my booking while at the hotel, the clariity of automatically receiving a free basic breakfast at Pronto is not clear to me. I'd recommend contacting the hotel if this breakfast is important to you.
There are two nearby convenience stores for quick groceries, a snack or drink--
a 7-Eleven & a Lawsons.
Windows actually open (in the two rooms where I stayed), which helped for drying laundry & enjoying the chattering sound (when I chose) of walkers on the street.
Cheerful management & desk staff, Western & Japanese-style restaurant staff, & room attendants make staying at the very conveniently located Ueno Terminal Hotel a confidently relaxing pleasure
- Ian (10/5): The only part of my trip to go as planned - I had a 20 or so hour layover in Tokyo, and Ueno Terminal Hotel was in a good location to get to Akihabara, Asakusa, and Ueno. The staff at the front desk spoke English and check-in took barely a minute. The room may be small by American standards and I am a giant but I still had no trouble fitting in the room or the bed. Still, if you are thinking of sharing one of their smaller room, don't (unless you don't mind someone sleeping right on top of you). The toilets are far more advanced than anything I've seen in America. The shower/sink combo took a little figuring out but should be no trouble to anyone with basic problem solving skills. The wifi was plenty reliable enough. I did not visit the in-house restaurant/bar (as a general rule I do not), so I can't say anything about that. Likewise, I cannot comment on room service (which is offered) because I do not use room service if the hotel is within walking distance of a good convenience store (and Ueno Terminal Hotel right in the middle of plenty of them).
The only issue I had was trying to find it without Google maps. This is not really their fault. They are on Google maps but I was coming out of China and my phone is still having trouble reconnecting to Google. Still, I found it in under half a hour, so if you have a traveler SIM or a Wifi anywhere app, you should be able to find it right away.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bathroom was a bit smelly
- 358oanam (10/5): Ueno Terminal Hotel - I spent 2 nights at this hotel, I must say the staff were very friendly and courteous, perfect location, lots of shopping store near by, Ueno station is in a walked distance. Amenities were great, my only down side the room didn't have a heating water so I couldn't have coffee and no room service, however they do have a vending machine at the lobby , and a 7-11 2 minutes walk from the hotel. Very clean room, small tho but hey you are in Japan :). I will recommend to stay at this hotel.
- gus (6/5): Great access to Ueno station, but not great hotel - Great location, foyer looks promising but my room (and the whole floor) was dated, in disrepair, smelly. Did not feel 100% safe, and could hear everything from the next room.
- Knox (6/5): Simple hotel near train station - Compact room with 2 beds and a tatami room with futons for the children. Clean but uninspiring location
- Verified traveler (6/5): Location good, but would not stay there again - Restaurant downstairs stunk of cigarette smoke. We received free breakfast vouchers but didn't even want to go in as the smell wafting out into the lobby was bad. The room was ok but pretty tired, there were holes in the sheets. No Wifi. Lift didn't go all the way to the top floor (stopped 1 short). Very noisy from trains.
- HonoluluWes (6/5): Ueno Terminal - I stayed at Ueno Terminal recently. The staff were friendly and the room was clean Great location very near Ueno station and near the shopping streets. Only downside is the hotel is pretty old and I didn't really care for the bathroom. But overall, a good value for the price.
- 2808constancet (10/5): Very good location - A nice and clean hotel with very good location. It is not considered small, taking into consideration that this is Tokyo. Standard size. Staff was very friendly and helpful too. Will come back and stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Room with separate sleeping areas - We had to find a room at the last minute for three adults. This met our needs.
- annita (6/5): Convenient location. - Room was clean and very large for a room in Tokyo. Very convenient location. Walking distance to Ueno train station and Ochimachi. Common areas in hotel need renovating. Staff were friendly and helpful.
- nonna (8/5): Hotel staff went out
Hotel staff helpful
- Hotel staff helped me with directions toget to post office ,Dining room staff have English menu.
