- Jan (10/5): - Excellent location in a nice neigborhood
Good value for
money
- Passenger60424845236 (10/5): Charming boutique hotel surrounded by green - Gorgeous boutique hotel in the French concession quarter of Shanghai. Great location to explore city on bikes or foot ; stunning old building with lush garden. Rooms are basic but absolutely up to standards and very clean. Staff very kind and it’s not too complicated to communicate in English with them.
Breakfast mostly Chinese.
The incredible charm gives this place 5 stars.
- Nicolas (9/5): Recomendable para conocer Shangai - Muy lindo hotel y buena ubicación El desayuno podría tener mas opciones
- Kristin (9/5): Perfect venue to discover Shanghai on foot - The location is perfect ; surrounded by green , quiet and very easy to access all on foot For travelers used to European food the breakfast was a little basic
- Catherine Yanwen (7/5): A short stay - Location Feels a bit understaffed. Especially the housekeeping staff.
- MIN JOO (10/5): -
- Péter (9/5): - Csodálatos környezetben, elegáns szálloda. Csend, nyugalom a francia negyed központjában. Kiváló reggeli. Nincs szekrény, tároló a szobában. Néhány szerelvény elhasználódott az egyébként elegáns fürdőszobában..
- Anna (10/5): - Удобное место расположение. Просторный и уютный номер. Персонал говорит по английски

- Helle (9/5): - Klassisk, historisk, koselig hotell. Super beliggenhet! -
- Ambra (9/5): Great value for money, amazing location and loved the green outside - Great location, very quiet and in the green. We had a lovely room, very spacious with a balcony (we could see Pudong in the distance). Breakfast was very abundant with so many options. Staff was great: we had an issue, they solved it within minutes. Garden was kept at its best. Would be great to make our own breakfast tea. Not always easy to communicate with the reception.
- Anna (9/5): Lovely comfortable hotel in a charming neighbourhood - It’s a low rise beautiful building, large room, comfortable beds, very friendly staff, solid breakfast! Not really much
- Roberto (10/5): -
- Mary (8/5): - Lovely hotel, great breakfast with a good selection of Chinese and Western foods (pastries, freshly cooked eggs etc)
- rodney (8/5): - Great location and staff excellent
Room with balcony very nice Nothing
- Charles (9/5): Wonderful romantic getaway made possible by a wonderful attentive staff. - The staff made our visit extra special. They helped me prepare a bouquet of flowers to surprise my wife for our anniversary and our room was amazing, with a great view and wonderful balcony. The staff's flexibility and responsiveness was really special. The location was excellent and enabled us to walk all around the French Concession or take the metro wherever we needed to go. Next time I go to Shanghai I will plan to stay at the Fenyang Garden Hotel. The mattresses were a bit harder than I normally like, but I know some people prefer that. It was still very comfortable and my wife and I both slept great in the quiet and spacious room.

- Roam217241 (8/5): Quiet Shanghai hotel - The location is great as it’s located quietly from the road. It’s a hotel that hosts weddings during the weekends so it can be a bit more noisy then. Good sized rooms, when it’s cold they are a bit cold too.
The staff don’t speak English very well, except one of them.
The best thing with the hotel is its location, close to all the restaurants and shopping.
