Guest Reviews
- Jet23054037865 (10/5): Roman Rapture - My wife and I sincerelyRoman Rapture enjoyed our stay at this centrally located and well-maintained hotel. Thouroughly modern in every way, this hotel personifies Roman hospitality and professional innkeeping. Notable among the well-trained and friendly staff was hostess Camilla in the restaurant. Her professional care and attention was out-shined by her friendliness and sincere care for the guests. Her advice on things to see and do were second to none. We look forward to staying here for another week next year.
- Baliobear (10/5): 50th celebrations - Fantastic hotel 5 mins from the coliseum
Lovey breakfast
Staff so helpful
Very clean
Beautiful restaurants nearby all nationalities catered for
Quaint little streets making experience more fantastic okay
Highly recommended
- Pacifica-CA (4/5): Bail and Switch - Booked this hotel specifically because its address is close to the train. But upon check-in, I was told to go to another unknown and unsigned building (named hotel de Monti) 5 minutes away. Ended up having to drag my luggage uphill 5 more minutes away from the train station, and then up 4 floors without elevators. My original booking had breakfast included. But the unknown building doesn't have breakfast and I have to walk 5 minutes one-way in the morning to the original booking address in order to get my breakfast. Worse, the unknown building was very poorly maintained. The first room had unbearable methane or ammonia smell. so I walked back to the original booking address to switch rooms, then they give me another room in the unknown building, but as soon as I sat on the bed, one of the legs gave away. I called maintainance, the owner of the building came but wasn't able to fix the bed then and there, he used a stack of books to pop up the bed.
- Byrnejo (10/5): Great location, fantastic staff. - We stayed here for 3 nights and had a really pleasant stay. Check-in is at Hotel Griffo and it's just a short walk to the De Monti. The receptionist was fantastic, really friendly and helpful. The hotel rooms are situated on the 3rd floor, which may be difficult for those with mobility issues as there is no lift. The room was basic, but very clean and comfortable. The rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels were also provided daily. Breakfast is taken at the Hotel Griffo, and is basic but adequate for what you pay for. However, the best thing about the hotel is the location. It's literally a 10 - 15 min walk to the coleseum. There's plenty of restaurants/cafes etc in the vicinity too. All in all a really lovely stay and highly recommended if you want to be close to the Coleseum.
- JoD1149 (8/5): Lovely hotel in a great location - Lovely budget hotel in a great location. (Coliseum is a 15 min walk). Check-in is at Hotel Griffo, which is a short walk to the hotel. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was spotless and was cleaned daily with fresh towels provided throughout our 3 night stay. The rooms are situated on the 3rd floor and the steps are rather steep - so perhaps not ideal if you have mobility issues. Unfortunately no tea/coffee facilities in the room, but a short morning stroll to the Hotel Griffo for breakfast was a lovely way to start the day. Breakfast is basic, but for a budget hotel, it was more than adequate. All in all, a really lovely, welcoming hotel in a fantastic location.
- Paulk1973 (8/5): Pleasent - The Hotel was nice and spacious it was clean and you could have it cleaned daily. Nice location close to Colosseum the only let down for me was no tea and coffee facilities in the room but if you want to stay in a nice quiet area of Rome but still has enough bars and restaurants in the area this is for you. Check in is at Hotel Griffo and the lady on reception was very helpful.
- joesLiverpool (8/5): Great location, friendly and helpful staff - I would like to divide this review into pro's and con's of our stay. First of all, we knew about the three flight of stairs to get to our rooms, which as one reviewer said 'its a workout', but no complaints. The pro's: The location is perfect to access the sights e.g. 10 minute walk to the Coliseum/Forum and a 15/20 minute walk to the Panthenon and Trevi Foutain. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and a special thanks to Eva for her tips and advice. The room itself was comfortable, clean and the area of Monti had lots of dining options to choose from and with exception of our last night, we dined within a brief walk of the hotel, such was the choice.
The con's: The water temperature for the shower was too cool for our taste and while at high summer this may be a blessing, in January it was a shock to the system. I felt that the room could have had tea/coffee facilities as this tends to be standard in most hotels and more storage space for clothing would have been welcome.
Overall, these con's did not spoil our stay and we would return for the right price, but perhaps we would choose the Hotel Griffo to avoid the stairs again (I'm approaching 62 years old, so I would go for the easy option of a lift). Our stay will leave us with very pleasant memories of Rome and as I threw a coin over my left shoulder with my right hand at the Trevi Fountain, I will get my wish to return.
