- Latifah (5/5): Poor - The breakfast was good We were asked to wait 10 minutes on arrival despite arriving 2 hours later than the time we said we would be there whilst they made our keys to the room and also rearranged the room because they hadn't set the room up as a twin room as requested. We said we would go and have a walk around and then come back. We came back 4 hours later, the keys to the room were ready however the room was still set up as a double and not a twin. We book two rooms together at the same time and they put us two different ends of the hotel so we were very far apart.

I had mentioned we were travelling for a birthday and they went out if the way to provide some fizz and balloons which was really appreciated We stayed in a club room and the whole room could only be described as dingy, the cushions were stained, the windows dirty, the carpet was threadbare in places

- Paul (6/5): Decent location but certainly not a 4/5 star hotel. 3 at best. - Breakfast was confusing. Was given a menu and told we could have one of the options at the top but would have to pay for alacarte items at the bottom. We should have been told you can help yourself to the buffet items. Maybe it was the language barrier as most of the staff are foreign. Was given an upgrade from a superior double room to a club room. Not really sure if that was an upgrade or not. The club room we were given was room 242 right at the end of a long corridor. Straight away you could hear a humming noise. Looked out of the window and there was an extraction unit which runs continuously. 3 light bulbs were out in the room Couldn't be bothered to complain. The room was very tired and dated looking. I also noted that along the long corridor were 3 fire doors, all open despite blue signs on them saying please keep shut!

- David (4/5): - Significant stain on the floor in my room. They changed rooms for me when I pointed it out, but there was significant wear and tear on the rooms.
- Irene (7/5): Perfect location on a budget - Location was perfect, fantastic breakfast, staff were very welcoming and attentive. These positives far outweighed the negatives listed. Few things were broken in the room - lighting wasn't great, bulbs needed replacing, hot water wasn't hot and water pressure was low.

Good breakfast, something for everyone but busy on weekends. Our rooms were really spacious and clean with everything you could need. Really great hairdryers which is rare in a hotel! Our room was equipped with a mini fridge, iron board and air con and considering we were so central, it was really quiet. I would recommend Little to criticise but some of the furniture needs replacing, looks a little tired and scuffed and room service was a bit erratic in that our kids ( grown ups ) had a complimentary bottle of bubbles in their room but no water, we had a bottle of water but no bubbles and biscuits and tea bags not replenished after our first night stay ( we stayed for 3 nights) but that didn't really bother us

- Freya (8/5): Hotel with British "charme" in the London City area - We spent three nights in this hotel and we really appreciated the staff above all other things. Roshan and Hazera at the reception desk were very helpful. Stefan as well. There was a little misfit with our room when we arrived but the solution was found and we were happy with it. It was our birthday and the staff had prepared a word and other attentions, well appreciated. The breakfast buffet is nice and good quality. Location is not too far from the centre with underground station Moorgate at reach by foot. We could not stop the air condition system which generated a small constant noise. The staff suggested to change rooms but it was ok, so actually it is another good point for the staff :)

- PATRIZIA RAVANELLI (8/5): - Staff gentile e collaborativo. Colazione abbondante e varia anche se con pochi dolci. Vicinanza a Metro e Liverpool station, ottimo se di arriva via Stansted. Camera non molto grande con vista sul palazzo di fronte a poichi metri. Se non ci fosse stato un davanzale interno sotto la finestra non si sarebbe saputo dove appoggiare i bagagli. Quartiere sconsigliato il fine settimana quando la City si svuota e non si trova come cenare se non nei pub dell'hotel. Buon hotel da 4stelle, 5 sicuramente inappropriate.

- Francesco (7/5): Location interessante, in ottima posizione, ma le stanze andrebbero ammodernate - L'albergo si trova in un affascinante edificio, in un quartiere moderno ed elegante, a poca distanza a piedi dalle stazioni di Moorgate, Barbican e Old Street (quest'ultima raggiungibile attraversando un piccolo cimitero antico, molto suggestivo). La colazione, servita in un bel locale, è ricchissima e di ottima qualità (frutta fresca, verdure, salumi e formaggi, brioches e un piatto a scelta preparato su ordinazione). Lo staff è molto gentile e ha soddisfatto ogni nostra richiesta con grande disponibilità. La hall è molto accogliente, ma le stanze necessitano decisamente di un ammodernamento. Lo stile è datato, i mobili hanno segni di usura e non tutto funziona alla perfezione (ad es, le prese USB per la ricarica dei cellulari non funzionavano, la porta del bagno era difettosa, per riscaldare la stanza è servita una stufetta elettrica perché l'impianto non era sufficiente...). Il letto non è comodissimo, perché il materasso è un po' troppo morbido. Considerati i prezzi di Londra, il rapporto qualità/prezzo resta buono, ma sconsiglio l'albergo a chi non ha capacità di adattamento.

