Guest Reviews
- Alan (8/5): Basic hotel but not bad for the price - Pretty basic hotel, would prefer to stay in something better. But for the price (in Singapore) it's ok and ideal if you are just after a bed to sleep in. Staff are friendly and willing to help. Good location for getting around Singapore, situated between Little India and Bugis (both walking distance). 3 MRT stations in close proximity, so plenty of options for travelling to other parts of Singapore. This was my second stay at Hotel 81 Rochor.
- Jonathan (10/5): - good
- Kong Wai (6/5): Not ideal stay - Would not recommend this got any family trip. Room is dirty and smells bad. Bathroom silicon is mouldy. Air conditioning cannot be control and always going on higher setting even after requesting for it to be turn down. Room so cold cannot sleep.
- pankaj (4/5): - Rating this as poor, because all windows were sealed. There was no light / air allowed from anywhere except the Air conditioning.
Moreover, while doing the booking, I was shown the image of balcony, but when I reached there, i wasn't given the room with balcony. They said, they only have one room with balcony and that is already taken by someone else.
So, had to adjust in a sealed room throughout my trip. They did given me an option to move out and get a full refund, but at that time, I would have had to pay double amount to get a room in any hotel.
Other than this, the stay was fine. This was anyways just a room we had booked, without any breakfast or other amenities.
- Sheema (6/5): - Nice centralized location for street dwellers.
- Laurence (10/5): - The staff was very kind – especially Wendy and Fazil. They were very helpful. Sorry if I misspelt your name(s) – you know who you are! A friendly face is always welcome to a weary traveller.
- Kurt (4/5): - The room wasn’t clean. The area is great. Close to the city and other markets. If your after a room, it’s probably ok. But the cleanliness needs to be brought up to a higher standard. It had hair on the ground and bed, bathroom had soap residue everywhere.
- Deepali (8/5): - Closer to jalan besar MRT
- Verified traveler (4/5): Bad room - room smelled like someone smoked, told them about it, didn’t do anything aside from giving us air spray.
mouldy bathroom, will not recommend.
- Aneesh (4/5): - Property condition was very poor. A bad odour and noisy ambience
- Collie (2/5): - The property is conveniently located but the positive ends there. The service is poor and although it is a budget hotel, the staff should at least try to be hospitable. No room cleaning unless requested.
- Bryan Edward (10/5): - Very nice accommodation. Worth the amount that you will pay and I will definitely go back to this place.
Not only it has a simple room, the hotel is a 2 minute walk from the MRT station, which is very convenient for leisure travelers or backpackers like me. They clean your room everyday and always provide clean towels, complimentary bottled water and instant coffee/tea, which serves a your morning or late night hot drink. Hotel staff is also very accommodating and will help you on your travel needs.
- Yixin (8/5): - Expensive for a two star hotel
- Nining (2/5): - No window, it doesn’t say there’s no window when I was booking, elevator was wet and dirty and stayed that way for hours, the bad room door is moldy, the bed is very firm and I can feel spring on my back, air conditioner cannot be controlled, basically I spent my night very cold and blanket is so thin, one of the front desk staff is not very friendly but the other one who worked early morning shift was very helpful. I’d rather pay extra for better amenities and services.
- Georgina (8/5): - Good hotel for short stays at Singapore.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - very good hotel. Friendly staff
- Verified traveler (2/5): - room key different with lock , so can't lock when going out , ant room ant sleep with us!! mattress is spoil center cave in bad hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room was alright, a bit small but it was okay. staff were helpful. very near to the MRT and walking distance near bugis street.
- Thien Huong (8/5): Good location. Small room but well-equipped - Very good location, walking distance to MRT stations, next door to convenience store. Room is small but quite well-equipped. Good room service. The only discomfort is air-conditioning: its freezing and cannot be turned off even for a while.
- TEO (8/5): It's worth my budget - Receptionist are friendly and willing to help for needy guests.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I couldn’t change the air conditioner. That’s important in Asia country.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It was no room service during 2 days at all. No fresh towels, no fresh water bottles. To close to the road, noisy. I called a taxi through the reception - a private person arrived, not an official taxi. Cards were not accepted, only cash. As a result, we were almost late because of this to the airport on our flight
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The small bathroom design is a disaster. The shower drain means the whole bathroom shower floods whilst showering.
The opaque window separating the bedroom from the shower means you can’t isolate the rooms lighting.
The staff had barely intelligible English and were short and abrupt.
The 4 star price was a gauging while the F1 was on I hope because a permanent rack rate at those prices are unsustainable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice staff and clean room. Easy to go to MRT. Hope to go back again
- Yoon Lee (8/5): - Place was clean and minimal as expected. Love its proximity to the Rochor and Jalan Besar MRT stations. The Little India station is also just a 10 minutes walk away.