- rosalyndej (8/5): Room with a workout! - Our room had windows, but no view we did have air conditioning. We knew beforehand that there was no lift and we would be on the third floor. The attraction of staying here was the 1500 year old building. Having walked several kilometres around Rome all day in 30 degrees and considerable humidity, at 60 plus years of age, the concept of climbing 58 steps to get to some comfort was a little daunting. Having said this the hotel is close to a lovely area with lots of interesting shops and eateries. The coliseum is a 15 minute walk away, if we return we would probably stay at the Hotel Grifo they have an elevator!
- stacys646 (10/5): Wonderful Location - helpful staff - My family of five stayed in two rooms. Both rooms had a king bed and a twin. Rooms were very comfortable, AC worked well and bathroom was equipped well. The breakfast was superb and included in the price of the room. There is a Metro stop across the street, but we walked to Colosseum (5 minutes), Trevi Fountain (15 minutes) and the Forum (20 minutes.) Lots of restaurants around that were excellent. Will stay again.
- 108silvers (10/5): Very nice hotel - Very nice hotel. Looks new. Breakfast included. There is a mini mart just across the street. Alot of eateries all over the area. Not just italian food. Colassium walking distance just down the street to ur right then left. The forum very close to the colissium. The hotel rooms have a safe. Currently the balcony view is not available cuz they seem to be upgrading it. Got a peek though and its a big balcony.
- charlie77hfall (10/5): Ideal - Fantastic little place right in the best part of Rome. Angelo was a great host and very helpful. The rooms are basic but were perfect for what we needed. Very clean room with a nice basic breakfast included. The location was perfect, really central to all the places we wanted to see. Will definitely stay here again when we are back in Rome!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent location & wonderful staff - Location is a few roads down from the Colosseum/Roman Forum. Staff are lovely, very friendly and accommodating- on our last day, we were allowed to leave our suitcase in the room/reception for as long as we needed to enjoy a few more hours of Rome before getting an evening flight.
The hotel is just around the corner from the road Via Urbana. Which has some cool places to eat, including Grezzo- a vegan raw chocolate/ice-cream parlour and a restaurant called Aromaticus which has a predominantly vegan menu/very healthy food options. There are supermarkets (Meta and Super Elite) a short walk away too.
In the other direction, there is the main train station/bus terminal (where you can get a bus- the 714 for most of the journey down to the Domatilla Catacombs (closest stop is Navigatori).
We walked everywhere this holiday, saw the majority of the attractions and only used the bus once.
The room was very clean. Access to the building is via a keycard, and breakfast is provided via a nearby hotel.
- StewartJ59 (8/5): De Monti - Spot on! - This is a fabulous hotel. We were undecided on our rating and ended up dropping it to 4.5 only because it is on the 3rd floor with no lift. But hey, you walk around & up and down stairs all day enjoying Rome, what’s a few more stairs. Of course, for those with a physical condition or disability it may be a problem.
Hotel De Monti has everything we want of accommodation: - perfect location; wonderful friendly staff; very good value for money (for central Rome); decent size & nicely renovated rooms (with very good beds & functional bathroom; spotlessly clean; and quiet (double glazed windows & not too noisy street). It has Wi-Fi and aircon but the windows can be opened. A decent breakfast is also included in the price. And there is a safe.
The hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from the Termini station, the hub for transport to/from the airport and for anywhere in Italy. The must see sites are easily walkable from the hotel. The Coliseum is just 8 minutes away and most of the others (except the Vatican) are less than 20 minutes walk. The Vatican is about 40 minutes but you can get a metro back to the hotel. The Metro station is5 minutes away. The walk back from the Vatican is beautiful particularly the bridges.
The hotel is just around the corner from a really nice cluster of streets with great restaurants and shops as well as a few tasteful bars. And it is a very safe after dark. Finding it: On first arrival, it was hard to find the door on the street and the small name plate for the hotel. Like most others in central Rome, the hotel doesn’t occupy the whole building. The address is 95 Via Panisperna. don’t be confused by the next door hotel window that says “95 rooms”. We knew we were close so we phoned reception and the lovely Dadda came down and met us at street level. She even helped with the bags. After 24 hrs flying from Oz we could have kissed her. The hotel is not very far, maybe 150 metres down Via Panisperna off the main drag from the Termini (via Cavour). It was very very easy to find each evening. We stayed a total of 5 nights on our way into and out of Italy and would definitely stay here again.

