Guest Reviews
- stephen (2/5): - the hotel room had water damage and mould with buckets in the middle of the floor and i would avoid this hotel at all costs
- Jeff (8/5): - The room I stayed in at everything I needed hot water TV microwave kettle double bed
- Simon (2/5): - Terrible!!
- Kazuko (2/5): - Manager is simply not around or hard to find when needed.
- Srdan (10/5): - Nice
- Mary Joy (10/5): very nice room - very nice room and kind owner
- Verified traveler (6/5): Mrs S stay @ Chumleigh Lodge - Chumleigh Lodge Hotel stay due to train strike not choice basically helped us out of a problem. Michael who welcomed us was extremely helpful.
Room clean enough, and bed comfortable.
Unfortunately the evidence of some sort of possibly bed-bug traps on stairs is not encouraging. Neither is the large ammount of old belongings around the property, clearly lack of resources to deal with all the issues arising.
- Eric (8/5): - The hotel was in walking distance for our family visit. Michael, the owner was very friendly, the room was small but adequate for our one night stay.
- Mrs Dawn (10/5): - The owner of this property very friendly had a few conversations with him was easy check-in room was clean bed comfy had tea &coffee in room shower good over bath about 5mins walk to shops and cafe and buses only problem we had they didn’t do breakfast but we went into Greggs which was 5mins walk
- JULIE (4/5): - Unfortunately altho the host was a very pleasanr man we did have to wait over 20 minutes hammering on the door to get entry. There is no doorbell & The telephone line is a dead line. The room wasn't very clean. The toilet mat stained yellow with urine. Me & my husband left with flea bites on our legs.
- Anthony (2/5): Unusual Stay - Unfortunately although it was late, after waiting for 30 mins and knocking on the front door multiple times (there was no bell) there was no one was around to open the door, and the phone numbers for the hotel are out of service. I may have been unlucky but it was still disappointing. I didn’t get to try the actual rooms as I had to find another hotel then very last minute. I appreciate my circumstance was unusual (last min booking around 9pm due to my sick Mum in a hospice) - and prob doesn’t reflect the hotel itself, it was still disappointing as I have lost my money.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I was unable to gain access due to there being no doorbell. My husand (who I had called in desperation as my phone battery was low) called the b n b but the phone went unanswered. Eventually, after continuing to hammer on the inside door it was opened by a very rude man who was aggressive and insulting. He told me that I had not been knocking at all.
Once inside he remained aggressive and insulting. I went up to my room, but felt vulnerable and unsafe, as this mans manner was unpredictable. I left.
- Patricia P. (10/5): Very comfortable! - Great place: lovely neirgbourhood, very comfortable place and room. Everything more than OK! Surely I'll reparar.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good welcome and very good value for money.
Room very clean with fridge and microwave
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was useful to have the fridge and microwave in the room. Overall cleanliness could be better.whole place needs major refurbishment. 'Complimentary breakfast' could only just qualify for the name 'breakfast'.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Disgraceful check in... property completely locked when we turned up so we were sat waiting outside for almost an hour.
- Matt (8/5): Chumleigh Lodge Hotel Stay - Owner & staff were great! Only negative thing I can say is that on hotels.com is stated family room for 5. There was 1 double bed with a bunk bed so 2 had to share not a major issue but given the time of year it was rather hot! This could be an issue of hotels.com not the hotel we stayed in! So if you are wanting to stay in london close to shops & a tube-station to go site seeing I would recommend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I thought it was odd at first when Alice told us that all the things we need for breakfast were in room as I'd never heard of that before but I must admit I did enjoy doing it.. Cereals are normally all I have in the morning so that was lovely and in the fridge was milk and two different types of juice so it was like being at home and my wife could make her cup of tea
- Verified traveler (10/5): Happy - Had a really good stay
- Lindsay (8/5): Great little place for a stopover - The owner was very friendly and helpful, the room was pretty good and clean, perfect for the 1 night we needed.
- Aj (8/5): - Basic but did everything we needed. Warm with comfy mattress & amenities 😊
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice hotel but we didn’t get told our keys would be left in a pot and therefore couldn’t get in for half an hour
- Gary (8/5): Fine - Cheap, and does exactly what it says on the tin. Friendly helpful staff. I just needed a bed for the night at short notice and it served the purpose at a good price
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ok ish - Nobody on reception but did get a key from one of the guests in the end then the lady who worked there was brilliant.
