Guest Reviews
- naimuddin (10/5): Five star - Very pleased with services
- Hassan (10/5): Really good visit - I would like to say that it was one of the most perfekt nights in hotels for me because of the staff who was really kind and helpful so i cant name any disslikes..The street is perfect and close to every thing so thank you guys at the hotel for such helpful and kindly treatment!!!
- Gregory (6/5): - Just stayed a couple nights. Not a bad room for the price. But not for seniors or handicapped people to stay because so hard to get to the rooms by stairs.
- Benhilo (8/5): Good Location - Everything you need is close by, restaurants, barber, convenient stores, laundry and so on. Bus stop is around the corner and great view of the sea from the terrace.
- Ghazaleh (2/5): I do not recommend this place at all - Staff: do NOT speak English. Even the receptionists. not only they could not help with nothing; but also if I had an issue or complain (no water , no cleaning etc) it would not get addressed AT ALL.
Cleaning: I came home and my room was not serviced. No clean towel , no shampoo, no soap, garbage was still there, used towels still on the floor, and bed was not made. This is considering that "daily housekeeping" was listed as one of the services they had to offer. When I asked the receptionist , they obviously could not speak English or understand me.
Breakfast: very basic. For example strawberries were smoothed and rotten and cucumbers were also watery and not fresh at all. There was not much you could choose from.
Locations: it's in Sultanahmet, but it's a 20 minute Uphill walk from the metro and from the Blue mosque and Hagia Sofia. I can tell you will be able to find better hotels in the neighbourhood that closer to those listed places with the same or better price.
Building condition: recently renovated so that was nice. But no elevators and you will have to walk up and down ALot of stairs even if you are only on second floor (there are three floors).
1st night; from 3-10:30pm there was no water in the building. So no shower, no washing hands and face, no tea or drink is the whole hotel. That was extremely inconvenient and the staff did not do anything to help. Such as offering to buy spring water, or somehow compensating for their shortcoming.
- Terence (4/5): Wins on location, decidedly not on comfort - Wonderfully located hostal, family run. Room very small, no chair. AC.
Room not cleaned over 5 nights.
Be aware of variable charges as I paid for 4 nights at one price and an additional night was oddly 18 pounds cheaper!
Nice roof terrace with views over the Sea of Marmera. Adequate, if highly variable breakfast included.
- Laurence (10/5): Excellent Service - I stayed at the hotel for four days overall and found the staff to be friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was a good size and very comfortable. The breakfast room was at the top of the hotel and had a delightful view of the harbour. I should point out that there is no lift and the stairs are the old - fashioned spiral sort, so if you are as unhealthy as I am, they are a bit of a struggle. The location was quite good. Near enough to the sites to get to easily and far enough away to be peaceful.
- Sebastian (8/5): Great location! - Kind staff and amazing terrace!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Super Lage- Preis-leistungsverhältnis super - super nettes hilfsbereites personal-
- b (6/5): Guest house decente, buon rapporto qualità prezzo - Posizione comoda accanto alla Piccola Hagia Sofia. Bellissima vista dalla terrazza sul tetto. Stanza OK, materazzi buoni, pulizia così così.
- Johnny (4/5): You Pay For What You Get - No elevator in this hotel. If you have luggage, you will have to bring it up one or two flights of stairs and back down again when you checkout. You will also have to bring it up a few more stairs in order to reach the hotel's main entrance. The street location of this hotel is near railroad tracks and unpleasant. It can get scary at night with no people around. The room I was in was never cleaned my entire stay. Water in shower gets warm, not hot at best. Same with faucet. Heat in room gets warm at its highest setting. Bathroom was dirty with mold on the shower walls and shower floor. Disgusting bathroom. Room had holes in the wall and needed repair. Picture of room shown on Expedia was not at all the room I received. Most staff cannot speak English, especially at night. No phone in the room. Buffet breakfast, if you want to call it that, is very limited. You cannot sleep in the morning due to all the noise from people going up and down the stairs to get breakfast. Breakfast is serve on the top floor, gets chilly, bring a coat when you go to eat breakfast. No safe deposit box in room and no where to store your computer / electronics in the lobby. Be aware of many scam artists in the area of the hotel as well.
