- dhampton (2/5): Room not available and refund issues - Booked a quadruple room (one double bed, two singles) through Expedia. Arrived at the hotel and was given a standard room with a double bed without apology and pretending it was the correct room. Had to find alternative accommodation. Hotel also made refund through Expedia problematic.
- markcS2089ZQ (10/5): A perfect place to stay - Booked Hotel Torre Guelfa as I liked the look of the romantic rooms. Our classic room 305 was fabulous with window shutters that gave us the perfect sleep. Coffee and tea in the room, shower gels in the bathroom, hair dryer, and a shower/bath tub. No iron in the room although I suspect you can get one from reception. By reception there are extra coffees, teas and milks should you run out. It is in the most perfect location in Florence, with all the major sites on your doorstep. Best of all the hotel has its own tower to admire the views of the city, Duomo, and sunsets. Around sunset times it gets busy even in February with bar service up till 8pm, it was open to go up and sit after 8. Breakfast was magnificent, on our first day we needed to be up early and there was so much food. A wide choice of pastries, fruit, juices, cakes, hot food and so much more. Choice of freshly made coffee and all the special milks should you need them. Florence should be walked its streets aren’t made for cars and getting a taxi is expensive and a waste of time. Picking a hotel in the historic centre is a must and this one was amazing. Splash out on one of their best rooms, Florence is beautiful, but once you have been here you will want to see other Italian cities.
- ClausM24 (4/5): Charming hotel with completely indifferent staff and service. - Stayed here when my wife and I were married in Firenze 25 years ago and came back to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We informed the hotel about this and asked if we could stay in the same room as back then. Also emailed the hotel several times with questions about the tower bar and they completely ignored all emails. When we arrived, they had taken no notice whatsoever of our situation and not only ignored the occasion completely, but gave us the darkest hotel room we have ever stayed in.

The breakfast attendant was so amazing- she remembered what we ordered and was a very bright light each morning. Our room, 309, was a bit dark and had no mirror. There was a mirror in the bathroom of course. Ironically there were so many mirrors everywhere but none in our room. We were able to even walk to the train station which was very easy and doable. Beautiful location. Would recommend.

- Ellie (10/5): - This hotel was beautiful, hands down one of our favourites of the trip! The highlight if this hotel has to be the bell tower! With a terrace and bell tower serving drinks in the evening with panoramic views of Florence you can’t go wrong! The staff were polite and welcoming ensuring we had directions for our time in Florence. The hotel had period features which added to its character. The room we stayed in had high ceilings and four post bed and had a separate room with a sofa lounge area and a bathroom. The room was spotless and quiet in the evenings. Breakfast was lovely the pastry options were different everyday and were fresh. They also had a continental option. We will definitely be returning.

- Hatbox (8/5): Delightfully eccentric - I stayed in room 315 that has its own large roof terrace. The only problem is that the staircase to the bedroom is extremely steep and narrow. Definitely not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The decor is charmingly eccentric. My room came with a complimentary copy of a novel written by the owner . The breakfasts are excellent. A perfect location. Charming staff. Definitely worth the experience.

- denishab2025 (6/5): Decent, charming, ac issues - I came here and stayed for my trip to Florence. Location is great as it’s in the middle of a tourist paradise. Everything is very walkable and it’s in a lovely historic building. The hotel is incredibly spotless, my room was super clean which made me feel very good. The rooms inside are older and has much of a vintage charm. Some may think this is darling, if you are into modern this isn’t for you. I had issue with the air as Florence is incredibly hot in September and there is no air through out the hotel or your room. My room on my first night was so bad that they couldn’t move me and offered a 5 foot fan which was nice. I switched rooms the next day (334 is a great room) and then back to another room which was a pain to move 3 times but it was nice they are accommodating. The water also doesn’t drain well in the rooms from the sink and shower. Secondly the eating area is lovely with a plentiful breakfast however be aware there is no air and it’s a bit warm up there while eating. The rooftop is amazing and allows you see the entire city from there. It’s cozy, quiet and magical. Overall it was a decent stay, the hotel staff will be memorable for me but I would stay some place more modern and ac comfy.

