Guest Reviews
- Luis (8/5): Good for the Basics - Adequate room with all the basics. Comfortable bedding, toiletries, and good lighting. The AC was insufficient for the extraordinary cold last weekend, but under normal circumstances, it is probably enough. WiFi is reliable and front desk provides assistance though limited English support.
- BrunoZ491 (2/5): Smoking is not forbidden - I stayed for one night and I change 4 different times because every room Smells like ash trash, it’s amazing how from the elevator and entire aisle stinks. In 4 different levels.
If you see allergic don’t come to this place it’s awful
- HsuDR (6/5): Good location no frill hotel - My three nieces, my brother and I stayed in three rooms for five nights here.
This is a no frill hotel. Rooms are small but relatively clean. Attached bathrooms are small and just adequate.
The good point about this hotel is its location. Times Square, Huaihai shopping street is just around the corner. Underground rapid transit station is two blocks away. Even Nanjing pesdetrian mall is within walking distance. We walked there a few times, and on the average, it's about 15-20 minutes, depending on the crowds around us.
It is about 15 minutes walk to XinTianDi, the chic district of Shanghai, where you can get very nice Shanghai food in posh restaurants at relatively cheap prices ( convert to US dollars).
Counter staff are just average. Don't expect extra miles. We booked two taxi through the doorman for going to the airport on the nigh of our departure, but the next day, none of the taxi were there, and we had to hail them at roadside.
- bobbyr617 (4/5): Service needs to get better. - The check in took forever as the lady couldn't decide whether my name was in the computer or not. Keep in mind we booked this place nearly a week ago.
Just got into "non-smoking room" and it stinks of smoke. Had to open windows to get the smell out and even then that didn't help... This is quite horrible. Management couldn't help it either. All rooms the same.
- Nic1999 (8/5): convenient location, no-frills hotel - Hotel is in a very good location, Dashijie metro station is just 5min walk.
People's Square easily reachable 5-10min walk.
No english spoken by staff, check-in/out operations sometimes not easy, expecially because of that crazy mechanism of the deposit that needs to be paid and will be refund.
Breakfast was not included in my room, you get it with 28RMB, but it's a pure chinese breakfast. Nearby many places where you can have continental breakfast.
No frills at all in the room: simple and somehow clean.
Standard rooms are on the street side, and it's sometimes noisy.
Budget accomodation in convenient location.
- patrickd802 (8/5): Great, if you speak the language! - To keep it short, this hotel is a very good value for the money, metro station is very close-by, shopping malls are well within walking distance as well. Only hiccup for me is that I do not speak mandarin very much and I needed my significant other to translate or speak for me to the hotel staff. I do not think any of them know much English. But from my experience in China, if you do not speak mandarin or go with someone who does, you are not going to have a superb time as most do not speak English.
Overall the hotel room we got was fairly spacious considering the price and location. Would book again if I was going to Shanghai again, although I might consider other hotels as well.
- RegE608 (8/5): Value for money but come prepared for language problems - Prior to coming to the hotel, we wanted to find out how to get there. The hotel is a little difficult to find in Google Maps (there are 2 but the other one is incorrect). The easiest way to get to the hotel from Pudong is via the metro or maglev-metro (if it's still open when you arrive). The nearest metro station is Dashijie (line 8). You have to exit near Family Mart, turn left toward McDonald's and then go up the escalator. Outside, walk to the left then at the first intersection turn right. You should reach another intersection (cross that), the Inn would be the 3rd building on the left (in front of hair salon). We arrived late thus metro was closed so we decided to get a shuttle at the airport. The price we got for 4 people was 550, which seemed fair but then when we got to the hotel the driver pulled out a card saying we had to pay a 15% service charge! Don't be duped by the same scam. Maybe easier to take a taxi.
We had a Mandarin speaking friend so check in was easier, but we tried to transact in English first to no avail. They have these cue cards on the reception which have basic questions you can probably use if you have no one in your party who can speak Mandarin. Hotel is secure, you can only access the floor where your room is on the elevator. Rooms are quite basic but is clean. There is free wifi but be prepared to use Yahoo or any other search engine instead of Google. Google sometimes works but more often than not it doesn't. There's free bottled water, tea, shampoo/soap combo, toothbrush kit and hair dryer. Very basic but worth it if you don't plan on staying in your room all day. They allowed us to check out at 1pm so they are flexible.