Staff were rude when asked about where to find plates, etc. The buffet, access to the main restaurant & access to the kitchen are all in the same place which added to the chaos. The food itself was good, coffee not so much!

The breakfast was very disorganised. I was there 10 minutes before I was asked about coffee or tea. The layout was tricky to manoeuvre with several levels. My table was cleared while I was getting my hot breakfast. Overall not a good dining experience. The food was fine! The accommodation is rather spread out and you have to move outside to get to your block

- LESLEY (9/5): The staff were lovely. Very cheerful and welcoming. Great location. - Brilliant location. Well appointed room. To be honest, the room was cold and didn’t properly warm up all the time we were there despite increasing the temp control. We could have benefitted from an extra blanket for the bed.

- richbham (9/5): Former brewery now a nice hotel - The room was very comfortable, and the hotel is in a fairly quiet neighborhood. Almost every staff member we dealt with was extremely friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast — I’d recommend it. The Jugged Hare pub on the corner is a nice place to eat. There are a LOT of rooms so big groups can make things a bit hectic. For example, one weekend breakfast had just had 200 people show up at once. When we arrived after the onslaught, there were no plates, cups, or bowls, and the staff (most of them) seemed somewhat dazed — and surprised when we asked for a plate or some cutlery. The next morning, everything was fine and breakfast went smoothly.

- casey (8/5): Lovely stay. - Great to be in a historical building. Well appointed facilities. Hot room wouldn’t cool. When the breakfast is busy hotel guests get put in a rather drab and dreary room.
- collier (8/5): Good but not perfect. - Lovely room, staff friendly. No hotel bar so no drinks after 11. Annoying when you come back from going out. Breakfast had become chaotic by 10 on Saturday. A la carte service shut down. Buffet food was good though not warm enough. Bacon on particular was weird and cold. Coffee and tea supply totally inadequate - waitress service only but using one machine for 50 people. The shaving mirror and shower head were partly broken, suggesting nobody actively checks the rooms. There was only a thin duvet and no obvious extra bedding. The room was heated but some people prefer bedding to heating.

- Piazza (9/5): Ottimo hotel, colazione fantastica e camera spaziosa e pulita! - La posizione dell'hotel, vicino a due fermate della metropolitana (Barbican e Moorgate) ed a 15 minuti a piedi dalla stazione di Liverpool street. La zona è tranquilla, ben servita e con molti pub, ristoranti....posizione veramente ottima! In generale mi è piaciuto tutto, unico piccolo neo (se proprio devo trovarne uno...) è il bagno, che era in ordine, pulito ma si vedeva che ha un pò di anni....la doccia era di quelle ricavate dentro la vasca. Comunque tutto pulito e perfettamente funzionante.

We loved the quirky set up with the rooms being located in an unusual style among the setting of an old brewery. We found it difficult to keep the room warm. It would have been better if the bed was a proper double and not to singles pushed together.

- Robin (10/5): We have stayed at the Montcalm Brewery before: service is exceptional ... - We have stayed at the Montcalm Brewery before: service is exceptional; all staff members were positive, cheerful and proactive; the rooms are delightful - clean, well-equipped and well-served, spacious and comfortable; breakfast provides ample good quality options; and the location works very well as a base for business or tourist activity in the 'City' (i.e. financial district) of London. On arrival, there was an issue with our room - personal to us and essentially beyond the control of the Montcalm staff team: it was addressed professionally, courteously, with speed, helpfulness and understanding. Sometimes, in any context, things can go wrong ... what matters is how such challenges are received and addressed: we could not fault the staff team for their superb response and endeavours on our behalf. We will return!

- Mark (7/5): It was disappointing due to the above issues. - Breakfast was good. When we arrived at 5 pm our room was not ready. We were offered a drink whilst we waited but this only arrived when the room was ready. The room also smelt of smoke/ stale cigarettes. We did not complain at the time as we had a deadline to meet for a wedding reception. I did, however, raise it in the morning.