The cleanining was below satisfaction, but huge plus for changing linnens. The top terrace is nice but the cairs are only metal thus very uncomfortable. Each of the rooms were large and comfortable. The hotel includes breakfast and offers recommendations for other meals. We enjoyed our stay, and the price was good for what was offered. - wc9828 (10/5): A unique experience - On our return visit to Florence, we once again booked the Torre Guelfa. The "unique" is its rooftop terrace with a commanding view of the city. The tower with the terrace if one of the tallest private buildings in Florence. In the evening, there is bar service. The hotel has an expansive and very good breakfast. It also located in close proximity to the river and the major sites - easy walking distances. Yet, in our estimation it is the tower that is the draw. The rooms are nothing special but we hear that #315 is unique with its own terrace. If you are looking for a 4-star hotel experience, this is not the one for you. We don't understand the draw of a fancy hotel when you have what Torre Guelfa has.

It’s an old palazzo that has been converted so lots of stone steps and very quirky dining hall for breakfast and viewing tower. Our room had everything you need and great aircon. Very pleasant staff everywhere.

- 906beckyv (10/5): Great wonderful vacation spot - We recently stayed at the Hotel Torre Guelfa with two other couples for four nights on or recent two week trip to Italy. This was my husband and my third time staying at the Torre Guelfa. We stayed in Room 315 which is by far the finest room in the hotel - includes a large rooftop patio with incredible views. (This was our second time staying in room 315.) All three couples (including us) were extremely happy with the rooms, the staff, the building and tower overlooking the city, location and the breakfast. Rooms were clean and spacious and the breakfast room was very beautiful. Vivian, the helper in the breakfast area, was very helpful and courteous. (She's been there 22 years; we remembered her from our last visit.) All said, a very fine and lovely vacation in Florence!

Unfortunately it's very noisy in that neighbourhood and the windows don't have screens in them to keep out mosquitos. A welcoming front desk would have added a human element to our stay. We had very little contact with any staff other than at breakfast.

Such a charming hotel, would definitely stay again. Just to flag that if you're going for the room with the private terrace, note that there are narrow stairs inside the door leadjng up to the bedroom so you will need to get your luggage up stairs.
- Robsemon (4/5): Very outdated, noisy and not responsive to guests. - We thought the hotel would be charming so booked it for three nights. Really a bad experience. Our room shared a wall with the party room where there was very loud noise well past midnight. No soundproofing at all. So no sleep for 2 of 3 nights. The bathroom was tiny and had mold on the grout in the shower. It was expensive and not worth it. Could not recommend. The Tower had great views but you can see it without staying there.

I reached out to the hotel twice to try to address this with them before posting it publicly to no avail. Beware, especially if you are staying in family room 25!
- Rachel (6/5): Mixed feelings - To start , excellent position of hotel. Family run , good communication. I was recommended by a friend. I think they must have had a lovely room. We were in 102. On arrival the heater was on, it had been a hot day and I couldn’t breathe. Tried to open a window but they were sealed shut, you couldn’t see through them due to shutters which were also screwed down. At 11pm we had the bedroom door open for an hour to try to get some air through. Had good nights sleep. The hotel looks nothing like the photos. It’s tired. Breakfast was fine, be careful of the passive aggressive waitress. If she doesn’t think you need something, everyone knows about it. The hotel isn’t 4 star. 3 star at best. I wouldn’t stay again in case I was put into room 102! I would have loved one of the rooms advertised. I could have asked for a swap but my husband is very passive and hates any sort of complaint. Read the trip advisor reviews. Dig deep. If you don’t care about where you lay your head , this is a fantastic hotel for position.

