• Katie (5/5): Teleurstellend verblijf. - De locatie Ons verblijf was helaas teleurstellend om meerdere redenen. Het matras in de kamer was volledig doorgelegen, met twee grote kuilen, wat het slapen onaangenaam maakte en met pijn in de rug tot gevolg! Daarnaast was de kamer zeer stoffig (overal stof, radiatoren, koffiezet, bijzettafeltje, venster…) en het bad niet proper. De clubzetel in de kamer was beschadigd, met gescheurde stof, wat een onverzorgde indruk gaf. Ook het inclusief ontbijt viel tegen: voor eenvoudige bereidingen zoals een spiegelei of roerei moest extra betaald worden. Slechts één koffie was inbegrepen; voor elke volgende koffie werd een supplement aangerekend, wat niet in verhouding staat tot de prijs van het verblijf en dit voor een SLH hotel? De zogenaamde “superior room” bood totaal geen uitzicht – we keken letterlijk uit op een muur! Tot slot verliep de check-in erg traag… Al met al voldoet dit verblijf niet aan de verwachtingen die worden gewekt.

Ex: sem omelete (somente pago à parte). Quarto muito quente, não tem ar-condicionado! Hotel é um prédio antigo bem cuidado, no caso você vai ouvir os passos do andar de cima. Valor da estadia elevado pelo que oferece.
• claire (3/5): Overpriced - Great central location with their best asset being welcoming and friendly staff, particularly the young lady from Alicante. Avoid room 20, which ironically is classed and overpriced as an "outstanding" room. Impossible to exaggerate how steep and narrow the final flight of stairs is. Also not a fan of an open plan bedroom with both shower and bath in situ. And lost an expensive night's sleep with noisy check-in after 1 am of the neighbouring room but I reckon the combination of dangerously steep stairs and luggage was enough of a shock. Bottom line is the Canal House is overpriced for what it delivers and fails to deliver.

The rooms were ok if you like showering in the room with no privacy and the toilet being in a small cupboard. As for the breakfast it is a continental breakfast with hardly any options and not worth €21. If you want cooked eggs on toast it is extra cost €13. Which we didn’t find out until we checked out as they never said! Service was also too slow we gave up!! Overall wouldn’t recommend!! Also don’t be fooled by the different name of rooms on Expedia and other websites I thought I had upgraded turns out it’s just got a different name and an increased price

• bill831 (10/5): Sincerely Purple - A really genuine boutique hotel decked out in purple accents created a lovely environment. Great service during check-in, as I got there early and waited a bit for the room to be ready. I was given a delicious tea and spent time in the garden. A real spacious garden that is worth visiting to take in the beauty. The room was great, nothing like a warm bath to ease the aches from a long flight. An especially comfortable bed helped, too. 5 out of 5 for me. I’m already looking forward to another visit!

It reminded me that traditional European hospitality is still alive and well (turn down service with homemade brownies!). Friendly staff, gorgeous building, beautiful decorations, fabulous location, delicious breakfast. It was magical. Honestly- it was kind of perfect.

Our room was in the garden side of the building and even with the window open it was really quiet- even on a lovely Friday night. The only thing I can think of was that I felt the breakfast room would have been more welcoming if dishes on used tables were cleared more timely.

Greeted by such lovely friendly and welcoming staff on check in and throughout our stay. We stayed as a 50th Birthday celebration for my partner. The staff were so welcoming and helpful and I would definitely stay here again. The hotel is a 1min walk from Pure Boats river cruises which worked really well and I can 100% recommend to anyone staying at the hotel (the boats also have a lovely boutique feel). The breakfast was perfect and we enjoyed having a drink in the gorgeous bar too!

• Aseadrmr (8/5): Amsterdam in January - The Canal House is located in a 400 year old chandelier factory. Some of the original chandeliers are still on display throughout the property. We checked in early after leaving our river cruise and only had to wait a few hours to get into our room. We were given a hot drink and a snack while we waited and the receptionist was very friendly. There is a large waiting area right next to a bar where you can get drinks and small snacks. I have balance issues and use walking sticks and on the way to our room there are several series of steps to navigate. There are about 8 steps up to the breakfast area you pass through on your way to the elevator which is about another 8 steps up. The room was was a nice size with a couch and chair and a desk and king size bed. The bathroom had a very large tub that could easily fit 2 people and the shower was great. The room is heated with radiator's that take a while to heat up, but closing the drapes helps tremendously as the windows are single pane glass. The only problem we experienced was the bed. It was very hard and not comfortable at all. My husband and I had back aches the entire day. The breakfast was what you would expect for a continental breakfast. The entire staff was very friendly and I appreciate all their help with our luggage. If you stay in the summer there is no A/C. The location is great and very close to a great steakhouse with perfectly cooked steaks and wonderful ribs called Mr Meat Steakhouse. It was just an incredible dinner.

• Debbie (7/5): I probably not recommend hotel as noise, in airplane pattern, was too much - The location was good, shower was nice. The check in & check out process took too long, need a reception specific area not the bar. Was unable to change room temperature so room too warm. Bed lumpy & too soft. The noise was bad. Day they did recycling they woke us up at 6am and then trash last night was loud.

Wonderful welcome and very helpful with guide due to it being our first time in Amsterdam. Unfortunately our shower smelt awful. The drain smell from it came into the bedroom when door was open. I couldn’t use the shower for long due to smell. It was sickening. Due to where our room was positioned. We were awoken both mornings at 6.30-7 due the set up for breakfast. Banging pots and plates. These two things had an impact on our stay and we didn’t want to stay in the room long due to smell. We still a shame because the hotel seems perfect
• MaryEllen (9/5): Small, charming, boutique. We will stay there again. - Canal House is charming. Beautiful, old world vibe. The staff was wonderful. The room, one of their smallest, felt like an attic room. We were only there one night. The bed was super comfortable and the room overlooked the courtyard so it was very quiet. It was hot in Amsterdam, so we had the windows open and a fan going. It is an old house that has been repurposed, so it comes with the usual funnies. It is not a chain hotel. Our local friends said it is on what is considered the most beautiful canal. Very close to the train station. There are no USB ports, but they brought up a bin of adapters and we were able to find what we needed to plug in all our devices. The stairs are tricky, but they handled the luggage.
• Richard (4/5): Beautiful building, friendly, efficient staff, but effective air-conditioning is sorely needed. - The hotel is a beautiful, old building. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and efficient. Beds were comfortable. While there was a great deal to like about this hotel, it suffered from a major shortcoming: no air-conditioning. Our room was uninhabitable when we arrived. Two fans were subsequently delivered. These fans made it possible to sleep. This is not at all what I expected from a facility that describes itself as a "small, luxury hotel".
• Dani (9/5): Simply superb - Hotel is beautiful and the staff are exemplary. From the moment we arrived we felt in safe hands. The hotel Has charm and is full of character. Our deep bath was sumptuous and perfect after day of walking through Amsterdam. The breakfast was good quality and plentiful Although for 21 euros I would expect more than one coffee. Highly recommend. The stairs to Our room were tricky to navigate and the bedside tables are tiny so Things kept On falling on the floor but these are minor.

• Ralf (9/5): Schöne Atmosphäre in Top Lage mit ausgezeichnetem Service - Top-Lage für Spaziergänge entlang der Grachten und ins Zentrum. Super schönes Ambiente - vor allem Lobby und Frühstücksraum. Extrem emphatisches und sympathisches Personal (vor allem Sylwia) mit sehr guten Tipps für Restaurants.