- KM (4/5): Expensive, poor condition, poor service. - Front door was locked when I arrived at 2100hrs. No towels in room, sink was blocked, no TV remote control. No available staff, had to bang on locked door to get served. very little breakfast items provided in room. Overpriced hotel that is poorly run.
- Velma (2/5): Not good at all. - The room was not what I expected the room was every smelly and cold I was not every happy at all the outside wasn't every Attractive.
- joseph (4/5): Not very nice - Not very nice stayed 2 nights because i couldnt find anywhere else 1 night no light in bathroom the room had cereals and milk but no bowl to eat out of 2nd night cereal and bowl but no milk then the small milk pods for a cup of tea were minging bit of a dump really ! Oh and the place was freezing cold !
- Anthony (8/5): Better than it looks - Ok..when you pull up its not the best looking hotel but the rooms are modern and clean with good amenities... ours had a fridge freezer... microwave kettle....etc... and a fan... and boy did that come in handy... the staff are friendly and only a short walk to the tube station... we will return !!
- Peter (2/5): Worst "hotel" ever - I've been travelling for 20 years but never gave any bad review until today. The place is filthy, cardboard box filled with rubbish in the room, cleaning liquid on the sink in the bathroom, no bodywash no shampoo no towels, wardrobe full of various items, room door not lockable, bath really dirty, etc. The list just goes on and on...
- Mr E L (2/5): Not happy with level of Service - Booked a family room for our stay 4 adult men as we all went to see a boxing match at Wembley I was told there would be a double bed and two singles only for there to be a double bed and a bunk bed not very nappy as from our room all you could see was a lot of rubbish I the garden it was like a building site
- Nick (6/5): Cheap and Handy - The forecourt and front of the hotel are a mess which hardly engender positivity. Lovely greeting by the person I presume was the owner. Rooms were ok, bedding clean and reasonably well equipped for the price. Bathroom was not so. Dirty toilet, rubbish shower which never ran hot and horrible sink. Still it was warm and quiet. I won't go back nor would I recommend however there are much worse out there.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Unfortunately, a disappointing experience. - The manager was a pleasant chap and helpful enough, but there were problems with our stay in a twin room.
As the room was sold on a bed & breakfast basis, we expected breakfast. At any b&b anywhere, ever I have previously experienced, breakfast has had a full range of cereals, including whole-grain options (which are all I would choose), juice and a proper cooked breakfast and toast. Here, the 'breakfast' was "in the room", where there was a 'choice' of cornflakes or rice crispies - there was no fresh milk in the fridge, only small UHT pots by the tea/coffee. This was particularly disappointing as I had selected this 'hotel' over another significantly cheaper option because it was 'bed & BREAKFAST' - we had to have breakfast elsewhere at additional expense. Simply not good enough!
On the first morning, there was no hot water, so a shower was not possible. A simple face and 'pits' wash at the sink was not enough to feel comfortable, and so I felt a bit grimy throughout Friday, spoiling the whole of this day.
On the second night we were moved into two singles, which was fine, except that the shower in my room had the weakest flow I have yet encountered and the water was stone cold, so no shower possible at the end of the day either. Luckily, I was able to use the shower in my mate's room in the morning, so felt fresh for the second day at least.
However, the same problem re. breakfast: unappealing cheap cereal and no milk!
Would have been a third cheaper at Premier Inn!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Ok... Not bad - The hotel was good not great. I really don't think it's worth £75.00 for what you actually going to get.
- Anton (2/5): Chumleigh Lodge - Really poor. So bad we decided not to stay. We were greeted by copious ammounts of rubbish on the driveway, on which we were expected to park our car. Inside the picture was no better. The reception was closed and keys left in envelopes for guests to collect. My name was so badly misspelled I had to guess which key was ours before navigating through the rabbit warren of rooms with the air permeated by a smell of fish and disinfectant. All in all not satisfactory at all - it did not feel like a safe place to stay, so we left.
- Janette (6/5): - Its a bit of a shame, I'm sure it could be a lovely place.. bit of a work in progress. Couldn't get the shower too work and room was a mish mash of poor quality units with a really lovely wardrobe.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel was totally fine but I wouldn't use Expedia ever again for the way I was treated by them on the 3/10/2015.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic but clean - Clean and basic.