Location is very central. The Dashijie station is a 5 min walk. From there Nanjing road, Yuyuan and other sites are just 1 or 2 stations away. I suggest you download Explore Shanghai app, was very useful for getting around.
There's a bunch of food stalls on Yunnan if you're adventurous and also Lawson, Family Mart, Tesco Express (convenience stores) that's open 24 hours. Starbucks is 2 min away, Mc Donald's on the Dashijie station. We also found out that there's a bunch of people selling street food late at night near the Dashijie station.
Near the hotel, you can walk towards Huaihai for the more upscale malls with City Super, Lane Crawford, Sephora. There is also a digital plaza in Huaihai. You can also take the metro towards South huangpi then walk along Huaihai all the way back to the hotel.
Overall, aside from language issues (which to be fair you will encounter EVERYWHERE in Shanghai), this is a great hotel for budget travelers.
- Canboy (6/5): No Frills - No English
We booked this hotel in advance but the hotel cancelled our reservation because we came in late due to traffic. And so we ended up paying the published rate.
Rooms are very basic, no luxury at all. Bathroom is small. You get what you pay for. Location is nice. 10 minutes walk to the metro station. 3 minutes to Huaihai Road where you can find shopping malls. Yuyuan Garden is also nearby. I hate the wifi.
- JazzAbelle01 (6/5): Very Average, but Ok. - The Junking Inn is a decent hotel for the price. The rooms are cleaned daily, bottled water left, tea and a teapot as well. The breakfast is halfway decent, just no variety and the coffee is machine-made. The staff is ok, well try to speak English, WiFi in the rooms, and near a great noodle place.
- bajnaj (6/5): Good for back packers - A neat little safe and comfortable hotel for budget travelers. Rooms are clean with attached wash room which are serviced daily. Laundry service is over night and a bit costly. Amenities are rather of minimum standard. Family mart and ATM are located nearby and at a walking distance. A higher floor is recommended. Metro line is within a couple of minutes walk. Public transport is easily available.
- letsfika-trip (8/5): Good value thoughtful hotel - Service:
The staff are fairly by-the-book, typical of larger hotel chains. Most are friendly and helpful, despite my broken mandarin. There was some confusion with the deposit and the elevator keys when one of the seemingly more senior staff was not as pleasant.
Room:
The room is spacious for the price, clean and comfortable. It is fairly well stocked with slippers, toothbrushes, combs, etc. The decor is pleasant but basic. It's on-par with most well-known business hotel chains for a lot less.
Location:
The hotel is only a few minutes walk to the closest subway station. It is fairly walking distance (approx. 15-20 min) to many sightseeing attractions.
- careren (10/5): Value for money! - Stayed 1 night in this hotel but wished I could have stayed longer! Checked in past midnight but there were staff on one who processed my check-in very promptly.
The room was very spacious and clean. The room had facilities like a water boiler and hairdryer too! Was expecting the bare minimum for the price I paid for the room.
Location was good, with food hawkers along the street easily accessible to grab food for breakfast. A supermarket was nearby and the nearest train station was 2 junctions(5-10 mins) away.
Definitely will come back if I do return tp Shanghai.
- HappyTraveller60 (10/5): Cheap, clean, nice, decent area - My sister and I stayed here in June 2012 and were pleasantly surprised at how nice the interior was and how clean and spacious the room was. They provided a kettle, toothbrushes, toothpaste, comb and slippersand a soap dispenser in the ample sized shower. Quiet. We had to give them 200yuan, from which they deducted 25 yuan (less than $4) each for breakfast and then gave us back the change when we were leaving. The staff speak little English, but we managed to find our way around by pointing to maps . The metro is clean, fast and efficient and the nearest one to the hotel is called Dashijie. When you go out of the hotel turn right then left at the second street on the left; cross over the road and the station is up a little way under the McDonald's sign. Must see in Shanghai is the Yuyuan Gardens, which is fabulous, the Bund, but go at night time and if you get off the metro at the Science and
Technology Station there is a huge market right there. Someone took us exactly where we wanted to go to buy various things. Loved Shanghai! People speak very little English so have some translations with you and a decent map! Enjoy!