- Diane (8/5): Great Value Hotel/Guesthouse - This is a pretty good hotel, especially for what you're paying for. I actually stayed here 2 nights. The first room was a bit below my expectations since the shower did not drain properly, so I had to run it off and wait for the water to drain. But other than that, the room was spacious and clean. The second night I stayed we were in a different room and had to go many flights up the stairs. Definitely not a hotel for the handicapped or disabled. The room was better, but the water in the shower wasn't as hot as I would have liked. I guess you can't have it all here, but you do get what you pay for. And it was still worth it, in my opinion.
The best part about this hotel is the service. Violetta and Yesse ran the front desk and were very friendly and helpful. They left me with a good impression of this place, despite the shower issues.
The location is perfect for Old City Sultanahmet and right behind the Blue Mosque. It's only a couple minute walk from the Hippodrome and a 9 minute walk to the Sultanahmet Tramway Station.
The Wi-Fi and breakfast was free, so that was nice also. They provide you with cereals, European ham, cheeses, bread, and olives, the typical Turkish breakfast, alongside tea or coffee. I would stay here again when I go back to Istanbul.
- Verified traveler (6/5): City guest house - Litet, mysigt hotell. Trevlig personal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): the location is perfect, the locals very helpful - my mother and i had a great time. the senior members of staff were more welcoming and assisted us greatly. it was an amazing stay. very clean and a safe environment. locals and the entire city is vibrant and buzzing.
- John (6/5): Decent Place - Friendly staff and great location. The rooms were cramped and in a slight state of disrepair. Not bad for just sleeping the night, but not recommended if you are the type of person who spends time lounging in the room. Plenty of restaurants close by and within walking distance to the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good clean budget hotel, very convenient location - This hotel was exactly what we look for: a clean room in a great location. A 5 minute walk from the blue mosque. The bathroom was recently remodelled so everything worked fine. The staff is friendly and helpful.
- Wajiha (10/5): Excellent Hotel! - This was a great place to stay at, with a wonderful home-like feel. Staff were superb, very friendly and accommodating! Breakfast was minimal in selection, but filling nevertheless. The location was ideal, being only a 5-10 min walk to the Blue Mosque. I would definitely stay here again,or recommend it to anyone visiting Istanbul!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Voyage à Istanbul - Hello,
Points positifs :
- proche mosquée bleu, basilique sainte sophie, palais topkapi ...
- chambre propre à notre arrivée
- gérant sympa
- petit déjeuner correcte (sans plus)
Points négatifs :
- hôtel bruyant
- ménage non fait tous les jours
- eau chaude était en faite tiède
- John (10/5): Good location, helpful staff - Apart from the weather, apparently during my stay along with Bulgaria, Istanbul was the wettest and coldest City in Europe, bad planning on my part! The hotel I found very good value for money, Close to the Blue Mosque and one of the tourist centres of town. The hotel staff seemed friendly but some had limited English, I have absolutely no Turkish in the locker so not too much to complain about.
Breakfast could have been better, and as for the coffee! I usually have a few cups and eat little in the day
- Turkish coffee or those that I tried were disgusting and not for breakfast
- the coffee at the City Guest House was a kind of Nescafé substitute and equally undrinkable.
- I ended up buying 3 in 1 Nescafé sachets and getting my fix that way.
- why the filter coffee system is not used is beyond me, it would not cost more, and for one coffee addict it would go a long way to keeping me in good humour
But that grouse apart I recommend this hotel highly
In other reviews there's a few gripes about train noise, the trains seem to have been re-routed and I didn't see or hear one solitary train - relatively easy on the ear
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great Location - Overall it was fair but the hotel is a bit noisy.
- Kalli Ahmed (6/5): good value for money - the hotel was in a nice location, near old city. the roof had a nice view and it was enjoyable to sit at night.
the stuff was friendly, didnt speak very good english but with a little effort u could communicate.
the room cleaning was an issue because one time they change only sheets, another time only towels and they didnt clean on a regular base, but u could go ask in the reception for anything and if they had they would provide u (sheet, towel). In general it was a pleasurable stay.
- PARK SEJIN (4/5):
- Anindya (10/5): Would recommend - Nice hotel in a good location and very friend staff
- MatinaM (8/5): Comfortable and excellent location! - I travelled with my mum and it was perfect for us. It is in an excellent location, 3 minutes walk to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia and yummy cafes and restaurants. The room were 100% comfortable and clean and the breakfast included was more than expected. I would definitely think about staying here again!