- MidgetGem24 (8/5): Great little 2 star B and B - My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in October. Spotlessly clean, basic accommodation, probably better described as a B and B than an hotel as no bar or sitting area. Comfortable beds, bathroom tiny but adequate. Great location for walking to many sites of interest and lots of lovely places to eat and drink nearby. Would recommend for a budget break.
- theswissmister (8/5): Pretty basic but does the job. It is what it is - 2 night stay for tourism. 2 gents in their 40s.
Had a friend come visit from the US and played tour guide for a few days in Rome. My wife was nice enough to let me get away and I was just looking for a basic place to stay that was decently located.
You can't really complain for what it is...They come right out and claim it's 2 star property. Rooms seemed a little smaller than what they appeared online, but really wasn't expecting anything large anyways.
The included breakfast is a nice touch but we were out too early and back too late to order and take advantage of it more than once.
Office hours are limited but once again the property lets you know this in advance.
The staff was nice enough to stay a bit longer with my luggage so my friend and I could finish a tour before heading to the airport.
Conclusion...
For what it is and what my needs were, I found the property perfectly acceptable and I have no hard complaints. Contrary to that, the breakfast is a plus for a 2 star. If your looking for something pretty well located, something you can use as a base for 18 hours a day tourism and then just come back and shower and sleep...if you're on a budget...if you're not in need of luxuries and space...this place does the job nicely...It's basic...but it's not a dump...it's clean...I don't know how often I'd find myself in the same situation, but I'd stay here again if I found myself in similar circumstances.
- philad1 (2/5): Nothing like the pictures - Just a disgusting place to stay where they got there photos of there rooms i am bewildered nasty dirty place to stay and breakfast well that was a complete JOKE. DON'T BOOK THIS PLACE.Even though its close to Spanish steps spend a little bit more money and Stay somewhere else.
- 758shyamu (8/5): Good hotel, tiny rooms! - This hotel is very modern and the quality of the room is great. The location was good (right next to the colosseum) and we enjoyed the nice walk to centre (around 25 minutes) which is where we mainly went for dinner.
There were two negatives for this hotel. The room was really really small. We got a standard room, but I didn't realise just how cramped it would be. Of course, you spend most of the time seeing the city, but the size of the room was still frustrating. The breakfast was pretty poor as well and you have to get the coffee yourself froma a poor quality machine.
Would probably recommend, but next time, would go without breakfast and upgrade to a larger room
- dew882mt (8/5): Close to Colosseum and Termini - We stayed here only one night to be close to the Colosseum, a must see, and walked from the train station, easily done. Very friendly, accommodating. Great breakfast for 5 euros. One drawback is the stairs to get up to it. But they help with bags, even though it said they do not! Great restaurant about two doors away.
- PratyushK137 (8/5): 4 star for location - This happens to be the most centrally located hotel/guest house with all the major Rome attractions like the Colosseum, Trevi fountain, etc. within walking distance. Also, the hotel has really nice restaurants and general stores around it which makes it easier for you to just hop across the street and fulfil all that you need. Even the Roma Termini (Central Station) is around 600 meters away.
Remember: The hotel is on the 3rd floor with really steep stairs and not elevators which makes it really difficult to climb with the luggage. Not recommended for travelers with infants (I got stuck as I had to climb up and down with the baby carrier along with my kid)
- Sarahmuffins (8/5): Good hotel, great location - My husband and I stayed here during a recent visit to Rome. The hotel is very central, 10 mins walk to the colosseum and 15 mins to the Trevi Fountain. We got to Rome by train and it took is less than 15 mins to walk to the hotel. As others have mentioned the hotel is on the third floor and there is no lift so it may not be suitable for everyone. The staff in the hotel are extremely helpful, polite and welcoming. You are served breakfast in bed each morning which I felt was a lovely touch. There are a number of bars and restaurants near by so it's convenient for food and drinks. The rooms themselves are quiet small and basic but they are very clean. I would recommend Hotel de Monti for a short stay in Rome due to its value for money, staff and location. It's not a typical hotel though. It's just one floor of a large building. If I was staying in Rome longer I think I'd look for something a little bigger or less basic but overall it's a nice place.
- Lisabeth407 (8/5): Central location, personal service - The hotel is the third floor of an old building on a quiet street. It's a 10 minute walk from Stazione Termini (trains from the airport come to this station) or from the Via Cavour metro stop, and close to many sites -- about a 20 minute walk to the Vittoriano, Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Biblioteca Angelica, Jewish ghetto, Michelangelo's Campidoglio, and all the churches we wanted to see that had a Caravaggio.