I found it a good hotel to a customise to a new culture, helpfulness
- w0rldtraveller27 (10/5): Very nice hotel, clean, safe, nice location, great value!! - This wonderful hotel is located in perfect area in Tokyo and you are close to all the popular tourist attractions in the city (Super close to subway station). Staffs are very friendly and incredibly helpful. There are two restaurants in the hotel. The one is called Pronto, and you can have one of the best Pasta in the city area. You can also buy various kind of breads in the morning, and they are all tasty. The other one is called Suisha. You will experience real and fresh Japanese traditional food and Sake. They have scrumptious food and service is great. I was very impressed by everything. I had dinner at this restaurant with my friends and came back the next morning for the breakfast before I leave. This restaurant is now very high up on the list of my Japanese restaurants in Tokyo. Great hotel to stay for multi-purpose. Overall, experience was amazing. Highly recommend!
- artdeconerd (8/5): Within walking distance to Ueno station - Easy access to station, restaurant, shopping etc. Very handy to catch JR or Skyliner
- Ixac (6/5): Stay at Ueno Terminal Hotel - I have stayed at the Ueno Terminal Hotel in the April 2016. I like the location which is very near to Ueno station and there are many eateries in the vicinity.
- Ray (8/5): Convenience - 10-15 minutes walk from Ueno Keisei Station, the terminal station of the Skyliner from Narita Airport. 3 minutes walk to the metro subway and 5 mins, walk to the JR Ueno station. Many reasonably priced restaurants within 5 mind walk. The Japanese restaurant at the basement of the hotel serves Japanese set meals at ¥1,200 for lunch and dinner on weekends and public holidays. As it is a business hotel, basic items like night gown, disposable toothbrush, shaver, scrub, hair dryer and even a kettle are provided. Definitely a good choice.
- Jill (6/5): Moved after one night... - I moved because this was substandard even for two stars. The room was tiny, even by Tokyo standards and zero outlook from tiny window. No closet, just 3 hooks on wall, nowhere to put suitcase, no drawers, weird smell even tho non-smoking and the bathroom was a tiny raised cubicle like in a camper van. I'm a regular sized European person but still felt I had to back in and back out to use the toilet. Bed very low. Lots of corridor noise.
The wifi was very odd with multiple wifi names and the staff seemed just as confused.
On the plus side it was clean And the location was excellent with short walks to the park, the station and plent of eating places. Also great value breakfast in cafe downstairs.
Just wasn't up to my expectations even for the cheap room rate. Went to stay in Shinjuku.
- Joe (8/5): Quiet clean affordable and great location. - Comfortable and clean . If you are looking for affordable and efficient this is your place. It's not the Ritz but it's quiet clean comfortable and affordable. The location. Is prime for sightseeing g as well. Excellent staff too.
- ericcH7249MC (10/5): Amazing - What a wonderful 3 night stay at the Ueno Terminal Hotel. Just steps away from the public transport to get you anywhere you'd want to be. Tons of shopping and food all around! The hotel staff was incredible! Above and Beyond in customer service. The location is ideal as a base. The accommodation are cute and cozy! The hotel offers Western or Japanese style breakfast, which was great for me. I am not much of a "foodie" but having the option to choose and having tried both was a nice treat. All in all my experience and time spent at Ueno Terminal Hotel and Japan was Fantastic. If you are looking for a Great location, Cozy room, affordable, easy access to public transportation, good food and an exquisite staff, THIS is the place to stay.
- U3857ULjohns (10/5): Fantastic - I had a wonderful 3 night stay here. Less than a block away from the subway, it's a perfect home base for an active sight seeing trip. The staff were fantastic and accommodating going above and beyond to help. Restaurant downstairs is fantastic- I loved the bento box. There is also a nice café attached with coffee and pastries. Japanese or Western breakfast included. Rooms are cozy, beds are comfortable and the hotel is charming overall, I will stay here again for sure!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best stay in Tokyo - The hotel is outdated, but the room was clean and spacious with two beds a tatami room. The bathroom is small as you expect for a hotel in Tokyo.
