Guest Reviews
- 853corinneo (6/5): Good location but rooms could have been better. - Location wise, this hotel is great. A short walk to Nanjing Road and nice river view just across the hotel. The only set back was that the hotel room we had looked old. The amenities were basic i.e no safe deposit box in the room, the rain shower was not usable. The ceiling had holes around the sprinklers and the air vent looked dirty. Breakfast was not bad.
- lesanjo (6/5): Good location - Being only 10 mins to Nanjing road, and the same to Peoples park and square, and another 15 mins down to the Bund, location is very good. Dont be put off by the back street that the entrance is on. Across the road is the very good Swatow Sisters restaurant and round the corner are a couple of convenience stores.
Our room was perfectly fine, although the view was only into the houses across the alley. The bar/cafe in reception was very hit and miss, and inconsistent. Reception staff are very helpful even though they have little English. Breakfasts are vey good with lots of choice. Can be busy around 8 until 9 or so in the mornings, with lots of people staying for business
We wouldnt hesitate to stay here again if we were to return, and although there are many better hotels around, it is ideal for what we paid.
- Clubess1 (6/5): Disappointing - This was our last stop in a 6-city, 13 day trip through China and, compared to all the other similarly-starred hotels we stayed in, this was a big disappointment in many, but not all, ways. Parts of the exterior are extremely dirty, our room (320, on the back side of the building) was tight but adequate with cool bump-out floor to ceiling windows that were situated directly across (maybe 30 feet away) from neighborhood apartments (I felt like a voyeur and intruder while looking out these windows as the residents across the way could see me as well!) and a great city view. The bed, as with all of our other hotels, was very comfortable and there was a pull-out drawer with tea cups and bags of tea lying inside, as well as a mini-fridge and cotton slippers and 2 water bottles. There was a brown water leak stain on the ceiling, wood on some of the furniture was peeling and the soaking tub, which was all scratched up, and sink are wide open to the room. There is a sliding door that allows you to close off either the toilet or shower area, but this did not stop the flood that spilled over into the room when we showered as the shower drain did not work properly. The sink drain did not work either. Unlike other hotels, there are no bathroom amenities offered here but you can get a toothbrush and paste at the front desk, where little, or no English is spoken (so we did not ask for our TV, which did not work, to be fixed) We "asked Siri" on our iphones to translate for us, which definitely helped. Wifi was VERY spotty until we figured out the best link, and then it was perfect. As charming as the neighborhood is with its alleyways and apartments to practically shake hands with (check out my photos), we found this hotel to be a in poor location for anything other than the 15 minute walk to crazy lit-up but fun Nanjing Road pedestrian street and the one minute walk to Suzhou/Wusong River, from which this hotel gets its name. Breakfast is quite good with friendly chefs preparing cold seaweed salad, tofu with toppings (eg, dried tiny shrimp), roast chicken, steamed buns, frogs' legs with the skin/nails still attached, green tea cake, natural and flavored yogurt, sauteed veggies, plus the requisite fruits, juices, soy milk and yummy, sweet rolls. Lobby is airy and large, has an "old Shanghai" feel to it with its red tufted sofas and old time paintings, and, quirkiest of all, an indoor "landscape area" on each floor so that inside rooms have a view out their "windows". Be prepared to take the good with the not-so good if you stay here.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I like the location
- J4779KUcathyc (2/5): Terrible.... - This hotel was well placed but that was all. Our room was dirty and there was a hole in our bathroom roof! Reception staff were rude. Breakfast food was limited and some foods stale. Would not recommend staying here.
- abelci77 (6/5): Hotel okay - The hotel is clean enough and in a great location. Unfortunately the staff do not speak any english at all, which makes it a touch difficult. Breakfast is okay and caters for many nationalities. The staff do try hard to accomodate.
- optisailor2002 (6/5): Decent hotel for the price in Shanghai - Stayed at the hotel for 5 days on a business trip.
Location: rather centrally located with easy access to malls and drinking spots within 10 minute radius. However, the entrance of the hotel at night is not obvious and it's easy to miss it due to it's location in a small, dimly-lit alley.