Giorgia is the hotel concierge, a warm and welcoming presence who can advise on neighborhood restaurants, metro routes, where to buy an extra outlet adaptor, and other necessities. Signora Sana brings your breakfast on a tray with a gentle knock on your door at the time you specify. (You fill out a breakfast request questionnaire each evening for the next morning.) She speaks French as well as Italian. We felt that both these ladies treated us like valued visitors.
Be aware that there is no elevator. We returned to our air-conditioned room during the heat of the day, but first had to climb all those stairs. Several times we bought freshly-made sandwiches and cold beer at a small "deli" (on Via Panisperna near Via del Boschetto. Don't know the name, but it's on the same side of the street as the hotel and you walk 3 steps up from the street) and brought them back to the room for lunch. There's a small greengrocer a half block from the hotel (Via Urbana?) if you want delicious peaches, apricots, etc.
We would absolutely visit again.
- Ivo (10/5): - The hotel was everything one comes to expect from a family owned business. Highly recommended!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Spotlessly clean, friendly hotel, perfect location - Don't be put off by the look of this hotel from the outside! It is staffed by wonderful people, is spotlessly clean (and we are really fussy!), breakfast is good and brought to your room, and there is a tv and shower etc. Perfect area for exploring Rome by foot. 3rd floor (4th if you're American) so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues - be warned!
- Kate (10/5): Great location, staff - I stayed at two hotels in Monti while I was in Rome, and I wish I'd stated at this one the whole time. Great location, staff was super friendly and helpful, room was comfortable and breakfast was really good. A major plus: it was extremely hot and the air conditioning worked really great. I've had many European hotels claim to have AC but have them barely work. This one worked great. It is on a fairly loud street, but the windows kept the noise out well.
Breakfast is 5€/person, delivered to your room. The food was great, and nice to start the day (mostly cold items, but good array).
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent choice - Great location and very nice and helpful staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very affordable, centrally located hotel in Florence; best shower; good, solid breakfast.
- Tamara (8/5): Great location right in the heart of Rome - We found Hotel di Monti to be in a perfect location to explore Rome.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Arrived late (10pm) after flight from Tokyo - so got key from another hotel as prearranged no problem. But plumbing in my room was very bad - the toilet has a pump that kept grinding very loudly for about 30 minutes. (Never struck anything like this before!!!) So tried to phone management - but incorrect contact information in room about how to phone them. So ended up Skyping them - they sent very kind lady 10 minutes later who basically told me to turn off the toilet power, and only turn it on briefly each time after toilet was used!!! They moved me next day without much apology. Overall very basic accomodation - but clean and wifi good. Fantastic area. Would stay again in Monti area, but not in this hotel.
- Alberto (10/5): Great value for your money - Great experience and great service and very clean.
- Lizzie (10/5): Amazing location, staff were extremely welcoming. - Had an incredible 4 night stay in Rome. The staff were helpful, knowledgable and welcoming. Breakfast brought to our room each morning was a lovely change/luxury. Myself and my husband are vegetarian/vegan and the hotel staff couldn't have been more friendly and understanding- even asking if we needed any specialise products as they would cater for us specially and specifically to our dietary requirements. Great vibe to the place and a delightful street, with markets, restaurants and a cool little bar we loved, just 2 doors down from the hotel.
- Fara (6/5):
Hotel De Monti - Pros:
The hotel location is a big plus, close to train station which we arrived. Hotel's employees were fantastic, very helpful and friendly, We didn't know there is no elevator in the hotel both my sister and I had knee issue so they helped us with carrying our bags both ways.
The room was very comfortable and big enough for me and my sister and clean. They served breakfast in our room which was nice and the price for the location in Rome was very reasonable.
I general I had a very good experience and loved the staff.
Cons:
not having elevator is a big minus. It seems the building is old and the city won't let them to install elevator but for guests should consider this.
There was an issue with the pipe so we always had noise if the water was running I mean very loud noise.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location...great people.. - Really nice hotel in a great location. Great checkin with restaurant recommendations which were both great. The rooms are very nice for the price. The breakfast was basic but the coffee was lovely. The only negative was 3 floors of stairs waiting after walking all day around Rome! If you can handle this it's a great choice
- jean (8/5): Bien placé - Visite à pied de Rome
- Hinti (10/5): - Be aware of the no lift in this hotel. If you are ok with the steeps it is a good place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hostel, in a good area. - Hotel de Monti was a good place to stay in Rome. It was close to Colosseum and train station. There were lots of great bars and restaurants in the surrounding area The road was little noisy outside and the stairs are quite steep! But apart from that we really enjoyed our stay.