- lucas (8/5): Great staff - We found the guest house to be great value for money & the staff were very helpful; no request was too big/small! In the 5 nights we stayed he arranged 2 events for us: Hamam & dance show & also airport shuttle as well as getting some ice for us! The guest house is also situated next to a fantastic restaurant; Sirvan. So glad we booked to stay here; great location & value for money with breakfast included!
- faz (8/5): Nice hotel close to attactions - Cosy Hotel if you want to have a place near the attractions. We were out all the day and only came back during the night at which found the hotel very quite. Staff was very helpful and breakfast was decent as well.
- Shamire (8/5): Great Value - Very good customer service. Rooms were clean, bigger and much more comfortable bed that I have experienced at other hotel in the area. Perfect for a budgeted vacation and walking distance to pretty much all the main tourist attraction in the area...
- cm (8/5): Friendly staff! - Very nice experience here. Got a good deal via Expedia and ended up with a pleasant room with a view of the sea. Toiletries just include shampoo and soap, like most Turkish hotels I have visited. Bed was comfy and air conditioner worked great. Nice breakfast spread. Most importantly the staff let us store bags for three days and helped us track down a lost item on a bus. I will be staying there again later in my journey through turkey!
- Omar (8/5): Good value for money - Compared to the price, its a good choice. The room is comfortable and its size is good, but the bathroom is small somehow which was not a big problem. The safe needs to be installed in the closet, instead it was a very small one and can be moved to anywhere. Staff is so friendly and they talk English which is rare in Istanbul! The location in Sultan Ahmet is very good and easily accessible to downtown.
- J Jackson (6/5): very good location - Value for money, but you will get train and traffic noise from 6am
- Couple aged 60 (6/5): You get what you pay for - Too noisy, with a train line next to the hotel. The room itself was large and rather cheap, with an excellent long view over the sea and a bad local view to unkept backsides of houses. Defect plumbing in the bathroom sent out a permanent foul smell into the bathroom and the room itself. This should have been fixed some time ago. Staff was friendly and helpful. Do not buy expensive and slow taxi\minibus transport from Ataturk airport if offered by the hotel. Take the metro straight from the airport at a few Lire per person and then the tram or a taxi.
- Lentilburger (4/5): Comfortable rooms, ok location, bad service - I booked 3 nights and was put in a different hotel on my first night because the actual hotel was full. This is despite booking in advance on Hotels.com. The morning I was supposed to move rooms, nobody informed me of the procedure, until I left to go sight-seeing; the hotel owner then berated me about not knowing what time I was supposed to move rooms and told me I had to do it straight away. That was the first issue. The second issue was that I contacted the hotel directly and requested pick up from the airport; after many emails to and fro, none of which confirmed the pick-up, I arrived in the airport and did not see anyone with a name sign nor the name of the hotel. I looked and waited for half an hour but did not see anyone, I made my own transport to the hotel but was still charged for the pickup even though I did not take it. The third issue is that the hotel is located very close to a train line and if you are light sleeper you will be woken up by the train that runs until about 1 or 2am and starts again at 6am. The fourth issue is that the staff did not seem to know much about things in the area like restaurants. For positives, the room was comfortable and clean, the breakfast nice and the terrace on the top is beautiful (but you need to go up the stairs yourself as no one will tell you about it).
- Turkish Traveler (6/5): City Guest House Istanbul - This is a small and quaint hotel that is close enough for walking to many of the sights in Istanbul like the Blue Mosque. It is a good value if you are stretching your travel dollars. The staff of the hotel were helpful, but communicating in English was challenging. The stairs to the rooms and terrace for the included breakfast were steep and narrow, which was challenging when taking luggage up to the room, but alright to climb and descend. A great Turkish breakfast was available each day and you could make coffee & tea whenever you wanted.
- Al (10/5): Good value for the money! - I have stayed there one night in December. My room was overlooking rail tracks (no train noise at night!) and Marmar sea. My room and shower room were bigger than in other hotels. Furniture looked new and shower was bigger too. Reception was very nice and pleasant for evening conversations. Breakfast was a buffet style, so it what you want. Tea and coffee were available all day, and probably at night too. We used this hotel just to sleep and keep our stuff for a day before the flight. It is 10 minutes away from the tram station and Sultanahmet square. I had my 75 year old mom with me, and the only difficulty for her were crossing busy narrow streets to and from hotel, and steep stairway in the hotel. We got very good pictures from the roof of the hotel, where you can sip a cup of tea watching the sea or the city. Overall the best room, best shower, and a best view in the area for the price.