- Kuromi_26 (8/5): Great Value - good location! - Stay at Jinjiang Inn was fab....very convenient location just at the start of Huaihai Road and also in the middle of Yunnan Lu Food street. tried many good local food around the hotel.....
U have famous Jianbao, cold dish chicken, hotpot places all around. also a lamb kebab stall where everyone is queuing. for breakfast, the cafe next door is not bad.
The hotel is also a short walk to the old town where u can explore the morning markets where you see local culture and life. very interesting! U can say this location is near both the new and old shanghai.
Its in the heart of town and all the places of interests are easily accessible by taxi here. dun bother to take the subway nearby, because everything is really quite near by cab:)
rooms - spacious, clean, modern.....the value at 300rmb/night is unbeatable. front desk service is also fine. free internet access in the lobby :)
- dew168 (6/5): Stay at the hotel - Budget hotel with good location. About 15 mins taxi ride to XinTianDi if you are a party goer, this hotel would be ideal for you. There is no wifi inside the room except at the common area downstairs. You would need a laptop to surf internet inside the room. The Inn only provide disposable paper cups. Have suggested to the Inn if they can consider to include the bed blankets, spoons and cups (not the disposable type) which travellers can wash the cups after using. Easy access to a few places of interest which I did not have much time to explore as it's just a 2 days' stay at the Inn.
- World Traveler (8/5): Overall nice, cheap, clean budget hotel - Softest bed in China (beds are usually VERY hard, theirs moderately soft). Chinese friend said JinJiang is clean throughout China. She was right, it was clean, laminated floor helped. Non smoking floors. Location was great. HuaiHai East Rd and others bus stops very close. #8 metro two blocks away. Lots of local food near by. Very helpful staff, but not sure if they speak English. Wi-fi in lobby, unless you ask for a plug-in for room. No frig. Overall nice, cheap, clean budget hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): CLEAN , great Location - i enjoyed my stay here, location, cleanliness good. Simple, not much bells and whistles, no internet in the room unless you have rj45 cable. BEST VALUE for location.
- DA (10/5): Excellent value and good location - The breakfast buffet is also goood value. Good variety and very clean. The only area for improvement will be more English TV. There is only 1 English out of 40 Chinese TV channels. The room exceeded my expectation. It's clean, safe and quiet air conditioner.
- Tomt (8/5): Adequate for a short stay - Recently stayed here for 2 nights...staff is not particularly friendly, but they were efficient. Rooms were fairly large for an inexpensive Shanghai hotel. Rooms were clean and spartan. Walking distance to the "Bund". I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): convenient location - hotel is walkable distance to many malls
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect base - Simple and straight forward service offering. You know what you will get for a good price.
We needed a good base for our stay in Shanghai: clean room, a good bed, good shower and toilet and central in the city close to public transport. All boxes were ticked.
Breakfast was genuine Chinese, which meant for us (more western orientated) that is was a a little too localised. But there are multiple alternatives nearby. So if you need a good base without other thrills, this a perfect place to go.
- Charlotte (6/5): Great value for money - Nothing special, but good value for money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cheap central hotel with everything you need. - Well situated and nice price. Right in the middle of everything. The room was ok but clean and tidy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good Location, bring your own shampoo and body wash - From Shanghai Pudong International Airpor --> MAGLEV TRAIN(cost $50,$40 with Public Transportation Card) + Metro Line2+ Metro Line8(cost $4)+Walk -->Hotel, about 1hr
24hrs cafe & bakery, 24hrs supermarket, ,many restaurants, banks, 3C department stores near by
Please bring your own shampoo and body wash, it's better not to use them from the hotel.
Bring a laptop, there is Internet LAN Cable in the room (free). Otherwise, you can use the PC in the lobby.
FB on PC is blocked by China, you can go FB from your 3G mobile phone.
- Laura (6/5): Clean, new, well located, but no English - Good location. The room was very clean and had all the basics we need to expend a confortable night. Everything was new. The towels were very thin, but they did the job. We had LAN internet conection in the room.
NO ONE spoke English! So we could not find help for writing down directions for taxi drivers or any recommendation from the hotel staff. They did not have maps of the city in English, only Chinese, this also made things a little more complicated.