- Sheri (10/5): wonderful - Wonderful stay. Close to everything. Very helpful staff. Excellent breakfast in bed.
- Paula (10/5): Convenient and helpful - We loved where this hotel was situated as we could walk to everywhere we wanted to visit. The breakfast in your room at the time you requested was a special touch.
- Konum olarak şahane hem terminiye yakın hemde nezih bir semt, gerek geliş gerekse gidişte olsun havaalanına rahat ulaşım,super market, restorant ve tüm gezi yerlerine yakın konumda tabiki fiyatına göre,günlük temizlik yapılıyor, kahvaltı için girişte seceneklerin sunulduğu bir çizelge veriliyor ve buradan içecek, peynir, recel, salam, tereyağ,nutella, yogurt, kuruvasan ve kızarmış ekmek seceneklerinden işaretlemeyapıp her gün bir tanesini posta kutusuna bırakıyorsunuz seçtiğiniz zaman diliminde odaya servis ediliyor.yatak rahat, banyo temiz herşey çok iyiydi işin özü.ayrıca youtube otelin adını yazdığınızda kısa bir ulaşım videosu çıkıyor.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the hotel staff, the breakfast in the room, etc. Couldn't ask for a better location.
- Cheryl (6/5): Good two star hotel, good location - The hotel is on the third floor of a very old building. There is no sign on the building for the hotel but it is not hard to find especially with a smartphone map ap. Hotel also sends you a link to a video on how to get there from the train station. Instructions from hotel are that you must arrive by 6 pm and we hurried to do so, but it turns out that staff is at desk until 8 pm so there might have been some leeway...not sure. Staff was helpful - continental breakfast served in your room exactly at the time you request. Room and bathroom are very small but fulfill needs and are very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location - basic but clean and comfortable room
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent location. - Clean, comfortable room. Excellent location in walking distance from all major sites. Very friendly and helpful staff. Price very reasonable for Rome. Free WiFi and a safe in the room. Loved it and Rome and hope to return again in the future!
- Amanda (8/5): Returned to de Monti - great location and staff - This was our second visit to De Monti - te first was 4 nights in 2014 and we were 4 nights this time. The location of this hotel is great - near termini and within walking distance of all major sites. Great restaurants, bars and shops nearby - which was great for evenings after longs days of walking. The staff was very helpful again with tips reservations and setting up taxi to airport. There is no elevator and several flights of stairs so you must be mobile to stay here. Rooms are smallish but clean and breakfast (good breakfast) is brought to your room on a tray.
- Jeff (10/5): Great stay near the centre of Rome - The hotel was a fifteen minute walk from the Roma Termini train station. There was actually a YouTube video to 'show' you the way to the hotel. Staff were super friendly and walked us through a map of the area including popular sights and restaurants. They also offered right away to help us with reservations. The room itself was one of the most spacious we stayed in while in Italy. One quirky thing we needed to get used to was the loud toilet. I believe it is called a 'macerator toilet.' The staff let us know it is a necessity in the old building. We didn't really notice the noise after a day. The room itself was very clean and was cleaned every day we stayed. There was also a provided breakfast where you could choose from a good list of items. You were also welcome to have them all if you wanted! This was a welcome detail because most places only provide a croissant and espresso as their breakfast. We particularly enjoyed the cookies! One of our best stays while on our trip!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Close to local attractions - Close to local attractions and a couple great restaurants further down the street: La Carbonara and the restaurant opposite (the steak is a must try!)
Carrying luggage up stairs isn't so bad, just take it slow.
Super friendly reception staff and great breakfast included
- Helen (10/5): Close to amazing restaurants and bars - Great hotel with brilliant staff, very helpful on where to eat and how to get around. Taverna di monti and La Carbornara are amazing and brilliant value for money
Great cocktail bar next door with live music some nights.
5 mins to the colleseum and 30 mins to St Peters. Able to walk to all the sights.
Breakfast was lovely, great coffee!
Supermarket 2 mins away.
Room very clean and everything you need.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Very central for exploring Rome by foot. Rooms were on the small side in that we could not lay a suitcase down and keep it open as we would trip over it. Helpful reception lady who gave us some handy tips. Good value for money in a central location.
- sarah (10/5): Great hotel and service! - We really enjoyed staying at this hotel in the Monti neighborhood. Central to attractions but quiet at night and good local restaurants. Would recommend to anyone looking for a small, quiet hotel with a good location. The front desk woman was very helpful in recommending places to eat. Free breakfast delivered to the room every morning was a great way to start the day.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location and price! - Great location for what we wanted to be near...train station, pantheon, and many other sites.