I am sad to say that this was our least favorite hotel out of 5 hotels in Italy. I booked this hotel after reading for hours of reviews. We would not stay here again. The hotel is fascinating since it was a museum long ago, but there are too many other hotels in Florence that would most likely provide better service, cleanliness, and overall experience. The room was not very clean. The air quality of the AC in the room was disgusting. It was filled with mold. The bathroom door did not close. This bathroom was the remodeled recently, however the newly reconstructed space was extremely poorly constructed. My husband still laughs about the door being built to NOT close. The people at the front desk were rude and obnoxious. This hotel is rated as a four star and I can't imagine why. I would rate it as a 2 or maybe a 3 due to breakfast and location. We did eat breakfast daily which had excellent service, amazing food, and exceptional coffee. Other than that, I would stay away from this hotel. It did have hot water. The pictures will reveal a beautiful hotel. The bar at the top of the hotel has amazing views. However I caution you, my images can't capture the air qualitty, the mold or dust filled room. If air quality is important to you, stay else where. If pleasantry from hotel staff is important, stay far away from here. The bed linens and the quality of the matress makes me shiver to this day. Not sure what we slept on for 4 nights.

- M C E (10/5): Perfect Stay in Florence - We absolutely loved every moment of our stay at Hotel Torre Guelfa. We arrived after midnight and the night manager was welcoming and very helpful. Our room was perfect: we had booked via Hotels.com and picked 2 single beds and after a misunderstanding by Hotels.com the hotel made sure that this is what we had. The room was quirky but it had everything we needed and was very comfy and warm which was much appreciated as it is November and very cold outside. For all those expecting a hotel where every room is identical and modern please book somewhere else! This hotel has lots of history and is a perfect reflection of Florence. The views from the tower are outstanding, as good as the Duomo and completely free for guests. The breakfast was delicious and the staff are friendly and very attentive, especially Vivianne. I couldn't fault or suggest any improvements, our experience here was nothing short of heaven!

The concierge was 24/7 and professional. The bathroom is relatively modern compared to others that we’ve experienced in Italy. They had shampoo and lotion.
- Colin (8/5): Good hotel great location - Myself and my wife stayed 3 nights end of October. Hotel staff are really excellent. Room and general hotel area very clean. Our room was 1st floor overlooking the small cobble street. Clean but very dark and smell of damp in the room. The hotel is really old and natural....so if you want a bright modern hotel this is not for you. Roof tower is very nice....view is excelleenr. Location is amazing just 2 mins walk from Ponte Vechio bridge. I would stay again but would recomend a room higher up and brighter.

Leave your alarm clock at home as the nearly on time 5:30am daily noise of the street vendors pulling out their souvenir carts is like a freight train that loudly clicks and clacks on the cobble stone alleys for over an hour each morning.

Our flight into Florence was canceled and we missed the first night of our reservation. When I called the hotel to inform them, they were nice enough not to charge me for the room that night. What a pleasant surprise. The view from the top of their tower was splendid. I would stay here again, for sure!

- JerseyMomOttawa (10/5): Ideal! - Hotel Torre Guelfa is a great hotel. The location is central, on a quiet street away from the crowd, but just around the corner from most sites like the Ponte Vecchio and a five minute walk from the Uffizi. The hotel offers good value compared to other 4 stars I’ve tried on previous trips to Florence. We had room 21 which was located up the lift, and then down a set of stairs in the annex. Thankfully, we accepted the assistance of the bellhop who helped us with our bags and showed us the way. Our room was modern and surprisingly spacious, quiet at night, was equipped with two separate showers, and had a small seating area that had what I guess was a sleeper sofa that we didn’t use. The room also had two separate air con units that housekeeping thoughtfully left on so our room was cool after a day of touring in the summer heat. Housekeeping was also thorough and made sure we had a fresh supply of thick fluffy towels every day. The highlight of our stay was the buffet breakfast and the staff. Vivian and her team were welcoming and made sure we were spoilt for choice with fresh eggs, a variety of fruit, an amazing assortment of pastries, and delicious made to order cappuccinos. We recommend this hotel.
- F4553BNpauls (8/5): Great location, great views - Great location, near Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria but quiet. Approx 20 minute walk from the station. Room itself was compact and bathroom tight but functional, clean and had character. Breakfast was a good buffet in an impressive room. View from the tower was panoramic and spectacular at night although beware of the climb if not good at heights! Concierge and reception service was excellent.

- Curious03200297970 (8/5): Great location, great breakfast - Had a lovely stay here. The breakfast and view from the tower bar were both absolutely a highlight- breakfast had a wide range of food beautifully arranged, and the 360 degree of Florence took our breath away. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The age of the building meant Wifi, phone signal and the aircon (battling a heatwave) were spotty at times but overall still a comfortable stay in a great location.