Staff were unhelpful and we were pretty much left to do it.
But for a cheap nights sleep - it did the job.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very tired - Although the linen was clean, the hotel is very 'tired' and some of the fixtures and fittings in the room don't work (e.g. blinds that can't be opened or closed). Breakfast (cereal and fruit juice) is stored in a fridge in the bedroom, where you're expected to eat it! It's a shame - the man who runs the place seems very pleasant, but we would not recommend you stay here unless it's very cheap.
- Clare (4/5): I will stay in the extension next time - No blind on the bathroom window and construction work going on outside as they are having an extension! Keys only open the doors if you have 'the knack' apparently (clearly I didn't), nice people but the existing hotel is in great need of some TLC.
- Michael (2/5): - We knew of this hotel from many years ago, it has altered beyond recognition it was not what we expected although the owner/manager was helpful
- Stuart (4/5): Cheap and Basic hotel - GOOD POINTS Rooms are reasonably clean, there is off road parking, it doesn't seem a bad area and there is a great road 5 minutes away with a huge choice of eateries, supermarket and pubs.
BAD POINTS Breakfast consists of little packs of jam and butter and cornflakes- no bread, croissants or milk!!! , though there was a good fridge so I brought some cereal and milk for my stay. The Bathroom is probably the worst I've ever seen and I've stopped on some very basic camp sites, it was like something out of a 1970's static caravan- the toilet was permanently stained, the sink had like a crackle glazed effect and the shower was tiny and the temperature dial was broken so it was only ever luke warm and the showerhead looked like a breeding ground for legionaires disease, there was no wardrobe, the tv was tiny and the bedside lamp was a very faint red light that would have been more at home in an Amsterdam window!! however, it is cheap and you get what you pay for I suppose
- Verified traveler (10/5): excellent stay - Very easy & relaxing stay.
Very friendly owner who was very helpful & generous by allowing us to check in early & also check out later.
Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Enjoyable stay, close to Ballards Lane - Although in a rather residential area and in a bit run down building, the staff were very nice and welcoming, even for a very late check in on sunday night. I myself didn't get a chance to be provided with complimentary shampoo, shower gel and hair dryer, they are available on request. The room was very warm and cosy which I loved and the hot water was very nice for a cold day, despite the very low water pressure from the showerhead. Definitely worth the money.
- Finchley Laundry (4/5): disappointing - Staff are friendly and location convenient. On the minus side the price is high and quality, efficiency and facilities are lacking. We had to ask for the room to be cleaned after the previous customers. Some of the furniture was broken and the continental breakfast was very limited - no real coffee despite the Lavazza advert at the entrance, no choice of teas, no hard cheese or cold meats.
- Mark (6/5): no fuss - the room was OK, good beds, nice clean bathroom, just a toilet roll holder was missing.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Does the job for a one night stay - Room was ok and clean. Shared bathroom and toilet for one floor was tiny, no room to move in the shower.
- Mark (8/5): tidy modest place - nice, bright breakfast room, generously sized bedroom including proper sized fridge and microwave. Close to public transport yet quiet area close to parks.
- Verified traveler (8/5): FEELING AT HOME - I was staying alone in a double room and there was enough space for me to move about. My friend was staying in another double room and she liked it too. There was a comfy bed, TV, fridge, kettle, fan, heating in the bathroom. The continental breakfast consisted of cereals, toast, yoghurt, fruit, juice, scones, tea and coffee. The owner was very helpful and the staff was very friendly. It is not a big, luxurious hotel but you feel at home from day one. We had a 20 minute walk to the bus stop or tube station. But the neighbourhood is very quiet and you can get a good night sleep. And last but not least there is a very efficient free Wifi.
- Glenn (2/5): Finchley - I paid £136 for two nights at a guest house in zone 3 Finchley over a bank holiday weekend. Perhaps I was careless in not noticing the room was not en suite but the shower would have been a disgrace at Glastonbury and no loo paper.
The bedroom had a draught and blinds that were broken : the wake up call at 8.30 to clean the room was politely declined.
Free breakfast but to expectations.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice B&B on the Northern Line outside of London - It fit our needs. We were able to get a room for our family of five. Continental breakfast included. Near Northern line making trips to City of London fairly easy although about 20 mins. Nice staff. Good for family on a budget.