Room was clean, breakfast was prompt with choices of ham, cheese, hand squeezed orange juice, croissants and good coffee.
Next time in Rome will stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Disappointing Room/Hotel Accomodations... - EXTREMELY loud with paper thin walls; heard every time someone opened/unlocked the hall door and their room door. In addition; the toilet made a growling sound! Sounds as though there is a subway that runs under the building. NO extra pillows or a blanket; stuck with the two pillows on the bed. Know that there is no elevator and you will have to climb 4 flights of stairs with luggage to get to your room AND limiting check in time!! MUST check in between 1-6PM...did not know this when I made the reservation. If you don't make it by 6PM; you are without a room! Small closet size check in room with one employee checking you in; no hotel lobby. On a positive note; continental breakfast delivered to your room!
- Jennifer (8/5): Central & convenient - Excellent location for sights & well priced restaurants, as well as Termini station! No signage for hotel though, so not easy to find.
- Anne (8/5): Good room, fairly central. - Room clean, warm friendly welcome and help up steps with luggage.
- David (10/5): great little hotel! - good location close to collusseum and termini station, good restaurants nearby
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place! - This is a very nice hotel however follow the directions carefully before you arrive. The streets in Rome are not conveniently marked so it is not easy to find. The hotel will send you a YouTube video that will get you directly to their hotel, however; you must have Wi-Fi to use it and it is very sketchy after you leave the train station. So make sure you have the directions written down before you try and find this place. Staff is very helpful and friendly and the room was very quaint and quiet!
- Lesley (10/5): Quaint stay in Rome...... - Excellent location, very easy to find from Termini (view the video link they send you), breakfast was quaint being served on a tray to your room at the time you have specified, room was tidy and kept clean. The people manning the reception were full of info about where to eat and buy gorgeous desserts and gelato. A definite stay for anyone, and Rome is very walkable but beware very hilly!!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charming Hotel, fantastic location - Hotel was charming in probably the best location in Rome. Less than 10 minutes walk from the Colessum. Some of the best restaurants and bars in Rome within walking distance and frequented by both tourists and locals. The staff at the hotel were helpful advising on places to visit and eat. The room was small but big enough for me and my husband. Breakfast was served each morning in our room and everything was fresh and plentiful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome wanting to stay at a lovely hotel in a safe and charming part of Rome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice clean small place for a short stay - If you are in Rome for a short amount of time E.g. 1-3 days and are looking for a nice place for a reasonable price, this is the place for you. Hotel staff are very friendly and the room has everything you need. Room was in great condition upon arrival.
- Jonathan (10/5): So friendly, nice simple breakfast in bed :) - The location was a bit hard to find (no outside signage), but the room was clean and quiet, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and there was a nice simple breakfast (croissants, toast, prosciutto, cheese, juice, tea, cappuccino, etc) delivered to our door each morning :)
- Verified traveler (6/5): Room quality vs rate - The room was adequate but value vs room I would have expected better. Bathroom to tolit leaked yucky water, bathroom smelled, our room at the kitchen beside it.. which meant a 7am wake up call from the noise. Not all bad though, the staff at the hotel were amazing.
- Easy Traveller (10/5): Location and Loved Friendly Staffs. - We stayed 2 nights at Hotel de Monti. Actually it was not a hotel but kind of apartment style accommodation. From the outside, building itself definitely needs major repair and/or face-lift but inside it was surprisingly modernized room and clean. If you didn't know there was no hotel sign at all, it was very difficult to find an entrance door.
Walking distance to Termini train station, Colosseum and Trevi Fountain. Good restaurants are nearby, and even grocery store is conveniently locating 5 minutes from the hotel.
This hotel’s the best asset is Friendly Staffs without doubt, every one of them are extremely helpful.
Including a good breakfast delivered to our room everyday was a bonus.
- Mike (6/5): Nice economical hotel - Good room but a little small. The staff is helpful.
- Dafna (10/5): Great value for money!! - The stuff were kind and nice. Great neighborhood.
- Becca (10/5): I wish a ranking higher than excellent existed! - Nothing was too much to ask for - the staff gave us such amazing advice of how to tackle Rome in a short amount of time. We only had 2.5 days and saw everything we wanted to see and more thanks to the amazing tips and tricks given to us.
Could not be more satisfied, and would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to visit Rome - you are literally minutes from the Colosseum and other sights.