Room: extremely spacious room even for a couple. However, the furniture looks slightly dated, and the arrangement of the furniture is a little bit weird (e.g. study table next to the bathtub and the opposite end of the living area). The floors and walls are a little bit dirty with stains so it's better to not walk around the room barefeet. The water heating is an issue as there is only very hot water available for both the shower and the bathtub. Air-conditioning is decent, if a little bit noisy.
Facilities: only facility available was the cafe on the first floor, but the experience there was not ideal. Coffee was bad as the person did not know how to use the machine, and payment was an issue as they lacked small change.
Food: the food for all days were pretty much the same. Could have a smaller variety with higher quality. Spring rolls were soggy, and other pastries were soaked in butter (fine for me, but may not be suitable for others). Only the coffee was decent.
Overall a decent budget hotel for the price paid in Shanghai.
- analuisapr (6/5): Reasonable location, but very poor at english communication. - The location is reasonable, walking you´ll get to People´s Square in 10/12 min and on Nanjing Road in 15/17 min., and even though Sanghai is a very safe city, the hotel stays on an alley and the area is a little "dark" at night , so can be a little weird to walk after 7 p.m.
The first room I was smells smoke, so I had to move to another floor, but after 2 hours I was installed another guest was smoking on the hall. This was something that really bothers, but I think it´s normal to smoke in close spaces in China, I don´t know for sure.
The room is ok, looks like the photo, and the shower is very good. But the installations are a little old, so you´ll find the same room, but they need to be refurbished.
The communication is a little of a problem. Only one person at the front desk could understand english, and yet very poorly. As an example it took around 30 minutes to book a shuttle from the hotel to the airport. But the staff have a goodwill on help.
The hotel is not bad, but it isn´t the best place for a person that don´t speak chinese to stay. I would probably looks for a place more close to The Bund or Nanjing Rd.
- tanujroy2018 (4/5): Kingtown , Shanghai - The Kingstown hotel in Shanghai is quite near to the city centre in terms of distance but is quite low in terms of location as you navigate through narrow lanes & bylanes to reach this old , not so clean Chinese hotel located far too inside .
Weird room with Buth tub inside the room with no privacy or curtains or doors for the toilet area ( my room was 603 ) . Very long time taken to check in & English speaking front office personnel are very few.
The breakfast is limited & nothing worth mentioning. If you are booking through travel agents, suggest to avoid this hotel as I failed to do so seeing the proximity to the down town however I was wrong & that was misleading.
The wifi is erratic & overall the hotel can be much cleaner . To communicate with the staff is a challenge, It could be value for money for solo traveller but family stay is not recommended, a definite no .
- Johnny-Khuoch (6/5): A bit old hotel and need maintenance service - The hotel has broken bathroom door and floor looking dirty room#425, bad smell from the bath room, overall is good and welcoming staff but unfortunately I met only one staff could understand English at my entire stay, I called hotel staff to get engineer to fix but not their mistake as poor services because of lack of staff who can understand English.
- kzogger (4/5): 2 1/2 Rating - Needs to be Renovated - We stayed on the 11th floor. The noise level was very high, both from outside and from the room next door, where they were singing well past midnight, and you can hear everything (hard to sleep). The ceiling had what looked like water damage and the paint was peeling in one area. The light switches were not labelled correctly, so we had to flip about 8 switches to get the right lights to turn on/off. The door to the bathroom made so much noise that we had to just leave it open for the whole stay (sliding door that was hard to pull, too). The knob in the shower fell off the second day, so we couldn't use the overhead shower, just the hand held piece. The breakfast buffet was fine, but each morning a sign announced "All kinds of bread," but there was no bread one day, and only one kind of bread the next day, which was funny. Location was fine - close to the river and to the shopping area.