Only issue was the aircon in our room wasn’t very powerful so in the 39 degree heat the room still felt rather warm. Also be prepared for slow internet and limit phone reception. Overall would still recommend this hotel for the view from the tower.

The refrigerator does not work at all and the receptionist wanted me to bring my self purchased food and beverages to a locked room with a small refrigerator on the main floor rather than switching the working one with the malfunctioning one in our room. The bathroom door is absolutely filthy with dirt all over it. The toilet doesn't flush until you've used all your strength on the third push of the flushing mechanism. The shower walls are covered in tiny hairs. The wifi barely works.
- Todd (10/5): - What a property, what a hotel. We fell in love, beautiful, historic castle, with a tower bar offering outstanding views of Florence and providing unforgettable sunsets. The breakfast was outstanding, excellent and helpful service. The best cappuccino. Comfortable room, canopy bed, huge windows, quiet and safe. We will return, we loved the hotel.
- Valerie (2/5): - We were in room 204. This is important because that room should not be rented to anyone until they fix the electrical system and air conditioner. The hotel needs MUCH better management. When we reported the day that we checked in that he outlets were not working( that means no ability to charge one’s phone or watch, no bedside table lights) and no air conditioning with the temperature in August in the mid 90 degree range, the staff was non responsive. We were stuck. The next morning we spoke to the front desk person who said someone would come to fix it. We were out for a full day sightseeing. Upon return, some outlets working but an A/C still not working. The man at the desk had no idea that there was a problem and did not care. I reported to expedia, and finally the man at the front desk took a break from the video game he was playing to read a message on the computer to give us another room. So, we changed our room at 10 pm after hours of arguing for our second and final night. That room was fine. The hotel is in a great location, has a lovely breakfast and would be good if properly managed. That the staff was so unresponsive and uncaring was shocking. And no, they did not credit us back any money for the awful first night. We also wasted many hours trying to remedy the awful situation- time lost on our vacation. So, bottom line, if you have a room in good condition, it would be great. Looking back at other reviews, others have had the same problem.

Firstly, the rooms were spacious, extremely clean and had a beautiful traditional vibe which is perfectly fitting for a city with rich history like Florence. The air conditioning was great along with the delicious breakfast (courtesy of Vivian!). A stones throw from every major attraction and literally 1 minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio. The front desk staff were amazing and helped us for stuff such as booking taxis, calling restaurants for reservations and recommendations for authentic places to eat! Cannot recommend this place enough (just wait till you see the view from the tower you will be speechless…)

Con: Our "Superior" room did not live up to it's name. Pealing Paint in the bathroom. Worn Linen, thread bare and even some holes. Weak Wi-fi - Yes I understand this is a stone building and signal can be spotty, strength was always strong but it went out at the same time each night we were there. Mattress was lumpy and the creaky, time to replace. So given the good and the bad this is a Solid 3 star hotel that wants to be a 4 and could with some effort. I wouldn't rule out a stay here again, given the pro list. However, the con list should be noted.

I don’t remember seeing that option when I made the reservations and even if it was, that’s too relevant to be but in (very) small letters. The streets nearby were too dirty with lots of garbage. Internet is awful, terrible. Simply a service that does not work. The apartment doesn’t have noise cancellation and you can hear everything on the streets (and believe me, there is noise to be heard) specially after 5AM - and you definitively does not want to wake up at 5AM on a vacation trip. Breakfest is very good as well as the service from the people that were serving both in the cafeteria and in the front desk. Putting all together - the experience didn’t worth the spent money. I would choose another hotel.
- marcellod432 (2/5): Avoid it. Bad experience. - Big room but without any services. You have to clean the apartment if you don’t want to find it dirty after a day of visits in Firenze. That is definitely not what I had in mind when I made the reservations and I don’t remember seeing any heads up back then. Internet service if improved by 1000% then would deserve the “horrible” rate. It just doesn’t work. It would be better if the hotel charged us and provided a decent service. Terrible experience.