- HaHaHaHeHeHe (10/5): Great budget hotel for a comfortable stay. - I stayed here for 4 nights over the 2011 new year holidays in a standard room. From the moment I entered the hotel, i had been impressed by the hotel and its service staff. Despite its cheap room rates, the hotel has been professionally managed with a clean interior and nice cosy rooms. All areas within the hotel was spot-clean and looked new and this alone justified the costs that I paid for the stay.
Although the standard room is a little small, I did not feel uncomfortable. The room is well-lit with all the essential equipment including airconditioning, hairdryer, television. Two bottles of water were provided free each day.
The location of the hotel is good and it is a five minute walk from the nearest metro station. This station is just a stop from the People's Square station, an interchange that connects 4 metro lines. It is close to many restaurants including Mcdonalds and some that serve traditional chinese cuisines like xiao long bao.
Overall, the hotel has indeed exceeded my expectation. It is a 3 star hotel that provided a 5 start stay.
- arestocracy (8/5): Great room, great price! - Stayed here for 3 nights in October (10th floor), and liked it so much we came back when we stayed for 6 nights in November (9th floor). The stay on the 10th floor seemed slightly better than the stay on the 9th, but both rooms were very new, very clean, and very well-kept.
Toothbrush and toothpaste, paper cups, bottled water, and disposable slippers provided and replaced daily. Bring your own conditioner, but they do have a combination shampoo/body wash for you to use. Hair dryer, electric water kettle, A/C in room. Secure: Touchless room cards operate the elevators, and automatically select your floor. Wired internet is available in rooms. WiFi (ask front desk for password) and an internet-connected computer (standing only) are available in the lobby. Housekeeping staff is very friendly and courteous.
Location is wonderful - many decent restaurants and shopping in the area, and no problem wandering around even after dark. Dasijie Station on #8 subway line is a few blocks away, no sweat. If you like walking, though, People's Square, Shanghai Museum, and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street aren't too far away. If you need a cab, the corner of Huaihai East/Yunnan South is a good place to flag one down.
Clientele seems a mix of domestic and international travelers (more domestic).
Things to note: Hotel name is "Jinjiang Inn," as in jinjianginns.com . 10th floor is only accessible via one of the two elevators. Maximum one key card issued per room. The bathroom inexplicably pools a bit of water in strange locations - not enough to be a bother. A few mosquitoes, probably let in when housekeeping props the door open to clean the rooms.
- ChinaHand2008 (8/5): Great budget option in central Shanghai - If you are looking for budget accommodation in central Shanghai (Puxi) you can't do much better than this hotel. It is very clean and offers good value.
The service isn't great but you get what you pay for and the people are at least very friendly.
Breakfast is extra and Chinese style so you may want to walk to the closest Starbucks (only 5 minutes walk from the hotel on Huaihai Road).
If you are looking for a great place to eat dinner try Bellagios on Taicang Road. It's about 20 minutes walk or 10 min by taxi. It is very close to Xintiandi. It's a popular place with locals serving great Chinese food.
Tip:
- If you are staying for a longer period you may benefit from buying a membership card that gives you a discount on the room rate. Ask in the reception when you check in.
- Some of the larger rooms only cost a few dollars (US) more per day and are significantly larger. If you need more space, this may be a good option.
- screen2name (6/5): Clean budget hotel in good location but had bad room - We had two std rooms and each room has kettle, TV, free internet, phone, desk, slipers, paper cups, tea bags, table and chairs - no closet, drawers nor in room safe. One double bed and one twin bed in std room. Avg size room and bathroom compared to others in China. A clean budget hotel with a good location. Hotel fairly new and had keycard for elevator or your floor access only, so don't know how a sex service business card got slipped through our door. Moonlighting staff, perhaps. Our toilet is always clogged but the other room that my parents stayed in had no problem - must be our luck. Requested a room not facing the street and was able to get some quiet sleep. Street traffic is too noisy early in the morning. Restaurant on site and offers Chinese buffet breakfast and other meals. Location is good, walking to subway in 10 mins, 20 mins to the bazzar and Yuyuan garden. Taxi from Maglev to hotel is $33 rmb. Front entrance is small but hotel is fairly new. Modern, simple decor and best of all very affordable for Shanghai. $300 rmb per room per nt and can sleep 3 (two adults and 1 child). Service not so good, was told one thing by one and something else by another. English not very fluent.