- PeterHongKong (6/5): Good location but substandard - This hotel was advertised as a 3 star hotel according to my travel agent... well, except the location (convenient in regards with Ueno) and the helpful staff, the rest was disappointing.
Very small room, even by Japanese standards. The kind where, if you have a case that needs to be open to have access to your stuff, well, your case will take up the whole space between the bed, the desk and lay in front of the bathroom door (very small bathroom as well).
If you add to this a window that cannot be opened, with a blocked view anyway, and a nasty smell (kind of old cigarette, even if my room was supposed to a non-smoking one), well, not a good experience.
The breakfast is to be haved at the café on the ground floor: it is opened to the general public, so you end up queueing with external customers, to get a very simple breakfast set, served after a 15 minutes wait...
- rachelmD2847WX (6/5): Good but modest budget hotel; unfortunate smell - Location: Absolutely fantastic. You can get to Ueno station in minutes, which means easy access to multiple train lines, including to Narita airport. The Ueno area is top-notch for shopping, sightseeing, and eating. The streets directly around the hotel are pleasant and quiet, with a 24 hour convenience store just one block away.
Service: The people at the front desk are ridiculously polite and helpful. Maid service cleans the room to spotless perfection. Free wifi, pretty good.
Room: I stayed in a single. Small and modest, which is normal for a Japanese budget hotel. Everything is kept very clean, but carpet and wallpaper are visibly old. Twin bed with a firm / hard mattress and only one pillow. Nice desk and chair, mini fridge, TV. No closet. Ultra-tiny but useable bathroom.
The negatives:
-No laundry facilities.
-Extremely thin walls. I could hear the person in the room next door snoring! I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, and I was woken up by voices in neighboring rooms more than once. Bring earplugs?
-THE SMELL. I hate to leave a negative review, because I'm not sure there is anything the hotel can do about this, but at least in my room, there was a noticeable unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom. Keeping the bathroom door shut helps minimize it in the main room, but the bathroom itself has a very distinct bad smell. Everything is very clean, so I don't think that's the issue; perhaps the smell comes from the drains / pipes? Even for a cheap budget hotel, I think this level of smelliness isn't acceptable...
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not happy - I was charged a lot for during check-in, for the extra person, which I feel was a rip-off and unfairly.
- Patrick (8/5): Good location in Ueno (ToKyo) - A very good location a few blocks from Ueno station. Stayed for two days before returning to USA, lots to do in the area and well stay again. Nothing fancy, typical Japanese business style hotel.
- Patrick (6/5): Ueno Getaway - Once I found the hotel, it was a perfect base for exploring Tokyo - so close to Ueno station, but good shopping and food close by, and only a short walk to Kappabashi. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room perfect for one, and a reasonable price.
- Michael (8/5): Great stay and convenient - Room was a bit cramped for me but I am of an average American. This is a budget hotel for business people. Usually Asian. Service is splendid here. Very polite and business-like. Also, very close to the train station and the world famous Ueno Park and zoo.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Tokyo Ueno Hotel - Really small room. Hotel is old but very close to the Ueno station.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel in convenient location - The hotel is a 5 minute walk from JR Ueno Station and well as metro Ueno station(s). The staff are friendly and accommodating. Although my room was a non-smoking room, a smoking smell was lingering but the whole floor smelled that way. The room was clean and the same size as you would get in a more expensive hotel in Japan so for the price, it was very good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Decent hotel, worth the price. Pretty much what you'd expect from a 'business hotel'. Staff doesn't speak much English.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very basic - Tiny rooms, but that's normal in Japan at this price level. What was surprising was the old-style use of metal keys on long plastics sticks that you leave at the front desk when going out. Rooms were clean, but had no pot for boiling water. Bathrooms very small. Desk staff ultra-friendly. Convenient location in quiet neighborhood. Overall, it reminds me of hotels in which I stayed 20 or 30 years ago in Japan.