- 78andrewg (8/5): Kingtown Riverside Hotel, Shanghai, China....You'll be welcome here! - This was the first place we stayed when visiting China, and it wasn't a bad choice either. This isn't a big hotel (by international standards), there's several floors of it all accessed by efficient lifts.....but it has pretty much all the features that western style hotels do....and staff who help in any way they can. Though few actually spoke English (you'd better get used to that if touring their country) the usual gesturing and pointing will get you most things. Rooms are good, TV, fridge, safe, clean towels, toiletries, hairdryer, hot showers, powerpoints, comfortable modern furniture, regular housekeeping and its all well maintained. They provide bottled water (don't drink the tap water anywhere unless it specifically displays drinking water logo) and coffee/tea making facilities in the rooms.....but take English type tea bags with you if you want a proper cuppa as its kind of unheard of here. It doesn't have a restaurant (try the small Swatow Sisters family run establishment directly opposite the hotel entrance - it was a nice experience and the food was very good) but does serve breakfast (buffet style) and there is a coffee/snack/cake cafe in house (which seems to open on a whenever? basis) and it is in a good location for initial exploring. Reception can organise taxis, and there are subway stations within a short walking distance. Just around the corner you can find little 7/11 convenience stores selling snacks, sweets, milk...and cold beer! Your guide will help identify some items as packaging is often entirely in Chinese Characters. The busy shopping area is close by and beyond it, the Bund,.. which is about 25 mins walk...be careful though, crowds and traffic (silent electric scooters in particular) are heavy. Visit both these places by day...and then again at night....for the lights! Expect to have people take your photo....you look weird to them....but they are very friendly and curious. Smile and say Hi!
- wijram (6/5): FOOLISH! - The Kingtown Riverside Hotel Plaza Shanghai is perhaps best described as an unremarkable establishment. It is also not a hotel run in a manner consistent with the expectations of western tourists or business people.
It is located near highly desirable areas, but several other hotels are as well. The price appears to be reasonable, but the appearance is deceptive.
The front desk staff is friendly and tries hard, but management seems to have real problems. They do not seem to care for customers. As an example, the manager of the front desk, in the early evening of Friday, 19 Oct, was seen to tell several customers with simple separate questions that they had to wait in the long line to ask his desk staff, rather than ask him. After each such incident, he remained in place doing nothing observable.
Another such incident, we were issued only one door card. Upon reaching our room, we realized we would be leaving and returning to our room separately. We needed a second key. My wife went to the front desk with the request, which was rejected, since, as they put it, “We have no more keys. We have a full house tonight.”
She returned to our room. After a brief discussion, she returned to the front desk. Within five minutes she was back with the second card!
The room was reasonably clean – towels and sheets definitely so. Furnishings and fixtures aged.
Room itself was probably the smallest I have ever occupied.
Not the easiest location to find, but not a place to drive to anyway. NO parking available.
I can see being adventurous. Staying at the Kingtown Riverside Hotel Plaza Shanghai is not adventurous. It is, in our opinion, foolish.
- VXXG (6/5): Old Hotel - Centrally located - Average hotel, located close to People's Square Metro station and East Nanjing Road Shopping Street. Breakfast was average. Staff were friendly. Its a 20 minute walk from the hotel to the Bund and 40 min drive to the Pudong Airport.
- XavierSimTzeKeng (6/5): Kingtown Riverside Hotel - Room was spacious, clean generally. Even we have some hike up with the air conditioning which not bring cool air all the times in summer time.
Location great in central of Huangpu district which bring you ease in all foods nearby such as Jia Jia Tang Bao in walking distance.
Price were in reasonable range for the very big room, affordable to families.
Staffs were friendly and helpful.
- AndrewTowers1957 (2/5): Andrew T from Australia - Terrible stay, first of there was mix up with room, so they hit me up for extra cost.Must say staff on reception were good. The room was dirty, floor was lucky to be cleaned from the last 5 customers. It was so bad when I got out of bed the sheets had crusty bits from the floor. I complained and asked them to change the sheets which they did but did not touch the rest of the room. I am not one for wearing my shoes in a hotel room but this one I did. I put a towel by the bed to wipe my feet on. AC grill looked like it was going to fall, not all lights worked!! I don’t recommend and won’t go back. Lobby is tired!
- 864eminh (6/5): Good Location but not enough for 4 star quality - Location is good. Breakfast is poor only 1 type of cheese and Jam and butter. Sorry i forgot egg. I believe Chinese are the main visitors. Because also its really difficult to communicate. Hotel staff must learn English better for Foreign visitors. You can go to People's square or other nice places by walk. Metro line1 is just at the back of the hotel we can say. Bed and pillows are really hard. But clean and New. Affordable price.