- Eric (2/5): not cheap at all - Price was more expensive then i walk in more by $15
- Kevin (4/5): Never at this hotel - Well, both night staff were accommodating. But the day staff was very rude and doesn’t like to be bothered. Room was too cold and control it, even after calling the front office to turn it. We would return with it being turned back on at 22 degrees. We had DND for our entire stay but housekeeper kept entering our room to tidy up. Even after mentioning to the rude front office staff.
Housekeeping start working at 7am. They were making lots of noise on the hall way. We would come back at 2am. Only to be awake. So early.
For the price we paid, I think it wasn’t worth it. Never again that we’ll choose this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - good location very near mrt , room not big but inside facility ok.. 1st night roon not clean but 2nd night better. staff at lobby good and friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful, very close to mrt stations only a few minutes walk, lots of awesome and cheap food options around overall very happy with price, location and staff, rooms are small but air con works great. it’s a good base to go and explore Singapore
- Anil Kumar (8/5): Best hotel for indian 👍👍👍 - Hotel was extremely well. location was awesome. 3 metro station are near . Tikka center, little india within walking distance. indian foods are available nearby. Only things that rooms are very tiny bathrooms good but we feel uncomfortable bcz of transparent glass wall between room and bathroom. little bit weird when you stay with children. And one CON I have noticed. I booked room with windows and git the same but Windows was sealed. we cannot open the windows. than. what it's mean . hotel charge extra money for Windows but when you can not use that ,what it's mean ?
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property is accessible to all transportation nearby
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I stayed in Superior Room. Photo looks much better than the real hotel room. The room's blankets were too thin while it was a bit cold inside. And leather mattress I had was a bit uncomfy to sleep on. Air conditioning was noisy and highly annoying (I couldn't sleep because of that). And you can't turn AC off yourself - you need to call to the front desk.
- Albert (8/5): - The staff were ver helpful and pleasing. Check and and check out was a breeze.
- Md Hasanur (8/5): Customer friendl. - very friendly servic.
- Jee (8/5): - The window panes are translucent, hence there is no view even with window
- Clarence (6/5): - Air con I'd not good, others ok.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Located at city centre
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff is very friendly and helpful. Mrt is very near. No complain. Will definitely stay here next time
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room is too small
- Verified traveler (6/5): :) - Check in was quick and we were allowed to access the room even though we came abt an hour earlier, so thank you :) the remote control wasn’t in the room but when we called reception to ask about it, they sent it to our room quickly. staff were friendly too. only thing was that we thought that since it was an overnight booking, there would be a fridge inside but there wasn’t. so if you’d prefer to have one, it’ll be good to request for it upon booking. but overall i had a good new year’s eve and new year’s day. thank you :)
- Annie (8/5): - Location is very strategic - near to Rochor MRT and Little India Bus stand.
Could improve to remove ants in the room otherwise stay was pleasant.
- LEOW SHEAU (8/5): Great locations hotel - Easy excess to bus stop , cafe , food Centre , malls and tekka walking street .
- pat (6/5): 81 pictures ? - pictures on internet are less than accurate.
- sara (8/5): - They have charging fee for additional bed although requested in advance , room is clean and nice, would be great if you add more South Indian channels to watch.
- Verified traveler (4/5): dirtu - The cups provided in the room was so dirty. both sere stained, yellowish.
- Frank (8/5): Location Win - Located very close to MRT station. Stone throw to Bugis shopping area. Short walk to Bencoolen Hawker Centre.
- S (6/5): - Location was good. It was easy to look for food but bed was too narrow
- Anna (10/5): - good location. helpful staff
- Kayleigh (4/5): - This hotel is in a good location and the rooms are an okay size for what you pay. What's really disappointing is the lack of cleanliness. Ants everywhere, dusty shelves, grime on the light switches and TV remote... Walking around with your shoes off you get stuff stuck to your feet. It needs a really deep clean. I wouldn't stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good location near to MRT and mall. Clean and friendly services.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place, with limited control on A/C - Everything were nice and tidy, but beware that you can't adjust the room A/C by yourself, you have to call the main desk every time you feel the A/C is making the place too cold.
- Khoo (6/5): Rest - Lost my adidas short and didnt manage to find it.
- Emilio (2/5): Bad experience stay - Bad stench in my room like dead rat and I requested to change the room. It's was so bad that I lose interest in this place and for sure won't be coming again to this hotel. Highly not recommended.
- tony (2/5): - Room was like a prison cell, photos heavily photo shopped. Grossly over priced for what was provided. Staff OK check in efficient
- tanvir (6/5): good - this is my 6time in singapore.
i had good experience.
- LISA (8/5): Pleasant enough - We stayed for 2 nights, in superior room and then family room respectively. The amenities are standard for a low cost hotel. One thing to note was there is no closed storage space for luggage/clothing for superior room. There are wall hooks so we made used of those. The staff were friendly and accommodating - I requested for upgrade of room but couldn't make it back by noon to move, yet they showed understanding.