- Larry (6/5): Budget hotel good location - I got this hotel because of decent price and location by Ueno station, which made it easy to get to/from airport on the Keisai train, and local travel using the Ginza subway line as well as JR loop line around Tokyo. The bed was a little hard and temperature control spotty. I had to communicate with staff about thermostat not working properly, and they made adjustments then. The most annoying detail is the bathroom with having to step over the floor partition at the door, which is worse in the middle of the night when you forget its there and stub your foot. Otherwise it did the job at my budget level and as a single traveler. It was my first time in Japan but I knew the rooms were small. There is a Lawson convenience store 2 min away and a drink vending machine in the lobby. Also the internet wifi did OK. I would go there again, unless for an extended stay.
- Albert (8/5): Great stay at a budget price - Overall very good. Extremely close to both JR Ueno Station and Ginza line. The hotel is a budget price but very tidy and clean. I'd recommend anyone who seeks price/performance.
- Justin Paul (10/5): 2 weeks solo trip - I was on a solo trip for 2 weeks. The reception was very friendly but spoke limited English. The room was great and clean for this price point. I read that wifi was poor in this hotel, I do not know because I brought my own pocket wifi (but their router was placed in plain sight just beside the elevator, I don't think that can be good).
It is extremely near to Ueno Station. If you have a JR pass, it will be easy for you to use the Tohoku/Joetsu Shinkansen to go wherever you like. If you would like to use the Tokaido Shinkansen, that will require you to travel to Tokyo station (4 stations via JR Yamanote Line).
The toilet is tiny but clean. The toothbrush provided was stiff and horrible, I suggest you bring your own toothbrush. Pillow was a little too hard but I sleep anywhere so that worked fine after a while. There's no laundry service but you can approach the reception to point you to the nearest coin laundry where you can wash and dry your clothes (5 mins walk).
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great hotel. Located near to the Ueno station, so it made getting around Tokyo quite easy. Really enjoyed my stay here!
- STEVEN (8/5): Ameyoko business hotel - Close to Ameyoko street market(five minute brisk walk), and near the Ueno train station(ten minute brisk walk) but dragging more than a roll on would be pain full(catch a cab, worth the $6.00 if you have luggage). Great location to be near many different local eating places(inexpensive $5-15) or eat sushi till you cannot move for under $25. Its a Business hotel slightly larger rooms, a good value! Located in a quiet neighborhood.
- Kit L (6/5): Room Without a View - The single room was tiny. Really tiny. The window faced the wall of the adjacent building barely a metre away. That building's piping and air conditioning ducts stuck out and were really close to the hotel room windows. Upon entering the room in the late afternoon light, the shadows cast by these pipes gave the impression of a bars on a cell window. If you suffer claustrophobia, this room is not for you. Rooms 01-05 face this wall. So do other rooms at the rear. The hotel building is located at a road junction with 2 sides facing the street, and the other 2 sides facing adjoining buildings. Most Japanese hotels typically offer complimentary green tea bags with a small kettle in their rooms but not this property. The condition of the room while clean enough looked tired and threadbare. The neighbourhood is nondescript with some small businesses and a couple of restaurants which did not appear busy. Arriving at the Keisei Skyliner Ueno Terminal, it is a 20-minute walk from the station to the hotel with luggage. One has to navigate obstacles such as stairs, bridges and vehicular barriers. It is quite a challenge to do so as the pavement is uneven in parts of the route. If you arrive by subway, look for exit 3 of the Hibiya Line which is closest to the street the hotel in on. Stay here only as a last resort.
- Evan (8/5): Good hotel for a short trip - This is my tenth time staying in Ueno Terminal Hotel and I am a very pleased repeat customer, mainly because of it's proximity to Ueno Station. Hotel staff are friendly, understands English and tries their best to help in their ability. Wireless Internet might be flaky though, especially when you're located right at the last room along the corridors.