- May Ling (6/5): -
- martyns340 (6/5): not as good as it looks on the pictures - Riverside views are only available on one side of the hotel it is very dated and although the breakfast is adequate it was normally cold even for hot dishes apart from the eggs fried to order .Rooms are better the further up you go position in shanghai is okay and fairly near to metro 5mins walk max and can walk to a number of large shopping malls
- KimZen (10/5): Beautiful New Hotel - Beautiful and new hotel. Rooms were nicely decorated with high end finishes. Reasonably close for visiting the Grand Buddha. Breakfast buffet had many options including western and Chinese. There is a shopping center close by for a variety of dinner options.
- 261samanthan (4/5): Poor housekeeping/cleanliness - We stayed here for 3 nights during our stay in Shanghai and overall it was average... the staff were friendly but limited English, no information is provided in the room regarding wifi or mini bar fees etc. The room hadn’t been cleaned well, or at all. With thick (and I mean thick!) dust and rubbish from previous guests under the bed. There were hairs in the bathroom and shower, and dirty marks on the walls and floor. It was a bit gross... the bed was fairly comfortable and tv worked well with a few English channels, but again there were a few long black hairs on the white bed spread.. and dust all over the floor and very dirty in the corners. The wifi didn’t work in the room either, only 1-2 bars sporadically if you stood in a certain spot at the door... wouldn’t really recommend this place. Maybe it was just our room, but it was not very nice to stay in such a dirty place.
- Verified traveler (2/5):
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- R (2/5): Vacuum hose used to connect sink to sewage pipe - The title says it all. Front desk staff can’t speak English. I don’t mind that. However, their attitude is I don’t give a f*#k approach. Cleaning staff is also bad. Forget to leave toilet paper and tea bags. Location is ok, but it’s in an alleyway which gets really dark at night. So women beware. First and last time for me staying in the lipstick on a pig junk hotel
- suet yee (10/5): Nice location, room clean & comfort - Nearby metro station- xinzha station(line 1-exit 6), just 200m from hotel. A lot of restaurants at exit 1. Hotel easy to find, staff friendly, room clean & comfort, I’ll give another stay if I back to shanghai again.
- Hans (8/5): Prima hotel. Prima ligging. - Prima verzorgd hotel.
Schone en nette kamers.
Vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel.
Ligging dichtbij (loopafstand) centrum.
Afstand tot metro (Xinzha road) is 300 m.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (2/5): Never Again - 1. Room stank of cigarettes
2. Hole in my curtain
3. Broken window
4. Backed up sink
5. Charged extra because I made my towels "too dirty" - their words
6. Smelly hallway
7. No one spoke basic English
8. Half roll of toilet paper replaced with another half roll of toilet paper daily.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5): reasonable price and quiet environment - This hotel is located near to metro station and easy to communicate within Shanghai. The room charge is reasonable and their facility is upto standard for the price paid. This hotel is also situated in quiet environment and good for traveller who like quiet in the night. Overall the room is comfortable and worth to stay with this price
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Arthur (8/5): Nice location near subway - Nice location near Nice location near subway and shopping areasubway and shopping areaNice location near subway and shopping areaNice location near subway and shopping areaNice location near subway and shopping area
- Tony (8/5): Convenience location, walkable distance city cente - Great location while a bit hard to find the entrance of the hotel. The building looks old while it is good condition inside. Walkable distance to city center, you could rent a mobike (bike) to travel around.
- Peter (8/5): - It was a good hotel, but there was not much in the area
- NEIL (6/5): Maintenance required - Tried to get the dripping aircon fixed. No one arrived to do it. Tried to get the non-working fridge fixed. No one arrived to do it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good hotel walkable to Nanjing Road - Hotel was good, bathroom was relatively clean. However, rooms need to be maintained better as we saw some mould building on the ceiling from airconditioner and we had issues with the toilet not flushing at times.
Overall, probably the cleaner one out of most average priced hotels.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Didn't really like it - In general the hotel is ok, but there were so many details that make your stay not as good as it could be:
- At the front desk people dont speak English
- The toilet was not that clean
- There were two elevators, but one of them did not work during the 5 days I was there, so it was very slow to go up and down
- During the 5 days, there wasnt hot water during the afternoon because they were fizing something
And some other things. Nothing terrible, but they have room for improvement.