- Chris (8/5): Very good -

- travelworld1170 (6/5): Beautiful garden, but you can find nicer rooms in the same area… - As a former resident of the neighborhood who travels back quite a bit, I’ve stayed at many of the historic (or sequels) hotels in the area - Donghu, Garden, Jinjiang, Manxin Huaihai, Intercontinental Ruijin, Henghshan Madie Villa, the not foreigner accepting Julu Garden Villa, etc. We’d never made it to Fenyang before this as had heard somewhat mixed things, and the price never seemed that competitive (not a huge gap, but not cheap either). After a weekend stay this time - I can say while glad we finally visited, we won’t feel the need to come back. The garden was nice (and had free parking plus electric vehicle charging, convenient), the lobby of the hotel certainly had a good atmospheric (though heavily renovated) feel to it….the room ultimately wasn’t that heavily renovated. From an overhead shower metal valve that fell off when I tried to use it, to not having power outlets next to the bed (or even an effort to provide them via an extension cord), to a somewhat lumpy mattress….I just don’t think the base rooms here can justify the price, relative to the competition. The rooms just felt old and somewhat dated (despite a claim on Ctrip of a 2019 renovation? Maybe only touched higher-end rooms). The room did have a nice balcony….and breakfast was ok (decent wonton and noodle options, plus a buffet)….but still. For better rooms but without actually being in a historic building (it’s a rebuild in a convenient site), I’d recommend the Manxin - but spend a little bit more than the base rooms to get a bit more space (probably still cheaper than Fenyang?) - Yaduo might be an option too. For truer history with nicer room renovations at a similar price, try Donghu - I just find the historic feel, and the update of the rooms, much stronger there (but avoid the cheaper guesthouse building). Intercontinental or Radisson have even nicer gardens and branded experiences, but room quality can vary…
- Norwegiansunlovers (8/5): Boutique hotel with peaceful garden - I found this hotel when looking for a hotel located within walking distance from Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai.
Good points: fantastic location of Hotel, located next to a garden. My rooms had a balcony with view over garden. Peaceful and quiet in the middle of Shangahi! In one direction from hotel you are close to major street with restaurants and several shopping malls.
Directly out on the street in the other direction is the music conservatory, where you hear music streaming out toward hotel in the afternoons and small shops and several coffee shops.
Spacious rooms, comfortable beds.
Shower in the bathtub, medium strength water in shower.
Lobby is fancy, and we watched two weddings hosted at hotel while we stayed there.
A gym is located in separate building, seems newly renovated, but no showers or changing rooms in gym.
Breakfast was not included and was ca 100 yuan. More Chinese oriented with a self serving coffee machine , with so and so coffee. But omelet service, good juices. But not a luxury variant of breakfast.
Overall: The peaceful location and being able to enjoy sitting on the balcony makes you want to come back to this peaceful, beautiful and friendly-staffed boutique hotel. Can be warmly recommended!
- Mahlerintheparlour (8/5): An unusual business hotel - Set in a Spanish-style mansion in the heart of Shanghai's French Concession, the Fenyang Garden is a welcome surprise. There is a restful feel to the building, which is bordered by a tranquil garden. The rooms are a nice size; there's a gym and a tennos court, but no swimming pool. The only downside: a meagre, old-fashioned breakfast buffet wth poor service and little choice,
- Joanne-Yolande-B (10/5): Great place to stay - I highly recommend this hotel for its great location, amazing lobby, and beautiful rooms. The price for what you get is extremely reasonable. We stayed here at the end of our three weeks in China and couldn't have picked better!
- Suyinmak (8/5): Elegant hotel in convenient location - This hotel is in a converted 1930's grand villa in a tree-lined side street off the Huaihai Road in the former French concession area, and opposite the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. The former villa has a private garden (so the rooms are set back from the road and very quiet), as well as a now-deconsecrated private chapel (which is often hired out for weddings). The rooms are clean, spacious and elegantly decorated - the balcony is especially nice. Location is excellent: though Fenyang Road is quiet, once you get to Huaihai Road (a main thoroughfare) there are lots of shops and restaurants, and a big shopping mall (iapm). There is a Western-style supermarket (City Super) in this mall. The mall also connects to a stop on the No. 10 metro line, which is very convenient as this line connects directly to the Hongqiao Airport. On the other side of Huaihai Road is a side street called Donghu Road which has lots of Western-style bars. Since I last visited in 2016 he hotel is now completely non-smoking. Room price is very reasonable. Breakfast is a buffet with mostly Chinese food, but there are adequate Western selections (omelette station, bread, yoghurt, fresh fruit etc).
Drawbacks:
1. Wifi is extremely slow and you have to use your passport number every time you log on. Better to buy a roaming card before entering China.
2. Exercise facilities are minimal (treadmill and stationary bike that look like they haven't been used for years, in a sad musty room). But there is a nearby park for jogging in the morning.