If I could give this hotel 8 stars out of 5, I would.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great for what you pay for - The staff was wonderful! The rooms were nice and it was great to have an ensuite bathroom. The location was fantastic and in walking distance to all the major attractions. And I really enjoyed the breakfast.
The one thing that was very frustrating was the wifi. It was very weak and there were times where there was no wifi at all.
- Simon (10/5): Roman holiday - An excellent break with lots to see and easy access to all the sights. Hotel staff excellent and extremely helpful.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I must admit I was expecting more from the hotel due to all of the glowing reviews. Hotel De Monti is in a good location and the staff are pleasant but it is very much a budget hotel. The walls are thin enough that you can easily hear conversations from other rooms and people coming and going at all hours. On one night we were kept awake by the sound of a water pump when other guests were showering at 4am before their early departure. The rooms are basic and the beds were not particularly comfortable. Having breakfast delivered to the room is very nice but could be improved on by offering some cereal and a fresh fruit option. You can find some great places to eat just around the corner in Via Urbana which offer options for those looking for something beyond pizza and pasta.
- Lorri (10/5): Small hotel offering warm hospitality. - We stayed at Hotel de Monti for 6 nights during our first visit to Rome. It felt like we were staying in an apartment (hotel occupies the 3rd floor of a building in the Monti neighbourhood, no elevator) but we had a lovely breakfast served each morning (menu choices are typical local fare which you select the day before) and had our room tidied up and fresh towels provided daily. Mauro, our wonderful host, was very helpful to provide sightseeing tips which helped us to plan our itinerary, miss crowds and take shortcuts. He was also very helpful in accommodating our special requests!
- Rebecca (10/5): Can't say a bad thing about it - As long as you are aware of the check in times (between 1pm and 6pm) and can arrive during them, this hotel is perfect for a few days of exploring Rome.
The location is excellent, the area is called Monti and is full of authentic little Italian bars and restaurants, far from the overpriced tourist traps you find in the major piazzas.
You are walking distance from all major attractions (the Vatican is the furthest by far, but still a pleasent 30 min walk is all it takes). The colosseum is just down the road and the pantheon, trevi fountain and piazza Navona are easily accessible by foot too. We travelled around Rome exclusively by foot and even when walking around at night, we felt 100% safe wherever we were.
We were very pleasantly surprised to discover that not only was breakfast included in the price of your stay, but it is also brought to your room at whatever time you request.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to friends and family staying in Rome. It's simple, cheap, clean, comfortable and fantastically located. As long as you're fine with walking up three flights of stairs to get to your room (it's an old building with no elevator) it's a great little hotel.
- Janet (8/5): Small rooms and beds but great staff - The hotel concierge Mauro was excellent and he is the one we will remember when we think of Hotel De Monti. He gave us great advice before we arrived and during our stay and was always friendly and helpful. Other pluses include the delicious breakfast, which was served on time in our room, and the location. It is within walking distance of most of the prominent sights. The negatives would be the size of the room and the size of the beds (tiny), but perhaps that is standard for a low-cost hotel in Rome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel, brilliant location - Fab location, friendly, helpful reception staff. Comfy bed, good shower.
- Rachel (8/5): Great location! - This hotel is in a great spot for sight-seeing and it is a 10 minute walk to the Termini station. The hotel manager was extremely nice and spoke very good English. The hotel may be hard to find at first because there is no sign, but we had the manager arrange for a driver to pick us I up at the airport and we made it there without any problems. Would definitely recommend.
- Julie (10/5): Great hotel, wonderful staff, and good location - We had a wonderful stay at Hotel de Monti and I would definitely stay there during future visits in Rome. The location is very central, close to Termini station and all of the major sites in Rome, making it easy to walk everywhere. Staff were very helpful and friendly, bringing us a nice breakfast in our room each morning and giving us good tips for what to do, where to eat and how to make the most of our time in Rome!
- c (8/5): Nice hotel in good location - The room was very nice but the hotel was a little hard to find. It was located in a good area of town within walking distance to the coliseum and some good shopping areas. It's located on the 3rd floor of the building with no lift. The continental breakfast was adequate and served to you in your room. The hotel staff was very helpful but only available from 1 to 8 pm. We arrived early but were able to store our luggage until reservation staff arrived. Overall very pleased but didn't like the stairs.
- Lovell (8/5): A good little hotel. - We enjoyed our stay, although only being able to book in between 1 and 6pm was inconvenient. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating in all other respects. The room and bathroom were very clean and tidy, but a little small. There was a lot of street noise at night. It was great having an air conditioner, so we could close the window which helped.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location with excellent staff providing invaluable local knowledge. Would happily stay there again.