- E (8/5): Good location, clean safe and very comfortable. - Some staff could be friendlier but they all get the job done and some of them are lovely. The rooms are nicely decorated and very comfortable. Mostly clean, nothing to worry about just the odd small thing, but that might be to do with standards in China. Perfectly acceptable though. Bathroom very nice including shower and free mineral water every day. Bed on the hard side. Great location, 10 minutes walk from peoples square and 2 mins from nearest tube station. Room key worked fine, so did TV and aircon. Would recommend. Good option in shanghai. Around 50 mins from Pudong airport by taxi, approx. 160 Yuan. They want 400 Yuan deposit on arrival. Breakfast is 50 Yuan per day, did not go though.
- Niels Peter Bielefeldt (10/5): Fantastisk! - Fantastisk spændende område og by.
- Jiovani (6/5): Eh... - My arrival took almost 45 minutes to check in as there was only one person working the front desk and the person running the front desk must have been the slowest typer in the world. I don't mean this in a rude way, but if people are walking in and there are more people there to assist for check in, that might be useful.
The room itself was okay. VERY open. A bathtub with no shades, same with the shower. The bed was comfortable, but the linens were torn. Also the ceiling in the hallway was peeling down, and there was decision to fix it at 6 in the morning with intense power tools. Like...why?
The location is very near a the Xinzha train station, which is super helpful and easy to get around. So a decent location if you care to get out and party.
- Yu-Ching (6/5): -
- Jin Ho (6/5): different Hotel location from MAP - It was OK, but I had spent much time to find hotel due to location of hotel description is different as actual location.
The location is very good. Just three minutes walk to both bus station and metro. There are many convenience stores around but not many restaurants. The room is clean and the staffs are polite and helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect location average hotel - Everything was fine except for the cleanliness, our bed sheets where perfect,it was everything else.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid it if you can. - Service people were always willing to help but rectifying plumbing problems and other hotel conditions were beyond their control.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good but internet very weak - The location is good, handy to subway stations and restaurants. The main issue was that the internet was very often too weak to be usable. The staff were unable to provide a solution to this problem.
- John (8/5): Good location, close to metro - The hotel was a bit hidden on a smaller street; taxi driver can miss it. There's not much in the immediate area, but it is only about a 5-7 min walk to all the action (metro, Nanjing Road shopping area, People's Square).
The staff were lovely and accommodating and all spoke English well. We arrived early and were allowed an early check in. Good value as well.
The room was more on the modern/boutique side which was nice; the lay out was different from other hotels I've been to in Shanghai, but good nonetheless. What stood out to me was that the internet was actually quite fast and reliable compared to other hotels in China. We just used the wifi but there was an option to hard wire as well.
- KK (6/5): Amenities - This hotel had no gym. The refrigerator in room never got cold. The lobby didn't have the air conditioning on. Snack shop was closed. Only one elevator worked out of two. Internet was slow and would loose signal. Poor choices for TV channels.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nicely designed hotel - Decent Hotel but was hard to locate. No fridge in the room, disappointing for a 4 star hotel. Loved the design of hotel, very modern. Overall, it was okay for the price i paid for it.
- J (6/5): Ok Hotel - It's ok to stay there if you are familiar with the environment. Otherwise, stay in a better place.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - For the price of the hotel I was expecting a bit more. The room was surface clean but when looking the bathroom especially was very dirty and not been given a thorough clean. There was a smell that was always in the room, it was terrible. The front desk staff I found to be cold, I asked assistance in making a phone call for a dinner reservation and the staff was instantly not pleased I was asking the favour, dailed the number handed me the phone and left. Overall, I wouldn't spend my money here again.
- Sisi (6/5): You get what you pay for - We booked this hotel with a last minute deal. Like some other people say, the hotel was a little hard too find since googlemap isn't precised, we must of asked the directions to 7 peoples and they all didnt knew where it was. Since we didn't pay much we can pretty much say that you get what you pay for. The bathroom was a little dirty and had insects too. The towels smelled like cigarettes.
I Would recommend it if the price per night doesn't exceed 50$ cause it's a walking distance to the subway station and dtown.