The surrounding is convenient as there's a cheers (7-11 type store) out front and plenty of eateries a street or two across. There is also an MTR station near by. Overall, we're happy with our stay.
- Farah (8/5): Easy to commute - The place are very near to 2 MRT stations. Nearest shopping area is Mustafa Centre (only 7-10mins walking distance/5 mins using grab). And its open 24hrs! Easy to find halal food as well (nearby halal indian restaurants). However, don’t expect the room is spacious as per shown photo. Mind you that this is a budget hotel but suits the best for people who still needs a modern deco style.
Ouh, and the WIFI connection is superb too! Good job!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Cheap but, but not cheerful - Just a little too down market, but with some work could be reasonable value. Owners should upgrade beds and linen. Bathroom is very small and all in one. More like rural Philippines than Singapore.
- Verified traveler (8/5): easy accessebility to transport and everything - for money"s worth its a good hotel. Its cheap.and affordable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice location and convenient - A comfortable and clean stay experienced. Staff was helpful
- James (4/5): Hair, ants, and more hair. - Terribly disappointed with this hotel. The building is an attractive art deco style construction, however once you’re inside things go downhill fast. First off, the entire hotel has opaque green windows that cannot be seen through and cannot be opened. It gives one the feeling of being in prison. Yep astonishingly, the hotel charges a premium for rooms that have windows! The cleanliness of the room is simply unacceptable. It was a great deal of hair on the floor of my hotel room, on the floor of the bathroom, and even some hair in the sheets. I complained to the staff about this, and they sent someone to clean the room again. However, all the cement was sweeping and changing the sheets. I don’t think this hotel even owns a vacuum. Ants were crawling along the floor next to the wall. What is the hotel to do about this? It would be very difficult to spray for bugs when you cannot air out the room given that the windows do not open! The staff offered to switch me to another room, but said that it was the smaller and noisier room ( presumably on the main floor with traffic zooming by). I will awknowlege the positive points of this property. It is located very close to two different metro stops as well as the bus stop. The daytime desk clerk, and I regret not recording his name, was very courteous, friendly, and helpful. He allowed me to check in two hours early.
- Kok Soon (8/5): - Overall alright but room abit small
- See Min (8/5): Locked Windows - I just do not like to be in a room with windows not openable.
- John (10/5): Hotel81 Rocher - Brilliant location with easy access to transport. Staff very friendly and competent. Enjoyed using this place as a base for a few days.
- Verified traveler (10/5): nice low cost hotel - Bed, bathroom, free wifi. Great deal at the price especially for singapore
- Rhoda Ann (2/5): Not good - Very bad stay. Expensive and not worth it.
- Ilmy (8/5): MRT frenly - It was an convincing and convenient MRT access. It’s just we were bother by all the cheap tricks took place at the counter-counter staff and hook-ups ONS. We were wondered if Ronchor 81 Hotel knownly as MaMaSan Hotel’ for the cheap tricks that even happened at hotel passage from MRT😱🤔😔
- Danil (8/5): Tidy & clean to stay - They are true to their listed features.
Services the room like a true hotel. Very clean and replaces towels, bedsheets and toiletties daily.
Highly recommended for trravellers.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing - The room is totally different from the displayed pics, I felt like being deceived. Don't believe the pics showed on the web, they are not true.
- Priyantha (8/5): My short stay in Little India. - It was a pleasant stay at the hotel, staff friendly, even area is good to find restaurants, shopping mauls etc.
- Li (8/5): - Good location, hotel staff very helpful, shopping is just minutes away
- Howard (8/5): Decent hotel centrally located in Singapore - Well located with basic amenities provided in the room e.g. towels, cosmetics. WiFi connection was not very good throughout the hotel, so I resorted using my own data allowance. If I had been staying here for more than one night, I would find this to be an issue
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fits what i need a good clean bed - It was adequate for my purpose. I was a clean bed, convenient location, easy access to food court, safe location, and it delivered. I don't need a whole lot of services. Didn't ask for, didn't look for. Even they have such services, I didn't know.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location budget hotel - Good location just next to metro train station.... do not expect comfort just the normal bed wash TV n wifi.... small but clean rooms
- nesabaskaran (6/5): Nice hotel, was close to little India. - It was a nice hotel room, we got the one with the balcony. If you are looking to go to little india I really suggest this hotel, it's only a minute to walk.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Value for money and ideally situated. - Basic room but very clean and smartly priced in a great and central area. Can't beat the location!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - There was lizard, the room stinks, the floor is sticky.