- jay (8/5): Lovely comfortable room. Close to all the sights i - We stayed in the above hotel as we could climb the 3 storeys. No lifts. Also all the reviews said the staff were very helpful in organising your stay in Rome & also how to beat the queues. That's how we exactly found it. I would go back. Also some lovely restaurants nearby.
- Lisa (10/5): Quaint hotel in the heart of the Monti area - A lovely hotel situated close walk from Roma Termini but in the middle of more quiet, ie, non touristy, area. Very close & central to all the major sites however - we walked everywhere! Very much an area of Roman locals. Very much enjoyed eating at the restaurants with the locals, kindly recommended by hotel staff along with their advice at avoiding tourist traps which was much appreciated. I found Rome very hectic & crowded with tourists so after a day of sightseeing it was wonderful to come "home" to Hotel de Monti.
- David (8/5): An authentic Roman experience. - Great part of Rome, with authentic Roman atmosphere. Once you've climbed the steps, staff very helpful, with local knowledge of restaurants, taxis. Breakfast in room just right. Liked it very much.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Could be great if some basics are addressed - PROS: Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Incredible neighbourhood. Simple and comfortable accommodation.
CONS: when you stay in a 2 star hotel, you admittedly are not looking for luxury. What you are looking for, however, is for the basics to be done well. On that front, I feel Hotel De Monti let themselves down a bit. In particular, there was a smell (sometimes strong, sometimes faint) of sewage coming from the bathroom plumbing which it appeared the hotel had tried to disguise (alas, unsuccessfully) with wall-socketed air-fresheners. Additionally, I would say that the cleanliness of the room (and in particular the bathroom) was not great, and could be improved on.
- olive (10/5): Very Convenient, clean hotel. - was not disappointed with hotel all the reviews I read were spot on. I had a good experience staying in hotel monti
and mario at the desk was welcoming and very informative about where to visit and what to avoid.
- Debi (8/5): Great location. - Older "boutique" hotel across from the train station & close to the Eiffel tower. Small room with double bed so not much space for 2 people's suitcases but we made do. The bathroom was half the size of the room & it was comfy & had a decent size shower. Elevator was small - could only fit 2 people & luggage in it. Surrounded by many restaurants & smaller shops. Within walking distance to the Commerce area with the nicer stores/shops & fancier restaurants.
- denis (10/5): Obliging staff, Baroque Porch - Good place to stay, short walk from Termini Rail Station. Pity about the lack of external signing but you will find entrance with perseverance. Up on the third floor airier rooms than down at traffic level, much to commend in the rooms, comfortable in their first newness.
- dale p (8/5): Right place, right price - We had a little trouble locating the entry but once inside we were assisted with our luggage and shown to our room. The staff were extremely helpful with their inside knowledge of the city from how to play the museums to best areas to eat. This hotel is very we'll cares for getting to all of the desirable places. For the price it is hard to beat.
- Charlie (10/5): Lovely small hotel ideal location - This hotel is a hidden gem, it's ideally located within walking distance of all the attractions whilst remaining off the beaten track enough to be away from the crowds. Yes the stairs access is quite heavy going, but for a simple clean comfy bed and gorgeous breakfast you can't go wrong!
- Ray (8/5): Great location and great staff - This hotel is in a good location as everything is within walking distance. There are some good restaurants within a few blocks and the double decker tour buses have a stop within 4 blocks. The caveat is the stairs. If you cannot climb stairs this place is not for you. Our room was 55 steps from the street which did not bother us but it is a workout. The staff is great. Mauro was most helpful and has great advice and suggestions for those new to Rome. The maids bring breakfast to your room each morning and the room was cleaned and looked spotless each day we returned from our sightseeing. It is not fancy or luxurious but the location and staff made up for that.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean room and helpful staff. - We stayed 3 nights and the room was very clean. The hotel staff was very helpful with giving us tourism tips on when to visit sites and how to avoid long lines. They also provided restaurant recommendations which proved to be excellent. You order your breakfast the evening before and it gets delivered to you at your chosen time in the morning. Room service without the extra charge! The location is convenient if you are coming in by train. I wouldn't say the hotel is in the middle of things but all attractions are within walking distance....some farther than others. Very few restaurants/shops steps away from the hotel. You need to walk at least a couple blocks before you hit that stuff but that also makes for a quieter street. Overall great experience.