- Teo (4/5): - The bed are comfy but the deluxe room does not come with a bathtub which are different as stated in the booking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to subway station, decent neighborhood - Location was convenient- but the hotel is kind of inside in the smaller roads and kind of difficult to find / locate. But it is very close to the subway station - 2-3 minutes walk may be. Room was clean and amenities were good too. Had flier cards of working girls everyday though the hotel or neighborhood itself didn't look unsafe or cheap.
- eBridge (2/5): Is not a 4 STARS hotel! More like a motel! - The worst ever... The bed sheet is old, towels are grayish color, the wall paper falling apart, the carpet is not even vacuumed! The worst part was the bell captain is using the paper with passport copy as a scrap paper!
- Don (6/5): Average hotel - Location consider near metro station , quietly at night . Room quite clean as well but No eatery nearby only Mac around 600m . Not all rooms are with safe box.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Usefully Located and Modern Hotel - This hotel, whilst hidden off the main road mentioned in its address, is well located for People's Square, Nanjing Road as well as the Shanghai Metro for travelling further afield. The staff were very friendly, helping me to translate some Chinese and book a taxi. Room service staff did not speak English however and this could be problematic. Rooms themselves were very modern and comfortable.
- Susan (6/5): Not too bad - Room was okay. cheap furniture used to furnish the room and half of the power plugs didnt fit the australian plug even though it was the right shape. Twin share rooms did not have an in room safe eventhough it was specified on the website. Hotel was close to the subway station and main shopping strip, however the surrounding neighbour hood is not as nice compared to staying around the pudong location. The service was not too bad. All in all you get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Worst ever! Why do you not advise clients of yours that the hotel is under renovation? The dirt and grime and the incessant grinding noise and the lack of customer care from the staff was seriously disturbing, making this the worst ever stay
- Stian (6/5): Don't believe the description! - Although the hotel had a decent standard, at least from what I am used to, and compared to other hotels in China, this hotel was far away from the standard that was described on this site. Some of the rooms we got didn't even have a safe, and when we asked politely if we could have a new room with a safe, as the description said it would, they wanted to charge us for an upgrade. Except for this the hotel staff was ok, they did what they had to do, but nothing more. The cleanliness of the hotel was ok, especially in the public areas, but could be better in the rooms. The location of the hotel was nice, having Nanjing Road and People's Square within a 5 min walk. The hotel itself is situated in an alley which seemed a bit shady at night time.
- Leong (6/5): Location is good - hotel is a 5mins walk to nearest MRT, Xinzha station. Supermarkets and mac are jus round the corner and plenty. Walking distance (20mins) to raffles city shopping ctr where there are plenty of nice restaurants. It is also 2 MRT stops away from Shanghai Railway Station without needing to change lines. Too bad the aircon and fridge malfunction during our stay and the bed is too small for 2 (4ft only not queen size). Else the hotel is a wonderful place to stay in. Beware of cabs that the hotels 'orders' in advance, their meters are jig and jump faster than the usual which resulted in a extra RMB60 of fare.
- Leong (4/5): Location is great, but the room.... - DO not book a cab via the hotel concerige as the cabs they use are cheats!Cab fare was about at max $150 from Pudong Airport when we arrived. When we returned, it went up to alarming $200 by meter. Suspect they rigged the taxi meter. Would rather they charge us a fee to help us call cab than to cheat in this way. We stayed for 3 nights (26 Jun, 2-3 Jul). The first night was ok since we checked out the next morning and we were satisfied with everything within the room. Upon our return, we chose to stay in the same unit (#1206). To our dismay, the aircon was faulty and even we rang for help, help came but problem was not solved. We switched to #606 the following day as the previous room was too stuffy for comfort and it's summer! However, the fridge in #606 was not working! So no cold drinks for summer and the aircon temperate was blistering cold even when we tried tuning it to 24 degrees, it could only stay at 17 degrees.. we end up returning with runny noses! Bed was 4 ft bed and not queen. Only pros: Walking distance to Raffles City Mall (20mins) and 5 mins walk to nearest station, Xinzha station (Exit6). 5 mins walk to nice supermaket and macdonalds!