- Deborah (6/5): Decent experience - I had to pay $45 to check in early, and a lot of hotels ive stayed at never charged me an early check in fee. My room was on the ground floor which turned out to be very loud since it was nearby the front entrance. In the middle of the night the front desk manager was playing music very loudly and around 3 am I had to ask him to turn it down. Never had that experience before. Other than that, the room was clean and comfortable.
- Glen (4/5): Good location, bad hotel - So this hotel is within walking distance to 2 of the most used metro lines where all the touristic stuff is: downtown line and the east west line. Plenty of restaurants within 2-3 blocks distance specially near Bugis.
Pros:
-Location
-Price ( or maybe not.)
Cons:
-Noisy, you can hear everything from other rooms and the janitor walking around being incredibly noisy every single day.
-You will see all types of guest in this hotel, good ones and bad ones. Some people use it for doing their "business".
- Virginia (10/5): - Very near to the metro station
- Nicole (8/5): Excellent location! - Loved the location! So close to the MRT which made it easy from the airport. Rooms a bit smal but that's normal for Singapore. Overall it was great, they just need a better mattress.
- FAJRIANSYAH (6/5): Stay for 2 nites - Enough for short stay and near mrt
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bad Support - I booked this hotel for 3 days and i arrived at the hotel on second day but they said my booking already cancelled and i will be charged for first night and will be refunded to my credit card, but until now there are no refund and they didn't help either to solve my question also i find hardly to ask to Expedia Customer Support
- Benjamin (8/5): DOWNTOWN MRT LINE CLOSE TO HOTEL - VERY GOOD! - We had room 311. Overall I am satisfied with the service and cleanliness. However the bathroom leaked out into the bedroom floor each time we had a shower. It was not via the door but underneath the tiles. I reported it to the front desk on the second morning. The problem was not rectified during our stay of four nights. We had stayed before at Hotel 81 Rochor. This time we noticed the MRT has now crept closer with a DOWNTOWN line terminal close by - Yeah!!!!! :) :) :) And there's a cafe "FUN TOAST" at the MRT station with great service and great breakfast!
- philip (8/5): - Singapore is great. Hotel was adequate for price. Train station almost next door
- Robert (6/5): Had a comfortable stay. - Clean room. Comfortable. Good value for my dollars.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Near to center of the city - Hotel is near to the center of the city. Metro station is also nearby. But, hotel is not very clean. very small room, small beds and rooms are not clean also
- Brian (6/5): Very Small basic room - Hotel is near Little India good location to Rochor LRT 5 min walk. Staff was friendly and helpful! Room was nothing to write home about, small and basic.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Convenient stay - Overall are good except for slight aircond noise and slippery toilet tiles
- Antonius (8/5): good for budget - Hotel Location, near sim lim square, only couple minutes to rochor MRT.
the room is small, good for budget traveler or you only need a place to sleep
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Rooms were not up to standard its ok but we can not recommended to others.
- TRAN (6/5): - Room is in old condition, shower was broken, no slipper inside room, bathroom was too simple, no trash. Too noisy. The best thing is location
- Muhammad Taufik Rajendira (2/5): Just satisfied - Air-condition too cold
Floor very sticky
No cabinet
TV channels very limited
- barak (6/5): - Room has no window to circulate fresh air.
- YC (8/5): Room designed for especially couples, romatic - cosy and quiet. Great for a good rest. Room designed for especially couples. Full of mirrors and translucent glass panel with bathroom, so VERY BRIGHT lightings on the bed when anyone visiting the bathroom in the middle of nite.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bad service - Have to call 3 times just to get a ironing board...
- Hartati (2/5): NOT suitable for family/comfort-seeker - Noisy, smelly, NOT a family-friendly hotel nor a comfortable hotel. Many local couples checked-in to this hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very good close to mrt - Overall is very nice near rochor mrt, bus stop to orchard. And other destination in singapore like marina bay, harbourgrount ...
- Suphakorn (8/5): - First, after check in the room is very Dirty from outside until inside room but when i told reception, she will change room for me but i give her one hour to clean after that everythings ok till i out.
- KK (2/5): Very bad in services - Hotel condition is you pay what you get, but hotel staff never thinks of improvement in term of services, always bla bla bla those rules and regulation, can't even thinks of how to improve their service with practice flexibility while still follow rules and regulation.
They must hotel guest follow rules and regulation, but if they done error, is ok for them, very double standard, like my case, must present passport to check in, but never return my IC after doing check in.
Already mention passport on the way, cant even offer better place for my baby and we all must wait in front door for nearly a hour for passport to reach, and my baby is very tired, and sleep on my mothers lap, I wish to cancel this "BEST" hotel but they mention will charge my credit card, whats in the word you charge me but i cannot get services or produect?HOTEL 81 with Mr Yong(probably manager).
Write email complaint to hotel itself, also bla bla bla those rules and regulation, email complaint also not use due to response manager cover up hotel manager which i complaint, very disappointed service.