- Taipeibettys (10/5): Quiet location, old-world elegance - If you've spent time Shanghai, you will appreciate the serene location and classic style of this hotel in a city that is teeming with noisy crowds and cold steel-and-glass architecture. Fenyang Garden Hotel sits nestled between commercial streets like Huaihai lu and the quieter, tree-lined blocks of Xuhui. Through windows open to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music across Fenyang Road, we fell asleep to the sounds of different instruments at night. Marvelous.
The hotel rate was extremely reasonable, the rooms nicely appointed. Hotel staff were all so helpful and courteous. The only drawback of the hotel is that it claimed but clearly did not enforce a no smoking policy. Over five days and four nights, cigarette fumes wafted throughout the halls, and signs threatening CNY$30,000 fines were a bit absurd. Perhaps the hotel could find a happy medium and offer genuine nonsmoking floors for guests who care deeply?
- AspenWicki (10/5): My Favorite Hotel in Shanghai - Shanghai is a great, bustling, exciting city! It literally never stops! Which is why I love the Fengyang Garden hotel! Just a few hundred feet from the heart of the French Concession, the hôtel is set in its own secluded private park; returning to the hôtel each evening, it’s like turning off the frenetic city and stepping into a world of tranquility that barely exists any more.
Only a few floors high, and just across from the music school, this stately hotel stands in stark contrast to most of the gigantic glitzy-ness of most of Shanghai.
Oh, yes; it had all the modern amenities of any other first class hotel in the city: air conditioning, luxury amenities, a really good sized bathroom complete with bathrobes and slippers. But it beats the others with a manner that says class and quality without ostentation.
Does it have any drawbacks? Just a few: although it’s cotton better, the free wifi is still slow and erratic. And their hotel laundry pricing is ridiculous even by hotel standards.
Would I return; ABSOLUTELY!
- borgcasa (8/5): location - The hotel is a ittle old but absolutly to high standard. It is a small oasis in the middle of the French area of Shanghai. It is totaly quiet, large rooms. Breakfast is simple but OK. Prices for the rooms are good and the location of the hotel is in the middle of hundreds of restaurnats and bars
- stylites (10/5): A Great Facility for several purposes - This is a great hotel in which to use clean restroom facilities right in the middle of Shanghai. It's also a very relaxing lobby and bar for a quiet drink. The Shanghai Conservatory area, nearby the intersection of Fuxing and Fenyang roads, is lovely to walk around with old shops selling and fixing instruments as well as a great bar called Union Trading Company and unique shops including menswear retailer NOOS and Shanghai's top fashion resale shop Pawnstar. The Conservatory itself features buildings dating back to the early 20th Century but is also one of the top too music schools in China.
- BPK123 (10/5): Charming hotel opposite Shanghai Conservatory of Music - Stayed 2 nights in April 2017. A charming hotel opposite Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Decor was dated in the room but was clean and comfortable. Breakfast room was small and food was ok. I like the driveway leading to the hotel building.
- wineguynz (10/5): Tranquil Shanghai - What a great spot in the middle of bustling Shanghai. The staff are very helpful and it's easy walking distance to the French concession and the designer hub of Shanghai. It's also located next to a classical music school and the sounds of Opera were a nice touch when sitting on the balcony.
- Whale_JW (8/5): Good Hotel - Was there for a business trip, we had our training there. Hotel was good, food in the restaurant was good also, I especially like their breakfast where they provide really a variety of fruits. But they didnt always have display of food name which can be quite difficult for us as some of us do not take pork, and beef for some others. Hotel wifi was ok for me but some of my colleagues complaint that their room wifi signal was not strong enough. Hotel room was clean, quite large room. The hotel was situated on a very nice road, at least 2 LRT stations within walking distance but not when you are having your luggage...
- storkonwheels (10/5): Great choice and good location for Shanghai - This is a great choice for a stay in Shanghai. The location in the French Concession is very good, and the hotel is a 5-minute walk to the Metro, large malls, small shops, restaurants, and bars. Getting around Shanghai on the Metro is easy and gets you to most points of interest in the city.