- Kerry (6/5): I would stay again - Use mapquest to find the place, it's not that easy. It was not the cleanest place but I was ok with it. Breakfast buffet was ok; nothing great. The subway was very close (really nice subway in Shanghai). I would stay here again.
- Anita (6/5): money for value - location is good, a few minutes to Metro. But environment around is not really present. I would say it looks like a 3 stars hotel instead.
- sc (8/5): great location, so-so room - convenient location, close to restaurants, city center, subway. maintenance staff needs training. terrible breakfast. hotel design details lack consideration. room and flooring lacks insulation as all other Shanghai buildings, thus noisy. Overall a worthy choice considering price and location.
- Ecc (6/5): - Always have little problem when stay in this Hotel, for example, Visa/ Master AE Card won't work with their payment system, even the UniPay card (apply in oversea)....so, it's better to pay cash during the deposit and check out, otherwise nightmare will starting to come! And suggested double confirm the reservation status by yourself, cuz they always miss the or can't receive the online booking notice.
- Juli (8/5): No comparison - Staff is wonderful and location is great...minutes to train station and tourist sites. Only complain is the faulty air-con which they didn't fix it despite their promise to do so.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location - Nice hotel with good location close to Nanjing Road and People Square and Metro. Breakfast not exactly western style but ok. Only thing is beds are too hard.
Good value for your money
- Verified traveler (8/5): Shanghai - Good and nice design, but dirty room
- Kimberly (10/5): - Great Hotel. Really Recommande. Nice staff very help full. Helped me to book train ticket, and concierge went to buy recharge mobile card. Very nice.
Great room, big, huge bed, great bathroom, and lots of place to put your stuff.
Location is very central, subway 5 min walk.
But breakfast is so so. Bread was dry (maybe 1 or 2 days odl?), no milk. little western food (no ham or plain cheese), but good choice of chinese meal.
Anyway had a great stay!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - quite near to the railway station and convenient store. room is clean and tidy but with strange smell, though it is acceptable. it is hard to push the door and cannot open it fully because of the carpet. staff with no smile and they dont really helpful on what i had requested.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean hotel in good location - the hotel was in 5 minutes walk distance from the people square and ningbo road and subway is just 100m away from the hotel. the only problem was the hotel is on a back road not the main road otherwise everything else was good.
- Vyda (10/5): Good location - Initial location doesn't appear that great. Hotel entrance is in a very small street/alley. Had an upgraded/superior room and it was very nice. Tiles/marble floors could use some buffing but overall a clean and nice room.
Initial location might not be great but overall it really is great. Subway station line 2 is a block away. Nanjing pedestrian shopping mall is a 5-10 min walk as is the people's square. Hotels there include the Raddison and Sofitell who are probably 3x more expensive with basically the same location value. Other hotels for this price are much farther from the city so this is a good value.
Getting there from Pudong Int'l Airport:
Get to People square by either maglev and line 2 or just line 2. Take line 1 towards XinZha Road exit 6 head straight down Xinzha road. After the Pacific exchange there is a small street/alley. Turn left into it. The hotel will be on the right. With maglev about 47 yuan without about 7. Taxi from airport is about 200. Travel time is about the same. Only real consideration is how much you want to sweat in the hot subways and size and number of bags you have. I took the maglev/subway there and immediatly took a shower. Took a taxi back since I couldn't shower at the airport prior to flight
- C (6/5): Not the same - No bathtube, no washer/dryer, no safe and no bathroom scale in standard room. However there is internet. Staffs are quite friendly. The location is not too far away fm the hassle and bussle of Nanjing shopping area.
- Stina (8/5): Nice hotel - We stayed at this hotel for one night and we really liked it! The location might feel a bit of but its one station with the subway from peoples square. The rooms wore nice and clean, a lot better then other hotels we have stayed at i Shanghai! We didnt try the breakfast, in China the breakfast is usually not that good, not for western visitors anyway.. McDonalds and small supermarkets near by.
Over all a nice hotell! We will absolutly stay there the next time and recomend it to our friends!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not Bad - My stay in this hotel was OK so far. The only problem I i had was that my telephone was not working i reported that many times to the front desk staff but no action has been taken. Also for a complete one day there were no warm water due to some technical issues. other than that the staff was friendly and helpful