The hotel is lovely, with large guest rooms and a beautiful entrance and front desk area. The rooms are well-appointed with nice amenities in the good-sized bathroom. There is a mini fridge and a counter area for brewing tea or coffee with the hot pot provided in the room. A nice desk for your laptop and a small table with comfy chairs make the room even more usable. We particularly noticed and liked the overlapping blackout curtains to keep the room dark in the early morning hours. The room also is equipped with a flat-screen TV, a nice bench for your suitcase, a dresser with drawers and a fairly large closet. Although located on a rather busy street, the hotel is quiet because it is set back from the street inside a pleasant courtyard with trees. We did not try the hotel restaurant, so we have no comment on that.
The front desk staff is warm and friendly. However, they do not have much knowledge of the area nor are they of much help at all regarding local attractions or locations of anything outside the hotel. For instance, we asked about bike rentals and they had no idea where to rent bikes. A quick internet search showed that there was a bike rental place a matter of blocks from the hotel. Similarly, they had no knowledge about the Arts and Crafts Museum which is supposed to be across the street from the hotel. Overall, a wonderful stay at this hotel, but do your own research on local attractions.
- Daybreak1229 (8/5): The location is great! - Convenient location! The shopping mall iAPM is just 8 mins walk from hotel. Rooms are spacious however the wifi connection doesn't seem to be stable especially at night time between 9 PM to 1 AM. The staff was not helpful at all and no one helped me on my luggage.
- 267katys (8/5): Location location - Excellent location, quietly located but within very short walking distance from neighborly local stores on one side and mega mall on another. Many restaurants, bars and coffee shops and the neighborhood itself is very good for strolling. Beautiful trees on all sides.
- 77nicolasg (10/5): City trip in Shanghai - Perfect location in the heart of the former french concession. Very good restaurants in the neighboorhoud. Rooms are nice and service is also good. I would definitely recommend this place where you will be in the center of Shanghai while being able to enjoy quiet nights because of the location inside a small garden
- Beijing2014 (6/5): Super location, staff so-so - Nice hotel, extremely convenient location. Walking distance to great parts of the French Concession and to shopping malls etc.
Hotel staff in general friendly and nice but some are bit rude and unhelpful.
- 65yantingy (8/5): Quiet in the city - Loved the Fenyang Park Hotel. It's located in a beautiful little park, in the middle of the French Concession. So you get some decent sleep and wake up in a park, then go out and throw yourself in bubbly and busy Shanghai. People are very nice, service is very good. Breakfast could be better for Western taste, but is good for Chinese taste buds. And if else, just go outside and get breakfast at one of the many little restaurants outside. Best feature is however, their beds. I used to find almost every aspect of a hotel more important than the beds, but over the years with a lot more travelling experience I have come to appreciate deeply a simple good bed. This hotel has awesome beds, beds I would like to have at my own home. So you'll sleep well guaranteed.
- 761margp (8/5): First ripped off by taxi - Do not take so called Taxi from airport arrival level... they are rip off artists even though spoke perfect English. Regular taxi fare would have cost 20.00 US but were taken for 65.00 and driver demanded tip! Our own fault even though we had hotel directions in Chinese written down, taken for a ride!!!
- saismbn (8/5): Great location, beautiful hotel, expensive breakfast - This was my first time in Shanghai for business. The company booked this hotel. I could've stayed here for another week! Here are the specs:
Location: It's right in the French Concession, opposite the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. It's nice to walk out in the evenings, and hear students practicing their singing and on their instruments. The closest subway stop is Shaanxi South, on Huahai Road, which has tons of shopping. The hotel itself is quite beautiful - a lovely garden, big, spacious rooms and easy to get to.
Rooms: Clean, comfortable beds. Only Chinese TV except for CNN and BBC. Free wifi, big breakfasts at 98 RMB (US$30), but plentiful. English is not widely spoken with the hotel staff.
Food: I only had breakfast here, because within walking distance there are plenty of restaurants - on Donghu Road, and Yongkang Road near Yongjia. That's a street of bars, coffee shops and restaurants frequented by expats and young Shanghainese.
Overall, I'd say it's a four-star hotel. Quiet, clean, a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of Shanghai.
